It couldn’t be simpler. Buy one of the yoghurt sachets (I’ve got 165g ones). Pour the sachet into the container and half fill with water. Put the lid on and shake until it’s dissolved. Top it up with water to the top and put the lid back on. Fill up the outer container (the big red one) with just boiled water to the top of the red insert. Pop in your container, close the lid. Leave! After 8 to 12 hours it will be set.

You can eat it straight away but it’s more like French yoghurt. If you chill it overnight it becomes more like British yoghurt.

This method involves repeatedly buying culture sachets, but I’m planning on trying to just use one culture and carry on making it with milk without having to buy more cultures. I’ll report back on how I get on!

Might try this tomorrow. Cheers for the heads up.

I can recommend the steak with red wine and creme fraiche sauce. I threw in a few thinly sliced chestnut mushrooms too. I’m having it again tonight. AMAZING!

Only problem is my kids love it too, so every time I have it, it costs a bloody fortune!

Well week three in the bag, only lost half a pound making it 23.3 lbs 10.86 kilos in three weeks, feeling very very well, sleeping well and feeling so alive as opposed to the dead feeling I had only three weeks ago before this plan.
I have to admit this week got sloppy with planning and measuring, and put on 2 lbs mid week, but they have gone, and I am now scrupulous with planning and measuring now.
I have always loved curries and I made one mid week, and was overwhelmed what a difference one onion makes in carbs phew, so delighted to have myfitnesspal to use to count everything. Mind you I really made a big mistake by joining the myfitnesspal community blog, I was bullied out by so many aggressively ignorant individuals, apparently I am an anorexic. Moi I don’t think so, I have never eaten and enjoyed my food so much as now. Does an anorexic have 150g strawberries and 50g full fat frage yog for their supper, because they have a few cals left, and they have been excellent all day I don’t think so.
Oh yes I have also lost 22.5 c.m from my body, which is 8 3/4 inches so of to have some more gorgeous strawberries and frage, and then have a look in the wardrobe and see if there is anything new I can get into that hasn’t fitted me for the past nine years. The last time I was this weight was in 2017. Two major illnesses really tipped the balance towards, enormous weight increase and total loss of wellbeing.
I love my weigh in Wednesday’s, but I always get so emotional, to have felt so poorly, to so quickly turn it around, using such simple natural tools. The world needs to know about this. But I fear it will be many years before real change happens. Anyway we have found it and are on plan, and rebooting our appetite control. As Ghandi said ” Be the change in the world that you wish to see”
Go for it BSD peeps be that change, let’s do it together.

    What have I missed?

Went to the outlaws at the weekend. Their diet is fairly healthy/med orientated anyway, so eating clean was easy. Apart from when me and the missus went out for a meal for our anniversary. Couple of pints before food then deep fried brie to start, fillet steak with sautΓ©ed potatoes, washed down with a bottle of Tinto all polished off with a large brandy. Damn it was good! Plus it didn’t really affect my weight! Far too much alcohol and sat fat though.

Still onwards and upwards. Still ruining myself in the gym and the pool and with just under 2 weeks to go until holiday I’m being like an angel now. I want to hit 87kg by the time I leave. 3.5k to go!!

By the way Janey, I know you’ve been struggling with yoghurt. We started making our own after the weekend using an EasiYo. SOOO simple to make and damn tasty too.

    Hello all,
After losing over 2st in my first 8 weeks, I’m now on week 21 with a little bit more of a varied diet but still within roughly 1000 cals. My problem is hair loss!
I’ve got shoulder length hair, not dyed or treated in any way. However it’s starting to fall out at an alarming rate! In the shower every day I get what looks like 50 strands in my hand then daily i’m having to clean my hairbrush. My bloods are all fine so I’m sure there’s no underlying illness. I’m 51 but have read that it’s not really affected by the menopause, which i’m heading for.Any other ladies or gents noticed hair loss?

that’s interesting Annais – I have some in the cupboard, but have never got round to trying them, most posters have been quite negative. I’ve been using up some dhansak sauce which was in the fridge, which has been delicious, and actually had small portions of rice the last couple of days (still within 50g of carbs) – I will try the konjak stuff!!!

I had a bad weekend – diet abandoned for a couple of days, put on 1.5k!!! it was stupidly one of those “well I had that, so having X doesnt really matter’ approaches – not very mindful. or sensible
BUT a couple of sensible days on Monday and Tuessday and I’ve lost that and a bit more, which is encouraging – not that I’m planning to use that as a model going forward.
    – and I’ve lost 10% of my start weight – not ‘nearly’ – actually got there at last.
No more blips for a while.

She sounds a lot easier than my Dad, whom I spent several years trying to eat a more ‘diabetic friendly ‘ diet.
He refused wholemeal, but I did get him eating that 50/50 bread, because I’d read that it was lower GI – all went well until he had a cataract operation. Once he could read the label he said he didn’t like it, and wouldn’t eat it anymore.

I’m waiting to clear a space in the freezer (so that I’m not tempted to eat the whole tub) after trying a couple of local waitroses, I did find that the Store Finder section on the website is good to use (I’ve had experience with other products where it simply gave all branches of a chain, whether or not that particular item stocked it, this doesn’t seem to do that).
Also, I had a problem with not getting the discount voucher emailed through after completing my details on the site, so I emailed them and they emailed one back.
I’m soooo looking forward to trying this

runforfun – must be tempting working with it all day – which is your favourite?
It’ll definitely be the salted caramel that I try – I don’t like mint flavoured anything.

However when I went to bed I couldn’t sleep so I ended up watching a movie and then still couldn’t sleep and it was 0100 at least before I was sleeping but never mind. Here we are in another day. My husband is on late shifts for the next 3 nights, so I can be up in the loft every night once the kids are in bed and get it all sorted and try to go to bed early as well.

Already seeing the benefits of just 2kg in my clothing.

+1 from me on everything Linda says.

I’m half way through week two here in the ACT and really happy with the BSD800.

For anyone thinking of trying the Slendier Konjac noodles – I bought the ‘spaghetti’ ones, mainly because they were the one my local Supabarn had in stock, and was really pleased to find there were two separate pouches in each packet. I have tried them in stir-fry last week (they smelled a bit fishy when I opened the packet – rinse well and soak in boiling water before use!) and last night I had them in a laksa. I know they’re not to everyone’s taste but they worked for me in both recipes and there were no complaints from the family!

I’m a bit concerned about plateauing weight loss because I know I can’t keep losing it at the rate I am at the moment (5kg in the last week and a half) but I am telling myself I had a lot to lose. What has been the experience of others?

Good luck to everyone – new starters and old timers.

Yes I have been on thyroid meds for 6yrs, I had gain 10kg by the time they diagnosed it and now I added 12kg in past 6yrs so a grand total of 22kg to loose. I have been on the diet strictly for the 8wks and lost 6kg and it has seemed so much slower then I thought I would (hoped to loose 10-12kg in those 8wks), but my measurements decreased more rapidly, I have dropped 2 sizes pleased to say I have now lost 10kg, and my activity increase has helped the thyroid I feel. Don’t get disheartened stick with it and Keep moving . Goodluck

    Hello FuzzyJammies!

Good for you and for us both that we are still on track! I was happy to see your message and your results – it’s always nice to have good surprises on the scale!

My Fitbit is definitely motivating me – it reminds me every hour to get moving and I love the buzzing it does when I hit 10,000 steps…which I have (at least) every day since I got it except two when I couldn’t get out because of work commitments. And it has been soooo humid here – a few days I really wanted to skip it.

Still sticking very closely to the diet and tracking what I eat and water, but hit a plateau this week: the same weight for about four days! Very frustrating! But just this morning I got down a bit and hope it’s the start of good things – I’m doing everything I’m supposed to so it has to work, right? 😊

Tomorrow is the beginning of week 5, FuzzyJammies!!! That is halfway there!

I have lost 18.5 pounds total on the diet (and 30.9 since 5 Jan) and haven’t the first clue about inches because I get radically different answers every time I measure. My clothes fit much better (some will have to go soon because they are too big!) and I’m starting to wear things I haven’t been able to get into for years, so that will be enough for me.

But my Fitbit reminds me I want to lose another 60 pounds, so there is much more work to do! At least I believe it can be done now!

Let’s stick to it, FuzzyJammies! Have things calmed down a bit for you? Are you finding it easier going? I hope so!

    Hi,

Long time reader of the forums, but your topic struck a chord with me.

My mum is 81, has Parkinson’s disease, recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and is pre-diabetic. On her last visit to the GP the Dr told her to try this diet as she didn’t want diabetes added to her list of problems. She’s not very active due to her ailments so 800 cals is probably all she needs. She probably has a few more than 800 cals as she has a milky coffee and greek yogurt with strawberries as extras when she wants a little more. We were very lucky that the GP recommended the diet, and was also on it herself as she wouldnt recommend anything to her patients that she hadn’t tried herself.

I mainly follow the menu plans/meals in the book, which does contain good carbs of pulses etc and in the 8 wks shes been on the diet has lost 14lb, which considering her activity level is great. No blood tests yet, due some next month but she feels fine considering all she has been going through with the RA. Also, on the day we go the hospital for her RA treatment we go out for dinner, so she has a treat meal once a week, where she can eat what she wants within reason!

We have both found the diet very easy, i also had/have lots of weight to lose so have been on the diet too although a bit longer and have lost 52lb in 13 weeks, and am carrying on till i lose another 75lbs i think.

Hope that is helpful, as others have said monitor your mum and how she feels, plenty of water to keep hydrated, but rest assured my mum with all her health problems is doing well on the diet and hopefully can avoid diabetes!

I know the BSD is all about battling diabetes, however I also have the added complication of an under active thyroid. My doctor recently took me off my medication after discovering nodules, that , thank goodness, tested to be benign. So am am 3 weeks into the BSD and have lost 2kg and 3cm off my waist. My BMI has come down one point and my resting pulse down by 6 beats a min. I started doing the BSD to move long term belly fat and get some control over my weight and get a more stable eating plan for life. I feel that if I have stable blood sugar levels that it has to help with my metabolism functions.
Does anyone else find it a slow process due to thyroid issues? Any other thoughts?

Hi Vixter, I am not so old as you mum, ‘only’ 70, and you do not say how overweight she is, but you do need to monitor her blood pressure regularly if she is on medication.

This time last year I lost 4-.5 kilos in a month on HPLC lo cal and my BP plummeted. I stopped the diet then – shakes – and one high protein meal – for other reasons but this time I am on BSD and knew to check my BP often as I am on medication also. A good friend your mum’s age – not overweight – took a double dose the other day by accident and ended in hospital for 3 days. I thought BP went down a point a pound, but it seems much more for me, so keep a watch on her.

Good luck to you both, I am i n week 5 and very happy as I am a lousy dieter – no BS problem – just fat! I also make non wheat pancakes but I have for years, and still put some honey on mine, and try to have a smaller one

    Hello!

I found it quite tricky to get back on track, but managed it today thankfully. I was disappointed that I only lost 2lb when I weighed myself on Monday. Any other time I’d think that was great, but it was a big change from week 1, especially since I didn’t feel like I had overdone it too much.

    Yesterday’s totals : 852 kcal, 46.2g carbs
    Today: 742 kcal, 38.6g carbs

Both days I’ve managed my 10k steps as well.

My mood has been all over the place as well, which hasn’t helped! I feel like I had a good day today, so I am determined to keep momentum for the rest of the week. Thank you for your support!x

This is very interesting. I found the posts about inulin helpful but have not located any sources of inulin powder in Australia. A CNC where I worked on my health team had read that ridiculously high levels of dietary fibre (40+ gms) can help with BSLs. I found levels over 30 gms hard to handle even though I am a slow eater. I see BSDers who have a problem start with a teaspoon and work up to the higher doses.
Also thanks for the info re best time to weigh for accurate body composition readings. It does seem to respond to weight loss – but only after a time. My visceral fat reads 10 on my Tanita Scales at the start of BSD. However I am in all sorts of bother obviously related to that modest level of visceral fat and have to focus on shifting it. Possibly genetic as all my family are underweight and are wowsers (except me) yet develop NAFLD and DM type II.
Question: But does anyone know what the visceral fat readings on body composition scales really equate to – is it a percentage or a density.

Eps, sorry, I didn’t answer that. It would be a good idea but… and I feel like a right plonker for saying this… I can’t deal with animal poo. Especially dog poo. Some people can, some can’t, I can’t. I also can’t open tins of cat or dog food? I start retching at the smell, so I am no use if you’re off on holiday, my friends know not to ask me to go and feed their animals lol. My husband is exactly the same too. We had two rabbits but that was because their poo was non offensive, small and solid. I haven’t even got anyone I could borrow a dog from to walk, all my friends have cats. And even if they did, if they did their business while out, I’d be in a heap by the side of the road, heaving and receiving an on the spot fine for not picking up lol. It has crossed my mind before but I just know I couldn’t do it and it wouldn’t be fair to the poor dog.

Fixing Dad was interesting. And definitely reinforced that I am doing the right thing. My husband is only 8 years younger than ‘Dad’ in the documentary, and I want many more years with him.

I’ve been doing some reading lately. It’s all related to low carb eating style. Dr Jason Fung writes about vinegar and fibre being ‘protective factors’.
With that in mind I’ve been using Apple Cider Vinegar and olive oil as a salad dressing.
Others do take apple cider vinegar with water.

You are welcome Yowzer49. I don’t think I saw the 10-20% in the book, but I did find it on this website. The book gave examples of people losing a lot of weight and when I did not lose that much initially, I was depressed. I found the 10-20% and that helped reset my expectations and things went great thereafter!
The other figures also not in the book, but are the standard amount of protein we need daily women – 40-45g and men 45-50g. The 450g fruit and veg was the one that surprised me……. I have tried to have the 5 fruit and veg a day and you would think that as a veggie that will be easy! Well yes and no. It was only very recently that I discovered the portion sizes for each component was 90g! I had been looking at my diet and 5 rasps with muesli – 1 portion, apple 1 portion, tomato (3 cherries with lunch) 1 portion, veg in soup – one, maybe 2 portions as it must have onions as well as eg squash etc. The weight I did not consider just the number! Given the rest of my diet was carbs – pasta, bread etc it is not surprising I was heading towards pre-diabetes fast and 27kg overweight!
Once you start keeping a food dairy and weight everything you start seeing just how badly you have been eating πŸ™ . Keeping to the 5 a day proportions mean that I do find I need that extra bit of carb – thus the 60g a day and I am still losing on average 2kg a week πŸ™‚ .
Good luck with the plateau if it arrives…… not everyone has one!
