Well done SunnyB, good to hear that the losses are mounting. Despite the tick up from a lower weight during the week, it sounds like the main trend is in the right direction and that’s the main objective. You’re tantalisingly close to that mini goal.

I showed a 4.2lb loss for the week, so I’m very happy it wasn’t a scale blip yesterday! So pleased and thankful of that whoosh, it has really perked me up. Only 2.9lb to go until I hit my official goal weight.

As I’ve got no nice round stone barriers to break through (12 stone 8lb target), my mini-goal is 0.8lb which would see me achieve a total 70lb loss.

Hope everyone is keeping well, looking forward to hearing from you all.

    Hi Jacks –
Thanks for the tip re those flapjacks – I couldn’t find jumbo oats – are you in the UK?? What you do makes sense thank you.
But tell me how do you get 24 out of the batch? I could do 16 – anyway the rest was granola – so I thought a couple of teaspoons on yoghurt would be rather delicious.

The seedy flapjacks are a staple in my fridge. I make a batch every couple of weeks and freeze half down. My partner (non-BSD’er) is loving them too.

I also had the granola result the first time I made them. I’ve found using 100g of jumbo oats and 50g bran helps keep them together, instead of 50g jumbo/100g rolled with bran. I put them in the fridge to set properly after they’ve cooled and they’ve held together well.

    Happy flapjacking!

Hello everyone, I’m from a drizzly UK. I started on 21 January so I’m behind most of you. Congratulations on some good results. Just a few questions from me as my weight loss is slow despite low calorie.

I am 10 days in doing the BSD 800 and lost 3.5 lbs, much less than most of you in early diet. I have been stuck for a few days. Waist is down 2 inches though. I have 65 lbs to lose. Mini goal is a holiday to Spain in April when I hope to be down 20 lbs. I’m divorced and live alone. It’s easier in some ways as I don’t have to shop and cook for others, but harder in that I have no support.

    1. I realised I wasn’t drinking enough water, so read up on all that last night on here and on the web. Ouch ! This morning a big headache as if I had been on the red wine last night ! (I’m not drinking any alcohol for 8 weeks). I was peeing a lot yesterday and was sure I would get a big loss today, but just lost 0.4lbs. Today I will get my full 2 litres down and see what happens. Any thoughts ?
    2. I also realised my carb count is too high. I’m averaging 70g when it should be under 50. The extra carbs are all from vegetables (I’m not eating any from below ground but some are still quite high) which seems unfair, but I’m planning to cut down on veg and increase the fat. This goes against all we have been taught, but I’m going to try. Will this help ? Any tips ?
    3. Finally, I’m not exercising as I should. I have MS and can’t walk far, tend to fall and get injuries so have to be careful when out on my own. I also get fatigue. This is no excuse I know, and I need to do an exercise DVD. It’s ready to go, but not done it yet ! I must build that in to my routine from today ! How much has exercise contributed to your losses those of you with big reductions ? I feel like my journey will be slow and long !

    Best Wishes all

Yay way to go RozyDozy!!!! Great news! Congratulations on reaching that mini-goal, you must be so happy and justifiably pleased with yourself.

Hope your weigh-in goes well cmawp. That was an impressive whoosh, so should hopefully be good news for you today.

I came in at 1.2lb less than this time last week. My scales have shown a bounce back from the lowest registered weight this week, but this seems to be normal, so I’m not stressing. I am hopeful of hitting my mini-goal at the next weekly weigh-in – just 1.2lb to go now to get to 9st dead. Then I’ll be setting my sights on pushing below that – not decided yet, what to set as the next mini-goal though – prob 8st 11lb.

Think the nutri-ninja breakfasts are helping – the increased fibre certainly seems to be aiding bowel function.

Looking forward to reading everyone else’s results. Good luck for a good week too – keep going everyone, we’ll soon be looking at moving to maintenance!

    Hi Theodora,

I have always been a “hot” person but the BSD really hit me with how cold I felt even in a mild Autumn. For me it lasted six to eight weeks, but then I upped the exercise and that seems to have reset my system. I still do feel colder in my hands than I used to, but equally my hands feel “slimmer”, so maybe it’s a insulation thing.

So for me there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

    Good luck

    Hi all

We are all doing so well aren’t we!!!

Today was a massive milestone for me, its week 4, day 7 and i have hit my stone and entered the next stone bracket!! 13st13lbs!

That’s 14lbs in 28 days. I am so so happy. I was laying in bed last night thinking that my losses were slowing but I have lost 3lbs this week. That is a rate I like. I have been weighing myself every day and I am seeing the patterns emerging and I am aware of my body. I stay the same for a few days then have whoosh and lose 1-2, then stay the same for a few and then whoosh again. It seems to have been steady that way for the 4 weeks I have been doing this and long may it continue!

Onwards and downwards as they say – I have 18 days until I fly out on holiday – lets see whether I can get to 13st6lbs which is my mini goal for holiday… It’s going to be tight but I’m going to try!!!

Hope you are all well – much love from a grey, drizzly England!!!

Hi all – good morning! Foggy and grey outside – SO looking forward to the first signs of spring! Out walking today at 6:30 – the dogs needed to go, I certainly didn’t! but it means I’m already 4,000 steps in for today.

Still on a fast from 11am yesterday morning – although I had to sample a couple of mouthfuls of cake yesterday as we were trying to order our wedding cake, which we’ve not done – PEAK!

Weight is also down another pound since last Tuesday – PEAK but even better, my OH dropped 4lbs this week!

My only pit at the moment is I can’t get warm!! – it’s not particularly cold today either – is wearing a wooly hat in the office a step too far?

JM – congrats on the 11 miles – that time will come down I’m sure – keep it up! We are off to the Peaks at the end of February so maybe I’ll make time to spend a day walking – with frequent rest stops for our very short legged pooches lol

Have a good, peak filled day all x

    HI Natalie

I have about one square a week so I don’t think I really fit the criteria for your challenge but I’m happy to cheer you on and to be honest, the office where I work is full of the stuff constantly and as Easter gets closer I know I’ll find it harder to resist – got for it and good luck!!!

  • Morning all from rainy South Wales. Jeez, it’s horrible out there today! The dog is hiding under my duvet, pretending he can’t hear me getting ready for our walk, so I’ll give him another 5 minutes.

That’s great Daisiesmum, how lovely to be able to pass on the word, as it were! I have a (slender) friend who always wants to know all about the BSD but am aware of the others (less slender) rolling their eyes, so I have to play it down a bit. I am aware I can come across as smug!

Out of interest (well, of interest to me anyway) I had the apple and porridge breakfast from the recipe book yesterday as a treat. I haven’t had porridge since I started back in April. It was yummy! I rather undid the good work for the rest of the day by eating half a tub of mascarpone. That’s over 500 calories!!!! Took about 2 minutes to eat. However, I still maintained/lost a couple of ounces so I’m happy.

Not exactly a well balanced diet nor a good relationship with food though!

    Happy Monday everyone.

  • Lovely to read your posts again Verano. Hope you’re well and truly on the mend. I’ve cooked the pork in mustard sauce several times. Really lovely. I find it helpful when other suggest recipes. Sometimes good to be told what to eat!
    Other suggestions will be welcomed!
Have put on weight after a good weekend so here I go again! But I will get there.

  • Well, my GP (locum) says I should stop the diet and up the meds if necessary because ‘850 calories and no starch isn’t healthy for anyone, and especially not a diabetic’. sigh*. He also said it would be the drugs, not the diet, that’s brought my blood glucose down and stable.

I’m not going to be doing that, but will leave out the glicozide today and test regularly through the day to see what’s what. Own (more supportive) GP back from hols on Thursday. Not easy, this…MKx

Wow it’s crazy that you guys are basking in the heat over there and it’s just well cold and wet here 😥, though it sounds ridiculously hot atm!

Day 1 of week 4 (wow already!) and I’m 9.6lbs down with a loss of 3.8lbs this week which I’m quite pleased with. Think I had a mini-whoosh overnight as it was 1.2lbs on the scales this morning. Feeling really positive that this WOE is working for me and I’m hoping if I continue through maintenance that’s goodbye to GERD and the need for PPIs.

Apologies in advance men, but I note that some ladies have reported their menstrual cycle restarting after a long time whilst on BSD, have any ladies experienced the opposite (I tried to search forum)? I have regular cycles but am a week late so far, although my partner and I are also trying to conceive got a negative pregnancy test yesterday 😥 so am wondering whether it’s due to BSD and hormones?

  • Morning all – maintaining nicely (actually a pound off but that’s fine for me as I do tend to fluctuate quite a bit). Did a bit of experimental fasting this weekend which was surprisingly easy, and I got LOADS done as I saved myself about 3 hours of cooking, eating and clearing up! Wedding invites ordered, guest list prepped, wedding cake ordered, disco playlist started – it’s all coming together….now for an outfit – not as easy as you’d think!!!

Also went for a swim, four walks (with the dogs) and some HIIT while I was waiting for the kettle to boil on the several cups of herbal tea I had!

Have a good day all xx

  • Good morning all, I hope everyone is enjoying their maintenance journey. I had a tremendous day yesterday, when I arrived at my friend’s house for lunch, she was waiting with an array of ingredients ready and asked me if I would show her how to cook a BSD friendly meal!!! I was thrilled, there was also nuts and cheese to snack on later! I was able to explain a bit about BSD without bombarding them with information – the evidence speaks for itself!

    Happy BSD Monday everyone.

  • Well I don’t come on here for two days and I’ve missed LOADS – sorry about that. Just trying to catch up.

So well done to all those of you who are upping exercise, frantically counting carbs and seeing weight loss on the scales, that’s brilliant news!
For those who are struggling with hypos (man!) gains and water retention, well today is a brand new day, another day to sort everything out and try again, whether that be grabbing yet another glass of water, trying to find that perfect balance with meds, or going back to the counting board with carbs, I wish you good luck and happy BSD-ing.

‘Officially’ I dropped 4.25lbs this week (I have a little red book and I log my Monday weight every week – nothing else counts – really) so am delighted, am 4.5lbs lower than my original target, and 1.5lbs from my revised target. I fasted from 7pm on Friday to 7pm on Saturday and then from 11am yesterday but I’m not really counting that as I had to test cake yesterday in order to order our wedding cake so that’s done and it was lovely – chocolate, carrot and lemon & coconut for us 🙂

Have a great day all xxx

  • sunshine-girl, there’s honey and there’s honey. A lot of supermarket honey is from bees fed sugar at some point during the year, usually winter because the beekeeper has taken so much of their honey that they need to be fed sugar to keep them alive. Honey that does not come from nectar doesn’t contain all the trace elements of what I call ‘real’ honey. Plus, the processing can vary quite a lot. Some honey is heated to make it flow quicker from the comb, thereby likely damaging those valuable trace elements, and most commercial honey is spun at high speeds in what is little more than a centrifuge to release it from the combs, thereby exposing it to a lot of oxygen, affecting its flavour and probably the trace elements.

bloke41, it sounds like you’ve got fantastic honey there. Me, I’m a wannabe beekeeper!

    Hi SusannahD
Nearly 7pm here now and still 35 deg outside! Going to be another scorcher tomorrow as well. Ah well, lucky I don’t work tomorrow either, just have to spend it around the pool again!😀

It’s funny, but I’m only just starting to get used to how my body looks now, I kept walking past mirrors and thinking ‘that can’t be me’! Especially when it happened so quickly. I’ve gone from a 16 to a size 8 and had to buy a complete new wardrobe, right down to the bras and undies! There’s no way I’m going to go back to eating sugar and carbs again, even for Christmas and my birthday a couple of weeks ago, I ate BSD friendly food!
This had to be a lifestyle change forever because if we go back to eating the way we did before then we’ll go back to looking the way we did.
Hope tomorrow is not too hot for everyone on the East Coast.
    Cheers
    Linda

  • Good morning everyone and good luck to Gillykins, nmulcahy, pennant, heath, Kitty Malne MJ49, Ren65, juju68, ciaobella and Alexandra uk and all those starting today (like me).

I have raging tonsillitis today so not feeling in the best of moods. On the upside the thought of eating is currently filling me with dread so that may help me on my first day.

Today’s fasting BSL: 8.7. However yesterday it was 7.7. I may not have fasted as long or as well – I can’t remember if I took strepsils in the night so not the best reading probably.

I also want to lose a lot of weight as I have a *lot* to lose so will be tracking weight loss on a daily basis and centimeter loss on a weekly basis.

However, primary and immediate goal here is to follow the plan like the doc suggested so I don’t have to go on metformin, statins and more. The more I read about diabetes, the more I can see how it’s been affecting me for the last year and I know I will feel better once my BSL drops into a normal range.

    Hi

My cookbook arrived yesterday. Lots of lovely ideas.

Had wine at the weekend, and overdid the calories but not the carbs when out for lunch with friends yesterday. So…..scales show the damage this morning! Back to the straight and narrow today.

I feel for all you Australians suffering from the heat; it’s cold and wet here in the UK, makes comfort food very appealing!

Jmarie: super blood results. I’m so pleased that they turned out fine especially as you were so concerned about them. And keeping within the BSD framework as well it all deserves a celebration…some nice clothes? a manicure? pedicure? Time for a reward!

These days it seems that it’s not just the weekends that go quickly…I just wish time would slow down a little, I never seem to have enough.

JulesMaigret; the 26 miler sounds impressive. I’m really pleased I signed up for the 1,000 mile walk because it gets me moving but my daily walks are still in single figures. The tax? well, what can I say, it’s one of the two certain things…

My peak for yesterday: a super wonderful walk along the promenade finishing with a coffee on the terrace of a lovely restaurant. The sun was warm and the sea blue.

The pit: I’ve become reacquainted with the 300g I lost the other day. And I know exactly why. I have to, really have to track my calories. I don’t know why I don’t…just laziness, I suppose. I must be accountable. (need to write that 100 times!)

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week….have a good day!

  • Hi Julia …… no IV antibiotics are no fun especially when thy wake you up at 1am to give you another dose!! Amazing what a bite can do! No idea where mine came from just glad it’s on it’s way out now. Really pleased though to be back in my own bed which I’m sure will help with my recuperation.

Sunshine-girl …. I am taking it as easy as I can!! To be honest the antibiotics I’m on now are knocking me out so not much choice but to take things easy! Funny how, even in hospital, I was aware of BSD eating!! It must be so ingrained now that I was making reasonably good choices when I could. Just pleased to get back to ‘real’ food again. I’m going to try the ‘pork in a mustard sauce’ that you speak of but use chicken instead. Sounds like a nice easy recipe. Need inspiration at the moment. I think I’m in a rut eating the same few meals over and over. May start a new thread!!!!!

Actually on the Weds night 25 days in I felt very weird and a bit anxious in bed about midnight
I was restless and couldn’t sleep and knew I was low on calories/salt/sugar or all
I had to have a slice of bread and butter to settle me
    It was quite unsettling
The next morning i had a 400 cal breakfast and felt a lot better

Have to be careful drinking and getting enough salt and at least some carbs I reckon

I’m not T2 or Diabetic so not sure how that affects me

See how we go this week by Friday

    Hey hey
Some advice from the dark side:

Avoid Wineries on a hot day on Australia Day as they lead you to commit many dietary sins

Basically I have gone mad and had a 3 day wine and socialising binge

My weight went up 0.6kg on my great 7kg loss the previous 3 weeks
Big Oops but I can assure you that 3 days of wine and merriment can put on 1.5kg

That’s my last social planned and Feb diary empty so Fasting February here I come

Just near the end of Monday and had 400 cals but still full from the weekend lol
I got complacent and paid the price

    Onwards and upwards

    Hi,
Just discovered this great website, so much great information.
It is still January.. by one day so hoping to join this convesation 😃.
I started the BSD on the 2nd Jan and had the 4 week weigh in today and have lost 8kg and fasting blood sugar is down from 7.0 to 4.8, so happy, this is the best weight lose diet I’ve ever done and I’ve done a few!
Was really interested to read about the salt loss, thank you for adding the link LindA. Have noticed a bit of leg cramping the last couple of days and some eye floaters which I can now sort out.
Enjoy the rest of the day.
    Cheers Kate

Hi Linda – we are down to 29.5 here but for you I would be doing exactly as you – in and out of the pool – 40 feels like a furnace!

Yes dried fruits – oh dear I ate prunes (in need) lots of calories. Dried unseeetened cherries are ok from Costco in tiny amounts it seems. I used them to make the flapjacks for visitors.

You’ve done brilliantly on your weight loss journey – 33kgs in 6 months is fantastic. You must feel like a different person and healthy the most important achievement.

Right everyone, I’m just checking in to let you know I am still alive.

Since I last posted life has not been easy. In short, I’m paddling very hard under the surface with my new company but it’s proving hard going (economy wobbly here with oil crisis/ Trump etc) and I’m not certain how much longer I can viably (financially) keep up self-employment. It seems it’s just the wrong time to do it. Even just yesterday I was warned that my client in Saudi, who wants to renew my contract, might not now be able to – and that contract is my largest and pays my rent. So my anxiety levels have soared, leading to comfort eating, insomnia, general miserable state etc and it’s been a real fight to keep going and face forward and not down.

On top of that, my brother has been diagnosed with a fairly rare cardiovascular condition (to do with blood lipids) that affects 1 in 10,000 people and raises dramatically his risk of early heart disease, stroke etc. That’s bad enough, except it’s genetic and both my little brother and I now have a 1 in 2 chance of having it too. I am having tests on Thursday which should confirm it either way; my little brother is refusing to get tested. The condition’s progress can be slowed down but it would mean a pill every day for the rest of my life if I have it and there’s consequences to that too. I don’t ‘do’ conventional medicine as a first preference. I am relatively comforted by the fact that a recent cholesterol test came back with excellent results (4), whereas my brother’s was 11-15 (which is how he was sent for more tests in the first place) but apparently this does not mean that I don’t have this condition. My little brother burying his head in the sand is a source of worry for us all. My affected brother’s doctor has not really given him any nutritional advice except to not drink alcohol daily (which he does not) and lower his intake of processed foods (which he lives on). I find this insubstantial and am sure there is more he could be doing.

Oh, and The Chef and I broke up. Not nastily, but I can’t build a relationship with someone I never get to see!

So I have regrouped and taken some decisions. Among these, I have started job-hunting (which might take me anywhere in the world), give up smoking (which I only started recently) and I am back on Fast800. It turns out that a combination of a low-fat Med diet with no meat or dairy, which is what I was originally doing last year, is the best nutritional plan for my brother’s health condition. He won’t follow it but, whether I have this condition or not, it is now going to be my life.

I’m hoping that my anxiety levels reduce too as more stable job options (hopefully) open up and that the effect of the BSD starts to help build back up my self-confidence levels which has taken a small recent hit.

So I’m still here in the background but am focused with my head down on resolving the current stresses and moving forward positively. I believe February will be much easier!

Love to everyone, congrats on the losses, commiserations on the disappointments and happy recent birthday PatC.

    Hi SusannahD
I’m in Sydney, it’s 40 deg in my backyard at the moment, but I’m lucky enough to have a pool, so I’m staying cool jumping in and out as not a work day today.

Before BSD, I was a massive overeater but after losing 33kg from April to October last year (now on maintenance) have found that my appetite has significantly reduced. A lot has to do with the fact that I have not increased my carb intake, only my saturated/monounsaturated fats (stay away from the polyunsaturated fats, they are really bad for your health).
Take care with the dried fruits also as they are particularly high in fructose and carbs and most of us don’t eat them.

Hi Chrissie63, hope you’re doing ok.
Check out this link for low carb high fat recipes on the diet doctor website, they are adding to it all the time, so if you want a change from the recipes in Dr M’s book, there’s plenty to choose from here. They also do some great articles.

Hi there Chrissie – I feel for you up there in Newcastle – dreadful heat – so far we’re nowhere near our 35degrees and it’s pouring!! I wish you good air conditioning.
You’ve done incredibly well – that’s a fabulous weight loss – and the most important part is those readings – you must be so delighted that it’s working for you so well.
I’ve bought the cookbook and I can recommend it! I’ve got both the 5:2 and this BSD – thought 2 were even better!!
I made the flapjacks recipe yesterday – too delicious!

I had people for afternoon tea and made cupcakes for the children and any adults (that was tempting) but I resisted. And made the flapjacks – which didn’t look so good but really were – hard to cut into 24 – I got about 12 and crumbly “granola”! I made the guilt free choc brownies which only went down well with my 3 year old granddaughter!

    Hi Susannah,
I’m in Newcastle – pretty hot here today! I’m just starting week 3 of the BSD. I’ve lost 5kgs and my BSL and blood pressure are both down considerably. Much more happy with the readings than the weight loss although that’s awesome too. Diet is not as hard as I feared (after the first few days which were hideous!) although I’m starting to struggle for recipes so I’ve just ordered the cookbook. I have needed to supplement magnesium as well as add more salt to things -which feels really weird!
    Welcome aboard and good luck
    Chrissie

Hello I live in Melbourne – I’ve just completed the first week on the BSD – one minor minor headache caused by me – didn’t drink enough water on a terribly hot day! Where are you from – how’s that heat?? Melbourne’s doing its usual – what a weird weather day!
Drinking more water seems extremely important- to prevent headaches.

I’m really happy with my first week’s weight loss 1.6kgs but what I’m really pleased with is that I’ve not been ravenous or even hungry!! Must be eating more protein &!loads of vegetables and being determined too.

Can I join the group of January starters – great idea.

    Theodora,
I wouldn’t worry too much, Like Krystal and Mixnmatch, I was also cold in the beginning but things seem to have normalised now and I’m fine. Although, like Natalie I’m in Australia too and 37c where I am today! (Hi Natalie!)
I’m sure your body will do the same, it’s probably still in shock and trying to get used to its new fuel source!!
Delicious sounding dinner by the way 🙂

    Hi,
Tried to unwind this weekend but having no sucess.
    Walked and walked and walked.
Made sure my carbs are down.

thinking of putting a pound on the lottery.😬

Now for all those who have been reading everything in the blogs but not knowing when to start, how about today. It’s Chinese New Year. New you, new lifestyle. Come on the waters fine. Take the plunge. Don’t forget the website isn’t just for perfectionists but they are welcome, it is for human beings. Or as I used to say when I was little …. human beans

    Love Lucia
    Xxxx

  • I MJ49, good luck with your reaching your goal. I started on Jan 26th and so far so good. Am trying to stay off the scales until week end on Thursday but did sneak a peek this morning and all looking good! 2kg down. Getting quick results in the first week, while I work out what foods/meals work for me, is a great motivator. Good Luck

Crikey, Esnecca, well done you! 🙂 You must be so proud of yourself – I’m proud of you 🙂

I have probably blown my 800 calorie allowance this evening – though not actually totted up yet (normally do the sensible thing and tot up BEFORE I eat) – I had 2 courses, consisting of a small portion of smoked haddock, with a dollop of greek yoghurt on top, followed by a sprinkling of grated cheese, baked in the oven (was delicious), followed by roast lamb, gravy and mint sauce,, roasted cauliflower, tenderstem broccoli and sugarsnaps, so all within the boundaries of BSD, but maybe a higher calorie content than I have been allowing myself. Let’s see if I feel any warmer for it. 😉

Natalie, hot baths are great, but I do like a steaming hot shower – my o/h can’t even put his hand under my shower water and cannot believe how hot I have it.

Mixnmatch, thank you for your contribution, I am encouraged to think that this may soon pass.

After today’s blowout, I will go back to a strict 800 cals for another week, as it is forecast to be much milder this week, and see how it goes – it may have passed by then. If not, I will try increasing my calories a bit, Thank you everyone.
