I watched a really good documentary film on Netflix last night called “Hungry for Change” it really backed up the principal’s of the BSD.
It also exposés the ways that the food industry has been addicting us to the wrong foods for years!
And poisoning us with chemical’s.
More than anything else it convinced me that the BSD and following the Mediterranean way of life is the way forward to a hopefully long and happy life.

My occasional desire for chocolate is satisfied by having a couple of squares of very dark chocolate (85% coca) I niibble at it and let it melt on my tongue. I get such an intense “high” which would only be obtained by eating a family bar of Dairy Milk. But the difference is I get the benefit of the dark chocolate without the sugar rush and subsequent “crash” Of milk chocolate.

It could take s while. Advice is to stay on insulin with til your levels start to drop then reduce gradually also talk to doc.

Hi Fred
I think they’re all good- check out the nutrients- and good to vary them. Just take account of their calories. For instance if I have cashews I have 3, but almonds I have 5 etc

Hi fitjacq
You could use the nuts you’re ok with?
Also other sources of fats eg s bit of olive oil on your veg.

Hi Capo
Lots have people have written that their sugar is higher on waking. There’s a technical name for it which I’ve forgotten. I imagine it’s to get people some energy in the morning, if they have normal Sugar levels that’s not a problem. I think the advise to get a doc to test you is sound.

Hi Chinta
That all sounds great.

Hi Dandy
You poor thing , that sounds awful.
Forgive me if this is totally ridiculous, but could you have had a stomach bug? Those symptoms in a non IBS person would indicate that. Just a thought. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Captainlynne
That’s amazing. Thanks for telling us. Very encouraging.

Hi Melanie
Interesting that people argue with the science- it seems cast iron to me!

Hi Shrinky
I had the opposite experience, which is even more alarming, drinking litres of water but not seeming to urinate more! So I got some herb tea that is diuretic- hawthorn tea- now I’m ok.
Must be very inconvenient for you if you have to rush like that but maybe it’ll settle down?
Penny -
Hi Stringbreaker
I totally agree. I weigh myself every day and waist measure.
What’s the theory behind the sacredness of only weighing once a week? For me it makes the disappointment much worse. With daily weighing you know what’s going on.
Penny -
Shrinky, I didn’t know that about carbonated water. I guess its something else I’ll have to research!

Auntylil,
Quinoa!
I’m guessing you were having something with tofu? But I have no idea what the gone off jellied eel is…unless it really is gone off jellied eel?Quinoa was pretty bland (never mind looking awful) but I only had 30g of it and the bag is 300g so I guess I will have to shut my eyes. Was yours any better?

Hi Paul
Another good one is frittata with some salad

Hi swabs
I’m in a similar position. Have lost 4 lb in total and I’ve done 13 days. Walking 1000s of steps a day. It’s strange. My sister has list nothing in 16 days. But she’s been ill and not active. However she has lost 3″ and I’ve lost 2″ off our waists. Which is great.
I think our diets were quite healthy already, only the carbs are different so that may be relevant. We were eating no junk food and almost no sugar anyway but of course lots of rice and wholemeal bread!
Anyway we both feel better on the diet and I’m sleeping much better so we re keeping going.
Eventually something must happen!
Good luck

Hi Janet
Good point

Hi Merseychic
I’m even slower. On day 13, have lost 4 lb in total, been sticking to calories, no grains, walking 1000s of steps a day.
But I feel a lot better and sleeping a lot better so I’m keeping going. Anyway it’s not hard to do.
Good luck

on 14 Feb 2016 at 01:19 in Fast 800Hi joycey
Great you’re feeling better.
A lot of people have said about higher readings on waking. I think I’ve read that it’s s natural thing that is to give some energy in the morning which with normal BG isn’t a problem. So I think don’t worry about that if it goes down later.
Michael says have half a plateful of appropriate veg and don’t weigh it. I think it’s on the forums somewhere. This has caused some confusion but I suppose that’s what we should do. It’s not huge calories anyway so I think go for it. I am!

Hi Bill
Thanks for the link.
I looked at one or two recipes but haven’t found one without sugar yet. Maybe there are some!

Anna, I’m wondering that myself. I’ve never been to Prague so no idea what meals will be available. It’s only 4 nights so hopefully it’ll be ok. Looks like some protein available at hotel breakfast. Just have to make best choices from what is available. Fortunately I don’t drink alcohol so that won’t be a temptation! Exploring should be good exercise! Might food shop in market/supermarket and sneak back into hotel 😃. Outward flight is 2pm so will try to get good meal at airport beforehand. Flight back is 12.30 so will try to get meal at airport – if not landing back in UK 13.45 so could eat on arrival. Just one more thing to try and plan LOL. Thinking I could have picked somewhere better for this holiday LOL.
I’m keeping careful records, so will see how it goes 😊

That’s great news Bill, you must be so pleased. Your posts and experiences are encouraging.
It’s hard at first to change the way we think about food. There’s a lot of blame directed at type 2 diabetics, and a lot of guilt we feel when we can’t get our blood sugar/ weight down. So good to have some decent research and advice at last. Can’t wait for it to filter through to the whole population. Maybe the big food manufacturers will feel the pressure then to produce healthier food, can only dream! -
Hi
Can anyone tell me if there is a printable version of the 4weekneating plan that is at the back of the book. I am in a pretty intensive job and often work long hours. When I get home if the evening meal is not simple then I eat badly. If I had the menu plan in clear view and can create a shopping list from that I will find it easier to be organised and stick to the plan. I have purchased a digital version of the book but don’t seem to be able to print those pages. Sure they avsilable as download somewhere? Thanks for your assistance

Well done Hercules a very great first week…. you may well need to call on your Herculean powers to complete this voyage!

I have an a agamatrix wavesense jazz kit. The replacement strips are the cheapest I could find… about £13 for 50. I do mine daily, but I’m sure it’s not necessary, especially if your readings are consistent. Good luck with your eight weeks Ed.

on 13 Feb 2016 at 19:45 in Welcome to the BSDDay 13 and hubby has lost 12.5 pounds and I have lost 12 pounds so far. Nearly our 1st stone! Enjoyed this week the peanut butter dip – delicious and very satisfying. Mexi Platter was lovely, so too was the Cottage Cheese, Pear and Walnuts – very filling. Favourites this week have been the Mushroom Risotto – we added some chicken to this – very nice. Also enjoyed the Bolognaise too.
Noticed slight blurred vision this week – this is due to lowering blood sugar. Hubby had it the week before but it soon wore off.

Hello Fatcat and AnnaJennings.
I must admit i’ve not made the cloud bread yet. Glad yours turned out well AnnaJennings.
I’ll have been on it a week tomorrow and at at this morning, have lost 8lbs. I must admit it’s been easier than i thought.
How is it going now Fatcat? Are you missing the cereal and bread? I suppose I miss my porridge, i just used to have it plain with perhaps a sliced banana on top, but have cut it out altogether, same with bread. I started making my own bread recently and bought a breadmaker. I don’t like all the preservatives and sugar that’s in commercially made bread.

If you are massively increasing your exercise you will be increasing your muscle mass , which weighs more than fat, which is wht your scales may show no loss 🙁 BUT increased muscle mass will help you burn calories this coming week 🙂
-
The figures in the book are often averages so there will be people who lost a lot and others not so much. So its not just you Nessie! But still a kilo a week is better than most other diets so be chuffed!
-
Oh dear, what was it? Thank you for making me giggle. I’ve always thought the skin like stuff that comes off broad beans are like toe nails. Off now to cook some marinated cubes of polystyrene and wedges of gone off jellied eel.
-
Weight loss at the start of a diet is often water, so if you don’t lose straight away, maybe you had less water to get rid of..

Hi Merseychic. Not really relevant, but are you a scouser? I am a Wirralchic from over the water!

Hi
I have been having a cup of homemade veg soup followed by a low carb chocolate bar for lunch with a cup of black coffee – delicious, and certainly hits the spot with the intense chocolate flavour. -
Well done that is really great. Four weeks left for me I hope I do as well as you.

Hi,
I lost .1kg over 5 days and was gutted but in perspective my blood sugar had dropped to 5.4, which was great. I am now just starting the 2nd week and this morning I have lost 1.2kg and 2inches off my waist. Just remember as I was told that everyone loses weight differently. I keep a food diary and weigh and count all the calories. If I go over by a small amount I don’t stress as the next day could be slightly less than 800.
Don’t despair you will lose weight just need to give it time. Good luck. -
Forgot to say the beetroot falafel’s are on page 201!
-
The beetroot falafel’s are delicious. I made a batch of them and took them for lunch. They are also very filling and found the serving of was way too much for me. Hummus is also good with celery and carrots. Good luck

Very well done to all of you, for completing and still going, I plan to start on Monday, and after reading different posts must say that I am very much inspired and spurred on

posted by paula121s on Courgetti Prawns – are the calories correct?
on 13 Feb 2016 at 16:43 in Fast 800Definitely safer to use a separate calorie counter, I find it quick and easy to check online. Some of the meals do seem quite high. Checking the calories and weighing everything also gives me a better idea of what I’m eating, making me think about it more.
-
Thats great news. You should be thrilled with yourself. Just started 2nd week and think it’s going well, will hopefully make it as far as you have. Well done.
-
I also weigh each day before breakfast, it gives me an indicator of whether the current plan is working or if I need to adjust things slightly. Maybe more excercise, or stick to the lower calories meals for a day ? I think I would go off track if I weighed once a week as we were always advised to !

on 13 Feb 2016 at 16:27 in Fast 800I also use the recipes but add up the calories individually with a checker. I don’t worry too much if I go a little over, for me not exceeding carbs seems to be the key.

Hello Tuesday. I haven’t heard of them but have managed to control my chocolate craving with two tiny squares of 70 per cent chocolate with a cup of tea in the evening. This hasn’t seemed to have damaged the weight loss so far, but I don’t know how it would affect blood sugar if you are watching that?
