SueBlue very best wishes for your appointment on Friday I hope the news is good x

I’ve finished my first 8 week cycle (but have been awol for the last couple of weeks). I’ve lost a stone and several cms from waist and hips, but I’ve got around another 30 – 40lbs to shift. I’m starting a new 8 weeks today and am going to be much stricter – the odd wine, milk chocolate and crisps related episodes have featured but I’m going to do my best to avoid it this time round. I’m inspired by the fabulous losses and the overall determination of posters to dust down and get back on course when life gets in the way.

Well done everyone still here and carrying on and congratulations to those who’ve got where they need to be. Off to catch up on some other threads now.

Will be thinking of you on Friday Sue and keeping everything crossed for you. Looking good though as you have got through 2 years. I have a nephew, just 6 weeks past major surgery to remove a very large tumour – a very worrying time. Looking good for him also though. Think you were probably due a bit of a blast yesterday with the BSD, it is going to happen from time to time and we just have to fit it in or go round it somehow, ‘specially if we’re doing this long term. I did very well at the dinner last night and lunch today, then blew it with a spoonful of home made rice pudding – it was worth it though, but now wondering what I can nibble on. Fortunately I have nothing in the house right now.

Hey, SueBlue – good luck on Friday. I will be thinking of you and living every moment with you, as the same thing happened to me. Diagnosed with lymphoma in 2011, and went into remission in 2012. Initially, my apps were every 3 months, then every six months, now annually. At my last appt, last summer, my consultant said that I am “effectively cured”, as like you, they said it was highly unlikely to return after 2 years in the clear. But one last appt this year to make my 5 years in full remission, then signed off. πŸ™‚

I’m sure everything will be fine, and you will certainly deserve your celebration lunch. Enjoy – I’ll be thinking of you. x

K8 – really hope all continues to go well for your nephew too. Such a worrying time, but fingers crossed.

Hi everyone, Sue Good Luck for Friday.
Many congrats to all that have reached their goal and well done too if ,like me, you still on the road. End of week 8 for me was yesterday. I haven’t lost massive amounts – 8 lbs in all. I still have 42 but I am still pleased as I haven’t been near this weight since before I was pregnant with my youngest – 23 years ago. Although it’s not a massive weight loss, my FBS has normalised so no need for meds. I feel much better – people have commented on my weight loss and I’ve dropped sizes so it’s made a difference.
This is a woe I can live with so I shall be continuing with Med but not 800. I had a bite of scone today and it just did not taste the same so I left it. Unheard of before I started this.
I shall be weighing every 2 or 3 weeks and following this thread to see what everyone is doing. Onward and downward everyone.

Saw my doctor on Monday and she is very pleased with my progress.
Am now starting the sixth week of the diet.
    Have lost 15 pounds – from 13st 9 to 12st8.
Have reduced insulin from 36units to 12.
Glucose levels steady, mainly between 5 and 8.
My visceral fat level is at 13, which is within desirable range (just)

My ultimate goal is to reach 12 stone and come off insulin injections.
Any advice for my last 2 weeks?

Hi Everyone Ebs here have been off the diet for 2 weeks now, but still sticking to no rice, pasta, potatoes, bread/cakes/biscuits. Am still following the cookbook as I love the food but have increased the portion size, every evening I have a small bowl of frozen berries and full fat yogurt. Weight is now stable, the hardest thing is to maintain the loss and not to be tempted. One strange thing I have noticed is that I no longer crave sweets or chocolate, I had a bunch of black grapes last Friday and had to leave them as they were so sweet and set my teeth on edge. I am off to New South Wales to my granddaughter’s christening in a couple of weeks where there will be plenty of food, so will see how I manage at a party. Will sign in every now and find out how everyone is going, keep up the good work and very, very soon you will have achieved your goal.

So that’s it. Final weigh in this morning.
    Eight weeks ago I was 15st 1lb with a waist of 42ins
Today I am 13st 7lb and my waist is 35ins
    I reckon that’s a success!
I’m not following this diet because of any specific health problems, more as a preventive measure. I really needed to get my weight under control for good, otherwise there may well have been something to worry about.
Ideally I need to get to around or just below 12st (I’m quite tall and that would put me into the ‘acceptable’ range), so the journey isn’t over but has a head start.
I’m sitting here with my breakfast Greek yoghurt and berries and can’t imagine going back to cereal. I really think my taste buds have changed. I was the biggest chocoholic but haven’t even had the urge to touch it.
Of course now I’ve got to keep going so I’ll have a few weeks of 5:2 to see how that suits.
Continued good wishes to the January Starters and thank you all for the advice, ideas and support

Your post struck a cord with me as I weigh 15.1 today, have a bigger waist than your start waist, and I am, again, starting an 8 week attempt at the BSD.
If I could achieve half of your success I will be pleased as I have already lost 2 stone, am a slow loser and have metabolic syndrome.
    Good luck with your 5:2.

Well done to all the January starters who have finished and done well. It’s good to hear all your news. Please keep popping back to update us. I started 21 January so I haven’t finished my first 8 weeks yet, but with such a long way to go I’m doing at least another two probably three rounds.

I know there are a few of us who will be continuing with another 8 weeks, although some are taking a break first. I just wondered are we continuing to use this thread for our posts ? Or starting a new one ? I assumed we would use this one, but suddenly thought I would ask. I don’t want to “lose” you all !

Ebs thanks for telling us about your new regime, it’s really helpful to know. Your Christening made me smile. I have been to two recent functions with buffets. The first one taught me a lesson, always take some food with you ! The table was a sea of carbs with nothing at all I could eat. I was starving ! The second one, I was prepared with a lunch pack of my own. Sandwiches, quiche, sausage rolls, vol au vents, crisps, pizza slices Aah ! Not even a celery stick to munch on !

I also attend a music group once a week where we are required to buy a meal from the host cafe. Often the meals the menu are no good to me, so I have started to ask for a salad with some form of meat or fish. Last week I received a plate with a lettuce leaf, half a tomato, some cucumber and a tin of tuna tipped onto the plate. Β£10. Unfortunately the catering world needs to catch up with low carb !

I agree Seasidenana about the catering world needing to catch up – it’s when I’m out and about on the weekend that I find it harder to stick to BSD.
I went to a lovely cafe for lunch today with a colleague. There was a great range of salads and healthy foods. My colleague had some quiche and salad, and I explained to the staff member that I was looking for some protein to have with salad instead. She offered to make me either grilled chicken or steak. I had the grilled chicken with a warm autumn roast vegetable salad, and I asked for dressing (pesto) on the side. It was delicious πŸ™‚ will be going back there again!

But I don’t mind moving to another thread either πŸ™‚

Ebs – thanks for the update and good to hear you are doing well.

Cathy – well done on your weight (and inch) loss and congratulations on reaching the end of the 8 weeks!

I started on 16th Jan, so my 8 weeks will be up on Monday. I am away at the moment though, so won’t be able to do my 8 week weigh in until Wednesday but, whatever the scales say, I intend going straight on to another 8 week round, so I think it is a good idea to carry on with this thread, so that we can all track our journeys from the start – as others have done before us, as SueBlue so rightly points out.

So good to hear everyone’s results – how many of us are planning on starting another round of BSD800 straight away, I wonder?

I am staying with friends at the moment who have been very understanding and supportive of BSD and on Saturday they are hosting a bit of a party for me to catch up with several old friends. Bless them, they have changed their intended buffet menu to Italian Antipasti, which we will shop for together on Friday, and will include things like parma ham, salami and other similar meats, lots of fish including anchovies, sardines, fresh tuna and smoked salmon, cheeses, roasted Mediterranean vegetables, artichokes, olives etc and, of course, lots of salads. Obviously there will be things like bruschetta and delicious breads too (focaccia is my all time favourite) but they will be easily avoided without anyone noticing. Now that is what I call friendship!

I may go over on calories, but at least I will be BSD friendly πŸ™‚ So all I will really have to worry about is the wine!!!

We are, however, out for dinner this evening, and I have no idea how BSD friendly the restaurant it, so fingers crossed! And wine will certainly be involved!! Just hope that this week away will not result in the scales showing an increase on my final weigh in.

Hi everyone, good to hear all your news! I’ve finished my first 8 weeks, had a bit of a breather and am now into my second 8 weeks. Am planning to stay on this forum unless you all decamp somewhere else!

Have lost 15lb so far and want to lose at least the same again. Like many have said, this way of eating is becoming a way of life and I’m kind of getting used to it. I have the odd day when I slip off the wagon a bit – wine being my main weakness – but on the whole I’m sticking to it and making steady progress.

Sue hope all goes well tomorrow and enjoy your celebration lunch! I think we all need days when we can relax a little and treat ourselves and you so deserve it tomorrow πŸ™‚ But the funny thing is I’m now viewing”treating myself” very differently than before! Now a treat day tends to be sticking to around the basic 800 calories plus maybe a glass or two of wine, whereas before my normal every day diet – not even as a special treat — would have been way too many calories: bread, cake, potatoes and far too much wine . No wonder the weight was just starting to pile on! But I now have no desire to overeat or gorge on carbs – my body seems to have retrained my brain to enjoy moderate eating and healthy food! Like you Ebs I love the food in the book and it’s stuff I would want to eat anyway even without the diet.

Totally agree with what others have said about how difficult it can be to eat out. So far I’ve managed to have reasonably healthy options – Mediterranean if not totally BSD – when eating out or picking up fast food, but it’s not always easy. I don’t eat red meat either so that can make it even more tricky to find something that works! What amazing friends you have Theodora πŸ™‚

Well done sperando for progress so far! It sounds like you just need to keep doing whatever you’re doing as it’s obviously working! It’s probably worth upping your exercise a little bit too if you can, now your body is used to the lower calorie intake. And don’t forget to drink loads of water, i seem to need more the longer I go on with the diet.

Keep well everyone and look forward to hearing all your news on here.

    Hi to all,

I have been a bit quiet on the posting front but enjoy reading everyones experiences and successes. I have just finished week 6 and have lost 8.2kg (18lb) more than happy with this and well on my way to my 10kg target before I go to Fiji in April ( I have a couple of extra weeks after the 8 weeks are up before I go, phew)
As many have said, I am now eating like this is my normal diet and do not miss chocolate, sugar, chocolate, wine, chocolate as much as I thought I would. Do miss toast for breakfast though.
    Have a good weekend.

Well, I am home from our dinner out – have to admit it was delicious. I managed to stick with BSD principles (apart from wine) and have now logged what I ate this evening, albeit estimated as I am not privy to exact recipes that restaurants use.

So, as a starter I had grilled halloumi cheese served with pickled veg (turned out to be pickled red and yellow peppers – totally delicious) Main course was a starter portion of moules mariniere (o/h ate the scrummy bread it was served with). While everyone else enjoyed a pud, for me this indulgence was followed by a very strong double espresso – so only myself to blame if I don’t sleep tonight! This feast was, of course, accompanied by a really scrummy bottle of red wine!

By my calculations, whilst I went way over on calories (estimate 1055 for the day) I managed to restrict my carbs to 33.9g which is way over my average (trying to keep it around 25g) but hopefully not totally disastrous. My only worry was just how much I enjoyed the red wine – had been hoping that, having not touched a drop in weeks, my body would reject it. Sadly no – my body lapped it up and would happily have accommodated more. Hey ho, maybe I am an alcoholic in the making!!!!

Tomorrow I will try to be really strict again, but then on Saturday I have a party to contend with. Wish me luck everyone, really hoping to return home on Tuesday to, if not a loss, then at least a static weight reading. πŸ™‚

Hi All, I have a confession, it’s all gone a bit off piste in teh last few days, since the weekend really, I suppose I was at the end of 8 weeks, the weight loss had completely slowed (probably because my weekend indulgences were increasing) so without the continuing downwards I lost the inclination to stick with it!!

so I have gained 2 pounds back of the 21 I had lost, I seem to be fine sticking to it all day, but as soon as I get home from work it all goes awry.

Unlike many of you, the cravings for bad stuff has never really gone away (4 pieces of homemade chocolate tiffin last night and half a bottle of prosecco *eeekkk* but I was using it up, so it stopped tempting me!)

so I have decided to be kind to myself and get back properly strict, counting and weighing from Monday, have eaten on plan today, and have made a decision to go and do some retail therapy later after I deliver the chidlren to their dad, rather than go and find a friend to drink with on a friday night!

I am wearing a dress today my Mum made me a while ago which has alwasy been too snug, but now looks great, so there is still the progress I have made, I just need to get to goal and not give up halfway through!

Happy weekends all of you x

Back from my litttle break in Harrogate. Sadly had a fall whilst in the Turkish Baths yesterday spraining both ankles so didn’t manage to get the steps i I had hoped to!! On Wednesday I managed 9,928 but yesterday only approximately 2,000 before falling and I ended up lying down in the hotel room and unable to walk. On the plus side it meant I didn’t go to Betty’s Tea Rooms! Managed to eat fairly BSD friendly whilst away. Had poached eggs and spinach for lunch one day, had a Turkish meal , feta and olives to start and a halloumi casserole (didn’t eat the potatoes or rice) and had a curry (no rice). Breakfasts were easy- egg, veggie sausage and mushrooms. No toast and no orange juice just water. I am starting again now for another eight weeks and have decided not to get weighed until next Saturday as I don’t want to see what damage my few days away may have done. I am hoping to lose about 10 lb over the next eight weeks. My summer holiday in Turkey is in June and I am feeling very motivated and focused to continue on my weight loss journey. Good luck to everyone in the January Group who is continuing to phase 2 and congratulations to anyone in the January Group who has reached their goal.

Hi everyone Ebs again just reading through the threads, I think its good to stick with the January starters as its great to keep each other motivated, maintenance is the hardest thing, I have been on so many diets in the past, achieved my goal then over a few weeks, months put it all back on again. The support from others is imperative this makes a diet work if we keep encouraging one another. I went out to Junction Grill at the Casino in Perth last night, nearly everything was deep fried, massive burgers, I dont eat red meat, loads of chips, mashed potato with hardly a vegetable in sight. So I asked the waiter if I could have the catch of the day which was barramundi with a garlic prawn skewer and salad with no dressing and I had a small glass of red wine, delicious, I felt very proud of myself resisting the chips. Everyone is doing so well, just stick with it, its an amazing diet, a diet for life, when you find that dress in the back of the wardrobe which you couldnt send to the charity shop as you loved it so much and havent been able to fit into it for 10 years, you then try it on and it fits, you then feel a million dollars and think its all worth it.

    Hi everyone,
Congratulations on all the good news, and especially to those who have had a lapse and picked themselves back up. I find that very inspiring. It’s easier for me to just stick to it. I’m afraid that if I lapse that will be it! Hope your news is good, SueBlue, been thinking of you. Not good news about sprained ankles Cathy – that must have been a spectacular fall to do both. Hope you feel better soon. Congrats too on resisting chips, Ebs. They are my downfall too – all the other carbs I can do without pretty easily but hot chips….drool! I have decided to raise my standards and only eat the best chips when they are available. In fact, that’s a strategy that has really helped me so far – I look at food and think “Is it good enough to use calories on?”. Most of the things I ate (thoughtlessly) before this WOE were just cheap crap. Now I’m picky!
My 8 weeks are up tomorrow. Made it through my birthday (1000 calories that day). I’ve lost a bit over 12kgs (not sure what that is in pounds) but, aside from the BSL and blood pressure improvements, the best thing is that today I could fit my wedding and engagement rings back on. I’m am so very happy about that.
I will continue for another 6 weeks until we go overseas and then try and stick to Mediterranean while we are away.
Love reading everyone’s posts – I feel like you are family.
    Hugs to you all xxx

apart from the odd glass of red slipping in now and then. πŸ˜‰

Regardless of what the scales say, I shall be carrying straight on to a 2nd round of BSD800 to attempt to reach my goal, so it will be nice to have your company along the way, and that of anyone else embarking on another round.

Thank you Michael for all your tireless nutritional medical research in this area. Your books, programmes and talks have brought us together across the world to impower us to take control of our eating and good health.
The forums are such a terrific support.

I should probably have said this in another thread but it goes well here too.

So pleased to read SueBlue that you’ve had the best news from your specialist. Enjoy your celebratory lunch whenever you get to have it!

I’ve been in Vietnam for over 2 weeks on holidays and I am really cross with myself that I couldn’t keep to the BSD way of eating!!! I’ve put on weight but not as much as I had thought. I got carried away with the Pho and the delicious breads and pastries – the French influence in the bakery area is everywhere and I wasn’t strong enough to avoid. I decided if I am going to have I’m going to enjoy every morsel! Brie and all the soft French cheeses (which are my downfall) were wonderful and were there every day at breakfast buffet!

But unlike other diets from the past – I actually was looking forward to going back strictly on the BSD and I feel better even after just 2 days!!

Very best wishes to all of you and great weight losses. I will be doing at least another 2 x 8 weeks at the end of this first round too so it’s good to know there are quite a few of us doing the same!!

I did go out for lunch today with my MIL and daughters, we go out every few months for lunch and some shopping. I had a delicious Greek salad and asked for the dressing on the side.
I’ve eaten out a few times this week, but apart from my toasted cheese sandwich yesterday it’s all been pretty BSD friendly.
I’m going to do my final weigh in tomorrow morning, but it looks like it’s going to be 6kg (13lb?). I’ve lost 8cm off my bust and hips and 6cm off my waist, so really happy with the result. I realise I could have lost more by strictly keeping to 800 cals per day, but I’m happy with the slow and steady loss and I know I can stick to it long term if I have a bit of flexibility. I’m averaging 800-850 calories 4-5 days a week and 900-1100 2-3 days a week. I haven’t really been counting carbs. Most days it’s about 60-80 but then included in that is usually 20g fibre, so net carbs sort of around 50g
I calculated that at this rate I’ll need another 2 lots of 8 weeks to get down to the weight I’ve previously been comfortable and healthy at and then another one after that to be able to get to within my BMI range.
I’m going to have a day off tomorrow (well sort of, will still be BSD foods), and then “officially” start Round 2 on Monday.

Hi everyone, just catching up on all your progress. Really well done to you all. To those experiencing the ‘wagon’ scenario I empathise.

I’ve been off radar for a few weeks. Not massively fallen off the wagon (with one exception!) but a frequent lapse in judgment in terms of food choices. So not as far on as I would have hoped. But, it’s been a lesson. Still 18lb down since January which I’m happy with. I put on 4lb during that time but have dropped it again.

I’m doing a 2nd round of 8 weeks too and happy to keep in the with forum as we continue our journeys.

Seeing friends for lunch today who I’ve not seen since pre-BSD so will be interested to see if they notice any change. It will be a culinary minefield though and plenty of wine, so a good test of my resolve!

    Onwards and upwards everyone,

We all have days when it doesn’t come together for whatever reason – often because we’re having to fit in with other peoples’ plans – that’s just life: definitely not worth beating yourself up about. Just get back on board and the downward trend will recommence I’m sure.

To me that’s the big difference with this diet: with others I have tried before and have not been enjoying it comes as a kind of relief when I’ve blown it, an excuse to pack it in altogether! But what I’m finding with the BSD is that because it’s linked to the more achievable ongoing Mediterranean way of eating, I am viewing it as my new way of eating rather than just a short term diet if that makes sense? So if I have a bad day (or two or three!) it’s not the end of the diet full stop, just a slight diversion from the longer term journey. BSD is the diet that welcomes you back with open arms rather than punishes you for being naughty πŸ™‚

I’m saying all that from the heart because I do have many days when I don’t quite make the grade but am in it for the long term. I’m delighted this morning to have finally made it to 11 stone – started at around 12 stone 2 and have bee n desperate to reach this milestone but plateauing for a while now, hovering tantalisingly around 11 stone 2 for seemingly ages. And the funny thing is – as others have said – that the weight loss does not necessarily correlate to how good you have been the day or two before! I weight myself daily and there have been days when I’ve been really strict and well under 800 calories the day before and expect to see progress on the scales the net day but nothing – or worse, even a slight increase! Then others when the odd glass of wine has somehow snuck in the day before and yet another pound has gone next morning. Who knows?! So if you think you’ve blown it you haven’t – just get back to it! I’m hoping to shed another stone by the end of April but I know that’s a big challenge and is going to be tough going as the rate does definitely seem to slow down as you progress – so wish me luck!

    Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the encouragement – I am well and truly back on the wagon today. This morning, when I totted up what I had actually had at the party last evening I was totally shocked, particularly as my friends had gone to a great deal of trouble providing BSD friendly foods. Which I ate and enjoyed, and were well within my carbs and calorie allowance. But sadly, I had several glasses of a rather nice sauvignon blanc, which added a colossal 500 calories though, thankfully, very little in the way of carbs. This wouldn’t have been too disastrous, but the wine obviously impaired my judgment and I then ate 6 Guylian chocolate seashells (which I love) which were my very first taste of chocolate since starting BSD on 16th January and which added a massive 373 calories and an enormous 35g carbs!!! Up until yesterday, I had been keeping my carb intake to between 25 and 30, so this bit of chocolate more than doubled my daily intake and brought me up to 65g. Were they worth it? No, of course they weren’t! πŸ™ Did enjoy the wine though πŸ˜‰

I then didn’t sleep well and this morning I felt really jaded (hungover??!! πŸ˜‰ ) and bloated and don’t feel at all like eating, so I have decided to make today a fast day to hopefully repair the damage, although I did have some Fage yoghurt and berries at about 11.30am. I think I may have exactly the same for supper, and have nothing else at all today, other than water. Then tomorrow, I will be back on a really healthy 800 full of nutrients.

First thing this morning, all I wanted to do was get out in the fresh air, so had a lovely sunny, if windy, 5 mile walk with the dogs, which at least blew away the cobwebs.

O/H and friends have all gone to the pub for a Sunday lunchtime drink, but I declined and am about to go for another walk instead (dogs are happy – though they do love the pub too). They know I will not be eating dinner with them this evening, so they are taking advantage of the situation and all having steak (I don’t eat red meat). πŸ˜‰

Oh, and good luck on your next stone, Dreamscometrue. In fact, good luck to us all.

Thank you for all the support and encouragement to myself and other fellow wagon faller offers. We can all do this.
I shall start with a good cleansing fast on water only for 42ish hours, just to get me in the mood.
Good luck to all, especially those of us involved in this little bump in the road to thinness and fitness.
    Have a great week everyone.
    Kate.

Theodora please don’t feel too badly about this! Falling off the wagon is a weekly occurrence for me ☺️
The fact that you had completed 7 weeks and 6 days (so 55 days) without doing this before is amazing in my book!
I’m sure one day will not make too much difference to your overall loss, and even if you did put on a pound or 2 you could lose it easily in a few days.
I had a “day off” yesterday and was not going to count calories but I did – such a habit now. My total was just under 1500, so similar to a typical day before BSD.
Today I’ve started Round 2. Goals are to lose at least 7kg – this will move me from “obese” to “overweight” on the BMI scale, and will also mean I can start reducing my daily steroid dose.
I have a trip away, Easter and Anzac Day coming up in the 8 weeks but have decided to do 5:2 in those weeks.
Good luck to everyone else now starting, or already in Round 2 πŸ™‚

You’ll do it, SueBlue – I have every confidence in you πŸ˜€

Thanks for your kind words about my topple from the BSD wagon and I have well and truly climbed back on now. Had a fast day yesterday so really hope that repaired any damage.

Today should be my end of round one weigh in but as I am away from home I don’t have access to scales. So my weigh in will be on Wednesday.

Like you, SueBlue, I am starting my 2nd round today and would like to lose another stone or so – depending upon what my final first week weigh in is , as I haven’t weighed in over a week. Again like you, I need to factor in a few mini holidays, the first of which is a 2 night gourmet break next week, booked by O/H as a little treat for being so good on BSD. Lovely gesture but he didn’t quite think it through 😨 Gotta love him😍

Good luck to all our January starter second rounders – we can do this.πŸ‘

I have started round two this week. I am planning to weigh in on Saturday morning. . I was away last week and purposely didn’t get weighed last Saturday. It’s not been an easy week- had a fall and sprained both ankles whilst away and this week I have a dental abscess and my wisdom tooth is thankfully being removed on Monday morning- I have been in a lot of pain and am taking an antibiotic and a lot of painkillers. Don’t look or feel great at the moment to be honest but I have stuck to the plan. No walking unfortunately! I am hoping to lose 10 lb during phase two. My losses are slow and steady so I hope 10 lb would be achievable in the next eight weeks. I will post my weight after my weigh in on Saturday. I cannot tell if i have lost anything this week- my clothes feel the same. I have enjoyed reading this forum whilst I have been unwell and am still inspired and motivated to have a healthy BMI in 2017- Good luck to anyone doing round two.

Hi Clarinetcathy you have had a rough time lately ! Well done for sticking with it. Like you I’m about to start round two. My 8 weeks is up on Saturday then off we go again. I lose slowly too, mainly because I can’t walk much. I’m finding my new rowing machine is good, but I can’t do more than 20 mins.

I think 10 lbs is a reasonable aim for round two. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Just an observation about clothes as I reach the end of my first 8 weeks. I have clothes in the next two sizes down kept from when I was slimmer πŸ˜€. I’m trying on the bigger ones every now and again just to get an idea of where the weight is going off because my tape measure seems to show very little reduction ! It’s encouraging to find these smaller clothes getting easier to put on. Some even fit me now !

I think when you start off at a large size you have a bigger percentage to lose, so you don’t look slimmer as quickly and it takes longer to reduce a dress size.

I haven’t had many comments yet on my weight loss. My family say I look slimmer, but they would wouldn’t they ! I haven’t had any comments at work or from people who don’t know me well. I’m interested to know how much I will actually have to lose before anyone really notices !

    What do others think ?

Re clothes. I’ve not had any comments about my weight loss either. Even though I’ve lost over 1.5 stone and 6in from my waist so far, I’m still wearing the same jeans. But now there’s no struggle to do up the zip and hardly any muffin top which I kept hidden with baggy jumpers. Now I can wear more fitted tops and I don’t feel anything like as self conscious. I probably kept my excess weight quite well disguised which is why it’s not been noticed.
But I know I’ve lost it and feel so much better for it which is what counts.

I’ve finished my first 8 week cycle and I planned to take a bit of a break and not religiously note all my food etc, but I find I’m still eating around the 800 calories as a matter of habit. I was all set to start doing 5:2 but I can’t bring myself to go back to eating ‘normally’. It’s very odd how this diet has completely changed my tastes. Long may it continue! But I know that an odd slide here and there isn’t the end of the world and I feel I have learned how to rectify it and get back on track. Time will tell, but I am cautiously optimistic that for the first time in my life I’m in control of what I eat and not driven by sugar cravings.

Cathy and Seasidenana, I’m the same with clothes. After a 6kg loss, and 22cms lost from bust, waist & hips I’ve noticed things like My work pants all fit comfortably – before they would dig into my waist and I’d struggle to do up the zip. My shirts don’t gape at the bust. Also I have a lovely lacy top that I like to wear sometimes. When I wore it to work a few months ago I had to stop at the shops and buy a different top (!) as I was wearing it with pants that had a lower waist and it kept riding up and exposing my belly! Not a good look at my age & size! Anyway I wore it again a few days ago and it fitted perfectly πŸ™‚
I’ve also noticed my double chin is almost a 1 1/2 chin now instead of double 😊 And stuff like ‘back fat’ is much less… wow I’m really talking myself up here aren’t I?
I guess all that sort of loss though is visible to me but not necessarily anyone else.
Hopefully by the end of round 2 it will be more noticeable and I’ll drop a dress size. I have suits for work in sizes 16-20 so I’m covered! Although planned to donate bigger clothes to the charity shop as I don’t want them to fit comfortably again!

Clarinetcathy and sueblue your messages cheered me up ! Yes I do think we get quite good at covering up when we get bigger and disguising the flab which may explain why people don’t really notice when we lose it. I’m sure people will notice when we get to the end of round two ! Onwards and upwards ! Or downwards I should say. Good luck everyone we are all doing really well.

Hi Clarinet Cathy, Sueblue and Seasidenana. Maybe people notice you have lost weight but afraid to say anything in case they say the wrong thing. I have had a couple of people notice but they are mainly friends and know I am on the BSD anyway. It’s true we dress to conceal our faults so maybe more compliments will come our way when wearing smaller and more revealing clothing! Look forward to that. It’s a good idea to rid yourself of the too large clothing. Don’t want to even contemplate going back there!.

That is true bigeater. I must admit that a lot of my clothes are quite shapeless, big tops to cover tummy etc. on the weekend though I was shopping with my daughters and I tried on a lovely dress. It was a designer brand and way out of my price range but was beautifully cut and a fitted (rather than loose) style. I was surprised as it looked like I actually had a waist! My daughter remarked that I looked much slimmer in that style of dress – so now I’m on the lookout for a similar style in the chain stores – or wait for the designer dress to come on sale πŸ™‚

Sueblue how exciting to try on something which fits ! I dread fitting rooms in shops ! The problem with our situation is we don’t want to spend too much on clothes when we will (hopefully) lose more weight and these new purchases will be too big. I bought some clothes to cheer myself up just before I decided to lose weight, and these are already too big and hardly worn. I’m selling my too big clothes (the nicer ones) on eBay and buying myself good used clothing which will fit for the next stage. Some of these are a bit tight, but they will fit soon. Hoping to resell them when I go down another size.

Seasidenana and Sueblue….I’m totally with you on the subject of clothes. I’ve also noticed that clothes I had in the cupboard don’t really fit now even though I’ve lost weight. My shape has changed too…my waist, hips and thighs are completely out of sync so trousers look baggy in places and just fit in others. And because I’ve still got 20kgs to go I don’t want to invest in new. I’m waiting for Summer when I can slip into some long cotton dresses.

But what a lovely problem to have, beats clothes straining at the seams anyday πŸ˜‰
