Thanks DCT I was going well and on the straight and narrow but went a bit off piste myself this evening with a few wines… but tomorrow is another day! And still expecting a loss this week as have been on plan until now and walked 10,000 steps today

As to supplements – I take Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Fish oil, Turmeric and Magnesium. The fish oil and turmeric are for joint pain (and heart health), the vitamin D because my levels are always low unless I take supplements, magnesium because I read it helps with joint and muscle health and vitamin c to
Support immunity, important with the current COVID situation. I’ve found with magnesium I’ve been sleeping better and also it helps with regularity if you know what I mean! I’ve been able to reduce some of the heavy duty meds I’m on for Rheumatoid Arthritis since increasing fish oil and turmeric – however my diet has improved too so I don’t know how much of my improvement is due to diet changes and how much is due to supplements – but I figure it can’t hurt to keep taking them 🙂

DCT, I take occasional multivitamins, once or twice a week. I don’t know if they make any difference.
I am using oat fibre that was recommended in another thread to increase my fibre because I can’t get enough fibre in 800 calories. It has no calories, no carbs, nothing but fibre. I add it to my first two coffees, it’s bearable but it doesn’t improve the taste 😂
I have in order inulin because it’s supposed to be a pre biotic that encourages the bacteria that we want to encourage.
    Nothing else.

Welcome Russianroulade! I hope we help you to achieve your goals and I’m sure you will also inspire everyone else along the way. I have a spreadsheet to track weight loss – with varying degrees of success! – and Dawn has been known to create sparkly chart masterpieces for her fridge 😀 But your goal of 19lb sounds do-able in our remaining time so good luck!

And Dawn, wow, 5lb off is amazing. Well done. Add an extra sparkly bit to your chart to celebrate! Hope you can see your dad soon.

Mariet an inch off is great! I daren’t measure myself just yet because – like you Yowzer – I’ve had a couple of wet lettuce days.(Newcomers needs to know that Yowzer threatens us with wet lettuce slaps if we’re wandering off piste!) I do need to keep motivated as I stray far too easily. But I did christen the soup maker the other day – it made butternut squash soup from raw to bowl in 20 minutes and was delicious. So I will read up on more soup recipes before my next shop.

Arcticfox glad you’re starting to feel a bit better and hope you can top up your supplies soon. Though I agree with you that sometimes necessity leads to great creative genius!

Stevoka thanks for all the exercise tips, I will look at that video. Which MM exercise app is it that you use? (Sorry, I’m sure it’s in the book, just being lazy!)

Cathy and Sue great to hear from you both and – as always – it sounds like you are ploughing forward in style. Hope you get some really good results this week.

Hello to everyone else too. Do keep posting to let us know how you are doing.

One last question . . . vitamins and supplements. Do you take them and if so what? I’m sure there have been many different posts on this over the years , but it can all get a bit overwhelming. I tend to think that if you’re having a balanced diet you don’t need them, but then we are on a very low carb diet so perhaps we do. And I’m aware that some of us on this thread (including me) are women of a certain age so may need extra this, that or whatever anyway to keep us strong. Just wondering if/what people use to supplement their diet and if anything seems particularly helpful? Thought for the day?!

    Hi all,
    Day 8……re starting…total loss over 1 week….1 lb…..14-16 lbs to go….
Also I’d like to read some things by these other gurus peeps keep mentioning….books are good (but don’t want to be reading now very out of date stuff if you know what I mean), as are internet written articles/ scientific journal articles….you tube and podcasts less so as I never get around to watching/ listening to stuff but if that’s where I need to go then I can file it for later….I feel podcasts would be a useful thing to get into….so do tell. I need inspiration!!!

    Hi everyone,
Wow, I was hit hard by the booster. Finally feeling better today, although the headache did reappear this evening, but not as bad, so that’s a big improvement. Nausea has finally gone away today as well. Here’s hoping that I have superpowers against Covid now as a result of my immune system reacting so strongly to the vaccine! Last couple of days have not been so good on the eating front as a result, but after having lentil soup out of a tin for the last several meals, I will hop back on board the bus now.
I haven’t been shopping for groceries since Dec 28th as I’m trying to use up my store cupboard and freezer ingredients. I am getting to the point where a bit of creativity is necessary to use things up without resorting to going to the supermarket for more ingredients for a particular recipe. I definitely chose the right month to stay away from shops as omicron is now ripping its way through the population. My boss is off sick with it, but I don’t work in the same region as her, and work from home anyway, so was never exposed, luckily. I am making a list of things for pickup at a major supermarket that is about 40 min away for when I do go shopping again. Will be nice to have avocados again. Just used up the last of my frozen blueberries today, so will need more of those too.
I’m going to have a few serves of chia pudding this week as I have lots of coconut milk and chia seed on hand.

    Hi everyone,

So far so good, had a bit of a heavier carb day today but all good on plan, I can definitely tell when I have too many carbs as feel bloated in the evening so low carb suits me better.
I do keep tracking but realised I don’t need to anymore as I know as I know what to eat and what not to eat and all meals apart from slight variations are from the mm books, still working my way through the new book, just not finding the time at the moment but great motivator and looking forward to trying some new recipes.

Have a good week all xx

Yowser, you’re right …. getting back on track tomorrow will ensure any damage done by your indulgence today will be negligible. I’m envious of you hair appointment…. I’ll have to wait until we’re back in Turkey to get my hair done again😔.

My positives for today are …..
👟 got off my butt and did some exercise today … idea is to do at least 10mins a day, in the hope that I can form a habit and properly incorporate exercise into my life style …. attempt No. 99,999!!! (Okay, that could be a SMALL exaggeration🤭)
🍲 made cardamom chicken for dinner … yum! Also made a very pleasant mushroom side.
🙏 Great meditation session this afternoon … love it when dropping into the zone happens effortlessly.

Three will do for me today. Would love to hear about any positives you might have, so do take a moment to share.

Tulip, draw a line under your transgretion and take things one meal at a time. If you’re tempted to eat something off plan, pause for a moment to question yourself … are you hungry / why are you thinking about eating it / how will you feel after eating it? I find if I take a moment like this, most often I’ll decide to walk away and if I don’t walk away, it’s been a conscious decision to indulge and in doing so, undertake to deal with any fall-out later.

Julia, sounds like you are having a wonderful time, enjoy! Personally, I think you are right about not fretting about the macros … or maybe that’s just because I think I’d find trying to work it all out, would just be too stressful. I follow the prioritising protein route and that’s always been successful for me thankfully.

However today has gone for you, tomorrow will dawn fresh and clean, ready for you to use it as you will, marking it with the next little bit of your story.

  • Hello from Santa Fe, New Mexico (that’s still the U.S. 🤣) — we are on a mid-winter bit of ski/culture holiday — my mom and dad left a house here when they passed away and it is a good break when we want to escape the endless California “energy”.

Luckily it’s a warm January, so at 7000 feet elevation (aaagh, what is that in meters?) we are not freezing and outdoors is cold but “do-able”. Skiing is good 3000 feet further up the mountain (Santa Fe sits at the southern terminus of the Colorado Rockies).

I am interested in the “macros” discussion as I struggled for years to figure that all out before just realizing that if you are eating well and healthfully, you WILL hit the right macros. I think it is sort of a headache to worry about them. I encourage you NOT to worry about them.

Dr Bikman (still my favorite) says “prioritize the protein” and if you do that, and fill in behind with the “good” veggies, the rest sorts itself!
Don’t work too hard!!! There is no perfect diet here. Prioritize protein, eat veggies, avoid “industrialized” carbohydrate — its easier than we think. Fiber will also sort itself.

Dr Bikman is recommending 1 – 1.5 grams protein per kilogram ideal body weight. That’s a lot of protein but research is supporting that!! Especially for older folk — it is a good starting point. I know it’s harder if you are vegetarian (don’t know if vegan can get there) so look carefully as you choose foods — maybe add in fish, extra eggs, etc.

Sounds like everyone is doing well! Sunshine girl I’m so glad you decided to stay in France! Anyone struggling, just keep trying — this is something we have to LEARN to do!! It takes some time and your gut flora/fauna needs to catch up (as JGwen says— hope you feel better soon JGwen)

Stay calm. Avoid the scales if they de-rail you (they do me!) Don’t sabotage yourself by expecting a miracle!

Bundle up, go outside! 😀😀 I personally am feeling happier as Covid recedes and Omicron is proving “mild”. I would like my full life back! Keeping my fingers crossed.

o.m.g. So I did great last week until the weekend…..which had a planned off day as I was taking middle child to Bath shopping and caffe nero was in the plan (my fave ever coffee place 😍)…..but, oops, I seem to also, as Julz put it, fallen off the wagon….I forgot that every time I restart if I try to go low cal at the same time as low carb I end up grabbing whatever sh**e (carbs) are at hand…..so, lesson, re- low carb myself, then drop the cals….and I really don’t think I can take a weekend break till I shift this weight…does that sound sensible?
Also my mood has dropped again….which also contributed to today’s carbage….but it won’t help me (or my mood)….
Also like Julz, the one thing I didn’t drop over the no-diet period was walks and runs, and I returned to Zumba this week too….I had a good run this afternoon.
Anyhow, help me fix this carbage peeps, all advice welcome! I need to get back on the proper med style tomorrow (well, planning a no carb dinner tonight as well and overnight 12 hr TRE as usual) and soon after drop the cals properly to 800 (I am thinking Thurs)…

  • JGwen, I have never actually watched one as they want me to subscribe and pay a fee and, is it American because the live videos were in the middle of the night for me. These, however, look like easy access something like YouTube so will give it a look.

  • Hi everyone, great to see so much energy and enthusiasm. Lets keep it up.

Lauren, no wonder you are feeling so good. 7.8lbs is great and all your wellness is kicking in – although be careful what you kick.

Weight loss for this week is 2.6lbs. Not bad for someone who never actually strays much – even Christmas Day, no mash, no roasties, no mince pies or cake. Maybe a few too many wines. Funnily enough I have really learnt to pace myself where alcohol is concerned. Family had a cocktail evening with sil (to be) making lots of weird and wonderful things. First of all they are usually too sweet for me, so just take a sip to try. It was fun to watch everyone getting rather merry while I stayed sober and still enjoyed myself and joined in the dancing – grandson teaching me some shapes 🙂 Anyway back to the subject. So I only gained just under 3 lbs over the whole holiday period and now lost most of that. Also lost 2.5 inches which is as it should be – 1 inch for every pound is about right.

Did my first exercise session this morning so that might give me a boost. And as usual I then jump on my wiifit to formally log my results – it is about as high tech as I get although I do have Garmin Connect. I was going to make an effort and go swimming each Wednesday but maybe with covid numbers around 100k it might not be such a good idea. They have been as high as 300k so hopefully things are getting better.

Have a gret week everyone and koko…

Hi Deahn1957. Notice you are T2 and using insulin. What are your long term goals on this diet. I am on insulin and would love to come off it but not managed in 6 years, mainly due to never quite reaching an idea weight as I have to live with this every day and somedays it is hard. However, I have gone from using 40 units daily down to 12 units and think I am nearly there, need a conversation with my doctor in the next couple of months when I have a check up.

    hello everyone
Great to read some fantastic first week results! I am so glad we all got ourselves back in control early in January. I haven’t found this first week easy at all, I’ve really struggled with hunger. I am hoping to be back in the 140s on Fridays weigh in! I’ve increased my intake a little bit because I think my weight loss stalls when I eat too little so I’ll do an experiment over the next couple of weeks. Before Christmas I managed to get down to 147 lb eating a little more so I’ll see how things go. Today I’ve had coffee for breakfast and egg and cottage cheese salad for lunch. I will have broccoli and Stilton soup for my evening meal and some yoghurt with raspberries and dark chocolate. I need to increase my water consumption.

I am hoping for a pound or two to be gone when I weigh myself on Friday, when I first starting this way of eating I used to weigh every day but once a week is enough for me now as I get upset when I see it go up and down during the week. To be honest I think weighing once a fortnight would even be better for me but I will stick with weekly weigh ins to keep me on the straight and narrow. I don’t like to give the scales too much power and I admire those who don’t weigh themselves. Clothes are a perfect way to know if your losing/gaining.

    Have a good week everyone.

I found the recipes in the accompanying BSD recipe book a lot more appetising than those at the back of the BSD book. So that’s worth an investment.

But without preaching – this IS going to be a change in your way of eating. For me (2 years in now) I have found my tastes have completely changed and as a previous ‘fussitarian’ (great term @ybr) I now eat dishes and meals I wouldn’t have touched before.

As time goes by you will find recipes and meals that suit, and learn to adapt your current favourites. Or maybe you try that now.

Lauren …. woohoo!! That’s a brilliant scales result🎉🎊🥳. Hope the zoom meeting for your wedding venue goes well and that ultimately you get that special day you have been waiting so long for.
Julz …. I too fell off the wagon. My solution (such as it is) is to begin slowly. Taking on too much at once, might give you too much of a burden in one go. Why not concentrate on ditching the alcohol and reigning in the carbs, as your initial foray back for this week? Next week, if you have been in control, add in pulling down portion size. Don’t worry about weighing in at the moment. If I know I have gained, I often give myself a week or two of more controlled eating, before braving the scales.
The meditation avoidance might be, as you say, a subconscious block associated with a worry about dealing with locked emotions. Have you ever used EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)? It’s very good for shifting emotional blocks, this link gives reasonable directions in how to use EFT, if you want to take a look. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/326434#overview

Had a pretty good low carb day yesterday and haven’t yet broken my overnight fast today, will hang on until I’m hungry. This evening, I’m going to try out Cardamom Chicken.
    Hope your day goes well.

RubyG and hubby hanging on, him better than me at the moment (but then he has blood tests to look forward to).
I am still eating my body weight in cheese 🙂 after all the Christmas cheese, we still bought more nice cheese at the farmers’ market on the weekend!
And although I didn’t buy nuts when I went shopping last week – I found some in the cupboard!
I have weighed everything we’ve eaten over the past few days, but not entered it into MFP – not very useful, but I seem to be maintaining at the moment (again) and struggling to find my why to lose that stone that I really should lose. I’ll find it again 🙂
Hubby found a photo on his phone last night from an event we attended in May 2018, we weren’t at our largest then by any means, but the photo horrified him.
I have skim-read the last few days’ worth of posts, with a mix of people’s stories, successes and struggles – we are all on our own path but the support here is great.
Today’s Action for Happiness calendar says “Switch off all your tech at least an hour before bedtime” – this gives me a good excuse to get stuck into the new MM book.
    Have a good week all.

Oh well, maintenance is better than a gain, but I do need to find my why as it seems to have gone walkabout yet again.
    But, hanging in there!

  • Hello and happy new year my BSD friends.

Well i feel I have completely fallen off the wagon, not only that but i can almost see it running away into the sunset without me. Looking for a bit of help to catch it up and hop back on and enjoy the ride!
I’ve been ‘mindful’ but certainly over indulged for, er…., far too long really, need a bit of courage to stand on the scales and face where i am at. It cant be good…. my size 12 jeans that i worked so hard to get into are certainly on the very snug side!!
    Mission……
    – dry january – so far so good! I cant believe this is me, i have never struggled not to want a drink but last year i think has taken its toll and its a habit i MUST break so i am 100% committed on that front!
    – ditch the carbs – I’m struggling, i can go one day, then eat a cracker or 6….. I know i need to make it to day 3 or 4 and it will get easier. I just have to make myself get there.
    – rein in the portions and calories….this will be easier without the carbs….. currently when i eat i want to overeat…. it is not fun!!
    – meditation… i need to find a way back to this, something in me is making me avoid it….I’m not sure why, i got a lot from it, dont know if im self sabotaging or I just dont feel i want to unlock some of the emotional stuff that is in there….although consciously i know unlocking it brings me peace…..

I think maybe regular posting on here will help me be accountable to the above…… Today – consumed so far 2 x white coffees. Planned….. er, I have left over veggies from Sunday to make into a soup plus a couple of slices of roast beef to have with salad. I shall commit to NO pudding and NO crackers! I am also going to run 5km this evening – the one thing i have managed to do reasonably is keep running! Biggest achievement over festivities was a half marathon on Hogmonay, but jings it was a challenge, would be much easier a bit leaner and fuelled by fat not carbs!!

So please may i chase your wagon? can someone dangle something off the back to entice me and help me grab on?
So glad to see familiar people in here and still keeping on…. you are a great bunch!

    Welcome back Russian!

Well I’ve just checked in for the week and have lost 7.8lb – this is the best loss I’ve ever had on any plan in my first week and so I’m hoping it means either I’m finally doing something right, or my body is just ready. I know these losses will slow and I’m prepared for that, I’m also taking measurements as advised although I don’t know if I’m very good at doing that as they never seem to be very consistent! Not stressing over macros, I’ll keep tweaking but at the moment I seem to be low carb enough to be having an impact on insulin resistance so fingers crossed it stays that way. Fortunately I’ve not had to drop below 20g to get there so I have that as a back up if I need to tweak some more.

I also, although haven’t tested, think I might actually be in ketosis for the first time ever – I actually feel quite “well” today – not buzzing with energy but I rarely do with all my long term health issues, but I feel about as well as I ever do and I’m not actually hungry which is very unusual for me, so I think my body might have finally “flipped the switch”!

We have a venue meeting for our wedding today which we have to do over zoom as I’m still in self isolation, but it’s all actually beginning to feel like it might actually happen after 2 years of disappointment so fingers crossed everyone!

Hope all are well and have a fantabulous Tuesday

    L xx

Dawn 5lb is fantastic – well done 👍 it’s a shame that you couldn’t see your dad, hope you can visit him soon.

I’ve had another good day, with carbs at 35g. I was up early (5.30am) and walked for just over an hour before work.
Breakfast was the Baked eggs, spinach and chorizo recipe from the new book, I enjoyed this one. I had prepared the spinach and chorizo last night so just had to finish it off in the morning.
For lunch I reheated the leftover salmon from last nights dinner and then for dinner tonight I made some lentil curry, husband and daughter had rice and flat breads with theirs and I had cauli rice with mine.
I just put another online grocery order in for the end of the week as the time slots were quickly filling up. Again lots of unavailable items so I’m going to have to get a bit creative with my meal plan! At least I have loads of recipes to choose from, between all the BSD & Fast 800 books I have!

    Hi Stevoka,

Wendy asked me to answer a question by Louise, so I summarized the information I have gained from years of looking at the output from a number of experts to try to address the question on why macros are more important than calorie counting and why Dr’s are not too worried about the precise number of calories from veg. The info about calories came from a podcast by Dr Bikman, the article about blood sugar levels in teaspoons is one I read a few years ago and put a link to it on the Take a Look at This thread, Professor Longo is the person who is focused on research on the benefits of periods of zero protein and autophagy.

The different experts in the fields of low carb / keto are doctors who have come at it from different starting points. So for example Dr Fung comes from working in a practice treating patients. While Dr Bikman is a professor working on research at a cellular level. He has been making presentations at conferences for a number of years as well as appearing on various podcasts, so there are quite a lot of hours of talks he has given which are available online. We used to have a system on the forum were as well as having a weekly, monthly and positive threads we had a thread that we posted links to articles, podcasts and research that interested us. If you look for the Take a Look at This thread you may find items that interest you.

There is now a separate commercial team under the InsulinIQ banner who run weekly podcasts of about an hour length on different topics which Dr Bikman is a panel member. There are also short like 10 minute long videos where he looks at different research papers as they are published. You could search through the InsullnIQ website, or facebook page looking the topics that interest you.

Normally I would be able to point you to the podcast that the info on the explanation of the difficulties in researching how many calories in food make it through to the cells, but I have not been up to my normal mental capacity for a few months. I am an Aspie, so I do like to follow articles on the science, but I caught Covid back in early June and have been suffering from a brain fog and fatigue for a few months.

Are there any particular articles, podcasts you would recommend by him where you’ve found the information you mentioned?

    Hi Lauren,

Just a quick reply while I wait for a facebook training event to start. – There s no mechanism in your body which responds to the number of calories you eat, your body does respond to the amount of carbs, fat and protein in your diet.

I like Dr Bikman’s explanation about the reason for not sweating too precisely on the number of calories.
All the statistics on the calorie value of every food stuff comes from how much energy is created by burning it in a lab setting. –

When we eat food we chew it, different ways of chewing will effect the success of the digestive processes in the stomach
Then it goes into the gut where the gut bacteria break it down and in the process are fed themselves by it.
Finally it goes through the gut lining (how easily depends on health of the gut lining) and is used by the body, but how it is used is controlled by hormone systems which are responding to the mix of macros (carbs, fat, protein).

Therefore there are so many variables for each person that no scientist can tell you how much of the calories in that cauliflower floret will make it through the gut lining and how it will be used by your body.

Obviously, if there is a big mismatch between the number of calories you eat and use 9ie eat 5000 calories a day and have a desk based job) there is a problem.. If you want to discard weight you do need to be in a calorie deficit, but the key to remember is that calories in / calories out model for discarding weight has been discredited. Its the make up of carbs, fat, protein in your diet which controls how your body responds to food.

The most important is the impact your food has on your insulin levels. High insulin your body is focused on getting harmful sugar out of your blood stream, low insulin your body is able to burn body fat for fuel. ———- – Insulin levels is not necessarily just the number of carbs, for example artificial sweeteners trigger an insulin response.

A fact that helped me understand how sensitive the body is to carbs was a paper which described blood sugar levels in terms of teaspoons of sugar dissolved in blood. The average adult human has 4.5 litres of blood. Normal blood sugar level is equal to 2 teaspoons of sugar dissolved in that 4.5 litres of blood. – The level of additional sugar which would be in the blood stream if you are diagnosed as diabetic and have sugar levels which are causing harm to your body is an extra 0.75 of a teaspoon. – That’s why our bodies are so quick to release insulin to get any sugar in anything we eat out of our blood that insulin is released if we just taste something which is sweet, so even artificial sweeteners trigger an insulin response.

Experts are now saying they think over 80% of the population in developed countries are Insulin resistant. – A state where our bodies have been fed diets which trigger an insulin response for so long that it has to produce extra insulin to force the body to react to the sugars in the diet. – There are a lot of health implications for being insulin resistant. Not just it being a stepping stone towards diabetes.

If you have low insulin levels your body is in fat burning mode (ketosis) that means that your body will first use the fat in your diet for fuel and when that is used will turn to your body fat for fuel. So providing you are in ketosis, healthy fats in your diet just limit the rate at which your body turns to your own fat stores for fuel.

The final figure is protein levels, here the experts are divided on the importance of protein to provide the material to build muscles v no protein to trigger autophagy to cause your body to break down old cells to build new cells.

    Hi everyone,
checking in for my first completed week. No change on the scales but then I had far too much wine at a party on Saturday. But I have a happy NSV, an inch each from midriff, waist and belly. Yay! That’s really given me a lift.
No trouble so far sticking to fresh veg, healthy fats and lean protein. It’s so hot and sticky here I hardly feel like eating at all so my daily carbs are under 25. Apart from that champagne blip on Saturday that is.
I have bought a puppy, she will be coming next month. I have previously always had rescue dogs but the last one was such a disaster, ending up having to go live with my mother and her dog because he could not cope when I went to work. Now I feel quite nervous about another rescue dog so have bought a little Shih Tsu from a nearby registered breeder. I’m really excited, I’ve waited seven years until I could be home with a puppy, can’t wait! So when she is old enough, walks with her will be another impetus to get out each day. With my last darling dogs, the moment I got home from work they would start jumping up and down un front of the broom cupboard where their leads were kept 🙂 As a result I walked every day.
Dawn I am delighted for you, 5lb! That’s fantastic, well done.
    Onwards and downwards everyone!

    Hi all,

I’ve been on one of the other threads on and off for the past two years, but could do with setting another goal. Back in 2020 I started on the Fast 800 and lost 11 pounds, but then the pandemic struck and I gained them back and more. By the end of the year I was the heaviest I’d been. I shifted that weight almost immediately in 2021, but have spent most of the last year hovering around the 11stone7 mark. I briefly got under 12 in the summer, but birthdays and booze soon put pay to that. So here I am at 11 stone 10 and desperate to make it to 10 stone 5. I am determined and keen to be part of an inspiring and motivating group. So day one is done. Let’s hear it for the next 97 days!

Hi SUNNY et al,a grey day here too,but glad you could summon up some good news SUNNY X
A very quiet day here but I’ve got my thinking cap on…
    Positives..
*~ my first day back to normal after an extended New Year festivity! Fasted and then had a veg sausage with broc, and a 10 cal jelly,so I’m back on my low carby horse ….clippety clop!
*~ Tried to be more active, and succeeded ..kept busy and in between jobs and exercise I enjoyed listening to a very gripping audiobook.
*~ In bed now, watching tv on IPad..I’ve realised if I sit in the lounge watching tv I want drinks and nibbles..if I’m in bed, somehow food and drink doesn’t even enter my greedy little head! So I’m going to do that more often,at least til we get to springtime 😃
So all in all,a satisfactory day 🌟😁🌟😁🌟
And a third of Jan has now passed! I don’t want us to wish our lives away, but for many people,January feels like the gloomiest of months..Feb seems much more promising ( for me,with Pancake Tues,Vals Day and Beaus bday) and it’s waiting round the corner xx

  • Evening all. Russian Roulade reporting for duty. As promised to myself this is week one. The Christmas cheese has gone, the panettone demolished, the crisps vanished. The carbs have left the building. Feeling buoyed and ready to do these 8 weeks. Aiming for a stone loss, that would take me almost back to my 2014 weight, so am really going to commit myself. There’s a lot of positivity on this thread, so let’s motivate each other.

    🚗 DD’s car passed it’s MOT today …. she’s very relieved.
🍲 made a veggie meal for dinner, which A) OH said he’d be okay with and B) also said he quite enjoyed. High praise from someone quite veg adverse.

Think that’s it for today. Hope there were some positives in your day …. hope to read some of them later.

Well I’m back for week 2. Good to still see so much positivity here especially as we are living ‘blue Monday’ today.
I’m just going to carry on weighing and logging this week. Just pleased that I’m only 3.2lbs away from my original goal of 10% loss. Can’t really believe I did so well in 2016/17 and am now trying to get back to my first 10% loss. Such is life but I’ll get there this week or next, no pressure, and can then set my next goal.
    Have a good week everyone.

Wendy I have to say I have never bothered with macros but after reading the latest MM book I thought I might try. I am bogged down and as I’ve never had real problems in that ‘department’, so maybe I should just go back and do what I always did!
Not been a bad first week for me as I’m back into the ‘groove’, and look forward to seeing everyone on Week 2, 2022!

Haha Lauren, glad to know you are starting to feel better 😁
I was a bit bad yesterday had a Burger King, interestingly later on although not feeling hungry I did want to eat, but I resisted, proving that carbs do make you want to eat more. However the scales have me back to my pre Christmas weight.
I was making a leek and parsnip soup earlier and it reminded me that I used to slice through the leeks vertically and open up the individual leek slices and use them as fake lasagne sheets.
Hope everyone has a good week

Thanks for the new thread Wendy, I agree that the energy on the weekly thread has been buzzing and a pleasure to be around. You are so right about scales readings not being the be all and end all. It’s so important to look at the bigger picture and idebtufy the other benefits of this way of eating …. clearer skin, sleeping better, clothes fitting better, etc.

Great to see you so upbeat Lauren despite your various ills, your positivity is impressive. Glad you are feeling better … hopefully you’ll soon be fully fit again.

My week has been okay, definitely more controlled. Digestive transit isn’t back to normal yet post festive indulgence and I think that is messing with my scales readings. Overall though, feeling better for being in a more normal pattern of eating.

Will be around this coming week, although with a birthday in a few days and visiting with parents, sticking to my normal eating may be challenged. Will do my best to make good choices and stay in control though.

Whatever your results from the past week, just focus on now and making the next meal a good BSD choice. Have a great week everyone.
