If you have had a good number on the scales this first week , fantastic ! That’s a great boost as the weeks progress .

If you have had a more disappointing result, please don’t be despondent . Don’t give up !!

Try not to get too focused on the scales as your only way of measuring success if it affects your mood . Give it time , it will happen. For some of us daily weighing is necessary for accountability .Choose what feels right for you .

Also , check how your clothes fit , take different body measurements…

Don’t worry about comparing your results with others .It’s irrelevant .It’s your body and we are all different in how we respond, depending on whether we are new to this way of eating or we have been doing it for some time .

Remember you are doing this for your health not for a beach body 😉

So good to see the renewed motivation on the thread and as always lots of support available .
It does feel good getting back into my usual routine and committing to at least 30 minutes of stretching, pilates etc every day .
I am still collating my recipes so keep the meal ideas coming . That keeps us inspired and less likely to succomb to carbage .

Feeling good about the positivity and familiar names on the thread and a big welcome to anyone who wants to join us !

Remember low carb is for life, not just for January 🙂 🙂

Hi V . I have chia seeds in a few tablespoons of kefir . I don’t really track fibre levels as I have no issues
in the number 2 department 😉 Drinking lots of water is vital too . I have a few herbal teas I like . We can get lots of loose leaf infusions here and they are really nice .I can infuse the leaves several times and they keep me well topped up and not dehydrated .

I sense I could get a bit bogged down and confused with the macro calculations . I never really did that when I started out and it’s just a habit to know which foods to include and which carby processed stuff to cut out .So Lauren I can’t really help .
JGwen is really good at explaining the complicated stuff so maybe she will pop in and give her point of view ? So sorry JGwen to hear you have been unwell .You have been truly missed .

I have mentioned it before but my picture book Carbs and Calorie Counter ( Chris Cheyette and Yello Balolia gives carbs, cals, protein , fat / sat fat and fibre for each food . I find it useful. I seem to respond better to the visual aspect !
I am going to set up the new thread now xx

    Hello everybody
I’m a newbie from Australia who was touched by generous support of other members here when I posted about my frustration with not loosing much weight. Was encouraged to join this thread, so happily, here I am.

My goal is to lose 11kgs. By way of background, at the ripe old age of 39 – and despite being relatively healthy, I had a stroke which completely changed my world. Following a long period of rehab I ended up at 65kgs. Its now six years later and I’m 76kgs and am concerned about health problems coming from having extra weight. I’m determined to never have a stroke again and losing weight is a key issue in preventing it. For my own self esteem I also want to lose the belly that people around my like to point out regularly.

I haven’t enjoyed a lot of weight loss yet in the three weeks since I started this diet, but I’m keen to continue on the journey with some tweaks and mods to my approach as I go and by digesting (non pun intended…) much information from experienced people like yourselves. Thanks for letting me join

A few people have mentioned squeezing in some exercises into their kitchen routines. Dr Rangan Chatterjee calls these exercise snacks and he has a routine he does every day: https://youtu.be/jtZB95-AVZM

Maybe some ideas to add to what you’re already doing. He’s another big proponent of fitting lots of small bite size exercises in throughout your day.

I did MM’s 7 minute exercise routine this morning using the recommended app. It was hard but because each section was short it was very doable. The only equipment you need is a chair and perhaps a mat. All of the exercises could be modified as needed eg push ups were definitely on my knees! I coupled this with a 10 minute brisk walk to get outside and warm up then a few stretches after.

Also saw someone mention about sleep. Mine was a bit rocky last night but I will aim to have more carbs and mostly in the evening which should help (yesterday I think I was under 30gs) and I also remembered the pleasant fact that once I’d switched to ketones I actually needed less sleep to feel just as refreshed as when I was carb heavy so looking forward to that 😁

Hi folks! Happy Monday! My Carb Monster is trembling in her boots as Ive woken full of optimism and unshakeable iron will! I won’t let that sly ol’ creature hide round corners and trip me up any more 😃
DAWN so pleased for you with that 5lb down!👏👏 what a great incentive to keep going..it’s what I love about low carbing! X and DENISE also, and CARONL,well done 👍👍 X
DCT I loveJAX’s idea too…this morning,in between little tasks, I’ve incorporated stretching, deep breathing exercises and a little rebounding.
NOKIE hope you’ve got started as planned today. I’ve been weighed and damage not as great as feared. Today I’m starting with a fast ( easy to do that today as I ate so much on my last-day-of-holiday yesterday 🙂)then dindins of broccoli and veggy sausage. X
ARCTICFOX hope you’re feeling better now after side effects from booster.X
SUEBLUE think I’ll follow your “keeping carbs under 50 and protein over 50g,and not worrying too much about calories” for now. Sounds like a great mantra! XX

    Hello and Happy Monday!

Welcome to all our new travellers – Denise susan, Nokie and Stevoka – and hope that more will join now we are into our first “proper” week in January (in the UK last Monday was a Bank Holiday so it still felt slightly like holiday season!). Nokie I feel like I’m always starting again! But why not? If you have a plan that works then it’s a great idea to repeat it.

Hope you all enjoy the journey and hope we all have a great week.

Not much to report this end – weekends always seem to fly by but I also find it much harder to stick to plan. We had friends round on Saturday then watched an online Bowie tribute show on Sunday and I confess to consuming too much wine with each. But as Denise susan said earlier, even if you don’t have a good day every day, at least if you have some good days – ideally more than bad days – you are moving forward.

Jax61 I love your idea of building exercise into other things. I used to do a 7 minute belly workout first thing in the morning in amongst clearing the kitchen, feeding pets, making coffee etc. A really good habit that I must get back into, as I think it was having a good effect. A friend keeps some dumbbells in her kitchen and does a few bicep curls every time she’s waiting for the kettle to boil, so will take that on board too. And am off for another long walk this morning (poor dog!). Stevoka I’ll be interested to hear how your MM routine goes too – I’m always looking for new exercise ideas.

Sue thanks for all your food ideas as always. I did the halloumi tray bake (with kale and broccoli) from the new book on Friday night. It didn’t turn out well but I think that was me (as mentioned before, cooking is not my forte). It had a nasty tang to it: I suspect maybe I used too much olive oil, and I also noticed that the pine nuts were well past their use by date. No untoward consequences thank goodness, and I will give it another try as I love all the ingredients. Just didn’t work this time for some reason 🙀

Go well everyone, and keep posting X

    Happy Monday all 🙂

Welcome Stevoka – sounds like you have a plan 🙂 I too have used the Diet Doctor site before and have found it useful for recipes and resources.

I’ve had a good day today – carbs only 35g (very unusual for me!) and protein at 59g, I think calories were 885. I’m focussing on keeping carbs under 50 and protein over 50g as per the book, and not too focussed on calories. I’m averaging around 900 calories and it’s working well. I didn’t feel hungry at all today, and had some nourishing food. I made the Keto pancakes with berries and yoghurt for breakfast, then had leftover Black bean chilli with some shredded cabbage for lunch – this was really delicious, the flavour had more depth than when I first made it 2 days ago – I always find curries, bolognaise & chilli tastes better after a day or 2 🙂 For dinner I made the Sesame salmon with cherry tomatoes and broccoli – this recipe is in the F800 red recipe book and is one of my favourites.

I can recommend the Keto pancakes, they were quite filling and less than 200 calories per serve – they were quite small and I thought it wouldn’t be enough but it was, I didn’t feel hungry all morning. The chilli is “good value” calorie wise too at something like 180 calories per serve.

I still have more of the book to read – I’ve been diving in and out of it! Will aim to do so in the next few days.

I’ve managed to fit in 90 minute walks for the last 2 days and am planning to walk for an hour before work tomorrow, as at least it’s cool at 7am and no UV to worry about!

Hope everyone else is doing well 🙂

Lauren I’m having the same problem so last week I went through the food I eat regularly and came up with some higher fibre foods.
    These values are per 100g:
    Avocado 6.7g
    Raspberries 6.5g
    Sprouts 3.8 g
    Almonds 13.3g
    Walnuts 6.7g
    Asparagus 2g
    Broccoli 2.6g
    Spinach 2.4g
    Leeks 1.8g
    Onions 1.7g
    Lentils 7.3g (cooked)
    Chickpeas 7g
    Dark chocolate10.9g

I can’t guarantee that these figures are completely accurate as there are so many different sources but I think at least it’s a broad guide.
It really is difficult to balance the macros. I’m improving but it’s not easy!
If anybody has other foods they rely on for fibre please post them.
P.S. I have started to use a teaspoon of pysillium husk and flax seed. Chia is another good one

Well, the weekend- was a bit looser than I had planned- but I had planned it sort of that way,
especially as having a day out with middle child in Bath (our nearest decent shopping centre) , as she had Christmas money to spend…..so now it’s Monday, back on track…..I am thinking perhaps a 2:5 or a 2.5: 4.5 arrangement.

Thank you Jwen, Sunshine-girl, Stevoka, florob85 and SunnyB. I am so grateful for your support and advice. Its quite touching to realise there is such a supporting and encourage group of people here. I guess it can act as a great substitute for my lack of supportive people around me.

I realise that I’m probably starving myself too much and will increase my intake a few hundred calories more for a while whilst getting settled into the routine. I accept its better to focus on the protein than worry about calories for the moment. I’ll also space out my meals a bit better whilst I’m going.

Happily will join the next 100 day thread as I’m sure its a great idea.

Thanks once agin – you’ve inspired me to continue.

    Hi there
I’d also like to join. I’ve done keto before but never the fast800. I’m really curious to combine and really enjoyed the book. I reckon I have about a stone to lose but have no scales so am going with body measurements. My goal is just to fit back comfortably in all my clothes and definitely to get my stomach shrinking. I started keto previously due to chronic ear, nose, throat issues. A friend with similar had great results and I did also but have slipped back into carby habits which aren’t helping. Maybe some extra motivation for everyone, as well as my general health improving around week 3 the glowing skin phenomenon kicked in. You hear this a lot from people who’ve gone low carb and it’s VERY noticeable. I’m looking forward to that. I also found that my appetite was dramatically reduced after a week or so presumably due to better blood sugar control which meant I could introduce stricter fasts and things later. I’ve started today and for first couple of days I’m just going to keep it really low carb and not count calories to help me get through the carb flu fun and then start monitoring calories on Tuesday. I don’t have any electrolytes but a pinch of salt in my water also helps. In the past I’ve found http://www.dietdoctor.com to be super helpful for all things low carb/keto related so I’ll use MM’s book and that. It’s good to search for recipes for things that you really fancy and usually there is a low carb option. It also has lots of motivational stories and details of the science behind it all for those who are interested to learn more. I’ll probably be eating around 90g protein. Higher than it says in the book but I’ve done a lot of reading around this before and this seems to be a safe healthy level. The higher protein helps with my appetite control and I do plan to do some strength training. Very important for this perimenopausal woman! I’ve downloaded the 7 minute exercise app that MM uses and am planning a short routine for my mornings which I’m going to test this week: 10 min mindfulness practice on waking, 15 minute walk outside (see Huberman Lab for info all about the importance of morning light) then back for the 7 min work out before getting ready for work. I might be too optimistic but will test for a couple of days to see how it goes and tweak from there. Really love hearing about your early successes and top tips. Very motivational. Hopefully I can share some soon!

  • Hi Stevoka

The chia pudding isn’t in a MM book to my knowledge, I looked up the recipe online

I use 120ml alpro coconut milk
    2 tbspns chia seeds

Mix them together and leave it to set in the fridge for a few hours or overnight – this makes it quite firm in my experience so if you want it looser just use more milk or less seeds!

Then top with whatever you want – some berries or yoghurt or chopped nuts or whatever

The base “pudding” is 150 cal, 4.5g carbs, 11.4g fibre, 6ishg protein and 10.6g fat – almost all of which is healthy omegas in the chia seeds.

    L x

  • Evening all

I’ve been reading MM’s new book, and like others have not really learned anything new, but it has renewed my complete befuddlement in what to actually eat to get

    <50g carbs (that’s simple enough)
    AND
    20g fibre
    AND
    >50 but less than say 80g protein
    AND 800cal

I’ve been fiddling around with my menu plan for the week all day and cannot get the macros to match, I’m not that worried to be honest because I feel low carb, low cal is the most important thing, but I am intrigued – is anyone actually achieving this? Noting of course that as per the recipes in the book are massively off according to both MyFitnessPal and Lose It (the app I use).

For example, tonight I made a sort of roast – basically chicken and veg and allowed a tiny bit of gravy (one teaspoon of gravy granules, hasn’t even put me over 21g carbs for the day, sue me) and had

    Chicken
    Brussels sprouts
    Broccoli
    Kale
    Gravy

    All carefully weighed, tracked, etc.

But macros for that meal are:

    62.5g protein
14g carbs (largely the gravy granules)
    6g fibre
    9g fat

    – protein obviously quite high, and I could have cut the chicken down a bit, but there’s also protein in the sprouts and broccoli and kale…..but they are my fibre…..so what the hell am I meant to eat?!

Also, he always goes on about “load your plate up with green veg and don’t bother counting it” – I do- but if I hadn’t, today alone that’s over 100 cals worth of veg, pretty much all my fibre for the day, about 10g worth of carbs and about 6g worth of protein I wouldn’t be counting???

Anyway I’m rambling, but would appreciate any wisdom there is to offer!

It’s not necessary to follow the recipes, just ensure you have a protein source, some good fats and plenty of above ground veg for main meals. Breakfast and snacks can be as simple as full fat yogurt, nuts, seeds, berries.

Deuce …. sorry you’ve had such a tough time. You have already received some excellent advice here from others. It maybe worth factoring in more fat (as SG suggested) as this will help with feeling full and holding hunger at bay longer. It seems madness that fat can be our friend, but it really is. Good hydration is also essential, so keep on top of that and if in doubt, have another glass of water.

Many of us are slow losers … me included. It’s a tough one to accept, but try to make peace with it … your body is unique and is doing it, it’s own way. Celebrate every step in the right direction, no matter how small.

One last thing, it’s really tough doing this without support, so be sure to make the most of this forum and maybe think about joining the weekly and/or ‘through to Easter’ threads. These both have experienced and new BSDers, all of whom will offer support, encouragement and experience based advice when needed. Try not to be disheartened, we’re here to support you.

Hi Deuce, I echo all JGwen, s-g and Kerry have said, but also I would add drink alllllll the water – try to drink a minimum 2L water a day on top of other liquid (cutting out the coke!) – I hate it because it makes me feel super bloated and sloshy but honestly if I stop drinking water I stop losing weight. Just full stop.

Please come and join us on the weekly thread – Wendy sets up a new one every Monday so tomorrows will have One week at a time starting 10th Jan in the title – but you can come and join last weeks if you want and we’ll roll you over to the next one! As one extremely slow loser to another, big hugs!! And believe me I get the frustration because I’m in that 200lbs plus group s-g mentions and usually I don’t have big losses – I have this first week back on plan properly but I’ve been awful recently and Christmas and I know full well it’ll mostly be water.

Yowser, glad SIL is back in circulation and that you’ve had such a wonderful few days away.
V, it’s always good to have a change of scene, even if briefly.

Soooo …. let’s see what positives I can dredge up …
🍲 lovely meal out on Friday evening, including a very pleasant bottle of wine and an excellent cheese board 🤭.
🥱 lazy weekend with nothing much happening. We’ve just been chilling out and relaxing.
    🚗 OH’s car passed it’s MOT …. phew!
🌸 DD and fiance popped in for a cuppa today.
🛍 OH has ordered a really pretty tote bag for my birthday present.

Looking forward to the coming week and getting to spend sometime with my folks. Hope it’s a good week for you, whatever you’ll be doing.

    Hi Deuce

I can totally understand that must be very frustrating for you. In terms of hunger, it may be helpful to prioritise protein. Amino acids are key to us feeling satiated. I will be supplementing Omega 3 to help with this and staying to low carb high protein throughout. I’m female, weigh about 160lbs and I’ll be eating around 100 grammes of protein a day.

Maybe worth mentioning that I have a friend who went low carb and didn’t lose anything much in the first four weeks and then suddenly the weight started dropping off. It’s different for everyone. I personally don’t weigh myself because I know that the scale can be very erratic. I measure various body parts and take photos of myself. I’ll update the measurements each week and the photos each month. In the past, I’ve noticed dramatic differences there even when the scales said that the weight wasn’t shifting.

I’d also recommend eating more. For the Keto 800 you focus on protein snacks to stay in ketosis when you’re really hungry and 800 calories hasn’t been enough and also due to the point I mentioned above. You might start on a higher calorie level until things get under control and just keep it low carb and prioritise protein with some healthy fats. No use being so hungry you’re feeling miserable because you’ll find it so hard to keep going.

I really hope you find something here that helps. Let us know how you get on. You got this!
    Kerry

S-g oh dear …. but you did make me laugh! Why would you swap your lovely home, saw it online, for that! I do think this is a common phenomenon when you don’t live in the same town/city/country as your children. We did at one point consider moving closer to one of our children but hey … how does that make the other one feel? Apart from anything we’re very comfortable in our own home!
The course …. I’m finding it a bit boring really. I’ve just skimmed through week 1. This looks like the second run, at least, of the course and there don’t seem to be many participants for this latest one, which appears to have only started a few weeks ago. I’m really bad I know but honestly I can’t be bothered trying to convert people, especially those who don’t have T2! It’s different when you are in a forum like this where people with T2 are trying to reverse T2. I am only too happy to pass on any tips that could help. I might persevere but not sure at the moment.
So, another week starts tomorrow. Hope everyone can take their initial enthusiasm into week 2 on Tuesday. I think it’s really difficult to keep our spirits up in January but just think everyday gets a little lighter, especially when the sky is clear, … not long until the clocks go forward, we will get there and as s-g says we just have to ….. just keep on keeping on ………….

Hi everyone on this grey Sunday . Hope everyone is ok. I have been compiling the list ready for tomorrow’s new weekly thread.

Russianroulade, all the best as you prepare for your new job .
Well done on coping with the cravings, onestep
Elle-Mae I had to google TIA . Sounds pretty scary . Glad you’re ok and hopefully being monitored correctly . By the way your recipes are fab !! 😉
Californiagirl thanks as always for you wise, motivational remarks . They are really useful to keep us all focused .
SG I know you will find a way to stabilize everything because you know exactly what to do .

I agree with SG’s advice Lauren. Just sit still and don’t move !!! Seriously, I hope you are feeling a bit better. You have a wedding to go to, ma girl so go steady !!!!!!

I am still collating all my recipes, things I had already found but forgotten about . I’m unfortunately not disciplined enough to log cals and other macros for every meal but am definitely keeping an eye on portions and not giving in to snacks . No nuts or choc for now and keeping things simple .

I made the tray bake ratatouille ( I think it came from caronl and it was really good) I made a keto vegetable loaf with the leftovers, adding spinach and a few herbs before baking. It’s basically a frittata in a loaf tin and it was really good .
    Here’s the recipe . I only used 5 eggs ( not 10 !! ) and it was fine .

    https://divaliciousrecipes.com/vegetable-breakfast-egg-loaf/

Have a good day everyone. I am going to do my 30 minutes pilates now . I think I have already told you about Rachel on youtube, but she is great

  • Happy Sunday to you all. I am doing well but weight loss is low. Fortunately, my BG continues to come down. 114 (6.1) for the last 2 days down from 145. Keeping insulin at 24 units. Still doing dry January although the popular news says most people caved in at the first sign of a weekend.

Verano, I know exactly what you mean about our children thinking we need looking after. When we were in the UK in October our daughters fiance told us he had seen the perfect place for us. It was a very out-dated appartment in a block that had communal laundry, dining room and sitting room. When I went a whiter shade of grey with shock he said we didnt have to use the facilities yet but thought we wanted to make friends. Not quite ready for that yet. He also wasnt aware that we would have to pay around £250 a month for the pleasure of having a communal TV and lounge.

Are you enjoying the Reversing Diabetes course. I am but I cant keep my mouth shut when people say stupid things like ‘you will die if you dont eat carbs’ . There is still a lot of misunderstanding of the diabetes element of our BSD diet. Pleased to see that there is a lot of discussion around Prof Taylor, even if some of it is totally wrong. I should keep quiet and see what the course brings. But you know me….

    Hi all
Lovely that so many of us are on the journey.
Nokie you really are in the right place. There is so much experience here xx
This really is one day at a time. When I am struggling I put a few Kg’s of vegetables in a backpack and carry it around for a few hours or more constantly reminding myself that is what just a few pounds feels like. So even if you only manage 4/7 days which is every other you are 4 days better off xx

I have lost 4.25 lbs this week, so over the moon as I now have a cushion for when I loose nothing!!
I am trying to not weigh too often as any increase on the scale I take really negatively and although I know it is temporary the brain works over time!!

Let’s buckle up, there is going to be some rough patches ahead, but we have everything we need here to get us through.
A 100 days is plenty of time to be successful so have
    a good week everyone xx

    Hi everyone,
I’m not feeling great today. I had my booster yesterday and I’m really feeling the side effects. Headache, low energy, nausea, aches and pains, etc. Not as bad as after my second jab, but enough to keep me on the couch most of the day. Better than catching the actual virus though.
I haven’t had much to eat today as a result. I’m hungry, but nauseous at the same time, so haven’t felt like much. Hopefully back on track tomorrow.

Julia (Cg) Happy New Year! Good to ‘see’ you.
Thanks for that analysis it’s really useful. I was struck by the idea that adolescent growth spurts we’re fuelled by the need for extra calories but that extra calories wouldn’t make adults grow taller! Hope you’re keeping well.
S-g glad your BS is coming down but even more pleased to hear you have made your ‘life changing’ decision and the stress has gone. Sometimes we do things to please our children that aren’t necessarily in our best interest, even if they think they are. My OH had a fall a few months ago, the fourth this year, all had a reason like tripping over a raised paving stone! But our children thought they should have a ‘chat’ with us and persuade us that the time had come to sell our bungalow and move to somewhere smaller. Assisted living wasn’t mentioned directly but it was the ‘elephant in the room’! Well I lost the plot and basically said we’d make up our own minds (we still have them!) when the time to move was right. I know they only want the best for us buttttt….
Anyway, glad you’ve made you own choice.
Lauren hope you’re fit and well soon.
Good to hear how well everyone is doing and lovely to see so much enthusiasm.
All going well here with weighing and logging but a change in diet, required for medical tests, has left me having to forget all the principles I’ve learnt over the last 5+ years …. such is life! Although I can’t bring myself to eat manufactured white ‘bread’. I remember Gillian McKeith? ( of you are what you eat, fame or infamy!) screwing up a piece of white sliced bread and it was just a ball of unforgiving white, uncooked looking dough. Put me off white manufactured bread there and then!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Looking forward to seeing how we are all feeling at the end of the first week back on track in 2022!

Hi Deuce, you have received some very useful information from JGwen so I wont repeat anything here. Firstly of all you are the same weight a me and I am at 4’11” woman. On my current attempt to lose more weight it is going quite slowly. You hear of massive weight losses on this plan but those people are in the 200lb or more category. It is frustrating – do you have anyone helping or supporting you at home.

You dont seem to have any medical problems so no need to temper advice on that score. I know this can sound counterproductive but I dont think you are eating enough, or a least not enough of the right things. You cannot break a 16 hour fast with a carrot or a boiled egg, you need to refuel. You need something with some substance like scrambling 2 eggs with some creme fraiche (or cream) and around 10g of a full fat cheese. Make sure you are getting good fats like olive oil, full fat foods like yoghurts, cheese, milk etc. Dont do the slimming versions, they are carb dense. When you do a calorie prediction for the day (menu plan) and know if you have a bit left to play with have save a snack for the evening and start your fast a bit later so you dont go to bed hungry. Then you can break your fast a little later with either a brunch or a normal timed lunch. If you are so hungry you are miserable and you wont stick to this.

Having said that, I would suggest that In the first instance you forget about TRE and have 3 evenly spaced meals throughout the day and an evening snack. You will find that after 3 or 4 days you wont be hungry and you will start to lose weight. You might want a quick fix but it obviously isnt working. Take it easy and enjoy the diet. We all do.

Would like to see you over on either 100 days to Easter thread where you can discuss each problem as it arises or go to the weekly thread where there are people of all levels i.e. newbies, 5:2, Fast800, BSD and Tre, and oldies like me and JGwen to help out.

Just one thing I will repeat, cut out the diet coke – it creates an insulin response and even though you are not diabetic, it pumps out insulin to combat what it sees as sugar. Once in the blood stream but with no sugar to tackle it has to go somewhere and stores itself as fat. I think diet foods are the causes of being overweight.

CG- great advice thank you!! Have copied that for reference and the link from Verano- I’ve not really read up on anyone else other than MM as yet.
SG- good job! And glad about the chilling in France you get to do!
Lauren- omg, how unlucky!!!!! Well done keeping up all of the good eating through this!
Elle-Mae, glad u are ok in spite of the TIAs.
Well, day 5 proper, last night I relaxed my calorie count slightly to get glass of red wine in as it was Friday. Otherwise going fine, I’m less constantly hungry and craving carbs, than pre-diet, have more energy, feeling brighter, a lot of bloating has gone, and I’m weighing 4lbs less than Tuesday.

    Love to all xxx

  • Hi there, another successful on track eating day and blood glucose coming down, will continue at higher insulin levels for a few more days then start reducing.

Lauren you are a card. I think you need to sit in a quiet place and not move for a while 🙂

Elle-mae, yes remember you were unwell some time ago. Hopefully the minor effects you are still experiencing will sort themselves out.

Californiagirl, great to see you around and your wise words always teach or remind me of something I have not thought about for a while. We can all continue learning, me after nearly 6 years on the plan. I was a bit miffed with myself when I saw my doctor as my HbA1c came in at 6.3 when it had been 5.9. I was so disappointed and told doctor I was always around 4.5 on morning tests so why wasnt my HbA1c the same. Then I realised I was only doing morning fasting measurements. Next day I did 3 different times, fasting, 2 hours after a meal and then 4 hours after meal. Guess what, my mean average came out at 6.3. So I can stop beating myself up over a small glitch. Sorry if that doesnt mean much to people, some will understand.

We have taken our house off the market and not moving back to England. You cannot believe the weight that has been lifted from my shoulders, so much stress and worry. Fortunately daughter is okay and says all we have to do is a ‘what to do’ pack in case anything happens to us. Job for the hubby as he works in welfare and knows the French system. Now lets see what jobs there are to do around the house after seeing it through the eyes of others 🙂 🙂

    Hello everyone
Welcome Denise Susan- I recognise you from the forum. Well done for sneaking aboard the bus. I am glad you have secured a seat. This is the perfect time for you to join us as it will give you plenty of time to fit into the lovely dresses for the graduations and the June wedding. My younger son got married in 2018 when I was at goal weight and I felt fantastic. I weighed 138 lbs which was 5lb heavier than my actual goal weight but I’ve decide that 138 lb is a weight I will be able to maintain longer than 133lb which I couldn’t maintain and so that is where I am heading to once again!

I had another jump on the scales this morning and I was 0.2 lb lighter than yesterday. I have been feeling really hungry this last few days, I think I need to eat a little more. I have noticed that if I eat more I seem to lose more weight! I didn’t believe it at first but I think I am right! Today I had coffee for breakfast and I’ve just made some little gem lettuce cups with red pepper hummus, roasted red peppers and pine nuts and they were delicious. My evening meal is kale and bean and pesto soup from the fast 800 recipe book – one of my favourite recipes. It more like a stew and I always enjoy it. I am of Hungarian heritage and I always feel it would be something my Hungarian family would have enjoyed making and eating (how funny is that)! I don’t know what made me even think of that!

Regarding the new keto book I was disappointed that there were not many vegetarian recipes in it. It’s hard to do keto as a vegetarian but I will use the information from the book to increase protein, follow the plan and mix and match with the blood sugar diet and the fast 800 and intermittent fasting and TRE. It will take me a week or two to build up to fasting properly. I need to get all this sugar out of my body. I am good at fasting 16:8 and my longest fasts are usually 42 hours which are easy once you get past 24 hours. I haven’t done a long fast for quite some time so I will build up to that by doing 16:8 and then increasing to 24 and 36 hours etc. I think mixing things up works for me and as a slow loser I need to keep my body guessing!

Lovely to read the posts every day and I am finding them very motivating,

  • Oh Lauren lol. Try an ice pack on your toe to reduce any swelling.
C-G very wise words 😁 Every day is a potential new beginning.
Saw a neurologist yesterday, apparently the ‘odd’ symptoms I had post 1st vaccine were probably mini TIA’s, although at the time my GP didn’t think they were and she should have sent me straight to the stroke unit and the place in the brain where I had the stroke could have resulted in very bad news. Luckily it didn’t and I am doing very well. The only long term affect seems to be my typing, gobbledegook and many missing letters so I always have to go back and correct it.
Very sunny here today and if I get my Hungarian goulash into the oven for tonight I can go for a walk.

The large weight loss some people report at the start is due to loosing stored water. – Our body has to store water to process carbs and when we move to a low carb diet it gets rid of that stored water. That rapid weight loss does not last long.

A lb of fat = 3500 calories, so discarding 1 to 2 lbs of fat a week is in the normal range.

Insulin does not only control if you are burning fat or carbs for fuel, it also controls if your body is repairing / rebuilding. So when you get to low insulin levels your body can build stronger bones and increase muscle. Both of which weigh more than unhealthy bones and muscle structures.

The pee sticks do not provide a long term reliable method of monitoring ketosis. – At the start your body produces excess ketones and gets rid of them in urine, but as time goes on it gets more economical and does not waste resources by making excess ketones. So long term, if you want to test for ketosis, then blood or breath testing for using ketones for fuel is the reliable options.

Your body is clever and sugar is highly damaging to the tissues. Think of it this way, the normal level of sugar circulating in the body of an adult = 2 teaspoons of sugar dissolved in 4.5 litres of blood. If the level rises by an additional 0.75 of a teaspoon then you could be diagnosed as diabetic. —- if you taste anything that is sweet your body presumes its going to need insulin so starts to release it. So diet drinks have an effect on insulin levels.

I would suggest joining one of the regular threads, either the weekly one, or the 100 days one where you can chat with others to ask questions and feel supported.

I would also suggest taking measurements, the scales is not a good way of monitoring progress. Discarding inches, and not just around the waist but over the whole body, is a more effective way of monitoring. You will also get whooshes, no one knows why but it will seem like you are stuck for a while and then there will be an overnight weight drop. There was a theory at one time that fat cells fill with water as the fat is used and then when all the fat out of a batch of cells is used the water is released. that theory has been proved to not be true, so they don’t know why.

  • Happy Saturday all

I’ve just got to update you all on the chronicles of Lauren!

So not only am I still partially deaf from my perforated eardrum a few weeks ago, positive for COVID (but touch wood still feeling ok), and still lingering carb flu, but I’ve also (pretty sure) broken my toe this morning kicking my partner’s 10 kg kettle bell which has basically been sat in the same corner for about a month but for some reason my foot decided to connect with it this morning.

Also was working a virtual open day, and the links didn’t get sent so I just sat there with my student for three hours 😂

Now sitting down and having lunch (chia seed pudding and a chunk of cheese) so I don’t get in any more mischief!

    Got to laugh!

    Pip pip

Californiagirl thank you that was much needed this week, I still consider myself a newbie despite doing this woe since June last year! Still so much to learn and enjoy.

Lauren fingers crossed you stay well.

January reset going ok, week 1 done and 7lbs done, little disappointed as know I’ve had blips but hopefully that will motivate me to not have them in the future and as you are just saying Sunnyb, not given up just got right back on it.

Have a lovely (if not wet) weekend for those in the UK xx

Denise Susan welcome aboard! It’s good to have you with us for the journey 🙂

I’ve had another good on-plan day with carbs under 50g (just!) and protein at 55g. I must admit I haven’t really paid much attention to macros in the past, so it will be interesting to see the difference it makes this time around.
For dinner I made the Black bean chilli recipe from the new book – this was really yummy and so cheap & easy to make with mainly store cupboard ingredients. My daughter had a serving with rice and I had mine with some sautéed shredded cabbage and a dollop of yogurt. There’s enough left for a couple of lunches too. I definitely recommend this one ☝️
