Oh thank you Esnecca, that’s good to know. I’ve never tried them so I think I would have been disapointed without your advice about soaking them. I will still try them but at least I know what I’m expecting now.
Are there any other low carb noodleish options out there that you know of? Thanks.

Hi gokiniruth, a quick tip about kelp noodles. They are very crunchy fresh out of the bag and a lot of people find the texture unpleasant, more like plastic than noodles. They can’t be twirled and basically can only be eaten if you break them into small pieces. Cooking them does not alter this texture. After long trial and error, I found the best way to prepare kelp noodles is to relax them before adding them to your dish. This softens them and makes them a perfectly neutral noodle, like a glass or rice noodle.

Acid will do this, but takes a long time. For instance if you mix them with a dressing high in vinegar/lemon juice and let them sit for a few hours or overnight, they will soften. If you don’t have the time or inclination to plan ahead like that, the simple solution is to soak the noodles for a few minutes in a solution of warm water and baking soda. Fill a large bowl with a couple of quarts of warm water, add a heaping tablespoon of baking soda and stir until it dissolves. Add the noodles and sort of swish them around with your hand, untangling the threads a little. Let them sit until you see the rigid kinks smooth out, 3-4 minutes. Rinse and drain in a colander. Now they’re ready to add to your dish.

    Welcome to the forum!

Starvation mode is not a myth, Coco. It is successfully avoided if you keep your carbs low, and your protein moderate.
If you figure out your correct macro balance, you can continue on the Fast 800 indefinitely until you achieve your
objectives. I carried on for 10 months without a break, and another great friend of the forum did so for 14 months.
When we arrived at maintenance, we increased our calorie intake very slowly, and neither of us have in any way
done damage to our metabolism. That’s the big “IF” though…Carb levels are the key to success.

  • I actually like fasting because it is less work since I eat completely different make from my family.
I’m okay, still struggling with consistency.
My goal right now is to focus on what food really is and how genuine hunger feels. I feel like I did better when I grasp the simple truth that food is to nourish our bodies, not comfort wounded hearts or fill voids in our day.
I have a congregation picnic this Saturday, but until then I am going to focus on drinking water, reaching my daily goal of 15,000 steps, and meditating on why I am losing weight and what is behind my recent struggles.

    Hello all.
Since Saturday mid afternoon I’ve been feeling dreadful! I started the morning with an hours swim and felt great however around 4pm I felt dizzy and just wanted to lay down. By 8pm I was in bed and stayed there the rest of the evening. I’m ashamed to say at around 6.15pm I was attending a church service with my wife and had to leave as I felt like I was going to faint! I jumped in the car and headed straight to the well known burger chain drive through to get a cheeseburger and small fries. I took a small bite of the burger and just couldn’t face it without feeling really nauseous. Hence to say neither burger or fries were consumed. I guess I was thinking I needed a carb/ sugar hit to alleviate the symptoms as I was desperately trying not to wipe out the weekend.
I felt ok yesterday, not 100% but able to enjoy the day. Saturday my only food intake was a few almonds as I would usually eat my main/only meal at around 7-8pm. This has been working for me for weeks without any symptoms or feelings of hunger. My fluid intake is good and I drink plenty of water.
I’ve recently bought some Maldon sea salt as I have read this is a good source of electrolytes.
I’ve also ordered some Premium C8 MCT oil as I’ve been doing a little bit of research on the benefits it can have. Has anyone had any experience of keto flu? Know of any good remedies to alleviate symptoms? Does MCT oil alleviate some of the symptoms like I have read? I have work tomorrow and am on my feet most of the day from 7.30am-6.00pm. My symptoms are lethargy, light headedness, a little achy and a little nauseous. I’m also struggling to get to sleep at the moment too. I want the energy and vigour I’ve been enjoying the past few weeks! Also advice about MCT oil would be very much appreciated. Many thanks and happy bank holiday to all that are lucky enough to be not having to work it !

    Hi gokiniruth
I don’t live in the UK, but you will find sea kelp noodles at any Korean grocery store. They are called CheonSaChae in Korean. They would be fairly cheap there. Or if you are not in an area with Asian grocery stores, try online like https://www.realfoods.co.uk/product/1408611870/kelp-noodles-raw

A Korean friend of mine is going to get me some this week as I also want to try them.

This sounds like a yummy recipe using the noodles : https://www.delicious.com.au/recipes/healthy-paleo-kelp-noodles-poached-chicken-miso

I have found inulin very helpful. Have checked the brands I use (Bioglan and Golden Greens organic) and they both contain a small amount of net carbs with the rest being fibre. I wonder if in the UK there isn’t a brand that extracts all the sugars from the fibre. Neither brand has any additional ingredients added and as the fibre content is so high and the sugars so low it is an excellent addition to the BSD way of eating.

Thanks so much Caronl. Oh that is a great term, that is my goal, for this not just to be a diet but rather to change my attitude to food in general so that is really helpful thank you.

My next question is a practical one for anyone living in the UK – I’m struggling to find kelp noodles in any shops, does anyone know a reasonably priced supplier, or have other suggestions for substitutions?

    Thanks

Hi Gokiniruth and welcome to our weekly thread. I’m glad you are enjoying the website, and don’t hesitate to ask questions, share problems and successes as you go. WOE is Way of Eating. We use the term a lot to emphasise that this is not about an 8 week diet, but a lifetime change in approach to eating. The weekly threads have a good mix of starters, in-betweeners and maintainers. Hi everyone, I’m fairly new to the Fast800. I did it for 4 weeks at the beginning of the year but unfortunately due to bereavement and a change in work situation I didn’t keep it up. However the progress I made last time gave me the desire and the confidence to start up again and this time to follow the principles for life.

I’m 33, 245 lbs, have PCOS, my father has Type 2 diabetes and my mum is prediabetic so I want to make changes for the good of my health. So I started the Fast800 on Sunday and I’m looking forward to seeing changes in my body.

These forums are fantastic, I really enjoy reading everyone’s comments and tips for the weight loss journey. Just one question, what does WOE mean? I’ve seen it written a couple of times.
    Thanks

The only thing that confuses me is the plethora of information, much of it conflicting, from seemingly similar well educated and research based Doctors.
I see many similarities between the likes of Drs Mosley, Fuhrman, McDougall, Colbert etc and generally accept what they say, but then again when your cholesterol is as high as mine, I anxiously hesitate over who is right about using eggs and olive oil as some will say go ahead whilst others will say only when you have your numbers down to normal, for example.

Oligofructose. Inulin fructans do not generate an insulin response and its fiber is not absorbed in the intestine so while it does have calories, they don’t get processed as such by our bodies. As you noted, it has been found in studies to lower blood sugar, not raise it, especially fasting BG.

I use inulin powder in several applications, but it’s pure, just the chickory root extract. Does the supplement you’re taking have a list of ingredients? Those 2.5g of carbs are confusing to me. I can’t help but suspect some kind of additive is involved. Inulin is all fiber, so the numbers for fiber and the numbers for carbs should be the same, or, if it’s the UK labeling system, the fiber should be separate and the carbs zero. This is the product I have in my pantry: https://www.lowcarbfoods.com/low-carb-staples/inulin-fiber Because we subtract fiber from carbs due to the way the US labeling system lists fiber as a subset of carbs, the net carbs are zero.

Long story short, inulin is fine, good even. Your supplement brand may be a little shady, though. When in doubt, strip back to the rawest version of the element you can get your hands on.

    Hi all.
Prior to changing to a healthy attitude towards diet, I had started to take the supplement inulin as a pre biotic and also to help with my long term insomnia. This gave good benefits and I felt it was helping. I am also aware of its benefits at lowering blood sugar levels and being an excellent source of soluble fibre. Ive stopped taking this as I’m not sure if it is classed as a fructose/sugar ? What counter productive effects it may have on my regime.?
It is described as a fructo (something) the nutrition stats say it’s composition is fairly high per 100g carb however the fibre content is also very high. Does this therefore cancel out the majority of carbs? This would make it around 2.4g carbs per 100g inulin. I’d really like to up my fibre intake and continue with the benefits of taking this but if there’s a better option and it’s classed as a sugar I will choose the better option. Thank you in advance.

Hi CocoPhoenix, lovely to read your positives on the “Positives” thread. None of us on here are medically qualified. I have not read the book,so don’t know whether it is a question of just saying “no” to some following the BSD, full stop, or just a disclaimer because of possible interaction with meds. 20 lbs is a significant amount already! and presumably ditching the junk food is beneficial all round . I think you’re right to check with your medical team; and make sure you can forge ahead!

Three positive things that happened to me this weekend are:
    1. Finding the BSD book because many of the recipes are single serve and easy to follow.
    2. The weather was beautiful both yesterday and today.
    3. I learned something important thanks to someone on another forum (related to how to do one of my hobbies better).

Hi, I’m interested in trying The 8-week Blood Sugar Diet. I bought the book yesterday after flipping through the one-serving recipes (I’m just cooking for myself so they’re great!). The book is very informative. I was all hopeful until I got to the page about those who shouldn’t do the diet. I have schizophrenia. I’m curious about how the diet would effect my condition. Why is the author against it? Is the diet known to make schizophrenics worse? If this is the case then maybe I could do a modified version such as making one of the recipes each day. (I won’t try anything stupid.)

My condition is fairly stable…I’m high functioning. However, I’m taking six meds for an assortment of things. One of them is Jardiance. I don’t want to have to take more pills. Stomach fat is a big problem for me. I’ve lost 20 lbs since my diagnosis a few months ago (I got rid of most junk food) but I’ve reached a plateau. I’m going to consult my doctor and my psychiatrist to get their opinions.

    Any info would help. Thanks!

Kafin – yes – one day at a time!! Hold that thought! And I think personally and from reading others on here, it does get easier. Old “desires” do pass, and really quite quickly. I do have lapses (of the wine variety – just much less often -and my portion of aubergine curry (thanks Birdy!) this evening might have been a bit large…) but I am not missing the old carbs at all. And just a week before I started in Jan this year, I was tucking away bread, crumpets with jam, the previously mentioned Danish pastries, mega piles of rice and the rest. After the first week, that really did pass – not willpower, just not really wanting or missing it. I am not a paragon by any means and my discard is slow and stately. Can you make yoga class a really regular feature? I am trying to imagine a blended kiwi/mexican accent….

Hi SixTurkeys – yes the yoga was good! I’m always glad after I’ve been. And you’re right, I couldn’t care less what they look like, they’re all good people and that’s enough for me. No one was looking at me and my instructor who knows what I’ve been going through, gave me lots of hugs which is so nice when you’re so isolated. I miss not having physical contact with anyone. Thank you for the lovely compliments, you made my day! I didn’t know you were a lawyer – something else we have in common, although I don’t practice in the US other than to redline contracts. I don’t want the serious lawyer tone of voice!
    1. I stuck to it the WOE yesterday for the first time in weeks and I’m so proud of myself. It’s only one day but one day at a time will do it!
    2. Going to buy new shoes today with Xmas money from my Mum
    3. I practiced speaking Spanish yesterday to a gentleman in the supermarket. He said “no hablo ingles” and I said “pero, yo soy hablando espanol”. And he continued to tell me he didn’t speak English. It’s possible that my Kiwi accent is interfering with my (I like to think) Mexican accent. It wasn’t a success but it made me laugh and in general everyone here is so kind and appreciative that you’re making an effort to try and speak their language.

Hi Wendleg, I was looking out for the headlines….I also hadn’t wanted to mention but it made me think of a story some years ago, a man who was admittedly wearing more than you to avoid any hold luggage charges at all ended up collapsing from heat exhaustion on an easyjet flight! At 37,000 feet….You are right about supermarkets here. In my bad old days, I used to pick up the occasional danish pastry; they were sold individually and you just used a little flimsy plastic bag. Then they moved on to selling them in pairs, in a large rigid plastic container. Bad for me and bad for the environment! That was before BSD! Hope the op goes well; I had not appreciated the recuperation time was quite so long, so do take it easy. I know Duckie has been on grandchildren duty but it would be good to hear from you Duckie! Ditto Shellbob who I don’t think has posted recently. And anyone else! Birdy, well done on avoiding temptation.

I am going to Bali for 2 weeks soon. Our accommodation doesn’t have cooking facilities. Has anyone got any suggestions (besides not worrying about the diet for the 2 weeks)? I usually eat my 800cals on veges, chicken and Olive oil. It’s starting to stress me out big time. I have lost 7kg already and feel I’m ‘on a roll’ with it. Eating rice or bread makes me crave carbs and this is when I stop rolling and stuff down whatever I can find, not starting to roll again for months.
The hotel does have breakfast buffet. I’m hoping for plain eggs and spinach omelette or something similar. It’s the dinners I am worrying about.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice or ideas

Hi everyone, Thanks Birdy for responding to my introduction and directing me over here!
I’m male, 182 CM, 82Kg now. High side of normal blood sugar, and previously high side of normal blood pressure. I’m 2 weeks in and have lost 6kg, although most in the first week, BP has come down fantastically. I rarely have more than 30g carbs but the downside of this is I like to run and last Sunday attempted about 8km and by the end felt awful, could barely walk which is most unlike me! Also weight loss hasn’t been much more than 1 kg over the last week despite carb and calorie intake. Still averaging about 850 calories. I’m very motivated and want to prove to the doctors that I can do all the right things to reduce what I need to before they want to do their thing 😉
    Best wishes to everyone!

    Hi everyone !
I am back in France and 6 T , you will be glad to hear I did not get arrested in Bristol for looking like a very dodgy padded lady with my multiple raincoats 😉 😉
The cases are unpacked, the washing machine is going full pelt and my T K Maxx and White Stuff purchases have pride of place in my wardrobe. I must say my family were impressed with my weight discard . My sister in law is enthusiastically on board now. I have maintained over the 12 days and I am happy with that. Back to my occasional fasting now but it might be a bit tricky as my op is on Tuesday and I will be off work for a few weeks . I will see how I go.
It definitely is true that Uk supermarkets are carby minefields for the uninitiated. So many special offers on buns , cakes and biscuits and reduced price Easter eggs. I was impressed to find a cauliflower steak on a pub menu. O/H managed to resist the chips and mashed potatoes, less so the beer and wine but I am happy to report that he is 7 kg down ! He is making significant changes and that is a great start. Wendleg the Carb Detective is on his case to ensure a good blood sugar result in a couple of months time 😉
Welcome to all the new members I see posting and special thoughts to anyone struggling right now.
Birdy ….I see you survived the Army/Navy rugby fest ?? Did you stay sober ? 😉 Glad you are free of night shifts for a while. xx
Patricia …Sardinia is edging closer !
How are you doing Amz ? How did the fast go ? Don’t put too much pressure on yourself xxx

  • Hi *Birdy*
Thanks for your reply – it’s great you’ve got your GERD under control with the BSD. I tasted apple cider vinegar once and spat it out as it was like drinking acid – perhaps I should have diluted it or something. From all I’ve read in my searches on the web the best diet for GORD/GERD seems to be the BSD Mediterranean style diet. I just need to eat less so I can start losing weight – I’m still a bit nervous of what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat in case I set off my symptoms again – I guess I’ll be less worried as I get more relaxed and confident as I get more used to things. I don’t think I’ll try any kind of fasting til I’m more into the diet

I was shocked to get this diagnosis and to find I’d got an ulcer, but It’s spurred me onto sort it out with lifestyle and diet changes as I don’t want to be on pills if I can help it – although the omeprazole was a godsend at the time, I’ve read too many reports about the risks of taking PPIs long term, like this: https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/09/05/why-you-should-get-off-prescription-acid-reducing-drugs-asap.aspx Also, the rebound from stopping PPIs is so horrible you wonder what they do to your body – ps I had a funny pains around my bowels too – I put it down to my iBS pain but maybe it was the pills.
    Well done on your loss.

Hi and welcome DeutschDirekt. That is a great discard so far and you are definitely heading in the right direction. When you say low carb how low do you mean. Most on here that are T2 stick with just 20g if carbs per day, but others find they discard well by eating 30-50g of carbs a day. My blood sugars were 5.8-6 when I started, I am not diabetic but I was well on my way to being prediabetic and having had diabetes when I was pregnant knew I stood more of a chance of becoming it again, I was actually warned by the doctors at the time that this would be very likely to happen. Both my auntie and my Nan had/have diabetes and my aunt lost half her leg a few years ago because of it! I am 44 and very overweight so took it upon myself to try this way of eating. My bloods are now 4.1 which is well in the normal range and I have discarded just over two stone in weight in the time I have been doing it. Like you my first weeks discard was amazing I lost half a stone in three days of giving up all processed carbs! I know most of that was water but it gave me the incentive to continue. What my waffling is trying to say is make sure your water intake is at 3 litres a day and have a look at the amount of carbs you are consuming. There are a lot of longtime BSDers on here who are a lot more knowledgeable than me and I am sure they will be along shortly to help you. More information of your foods and daily eating would gives them more to work with and be able to give you the advice you need. We have a weekly thread where you will find everyone called ONE WEEK AT A TIME why not jump over there and let us know the extra information. Also if you use the search bar in the top right hand corner you will find lots of questions similar to yours and the helpful answers. This forum has been invaluable to me and everyone so you have made the right choice in coming here. Good luck on your journey and know we are all here and cheering each other on. Birdy 💞🦜

    Hi everyone,

Just thought I’d register and introduce myself and give my experience so far.

I was 88kg, 182CM tall, just over 50 years old. Reasonably active, jogging 3 times a week. Blood sugar top end of normal, BP top end of normal. So wanted to make some changes before it becomes even more difficult.
Started 2 weeks yesterday and after the first 2 days have found it surprisingly easy to keep to around 800 calories – sometimes drifts to 850 or so. In fact now I find it difficult to think how I could consume a whole lot more!

So what has been the effect – I’ve lost 6kg, BP has come dramatically down and lost 2CM off my waist. My blood sugar has been the most difficult to change, it hovers still around the 6-7 throughout the day and occasionally above 7 and touching 8 after eating despite really low carb meals and drops rarely below 6 even overnight. So, I guess time will tell on this.
Also, weight loss in the first week was dramatic, about 5 kgs, but only 1 kg in the second week. Whilst I’m not disappointed it does seem strange.

Anyway, I’ll hopefully use this as motivation to keep going although I’m not necessarily struggling at the moment but it is difficult with a family who want to eat whatever they like!

    Best wishes everyone!

  • Hi Ikeeptrying and Artfulowl I have had gerd now for quite a few years! My doctor thought it might have been a hiatus hernia but when they put the camera down they found nothing and nothing was inflamed. I was given both the tablets you have been proscribed and unfortunately I had side effects from both that actually only occur 1 in a thousand of people! My chemist didn’t believe me but both caused bleeding and soreness of my back passage(sorry to be gross) so I could not take them! I did a self discovery of what I could and couldn’t eat and also looked it up on the internet. Gerd is horrible and it caused me a lot of pain in my side, trapped wind in my upper left side and of course acid reflux! I was told by a friend to try a cap full of organic Apple cider vinegar in a glass of water daily and it worked! No problems anywhere else and pain free and no acid reflux it was a miracle🤗. But also I cut out foods that the internet told me would make if flare up to, citrus fruit, pizza, bread and any kind of mint gum, sweets or teas! This was all before I had even heard of the BSD! I have been on this WOE for nearly five weeks and I have only had to to drink my vinegar water once but I realised it was because I had over done it on my lime juice intake in homemade guacamole so I cut it down and hey presto no more gerd! This WOE has really helped me and I hope that it helps you guys too. Birdy 🦜💞

    Hi everyone,
I’ve not been posting much this week as I have been keeping busy with my horse and with keeping my place clean for prospective viewers (although none have shown up yet, so it’s a bit frustrating). I had a very trying afternoon yesterday as I had the vet out for my horse and he is no better than he was 6 weeks ago, along with the fact that she was running 2 hours late so it was after 8pm by the time I got home so that caused me to go off the rails a bit last night and do a run to the supermarket on my way home for my crutch of a quick ready meal. Feeling despondent about the whole situation also resulted in chocolate and fizzy sugary drinks ending up in my shopping bag as well. I ate the chocolate, but by the time I got home, the sugary drinks had lost their appeal. It’s interesting because it really just seems like a habit. I have a tough day so I buy food that I think will soothe me. Sometimes even just the act of buying it is soothing. However, this time because I have been eating largely BSD through most of the week, the chocolate was too sweet and didn’t taste good.
Sleep is still not great, although I’m doing better than I was last week. Definitely this week has brought to light the habits that I need to change in order to not eat the wrong foods. It’s a work in progress!

Snailrunner – I have a similar situation to you. I am vegetarian but allergic to soy so that rules out a number of lower carb protein options for me. I also tend to rely on non-soy pulses more than would be ideal for rapid weight loss. I have shifted things to eating more lentils than beans and chickpeas though and that helps. I’ve also found a brand of vegetarian sausage that is wheat gluten and eggplant based and low carb and very high protein that I have occassionally. I don’t have any issues with gluten as some do, and I don’t have them often, so it works for me and adds variety. If you are able to eat soy, you may want to look at some things like tofu, tempeh, etc. if you don’t already consume them as they are a complete protein and are lower carb than most pulses. Soy milk will also be higher in protein than most nut milks, but I became allergic after several years of consuming soy milk daily so I am now wary of recommending unfermented soy.
Green and White – I also struggle with elevated cholesterol, and even though mine is just slightly above normal, I have also had a GP threaten to put me on statins. I have a work colleague with a strong family history of heart disease who had elevated cholesterol and he didn’t want to go on statins, so he has dealt with it by taking a plant sterol supplement and upping his veggie consumption and exercising more. It seems to be working for him. He did have the support of his GP for this though. There was a BBC Horizon Truth About Food program a few years ago that dealt with high cholesterol and they took some people with high cholesterol and blood pressure and put them on a whole foods, plant only diet for almost 2 weeks and they all lowered their cholesterol significantly. I think it was called How to be Healthy? I tried it myself once, but I didn’t get my cholesterol measured after so I don’t know if it made much difference. I did feel quite good after a few days though and lost some weight. It is quite hard to stick to in the real world as you have to eat a large volume of food to get all your nutrients and I did end up cooking some things for evenings when I felt like a hot meal. I would think it worth a try though. It won’t likely harm you if you only do it for a short time and I think we all benefit from eating more veg. It may buy you some time with the doctor if you can show such rapid improvement from diet in such a short time.

    Hi Green and White.

The BSD is a great way to lose weight fast and improve your overall health. The first week is the hardest and then, unlike with most diets, it starts to get easier.

My top tip is to drink plenty of plain water. I can’t explain why it makes so much difference, but it definitely helps. I’m not talking gallons, just a tumbler full about three times a day – although if you’re thirsty more won’t hurt.

That’s great news, Mel! Well done.

I think it’s stuff like getting into a particular item of clothing, doing something without getting breathless, making a food choice without feeling we’re missing out which really show us what we’ve achieved in a way that simple numbers can’t.

Hi Kafin – hope the yoga was good. You know, most people there are probably thinking exactly the same as you. I’m going to be stared at and judged. Did you judge them? I can’t imagine you did. And having looked at your blog, I would say you definitely fall into “babe” category. Beautiful smile, wonderful features, lovely colouring, enviable hair. I wish I had a magic wand to stop you beating yourself up. If you have ever thought of yourself as remotely “hideous” then I wonder how I have got through life managing not to traumatise any small children so far. You are a really pretty woman! And funny and witty! You will I hope come to the point where you accept that nature has in fact been kind to you! I also loved the story of Albert pointedly ignoring his new bed…Any more posts like the above and I am going to start talking to you in my serious lawyer tone of voice Ms Kafin…Together we will all get through this.

Hi libbyrebs, and welcome! You are asking for a simple answer to a very complex question regarding carbs. The
studies you are requesting can be found by locating the TAKE A LOOK AT THIS THREAD. Many authors of the
stature of MMosley have written much on it. Have a look! The common wisdom here among those of us
who are very exoerienced BSDers is that keeping carbs very low (20g or less) does NOT damage your
metabolism, but actually PROTECTS it, in a way that standard calorie reduction diets alone cannot . That what makes
the BSD different and revolutionary, and a plan for life.

Welcome to our community, Green and White 🙂 You’ve mentioned chloresterol as well as weight objectives,
and the need to lose weight fast. Additionally, you also made reference to MMosley’s work and “surviving this”.
Can you be more specific about what you might mean by surviving this? The BSD isn’t a quick fix diet, but a
solid lifestyle change that we’ve committed to, to make permanent changes in our health and long term prospects
for remaining that way. There are many very experienced BSDers here, and we’re all delighted to help you over
the learning curve that is part of this new endeavor. As sixturkeys has already suggested, joining a very active
thread like ONE WEEK AT A TIME is a fantastic way to meet members at all stages of the journey. I can promise
you a very warm welcome. No question or concern is too small, so please send them all our way, and we’d
be happy to share our experiences with you! 🙂 Looking forward to getting to know you!

Not sure how much good fat you are eating but that and protein are great tum fillers.

It’s only 11am but I’m posting my positive now. I weighed myself this morning and it wasn’t positive or remotely pleasant. I knew it wouldn’t be because while I stay on track every day, I binge at night. I don’t know why, because I’ve done it before, but I feel powerless to stop it right now. There is something going on in my head that all the distractions, reasons why I want to do this etc are incapable of touching right now. I didn’t weigh in to punish myself, I did it to show myself that no matter what I weigh, I’m still a good person, I’m not hideous and that although it isn’t happening right now, I will get back to doing it, I believe very strongly in this WOE and I will get there. Weighing in daily actually helps me keep on track and maybe this was a first step so even though I feel shaky inside, I’m taking this as a positive. And now, I’m off to my first yoga class in about 6 weeks and I’m scared. I know people there don’t care what I look like and no one is probably even that interested but I feel like everyone is staring and judging when really I’m the only one doing that to myself. So I’m going and I will enjoy the exercise and the company and my lovely sweet teacher who loves me no matter what. So I guess 2 (sort of) positives.
Much love to you all, especially those struggling and many thanks for all the the support you continue to give me xxx

Hi Mel and well done on your success. I agree that feeling good, ftting into clothes and receiving compliments is much better than just seeing the scales moving downwards. Knew you’d get there if you kept going. So glad you didn’t give up. I think we’ve all been at that point at some time and it’s the support and encouragement of everyone on here that keeps us going.

    Happy Saturday everyone!
    And mine certainly is!
Just need to share with you all, I tentatively tried a pair of jeans on I last wore around 4 years ago. Well I’m pleased to say they are on. A little tight but still very wearable! A few weeks ago I couldn’t even get them over my thighs.
I’m not doing this solely to lose weight but based on my waist circumference and height/weight ratio, I know I was over weight and not in optimum health. Health and longevity are my main intentions and this isn’t about a quick fix, and back to old, bad habits. This was started as a permanent change of thinking and of lifestyle.
My first post on here was a cry for help at not seeing the scales moving in the right direction after just two weeks of trying to undo several years of poor diet and unhealthy choices. Well I got lots of encouraging support from you guys and that gave me the determination to stick with it and refocus on what my actual long term goal was (health and longevity)
A friend who I hadn’t seen for a few months commented on how much my hair had grown and wether or not I’d got extensions? I hadn’t and I didn’t really think it was any different from the last time we’d met. I happened to look at a photo we’d taken on the previous meet up and she was right, my hair had gone from short to long in the space of five months. I’d just never noticed it growing(well we don’t do we!)
What I’m getting at is, changes happen, not visibly over night nor in a few days or even weeks. But they are happening and if all of the weight, visceral fat and damage took years to accumulate and then register in my size of clothes then it wasn’t going to just magically disappear in a few weeks (how could it?)
To everyone who was like me in the beginning, don’t give up! This does work and in a few months you won’t believe the transformation, Both inside and out!
Stick with it, my scales didn’t budge and after 3 weeks I got rid of them! I found it psychologically damaging and detrimental to my real goals. Peoples comments of ‘ you’ve lost weight’ and my work shirts that were previously bursting at the buttons and gaping becoming loose and baggy became my measure of success !
My skin looks younger and I feel in control of my health and my future. Something I haven’t felt for a good few years.
I hope this encourages any newbies out there to keep on going and use this group as support like I did.
Now off to enjoy the rest of Saturday in my skinny jeans with an ever so slightly smug expression across my face 😉😊

Loving that so many positives are being posted. It is the only thread I’m keeping track of while away in Turkey and have been enjoying sharing in everyone’s high points and the spin some if you manage to put on otherwise negative situations.

Today is being uncooperative weatherwise, with thick grey cloud threatening rain, but I think I can dig up some positives regardless.
    1) Lovely day out yesterday and came back with two new pairs of slim leg trousers, one in fuschia pink and the other in a bold flora pattern, plus a pair of orange sandals.
    2) Managed to get laundry dry this morning before the weather turned.
    3) Have beef casserole slow cooking in the oven and it smells wonderful!
    And if you’ll excuse a fourth …
    4) Designated ‘warning’ sign garment still fitting okay after three weeks.
To those in the UK, enjoy your extended bank holiday w/e and to those in other locations, have a good weekend too.

Thank you Patricia1066 – I will definitely try your aubergine recipe. And I like the sound of yours too avisamuelgrey.
Birdy – happy to hear you need a belt.. I bet that’s a good feeling. Well done.
My jeans are feeling loose too, and am fitting into some clothes I have not worn for a couple of years.

I don’t post here often as I’m generally a miserable cow (!), but the sun is out today and I am feeling more up than down, so here we go:

    1. 5lb discard after 4 days of TRE, two meals per day, and no off-plan food (calories were a bit over).

    2. Finished the working week on a high after starting it sobbing at my desk on Monday morning, in front of the staff I manage.

    3. No alcohol, even though it is in the house. I sleep better, my meds are more effective and I’m not sabotaging my hard work.

I also made a weird aubergine concoction to use up leftovers. Sliced in half, topped with pesto then baked with a chicken breast fillet, topped with halloumi and grilled pepper antipasti. It was really filling, and I was surprised to find the aubergine had more carbs than the peppers. It came to about 400 cals. As I’m not hungover, I plan to spend the day cleaning (never one of my top priorities) so that there is less guilt in the week ahead. And Monday is an extra day off!

Wishing everyone the best, you are a lovely bunch x
