Thank you for sharing sunshine-girl . . . this communication has made me feel SO MUCH BETTER!!! Someone with the exact same story but with different readings!!! (The bathroom visits after starting one of the pills was so horrendous they will never be forgotten. Nor will the depression, constant crying, lack of appetite and wanting to hide/die with two others!!! only leaving insulin as the last resort.) – Since starting the 8 week “diet” which Im calling my new eating regime!!! Ive “discarded” good old fashioned rolled oats – couldnt believe the tests following that small change. No bread of course, ate little potato of any kind or pumpkin anyways – but no more . . . my home made pea and ham, chicken and vege soups – GONE! Why? The split peas and dry soup mix! AMAZINGLY HIGH READINGS AFTER THOSE!!!! And I always had that in the winter – make a batch, and then just heat and eat when desired. My Ryvita and Vitaweet biscuits . . .? (afternoon snack with vegemite or lunch some days with cheese and tomato/cold meat (whatever) – GONE. Unbelievable readings after them. They have no sugar and no fat! BUT NO GOOD TO ME!!! Finger prick readings still higher than “they” would like . . . but then consistently single digits after (2-3 weeks) is an unbelievable difference – and shows GREAT promise for me. It is just like magic. Sincere and grateful thank you’s to a few people who are responsible for opening doors and revealing possibility ideas.

Thanks for that, it all sounds good to me…I get your thoughts on the fruit, and will see how it goes. I must say though that I’ve seemingly lost my desire for muesli and milk right now, it must be the spirit of Dr Mosley taking over…eggs are my go to choice right now!
I’ll certainly be making a batch up when I return from my holibobs though…my top tip for this diet is to have the things in the house/fridge that you can actually eat…for myself it makes the whole process much easier, less likely to falter!
Cheers,
Red

Thank you for all your words of encouragement!
Iโm happy Iโve picked a date – I always seem to find deadlines useful.
How do you folks manage the cooking?? Do some of the meals lend themselves to batch cooking and freezing or is it best, if batch cooking to consume the remainder the next day?!
What a lovely bunch of people you are!
Thanks for your words of encouragement!

It’s probably sensible to delay starting properly if you know it will be particularly difficult over the next week.
Good luck.
-
Is it possible for you to transfer to another doctor, who’d be more helpful?

So glad I found this!! Iโm on day 5 and on day 3 and 4 I had this awfully in the evening, it was like acid shooting out of me ๐ฌ at least now I know itโs related to the diet, fingers crossed itโs gone!

My GP was very supportive – it was the grouchy diabetic nurse who was extremely close-minded and negative; I just ignored her and stopped taking metformin; she got even grouchier when my blood sugar came down – the GP used to send congratulatory emails, but not a word of encouragement / “well done” or “that’s interesting” from the grouchy DN.
Hopefully she’s drowned in her metformin by now. -

Alliecat, thatโs it, yes, a natural high. It happened to me about two weeks in, and I suddenly noticed this bubble of happy feelings inside. Will it wear off, or could this be the new normal?

Hello!
Iโve picked a week on Monday as weโre away on holiday next week with the whole family and a birthday while weโre away!
I was hoping to use this week – as you say – to not go mad but I know weโve got an alcohol and carb loaded week ahead!
Iโm thinking of it as my last hurrah for 3 months – my 12 weeks would coincide roughly with my wifeโs due date – so I think itโs a good aim!
Weโll see. My big love is popcorn and houmous – I can easily eat a whole lot myself!
Portion control is probably my biggest issue and has been since I started cooking for myself!
Looking forward to it!
Thanks for all your kind words!

Hi, positive family! I’m feeling very much in the positive lane today, for I’ve managed 2 days in a row of 18:6.
I’m always awake from 3:00am on, so the wait to “feed” til 2:00pm can be a rough ride, 11 hours! For some
inexplicable reason, I’ve slept til 8:00am the past 2 days, making it possible to only need to eat 2x per day.
If I ever figure out what makes the difference, I’m going to bottle and market it for everyone with a sleep
disorder ๐
Have a magnificent weekend, everyone. I hope your heatwave breaks soon xxAllie

I like your sense of humor, Tom1985! I don’t use an ipad or iphone, so I don’t have access to emoticons,
but imagine me displaying “clapping hands” for your decision to be a healthy Dad who is teaching your young
children healthy dietary habits! You haven’t explained your decision to postpone your start date to July 16, 10 days
into the future, but it’s never too early to begin cutting back on the refined carbs/sugar and getting into the
habit of drinking lots of water, even if you aren’t measuring and counting calories and carbs yet. It’s a good
strategy for minimizing the possibility of dealing with “carb flu”. We’re all looking forward to getting to know
you, and sharing in your journey. Very best to you,Allie

Good to see you and what a good news about the rash disappearing. I hope you’re as good as new now. I’ve just about managed 40seconds of planking and it makes me feel very good. Hello everyone, it is another glorious day here in the UK. As I mentioned in last weeks thread, I had a little blip last week, not in the eating, I stuck to that, but I got really itchy skin and a rash. Iโm pretty certain it was keto rash, as it fitted the description perfectly. Thankfully mine was only very slight.I followed the advice I found, and am delighted to say it has cleared up & the abdominal itching has gone. Iโm hoping it was a temporary issue, and have dropped my carbs back to around 20 again to see what happens. Link is here if itโs of interest to anyone. https://www.dietdoctor.com/keto-rash-people-itch-low-carb
I am back in my shorts again, and managed a 21 second plank today Skinnytobe ๐
I am loving this WOE, it makes me feel really happy. Has anyone else noticed that? It makes such a difference to my overall mood.
Goal for this week is to lose another 2lb, and maybe increase my plank to 22 seconds ๐
Have a great weekend everyone.

on 6 Jul 2018 at 16:16 in Welcome to the BSDAllie, it’s the same everywhere. The problem is that the media are scared to cover it in case they lose advertising revenue – so where it is covered it’s given the slant of a ‘fad diet’.
Well, it is taking hold; we can buy carb free noodles, courgetti are quite usual and restaurants generally don’t use sauces on meat.
Yesterday Aseem Malhotra met Tom Watson, deputy leader of the opposition, who has lost 94lbs on the Pioppi diet which got some media coverage.
It’s a slow business, not helped by the refusal of GP’s to open their minds, but bit by bit it will happen.

Me too, Maggie! I think that it is nothing short of tragic that our countries aren’t producing more new Doc’s
with a dedication to preventative medicine. Just think of the effect that would have on reducing costs for
insurance co.s as well as patients! That flies in the face of “profits” though, doesn’t it? I think the biggest
impediment in my country, and why our “food pyramid” is so out of date, is the influence of the grain lobbies
and sugar lobbies on our legislators. Absolutely a conflict of interest when these multi national firms contribute
to political campaigns. Rather obscene, when you think about it! Keep up the good fight, one case at a time.
We may be small in number, but we can have a BIG voice ๐ -
It’s really encouraging to hear that you’re feeling better, YM2be! Our bodies are unique mechanisms, and I’m
certain that yours is in a state of confusion at the new manner of eating that you are asking of it ๐ There have
been numerous posts on how we lose fat, but in the event that you haven’t come across one of these yet…
basically what is happening physiologically is that as we lose fat from our fat cells, the fat is replaced with
water. Eventually the fat cells collapse, and fat and water are released. This is known as the “whoosh effect”.
When it happens, the scales can show a loss of 2-3 lbs. overnight. Hormonal changes, as well as “transit
issues”can cause a slight gain too. You’re doing great, don’t worry…It all comes right in the end ๐
Have a great weekend!Allie

BGL problems and weight loss, but the greater “prize”, maintaining it! Thank you for posting today. I

on 6 Jul 2018 at 15:16 in Starting the BSDThank you for all the tips everyone, so much help & inspiration on these lovely forums. I’ve never heard of that version of Becks, Harry, definitely look out for it as I like Becks. I’m not sure how well I’m doing sticking to 800 calories. I’ve got My Fitness Pal but I don’t weigh things so my portions are probably out. My kitchen scales are ancient things, they’ve never heard of grams, happen I’d better invest in a new set. I bought a new set of bathroom scales last week as I was sure my old ones were broken as they never shifted day to day, but the new ones showed the same ๐
Tesco do good individual pots of their own brand full fat Greek yoghurt, only ยฃ1 a pack of four, they come in blue & white packaging. There’s a low fat version as well, same price, paler blue pack. It’s easier than guessing amounts out of a big tub.
Gosh it’s hotter than ever! Doesn’t help that I’m high up very near the moorland fire that’s raging just up the lane. Oh Alibobs! This is wonderful news! Thank you so much for coming back and posting your update! It will help so many others who are just starting.
Wow, your loss is fantastic! You must feel on top of the world. You rocked this!
And yes, the โWhy We Get Fatโ book by Taubes literally saved my life โ Allie and I never stop recommending it here on the forums. I share your righteous anger that the guidelines promulgated by my own government are not the healthiest way to eat โ it is unbelievable that they are so off base but I think are pressured and dictated by big corporate interests and money.
I also worry sometimes that they also arenโt sure how we would feed the world if we started to recommend another way of eating.
Anyway, huge congratulations on your success. Please keep posting when you can! Your success is a beacon of hope to the people just starting or struggling. -
Marxistfood and Maggie…I know very little about the NHS, but it’s disturbing to hear that anyone is being

on 6 Jul 2018 at 13:15 in Welcome to the BSDI’ve been out at lunchtime and got some more peppers, carrots and celery I will cut some up and put them in a plastic container in the fridge – yes you are right, the fridge is always the first port of call if something happens, like other people reach for a cigarette I suppose. I’m very lucky I don’t have an emotional attachment to food, he knows I’m stressed because I chew the inside of my lip! I just need to be one step ahead with my preparation I suppose, I probably should let him do it himself but I know he wouldn’t weigh stuff and like I say I don’t want to nag! it is lucky he has always eaten healthily (he has a Mediterranean mother) but portion control has been the issue
he does have pretty good control, he had his six monthly blood test recently and we are waiting to see what that says, we hope it might open up dialogue with the gp surgery again if it is good I would love to have support from them as well but it is nice to talk (virtually) to people understand -

on 6 Jul 2018 at 13:03 in Welcome to the BSDThanks for the info cattie. It seems he is getting good control and it is important he continues on this path. As for the treats, I think jam is out of the question. Sounds like he eats for reasons of stress but maybe also the habit of turning to the fridge in the evening and his treats might be something he wouldn’t normally turn to. That is the point of a diet, to change of daily eating habits for the better. Remember a treat is just that, something you have now and then to stop you from feeling deprived, have some delicious BDS friendly nibbles available in portion sizes, like a 1oz cube of cheese – but he can only have one now and then, not go back to the fridge 10 minutes later for another piece. What about a bowl of fresh or defrosted frozen berries, vegetable sticks like carrots already prepared. Talking of nagging mothers, my grandchildren wont think to eat fruit or veg but if I cut it up and put it in front of them they do.
-
Hi I will give it a go, I will weigh in on Tuesday too, it would be grand to be 150 lb by September! Good Luck to us all!
-
Afternoon all,
I’ve just finished the book for the second time.
I’ve decided to take the plunge and try it out!
I’m 33, 6FT and weigh 117kg (18st10) – my BMI is around 35 – so QUITE scary really! I used to have quite an active job – but I’ve recently moved jobs and as such – my lack of movement is also quite scary!I’ve got two young children and another one the way – and I really need to get healthy to set a good example and make sure I’m around!
My wife is a GP and is very supportive of me trying this out – it’s clear that the opinions of healthcare professionals are changing….
I’m not diabetic in any way – not pre-diabetic either, but i do have a rather large midriff which definitely sets alarm bells ringing.I lost about 6 stone 10 years ago – reaching 13st8 – a combination of eating lots of chicken and rice, salmon and cous cous and veggies – but I was doing 2hrs in the gym 6 days a week – not sustainable. I ran a 10k in under an hour 2 years ago and I’d love to be able to get back to that level of fitness.
I like the idea of limiting my chances of developing diabetes and other related illnesses before I have a limited ability to do anything about it!
Anyway – if anybody fancies joining me – let me know!
Take care,
Tom
