Hello All – good to see people getting to grips with the challenges again. Well done on resisting those happy hours Violinist and it sounds like you are feeling the benefits already.
I confess I haven’t started weighing, measuring and counting again, but can report that with avoiding the alcohol and making sure to keep the carbs low, the bloating seems to have righted itself. Only half pound down, but happy the reading on the scales is heading in the right direction.
Having some success in extending the overnight fasts – 18hrs yesterday and 19hrs today and keeping hydration up too. Generally content with how it’s going, even though I’ve not got organised on the cal and carb counting front yet.
    Keep going everyone.

Thank you for the welcome back. Have had 2 days of good focus on my food and, importantly, liquid intake. The latter has seen me wear a furrow to the bathroom from increased day & night need. Hopefully that will settle shortly. I have pleasant & encouraging results on the scale this morning but I’ll leave judgement until the end of the week as my usual pattern is down some/up some even with similar daily intake.
My challenge today is afternoon tea with D.I.L & niece. I’m taking a small cheese plate and I’ll do my best to avoid the scones+jam+cream without hurting feelings. Had a late breakfast and will miss lunch, so we’ll see.
I’m impressed with the way everyone is meeting the challenges of the New Year head on, so let’s KOKO xx

    Hi Verano and gang!
I’ve restarted too and am on day 3. I’m on Kazzees road trip and Jan’s weekly motivational thread but will join in here too if I may?
My challenge for this week is to only have a glass of wine on 1 or 2 days in the week, so 5 Alcohol Free days.
A tip with water – I’m loving the Fruit infusion bags at the moment. I pop one into a 1.25ml bottle of sparkling water and it tastes lovely (can have with still water too). I also made some berry ice cubes with left over blueberries and some chopped strawberries. The flavoured sparkling water and the colourful ice blocks make the drink look pretty & festive 🙂 We are having really hot weather (36-40 degree days), so it’s refreshing too, not to forget that sparkling water helps to keep me feeling full between meals 🙂 🍹 😃

Yesterday was a complete blow out. After 2 days of low carbs and calories, I was out of my mind with hunger and weak at happy hour so completely blew it. Back at it today, tho.
Weight dropped to 169.2 dressed this morning. Will take blood pressure to see if improvement. Also waited on breakfast trying to move it closer to lunch. Steps are over 6,000.

V., this is very unwelcome news! I’m so sorry to hear about your accident…Fear of falling is a more serious matter
when we are our age. Update on your thread when you are up to it, and insist that your medical team manage your
pain adequately so that restorative sleep is possible. It’s what we need in order to heal. My heart is with you, and
have no worries…Wendy and I will look after your thread. Take good care V., and check in when you can. Hugs,

Hello everyone. While catching up on the posts I saw some unsanitary names – welcome!
V, sorry for your accident. Please get better soon.
Eclectic, I know it’s difficult to deal with mental illness. My mother has severe hoarding tendencies so I grew up dealing with these issues. I hope the cleaning and organizing goes well and your father in law gets well soon.
Wendy, I love tea. Honestly, it’s one of my joys. I want to look up your top three and try them out myself.

So for my update – today I was 176.8. My face looks so swollen. I really hate the weight I put on over the past few weeks. Carbs are evil! Next time I fall sick, I’m definitely going to insist on an alternative to the typical chicken and rice soup. Today I’m starting an extended fast and then I’ll continue with 800 when I’m done. I had gotten a little sick again after posting the last time, but honestly, it was emotional stress keeping me away. I was feeling quite frustrated about some parts of my life, but I know I can’t keep that up or I’ll never move forward. My goal for January is to get back where I was before the flu – 163 or lower. Then I’d still like to be 150 by the end of February. I always so my ultimate goal is 125, but I’m not really sure. I can’t imagine weighing that low and it may be too little. That is just the midrange for someone my height. But I’d like to get back into my daily walks and occasional jogs (of course it is storming like crazy right now) as well as strength training. I really enjoy exercising so I’m confident that between healthy eating and becoming more active, I’ll find a satisfying weight. Size 6/8 would be nice…

Okay, sorry for the long post. I look forward to encouraging everyone and being encouraged too!

Verano will hopefully be back soon to run the thread for another week, meanwhile V, if you would like me to send you some Reiki, let me know and I’ll happily do that.

So far for me this week, a couple of good days but today has been a bit iffy and we are out to dine tonight. Although I’ll do my best to limit the carbs, i think it likely there will be some wine! Haven’t started counting cals/carbs yet, but am working towards it.

Amz, good to see you back with us ! Like Eclectic , it sounds like you have had a lot on your plate so go easy on yourselves . You know what to do so just put the last few weeks behind you and get your positive hat on.

Amz, stresses are not good for weight loss and I hope you can address the frustrations so you can feel more settled this year. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You have a life time to be healthy ..there’s plenty of time to reach your goal.

Glad you love your tea too ! Have a look at the mariage freres website
    https://www.mariagefreres.com/FR/accueil.html
There are hundreds of teas on there but I am not sure about US delivery. The prices on Amazon are shockingly prohibitive .

Violinist can you find some healthy snacks to keep that hunger monster at bay so you don’t have another blow out when happy hour beckons ? ? A few nuts, a hard boiled egg ?? You have done so well, one little slip won’t do too much damage. SueBlue has some good ideas to make sparkling water sexy !!! 😉

We all have different challenges .We can only do our best to stay on track and be as healthy as we possibly can.One Week at a time remember folks so it’s all manageable.

Wishing you a great weekend and we will be renewing the thread next Tuesday !

Wendy and Allie, I know we can depend on your support!

Violinist, awesome! You rock! Keep at it! I’m going to try to catch up soon.

Today’s weigh in was 173.8. I ended my fast around eight last night with just a quick chicken and broccoli soup. I had originally planned to fast for 24-48 hours but my hubby felt like it will make me weak so he insisted on my eating. I think it is just simpler to keep it to myself and plan on fasts around his schedule as I doubt he would notice me not eating on the days he works since our paths barely cross ( he’s a night worker so he sleeps during the day while I’m active ). Anyways, trying to spend the day not stressing but it is very difficult. I feel like the rock and hard place are getting closer, making it hard to move… But here I am, staying on plan today, drinking my cup of tea. I can’t control others, but I can control myself. I’m going keep marching forward. New headphones, floral dresses, and a boost in confidence await me.

Just saw this recipe for cloud bread on myfitnesspal… Supposed to be a substitute for bagels…. Seems interesting, had anyone made anything similar before?

    Directions

Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and reserve.
Separate the eggs and put the egg yolks in a medium bowl. Add 1 ounce (2 tablespoons/30g) of the Neufchatel cheese to the egg yolks and beat with a fork until smooth. Reserve.

In a stand mixer, using the whisk attachment, or in a bowl with an electric mixer, whisk the egg white and 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar on low speed to mix, then raise the speed to high and whip to achieve firm peaks.

Dollop about 1/4 of the beaten egg whites into the yolk mixture and fold in roughly, to lighten the mixture. Add the rest and fold in gently to keep the whites lofty.

Scoop 1/2-cup portions of the batter and drop on the prepared pan, leaving a couple of inches in between. Spread to an even 1-inch thickness, making them as round as possible.
Bake for 30 minutes, until golden on top and firm to the touch. Cool to room temperature before peeling off the paper.

    Hello V, thinking of you☀🌻Marilyn

Hello to all on this thread. A small blip upwards this morning, can account for it, so am calm about it. Went to cricket yesterday evening, took a donut peach and small apricot each plus some grapes and raw nuts. Also had a bite of OH’s GF Muslim bar. This has been sufficient previously but by the time we arrived home, just after 11pm, I was hungry and thoughtlessly ate “stuff” I didn’t really need. Keeping a firm focus today, am about to have a salad lunch, after 3 herbal teas and extra water across the morning.
Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday xx

    1/2 cup egg whites
    1 cup mushrooms
    1 cup steam spinach
    1 slice of swiss cheese

    raw spinach 1 cup
    oil and vinegar 1 tbspoon
    avocado 1/2
    albacore 2 oz

    stuffed peppers or
    salmon 4 ounces
    chicken thighs and broccoli or

    turkey burger and asparagus

Most of these days are under 800 calories with a net carb under 20. I try to eat breakfast as late in the morning as possible, which is hard when I get up so early naturally. I also may switch when I have these between the meals like steamed spinach may be eaten with my salad.

I am gluten, dairy and grain sensitive so although I can have these items maybe once, my digestive system lets me know if I try twice. So things like heavy cream, egg yolks, anything wheat, white flour etc. can cause me much pain over several days.m

    FOR VERANO:
Thinking of you this morning Verano, and hoping you are already on the road to recovery.
It’s exhausting being in the hospital, very hard to get any rest with all the noise and activity — I hope you can find calm and space to heal there.
If the food is awful, get someone to bring in better food!
Sending you virtual “healing vibes” and including you in my prayers. Do I know your true name? I cannot remember if you have shared that with us — well no matter — I will use Verano!

I would like to think that Verano is back in the comfort of her own home and away from the awful routine of hospitals but that may be too soon. I hope you are getting quality medical care, V.
So much wonderful support coming your way from the forum. If that was all it took to get you up on your feet again you would be home in no time. Take good care and I hope you are being well looked after and nurtured to restore your health.

The same goes for all the lovely people on V’s thread. Nourish yourselves with kindness.
I will be looking out for you from my work computer tomorrow. I hope you have had a good weekend. If there have been any blips remember to keep going.

Good morning. Thank you so much for all your good wishes and thoughts. Yes
you are right s-g I was trying to push myself too hard, …. one activity at a time may have been a better plan!!!
Thank you for your prayers Julia and I really would appreciate some Reiki healing, thank you SunnyB. All healing help from any denomination gratefully accepted!
So my demise. I’m waiting to be transferred to a specialist orthopaedic hospital so I can have the surgeon who knows my hips perform the surgery. Should be operated on by the end of this week. Pain is in and out but bearable …. but looks like I will be only patially weight bearing for 3-6 months.
This has also forced us to alter our plans. We had a trip to Asia planned for mid February but of course that has been cancelled. In the fullness of time we will find out the reason why we were not destined to take the trip….. I think.
But …. every cloud has a silver lining…. can’t snack because I don’t have any! Food not BSD friendly but they have salads and omelets. I’ll be ‘clucking’ soon! Am getting my yogurt berry breakfast from home. Definitely no ‘happy hour’ here, so don’t need to worry about ‘wine creep’! Also doubt if I’ll be able to stand on scales for a long time to come so it will be back to the trusty tape measure. Think my life will be far less pressured without weighing …. both me and food!
Love the new name for next week’s thread. So pleased the weekly thread isn’t just going to disappear into the ether. Will do my best to keep in touch with updates and in the meantime just keep walking forwards…..
Thank you all again for your good wishes

Im trying to catch up almost a week here and have not read posts in order. So glad you have access to someone who knows you and your body . . . that fact must offer some solace at what must be a very stressful time. Plusses and minuses on the food front . . . and I can imagine there will be moments needing MANY pastimes and diversions to put the cravings/snacking naggings at bay 🙂 Ive just been away with son and two grandsons, friend of son’s and their two sons. 2 x 12 a 1 x 10 and a 1 x 9. What an eye-opener. What a stressful four days . . . . as a no-nonsense nanna who raised two sons (almost) alone . . . I had no patience of the lack of attention to directions, the constant challenging – “Ill do it in my time” attitudes, no concern for electronic belongings left lying around to be trodden on . . . disobedience to the simplest of things . . . things to be done and MANNERS!!!!! The friends dad . . . well . . . quite obvious why the two lads are the way they are . . . but my grandsons . . .? Sad to say . . . their mum has the greatest say in their upbringing . . . and dad is considered just he who brings home the bacon . . . and knows nothing more. His frustration at their lack of respect has caused me great sadness . . . and their rudeness and lack of respect for me disheartening to say the least. HOWEVER!!! Positive side is . . . some 2-3 weeks ago, away from home – alone – and with high summer temps., I was suffering dizziness and light-headedness. Similar to many years ago with low blood pressure, I decided to omit my low dosage pills and maybe avert some problems. A week later . . . checking with my cousins monitor, a couple of readings some hours apart revealed 120/70 and the next 119/69. Now two weeks kater after the four days of EXTREME temps and little sleep, the joys of having time away with the above group 🙂 – a 3.5 hour trip home . . . repacking and heading out for my next assignment . . . a trip to the pharmacy revealed 141/70 and some 15 minutes later 134/70. While I have a visit to the GP coming up . . . and Im aware one shouldnt just “STOP” medications . . . it looks like my new WOE and accompanying weight discard could well have seen the end of the need for BP meds ::) IM DELIGHTED to be just having some vitamins, magnesium and evening primrose!!! Yeah and roll on 2019. Happy New Year all 🙂

Violinist – that’s what I like to see, a good fairly simple weekly menu! Well done on happy hour avoidance! I’m avoiding alcohol right now, “dry” January as I know it’s the key, but it’s a bit boring I have to say! 🙂 Still, it’s good for me in every way!

V., I’m so sorry that you have to go through another surgical procedure and your trip will have to be postponed. I’m

I’m relieved to read your post, and admire your strength and accepting attitude. I’m sure it will carry you through
    the days ahead…
Catherine, your menus sound very much like mine, and you’re doing great. I kept mine simple too, and was rewarded
for the effort. I always forget about turkey! I may seek out a turkey tenderloin this week. Best wishes in joining
Kazz for a dry January 🙂
Home at last, WoodDuckie! I don’t think that I would much enjoy a week with today’s youth…One of my 4 nephews has
been raised the same way, and he is also thoughtless, inconsiderate and self absorbed. Thankfully, the other 3 are

Oh Verano, how disappointing that your trip has to be postponed. As you say though, there might well be a reason it shouldn’t happen at the moment, which will only become apparent later on. Do hope your surgery goes well and you will make good progress afterwards. I will of course send you some Reiki. It sounds like you are coping BSD wise for now, although I’m thinking salad and omelettes will quickly get pretty boring, so hope you’ll soon be home.
Woodduckie – what a shame you have had a disappointing week with your grandsons. It’s a very sad situation for you and must have been very uncomfortable for your son too. Good news on the BP levels though, something positive to hang on to.
Allie – thanks for setting up the new thread. I’ve joined, although I won’t be around for the bulk of the week, due to the Marrakesh trip. I’ll post end of week results tomorrow, but I’m not hopeful they will be good, as it seems to have been a very up and down week on the scales so far.
Hope others will be posting good week end results tomorrow – best of luck everyone.

I’m checking in on this thread too to report a 1.2kg loss. It was going to be 2kg, but last night I celebrated the end of months of worry, when the Dutch government announced that Brits would be able to stay here with existing rights even if there is no deal. Huge well done to all those reporting losses today. I’m owning up to a gain of half a pound this week, but what is scariest, is I have no idea how that happened! Admittedly, I haven’t managed to marshal myself into weighing, measuring and counting all cals and carbs, but I had thought I was working quite within the BSD principles – seems not.

So, I am aiming at a 24hr fast tomorrow to try to mitigate the damage of the last week. However, I then only have Thursday at home, before our trip away over the w/e. I will do my best over the next couple of days and then stick as closely to the BSD principles whilst away. I am going to commit here and now, that once we are back next week, I WILL DEFINITELY be back to the 800/20 regime, as I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO get myself back UNDER target weight before the we go to Turkey in April.

Sunshine-girl – congrats on the ID cards and well done on deferring your celebrates, I’m sure it was very tempting to break out the champagne!

Just a quick update … I thought I would use this thread rather than ‘sully’ another thread with my issues. Anyway have had a quick look through some posts and delighted to see the enthusiasm is still bubbling away.
So surgery over, surgeon pleased with his work , which is great because my femur and prosthetic were in a real mess. Starting to feel a little better just can’t wait to get back on my feet again. Bizarrely it’s possible, even after 6 surgeries on the same leg, that my overall outcome will leave me in a better position than before this last mishap …..Not that I recommend this course of action to anybody!
Hope everyone is still walking forward one step at a time …….

When can you leave hospital ? You will no doubt be looking at lots of physio ? I am sure you will be trying out those new spare parts very soon and I understand your impatience.
