    Lucky, i hope a few “thats how the fight started” jokes might make you chuckle..

    I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first.
    “I’ll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.”
    He said, “Aren’t you worried about the mad cow?””

    Nah, she can order for herself.”

    And then the fight started…
    ~~~~
    My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a
    nearby table.
    My wife asked, ‘Do you know her?’
    ‘Yes,’ I sighed, ‘She’s my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she
    hasn’t been sober since.’
    ‘My God!’ says my wife, ‘who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?’
    And then the fight started…
    ~~~~

    My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary.
    She said, ‘I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 150 in about 3 seconds.’

    I bought her a scale.

    And then the fight started…~~~

    Perhaps make a big banner I have lost 32 lbs so bril just be patient a low mood always gets worse if we allow our mind to relate to it, one trick that helps me is to release endorphins to help you feel better is to put a pen or pencil sideways in your mouth so it is sticking out either end of your mouth so simulating your lips into a smile, this opens up pathways for endorphins to flow.
    It also stops me eating. Try it and let us know 😃😃😃🖍🖍🖍

    OH Lucky, don’t be down. I think you have the blanket of mardiness wrapped too tight around you 🙁 If I had any Nigella cake left I would UPS you a piece, quick smart. Also if I was closer I would come round and give you a BSD hug, or slap your legs and tell you to cheer up!

    I agree with eating the sister in law actually. She will almost certainly be under 800 cals and definitely low carb..

    Being 40 can seem to be kind of rubbish, but remember you are now 40 and 32lbs lighter than in May. I was on a real downer when I was 41ish, but I’ve got through it, and life now is the best its been! And I have you nut jobs to entertain me as I lose weight as well 😀

    Hey old lady (wish you picked another name as we should always tell ourselves positive words) so I change it to young spirit and will call you that. Haha)

    Anyway yea get the tape measure and measure your chest, waist, hips, one thigh, and one arm. I have clients do this weekly and do it myself as well. It’s an amazing motivator when the scale isn’t moving much certain weeks.

    Hugs!!

    Hey Sunny!
    I have a lot to lose also and have lost 39 on this plan (in middle
    If week 13 now) and 59 total since February.
    Still have 100 or a little more to go like you but just keep going. That’s the trick! It’s easy once you are rolling with it.

    And anyone on here saying they can’t lose due to age – it’s not true. I am 61 and doctors told me for 25 yes I couldn’t lose weight due to being hypothyroid. It was a crock and now those doctors are sending me their clients and I work with them and help them lose weight.

    I’m here! And guess what, I’m on another DOWNER! Don’t ask me why, I don’t know what the hell is going on with me, nobody has rattled my cage or anything (for a wonder!). Just utterly, utterly fed up at the moment. I could just pack an overnight bag and bugger off for a week on my own somewhere quiet with no TV, no internet, a box of wine and a journal. I wake up fine, bouncy if the scales allow, and the more the day goes on, the more meh I’m feeling. Didn’t help that I had to buy a massive triple layer chocolate cake for youngest son who turns 10 on Thursday. It’s on my dining table taunting me.

    Decided to leave the camping until next week. Go on Tuesday or something rather than this Friday. Might be a bit quieter then too. Picked up a few bits to take. But I’m just not feeling it this year. I’d normally have the living room full of camping stuff by now, ready to bounce.

    Hello Runforfun, welcome. God help you. Not the diet, no, that’s fine. I’ve lost 32 lbs in just over 6 weeks. It’s amazing. Just… God help you here. Run for the hills and don’t look back. It’s like Royston Vasey in a forum thread in here… 😉

    Tokyo, eat the sister in law. Problem solved. No offence to any vegans but… eat her. Otherwise, no idea. Tell her to bring her own food? Or ask her what you can make for her? Wilted kale on a chickpea wrap? I’m no help.

    Going to take more than a ******* bath bomb today, I tell thee… I think the elation of turning 40 has worn off, and it’s quite possible that I am having a mid-life crisis. Apologies.

    Hi
    There are a lot of us who have 100 pounds or so to loose, so never fear we are in it with you following in captainlynnes beautiful wake, we just follow her example , keep motivated, keep planning, and being patient, the good results will arrive most definitely. I say this from a 41 years of wasting time with slimming clubs etc, all they taught me was how to eat loads. If I can do this plan absolutely anyone can.
    So dont despair keep smiling.

    Frank that is incredible, whilst the diet makes this achievable, you still have to put in the work and have the willpower to push on and achieve such spectacular results. I am 4 weeks in and have lost 16lb, I am hoping to lose a similar amount in the next four weeks and another 16lb after the full blown diet to get where I want to be. My big motivator is doing this with my wife who has T2 diabetes and is on insulin, she has been steadily reducing her insulin as her levels have dropped, though still on the same level of Victoza and Metformin. Our first goal is to get off injecting insulin (and off the DVLA 3 year driving licence) then maintain the same principals to see if the others can eventually go in the bin. The BBC 2 programme “Fixing dad” was inspirational for anyone affected by T2 diabetes who wants to try and reverse it, if you missed it get it on catch up. Again well done.

    7.5lb in a week is not to be sniffed at LACali21!! I wish I could see the same. As a slow loser, I’m chuffed to bits if I can get to 3lb off in one week, with most weeks being more like half of that. What is great with the BSD though, is that week on week, there is almost always some sort of progress to be pleased about – lbs or inches lost, feeling healthier, looking better in your clothes, dropping a dress size, etc. Grab the positive with both hands and set your sights on the future!

    My partner, Jon, started the diet because his GP was on it and recommended it to him. Jon is not a huge fan of diets but gave it a go as he’d started getting arthritis in a toe and knew of its associations with insulin resistance and arthritis – Jon is 6ft and weighed around 109kilos. I agreed to be his diet buddy – I needed to lose that annoying last bit that never goes when you hit 50.

    We’ve now a month in and the diet has changed our life in so many ways. My partner weighed is now 98kg, I’m 67kilos instead of 71 and am a good size 12. We eat 800 calories on work days, and probably head into the 1000 cals in the weekend when we’re at home. We love the food. I am a pretty good cook and we eat a lot of “clean eating” type stuff from the Hemsley sisters – buckwheat pancakes and chick pea pancakes are family favourites . We love the food and the way it makes us feel. It’s given us our life back.

    We’re going on holiday in 3 weeks so will be following the 800 calories for 7 weeks but have both vowed that we wont return back to the way we ate before – Jon unsupervised turned away bread in restaurant the other day: – he was always My Bagel man . The alcohol is easy as we don’t drink and we don’t drive and cycle everywhere so the exercise is fine. We have also joined a gym.

    I’ll report back at the end of 7 weeks. Jon’s target is to get to around 94 kilos (i.e. below 15 stone) before the holiday and then continue the broad lifestyle so that he gets down to 13.5 which is his BMI.

    Way to go Happylife!!! You must be on cloud nine right now.

    Thanks all for the kind words everyone re my 10 sizes loss!
    Angiebabe you asked how I am adjusting and like you I enjoy wearing the really baggy clothes and pulling them out seeing I could fit two of me in them but my clients and hubby keep saying they are way too big so I was waiting for a big sale at the chubby lady store. Yesterday they had an all store annual clearance sale!! Usually I show my husband each thing as I try it on for his opinion as things don’t always got well but yesterday they all fit great so when I came out of the dressing room, he was there waiting to see each one by one and instead I just gave him a thumbs up and he smiled. It’s kinda neat because now he hasn’t seen anything on me yet so he will be surprised.
    All night he kept shouting joyously “you lost 10 sizes!!” As we both were kind of in disbelief honestly. I mean I look much smaller (not small) and clients and my doctor who hug me all said they can feel my ribs now (I thought them mentioning this was funny).
    I will say having all my shirts fall off my shoulders was getting maddening.

    Keep on it everyone and make sure you measure!! There were weeks I lost 0 lbs but I usually always lost inches. 1 week I lost no lbs and 5.5 inches on my waist! I think Bill said the theory is when we lose visceral fat sometimes our weighty can stay the same as our body adjusts but the fat still goes.

    Wishing you all the best! 💜

    Day 8 – 7.5lbs down. 🙂 I’m almost wondering if the shakes I drank at the beginning actually hindered rather than helped. I’ve been eating whole foods – salad – for the last few days and seem to be losing faster.

    Napangardi I actually found it easier to eat better when I was on my own. I only bought foods that were healthy. DH likes not so good foods so there is more temptations and he likes to eat out more than I did so again more temptations. It looks like you are close to Adelaide. We never got that far West, the farthest south we got was Sydney. It looks like you have beautiful countryside around you. I live in Saskatchewan Canada, which has NASTY winters! It gets into the -40 or 30s degree celcius. I really don’t like the winters but my DH wants to stay put here.

    Tuesday morning….. Spent the extra hours of the night watching Bernie Sanders and First Lady Obama chatting at the convention in Philly!

    WHAT A MISTAKE GOING OFF THE TIME SCHEDULE!

    Snacking during 90 minutes of chatting in Philly:
    1 Apple
    1 peach
    1/2 Cup greek Yogurt and blueberries

    I did not eat any fiber fruit on Monday. my stomach was constipated. Atleast one fruit a day in the daytime is needed.

    Here is the Philly I love….especially for eating! Seattle can not copy a cheesesteak; just like Chicago can;t copy a NYC Cheesecake!

    Well, off to Shoprite this afternoon. And no staying up til 11:30 tonight watch a Commie Democrat. I do not feel the bern.

    Where you see Geno’s Steaks in the video is where ROCKY went running up the street of Philly. he drank raw eggs…… Is that healthy to do? I never had uncooked eggs before. Does it taste like Chicken?? 😉

    Bonjour Icarus, j’habite en France aussi, pres de Bergerac depuis onze ans. Et vous????

    I think when you say ‘hypo’ you mean very low reading and feeling a bit shaky, a true hypo is when your eyes go blurry, you sweat and possibly vomit and black out and that is when the low has gone too far. It is just being aware of your own body and having something healthy on standby to eat – a few nuts or prunes. Obviously if it is a true hypo and he loses consciousness you will have learnt how to deal with it i.e. liquid glucose (you get sachets from the pharmacy) and if no improvement, call the samu. Like your husband I am probably on the same insulin Lantus in the pen and my 2 units is the same as his 2ml. I remember seeing my results going down and down and being a little afraid. After the second week it started to stabilize and I have been on the same units for a week with no intention of reducing further, unless I have another drop.

    You should publish his results so we here can keep up with his progress.

    Bon chance et bon courage.

    A tip I was given for helping to keep track while you are away, is using ketostix – actually I’m addicted now and use the daily. They are useful when you are away from home and can’t weigh, as they give you an indication of how things are going. I was away for ten weeks and gained 2.8lb in that time. I didn’t count anything at all while I was away, just avoided simple carbs – most of the time! I admit on occasion I caved and had things I wouldn’t normally consider on the BSD, but mostly I managed to eat within the principles of the regime.

    It is so easy to pick up the BSD again after a break, that you can be sure that you can get control again on your return and lose any weight gained during your holidays. Anyway, good luck on not gaining too much while you are away and losing it quickly on your return. Have a great holiday and please let us know how you get on.

    Hi there, it sounds to me like you are doing fine. As you have already discovered, having some fat in your meals, is a good way to help you feel full and stay feeling that way for longer. It might take awhile, but you will find that you can get down to the 800 and once your body has become accustomed to the new regime, I’m sure you will find it easy to maintain for eight weeks.

    Keep us posted on progress, as I’m sure you will have lots of good news to share soon.

    Well Vixter, that all sounds quite positive. Can’t really comment on the blood pressure monitoring and the recommended calories, as this came from a medical professional and she is obviously advising what she believes is the best course of action for your Mum.

    Yes some carbs are better than other. As you know, on the BSD you are advised to avoid bread, pasta, rice, etc and anything containing sugars, because these are simple carbs and it is these that our bodies become addicted to and causes that familiar blood sugar spiking, followed by hunger. However things like lentils, chickpeas, beans, nuts, quinoa etc are fine as they contain complex carbs, which don’t behave in the same way.

    Hope that helps – I’m sure others will offer up some additional advise soon. Good luck to you and your Mum and hope to see some positive results posted soon.

    Thanks for your comments. Yes, my husband is on insulin once a day. He had a mild hypo last night (first day of diet) and reduced his insulin by 2 mls (we live in France so numbers are different) and was ok during the night. He is on metformin as well. Monitoring his blood at least 5 times a day at the moment just to make sure it is staying stable. It is me who does the worrying as I hate seeing him have a hypo! So far enjoying the recipes (we love to cook) and hope it helps us a. lose weight and b. reduce Js medication!

    Don’t fret shinshine-girl – many of us are slow losers too, but with the BSD, you know that it will happen, even if it takes longer than you might like. It seems to be quite easy to consolidate a loss using this way of eating, so once you’ve lost 6lb, you can be pretty sure it’s not going to sneak back up on you. Anyway, don’t be down hearted, stay focused and enjoy becoming a healthy new you.

    Love this diet, thank you so much for all the research, guidelines and work put into the book. I don’t have diabetes but I was starting to put on weight at an alarming rate. I have completed 3 weeks so far, but was on holiday for 2 weeks in between and couldn’t continue. However, I’m in my 4th week and still seeing great results.

    I took my mum to the doctor yesterday as I’d like her to give it a go. She’s 82, has Diabetes 2 and takes medication to control her Diabetes and blood pressure. The doctor hadn’t read the book but was familiar with Dr Michael Mosley through the 5:2 so had no doubt this would be good too.
    She was happy for mum to do it, but wouldn’t be taking her off her medication and suggested giving her 1000 calories a day and an allowance of some carbohydrates. I asked her what she recommended and she said whatever she likes.
    With regard to monitoring my mum’s progress, she recommended we buy a blood pressure monitor, which she would be happy to demonstrate the use of, and to show us how to watch out for trends.
    As I’m quite new to this I was just wondering if you feel that’s good advice, as I want to make sure we’re doing the best for mum. And if some carbohydrates are better than others?
    Thanks very much.
