on 13 Jun 2018 at 22:57 in BSD Way of LifeThis is my third day of recording everything again- it’s a lot more arduous than it was a year ago! Hopefully I’ll get back in the groove soon. It does put a check on mindless nibbling I find. Also getting some early morning walks which is new for me, I’ve always walked later in the day. But it’s very special to be out in the crisp dawn before the roads are busy and it’s just me and the dawn chorus. No change on the scales yet but I’m sure it will happen.

on 13 Jun 2018 at 22:16 in Fast 800Stuck to 800 calories today, but far too many carbs from bread, albeit not white. Will have to work my way back to ignoring the stuff even if I hate throwing it away, and it goes off so fast in this sticky weather. Tomorrow I will probably have more calories, but not until the evening, and try to keep lower carbs, with no bread. No problem with hunger, it seems my metabolism is still relatively well adjusted despite my months of being back on unregulated carbs. I will measure my hip and thigh measurements next Tuesday, so I can get some feedback as to whether my version of the BSD is working on the areas I need them to. I will also commit to half an hour on the cross trainer on any non badminton/HIIT days, to accelerate my increasing fitness and build some more muscle. I will jump on the Boditrax again after my birthday at the end of this month and will report back what it says.

Thanks so much for the encouragement chimp tamer…I can’t wait to start feeling more cheerful (without turning to sugar to feel that). It’s really helpful to read other people’s experiences. and I absolutely relate to having to be strict and not have a taste of the families food…that’s a slippery slope for me too. so glad you’re finding this easier now you’ve experienced it for over a week! The days feel a bit like they’re dragging for me… but just keep on plodding onwards!

on 13 Jun 2018 at 20:58 in Starting the BSDHi ! I have just started 10 days ago with diet and are dibetic with insulin and tablets. I have been able to lower my insulin but I have tried to times to eat porridge from rolled oat and gets a bloodsugarpeak at 10-11 from this meal even tough I take te same amount of insulin as I did before diet and I did not have this problem before.
Have anyone experienced this or have a good explanaton of what happens with my bloodsugarleves now?
I miss my porridge….but also want to know what happens. I understand oatmeal has a relative high GI but has tolerated this before. -
Hi welcome to the forum from another newbie.
I’m only on day 10 so don’t have the experience of others to share but I DO remember days 1-9 very well. Every one will have a unique experience I guess but mine was:
Day 1-3: STARVING!!! Grumpy, miserable, couldn’t sleep, obsessed with food, pounding headaches, lethargy. I survived through sheer will power but I already knew in my mind that there was no way I could cope with that for long and I trusted others further down the line who assured me this was ‘carb flu’ and I would adjust,
Day 4 & 5: Noticeably reduction in “noise” from the carb monster (or ‘chimp’ as I think of it). More space in my brain for things other than food and less hungry. Also FAR FAR more able to tolerate hunger. So although I experienced hunger there was none of the agitated desperation for food that I am used to.
Day 6&7. Mood more stable and energy better. A very busy weekend where I had no access to low carb food from 8am to 6pm. So I just didn’t eat. And it was fine. This would have been 1000% impossible for me before. (I used to struggle to go more than 2-3 hours without food. I have even sometimes eaten in the middle of the night if I can’t sleep).
Days 9 & 10 – Appeitite is well regulated, mood upbeat, energy very good.
So yes it gets easier!
I cook for a sporty family who eat high carb. The house is full of carbs and I have to cook them. I have got round that by buying luxury foods: smoked salmon, king prawns, organic chicken breasts, luxury fresh soups, posh veg, berries. I am still spending less on food that I was before so I feel no guilt at all about that! I have made delicious meals and just skipped the carbs. Last night was chicken fajitas which I had with lots of veg. I just skipped the wraps. The night before was moussake from the recipe section which the kids had with a baked potato. Also baked salmon with cauliflower rice (kids had normal rice). It is mostly about planning. And about deciding that ZERO means ZERO. I will not have a ‘taste’ of their food or just one square of chocolate ot whatever. In my experience of quitting smoking in previous years the ‘chimp’ in our minds can;’t cope with wiggle room and argues all the more if you give it any. A flat out NO shuts the chimp up. I reaasure it that this is not forever. I just ask myself (my chimp) 2 questions if I ever want to cheat:1) Am I at goal yet? 2) Have I planned this ‘cheat’ in advance? If the answer is no then the answer is no. I have a cheat meal planned for father’s day as we will be going out to eat. I won’t eat carbs but I am sure it will be over 800 cals that day. And that’s ok because I am choosing to do that. For me once I cave and think ‘just one’ I am on a slippery slope. I think that is why diets have not worked before. They all actively encourage cheating. Sins or spare calories for treats or whatever. Whereas NONE is easier than just a little in my experience. Hope that helps. -
Hi Brownwolf! How are you finding it so far? I’m finding I’m not too hungry because I’m chugging a whole load of water, but definitely been in a terrible mood the past couple of days and no energy. Waiting for this to improve…I’m day 3 now. I think for me the weekdays I can be fairly disciplined although it’s hard, but I’m really scared about the weekends as the family will be home and eating whatever they want, and I just want to join in…going to have to be strong.
Nushi how are you finding it? Hope you’re doing ok 👌 -
Hi, I just started yesterday, so am happy to journey alongside you, it will help to have someone at the same stage as me to share support. I have about 5 stone to lose in total so am hoping this will give me a good kick start and help me change the way I eat.

Today I’ve found my mood has been a little better although I’m still pretty grumpy. But ive found I’m really struggling with the lack of energy…even going for a walk today felt like hard work. When did you find this improved? I’ve been drinking lots of water to keep the hunger pangs at bay, but that does mean I’m constantly peeing 😂😂 -
Hi everyone, , I have a confession to make, last night a had a couple of vodka tonics. Some might know that while I was on holiday I had my FB account hacked and they then got into my email address. I decided to just write it off as experience and opened a new FB and email. Then I decided to see if my provider could get my email back as my daughter said they could be doing anything, if you go buy a new car you might find your credit blocked and so on. Anyway I got it back and there were nearly 800 emails – 70% my usual junk, shops, BSD etc but I was shocked at the activity that had gone on in my name. I wont go into details but I have just been on the phone to a online loan company who I am supposed to have opened an account with. They wouldn’t tell me anything but reassured me they had nothing in my name. Phew….. Then I found someone selling things on FB using my email address but not my name so I confronted her and opened a whole can of worms getting myself into trouble. That is my excuse. I have been told to contact the gendarmes but I deleted everything so have no evidence and my provider says it cannot be retrieved so I just have to forget about it and calm down.
I had my doctor appointment this afternoon and he is thrilled with my results especially as I have had a total of 5 weeks holiday since my last tests. Because I was having a smear test today he didn’t do the normal things like BP or weigh me – but my weight is on my blood results anyway, so we didn’t have that conversation – I am probably about 1.5kg heavier than last time but that will soon change. Anyway my drinks did not impact on my weight, just the same, but may have prevented a small loss. So I have to get back into the mindset I had before.
Sorry this has been repeated here and in the weekly thread and I have cut and pasted.

V, the video was one put on by Graham but you should be able to find it on YouTube it is called Sugar, The Bitter Truth by Dr Robert Lustig – not to be mistaken for Dr Ludwig. Well folks, that’s all today, I need to do some meditation and mindfulness.

Only on day 3 and I am already the lightest Ive been in years!!! My weight had stopped coming off and I always struggle with motivation. I feel like I was a prisoner to my cravings for so long and actually the small adjustment to meals (less/no carbs more healthy fats) helps me feel fuller for longer. Ive also been scared of hunger so I should eat every 90 mins all day to keep hunger at bay. Ive been trying to loose for so long but not wanting to reduce my calorie intake because I was worried about ‘starvation mode’! There is so much bad advice out there its hard to navigate, I finally feel in control of my body. So are time having porridge with grated apple for breakfast, portobello mushrooms with cheese, pine nuts and salad at lunch then a healthy fry up for dinner. I love it!!

God morning all!
Oh yes, had a long nights sleep, will post a link on sleep & wheigt in Take a look at this!-thread.
What a delicious meal Verano! I beleve it’s important to sometimes celebrate life with a extra ordinary food treat and it looks as you maneged the 3C very well!
Adding “care” is brilliant Verano! So now we have consciousness care and consistency, 3C. Thank you and good luck with the paddling! You’r doing great in so many ways. How long have you been BSD?
Well done Björn! Its very encouraging to se mainteners doing well. Thaks for bringing in hope!
Graham that video was hilarious! Thru the years I’ve noticed that me and my OH react very different. Hi loves suger. I love fat. After eating same things in a meal we have totaly different respons. Fortunate we have no diabetes but must keep track of food to keep fit. That is hi is almost fit with 10 kg ower wheigt, I have 20. So I KOKO, keep on keeping on.
Tully and Skinny to be, welcome “home”! Bet you are eager to get back up in the wagon! Have a brave new start!
Congrats Chimp Tamer for other-than-wheigt-loss achievements! Better mood, less stress can help greatly for reaching wheigt goals! It was like that for me! Anyway, I will never turn a simple machine to “the holy scale” and let it rule my entire life. 😉
Have the best day ever all!

Hi everyone. I started the plan January 2016 and lost 2 and a half stone – felt great ! Since then my knee arthritis has got worse as has my mobility. Eventually resulting in knee replacement three months ago. As a result over that two year period I have put back on a stone that I need to lose. Have now started walking more and feel it’s time to get back on the 800 wagon, so pleased to see others here and realise I’m not the only one who has fallen off! I have been doing the diet for two days and remember how good it felt having better cleaner food I am now eating once more. Although I never really fully ‘carbed out ‘ I did allow them to slip back in, along with a regular wine intake. It’s interesting that cutting carbs out can make you feel so much better so quickly. Here we go again, we have succeeded before and will do it once more !
-
I’m starting again as well. On Week 1 Day 2. However I’ve not been anywhere as good as you all as I have started the Fast 800 a few times and have never managed to go the full way. I have PCOS and I’m assuming insulin resistance and have a risk at developing diabetes (which also runs in the family). I did very well a year ago with gym and food however, I’ve put on 6kg (13-14 pounds) since September last year and now weigh a massive 77kg so a small girl (5’3) and i know i probably have gained muscles as well but definitely bigger around my stomach than before.
I am so determined to lose 8-10kg in the next 8 weeks. But have always lost motivation half way through when I’m not losing weight at all. Also have started to take apple cider vinegar diluted in water with half a lemon, cayenne pepper and ginger powder and apparently that is know to cut fat and increase metabolism so watch the space. I’m doing at least 30mins walk a day if not more.
Hoping to weigh myself once a week. I do love coming here and reading all the inspiring stories. We can do this! -
MaggieB – thanks. Luckily alcohol has never been one of my weaknesses so happily toasting him with water. I’m really proud of him, yes in getting the job, but more for the sustained effort and ‘never giving up’ approach he’s taken to his job search over the last year.
Allie – he is indeed – it’s fascinating isn’t it. We visited quite a few sites in the Dordogne – it was the reason we chose that part of France to holiday that year – and it’s so magical to see those images – fantastic.
One of the favourite things hanging on our walls is a copy of Picasso’s Dove of Peace – the simplest of line drawings – which for some reason moves me in the same way. In fact thinking about that is my positive for the day. -
Good morning good people,
Skinny to be is back from 2.5 weeks holidays too 🙂
Eating icecream and other stuff (although not so much booze) I also kept the odd fasting day (my Thursdays were still on).
I think, based on the trousers fitting I may have gone about 2kgs up.
I am not weighing myself on this week yet as I’m trying to get into the routine slowly but surely (and honestly, there are the odd crackers that travel down my gob that I’m trying to slowly eliminate and avoid) so will know more next week.
Altough, it’s my birthday on Monday so anything goes, really at this rate.I made my peace I will NOT fit into my beautiful skirt. But in all honesty, I will enjoy turning 40 and my first massive achievement of being 40 will be when I’m skinny and fitting in that skirt. I need to have something to look forward to. Let’s imagine if I was skinny, beautiful, loaded and miserable with no real target to look forward to. that would be a boring life, wouldn’t it? I wouldn’t have your friendship and support.
So here I am. A rounder but happier me who is trying to be enter the next decade and make it a priority to be healthy and beautiful and …. getting in that skirt :-).Will catch up later as am trying to do some work at work – LOOOOOL
all my love,
Skinny to be

Thanks for kind words and for the link. Some bey quick maths on that site reckons that 2000cals would still lead to weight loss so I’m feeling a bit happier about that!
Yes the caffeine withdrawal is because I drink my coffee with sugar and my 8-10 cups a day norm means that is totally out of the question! Not really missing the carbs, although I do have some potatoes ready for harvest in the garden and so I might have to enjoy 1 or 2 of them a week just so they don’t go to waste!
Excited about what the rest of the week brings! -

So, I’ve decide to join in this 4-week challenge after all – wasn’t going to originally. I’m at my target weight, bgls are good etc but I can just sense I’m at risk of slipping back if I’m not careful. My goals for this month are
To re-establish my 10,000 daily step target – (I’m moving way more than when I started but inconsistent recently)
To re-establish my physical activity routine (I’ve not stopped exercising/gym, but again after being transferred out of an exercise on referral programme and recent changes at the gym I’ve not really managed to settle into a new routine). As someone with type II diabetes, (and other markers of metabolic syndrome) this way of living has worked fantastically well. I’m acutely aware I’ve had an opportunity to reverse diabetes that other people (including some older members of my family) never had.
I’m not going to bugger it up now!
Go well everyone

on 13 Jun 2018 at 09:50 in Fast 800That’s tough Vulcan, going through carb AND caffeine withdrawal. Have you calculated your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) https://tdeecalculator.net – it gives you some numbers to work with. More information always helps.
Looks like you’re heading for a great weekend, enjoy it! The great thing now is that restaurants are so much more amenable to giving us what we want, subbing salads for carbs and so on; as for breakfast, indulgent breakfasts are right on plan.
Stick with it, the headaches will go. Just keep well hydrated.

Late report-in – sorry. Meant to do it yesterday evening but fell asleep instead.
Well done to everyone – there have been some great reports, especially weight losses. But wanted to give a shout out in particular to JGwen – what an amazing loss in inches – ‘well done that woman’. Fascinating info on l-carnitine – I’d never heard of it until you mentioned it.
At the beginning of this challenge I was 9st 4lb – up from 9st 0.5lb when I went into maintenance in May. Over this challenge, I’ve lost 4 lbs so I’m at my goal of 9st. I’ve dipped up and down a little (was 8st 13.5 lb on Monday morning – wow) but happy to stick to 9st for now while I stabilise myself. My cooking is just a work in progress – what can I say. My physical activity goal has taken a bit of a dip – consistency-wise – so I need to concentrate on that.
Sleekly – that is a wonderful observation – ‘whether it’s physical or emotional or both, we’re all stepping into another frame, aren’t we?’ – I think I’ve stepped into a different frame, I just need to recognise it’s mine!
nb – just struck me – there’s a third frame – psychological!Kazzee – a special thanks for setting up and your support on this 4 week challenge – it’s been fantastic!

Hello lovely people!
So Ive been away from the forum for about 10 days and I’m now back from my first holiday! Got another coming up in July! I went up a LOT (around 6 lbs!) But please to say I am nearly back to where I was 10 days ago. Turns out hotels and eating out evety day in foreign countries (and lets be honest boozing) make me whoosh up the way! Just got 1.5 lbs to go and then I’m onto yet another new weight which Ill achieve this week. Ill catch up properly with posts later but great to see you are all doing well doing and hello to the new faces!
KOKO, Much Love, Tully xx 🙂 -
Morning all. Still on track which is good. Weight static for past 3 days after losing loads in the first week but I am learning all about the ‘woosh’ effect and hoping it applies to me! I MUST be creating a calorie deficit so one day the scales will catch up. I hope.
I feel much more stable in mood since going low carb. Just less frustrated and tense. Which is great! Have a good day everyone. x -
Lovely to see so many old and new ‘faces’ on this thread. Pleased that you are happy with your recent blood results sunshine, I know waiting for them is always an anxious time for you. And V, good to see you here again and I’m looking forward to your positives. Love your simple positives Allie. Welcome to all those new to the thread, hope you will find it uplifting and thought provoking when things are getting a bit gloomy.
Couple of my own positives:
1) visited some ruins yesterday at Iasos to take some photos and it was just me and one young hefer wandering the site. So calm and peaceful.
2) enjoyed simple meal of calamari, prawns and salad with OH by the waterside, watching the small fishes swimming by the dockside.
3) have arranged to chat with youngest grand daughter tomorrow, so something lovely to looking forward to. -

on 13 Jun 2018 at 08:05 in BSD Way of LifeHi Elaar, welcome to the forum and a great big well done to your OH for being the engine behind his medical miracle. I think you are doing the right thing in looking towards alternatives to the ‘white stuff’ going forward. MM has said that increasing the fibre in carb sources slows down the process of turning it into sugar and allows the body more time to process it correctly, so if you keep any portions small, and irregular, and as suggested test blood sugar and keep a record of adverse reactions to particular foods, there shouldn’t be an issue reintroducing some healthy carbs.
Just bear in mind that there is no such thing as an essential carb, and nutrition low carb style is thoroughly sustainable long term, but I agree some variety in what we eat is desirable as we enter maintenance.
As I was not diabetic I have reintroduced the full spectrum of carbs including white stuff to my own diet, but am busy tracking my own ‘problem’ foods just on feel so I know what to avoid in the future.
-
Good morning. I hope that DAY 1 brought you all a little closer to your goals. Just two more days of ‘paddling’ for me then I’ll be off ‘swimming’ like mad to reach my goal. I will also catch up with some of the recommendations on ‘Take a look at this’ . S-g I know you have recently watched a video about sugar can you point me towards it please I can’t find a reference.
Have a good day! -

on 13 Jun 2018 at 07:24 in Fast 800Morning all,
Day 3
So tough day yesterday 😕
The two day headache (I guess from caffeine withdrawal) continued unabbated.
I missed my lunchtime phys session I had promised myself as I got stuck in the office.
Buckled to the temption of an extra portion of evening meal as I was hungry/grumpy/it was scrummy!! (It was the skinny lasagne from the recipe book – but surely as its aubergine skinny moussaka would be more accurate?)
However on the positive
It was still only 1000cal for the day with zero nasty white carbs.
My girlfriend and I went for a lovely 6km evening walk along the coastal marshes by us.
My headache seems to have gone for now…We have a couple of “bad” days on the horizon as I’m meeting up with my boys for the first time in months on Sunday for a Father’s Day brunch, then later my girlfriend and I are heading out for an overnight stay in London to watch a concert Sunday evening.
We have already promised ourselves a sinful breakfast on Monday and have agreed that we will be even more naughty and allow ourselves some wine or gin Sunday evening.
So all in all I realise there’s no way I’m going to drop the 7kg needed to get below the 100kg I wanted. But although the wagon is wobbling, it’s not falling off conpletely yet. -

I cook a trayful at a time and put it straight in lunchboxes then add a protein. It’s a little high in carbs (20g for half a pack that )if you’re going full bsd but I’m sticking to youghurt and raspberries at night and black coffee. It’s more mediterranean than bsd but you could take some of the cherry tomatoes out xx

BlackSpot do you know I had never even thought of frying salad…that’s opened up a whole new world for me… I was just thinking what else can I do with salad 😂
Hedwig6 I’m also an introvert, so your suggestions (apart from running…I’m too lazy!) sound great…especially writing everything down. I have that same thought process after having dealt with everyone all day, by the time my daughter is finally asleep that’s when my cravings and need to relax is highest. SueBlue I hadn’t even thought of herbal teas that’s a great substitute! I hope that tea and my “anger diary” will help!
Thanks again everyone for the support and lets keep going! -

on 13 Jun 2018 at 02:35 in Fast 800Hi everyone, finally posting in here after lurking for a while. I started the BSD two weeks ago – I did one week as a experiment to see if I could hack it before diving in (and finally weighing myself after a long time), so calling today my official Day Three.
I’m 79kg and hoping to get down to 65kg – preferably under 70kg for my 30th birthday in two months.
The low-carb brain fog and headaches have set in, and I have a week of work events at night, but I’m pretty determined and have prepped all my food for the week to try and combat temptation.
Once I get through this week, I’m going to try and refine my macros + implement the BSD exercise tips. Looking forward to reading all of your trips and tricks! -

on 13 Jun 2018 at 02:20 in Fast 800Mrs Thompson, I am also a total eat-to-relieve-stress-er. My nemesis is eating after the kids are in bed, because I’ve been up and dealing with people and STUFF since 5 am, and all I want is bread with tons of butter and some internet to surf with it.
I think you should go easy on yourself for irritability for a while, at least. It’s totally okay to be irritable and angry, and people will deal with it and adjust for a while, and you definitely don’t need to feel bad about it. Feel it! :).
Also, maybe find some other substitutes like:
– writing a really irritated letter or journal entry that no one ever sees
– going for a brisk walk
– reading a hilarious or uplifting book
– watching a stupid cat video, or the equivalentI find that running helps me, and books and time to myself where I don’t have to deal with anyone. I am a much happier person to live with (including living with myself), when I get these three things.
Good luck!
-hedwig6
P.S. I realized all my activities are solitary introvert ones, because that is what I am. Maybe someone else can suggest social extrovert ones – they all sound stressful to me so I can’t tell what will be helpful!

Oh Kazzi, I really enjoy the visualization of the grand totals for fat lost on each of these challenges! Thank you

on 12 Jun 2018 at 23:11 in Fast 800Hi all, I’m back for another challenge. I just need to stay focussed as during the last one I had up and down weeks.
I go back to work in just under 3 weeks so would love to use this time to get back on track.
I batched cooked some BSD meals on the weekend and they are in the freezer.
My goal is to lose 3.5kg which will take me down into the next BMI bracket (currently obese and aiming for overweight).
Mrs Thompson – regarding the sweet cravings – a cup of fruit tea may help in the evenings, there are some delicious flavours, my favourite is raspberry & boysenberry, they are only 1 or 2 calories per cup. When I really feel
Like chocolate I have a square of 85% dark chocolate, it’s so rich that one square is enough. -

on 12 Jun 2018 at 22:59 in Starting the BSDSunnysandy – may I suggest a dessert of “almost ice cream”, our favourite BSD-friendly pudding. Use frozen mixed berries, or frozen raspberries. Add 1 part of berries to about 2 parts Greek yogurt in a blender, blitz until mixed and eat immediately, it will melt very quickly. You can play about with proportions to suit yourself and your daughter. I hope you will enjoy it. We also often have berries and cream for pudding.
Also, may I suggest clearing all the bread and other carbs into your freezer or bin!
Best wishes xx -
Well done all and thanks Kazz for keeping this thread going.
I’ve been MIA the last few weeks, am on leave from work and have lots going on at home, have been away etc. While I haven’t been counting calories I’ve pretty much been sticking to on plan foods, with a few glasses of wine thrown in!
I did manage to lose a total of 1.6kg, so over 3lbs across the challenge weeks.
See you all in the next challenge thread 🙂 -
Haha, Maggie! We live with a pair of siamese. Don’t underestimate their brain case! They routinely outwit
us, and are quite capable of hanging off of doorknobs and opening doors, and will not tolerate being confined
or ignored. Highly intuitive too! 🙂 🙂 🙂 -

Nice to meet you. Are you really seeing a shift in the CPD doctors are being given on nutrition? It would be such good news to know that’s happening!

Hi sorry I’ve not posted in a while. The posts on this thread still bring a smile to my face. Yes I’ve had/have lots of positives and promise I will get back to posting later in the week, but, in the meantime, good to hear all your positives!

You are welcome to join us Graham but please don’t link any freely given information to any program that isn’t free. That is tantamount to advertising which isn’t welcome here.

on 12 Jun 2018 at 21:55 in Fast 800Hi Maggie
So I’m not diabetic or pre.. I’ve been a huge Michael Mosley fan since watching the original Eat, Fat and Live Longer (Horizon) programme which literally changed my life at the time (I lost 10kg over 12 months). My focus now is on keeping my insulin “low and slow” and my reducing my visceral fat (Like Michael I’m a TOFI.. thin outside, fat inside) -

on 12 Jun 2018 at 21:52 in Fast 800Hi folks. Had a fairly good day. I’ve been eating salad with very fried till its crunchy 8%fat pork mince that was rammed with garlic, Chinese 5 spice, chilli & soy sauce. And the dressing was more soy with lemon juice pepper.
About 300kc
Tea was… More Salad! Minted feta and peas on loads of green salad. 500 kc. Very tasty.
Trying to keep eating in the 16 hours off 8 hour feeding window. Didn’t quite manage that due to a late finish at work.
As a paramedic I can understand how the bad ‘eat carbs’ advice for years is very upsetting with what we know now. But for a long time, that was the ‘truth’. The Dr’s we see are trained and told what’s what by specialists. We are in the middle of a huge sea change for the better. So Thanks to the rule breakers who thought out of the box & to Michael Mosley for pushing the information out against what was excepted wisdom in the medical profession.
Good luck everyone for the rest of the 4 weeks! It’s going to take me right up to my birthday. & I think I might have a bit of a drink then… -
Hi Graham – are you joining us on the one week challenge? It really helps us get to know each other and share our hopes and objectives. It’ll be nice to see you joining with us 🙂

Well done Verano- I can certainly forgive you for eating a piece of sourdough and olive oil !

My big takeaway from Clever Guts was that there are the same number of neurons in the gut as a cat’s brain! I feel quite fondly towards them 😄
-
Its all about the microbiome! The bugs in our gut are a (the?) major determinant of how we react to food combinations. Its far more complex than carb counting and no two people are alike. There’s a simple explanation here:

on 12 Jun 2018 at 21:11 in Fast 800Hi Peeps: has anyone been playing with the Freestyle Libre device? Its a continuous blood sugar monitoring device and the NHS only supplies it for those with poorly controlled insulin dependent people with type1 diabetes. But I think that’s missing the point. We know that there are around 4 million adults with type2 diabetes and at least 12 million with pre-diabetes. Now, despite what you may have been told, the insulin response to foods is incredibly individual. So if you know which foods to avoid and which to enjoy its a question of tweaking what you eat rather than “dieting” (for me the word diet means being miserable, hungry and feeling deprived- and I can’t sustain it in the long term. But now I have the device I can see immediately which foods or food combinations spike my glucose and avoid them. Now, think how hard it can be on your fast day. If you can avoid those foods that spike glucose, which also spike insulin and make you hungry think of the benefits. It also means less visceral fat thereby reducing the risks of all those dread diseases: cancer; metabolic syndrome; hypertension; cardiovascular disease; dementia etc. Not bad eh? More here:

Hi Zoomers! Well my reckoning for our weekly loss this week is 9.75 lbs. without going through the last 4 weeks posts, collectively we’ve lost approx 80 lbs between us and several inches which is pretty fantastic! So I’m signing off from this thread now and will see you all on the next 4 week challenge thread. Onwards and downwards Zoomers! 😁 xxx
