Well good to read that others have been challenged and then have picked up the challenge again. I am feeling fairly positive. I am down 1.6 kilos so whilst much of it may be water I feel lighter. I think my issue is that I tend not to formally count calories. I sorta of work it out but this morning thought I need to be mindful of exactly what it is I am consuming. I am on school holidays and whilst my position requires meetings and catch up jobs I am so grateful not to have to move out of bed at 6 am….I think will start planning recipes this am!

    Hi,
I just pan fried it dry,
When it was crispy, I plated it up and served with slices of lemon and a little Mayo. And a huge crispy salad.
It’s not quite the same but was crunchy as I dry fired it,
I didn’t want it oily nor soggy.

Hi there. I am on day 12 have lost 15 lbs but I do or had 104 pounds to loose, I’m loving the eating plan, felt marvellous not hungry, and even when I’m at target, I won’t go back to carbs and sugar again, as loving feeling so well.
Great to get excited about starting, plan it then eat it. So you don’t go over. Any queries there’s always someone around.

    Great stuff

It’s rubbish finding out all this stuff I’ve tried metformin and glucobay but it just made me feel more poorly as was fainting on a daily basis 😭
I’ve got my fitness pal all set and ready to go tomorrow, can’t wait! I’ll keep you posted on progress! How have you done with this?

Lucia – you didn’t say how you got on with the non floured whitebait. Interested to know if it worked when you fried it, and if you used coconut flour instead?

Well done all of you – there are lots of stellar examples on this forum.

KBoo – join me on another round of the BSD800. I have had a rotten week or so and reckon that the extra kilo and a half is not water retention but consumption of extra carbs. I’ve been eating too much. Just inputting tomorrow’s meals into mfp now so I know what calories I have left over and cannot kid myself if I want to binge (am a past mistress in the art of telling myself it’s not much, just a mouthful or so!). I’ll check in tomorrow and trust you to join me on the wagon way!

That settles it then. We need a chickpea cake to complete the trinity. The cookie, the cake and the pastry crust. Amen.

I know, I’m ready to go too… just hope France don’t score or we’ll have pens to sit through as well.

Yes, good luck for tomorrow Tokyo! Hopefully your colleagues will be amazed by how much weight you’ve lost since you’ve been away. And well done on sorting all your meals out too.

I must advise that no chickpea was harmed in the making of my cake. Although I did finally break out the COCONUT flour instead of almond. I think the bread uses coconut flour too..

Just want to football to finish now. It’s been on forever! I need me bed!

    Hi Charlp87

Welcome to the forum, and Bril that you start tomorrow, I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis of PCOS, but I can assure you as you will have seen from reading on this forum, this way of eating, helps you to feel seriously well, and I am sure a week from today you will be feeling a bit more positive, and weight loss always helps us cope with things better doesn’t it.
Not sure what you mean by macros, but eat what the book tells you you can, count everything cals up to 800 and carbs up to 50 I count both some people don’t. You can download myfitnesspal app which gives you cals and carbs.
So keep us posted, need any help just shout there’s always someone online to assist

Omg Epspecially, I’ve never heard that saying before! Stealing that one!

The tension is high in the living room. Little one is on the edge of his seat, I don’t know what he thinks he’s going to win if Portugal win it, probably only be a box of sodding raisins or something. It’s bloody boiling in this room too, I’m sweating like Elvis in a greenhouse, and I can’t open the window as it’s gale force and raining πŸ™

No, it’s been a quiet one tonight Tokyo, bit of a flat meh day all round I think what with back pain and hangovers etc. Well done on resisting the chocolate. Is it going to be a chickpea cake??? We haven’t exhausted the chickpea yet, surely? You and Epspecially have done the cookies, I’ve done the pastry, Janey, was your cake chickpea??? I can’t remember. Good luck tomorrow, will be thinking of you and missing your interaction. What will I do without my daily dose of Tokyo??? I’ll tell you what I’ll do. Some bloody housework for once!! πŸ˜‰ haha

    Hi Switzerland and Linda A

Thanks for your encouragement. I’m sorry to say that today was another failure – my husband made french toast for lunch which both children were turning their noses up at…. I was drafted in to demonstrate how lovely it was (actually, it was rather burnt, yet soggy at the same time, but I was still required to scoff it all up and declare it was yummy!). I also needed to eat the french toast to encourage my husband to approach the cooker more often!!! It was an impossible situation!

My second failure was a chocolate fountain that my husband “had” to test for work. We used fruit on cocktail sticks, but pretty soon we were all covered in the stuff. At first, I restrained, but seeing as I’d already had french toast and my husband only ever enters the kitchen once a year, I was soon elbowing the children out of the way to get at it.

Ho hum. Maybe tomorrow. On the plus side, my throat is healing up nicely and I didn’t need to chain-eat the choc ices today.

Lucia, your antics in the gym and the garden are very inspiring!

Thanks, all of you – I hope you all have a good day tomorrow,

I think you should stop smoking while on the BSD.
Get a copy of Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking: Revised Edition, read it & then stop smoking.

    Why?

Because so many who stop smoking go onto have problems with their weight. If you’re tackling the weight now with a clear structured eating style when you stop smoking you’ll be less likely to head down the road of excess eating and bad habits or fall off the healthly eating wagon. The mindfullness you are doing now for the BSD will also help you after you stop smoking.

Yup I am an ex-smoker who read Allen Carr’s book after I stopped smoking and wished I had read his book first. It took me a long time to come to the same concolusions as Allen Carr and just stop. Food then came my next addiction. Had I stopped smoking & followed a way of eating like the BSD I know I would not have put on so much weight. Weight that I now need to loose 6 years later!

At least get the book…you have nothing to loose!

I’m ok with most insects, but slugs and snails are my fear. I once lived in an awful rented place and I’d wake up in the morning and my sofa, carpets etc would be covered in trails. Made the error of getting up for a glass of water in the early hours and I saw them in my kitchen on the floor, and without sounding crude, they were like huge poos on the floor, I have never seen anything like it in my life, mutant slugs. I went to take a bin bag out this morning, lifted the lid up, two slugs fell out at my feet. I screeched and took the bag back in. If someone steps on a snail it makes me physically sick.

Yes, that sounds nice and do-able. I wish I could bring myself to try the cheese, I’ve been seeing it a lot in cookery mags and it looks nice, all golden and crispy on the outside, but I just don’t think I can bring myself to.

Good that it’s gone though, so you don’t have another slice tomorrow. Slippery slopes and all that!

You could always adapt my quinoa salad (not cous cous, that was a hangover induced typo) and replace the squeaky cheese with chorizo! Yes! That’d definitely work! I’ve had the cake but left the Willie off. Best not to have too much of a good thing πŸ˜† My boy has now decided he DOES like the cake so I lost the final piece.

Don’t be disheartened, plateaux are common on the BSD and they seem to happen at any time. Just check your carb intake isn’t too high, that you have enough fat in your menu and are drinking plenty. It will come right, so stick with it and I’m sure you will be seeing positive results again soon.

Me too Janey, although I’d have had to have been a very young mum. Did you see that moth land on his face? My kids were in stitches. I think he’s very pleasing on the eye, but his Adam’s apple makes me cringe a bit. That would be a deal breaker for me.

Ah I forgot to tell you, I don’t think I’d be able to try squeaky cheese because it’s different milks isn’t it? And I’m a bit… nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh about that. Which is silly, I know, when I eat things made from cow’s milk, which should be no less odd than eating things made from any other animal’s milk… but I just can’t bring myself to #weirdo

I went to pound land. To the middle aisle at the back.

    I found.
    Hoola hoops
    Skipping ropes,
    Plastic bats and balls
    Skittles for in the garden
    All sorts of gentle activities.
    For a quid.
    So why don’t you?
If anyone asks, you are buying them for the kids.
    Get them home,
Go into the garden…. In the yard, carefully in the house or in the park etc…..
    Have fun.

I also found water pistols, water bombs etc.
I dare my neighbour to pass comment about me washing the car again, it will be WAR,,!!

Hiya girlies and guys! So I’m desperate to stet this tomorrow. I’m probably at my lowest in terms of mind and confidence I used to be a teeny size 6 an now squeezing myself into a 12 so although not massive it’s a big difference for me. Have been diagnosed with pcos, insulin resistance and pre diabetes.
So I’ve read the book but am going to go with my own food as it will work out cheaper to keep it simple. Do I need to follow any macros or just simply meats, veg, salad, yog and a teeny bit of fruit as long as I’m under 800cals?
Thanks in advance and help is appreciated x

Hello Epspecially πŸ™‚ Lol, extensive meaning… rambly? πŸ˜‰

Soup sounds lovely, I love a bit of chorizo. Nothing like a nice spicy sausage… Ah did you make Tokyo’s chickpea biscuits? I think they’re going to be trial and error with the sugar and chocolate bits to get the right balance of sweetness, isn’t it? As long as it overwhelms the ‘chickpeaness’ of them. It’s not a bad taste, but it’s more savoury than sweet. Cheap enough to practice with though, I suppose, compared to almond flour anyway!

I’m supporting Portugal too, mainly because of Ronaldo, because I am a United fan and he’s a legend. Feel so sorry for him, he must have really hurt himself to ask to come off. Walk on the spot and shout at the telly πŸ™‚ You’re welcome. Full of use(less)ful ideas, me!

Just watching the match here after chicken curry and trusty cauliflower rice! Made the chorizo and pepper soup from the book earlier earlier, with beans instead of the chick peas as didn’t have any. Also some dark chocolate and one of those chickpea biscuits this eve – cut back on the sugar in them so now they don’t really taste of much, still tasty enough tho.
hope Portugal win!! trying to shake myself up for a walk but shouting at the telly might have to do 😜

Ha, are you sure about that, Janey? πŸ˜‰

What’s everyone up to tonight, then? I’m reading one of the seventeen thousand books I have lined up ready on my Kindle, while the footy is on in the background. I think it has certainly helped but the journey started long before then. I always wanted to write as a child for example and just stopped as a young adult on the assumption there was no point and I didn’t have time. I didn’t paint because I assumed I wouldn’t paint anything worth having… I can blame my art teacher 30 years ago for that one. I’ve always been creative in the practical sense working out ways to fix things etc.

Really when my husband became so ill with his depression I didn’t recognise him and it was so bad I had told him our marriage was about to end I realised that I was juggling all of our joint responsibilities. His depression had caused him to check out a while before. All I did was work and kids, work and kids and all that did really was make him worse and make me ill too. That was the turning point, a time when I stood up and demanded that I could and should take back time for me. I wrote my first novel in a haze of depression but it helped me survive it – my own little world where I had control over what happened.

Couple that with coming to that place in my life where I don’t fear failing at something. If no one likes my painting who cares – I like doing it. If I never sell a book who cares – I’ve enjoyed writing and people I love have enjoyed reading.

It’s been a long walk back to health for me and I don’t dismiss the part BSD has played but it isn’t all that has contributed. I’m also aware that whilst increasingly I do feel better it also doesn’t take much to knock me down. I am inching ever closer to health but I’m still not quite there.

    In other news… I ate a chocolate muffin…

    confession complete!

all other food as planned, chicken salad and home made salsa any minute and tomorrow back to 800!

Glad you’re feeling better Janey. I’m thinking long and hard as to whether to ‘risk’ drinking in the foreseeable. I thought the cake looked fab. I’m finding things very sweet all of a sudden, I had a couple of almonds before and they were really sweet, something I’d never noticed before. If I’m baking in future with that coconut stuff I’m going to use much less than the recipe calls for.

I really enjoyed my tea, against my expectations. I made sure I had all the tastes of the burger on my plate, the salad, gherkins, mayonnaise, and I ate it, very slowly with a knife and fork, cutting the burger into the smallest of pieces. Felt like I’d eaten a huge meal. If it had been on a barmcake, it’d have been gone in five bites!

    Good afternoon everyone.
Today has been an interesting day, weigh in this morning. Hubby has lost 11.4 llbs and myself 8 llbs. We are pretty happy with the result and are enjoying trying new foods and recipes. My husband is T2 and has been taking his sugars am and 2 hrs after dinner every day, his levels have dropped to 4.2 he usually takes 2 x 1000 mg prolonged release metformin hydrochloride every evening, he has decided to drop 1 of the tablets from tonight and see what happens to his readings. We are feeling great, more energized, less bloated and thinner. Had to get the hubby 2 new suits today as the old ones looked massive, he only wants to loose another 1/2 stone, but he is desperate to get off the tablets. I have a little more to loose but found a smaller pair of jeans that now fit, and clothes are generally feeling a bit looser. Gonna be a tough week ahead its our sons graduation on wednesday so we are off out for a celebration meal, then off in the camper for a few days to catch up with old friends.
Even though i havent lost as much weight as my husband , yet !, I am determined to keep going and get to a point where I am happy with what I see in the mirror .
Stir fry and salmon steak tonight….yum xxx
    Stay strong out there

By BSD standards it was great πŸ˜‹ The hordes complained it had no sugar in it (it had coconut milk, strawberries AND dates in it.. How much do they need?!) but for me, and my friend’s hubby who likes plain chocolate it was fine! I glazed the berries in top with a teeny bit of coconut oil and a spoonful of the raw honey I bought. Just as good as jelly! Next time I would add a bit more baking powder for a better rise and try to find a ‘cream’ to go on top of the base and under the fruit.

After reading your post I had the same brunch, so easy, and lovely. Looking forward to when I am at target and can have a slice of rye bread to mop up the luscious remainder of the sauce, but our dog Lady Lucy much appreciated it, lots of tail wagging, must admit though because I hadn’t eaten for 14 hours, it made me feel quite unwell for half an hour after I ate it. But yes one for the do again list. I used full fat c.fraiche, and mine was 324 cals and 5.4 carbs, so all good. Hope you have a super day.

Hi Thanks for your post. I will try and post each day and hopefully not negative. Wednesday will be hard but Geoff and I are going out to lunch during the day where we can remember Paul who I miss very much. Our memories are from when he was growing up and all the funny things he did. Just read about the grapes and cherries. I have had 14 grapes but no cherries. Made the soup but of course with no potatoes which was hard as I love potatoes so much. Had to have a mid afternoon snack so I had some natural yoghurt into which I put said grapes (not all of them) and some sunflower seeds and I tried some vanilla essence which I bought some years ago whilst on holiday so I think it is pure – came from one of the carribbean countries. I try and buy spices and seasonings/essences when on holiday as it is much cheaper.

I am waiting for an amazon delivery now as I ordered one the of test at home blood sugar monitors as I have no idea what mine is other than I am pre diabetic so will let you know how I get on. Don’t like the needle in skin bit though…..
    Thanks to you all.

Hey Chris AKA Eric! LOL! Very sorry to assume you were of the Y chromosome persuasion 😜😜 actually these days it’s the old President Clinton’s “don’t ask don’t tell” especially with regard to single gender bathrooms — we have gone off the deep end in the US with regard to how to decide which gender uses which bathroom (I just don’t care but many really do). But back to BSD stuff — i really do think there is something here regarding inflammation — I did a bit of reading on it and in the 1950’s a Royal Navy surgeon Thomas Cleave developed a theory that all disease was related to consumption of refined carbohydrates. –his theory was bolstered by his brother’s experience as a POW in Japan. There was a lot of research on this but researchers didn’t separate out the refined/sugar part of the carbohydrates and so the focus ended up going toward the role of animal fat (which has been hammered home to us all since the early 1980’s). Meanwhile people like you and me are seeing results on low carb diets. Oh also, they treat epilepsy in children with low carb diets. I hope more research comes out soon. It is practically criminal to encourage 8-11 servings of bread/ grains per day (US food pyramid).

I have taken advice from the effects of last night’s alcohol vs lack of carbs to soak it up. The BSD body doesn’t like it. One bit. Lesson learned. On the plus side there is a small amount of the ‘cake no one likes’ left for me to have with a cuppa in a while. Life’s not all bad πŸ˜‰

I will not give up as I have seen b/g reduced from 180 / 190 to 105 this morning. Reduced insulin by 3 units but taking it slowly down, don’t want to cause a spike. All in all I am feeling good just want the scales to smile at me.

    Today’s positives.
Sunday morning working, always binged when got home. DIDNT HAPPEN woo hoo
    Relaxing now watching the tennis.
Feeling like I have possibly turned around my doom laden pre diagnosis of S.L.E. Which if that is the case it is 100% a miracle.
Also want to be greedy and add another, sitting here feeling the love and compassion coming from all you B.S.D.peeps. bless your beautiful kind minds for taking the time.

    Hi tokyo14
If you have an iPhone just download the pacer app, excellent pedometer, cheap pedometers are rather unreliable.
