    Hi ziggyszombie
Yes, thank you, I am pretty chuffedπŸ˜€

I was a size 16, bursting at the seams so to speak when I started and last week had to buy a new pair of work trousers in a size 12. Woo hoo!!

I’m 69kg now and at 5’6″ would like to get to 63-65kg as my goal weight.

I have found it to be the easiest ‘diet’ that I have ever done!
    Cheers

+1 from me on everything Linda says.

I’m half way through week two here in the ACT and really happy with the BSD800.

For anyone thinking of trying the Slendier Konjac noodles – I bought the ‘spaghetti’ ones, mainly because they were the one my local Supabarn had in stock, and was really pleased to find there were two separate pouches in each packet. I have tried them in stir-fry last week (they smelled a bit fishy when I opened the packet – rinse well and soak in boiling water before use!) and last night I had them in a laksa. I know they’re not to everyone’s taste but they worked for me in both recipes and there were no complaints from the family!

I’m a bit concerned about plateauing weight loss because I know I can’t keep losing it at the rate I am at the moment (5kg in the last week and a half) but I am telling myself I had a lot to lose. What has been the experience of others?

Good luck to everyone – new starters and old timers.

that’s interesting Annais – I have some in the cupboard, but have never got round to trying them, most posters have been quite negative. I’ve been using up some dhansak sauce which was in the fridge, which has been delicious, and actually had small portions of rice the last couple of days (still within 50g of carbs) – I will try the konjak stuff!!!

    Hi Annais
In regards to your question, here is my weight loss record week by week:
    -4.6kg, -0.9kg, -1.5kg, -1.2kg, -2.0kg, -0.4kg, -1.8kg, -1.7kg, -1.5kg, -1.0, -1.3kg, -1.9kg, -0.7kg, -1.3kg.
As you can see, it’s all over the place even though my exercise is consistent from week to week (only walking) as is my fluid consumption and I have got into a routine with my meals and just rotate the same meals from week to week. I think your body will simply dictate what you lose so long as you stick with the plan.
I’m very happy with the rate of loss and plan to just continue what I’m doing until I’m at my goal weight.
How did you go this week?
    Cheers

Hi Linda – I replaced the battery in my scale on Saturday and it immediately told me I’d put on 1.4kg so now I have no clue whether to trust any of the figures from the last two weeks! I am down to the second last hole on my belt though, which would indicate a loss of about 3 inches around my waist so I’m still happy and will let you know what the figures look like next week when I have more reliable info! I am still getting used to reminding myself to drink more water and less coffee and I’m also considering ways to increase my exercise levels. I love your cumulative figures too, they’re very heartening! I have a spreadsheet and graphs but they’ve all become a bit moot so I am going to have to rejig them now. Ho hum.

Frog – the other thing I’ve found is ‘kelp noodles’ which were expensive ($13AU per packet!!) but have a bit more nutritional value. They also look more like rice noodle than the konjac. I will keep using the konjac though because they’re less expensive and I still have two packets in the cupboard …!

Now I am going to put away my exclamation marks and get back to work. Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Just wanted to share, on Facebook earlier this week a post for https://theproteinbreadco.com.au/shop/ came up. Less than 5g of carbs for a pizza base and not cauliflower. I have ordered some to try so I cannot recommend them as yet but may be worth a try?

They do pizza bases, bread and muffin mix.

Hi – I live south of Sydney and starting BSD tomorrow … Had gestational diabetes in 2009 when I was pregnant with my son, and latest check up at GP has my blood sugar levels just into pre-diabetic range, so time to get serious. Am most worried about cooking meals and still keeping my husband and nearly 7-old son (who loves pasta!) happy as well.
I’ve read the book, and one thing I’m confused about is everyone talking about counting carbs. None of the recipes in the book lists carbs, only calories. Can anyone explain how to count carbs if using the book? Thanks!

    Hi Mel71
Welcome to the forum, you’ve made a great choiceπŸ˜€
I’m in Sydney and now over 16 weeks in with a loss of over 23kg so far, so this does work!
I don’t have diabetes or pre-diabetes so can’t advise there, but I can tell you that it is essential to keep your carbs to less than 50g per day and no ‘simple’ carbs, only complex carbs.
I’ve downloaded an app called EasyDietDiary and I weigh, measure and enter everything I eat and have done so since day one. It’s quite quick once you get used to it and if you play around with it, you’ll quickly get a handle on what you can eat and what you need to steer clear of. Others use My Fitness Pal, but I haven’t tried that.
I feed my family what I eat, but the kids are adults now, so if they don’t like it, they can get their own!
Remember also not to be afraid of fat, don’t eat anything low fat or lite and drink at least 2-3 litres of non cal fluid per day. Exercise is also important, but all I do is walking.
Good luck and don’t be afraid to ask questions, someone will jump in to help.
    Cheers

    Hi all from Tassie.
Day 8 on the BSD and weigh in this morning showed 5.9Kg off.
    Guess who’s a happy camper!
Pity it won’t continue at that rate, but the signs are encouraging.
Fortunately, I’m one of those who can stick to a fixed regime and not need to vary my daily menu to escape boredom. Simple, uncomplicated meals with the ability to snack if I don’t keep myself busy enough to ignore the hunger (Low level!!). That’s what I like about this diet….. And it works!!!!

Hi all, another aussie girl here! I live in Vic and Ive been BSDing for nearly 7 weeks now. Just over 10kgs down and about halfway to my goal of a healthy BMI. Im a T2D of 16+ years. The BSD has changed my life πŸ™‚ I’m off insulin and BP meds in 7 weeks. Almost unbelievable!

Great thread and great summary of BSD advice by Linda πŸ™‚

I’m still here, mostly reading but jumping in if I think I can help.

I’m still on maintenance but eating very few carbs and lots of fat so I won’t keep losing.

Lots of bacon and eggs, omelettes with cheese, olive oil, nuts and avocados but only moderate protein as any excess that the body doesn’t require will convert to sugar.

My cholesterol and sugar numbers are great and my doctor even called me her ‘poster girl’!

The BSD has been the best thing that ever happened to me, I’ve gone from a size 16 to a size 8 after losing 33kg and I feel great at 56-58kg (I’m 5’6″)

The best advice I can now give is just stay away from all simple carbs and for those that are not losing at 50g of carbs a day, keep cutting that amount down by 10g at a time until you start losing again. Your body doesn’t ‘need’ carbs and the more you have, the more your brain will crave them. Reducing the carbs are more important than the calories.

Best wishes everyone, this isn’t a diet, this is the rest of our lifeπŸ˜€
    Cheers

Thanks Linda – your stats sound very similar to mine and are very inspiring. I’m 5’6″ and started at 87kgs and size 16/18. I’m aiming for 20kg loss initially, but expect may need to go an extra 5-10kgs to be at right BMI. But that is still a way off and TBH I can’t even conceive what I’ll look like sub-70 as it’s been more than 20 years! I find I’m averaging around 30g of carbs daily (and never over 50) and the weight loss has been continuous.

How long did your weight loss take, and how much did it slow down as you got closer to goal?

    Sorry Lara
I just realised I didn’t answer your question.

My original goal was 63kg and that took me 20 weeks, that gave me a loss of 27kg. I’m now at 30 weeks since starting in April and floating between 56-58kg. I figured my body would tell me where it wanted to stay weight wise.

It didn’t ever really slow down, other than the first week where I lost 4.6kg, I regularly lost between 0.5kg to 2kg a week, right to the end.

I was/am consistent with my walking, I took up yoga twice a week towards the end, I didn’t cheat with ‘bad’ carbs at all and I think I had only about 4 glasses of red wine in the entire 20 weeks.

I’ve lost the desire for alcohol now and haven’t really had much since. I don’t crave sugar or carbs anymore either which is interesting as I was a chocoholic/sweet tooth.

Because the amount of fat I am eating has increased, I get fuller quicker and I simply don’t eat as much.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers
    Linda

Have just dropped into this thread. Linda – your results are phenomenal. No wonder you are your doctor’s poster girl. I am 5ft 6 also and am 61kg. My Consultant and diabetes specialist nurse say I really shouldn’t go lower but I also feel – like you – that I could drop a bit more. Did your doctor advise you not to lose to much weight?

    Hi KrysiaD
When I was at the doctor, I was 57.9kg and she did tell me not to lose any more. My BMI at that point was 20.5 and I when I questioned that a normal weight BMI went to 18.5, she suggested that was for someone with a smaller frame and I should stick around this weight. She measured my waist circumference and said it was under the ideal maximum of 80cm (mine is now 78cm) – for men, it needs to be under 94cm.
I seem to be floating now between 56.5kg to 58kg and I’m happy with that. I’m not trying to lose more, it’s just happening that way.
Congrats on your weight loss, you can be very proud of yourself πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
    Cheers

Hi Linda, thanks for the extra info. My weight loss pattern and overall target seems very similar to yours. I know comparisons to others are not always helpful, but it’s good to see a “match” πŸ™‚ I too have had steady losses over the 7 weeks so far, averaging 1 to 1.5 over the period. I’m walking most days and planning to get back to yoga / pilates soon. I haven’t had any bad carbs and I don’t usually drink much so haven’t missed alcohol at all. As of today I’m 11kgs down in 7 weeks so well pleased with that. So good to hear that you continued to loose steadily over the 30 weeks. Congratulations, and thanks again for sharing πŸ™‚

That is very helpful to know that you have found your ideal weight is near the bottom end of your normal BMI. My feeling is that my ideal weight will be around 58kg also as I don’t have a small frame either.

I have upped my calories to between 1000 and 1200 calories a day so I lose the remaining 3kg slowly but am still keeping carbs low.

Hi Everyone! I am an Aussie starting this diet tomorrow! Eek!
