Brilliant! Well done you! Isn’t it amazing what we can achieve when we stick to it!
What do you plan to do next?im in a similar position and am mulling around different ideas. 5:2 with 800 on the two and continuing with the under 50 carbs is my current thinking.
Are you watching the Sewing Bee BBC 2 programme, if you like altering clothes?
Again, well done!

Oh! I never watch normal TV so I miss adverts for these types of thing. Thank you for mentioning it I will check it out on the iplayer 🙂
As for my plans well, I’ve given it some thought and I’m going to do my own version of the diet. My losses are moderately slow as it is and I fear that moving to 5:2 may slow it down more than I would like, however I would love to be able to eat a little more sometimes. So I have decided that 5 or 6 days/week I will stick to 800 and 1 or 2 days per week I will just follow BSD guidance of eating the right food and keeping carbs low. It just allows for some snacking on staying in date nights with a movie etc. I made some lovely salsa and carrot crisps earlier in the 8 weeks and I’d be happy eating those when hubby has his doritos! Also I’ve found a recipe to make low carb tortilla chips. So it is that type of thing I would add in to a free day… Not the old usual rubbish.
-
Mmmm, snacks. I’d forgotten them. One advantage of living on my own is that I don’t have to watch other people eating those things I can’t have anymore! Although I do still buy a portion of chips on Wednesday lunch time and share them out between my grandson and two dogs, because they have all come to expect them! What a martyr!
-
I don’t suppose they would accept my carrot chips haha
-
End of week 4, another 1.8kg 😝😝😝Wahoooooo! Half way to 8 weeks, can’t believe how quickly time is going!
If anyone is considering starting today, give it a go, the time will pass anyway and it is really interesting to try out and could have exciting results! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
-
Well done Epspecially! That’s fab news. End of week 4 for me today too – 2.5lbs! Yay! 🤓
-
Yayy, great stuff Loren – go us! :-)))
-
Congratulations to everyone, fabulous results! Onwards and upwards
I am just finishing week 5 today, down 1 stone or 9.5% of my total starting weight, with another pound gone since last week.
Into my size 27 non-stretch jeans, which had never fitted since I bought them (under the impression that the stretch fabric of my other pairs didn’t make a difference….ooooh no)
My Target is another 8 lbs to go, which would be 9 stone and 15% of starting body weight – don’t know if I’ll really get there, or if I’ll just look at the measurements and stop when it feels right. There is still a flob (technical term) of belly fat to go, waiting with interest to see what will happen…..
In other news, OH got himself into size 34 jeans and a size M shirt yesterday (he generally wears size 36 slung low – if you know what I mean – and an XL shirt). Also needs another belt, as he’s got to the last hole on this one. Not losing much weight at present, which is fine by him, but the measurements are certainly shifting! Hopefully in the end this may get him off his two metformin.
Onwards and upwards/downwards everyone, and have a great day/week/ongoing journey with the BSD!

Week 8 weigh in for me. I’ve always been a slow loser so although I have a lot to lose I have lost 21 lbs. not bad given that I went off piste on holiday and gained 6 lbs a couple of weeks ago.
A bit of history; I was a slim size 12 when I got married 28 years ago but gradually put on weight exacerbated by PCOS, IVF treatment (failed) and the emotional fallout from that. Add to that the stress of a teaching career and the lack of regular eating patterns which would lead to binge eating. My downfalls bread, puddings and wine. I am the graduate of every diet going WW, SW, Atkins, Cambridge, Lighter Life – you name it I’ve tried it. All given up through boredom or unsustainabilty. Each time saw me putting on more weight than I had lost. At the start of this year I was 17 stone and size 20 in denial, preferring to squeeze into bulging Size 18 than buy clothes that fitted.I was about to start Jo Wickes’ programme but having bought his book and trying a couple of recipes I couldn’t cope with the huge size of the portions and I wasn’t fit enough to do the required exercises. Then I read about the BSD. I’m not diabetic but there is a family history of diabetes and my cousin had just died prematurely with diabetes related dementia.
Week One I lost 3lbs but 3 inches off my waist! Since then with the exception of week 3 when I had a bit of a plateau I have lost steadily. I’m now size 16 and at the start of this week I was delighted to see a 14 at the start of my weight. Even more importantly I have loads of energy and having last week wallpapered and painted my dining room this week I am tackling the jungle of a garden outside.
The blip on holiday would normally have derailed me but I’m no longer on a diet I am just eating differently. Returning to the BSD , not only did I lose the 6lbs in days but my weight loss seems to have speeded up. So now I’m knocking on the door of the eight week lounge, can I come in? I still have a long way to go but for once I’m not daunted by it, I’m looking forward to the journey. -
so many great stories, well done everyone 🙂
-
First week over for me and 3 kg down – Yay!!!! Not finding it hard at all and not hungry. Best wishes to all on the programme – I am looking forward to week 2. Love reading everybody’s posts about their experiences.
-
Brilliant result Marg38, how encouraging! Really pleased you are enjoying the experience! Here’s to a successful week 2!
-
Has anyone experienced weight loss but no shift at all in waist measurements? I’m in my fourth week.
-
I lost 3 inches in the first week and nothing since but I have lost elsewhere. I wish I’d measured more parts but my trousers falling down is a big clue as to where it’s coming off.
-
Hi I’m starting week 3 bit of a blip at the weekend as we had my daughters hen doo so over done it on the alcohol 😨 but still 10lbs down in just over 2 weeks .
I love reading all the posts and I am now getting into the routine of preparing and planning my meals for the week .
Here’s to another good week ( less the tequila shots this time ) -
Fantastic! Well done!

Hi Baristagirls,
Yes I did. I lost weight in the first couple of weeks and weight was coming off of my hips and bust, but proportionally not moving from my waist. I was sticking to the 800 cals but not checking my carbs. I decided to try using shakes for a couple of weeks and as we cannot get the ones the Newcastle team use in the shops, I bought one from Boots. That was made with skimmed milk and each portion was 200 cals – so 3 a day plus soup or salad to get up to the 800. I was getting 100-120g carbs a day – and to lost the fat around your waist you need to be half that – it varies per person – I moved to real food, my own recipes – (I am veggie) and stuck at 60g carbs per day targeting 800 cals – but if I was too low of carbs to get my carbs up, I would go over the 800 and likewise if my carbs were going to go over 60g, then I changed my later meal to under 800 cals. For me that level worked – for others they go to 50g. You will need to find your own level.
Once I did that the inches started to come off of my waist.
Check what you are eating for ‘hidden’ carbs. Also – it is important not to vary too much the carbs per day – the body responds best to consistency.
Hope that helps -
Thanks Orchid. The difficulty is, I have carefully logged all carbs and have never gone more than 30-40g day max, often more like 20. So that’s a bit annoying! I don’t want to increase them at all as I am trying to curb candida as well. I wondered about doing some specific exercises to try and take an inch or two off the waist but it’s almost impossible at the moment as my stomach is ravaged with die-off! Just can’t understand why it hasn’t got just a centimetre smaller……

Hi Baristagils,
Hmmm. There is a book by Jenny Ruhl called ‘Low Carb Problems Solved’ which you can get via Kindle (£3.06) – which goes through the things that can cause Low Carb diets to stall, it may be worth have a read at that to see if there s anything else that might be stalling you – however you are losing weight so the diet is working, but you may not be burning fat which normally shows in a reduction on the waistline. You can check his using Ketostix – put ‘Ketostix’ into the search engine for the forum for where to get them etc.
Hope that helps. -
Well I am unbelievably in my 10th week and have lost 25 pounds. That is VERY good for me, especially as I had a weeks holiday within that period, and also a few days overall when we were socialising and I ate more carbs than I should. It is an average of 2.5 pounds per week, and I haven’t done any exercise yet to speak of.
I sort of feel a bit deflated, as hardly anyone has commented on my loss yet, and I know I have so much more to lose, at least another 4 stone, and really should be more, it’s a bit daunting .I feel that when I’ve lost anther stone, I will really be getting somewhere. It’s best to break it up into smaller amounts, so I have a short term goal, i.e. be 14 stone something …. that hasn’t been the case for years.
Being veggie my choices are more limited and I don’t want to get fed up with the food.So this weekend I’m going to try some new recipes I’ve printed off, and hopefully freeze some for weekdays. I was sick of salad at work, so took veggie quorn chilli in today, was delish and very satisfying.
Also wanted to say thanks to all you regular posters, you really inspire me to keep going. I’m sure there are many other lurkers who are helped by your posts. xx

Hi barby,
Know what you mean about no one remarking on your weight loss! I met up with some friends recently that I hadn’t seen in more than eight weeks (lost 31lbs on BSD800), no one noticed…now I know I have a lot of weight to lose but…really!!!😕
I have another 4 – or more – stone to lose so will be sticking to the plan. I try not to think too far ahead, like you just aim for the next goal.
Congratulations on your loss up till now!
-
That’s fantastic Barby – well done.
Most of my friends know I’m dieting – largely the lack of alcohol and restraint when eating out, so they’re all very encouraging, but I think people that you know less well maybe don’t comment because they don’t know how/why you’ve lost weight, and don’t want to offend.
There’s also that phenomenon of picturing people how they were when you first knew them – and not being that observant about changes! I still mentally picture my best friend with long blonde hair – which she did have when we first met about 30 years ago.
Also, despite overhearing conversations about buying diet shakes online, I failed to notice that a colleague had lost three stone. It was just before I started BSD – I wasn’t as insensitive to be prattling on about my own weight & not notice hers.sound like you’re doing really well – keep at it, they will notice at some point!
I hadn’t realised because I weigh in kilos, but I’m almost almost at the 14 stone something – 15.02! -
Thanks Imogen and Frog – I have just gone through my tops and removed all those that now look too big and unflattering. It’s so lovely to wear something that hasn’t fitted for at least 5 years – I know, even if no one else does (yet!).
This is the first “diet” I’ve ever stuck to for so long, and I feel confident I can do it forever. That’s not to say I won’t have some extra carbs such as new potatoes etc, but thank goodness I’ve lost my desire for junk food. That is such a mental relief. Onwards and downwards 🙂
-
Feel like not weighing again! I’ve stayed the same weight for a whole week now. Halfway through week 4. Demoralising, as I want to eat more anyway but determination keeps me going. It would help if there was weight loss to keep me going too. No point in throwing in the towel and cheating my health but I feel rather down about it.
-
Oh Baristagirls I really feel for you , but it happened to me , I kept going but reassessed what I was eating just changed it a little . Now in week 6 ( missed a week due to the loss of my dog ) and the weight has started to go down but for me much slower now at 17lbs . I also went back to measuring , huge evidence we don’t get portion size right. Always use a smaller plate etc etc.
Hang in there there are plenty of us here also struggling a little. What is interesting is I do not want to slip off it? I have never felt like that about any other plan .my other thoughts are that I am not eating rubbish processed food or potatoes, bread, rice or pasta . It has taken me a while for my body to adjust to the higher fat and I think when I switched to high fat from low fat my body needed to adjust and now it has but slowed the weight loss down as calories are bit higher and we can not deny basic physics do more eat less.
I’m sending you good karma and positive thoughts it’s a process and forever on going but oh so much better than where we have come from – defo for me.
🐾🙋🏻🚴🍎🌶🍓 -
Sounds like the dreaded plateau Baristagirls, but don’t give up. EVERY person losing weight plateaus at some point. It’s almost like the body needs to readjust before the next bit of loss.
Also, regarding the waist, it is well documented that this is the hardest place to shift fat from, but it will come, you just need to keep on going.
Also, there aren’t any specific exercises that burn fat from one particular area. People do situps thinking that it torch the fat in their bellys, which is rubbish. BUT, that’s not to say that situps don’t help. If you develop your abs (even if like mine they covered up!) so they are bigger and stronger you won’t lose fat from your belly, but it will tighten everything up a bit.
If I were you I’d carry on doing the BSD and also try and work in some strength exercises, specifically targeting the larger muscle groups, namely the glutes (your bum), hamstrings & quads (your legs) and latisimus dorsi (your back). Those are the largest muscle groups in the body and the more lean muscle mass you have, the more fat you burn! Obviously consult a PT and/or your doctor before starting anything like this.
I think deadlifts have been shown to be the most fat burning exercise in existence (don’t quote me on that though), so if you can do them safely, then you might want to consider them.
-
Thanks for the encouragement both. I do weigh my food and have a small plate. It’s all a bit puzzling. And I’ve stepped up even more on the water.
Just have to push on.
We can do this! -
I agree, Baristagirls, it all can be really puzzling this weight plateau/small gains.
I’ve been measuring my fat burning with Ketostix, and keeping carbs very low (don’t have a lot to lose) and I’m enjoying the BSD and finding it fine to do – and trying to focus (you may have seen this from some of my contributions to threads) on Measurements rather than weight.
So this morning my Ketostix said I was not in Ketosis and therefore not burning fat – not sure why, must be overall balance of nutrients, though I’m trying to keep fat high.
On the other hand, I’d lost another pound this morning, down to 9st 7lbs, which means I’ve lost 15lbs or over 10% of my body weight in 5 weeks. Which is great by anyone’s measures.
The only thing is to keep following the principles, and IT WILL HAPPEN!
Very best of luck to all.
-
Week 3 + 1 day <G> I’ve lost a total of 10 lbs. Also, my waist has gone down by an inch and I have lost an inch off each of my thighs! I have always had fat legs, even when I was young and skinny, my legs were fat!
I find that drinking lots of water helps. At work I try and drink 3 glasses of water in the morning, and 3 in the afternoon. At home I now drink my water from a pint glass. It helps me keep track of how much I’ve had, and I find I empty a pint glass at the same rate I used to empty a normal sized glass.

Hi Barby – well done, especially having had a holiday in that period!
Don’t worry about people not saying anything – the best I got was ‘you are looking well’. Bit by bit people are commenting. My hairdresser did this week and said she had noticed but had not wanted to say anything as it implied I had needed to lose weight and I had been fine as I was! I had a BMI of 33 so I was not fine, but people worry you could be ill and that is why you are losing weight or that there is an implied criticism of how you were.
Keep going – I agree with your comments on being veggie – not having rice and pasta available make it hard :-(. Have you tried a frittata yet – it is my newest discovery and tastes great; also nice next day cold for lunch. -
Yes that’s probably right Orchid, I have looked so awful for ages, people don’t comment at all. Never mind, one day it will happen.
I love omelettes, not sure how a frittata differs? Is it part cooked in frying pan, then put under grill? I used to love frying sliced tinned potatoes ten adding to a spanish omelette, now I have onion, tomatoes, possibly courgettes, peppers, spinach and/or cheese with chives and seasoning.
I have been sitting here for last half hour and my tummy is making so many extremely rumbling loud noises, I’ve eaten nothing yet today, I htink I am really hungry now. That was unheard of pre BSD!! Think I’ll go and make an omelette 🙂
-
Hello, I haven’t been around for a few weeks (very busy at work as am about to leave and am trying to leave things tidy!). I’d like to offer a bit of motivation for those who are thinking that they can’t manage 800 calories a day so think this isn’t the ‘diet’ for them. It isn’t the only way to do it!
I stuck to 800 calories for one week and lost 10lbs but knew that I couldn’t maintain that kind of restraint so went straight to the ‘low carb/med style’ way of eating. I have now lost 29lbs in 14 weeks which included one birthday and one holiday! My hope was to lose some weight and (hopefully) decrease my chances of following in my diabetic mum’s footsteps.
Someone asked me recently how long I was going to carry on and my answer was simple, for good. This is far and away the easiest way I have ever lost weight and with the exception of the first week when I felt a bit deprived I have had absolutely no problems at all sticking to it.
-
Week 8 day 1
In week 7 I lost 1.4 lbs and 2.25 inchesOverall in the past 7 weeks I have lost
24.5 inches and 25.1 lbs.I have stayed on the 800 plan and will do so at least until I am in the normal range of weight for my height and I have a long way to go.
It’s been easy to stay on and we eat out a lot as well. I just look on the menu for thugs I can eat and ask for that even if it’s mixing up their menu items. Everyone is very nice about it.
Best to all of you! 💜
-
You eat thugs? 😉
-
Controversial, but one way to get rid of them!
-
HapyLife, thanks for your ideas and suggestions. Great on your loss. Yes, eat the thugs but how many calories and carbs must we count
-
Thugs = things
Posting for those above who could not creatively work around auto correct typing issues.
😍 -
gave me a chuckle Happy Life…. always good x
-
If you’re eating thugs, only go for the full fat ones:)
-
Yay for the weight and inches lost as well as the new thug reduction service offered by Happy!
-
Sorry, not eaten any thugs – maybe later!
Today’s weigh in – loss of 3 pounds. Total now 67 pounds at end of week 26. 😃
-
captainLynne you are fantastic! well done 🙂
Half a year in case you hadn’t noticed and what a difference you must have made to your health, appearance and well being!
-
Hats off to you captainlynne. That is truly amazing.
-
Congratulations to Captainlynne, fantastic and inspirational results! Onwards and downwards!
Halfway through week 6, 16 lbs or 1st 2 lbs, or 7.25kg lost, which is nearly 11% of my body weight.
Given up sugar, no refined carbs except a Pret wrap after some wine….., enjoying food thoroughly.Discussion with friend yesterday when she said how great I looked, she has rushed off to get book for husband, m-i-l and also quite keen to review for herself, who is not Type 2, and just would like to lose a relatively small amount of weight to feel better (like me).
Push through the plateaux, keep reviewing the measurements and not the weight, and keep feeling good! 🙂
-
Just coming to the end of week 5. Total loss of 34lbs so far!!! Just over 11% of starting weight!
-
Lynne, you continue to be an inspiration and clients I work with who have just started on this plan I tell to seek out your posts for inspiration as well as Bill1954 and Hashimoto as the 3 of you have long term status of success.
You are amazing!!
🌷💕🌷💕🌷💕🌷💕 -
Captainlynne – outstanding!
At the end of week 22 – down from 109kg to 88.5 kg – total loss 20.5kg (45 lb). Waist down from 122cm to 102cm. Weight loss is continuing at around .5 kg / week using LCHF. Keep up the great work people!
-
Fantastic weight loss results gang…congratulations to all!
-
Thanks everyone 😃
-
So end of week 5… I think!! It’s crazy, never thought I wouldn’t even notice what week I was on! This 8 weeks is flying and not sure I’ll stop when I get there if havent reached my goal.
Another 1.4kg lost this week – yahhhoooooo!!! And most of that was lost Monday – Thursday as a weekend of camping and did eat a bit too much dark chocolate one of the evenings (still addicted to it clearly!!)… in an attempt to avoid the fish and chips – which I did! 🙂 Also had a glass of wine one of the nights which wasn’t counted.
Nobody really notices the weight loss except me but it doesn’t matter as only for me really! I definitely notice it in my clothes and generally things just fitting better. Total in 5 weeks is over a stone lost and have just over another stone to go to be in the healthy weight for my height. Cant wait!! Would like up to 2 stone more to go, as then I would be back to what I was when v fit so probably a healthy weight for me.
Am going to try adding in some more exercise this week and hopefully some meditation though it’s a busy week ahead…
Congratulations everyone on their successes, battles and attempts – go team 🙂
