Bill that’s a fantastic weight loss….well done to you.
Hedds……brilliant news, you will inspire lots of people.
I can’t believe how much weight people are losing …..there doesn’t seem to be a downside and more people joining everyday…..something quite amazing is happening and I love that this site is a celebration and a positive reinforcement for all.
I’m now in week two, someone at work noticed my weight loss and the fact that it was coming off my middle….am starting to see a waist so finally I’m losing from the right places.
Keep it up every one! -
Hi everyone, Having been a yo yo dieter all my life i thought i would try the blood diet. I have just found the forum too. Day 7 and I have lost 9.5lbs, I am so shocked and happy! Only another 5 stone to go 🙂
-
Hi SaltyStan, just started today also. I’ve had an oatcake before the gym, breakfast was scrambled eggs & sm salmon, lunch was nat yoghut with passion fruit & toasted almonds and dinner was chilli & cauli rice. Thatis 1000 cals so I need to sort self out. Was really ready for dinner at 5.30pm so hope will not be starving later. I’ve drunk plenty of water today so as not to dehydrate. Starting weight 14 stone 121b.

Auntieambel, that is amazing! A nice bit of inspiration for those of us struggling with the first few days. Great job!

Thanks for your replies. Think I am going to stick to the book calories. Have just had my evening meal of baked aubergines with lamb and pomegranate. Very tasty but not sure how hungry I am likely to be by the time I go to bed tonight.
Have only found today hard because I am so used to grazing throughout the day. -
Hi Womble, As in my post just now to HelenD, I hope your first day is going well.
-
Hi HelenD
How is your first day? I have to admit I’ve had 1000 cals. An oat cake before gym workout this morning, smoked salmon & srambled egg for breakfast, natural yoghurt, toasted almonds and passion fruit for lunch and chilli & cauli rice with cumin seeds tonight. I hope I dont get hungry tonight as I at evening meal at 5.30pm. I did manage an hours gym workout before breakfast and work, I was so keen to start my new diet I was happy to get up sharp.
I have to say that the cauli rice was great! I plan to use this with veg such as mushrooms, onion & peppers through it like I make cous cous. Even my husband enjoyed it. Must try harder to keep to 800 cals, but I didn’t think it excessive what I’ve eaten.
I hope you are enjoying your first day. -
Salty Stan, are you drinking enough fluids? Big glass of water before every meal helps fill you up. Green/mint tea is nice in this horrible cold weather. Also, are you getting enough protein? Hang in there, it gets easier!

on 8 Feb 2016 at 17:59 in Welcome to the BSDMy husband is the main reason we started the BSD 4 weeks ago, he is Type 2 on Metformin and insulin; the results are amazing he has lost 15lbs and his waist has gone from 43″ to 37″ and he looks great. I have been following the diet in support as I need to lose weight and get some inches off my waist; at 70 and 5′ 2″” I started at 147lbs and am now 139 with a 6″ loss from waist. We are both doing HIT excersises and trying to walk everyday but my problem is I feel so tired, is the 800 calories a day enough for me as my blood sugar is normal?
Both love the recipes and have had no problems with cravings, struggling a bit with alcohol after having had a Dry January we feel we now need a reward, but persevering. Well done to everybody, Dr Moseley is a star!! -
Hello, just joined the forum.
I have been dieting for 3 months (2 weeks on the 8 week diet) and have lost 2 stone (13st 8lbs to 11st 8 lbs). My wife thinks I am looking like one of those POW’s from the last century but I was a keen squash player 30 years ago and my weight was steady for at least a decade at 10st 8 lbs. So, I reason I can probably lose a bit more….
I am finding the diet tough and regularly feel hungry but I’m determined to try and avoid medications. I have already cut back my blood pressure tablets as my BP has fallen 10-15% in this period.
My comment on the threads to date is that weight loss on a low carb diet may not result in lower blood sugars for everyone (mine have not budged in the last 3 months and have even gone up slightly at times before coming down again). I’m hoping that 8 weeks will sort it! -
posted by Naa on Does it really work even if you are stressed at work?
on 8 Feb 2016 at 17:33 in Welcome to the BSDI have just finished reading the book and have decided to do the BSD 800. I have eased in gently by going no carb in the last two days but calorie more 1200 than 800. I am going to start 800 tomorrow. I have a very stressed job and that has been the cause of my increased weight, I am told. Will this diet work even though I will not have reduced the stress in the immediate term? I am working on the stress too but more difficult to be practical with that goal!
Please share your thoughts/ideas! -
Day 1 weight 90.3kg cannot stop thinking about food. I have eaten 822cal today according to myfitness app.
-
Hello I have just started today and met the same problem. I’m going to believe the app for the first week and see how it goes. Day 1 was hard by the way
-
Just popping in to record end of first weeks weight loss, exactly one stone yaaaay, I’m so happy

I’m not vegetarian, though our family eats meat max every second night, which has resulted in me really expanding my recipe repertoire. We use legumes often, really the key to stop them being boring is explore the cuisines of cultures who use them a lot, and those cuisines tend to rely on spice for flavour. Indian and Moroccan recipes would probably be a good start. I make dhal almost every week (red lentils are a staple in our pantry) and Jamie Oliver has a great veggie chilli recipe online which I make all the time (it has red kidney beans). I’ve just bought a new Moroccan recipe book full of vegetarian recipes and I’m looking forward to trying some out! Another option is to use paneer when making curries – we do that sometimes. And pan fried haloumi is wonderful!
I think our household could pretty easily cut out meat if we wanted and still not rely on meat replacement products. -
Well done Meggy. My first weigh in this morning and I’d lost 5lb in a week. Really pleased and feeling positive and like you….healthier 🙂
-
Hi all…well that went well…first weigh in this morning and lost 7lbs. Must be doing it right. I have found it quite easy as I am not a big eater. My issue is staying away from sweet things. I feel much healthier and also sleeping better. My issue is sitting in the evening watching TV and my hands are looking to fill my mouth with a bag of sweeties or a bar of chocolate…..eeeehhhh.., anybody any suggestions how to break this habit. I have been keeping a small portion of almonds handy and that seems to be working.. Look forward to my 2nd week….good luck everyone else..

Hmmmmm bit naughty then that it is referred to in the book

Hi Ddraig
I have also commenced the plan today, loving the fact that results can be seen so quickly as I have struggled to lose weight since having children.
I weighed in today at 212lbs 😔😔 but have a mini goal of the beginning of May to spur me on, going to centre parcs with some girlfriends and want to have lost a couple of stone by then.Perhaps we could spur each other along?

Hi,
I’d go with the book. The recipes are all from Dr Sarah Schenker & I cannot believe the book would have gone to print if she was not confident that the information was accurate (I’m in the book trade) & I bet there is some small print somewhere on the My Fitness Site which says they are not 100% accurate – though i could be wrong. I’m justing going with a notebook and Pacer rather than My Fitness as I found it a bit of a chore.
-
Hi all,
It’s not yet available on the website. It’s in the pipeline but, as yet, there is no timescale I’m afraid. If you want to record things manually in the meantime, make sure you keep, at least, waist size, fasting blood glucose and weight.
-
I completely agree. I have turned a little evangelical about the book (boring my friends and family silly) which is i am sure not quite the reaction Michael wants. They are hugely supportive but a little cynical and do argue with the science – latest eye brow raised was about weighing myself daily. I have been stuck on same weight for a week so it is a bit disappointing but I am sure my hectic working week will start things off again.

Hi
I have started the BSD today full of motivation and have been logging all ingredients in my fitness pal. I am confused though as the app shows the meals at higher calorie content than the recipes in the book? I am following everything to the letter.Do I ignore mfp and just go by the book do you think?
Thanks
Chloe

Hi there,
I would say if there is an option to do it every day then there is an option to do it 5 days a week. I am no expert but I did Fast Diet a couple of years back before pregnancy derailed me and i would often Fast on 3 days, even 4. I am about to finish a week off and I can testify that for me personally, this week has been tough but if you have time & money to get out to distract yourself then I suspect other people wouldn’t find it as hard as me.
Why not try it and see how you get on?
I can say that I lost 7lb really quickly in the first few days (plateaued since :() so if you are well prepared and keen to crack on with it, its worth a try??? You could always reduce the 80 cal days if you need a break mid week?
-
Your doing the right thing by following the plan. Most people are too scared to see a doctor and to be honest. We have just been told the wrong health info for so long its hard to re educate ourselves.

Hi all,
T2, diagnosed 4 years ago
I’m in week three of the Newcastle diet; I can honestly say the results have been better than expected.
Two weeks ago I was 102.6KG with Ave BS of 9.7. Yesterday 96.7KG with Ave BS of 4.5!I’m on metformin 3×850 mg, pioglitazone 30mg x1, and Victoza 1.2ml. I have already dropped the pioglitazone, and reduced the metformin, hopefully the Victoza is next.
Hunger pains no longer bother me, on wards and upwards !

Hello, I’ve just joined the BSD today. I’ve read the book over the weekend and planned my menu for this week and really hope it works!!! My tummy is rumbly. Is this normal? I’m not hungry…just had lunch.
-
Hi all
Just started on the 800 today – too soon for any feedback. My question is regarding the 5:2.
Is there a problem in changing it to a 2:5?Reason being is that I know I will struggle on a weekend on the 800 plan, and I won’t want to break away, so wonder if I adopt a 2:5, then I will feel as if I am keeping to the plan.
Any thoughts?
Also – can anyone direct me towards the area where you can log personal progress data – its mentioned in the book, but cannot find anything on the site.
Thanks

There is a ‘contact us’ at the bottom of the page – maybe worth emailing??

Hi there,
46″ when i measured on day 1 – so too scared to see a doctor but suspect I am prediabetic at least.
I lost 2 inches very quickly but have slowed – dont let that put you off. I have had a week off and have been quite sedentary and lapsed a couple of times….but I have made some juices and soup to start me back on track. Watch this space & good luck!! -

on 8 Feb 2016 at 13:23 in Welcome to the BSDDiagnosed T2 Diabetic last week and started the blood sugar diet straight away. A week later I am really pleased that I have lost 5lbs already and an inch from my waist! Have done several exercise classes and more walking too. I had been feeling unwell for a while and was a surprised to find I had high BP and Thyroid problems as well. The diet has been a really positive move for me and has kick-started my motivation to take control of myself and my own weight.

Hi i would like to start and say I havent got diabetes but after reading the book I thought i had better start doing something now to look after myself. when i measured my waist and it said 39 inches i was shocked I didnt think it was that bad. Plus feeling tired most of the time plus being in my late 40’s if I dont help myself then who will. Good luck to everyone doing this plan.

on 8 Feb 2016 at 12:52 in Welcome to the BSDIts day one for me , the object is to lose at least 12lbs and hope most of that comes from the fat around my middle. I don’t have diabetes but don’t want it but my midriff fat is far too high. So hoping to lose 3-4 inches there and with my scales you get a measure of visceral fat (11.5 today), target has to be 8.5 . Like Bill its all about not counting calories but following recipes. I have done hairy bikers diet and lost 25lbs but have now 10lbs back again. So hope BSD pushes it down quickly as my diet isn’t bad except at Christmas.

Me too – searched everywhere!
-
Well i am pleased it not just me who cant find it anywhere. Going to keep looking tho I will post if I find it.
-
Hi Hopeful, it is a bit “gritty” but tastes really lovely. You can just about get it to stick to a slice of apple if you press it on, it won’t exactly spread like peanut butter, though. I think I might try processing it for a bit longer next time.
-
Brilliant stuff people and a real inspiration. 5 days in I have lost 7lbs so I’m really happy
-
Yes me too, first day on the diet and wanted to keep the data safe.
-
So agree with the above, prepared veg are never as goods doing your own…

on 8 Feb 2016 at 11:44 in Welcome to the BSDI would imagine it’s because different calorie counters have different values. Personally, I don’t count calories, I just follow the recipes and it seems to work well for me, as it sems to be for you and the hubby, well done and keep it up.
-
Hedds that’s brilliant and a shining light for everyone else to look up to. Well done.
-
I’d not buy the pre prepared stuff as its considerably higher in price. Fine if you have the cash but we are on an economy drive. I find making all of the above simple & quick EXCEPT squash which I often switch out for sweet potato. I’d rather treat myself to a juice out as cleaning a juicer is such a chore!

on 8 Feb 2016 at 11:07 in Welcome to the BSDHi myself and my husband have been on the blood sugar diet for a week now and we’ve both lost a good amount of weight, I’ve lost 6lb and my husband has lost 8lb. However I would question the calorific values shown on most of the meals, as when we put the ingredients into a calorie counting app that we use, it always seems to give a higher amount of calories. I was just wondering how this can be?
-
There really is no need to buy another gadget as Tesco and M&S now sell spiralised veg. Courgette, butternut squash and carrots. They also do very fine vegetable rice (base for gravy and soup) and cauliflower rice/couscous. Preparing cauliflower rice in a food processor is very messy! The pots are about £1 each and they hold quite a lot.
-
Well done Hopeful 🙂 yes, I’m the diabetic, I’m taking insulin but I’m hoping I can get off the insulin – weight gain roundabout :/ I was 9st when I was diagnosed and I’m now 13 🙁
My partner works in a busy hotel, I’m hopeful I can get him interested in the recipes and off his “crowd cooking” way of thinking and portion sizes. -
yes I have been looking too?

Wow Bill, 7lbs in 4 days is brilliant. Great news on the blood sugar readings as well.
My blood sugar reading today is the lowest ever since starting the diet 3 weeks ago 4.5. Four weeks ago I had blood taken and they checked my HbAc1 level which at the time I found out today was 48 so four weeks ago I was officially a diabetic. I saw the doctor who said he would repeat the test in two weeks after the start of the diet, I told him about the book at the first appointment. I got the results today and they are now 40. The doctor was amazed and asked me to email him the link to the website. He told me to book in around July for a follow up test just to make sure. But he declared me no longer a diabetic, especially after I showed him my fasting blood glucose levels for the past three weeks.
This does work!
Good luck everyone
