So my 8 weeks is up today. I’ve lost 12.4kg which is 27.2 pounds just shy of 2 stone. Absolutely thrilled. I’m going to keep going for another 4 weeks until my Hba1c and cholesterol tests get done. After that I don’t know. Often that’s when I start sabotaging my eating and it gets out of control. My blood sugar levels are usually between 4.5 and 6, either pre-meal or 2hrs post meal. So that’s exciting. My blood pressure has reduced and I’ve halved my Ramipril to 2.5mg. Another 12kg and I might be able to quit them altogether. Feeling ultra positive today 😄😄

Thank you SunnyB – yes, I do need to keep up with the fluids although I can wee for England some days! I am definitely going to re-focus – I go on holiday on Wednesday but I think even a few days will help kick-start me. I won’t be very strict on holiday but as I have pretty much weaned myself off starchy carbs, I know I can keep to BSD principles even on holiday. It will also be very hot and I find that reduces my appetite as well.

Now listen to me you wonderful peoples. You are all great. FFBB I always pinch a couple of chips, it’s the only way I eat them. I don’t like my own, only other peoples and I think it’s allowed lol.
Well, I have painted my nails so my hands look pretty. I am trying to decide what to wear and then Jovis and I are going out to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary. That means we have been together for 42 years. I wouldn’t have got that for murder! I wouldn’t swap him for anything. I am sorry people, but I will probably enjoy a glass of wine with my meal, then back on the wagon tomorrow. Forgive me for being weak on this day. I can’t deny my Jovis a glass of bubbly…he has been so supportive and I know he enjoys a glass when we go out.
Hello66, You are great and you have taken to military life so well.
EC. Keep on doing what you are doing. It sounds fine.
Liz, enjoy your picnic, it sounds lovely.
Madmare, have a lovely holiday.
Lee, enjoy the Tudors and everything that you do. We are entitled to enjoy ourselves our way, just as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. I would indeed bottle Jovis and sell him if I could…I would make a fortune!
Now, AT EASE!
March up the Cherry Cream Hill with me tomorrow and we can show the world how great we are!

What follows is my daily report.
Poor day WOE wise. Lunch was grabbed on the run and I pinched a few chips as they were chip shop chips and smelt heavenly and tasted fabulous (mind you other people’s chips….am I right?) At least I didn’t go the whole hog and have battered fish as well.
Other than that nothing to report. The weather is typically British today so dodged the showers.
Hope you are all well and remember to file your reports.

Really, getting back to the BSD 800 basics would help if you can bear to go there. Also keep an eye on hydration, as this is so important to keeping things working as they should – including weight loss. Eating carbs does cause water retention, so in your situation SSB, good hydration is very important.
Barbarar – can you incentivise yourself in someway? Perhaps by promising yourself certain non-foodie treats for hitting particular goals. Even setting mini-goals can help keep you focused and make it easier to hold on to motivation – after all the prospect of losing a few pounds, is a lot less daunting than the prospect of having to lose 20 or 30 pounds.
Good luck and I hope you are able to get back on track and achieve your goals.
-
HI sugarfreequeen – I’m no expert, but I wonder if there is any value reviewing your calorie and carb intake? And how is your hydration? Think we all become a bit jaded and that’s when we get a bit lazy about the cals and carbs and things can slip almost without us noticing. Equally, we can become a bit complacent about hydration too.
Personally, when I have been struggling to get things heading in the right direction, I’ve found taking things back to basics helpful. However, I am sure that others more qualified than I, will be offering some advice too.
Whatever solution you choose, I hope that it will have the desired result and look forward to reading of positive results soon.

I started the 8 week blood sugar diet just over a year ago and lost 3 stone in the first 6 months. I exercise by walking 14 to 15 minute miles (depending how energetic I feel) and I walk anything from 2 to 5 miles everyday on top of my busy daily life. I have a fitbit and always way exceed 10,000 steps a day so I am fitter than I have ever been in my life. I test my blood glucose weekly and it has been normal since starting the diet and the last cholesterol test I had was perfect . I continue to strictly follow the principles of the blood sugar diet and I am sugar free, however despite all this I still need to lose another 2 stone as I am considered obese but the weight just will not shift. Any ideas appreciated.

Hi all, I’m two-thirds of the way through Week 1 and seem to be losing about 1lb a day. Long may it last as I seem to have much more to lose than most. Ideally it would be good to drop 100lbs (yup, one hundred). I’m surprised that I’ve not been feeling hungry much if at all. My intake is much as ever but minus the bread (and all flour products), refined sugar and potatoes. I’m feeling great and much more active. The odd headache is the only thing I’ve noticed as being different and they’re not severe. Has anyone out there got a large amount to lose?
-
Hi Mixnmatch – yes, I think that’s where I need to go – I know if you reduce carbs down to less than 50g, your body naturally burns fat and in fact can’t lay down fat because of the very reduced insulin, but it’s still easy to eat too many calories in fat. My TDEE is only 1300 so I know I go over it some days. Interestingly, I had some toast for the first time in ages yesterday and my weight was up 2 1/2 lbs this morning – I know that’s not actual ‘fat’ ( I would have had to have eaten 8000 extra calories to put that on, and I definitely didn’t eat that much toast!) but I think it is my body’s response to a pile of carbs that I am not used to eating. I will do 800 for a week or so to restart the weight loss then keep a check on those fats!

Failing that you could look at http://www.dietdoctor.com for low carb recipes.

Weight still fluctuating but BG steady at 5.0 so I am very happy with that and insulin at 20. Wondering whether I should go back on 90mg of glycazide (now on 60mg) and reduce insulin further or just keep on with what I am doing. Glycazide gave me very low readings in the afternoon, any thoughts.

Madmare–well done on the swimming!! It’s truly one of the best exercises. I still feel a bit self-conscious about being in a bathing suit but I’m working on that.
Hello 66 “Sub Liztenant” I LOVE IT!!! we share a sense of humour!
Kev and I are treating ourselves to a day at the cottage. I got up and, though we planned to spend the day puttering about the house trying to carve some manner of order from the chaos, thought ‘fuck it’ and packed a picnic. We have a cottage on an island about 2 hours NW of Toronto and, given the weather, it would be madness not to visit on such a lovely sunny day. We’ll return late this evening and may commit to chores tomorrow. I’ve packed a healthy low carb picnic for the beach so bye for now.
Remember troops, in moments of weakness just link arms, dip your shoulder, jaw forward and soldier on. We have each other’s back.

I have the amazing mental picture of us all standing a top a hill of some kind, arms linked and a beautiful sunset behind us. I would love to actually do that one day but the mental vision sustains me and makes me smile. I shall call it cherry 🍒 cream hill.
So, I started 22nd May and have today made the decision to up my daily calorie intake to 1000 per day. I know I’m not at goal yet but I’m nearly there and I’m hoping that a slight increase will help with the niggling health issues I’ve been having. They are not major in the same way some of you are suffering but I do want to feel good. Plus, I think it will help my long term journey towards maintenance. I refuse to gain weight again and tbh, I can’t afford to. I would have nothing to wear (and trust me, naked is not a look I can rock anymore. I look like I need a really good iron…..😱)
Now, I’m a quasi scientist and I wish cloning was in my field of expertise. If it was, I suspect Jovis and Kev would feature 🤣🤣
Lazy weekend for me. Currently curled up with a Tudors box set (totally trashy but the only junk I can enjoy right now!😈) I’ve had two hard boiled eggs and feel very sated.
Have a great day. Cherry 🍒 anyone?

I am sorry to hear of your troubles but it sounds like in usual Liz style you have them under control.
I love the image of us all striding together arm in arm. So much so I was a bit terry earlier and had to retire to the bathroom claiming I had something in my eye.
I don’t know how I am doing weight wise as there are no scales but my clothes are no tighter. my youngest god daughter is doing wonders for my fitness as its 20 lengths of the pool before breakfast. The pool is tiny but I can now do 10 front crawl! It’s been years since I could do anything like that.I am trying to limit the carbs as much as possible but its not easy! I dont want to be a pain as others are on holiday too
Going to restart in earnest once homeLove to all

Portion sizes are key especially with higher fat consumption as it is so calorifically dense. I would suggest that you at least weigh things like cheese, butter, cream, oil and avocado, so you can tell if you are eating too much of these. This is where the discipline of the 800 calories comes in very useful in resetting portion sizes. You need to be careful as well to reduce your calories as you lose weight as you actually need less to maintain your weight. Recalculate your TDEE at your new weight so you know what to aim at on average.
I maintained interest while losing my weight by varying the ‘patterns’ of the basic BSD so used 5:2, 4:3, 2:5 and 6:1 as well as the 8 weeks at 800, and I still throw in the occasional 800 day because I enjoy them, and use 16:8 style intermittent fasting regularly. I have been maintaining at my target weight now since Feb 1st so my six month anniversary is almost here 😀 so it can be done.

Oh and Lessmuffintop I am so impressed that you walked to the pub! It is far to cold here to do that.
-
It is fantastic how many of us are giving this a crack.
So confession time – on Monday the button on my jeans popped off 😆 It was my clothings way of telling me to get rid of the weight I have put back on.
I did so well for 5 days this week but then friends called in on Friday and oops, the wine again. Great fun night but back on it again today. I have managed to have friends over tonight to watch the rugby and didn’t have a drink (although I did have soda water and just let everyone assume I was on the gins, so I didn’t get nagged – that really sounds quite bad).
Does anyone else have trouble at the weekends? -

Back with head in better place. Just off for a run as have been so busy it had got pushed out. Also finished an extra day a week work contract yesterday so will be less busy from now on – I know that I need to stick with my normal contract only for the time being so as to have sufficient ‘head space’ and control eating better. So lessons learned. I am off to Japan for a friend’s wedding on 25th September – reckon that will be more or less 8 weeks. Refocusing now and absolutely determined to get rid of these pesky 5 kilos I keep losing and regaining for good. No time for more just now but hoping everyone has a good weekend in every way. Thinking of you all! -
Morning, just wondering if any of you have used the previous online programmes that you pay for …seem to be hosted by an Australian company and whether you gained more help by doing the diet that way, other than the motivation to loose weight as you have put down hard cash? I have read the blurb about what you get but wonder if it is a tangible difference.
Thanks

Hi Barbarar,
I’m not quite the same as you – I lost 10lbs in the autumn but I would like to lose about 6-7 more to be comfortable with myself. I started with lots of enthusiasm, like you but these last few pounds just don’t want to go. I try to keep mainly to the BSD diet but I don’t count calories – I have just cut out starchy carbs and sugar (mostly!😬). Like you I am finding it hard to keep going because I feel like I am eating the right things but the weight isn’t going down. I am happy to be your ‘buddy’ and we can encourage each other – I’m wondering if a week or so of 800 might kick start the weight loss.
Good luck with it – there are loads of really supportive groups on here with some amazing and inspirational people.

Just wonder how you are getting on? I’ve been ‘playing’ with the diet for the past few weeks but am going for it in earnest on Monday having eaten that which we should not have in the house. I have found it not too hard to exercise but have resigned myself that I won’t be major performing (am re training after major accident a few months ago). Am thinking performance improvement may come out of loosing weight !!

I successfully lost 30lbs on the diet last year but have sadly put back on 20 of those lost pounds. It’s been a real struggle to keep to the diet and I have had many false starts. I was wondering if there is anyone who has been in the same situation as me. I just can’t revive that wonderful resolve and the interest I had last year.
-
Hi cat
You are doing the right thing! I didn’t get myself sorted for 50 and regret it but am sorting it for 53. So far on this diet I have lost weight really easily. It is quite weird because I tried a protein shake diet earlier in the year and lost virtually nothing and it was torture but somehow this seems easier and the weight seems to be melting .Last night I walked with hubby to pub 1.7 miles had a Diet Coke and an extra dry martini then walked back lost a 1 lb this morning !

posted by Mrs Honey on Hi I am starting the 8 week blood sugar diet on Monday 10th July, join me 😀
on 29 Jul 2017 at 08:39 in Welcome to the BSDWell, I’m in week 4 now. The first week I lost 9 pounds, the second 1 pound, the third 2 pounds. I know 12 pounds in 3 weeks is a good loss ,but it is frustrating to lose so little when you’re only eating 800 cals. But, I shall persevere!
I’ve actually had very noticeable physiological side effects, some so bad I’ve thought about quitting. The one thing I haven’t felt is hungry, like you I can’t believe such a small amount of food can be filling! So, what I’ve noticed was, in the first week extreme thirst, really dry tongue, fatigue, muscle weakness, no stamina, second week, pins and needles started in my arms and spread (mineral deficiency), third week at times I’ve had some of all the symptoms but mostly feeling not too bad.
The good thing has been no headaches or fuzzy headedness which I’ve suffered from for years. I thought it was my underactive thyroid but seems it might be sugar related. I suppose my insulin levels have been stable (although I’m not diabetic or pre-diabetic).
I just hope I lose a bit more than a pound a week to make it worthwhile, I can’t say I enjoy low carbing. -

on 29 Jul 2017 at 05:53 in Welcome to the BSDHey Troops, Had a wonderful day today! Instead of continuing the battle to sort the house Kev and I went out for lunch at a proper French restaurant (poached salmon plate with salad–well done Lizzie) tho’ Kev the bastard had the same…..and a small plate of assorted pastry samples with a drizzle of cream. I snatched the cream and drank all 2 ounces of it as he reached for it. He didn’t mind. Then we returned home, picked up our Rosie and went for a walk down the road by the lake. We sat on the bench, gazed out at the lake, felt the sun and were mindful of the moments. Kev pulled me closer and offered “We’re getting there Liz, we’re getting there.” On the way home he stopped the car and said he just had to run into the market. Returning with a bag, he wouldn’t say what was in it so I’m thinking something of a delicate nature like heat rash ball powder or athlete’s foot cream. Kev’s a bit funny about that sort of stuff. When we got home I dove into the powder room for a pee (typical) and bellowed mid-stream “KEV CAN YOU GET THE KETTLE ON” (typical). Emerging from toilet, still sorting my various layers, I entered the kitchen to see my Kev, his apron on, a silly chef’s hat we picked up years ago atop his head, holding a plate with 6 pitted cherries in one hand and a can of aerosol redi-whip cream in the other (his market purchase.) Then in a silly French accent said “Might I suggest a little food for the soul for Madame.” With that I stuffed the cherries into my mouth and blasted 40 calories and 3 grams of carbs directly into my soul.
Days are what we make them. The only expectation we have to meet is our own. And the simplest gestures can bring such joy.I’m just going to bed here at 12:45am Saturday morning and many of you are just getting your morning kettle on. The day may well test you but picture us, an army of impenetrable strength, arms linked, shoulders braced and heads bowed to meet the challenge, soldiering forth. Together and undivided. Come the end of the day we’ll celebrate. If one of us falls, the rest will gather around and carry you until you feel ready to get your feet on the ground and walk on, arms linked again. Just as you did for me. You bandaged the damage of my fears and for that I will always be thankful.
Much love,
Aerosol Liz

on 28 Jul 2017 at 23:20 in Welcome to the BSDMarsie, the pleasure is all mine. 🙂
Speaking of recipes, time to post another one. This is a modification of one of my mother’s dishes that I dearly love but is made with bread crumbs. I eliminated them and replaced her higher calorie mixture of beef, lamb and pork with plain ground turkey. I added chopped mushrooms and spring onions to moisten it up.
Turkey Mushroom Kebabs
1 lb ground turkey
8 oz fresh mushrooms (I like blends of wild or Asian mushrooms for flavor variety), finely chopped
1 spring onion (about 70 grams), minced
1 tblsp garlic powder
1 tblsp ground cumin
1/2 tblsp ground turmeric
1/2 tblsp ginger powder
1/2 tblsp ground coriander
1/2 tblsp ground yellow mustard seed or dry mustard
1 tsp cayenne
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, mint and/or oregano (any fresh herbs you happen to have around can work here in any combination)
1 tsp salt
freshly ground pepperSpritz a non-stick pan with cooking spray or use a teaspoon of olive oil. Heat on medium. Sautee the onion a few minutes until it softens. Add the mushrooms and salt and pepper them. Cook until they’ve released their liquid. Take the pan off the heat and let cool to room temperature.
In a large bowl, add the cooked veg, spices and herbs to the turkey. Mix it all up. Spray the pan you used for the mushrooms and put it back on medium heat. Scoop the turkey mixture up into a heaping tablespoon and drop it in the pan. My mother makes them in the classic football shape, but I prefer to flatten them as soon as they hit the pan just because they cook faster that way. Flip them over when you see the edges go from pink to white. Cook on the second side until there is no more pink to be seen along the sides.
Put them on a paper towel-lined plate to cool and repeat until you’ve cooked all of the turkey mixture. Eat them warm fresh out of the pan or cold on their own or in a salad. They’ll keep in the fridge for days. The recipe makes exactly 36 kebabs. A serving of 8 of them, which feels tremendously indulgent, is just 147 calories and 2 grams of carbs. You could eat this entire recipe at one time and still have 212 calories left for the day.
For the ideal accompaniment, hot or cold, you can’t go wrong with tzatziki sauce. Here’s my version derived from a family recipe.
Tzatziki
1/4 cup (60 grams) Greek yogurt
1 small Persian cucumber (80 grams or so), finely grated
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tblsp chopped fresh dill
1 tblsp fresh lemon juice
s&p to tasteDo not peel the cucumber! This is where so many tzatziki recipes go wrong. You need the peel for nutrients and for flavor. The trick is to use a cucumber with few seeds, a thick but not bitter skin and a high skin to flesh ratio. That’s why I use the Persians. I haven’t tried them, but I suspect pickling cucumbers would work well, as would those huge English seedless ones, only of course you’d have to cut off a section because the whole thing is the size of a baseball bat.
Grate it as finely as you can. The holes on my food processor grater blade are too big for this job. I used the second smallest side of my box grater instead. You get a lovely pulp that distributes extremely well throughout the yogurt. The water comes out of it much more easily too. Squeeze out as much of the liquid from the cuke pulp as you can. I use a cheesecloth and just strangle that stuff to death. When it can no longer produce a drip, toss it in the yogurt along with everything else and mix up with a fork or whisk.
Let it sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours, but believe me when I tell you that it is SO much better the next day. These flavors are subtle and need time to develop.
-
I’m on day 4 and today was the first day I didn’t feel overwhelmed with hunger 😄

Hi guys, on the week leading up to my period I am unable to lose weight, my body stores it as water until my period comes, then I see the weight loss the following week. I only know this because I was working with a nutritionist who had some very techy scales. It happens every month at the same time for me.

We’ve all been there, Denwiles. All the weighing, measuring, planning and calculating is a lot of work and it’s hard not to feel a sense of futility when you don’t see the fruits of your labours on the scales. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve crumbled into a sobbing pile of despair over the year I’ve been on the BSD, even knowing that the losses will always start again.
Having said that, I know there’s a mourning period when you’ve first said goodbye the carbs, but it might help you to stop thinking of the foods you’ve cut as “treats” instead of the poisons they actually are. You wouldn’t have had to take such drastic measures as the BSD if those foods hadn’t materially harmed your body.

Have just cooked the mackerel frittata from this book. I hate smoked mackerel. The recipe was fun to cook and the meal delicious. I’ve been asked please to make it again!! Really feel I’ve had a MEAL. Thank you Sarah Schenker for all your recipes in the original book as well as this new book…..they’re all easy to make because they are so well thought out. 100% success rate with everything I’ve made so far. The person for whom I cook has a default setting of pies or Chinese takeaway, but has raved over all the recipes so far. We are working on 3 months of using the books before he has another blood test, rather than trying to lose x amount of weight in y time.
Good luck everyone. -

It is difficult to explain to people why I don’t eat at cafes etc. and travelling is a major planning exercise. I used to live in Essex and knew every toilet stop on every route back to the Midlands.
I think we should petition for a like button for this forum!
Take care everyone.

on 28 Jul 2017 at 18:31 in Fast 800hi everyone,
pah, stayed the same for the whole of week 3 – went up and down 200g but am back down now. Hard to have a week with no loss isn’t it? So i decided to get the fat secret app and switch from my fitness pal as it seems more accurate and i am interested in the carb/protein/fat ratio – i think it may have been possible that i haven’t been eating enough protein – its very informative anyway!
i have 34 days until my IVF weigh in – still need to lose another 5.5 kilos – eek! Drinking water like its out of fashion and enjoying the compliments from my fellow exercise class goers! I am 10.5lbs from my starting weight ( 4 kilos) off and week one was 7, week 2 was 2 and week 3 has been zero. Keeping on though – i have been pretty good – usually around 850 except yesterday when i was doing a training for a university and my lunch – lentil salad with tuna – had gone fizzy! so i ended up eating later than i normally would – as in after 6pm and i had a hash brown and a sausage taking my total for the day to 1400. Not a disaster, just annoying.
Today’s good noshing:
100g plain Yoghurt with 10g oat bran 10g coconut and 100g strawbs.
Salad with blue cheese, pear, watercress and green beans ( from the book but substituted ricotta for 30g blue cheese) was delicious
Dinner – bacon chop – oh so yum, with a huge mushroom, 50g broad beans and a big salad – in at 797 cals and 50.15g carbs. -
S-g I think it’s so easy to ‘get lazy’ about food as you say. I certainly do.
Yesterday wasn’t the best for me and today had only been marginally better. Off out soon for an Indian meal but that will be BSD friendly just chicken tikka and salad. So sorry I’ve not posted, I hate posting unless I can be positive. I am feeling more positive now for tomorrow despite being out tomorrow evening for a Greek meal, chicken again!
Hope you all have a good positive and healthy weekend.
