Hi Mandy
Another fat source is nuts and seeds. Today I ate fat from lamb, olive oil, flax seed, walnuts, Provamel soya- almond yogurt ( no sugar)
Total 34 g, 49% of calories.

Heinz (in the UK) do a reduced sugar and salt version – 50% less sugar and 25% less salt. We have them all the time and no visiting child has ever noticed. I prefer them side by side to regular beans (I prefer home made ones even more). 1/2 tin is 139 kcal, 20.5g Carbo, including 4.7g sugar. To compare with above that is 67kcals per 100g and 9.9% carbohydrate. They do contain Steviol.

Hello can you tell me what a Heck sausage is please?

Can anyone tell me if soya milk sweetened is okay to have with my tea, or is there lots of calories in that? I try to drink 2 litres of water a day and as the weather is so cold of late, I have a herbal tea, but I miss the usual cup of tea with soya milk in it.
Also it is really interesting to read what you are all eating, got some ideas from you all thank you. -
Hi yes i have some weight to lose ,i have decided to try the 800 calories see how i get on with the exercise if it doesn’t suit then will go for 5.2 thanks

A handy site http://www.calorie-charts.net/legumes/1748 says canned baked beans are 1/5 carbs and about 100 cals/100 grams. 1 cup 265 cals unsalted beans. About 20 g of sugar (in the yummy sauce, of course) per cup according to http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/legumes-and-legume-products/7698/2
Hubby loves baked beans for breakie, so may have to start making our own.
BTW, interesting article at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-126977/Secret-sugar-shock.html -

on 7 Mar 2016 at 21:08 in Welcome to the BSDNow that I am over the anxiety of what would happen when I increased my calories I am going to follow it for another couple of weeks (like captainlynne) as I would like to shed a few more pounds. If there are friends round for dinner or I go out for lunch I might have a bit more food – but no carbs. I hate carbs now!! Can’t believe how good I feel without them. ๐
-
I love warm milk, I usually have it every night before bed – but only had it once since starting this diet. Tonight I am going to indulge!!! Thanks for the tip. Might even sprinkle a bit of nutmeg in it – ๐

on 7 Mar 2016 at 20:56 in Welcome to the BSDHi purplepenguin there are a few of us on this site who have hypothyroidism. Today I had an appointment with my remedial massage lady – I hadn’t seen her for 6 or 7 weeks – and even with my winter coat and scarf on she noticed I had lost a lot of weight. She was surprised at how well I am – she has known me for a long time – and is going to be recommending this diet to other clients. I feel as if my body has been kick started, booted up, reprogrammed or whatever other analogy you can think of to describe the fact that I feel like a new woman and that the clock has been turned back by a decade. Yesterday I experimented with 1500 calories to see what would happen and the scales showed my weight as remaining the same. Unbelievable!!! I was gaining weight daily before this diet no matter how much or how little I ate.
Stick with this diet even if you feel a bit hungry or light headed the first few days – it soon passes and hunger pangs take a back seat. You won’t regret it. You’ll be dancing and bouncing with the rest of us.
I reach the 8 week mark tomorrow. Can’t believe how quickly the time has passed. ๐ -
Hi ChannelK – thank you for the encouragement. You are right, losing inches does help to keep one motivated and also that on just 800 calories a day, one can’t help but lose weight, even if it doesn’t happen as quickly as hoped. It is helpful knowing that I’m not the only person encountering these issues and that others have found the same stumbling blocks.
Sorry, can’t help with the bread thing, as I rarely ate bread so don’t really miss it. I made some of the cheesy coconut flour scones, which I found to be quite pleasant, but they do have a definite coconut flavour. If I discover any possible bread substitutes, I’ll post it here for you.
Meanwhile I will continue to be careful to log everything I consume and that way I’m sure the pounds will drop at some point. As you say, one day at a time – and to be honest, I can’t believe that I’m into week three already!

on 7 Mar 2016 at 20:40 in Welcome to the BSDHi Trishart,
I found that I felt heady for just over a week altogether. I’m on my fourth week now & all is fine. It will go away – one of the things for him to remember is that he still needs to get enough fat for energy & drink lots of water. Good luck – hope all goes well xx -

on 7 Mar 2016 at 20:38 in Welcome to the BSDHi have begun the 800 today. I take 200 levythyroxine and am also type 2 diabetic. I do agree about the fat thing still can’t get my head round it. I echo what others have said about thyroid and energy but I am crossing my fingers that this will start the rest of my life and things will improve. So great to hear all the advice.

Hi Sunnyb, I’ve had pretty similar except I’m a week on from you. Apart from week 1, I’ve essentially been losing 2lbs a week. 9lbs in total so far. Like you, I’m losing inches off my waist which has helped me for motivation. At one stage I wondered if I wasn’t eating or drinking enough and maybe that was stalling things so I have increased fat intake and am trying to drink 2 litres of water (plus cups of tea) each day. I am finding I’m really missing something bread-like that tastes decent as I’m not loving the coconut flour option. If you have any suggestions, I’d love them! I’m trying to keep in mind it’s impossible not to lose weight on 800cals a day and the food I’m eating is very healthy so it is all ultimately only a good thing keeping blood sugar stable (in my case) even if weight loss feels slower than mentioned in the book. So no great suggestions except ‘one day at a time’, and I understand where you’re at. I’ve actually found it helpful to read the forums and know that others are also experiencing similar things. Keep at it!

Ooh the warm milk before bed is something I’ll try – Bill suggested something like this to reduce the fasting high blood levels I’m getting. Good idea!

Lunch – Leaf salad, chicken, ham, shaved manchego cheese – 143
Snack – full fat yogurt with cacao sprinkle – 60

on 7 Mar 2016 at 20:25 in Welcome to the BSDHashimoto and Bill, what a great double act, love the humour.
Well done Kim, bit of tweaking to do with your intake but no one here will smack you for that. We are all human and totally understand the temptations.
I was feeling a bit self satisfied, had 11 days under 5 for my fasting bloods! Ate two samosas instead of one for dinner and ruined my record ๐ now 5.3 this morning. Would have been delighted with that at one stage but having seen what the diet can do, I want better.
You will get there Kim, your determination and ability to laugh at your foibles will see you succeed ๐ -
Thank you to both Hishimoto and Spirit for the encouragement -much needed and much appreciated. I am determined to see the diet through and already know it will result in a long term change in my eating habits. I feel more vital and sleep better, although I find I need to get to bed earlier than before.
It is comforting to know that the stalling is normal and that things will begin to move in the right direction again. I’ll keep a tight reign on the calories and look forward to some more positive results soon.

Lunch – goat cheese salad
Dinner – 2 chickpea flat breads with chickpea curry1.5 litres of water & 200 ml of warm milk before bed

Are you allowed mayo?
I really need a list of allowed foods. I have swapped to this from Harcombe as I felt I was just constantly eating the same things. Ging to give this a try. -
Hi sunnyb,
Yes week 2 and 3 I stalled pretty much completely despite sticking to the letter of the diet. It was very frustrating.
I read that Jenny Rhule book (ยฃ3 on kindle) which explains why stalling happens on low carb diets. I made a few changes to my diet. some quite drastic and I wouldn’t advocate anyone else do it – i cut back for a few days on cals, about 2-3– a day. that got things moving a bit!
Stick with it, you will come out the other side smiling.

I like the sound of some of those recipes!

2 slices of smoked salmon with a poached egg.Lunch – been skipping that of late

might have some yoghurt and blueberries shortly.

Breakfast: Latte shake
Lunch: Chocolate shake and a pear.
Dinner: Prawn salad (baby leaf, tomato, beetroot and a boiled egg) followed by 4 strawberries with plain yoghurt.

Hi sunnyb, Michael mosley does say the first two weeks are the most difficult so stick in there. An inch of your waist is a magnificent result. Would you have expected such a result before starting this diet? Keep going ๐

Day one for me:
Small tub plain yoghurt with 2tbsp blueberries for breakfast.
Tin of mackerel and salad for lunch.
Beefburger (no bun) with salad and small chunk feta cheese for tea.
Nearly up to 2L water ( struggling here!)
Half pint milk.
2 cups tea.
Am very hungry now but it’ll pass. -

Many thanks to the three people who have replied to my message – all useful tips and hints. It is quite daunting, but I am a good planner and completer-finisher by nature, so this sounds just the ticket for me to eliminate my sugar addiction, gonna take some determination! Thanks again. ๐

Yes, Mum will be in hospital until the physiotherapists decide she can come out, and then we will need to figure out how it will work at home.
Day 16 weight 10st 9lbs ( no more has come off, but no more has gone on!). I had a bit more to eat yesterday, I had stewed blackcurrants and natural yogurt for pudding.
Blood sugar 12.4A curve ball problem occurred today, but I dealt with it really quickly and feel glad that I did.
I’ve made a load of ratatouille today, so will have it with some meat tonight and freeze some portions for another day. I am not a fan of chopping vegetables, but I now look upon it as a form of exercise. ๐

Have managed to stick with the 800 BSD for two whole weeks now and am starting in on Week 3. Week one went fine – no issues sticking to the 800 calories and seeing a little progress on the scales almost every day, dropping a total of 4lb in the week. However, week two proved to be a real struggle, with no evidence of any progress on the scales for almost the entire week, with 2lb lost towards the very end. Have been keeping a log of everything consumed and calculated the calories everyday, but it has been really hard to stay motivated and focussed, have managed to stick with it though.
When I did my stats this morning, it would seem that the 2lb I did lose last week was mainly from my waist, as it was a full inch smaller, which can only be to the good. I am hoping this week will not be as difficult and there will be steadier progress through the week. Am very aware that I need to move around more to help burn calories and drop pounds, but this is my ‘bete noire’ and my main area of poor motivation. I am trying to find small ways in which to increase my activity, without making too big a deal of it.
Has anyone else had a tough time in the second or third week and do you have any advise or tips? I’m determined to keep going, but it would help to know how others are managing.

Hi Jandz … welcome!! Now I am one of those lucky ones that work from home, but because of that I forget about lunchtimes etc., and only remember when there are hunger pangs … and I hate to say it, I’m not always as organised as I should be. However, I have bought lots of green veg, and this lunchtime I found some fine green beans in the fridge, which I chopped up into 2cm (or about) and put them in a microwave steamer for 4 mins. Opened a tin of tuna chunks and drained it. Then I ran the beans under cold water until chilled, mixed with my tuna and a tablespoon of mayo with a dash of vinegar, salt and pepper! Then ate every mouthful!
Good luck x -
Lol lol lol!

Hello, I’m a newbie here and just entering week 3. I lost 12lbs in first two weeks. I’m not diabetic and hope to stay that way! I had a stroke 6 weeks ago and the last bastion for me is to shift some serious weight (like 5 stone) to avoid any future health problems.
