I successfully lost 30lbs on the diet last year but have sadly put back on 20 of those lost pounds. It’s been a real struggle to keep to the diet and I have had many false starts. I was wondering if there is anyone who has been in the same situation as me. I just can’t revive that wonderful resolve and the interest I had last year.

    Hi cat
You are doing the right thing! I didn’t get myself sorted for 50 and regret it but am sorting it for 53. So far on this diet I have lost weight really easily. It is quite weird because I tried a protein shake diet earlier in the year and lost virtually nothing and it was torture but somehow this seems easier and the weight seems to be melting .

Last night I walked with hubby to pub 1.7 miles had a Diet Coke and an extra dry martini then walked back lost a 1 lb this morning !

  • Well, I’m in week 4 now. The first week I lost 9 pounds, the second 1 pound, the third 2 pounds. I know 12 pounds in 3 weeks is a good loss ,but it is frustrating to lose so little when you’re only eating 800 cals. But, I shall persevere!
I’ve actually had very noticeable physiological side effects, some so bad I’ve thought about quitting. The one thing I haven’t felt is hungry, like you I can’t believe such a small amount of food can be filling! So, what I’ve noticed was, in the first week extreme thirst, really dry tongue, fatigue, muscle weakness, no stamina, second week, pins and needles started in my arms and spread (mineral deficiency), third week at times I’ve had some of all the symptoms but mostly feeling not too bad.
The good thing has been no headaches or fuzzy headedness which I’ve suffered from for years. I thought it was my underactive thyroid but seems it might be sugar related. I suppose my insulin levels have been stable (although I’m not diabetic or pre-diabetic).
I just hope I lose a bit more than a pound a week to make it worthwhile, I can’t say I enjoy low carbing.

Hey Troops, Had a wonderful day today! Instead of continuing the battle to sort the house Kev and I went out for lunch at a proper French restaurant (poached salmon plate with salad–well done Lizzie) tho’ Kev the bastard had the same…..and a small plate of assorted pastry samples with a drizzle of cream. I snatched the cream and drank all 2 ounces of it as he reached for it. He didn’t mind. Then we returned home, picked up our Rosie and went for a walk down the road by the lake. We sat on the bench, gazed out at the lake, felt the sun and were mindful of the moments. Kev pulled me closer and offered “We’re getting there Liz, we’re getting there.” On the way home he stopped the car and said he just had to run into the market. Returning with a bag, he wouldn’t say what was in it so I’m thinking something of a delicate nature like heat rash ball powder or athlete’s foot cream. Kev’s a bit funny about that sort of stuff. When we got home I dove into the powder room for a pee (typical) and bellowed mid-stream “KEV CAN YOU GET THE KETTLE ON” (typical). Emerging from toilet, still sorting my various layers, I entered the kitchen to see my Kev, his apron on, a silly chef’s hat we picked up years ago atop his head, holding a plate with 6 pitted cherries in one hand and a can of aerosol redi-whip cream in the other (his market purchase.) Then in a silly French accent said “Might I suggest a little food for the soul for Madame.” With that I stuffed the cherries into my mouth and blasted 40 calories and 3 grams of carbs directly into my soul.
Days are what we make them. The only expectation we have to meet is our own. And the simplest gestures can bring such joy.

I’m just going to bed here at 12:45am Saturday morning and many of you are just getting your morning kettle on. The day may well test you but picture us, an army of impenetrable strength, arms linked, shoulders braced and heads bowed to meet the challenge, soldiering forth. Together and undivided. Come the end of the day we’ll celebrate. If one of us falls, the rest will gather around and carry you until you feel ready to get your feet on the ground and walk on, arms linked again. Just as you did for me. You bandaged the damage of my fears and for that I will always be thankful.
    Much love,
    Aerosol Liz
    Wait, that sound like arsehole.
Okay, let’s go with Soul Food Liz

Hello all I hope you don’t mind if I join you all – I’m starting the BSD diet today and need to lose about 3 stone. My motivation is that I have two years till I’m 50 and am fed up with being over weight, lethargic, and eating crap! My kids will have all left home in 2 years and I want to be happy with myself to start the next chapter of my life! Cx

Any chance the web page people can categorize the recipes please? Its a nightmare as is with no categorization such as breakfast/ lunch/ dinner/ snacks etc.

  • Marsie, the pleasure is all mine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of recipes, time to post another one. This is a modification of one of my mother’s dishes that I dearly love but is made with bread crumbs. I eliminated them and replaced her higher calorie mixture of beef, lamb and pork with plain ground turkey. I added chopped mushrooms and spring onions to moisten it up.

    Turkey Mushroom Kebabs

    1 lb ground turkey
8 oz fresh mushrooms (I like blends of wild or Asian mushrooms for flavor variety), finely chopped
1 spring onion (about 70 grams), minced
    1 tblsp garlic powder
    1 tblsp ground cumin
    1/2 tblsp ground turmeric
    1/2 tblsp ginger powder
    1/2 tblsp ground coriander
1/2 tblsp ground yellow mustard seed or dry mustard
    1 tsp cayenne
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, mint and/or oregano (any fresh herbs you happen to have around can work here in any combination)
    1 tsp salt
    freshly ground pepper

Spritz a non-stick pan with cooking spray or use a teaspoon of olive oil. Heat on medium. Sautee the onion a few minutes until it softens. Add the mushrooms and salt and pepper them. Cook until they’ve released their liquid. Take the pan off the heat and let cool to room temperature.

In a large bowl, add the cooked veg, spices and herbs to the turkey. Mix it all up. Spray the pan you used for the mushrooms and put it back on medium heat. Scoop the turkey mixture up into a heaping tablespoon and drop it in the pan. My mother makes them in the classic football shape, but I prefer to flatten them as soon as they hit the pan just because they cook faster that way. Flip them over when you see the edges go from pink to white. Cook on the second side until there is no more pink to be seen along the sides.

Put them on a paper towel-lined plate to cool and repeat until you’ve cooked all of the turkey mixture. Eat them warm fresh out of the pan or cold on their own or in a salad. They’ll keep in the fridge for days. The recipe makes exactly 36 kebabs. A serving of 8 of them, which feels tremendously indulgent, is just 147 calories and 2 grams of carbs. You could eat this entire recipe at one time and still have 212 calories left for the day.

For the ideal accompaniment, hot or cold, you can’t go wrong with tzatziki sauce. Here’s my version derived from a family recipe.

    Tzatziki

1/4 cup (60 grams) Greek yogurt
1 small Persian cucumber (80 grams or so), finely grated
    1 clove garlic, minced
    2 tblsp chopped fresh dill
    1 tblsp fresh lemon juice
    s&p to taste

Do not peel the cucumber! This is where so many tzatziki recipes go wrong. You need the peel for nutrients and for flavor. The trick is to use a cucumber with few seeds, a thick but not bitter skin and a high skin to flesh ratio. That’s why I use the Persians. I haven’t tried them, but I suspect pickling cucumbers would work well, as would those huge English seedless ones, only of course you’d have to cut off a section because the whole thing is the size of a baseball bat.

Grate it as finely as you can. The holes on my food processor grater blade are too big for this job. I used the second smallest side of my box grater instead. You get a lovely pulp that distributes extremely well throughout the yogurt. The water comes out of it much more easily too. Squeeze out as much of the liquid from the cuke pulp as you can. I use a cheesecloth and just strangle that stuff to death. When it can no longer produce a drip, toss it in the yogurt along with everything else and mix up with a fork or whisk.

Let it sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours, but believe me when I tell you that it is SO much better the next day. These flavors are subtle and need time to develop.

Hi guys, on the week leading up to my period I am unable to lose weight, my body stores it as water until my period comes, then I see the weight loss the following week. I only know this because I was working with a nutritionist who had some very techy scales. It happens every month at the same time for me.

  • You havent said you are diabetic so if you look in the books (BSD by MM and then BSD recipe book) there is no reason why you cant have oats, made with water and no sugar products but reduce to 20 / 25 grams. Look at the calorie count if you are doing 800.

Hey Rozy – good to know you’re hanging in there too. I know what you mean about the lack of motivation, but I have found the “7 days to renew enthusiasm” thread really helpful in getting me inspired – that and a book called Petal, Leaf, Seed By Lia Leendertz which has also really got me thinking about foods and flavours again.

We just need to stick with it and we’ll see the results – after all, we know full well the BSD works and that we CAN achieve, it’s just a case of applying ourselves and getting back to basics again if need be.

    Keep going and keep posting.

Hi all, late here in France but not too late to comment. Me too Onetowatch still sticking with the same old. One good thing is the weather was good and I managed 25 mins in the pool, hoping for more of the same tomorrow before the rain comes back.

    Have a good weekend all.

  • Verano, I’m not actually in maintenance yet. I have 20 lbs left to lose before I get to my goal weight, which is admittedly an ambitious one. I figured since I had to lose close to 200 lbs anyway, might as well go for broke and get back to my college weight.

Good luck with the nuts! You can test them out on your grandsons on Sunday. ๐Ÿ˜€

We’ve all been there, Denwiles. All the weighing, measuring, planning and calculating is a lot of work and it’s hard not to feel a sense of futility when you don’t see the fruits of your labours on the scales. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve crumbled into a sobbing pile of despair over the year I’ve been on the BSD, even knowing that the losses will always start again.

Having said that, I know there’s a mourning period when you’ve first said goodbye the carbs, but it might help you to stop thinking of the foods you’ve cut as “treats” instead of the poisons they actually are. You wouldn’t have had to take such drastic measures as the BSD if those foods hadn’t materially harmed your body.

Have just cooked the mackerel frittata from this book. I hate smoked mackerel. The recipe was fun to cook and the meal delicious. I’ve been asked please to make it again!! Really feel I’ve had a MEAL. Thank you Sarah Schenker for all your recipes in the original book as well as this new book…..they’re all easy to make because they are so well thought out. 100% success rate with everything I’ve made so far. The person for whom I cook has a default setting of pies or Chinese takeaway, but has raved over all the recipes so far. We are working on 3 months of using the books before he has another blood test, rather than trying to lose x amount of weight in y time.
    Good luck everyone.

FFBB…well done…inches and pounds…your hard work is paying off.

H66…you are very eloquent and I love your resistance to the enemy. You are so right, we are stronger together.

Crabby, (we must find a sweeter nickname for you), the poo problems are a nuisance but at least I have all my limbs etc. It is more embarassing than anything. It is difficult to explain to people why I don’t eat at cafes etc. and travelling is a major planning exercise. I used to live in Essex and knew every toilet stop on every route back to the Midlands.

I think we should petition for a like button for this forum!

    hi everyone,

pah, stayed the same for the whole of week 3 – went up and down 200g but am back down now. Hard to have a week with no loss isn’t it? So i decided to get the fat secret app and switch from my fitness pal as it seems more accurate and i am interested in the carb/protein/fat ratio – i think it may have been possible that i haven’t been eating enough protein – its very informative anyway!

i have 34 days until my IVF weigh in – still need to lose another 5.5 kilos – eek! Drinking water like its out of fashion and enjoying the compliments from my fellow exercise class goers! I am 10.5lbs from my starting weight ( 4 kilos) off and week one was 7, week 2 was 2 and week 3 has been zero. Keeping on though – i have been pretty good – usually around 850 except yesterday when i was doing a training for a university and my lunch – lentil salad with tuna – had gone fizzy! so i ended up eating later than i normally would – as in after 6pm and i had a hash brown and a sausage taking my total for the day to 1400. Not a disaster, just annoying.

    Today’s good noshing:
100g plain Yoghurt with 10g oat bran 10g coconut and 100g strawbs.
Salad with blue cheese, pear, watercress and green beans ( from the book but substituted ricotta for 30g blue cheese) was delicious
Dinner – bacon chop – oh so yum, with a huge mushroom, 50g broad beans and a big salad – in at 797 cals and 50.15g carbs.

S-g I think it’s so easy to ‘get lazy’ about food as you say. I certainly do.

Yesterday wasn’t the best for me and today had only been marginally better. Off out soon for an Indian meal but that will be BSD friendly just chicken tikka and salad. So sorry I’ve not posted, I hate posting unless I can be positive. I am feeling more positive now for tomorrow despite being out tomorrow evening for a Greek meal, chicken again!

Hope you all have a good positive and healthy weekend.

  • I didn’t have the best of days yesterday and today has only been marginally better. So for tomorrow I have a plan…. make labneh and make Esnecca’s Brazil nuts that I should have made today.

I have my grandsons staying over tomorrow night for the first time, with their mum, maybe she doesn’t trust me!!!! Anyway I thought I might have my homemade cheese with Ottolenghi’s olives for breakfast on Sunday while they have smoked salmon, hummous, rollmops and bagels. Something to look forward to!

    Have a good weekend.

  • Hi Ancient Weaver
It’s great that you are looking slimmer and you’ve had to tighten your watchstrap. Keep going with the swimming. I used to swim quite often but haven’t been for about a year, so reading about you swimming is making me feel that I must start swimming again – I like to do 20 minutes or so, which is about 20 lengths of the pool in my local leisure centre.
I was v v naughty last night – can’t bear to admit it – I had fish n chips!!! So cross with myself, but I’m back on the low carbs today.
Going to my friend’s house this evening – she has made salmon mousse served with avocado and lettuce, so I think that’s allowed.
    Have a great weekend.
Looking forward to my next weigh-in on Tuesday at WeightWatchers, wonder how much damage the fish n chips has done?!?

Ok I’m here, tent pitched and cunning food plans afoot. Turns out there is a fish smokery here so I was forced to eat smoked salmon for lunch! No rain yet but v v windy, which made pitching the tent at least twice as much exercise as normal.

I have 4 cans of g&t with me at 68 cals each. I have got wholegrain instant porridge for breakfasts – not the syrup flavoured stuff! And bbq is lit. Chicken on skewers brushed with olive oil for me. Also pepper and mushroom kebabs, Portobello mushrooms and masses of salad stuff. Others are having burgers and sausages and rolls.

I have decided to have about 900 calories a day for these two days as I think I need a tiny bit of ballast when I’m drinking. It’s gone straight to my head… going to update MFP before I keel over!

BTW – I read somewhere that you have lost 150pounds -so many congratulations to you – that is so fantastic! Something I can only dream about right now. You are an inspiration! I would have said earlier but I didn’t like to elbow my way in.

  • Day 34 in the BSD house.

Hello fellow recruits. I do hope you are all feeling better/more positive. Sending you all positive thoughts and love.

Lost 2 lbs this week .

Non scale victory…I can no longer get away with wearing my size 22/24 skirts and undies. They won’t stay up. Luckily I have a couple of size 20 skirts that I like as a back up so I won’t be indecent (ditto undies).

I will say one thing in favour of this whole BSD thing; I am losing visible inches as well as weight off the scale. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

    Wishing you all fab Fridays.

Oh ladies, those gut problems sound horrible. I feel for you. Personally, since I started on the metformin, the ‘movements’ went to every other day, sometimes twice a day. Gastric reflux started me on the colonoscopy merry-go-round some years ago. Thank heavens for nexium. If I had to choose one of the tablets I take every day, that would be the one I’d keep. If I forget it I have to keep eating to quell the nausea. Not great when trying to diet.

I too have bloody wipes. Recent tests found nothing and it is put down to haemorrhoids. More water specifically to drink does help. But no matter how much fibre I eat I still manage to produce rabbit doddles. The only thing that does it for me is prunes, which I adore but which are calorifically expensive.

Dear Liz, I do hope you manage to quell the bizzies in your mind. Easy to say, very hard to do. Have a lovely visit with your children, put them to work, cuddle Kev and have yet another cup of tea.

Onwards and downwards girls, onwards and downwards.

    Best love, Crabbycams.

  • Sorry, forgot to say thank you for your congratulations, Marsie and Topcac, on regaining most of my wriggle room. Seriously, I am loving being slim sooo much, that I am not finding it difficult to throw in a total fast day or a few bsd800 days after a few days or a week of over-indulgence (dependent upon how many available days I have before the next social onslaught). I really, truly, never, ever want to be overweight again – been there, done that for far too long – and I just cannot believe how WELL I feel – fit, active and just so full of energy. When/if you are struggling, just remember the end-game – it is SOOOO worth it. I’m 67 (very nearly 68) and feel more like 40 and, if you ignore my face, look more like 40 too (sadly BSD doesn’t get rid of wrinkles๐Ÿ˜ – come on Dr Moseley, now there’s a new challenge for you, a wrinkle-reversing diet๐Ÿ˜œ)

Restarted on Monday and I have lost 5.5 pounds so far this week which I’m so happy with! First time round I lost 7 pounds in the first week so I think I’m on track for a similar loss. I’m also exercising each day this time doing just quick HIIT workouts after work, no more than 20 minutes.

I’m part of an army. Arms linked. Marching across the earth up hills and down valleys. We meet the enemy of booze, anxiety and food but our links are not broken. Each gaining strength from another along the chain.
That is how I feel right now. I AM EMPOWERED!! It is 9:10am here and I’m not working. I called in for a ‘me’ day. It’s Friday in the summer and our summer in Canada is short enough so nobody is at work anyway. I was dreading calling my boss but she said “great idea Liz! I’m only here until noon.” I noticed a pattern in myself–I spend so much time pre-worrying. NO MORE.
Kev is home today and before getting up we had a pillow chat and I started with “Kev, this year has really been a bit shit.” He agreed.
First it started with a full on dose of influenza. Then he had it. I ended up with pneumonia and two days in hospital. Then Mum had her stroke and fell down the stairs in front of me. Then moving her into assisted living with all of the tears associated with your Mum begging you for one more chance at home not understanding the care she needed that I couldn’t provide plus all of the associated moving coordination as you move your own stuff in (she has her own sitting room/bedroom/kitchenette/toilet so huge upheaval in the house. Then watching Kev get cardioverted to get his heart back in normal rhythm and the string of cardiac visits/tests and anxious for results. Then driving down to Florida and having the biggest panic attack in my life thinking I was going insane. Then packing up our Florida home in 100 degree heat with 1857% humidity. Then barfing my way home over a 30 hour drive in a rental truck towing our car. Then moving all of the shit into our home and trying to get organized and countless trips to the dump purging years of Mum’s stuff which is very emotional. Then churning up my guts so badly with anxiety……..but you know what? I HERE. STRONGER THAN EVER BECAUSE OF EACH OF YOU. Kev said to say thank you to each and every one of you. You chicks have no idea the difference you have made. Like Kev says–on a ‘normal’ day I am happy, smiling, and find the good in every shit pile and haven’t been myself for a couple of weeks. So together we have adopted a new mantra. Fuck it. Yes, this year has been a bit shit but there’s millions of others who would trade their circumstance for mine. So what if this year has been a trial–we’re here and have today to live on our terms.
My biggest accomplishment hasn’t been the diet it’s been the booze. Sure it’s been a bit mad. The time I screamed at the bottle “FUCK YOU–I’VE GOT PLANS FOR ME THAT DON’T INCLUDE YOU” might have seemed a bit insane but I have developed a relationship with alcohol and made it like a person (okay, personified–I know big words too.) There is a liquor store at the top of our road and yesterday, driving past, I could smell they were having a ‘tasting day’ in their kitchen where they dish up appetizers and pair them with wine etc. and I said out loud FUCK YOU–NOT INTERESTED. I pictured linking arms with each of you and as one unbroken unit we passed on by.
When I really feel like I’m weak and failing or not as strong as the next person I say to myself “Fuck Liz, you only have to be as strong as your best. Today is your day just do your best, it’s the only best that counts.”
I’m still in bed and it’s now 9:24am. I could have got up and started running through the day but my new mantra is–listen to your body Liz and go at its pace for once. And that is what I’m doing. I’m going at my pace–not the world’s.
I’m going to go and have a long hot shower–unrushed then have a cup of tea standing by my kitchen door and picture each and every one of you. Above I visualized us each walking, arms linked, across an endless plain. Sometimes facing uphill challenges sometimes eased by a walk down a gentle slope but always arms linked. That is the source of my empowerment. It’s funny–I’ve mentioned I’m 6ft tall and now down to 235lbs but am still massive. To look at me, built like a streetcar, you’d think I’m the strongest but I am strong because of this global sisterhood. I gain my strength from linking arms with each and every one of you.
Thanks to you my kitchen is back open for you to drop by for tea. We are living this life now on OUR terms. Fears might creep in but we don’t have to deal with stuff alone. Baring my soul to you, sharing embarrassing health details or just having a chat–somehow, together, we’ve created a sisterhood of unparalleled support. Life is magic. Perhaps it is our shared and common need that has woven itself together across the globe. Whatever it is–I’m in. Tits deep–I’m in. It’s not just “we’re can do this–it’s WE ARE DOING THIS!!!!” SO FUCK YOU ANXIETY I’M LIVING LIFE ON MY TERMS NOW. PANIC ATTACK DO YOUR BEST ‘CAUSE I DON’T GIVE A SHIT. HOUSE–STAY MESSY–COULDN’T GIVE A FUCK I’LL GET TO YOU WHEN I GET TO YOU. MY ARMS ARE LINKED WITH OTHERS AND I AM STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW. TOGETHER WE ARE A FORCE. WE GO AT OUR OWN PACE. NO AGENDA. NO EXPECTATION. JUST ARMS LINKED–WE WALK ON. TOGETHER WE WALK ON.
Kev’s just brought me a cup of tea, read the last paragraph and said “William Wallace, will you be wanting your blue faceprint today?”

So typical. Good intentions down the drain. But never give up!!! I like rain nowadays. I see it as one for me everytime I do some exercize. I live in cold area so my excuses are gone. Finally. Better luck next time.๐Ÿ‘

I like that Anna tbh it rains here constantly so we would never go anywhere.

I drove to the swimming pool this morning full of good intentions to go to aqua fit but there was no spaces in the car park so I drove home ! Fail!

  • Goodness, poor you, Topcac. I have heard about reactions to Tramadol before and, in fact, once had a dog who couldn’t tolerate it and had the same symptoms as you describe. Nasty.๐Ÿ˜ Hope you are feeling better soon, and I just know that if you are “sensible” over the weekend, you will definitely have a visit from the Whoosh Fairy when you dump all that retained water ๐Ÿ˜œ In the meantime, just concentrate on getting better, which is by far the most important thing.

Mariet, well done on making your own yoghurt, I use Total Fage which I have found to be totally (appropriately) addictive ๐Ÿ˜œ so can understand what you are saying. I have no idea if this is any help, but I have found this:-

I have arranged clothes so no excuses work. I walk in rain. Try it and you will feel like a pro. I think the rain are tears I dont have to cry over my body.

Pleased to say it has eased off quite a bit now.

I am not really eating anything different to what I normally eat. Just not eating the bread, potatoes or rice and definitely not the ice cream and chocolate that was my downfall.

Yes, I think it was probably hunger pains because when I looked at the calorie count for what I was eating and taking into account the calories I use up exercising I realised I was not eating enough – only 625 calories. So nice to think I can eat a bit more just not the bad stuff.

  • Topcac, I hope you’re feeling better soon. I have a similar reaction to Panadefine forte, it’s awful.

I bought myself a yoghurt maker, it came yesterday and I made myself greek yoghurt. Bad idea. 1l milk made 400g think creamy yoghurt, consistency of clotted cream and SO Yummy. It was all I could do not to eat the whole 400g in one sitting. I don’t know how to work out the carbs, I know how much was in the milk but are some used up in the process of making yoghurt?

Oh yes, Lessmuffintop, at least it isn’t more….

But since June 2016 to date, I have lost 11.1 kg and gained 10.1 kg, all in spells of losing and then gaining 2/3 kg here and there and am still around the same weight!!!! I could have been well at my target weight or beyond by now. I’m not sure if I should be encouraged by the fact this is possible or completely crushed lol!!

Meanwhile time is passing and I am getting older and fighting the body changes and spread that comes in mid-life. I’m feeling more and more like a heifer and less and less like how I have looked when slim and toned or the Instagram fitness models I sometimes have a look to for inspiration (the ones in my age-range, I’m not a complete masochist!!). Davina McCall is very inspiring as well.

Anyway, this self-sabotage needs to end and some serious ground needs to be covered!! Even just a loss of 1-2 kg makes me feel so much slimmer and better and more positive, so let’s do this!!!

  • GoodHeavens, topcac, that’s awful to go through, poor you. I thought tramadol was for controlling nausea, or am I thinking of something else …? Whatever, that sort of reaction is not funny. Hope you come through this very soon. Concentrate on that, with easy, light foods that do no harm, don’t even think about weighing in just now. Hugs ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿ’œ

I have got Irritable bowel syndrome and I find that the only thing that helps me avoid being constipated etc is a bowl of porridge each morning. I have about 35g. How can I make the blood sugar diet work with this? Is porridge ok? I eat jumbo oats

Well done Mike. I have the same problem as CosmicGoddess – self sabotage and any excuse not to excercise. This morning I was going to go for a walk but as it is absolutely pouring down decided against that plan. Will I go for a walk later? We’ll see.

  • Well done Theodora – I can only dream of wriggle room at the moment ๐Ÿ™‚

I can also concur with the chicken soup idea butterlover – get well soon – be kind to yourself.

Well I’ve had a bit of a week, start of it was laid up in bed and did exceptionally well on plan considering, then the doc prescribed me some painkillers which basically poisoned me. I’m not kidding – I don’t think I’ve ever felt as bad in my ENTIRE LIFE!!. After two days on those I was nauseous ALL THE TIME, throwing up, feverish, dizzy, spaced out and generally wanted to die. So that’s the end of those – they are in the bin now and i’m just grateful for only having back ache and nothing else!! Beware Tramadol….

Food wise, I think I can probably count yesterday as a fast day as I didn’t eat anything until four (and I only did that because I thought it might be making me feel worse) and then threw it all up a couple of hours later. The painkillers made me retain water – I drank 4 litres yesterday and went to the loo twice. So any weigh in right now is pointless.

Will wait till Tuesday and hope for a slightly calmer weekend. Am starving now though lol!

Hi all, Many thanks for the concern about Liz and my little problems. Liz, yes my arse bleeds regularly and not just a bit….sometimes I think I have just drained all the blood through the anal sphincter! My GP said it was normal for people with “my problems”. Here in the Uk, every 60 year old gets screening for blood in the faeces. Mine of course was positive and they wanted to do another colonoscopy until I talked to them. They said there was no point as I had recently had one, BUT, I have to have one next year IF they get the same result. And I know they will….I found it interesting…they showed me what they could see. I had been relaxed by some stuff they gave me and it was like having a drink but without the associated problems. I also have a Hiatus Hernia and daily take Lansaprozole to help combat the excess acid. I had my Gall Bladder removed when I was 30 and that leaves you with excess bile, so any thing greasy or dairy sets it off. My diet quickly became restricted. I found out I was lactose intolerant (and I love cheese, yogurt etc), couldn’t have too much grease, spice causes excess acid and the number of nights I have filled the loo with vomit exceeds 100s.
I have suffered with anxiety, panic attacks etc since I was a teenager, so over 40 years! People often advise me to meditate, eat particular things…basically I need to change my mind and that is difficult.
Liz I can feel your low mood and I am using all my strength to help lift you. I promise everything will be OK. You have been through the most amazing amount of shit and still made everyone else feel so good. Take a little back… you are great. You are marvellous. You are strong…You inspire us…You can handle it.. You are our Lizzie the Leader (thanks Hello66) and we love and want to help.
I use the mantra….I feel like this, not because I am weak, but because I have been strong for so long.

Lots and lots of love from me and I am sure everyone,
    Nonna Mary xxx

Jovis says he will give you extra hugs if I let him, and I do!

  • Lots of love to you Liz, as previous posters have said “you don’t have to do everything!” Concentrate on yourself and your health. With regards to the family and party…DELEGATE. Be the Matriarch, not the maid.

Excellent loss in 8 weeks and keep in touch when you can.

    BIG HUGS
