    Day 186 Weight 9st 4lbs (-26lbs πŸ™‚ )
    Blood sugar: 10.2

    Had my Diabetic Checkup and 3 monthly bloods done today. Blood pressure 100/60 I think this is low but nurse said was fine.

    Been to visit Auntie at Care home she looked awful.
    Hospital think Mum has a clot on her lung as she collapsed in hospital earlier today – she is going for a CT scan to confirm later tomorrow.

    Day 187 weight 9st 5lbs
    Blood 8.6

    Auntie readmitted to hospital for IV antibiotics – it looks like she is in the same side of the hospital as Mum, but in another department further up the corridor, so will pop between the two during the visiting hour.

    Mum was stable overnight – no word about Cardiologist check or CT scan yet – both due this afternoon.

    Best wifey ever – you’re nice to him – definitely! :-)))) Hope it makes him feel better. Yes, I hear you on the mehhh things. Stuff that I stick in the freezer but then ends up seeming very exciting when discovered weeks later! Found that weird quinoa bread I made ages ago last week and ate a slice = not amazing but seemed like it at the time! Smug factor outweighing taste!!

    No on the OH sticking to it ha ha ha ha – he seemed to eat less healthilly in protest :-)))) But he works a very active job so think he uses up a lot of energy everyday. Is fit anyway. hee hee in both senses of the word ;-)) But I wouldn’t be if I ate what he eats!

    πŸ˜‰ Eps, not often, but they’re not too bad for a frozen meal! I love the Chicken Saag curry, really tasty sauce and plenty of spinach in there. Funny you should say that about the robot in the kitchen. I can’t wait until Saturday to cook something with this sodding flour now, so I am attempting *drumroll* – bread rolls! The Hemsley ones Part 2 with ground as opposed to whole flaxseed made me retch – although the Elana bread is ok. But after a couple of loaves of it, it is just that – ok. This is where I’d put in a ‘meh’ emoji if I was on my iPad. Hubby isn’t well last few days and he’s not sleeping well at night, so he’s fallen asleep on the sofa. So I thought if I could make him a bap for his burger tonight – Best. Wife. Ever. Ever ever. Fact.

    Hey, did your OH stick to it after you finally roping him into it?

    I haven’t tried that yet, no. Hubby has golf balls… not a euphemism, I will ask him when he wakes. I try doing the stretching. My niece had it and she had to have an injection in her foot and had to stay off it for 5 days. Can you imagine me not doing anything for 5 days? Jesus, I’d go crazy!

    I’m surprised at my restraint with the pizza tbh, but I’d best have it after weighing Saturday than before weighing Friday πŸ˜‰

    I bow and worship…. Your advice about it being easy to change the laptop keyboard, replacement arrived in post half an hour ago and all done, so much easier than fiddling with an external keyboard (and the fact that I kept forgetting and trying to type on the dead one). And all for a tenner!!

    BSD – I’ve been told that my local medics just won’t take it off my records at all ‘because it could recur at any time’!😱😒

    I’m hoping that another HbA1c in the normal range (already had two) will change their mind. But I’m not holding my breath,

    ha ha ha ha Lucky – glad to hear you have eaten a ready meal once or twice – I was beginning to think you were a Stepford wife robot in the kitchen with your amazing organisation skills! ;-)))))
    Good on you on getting back to preChristening weight – pre-camping is very close too!! Brilliant. I will weight myself tomorrow and start from there. As you said, it’s all about getting back to what worked if needed.

    Mind that heel. Sounds auch. Did I say already that rolling the arch of your foot on a golf ball worked well for that I seem to remember reading? Though maybe not when it’s actually painful? Worth a short try and stop if it not helping!! πŸ™‚

    Looking forward to pizza talk soon. (Not something I crave so you can tell me how delicious it was without any fear!!;-)))

    Eps! Our little ray of sunshine is back! Yes, I know, going to order the two dresses soon and send one back. Had a code with 10% off and free delivery today so – sorted! Hubby tried on his suit today in Greenwoods but he’s going to wait too for another fortnight before buying anything. He’s 16 stone 1 now and his waist is shrinking so quickly, so it makes sense to buy it as late as possible!
    Awww I don’t think any of us will ever eat the same again. Some things stick with us. For example, when we were ‘told’ in WW what a portion of pasta and rice was dried weight, I actually weighed what I was eating, and I was eating double the amount lol. So up to starting BSD when I weighed pasta for example, I used their 60g portion, it just kind of stuck? I don’t think the occasional piece of toast is going to shove two stone on you, but these things need to be the exception rather than the rule don’t they? I’m currently relosing the same kilo over and over haha, down to pre-christening weight, but a kilo away from pre-camping weight which was what, two weeks ago now? Grrrr! But I’ll do it and then it’s completely new territory for me. Two kilos from now I’ll be 14 stone something.

    No, I didn’t Bean. I have eaten a few of their ready meals though – nobody judge me here please. I don’t eat ready meals as a rule, but from what I can see, they are as good as making it yourself and have the recipe on the back, and some (not all) are quite nice. Low-ish calorie and reasonable carbs. I like that a lot of them are just a curry etc, without any pasta or rice in them. They’ve been a godsend at times, I won’t lie and one does both hubby and I with extra veg. But no, the thought of eating loads and loads now of anything, protein or carb, makes me feel quite ill. Good luck for tomorrow, is it?

    Yowzer – the original intention was to do it for another 8 weeks as I’ve still got so much more to lose but I just can’t, not devoutly anyway. The warning signs were there that the joy was starting to be sucked out of it and the weightloss wasn’t going to be worth the hassle, this happens to me on every plan at some times. I’d rather lose a pound a week and feel happy and satisfied than lose three pounds a week and feel frazzled and deprived of something. Some days I wake up and I could eat my arm and as I like a decent (but now much smaller!) tea, it meant that a lot of the time something had to give. I think we have to just keep re-assessing this on a weekly basis once we’ve hit the 8 weeks. Janey does the same thing daily, some do 5:2, and we can always pull it back in by doing a week or 2 weeks of BSD800 if we feel the waistbands tightening. But if we don’t go daft, the worst that can happen is that weight loss slows, I doubt it would grind to a halt completely. As I keep saying, this has taken me 25 years to accumulate and I’m already 30lbs down 11 weeks in. Not a bad start anyway. Better than I’d have had on any other slimming plan πŸ™‚

    I’ve bought my spelt flour from Aldi… I am making pizza on Saturday night… I bet you’re all praying it works so I finally shut up about pizza! Haha.

    Re medical background, we also have medical expertise in the family as well as an inclination to explore medical information on our own to check what we are told.

    There is considerable research on the subject of reversal of diabetes as well as that quoted by Dr Mosley regarding Professor Roy Taylor’s programme at Newcastle.

    I am sure that your relatives are very capable – as indeed are you – in exploring this. Many of the people on this forum have done the same.

    Individuals do have individual results, but you have a plethora of examples of success here that your relatives can also review. I suggest you and they explore via the SEARCH (top right) the various posts.

    BSD – if you don’t want to go, just cancel the appointment – they can’t force you to do it.
    I’m planning to continue the annual GP Nurse visits & HBa1c checks, just to make sure blood results all stay in the right ranges.
    I’m not sure about the eye tests, although TBH, I’d been having the photographs that they do at the diabetic eye test done at my annual ‘normal eye test’ anyway, so saves the Β£25 that that was costing, my optician doesn’t bother now that he knows they’re being done elsewhere.

    Jan, it ought to be too hot here (North Wales) but the heatwave hasn’t got here and it’s just grey and bleurgh. I take hummus salad to work most days but off today so indulging in some healthy cooking – take that, Paul Hollywood!

    I am proof it works, just stick with it, ignore what anyone says (especially doctors – they are so out of touch)and even if the weight doesn’t come off as fast straight away, stay with it. Just think its 8 weeks of your life, you have nothing to lose only the weight. I promise it will be all worth it and it will change you forever (it has me). I eat porridge and quite a bit adding honey/berries, just get the best quality. Maintaining, I’m in my 4th month and go up and down a few pounds, but stay around 10 stone. I do 1 day 500 calories (which is a killer), I don’t count any other day, but as I have been doing this since Feb I know how much roughly is in what. I have days occasionally of pasta or sour dough bread, so I haven’t banned everything for ever, but its about keeping treats as treats. I still use all the recipes in the BSD & 5:2 and just been adding to my own list, I am still experimenting and my taste buds have changed forever.

    Congratulations, Peter!

    Fantastic stuff – I know what you mean about ‘becoming a bore’, I don’t set out to mention the BSD but there are so many people who say things to me like ‘I’ve lost a lot of weight, but it’s the last stone/half a stone which defeats me’/I feel much fitter, but I’ve put some weight on round my middle and can’t shift it/I wish I could fit into size x clothes but….’ and then I find without even trying I start to say ‘well, you can do this if you want to, there’s no compulsion, but I can tell you how to do that’.

    And then of course there are the people who don’t need the diet themselves, but compliment you on how you’re looking and you tell them why, and it’s their OH, Mum, Dad, Sister, friend that they’re worried about.

    My stepson yesterday was asking me whether BSD had been translated into Russian as he’d been telling a friend about our success (I think she’d only asked how we were!) and she wanted to buy the book for her mother who IS Russian.

    But when you find something so wonderful, you do want to share, don’t you.

    I do hope your reviewing of your medications works out for you, and you get your blood pressure sorted. Your doctor must be well impressed with your recovered health and weight loss. Very inspirational, thank you for sharing πŸ™‚

    Re GBBO – I did watch it last night (day 10 of bsd800) and do you know what? I didn’t enjoy it at all! I wasn’t envious, just bored! One contestant used almond flour, but orherwise it was an unappealing starchfest!
    I’m currently sitting here with a big bowl of veggie casserole that ‘cost’ me less than a jaffa cake in calories *smug face*

    I thought May was going to be my last post having been given the all clear by one of the doctors at the surgery.

    But Oh NO they just can’t let go of you and face the facts you have proved them wrong.

    So first of all my weight is still in check and in fact have lost a grand total of 3 stone, I check my blood sugar levels every so often (for piece of mind) and all in the Normal range.

    So out of the blue they send me for a diabetic eye test!!! Now I find the Expert on Diabetes won’t take it off my record until I do another 2 tests (nice to be told) & informs me he has only taken 2 people in his whole long career off the Diabetic register. So I would be rare case – MAD AS HELL.

    They haven’t got a clue, just don’t listen to the Doctors, they are so out of touch, he hasn’t even read the book – EXPERT!!

    LUCKY I think what you say makes lots of sense ..i am grateful for yr observations on Post 8 weeks ,and JANs and EPS too. Different perspectives, they will help me to decide which way to go when my eight weeks is up early September. Its good we have choices! And that we are away from the WW and SW tyranny for ever! i found SW such a swizz,telling me i could eat as much carbs as i wanted,then the weeks i didnt lose,telling me i either wasnt eating enough,or that i needed to decrease my portions! Erm,which one? Cant do both! Hehe! Best thing about SW for me was,on one of my many joinings, i won the raffle the first week and never went back again! So at least i got a few bob back from them..goodness knows i gave them enough over the years!
    It might work for some but i will never ever join again.
    LUCKY i hope you can get yr heel sorted..if its any consolation,mine is usually ok now,after a massive painful flare up like youre having πŸ™ just try not to be on yr feet too long even tho youre such a bizzybee..and keep using the gel insoles to protect yr feet. X

    BEAN You have done so well, imy little pal! I have known you for a good while now from the Fast Day forum and you’re an inspiration how you have got to such a low weight despite ill health limiting how much exercise you can do. Good luck with the job! You will be an asset to them! X

    I agree JAN..i wont watch Bake Off! I can resist and walk past goodies in the supermarket,often without a qualm,but watching BO is a step too far for me! Being slimmer and healthier is better than any slice of cake,scrumptipus tho it is!
    My advice to all of us cake lovers..look at cake and think ” sugar and fat” and visualise a block of lard and a packet of sugar on the plate instead of that tempting looking delight! It helps! X

    Bean, Keep going luvvy, you will get there, we will all get there, this way of eating is the future, don’t forget to measure waist etc, I noticed the weeks I plateaued I was loosing a lot of c.m.

    Verano, yes you’ve worked it out, when I got over my plateau which was due to complacency, trying to eat more etc I started also regularly walking and when I did that stuck to 50 below carbs and 800 cals, my weight loss shot up, to the point I am now hoping to continue 3-4 lbs weight loss a week, and if you are able to weigh yourself in kilos, you will may even see a daily difference which I find very inspiring.. I also write a daily diary of how the day’s been and I find that very good for looking at what went right or wrong and why.

    I need to get to target more than I need cake and piazza etc, life is short and I don’t want to shorten mine by eating c…p no matter how nice it tastes.

    Oh yes Bean the bake of programme, I made myself watch it, trying to sort of desensitise myself to c….. But have decided I’m not ready to look at things like that. Cor blimey I know how an alcoholic feels now. So the c word is a no go for me , loving being slimmer moreπŸ‘™ Well I can wish can’t I, I didn’t even look good in a bikini when I was 19. So definitely not at 58 hehe😎😎😎😎

    Great news Janet!

    You are so right you just have to stick to the plan and it does work.

    I’m struggling to get to my first stone but that’s because I’m NOT sticking to 800 calories and low enough carbs. I thought I would ease myself in gently and it has worked to a certain extent in that I no longer feel hungry or crave sweet foods etc.

    I use Fatsecret and I checked my progress this morning and whilst my carbs have come down from an average of 91 a day in July to 74 a day this month it’s still no where near low enough.

    I decided to make a concerted effort over my last five days and reading of your success just reconfirms that it only works when you stick to the plan rigidly.

    Good luck with the next 8 and I hope you reach your new goal of 16lbs … 20 would be a bonus!

    JANEY!! That’s amazing – well done you for taking the challenge! You aren’t joking when you say you’ve got loads more energy(!)
    LUCKY! Did you ever try the most up-to-date SW? That is much easier to follow and you can eat loads – but as we know, we don’t WANT to eat loads of pasta/rice etc. I love BSD and I love the fact that when I reach my goal weight I can then continue med style and throw in the odd fast. This whole experience is finally working for me – after 20+ years of ‘dieting’ Hoorah!
    Now I’ve got to go and prepare myself for my first day back at work in four years – doh!

    Oh I know what you mean GREENJANET! holidays I guess are the most difficult times aren’t they. But wow! You’ve lost so much you must feel light as a feather! (I have to say, though, that tea room? Man Alive! That sounds like heaven!)
    Brenda BRENDA427 I wish you all the best on your new adventure. You are definitely going to be embarking on the Lose Cruise(!) ready for your Real Cruise!! This is an amazing way of eating and is surprisingly easy to stick with. I’m coming to the end of week 8 and have lost around 11 pounds. Not as much as the others but I’m nearer to goal PLUS I have health issues including an underactive thyroid and weight loss throughout the many years of trying has always bean slow for me. This method is the fastest way of losing weight – but also the best because it completely changes the way you look at food. It won’t just be for 8 weeks, your new healthy low-carb way of eating will continue forever! Isn’t it exciting!!

    Wow! That really is impressive. I think maintaining is in many ways the hardest part – but you both sound as though you’ve taken it like ducks to water! Its interesting when you try and over-indulge and discover that it just doesn’t have the same appeal anymore. I’m hoping that one day I won’t crave cereal – but its still a work in progress!!

    Hi all.
    Hope you are all having a good day. Now I am day two of the beginning of week 9, and 33lbs down, I am feeling amazing, walking all day, limitless energy. Still tacking this plan seriously, have no wish to hear about eating cake etc. I’m in it for the long haul. This plan works for me because I don’t eat cake etc, I wouldn’t want to trigger of the appetite again. I am following captainlynnes excellent example she has lost 86 lbs to date by sticking to this plan, not adding extra bits, calories carbs or whatever. It may work for some but not for me. My mind isn’t trained enough yet.
    I’ve come back from life threatening symptoms, and have no wish to go back there again. Sorry to keep repeating myself, but it helps me to stay focused. Being on hol is lovely but throws up so may obstacles.πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

    Just pleased as I can be, from obese to, yesterday, day one of not overweight. P.S. not showing any signs of pre-diabeties either now.
    I managed it on one meal a day, always around 800 calories plus some exercise.
    I had trouble with my blood pressure as I was on medication and despite drinking a river each day, it plummeted.

    Changed my medication and my weight stopped dropping for 10 days but I was no longer taking water tablets, part of my blood pressure treatment, so I assume that that was the reason.
    This part was so very frustrating as I was just sat there with the weight bobbing up and down, but never dropping below the lowest to that date. I was also getting lots of suggestions from folk saying that maybe I had reached a Plato and this was my bodies way of saying, low enough.
    I was never convinced that 800 calories a day was doing this but those siren voices were !!!!

    This week I have had to go back on some additional tablets for the blood pressure, it started going up again, but still half of what I was on. I am still monitoring and still keeping my doctor work in work. It would be nice if I can manage on the lower medication but I guess time will tell.

    As I posted on Facebook, I am “Chuffed to bits” and really want to say a big thanks to Michael Mosley and the way he has brought this and the 5/2 diet to my attention. I may become a bit of a bore with this as it was, for me, so impressive.

    Welcome back Eps! Mad eh? But the Jawbone/Up has done a great job of nagging me into activity so I thought I’d give it a go!

    Sticking to the Med Diet with the occasional lapse works for me. Clothes still getting looser and appetite largely unchanged. Keep on with us old timers and we’ll keep you on the straight and narrow (most of the time!)

    hee hee caught you all!! :-)))) HIIIIII! hope you all well xxxx No excitement here, just working away and enjoying the end of the summer. Leaves looking gorgeous around here, think this is my favourite time of the year. Lucky wedding time soon! :-))

    As some of you know, made it through the 8 weeks quite happilly and lost 1 and 3/4 stone I think in the end. Since then I was doing well for a few weeks and then stuff started to creep in again! (Putting it like this makes it sound like I had nothing to do with it ha ha ha) It is true though, that the whole process makes a lot of sense, so I haven’t totally lost the plot and started gobbling rubbish, but I have had a few pieces of toast and definitely few too many pieces of dark chocolate – I’m back to being able to eat half a bar… Sometimes I think it’s just to test the boundaries ;-))) Anyway, I definitely think this is the way forward and even though I have gotten way too sick of Myfitnesspal and filling in everything, I think I might have to return to it again a bit, just to remind myself what the amount of food I can eat in a day looks like. Though if some of you have been doing it and still losing weight though not spending hours imputting stuff on Myfitnesspal maybe I could do that too – just stick to the carbs! Haven’t weighed myself in a few weeks as am scared to now – not that I think it’ll be terrible as clothes still feel more or less the same – it shouldn’t be as I have stuck to the principles I’d say 70/80% of the time… But the thought of having to relose weight again is discouraging!! Better that than have to relose the whole lot eh ;-)))

    Does the 5/2 actually work though? I don’t seem to lose weight when I go much above 1000 calories I think, even if they are allowed calories….

    Hi Nursebean – yes both OH and I are on Maintenance now.

    I am still using MFP, and I am continuing to avoid refined carbs. We were away at the weekend, and ate out, and I had no difficulties in avoiding potatoes, bread, rice etc whilst really enjoying the food (one meal was some lovely fresh whitebait – starter size was plenty ) with a tomato salad.

    OH indulged himself in some chips with a steak at one point, and had immediate indigestion (perhaps from the volume of the chips rather than the potatoes themselves!) which made him think that they weren’t worthwhile having.

    Both of us weigh every morning, and I continue to drink as much water as I can.

    So I suppose I am maintaining the principles – however I did have a bit of a moment with a carton of Oppo yesterday where I found I was not really able to stop at one portion and that certainly threw out my calories – and my carbs!

    The effect we have both had from reducing carbs to low levels has been so wonderful that I think I will try and maintain it as much as I can. But am working on how to include pulses, and other relatively carb-heavy veg, and still am not sure how many grams of carbs my body will accommodate.

    A work in progress, therefore! Off to have a set of blood tests on Friday to see what BS and Cholesterol is – haven’t been pre-diabetic or Type 2, and tests some time ago were ok, so interested to see what the levels are now.

    Aha, tracked you down! I’m well beyond 8 weeks and living the Med Style diet quite happily, with the occasional treat. Food seems so much more creative when we’ve been experimenting with new ingredients (sometimes with catastrophic results!) so I am game to continue πŸ™‚

    And you’ll never guess what? The increased energy and recent discovery of the enjoyment of walking has just led me to be crazy and sign up for the British Heart Foundation’s MyMarathon in September! I know full well I can do 26.2 miles because my Jawbone tells me I can!! And if I can raise a bit of money to put back into research then all’s good!

    Thanks for your support. Perhaps a secret supply of cheese is the answer!

    Maintain currently by doing 1 or 2 fast days depending on how good/bad I’ve been during the week. Find weighing myself everyday keeps me on top of it.

    Will obviously not do 5:2 while on this but probably return to it with hubby once we’ve completed BD.

    I rarely miss any of those things now, I’d say of them all it’s probably rice that I miss the most, and tortilla wraps, as we used a lot of those. SW and WW do work for a lot of people but I find only to an extent, and that’s from several years of experience and thousands of pounds spent. I’ve done at least 6 different versions of WW. At least. The worst one I found was the points, I would eat junk – and then either starve or cheat! What’s the point in setting yourself up to fail? No Lucky, you can’t have that pizza on this plan. End of story, non negotiable. It’s your choice, do it or don’t. Much easier. Never quite liked the SW in the past either, either loads of carbs and an ounce of meat, or three kilos of meat and a spoonful of carbs. I wanted both πŸ˜‰

    Hey, steak is a posh burger Bean, but you’re celebrating so go for it! πŸ™‚

    Frog – gurning and posing? Love it! No, it was my great nephew’s Christening last Sunday, we were away Friday to Monday. There’s no more away days now apart from the last rugby match of the season, and a wedding in Norfolk mid September.

    I did Bean, and it was lovely πŸ™‚

    Burger day here I come! Not even bothered about the lack of bap! Yayyyy πŸ™‚

    OK here’s where I am at. After banishing the biscuits and being as I thought careful yesterday with cals controlled, lots of water as it was so damned hot and a few nuts as snack I stepped cautiously on scales today to find I am exactly the same. What a bummer.
    Today I have declared hostilities and it is all out war in the Battle of the Bulge.
    Will be writing everything down. Tried MPF and FatSecret but spent so long trying to make them do what I wanted that I have resorted to pen and paper. On FatSecret I wanted 5grams of butter but it kept showing me 100 grams. Gave up.
    Hopefully scales will show some progress downward tomorrow.

    Oh you’re in maintenance mode are you IGORASUSUAL?! What method are you using to help maintain the wonderful weight loss you’ve achieved?! This is an issue that a lot of us are unsure of. We can’t do BSD forever – but what happens at the end? Just keep low carb and up the cals? I’m looking into going wheat free as cutting it out seems to produce great health benefits!

    Thanks LUCKY! You are so right, of course! There’s no such thing as CAN’T give up carbs – but WON’T plays a big part. If only people would understand that it doesn’t take long before you just don’t fancy any of the above things, do you! That’s the best part of going low carb I think
    I know what you mean about WW and SW. I’ve bean with SW for over a year now and my weekly weigh-ins were very slow. Recently, however, doing this way of eating I have lost 11 pounds in just under 8 weeks – that’s incredible for me!! At SW if somebody hasn’t had a good loss they are always advised they are not eating enough(!!) something I’ve never understood – AND you can eat as much pasta/rice/potatoes as you like! Really?! Mind you, it DOES seem to work for a lot of people – but the weight is dropping off me since I’ve cut them out! I can’t really advise anyone at SW though – doh! πŸ˜‰
    I bet you are feeling good LUCKY being at your lowest weight in years – its such a fab feeling isn’t it!!
    D’you know what? I think I’ll join you in a little steak today – why not? It is burger day after all πŸ˜‰

    Have a look at the website below which will tell you how many calories you need to maintain your weight (may be lower than you think, mine was) and then build your BSD round that as Nursebean suggests.
