    Good morning/evening!

Violinist wrote on this on the forum a few weeks ago ……
“ You can’t go back and change the beginning…. but ….
You can start now and change the ending”

This really resonated with me, so, as we start a new week, a new month and most importantly a new year let’s all start now to change the ending.
Kazzee has started a long road trip to Easter but I also like to break the journey down into ‘small bites’ to make it more manageable for me.

So for just seven days, just one week, I’m going to take a really good look at the amount of water I’m drinking. I have noticed lately that some days I’m only having 50Oml! Ok I do have other liquids but for just seven days from January 1st I will drink at least 1500ml of water, plus green jasmine tea with maybe just one cup of coffee a day.

I know how important being well hydrated is but I need to get back into the habit. Any habits you need to break or make ….. just seven days!

Morning Verano, I am here to change the ending too. This week I am working on happy hour snacks and drinks at my house. My digestive system just can’t take junk food and wine very well. So, although I have many goals, the one I need to conquer and focus on is the 4:30 pm – 6 pm social hour at my house. Conquering this will change the ending on so many things..

My stats today, Dec 28, 2018, 6 am
    Female age 62
    5’4”
    171 pounds fully dressed
Last time partaking in happy hour – 12/26/2018

Good morning, V. and Catherine! I’ve missed this weekly thread, so thank you V. for getting us organized 🙂 I hope
you both had a wonderful holiday. I wasn’t successful getting my wriggle room back in the month of Dec., so I
need to commit to a strict month of 800/20, complete with 2-3 liters of water and bi-weekly weigh ins. Talking
about it and thinking about it each day, being accountable, and most importantly, charting my progress is what is
required, so I’ll be traveling along with you. No real damage over the holiday, but too much champagne and not
enough walking… I’m sure we will have lots of company! Cheers to much success to all in 2019. 🙂 (with water,
    of course!)

Catherine, the 20 is the carb count 🙂 That’s why the wine has to go….At 3.8 to 4g per glass, staying under 20g of
carbs a day isn’t doable when wine creep is part of the picture. Not everyone is as insulin resistant as I am, but
it seems to be what my body insists upon if I am to be successful. The Spring teaching semester is just about to
begin, so our relaxed schedule will be undergoing some rapid changes, and leisurely dinners will soon be replaced
with order and discipline. It should help a lot! See you soon 🙂

800 cals and 20 g of carbs maybe Catherine ? Allie will surely enlighten us

I have an 8 Week stretch before the school holidays at the end of February so I will be joining Kazzee’s thread and also this weekly one. I have noticed weight loss is slower after the initial 8 Week programme but I will have a re start and continue logging and tracking as that keeps me focused.

Lots of good intentions re drinking water and managing happy hour. I need to get back into good habits too V . It’s so much easier when I am at school and away from the almonds and dark choc that lurk in my kitchen !!

It’s great to see everyone coming back gradually !
2019 will soon be upon us but I sense this is a fuzzy interim stage right now ?

    Ah yes, Wendleg, 20 carbs.

This is called the “lame duck” time period between political years when a new president or democrats or republicans have been voted out/in in November, but don’t take over until January. The ones’ taking over don’t want any decisions made until they get in congress in January and the people still in power want to quickly get laws passed.

Hello. I’ll join in here too.
The flu kicked my butt in more ways then one. Down for over a week, barely eating about half, but the real issue was my carb intake. Could barely stand, much less cook, so I was taking in canned chicken soup, rice, oatmeal, quick and easy things. Today’s weigh in was a shocker – 179.6, 13 lbs increase since last Tuesday. But I’m going back to my bsd life today and I’m going to watch it go back down just like before.

Also, congrats Wendy, on the great new clothes!

Hi everyone! This time of the year certainly throws everyone for routine, emotional adventures, temptations and decisions are so many and varied from our norm everyday 🙂 Im finding I really dont want to eat . . . the oppressive heat at this end of the world right now is debilitating . . . food seems “heavy” . . . salads just wet and bland . . . and while a brunch has become the way of my world this past few days . . . Im finding I want/need/prefer just small snacky things here and there along the day. SO . . . today Ive ingested a poached egg, three TINY two-mouthful lambchops . . . slice of cold pork and some pork krackles (chips?) – like maybe 5 pieces . . .? two coffees . . .a spoonful of pure peanut butter, and a few nuts . . . all over 8 hours since rising. Im thinking while Ive been busy doing emails, hand watering plants to stave off heatstress, sewing, hair treatment etc etc etc., maybe boredom and/or the lack of company which I have become used to over the past 10-14 days with travelling and visiting could be the cause. I KNOW the carbs and cals arent over the top . . . and guess it really doesnt matter if I under eat . . .? But any suggestions or reassurances please . . .? Also can anyone answer this for me please . . . Christmas Day my hostess cooked a beautiful English-style roast dinner . . . the turkey and chicken meat was cooked/oven roasted in the same pan as the potatoes, pumpkin etc.. I felt edgy and unsettled after the meal . . . having had a delicious salad rather than the veges but did have the hot roasted meats. Could the carbs from the veges infiltrated the meats during cooking please?

Hi WiodDuckie. I can’t really answer your question but I eat a lot of fish and when I have red meat occasionally I find it sits ‘heavy’ on my stomach and I usually have a restless night. It may just be the roast and nothing to do with the carbs. Also it’s possible you ate more than usual and that might also have had an effect especially if you are in the habit of eating snacks rather than one or two meals a day.
I find I ‘boredom’ snack too so I try to just eat brunch and dinner, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t! Maybe you just need to get back into a routine after your trip away.

Thank you for your thoughts, viewpoints and input Verano . . . they are very much appreciated. Maybe I have been in a routine and didnt totally recognise it . . . and the trip away and visits since have all been out of sequence and with necessary food variations, and timing, things havent been “on track”. Maybe Im just being too hard on myself – AGAIN!!!

Hi everybody, merry Christmas and happy festive season to all.
Well you folks said I could share so here I go Sadly, my father in law was taken into hospital before Christmas he is making a slow recovery. Unfortunately, my in-laws flat is one from hoarders hell programme. We already helped them out from the big house to a lovely flat but here we are again three years later. But change is the theme right so it’s been operation clear out, deep clean up, IKEA and mobility shopping 😅🙈🤦with my hubby but 2019 carers and regular cleaning coming on board. So rather grateful and privileged lot so can’t grumble too much. We have a young family and I’m trying to write and teach. I one of those women who really wants it all that’s available! I know I’m in good company. Anyway I love my in laws they are good folks but mental health probs make it a challenge. Here’s to good health for my father in law and good health for all.

But focusing moving on to BSD I have lost a pound or two, lost quite a few inches. So charity shop for some smaller top, to be honest I’m so busy that eating is quick and I’m only averaging OMAD and some fasts which has countered out the prosecco and g&t Allie so I’m looking to be dry till my trip to France. Wendy going to be in Paris for 18th for what now is going to be a welcome and much needed rest. I’ve done the tourist thing in past trips. Just a good girls weekend with my best friend of 30years we have been friends since we were 11! Talking of friends you are all mine in this BSD journey. I’m on board now I hope as come up to 2019. Congrats on all your losses and words as always. Verano thanks for starting this thread and violinist fine words change indeed! Woodduckie sounds like you are doing well and agreed be kind to yourself. Here we go again cannae wait 😘😘😘😘

Yes Violinist that is so true you really do just have to take that first step towards a better life.

I am a green tea freak Verano !! I love the stuff. I have many types ….all loose leaf. Here are a few of my favourites
Fuji Yama and Kukicha ( Japanese)
Montagne Jiang Xi and Lung Ching (Chinese)
    Jeoncha Celeste( Korean)

I like my green tea natural with no added aromas. I order it online ( Mariage Frères) or Damman) I cannot persuade my family to try it.They favour ‘builders tea’ : strong black tea with milk but I would not be without my green teas now. They travel with me wherever I go and I have little filter baskets I use in a glass mug. The key is not to make it too strong when first trying it.

You probably know I cannot handle alcohol so it’s like having a fine wine for me !

Lovely to have you aboard Kazz. I think this thread runs really well in tandem with the 16 week challenge. If people hit a rough spell, because a new week starts every Tuesday, at worst , it’s just one poor week and then a whole new start again and back on track with the longer term goals. Thanks for kicking off a weekly challenge thread V, I always find them useful and it’s great to see so many folks getting on board with it too.

It has been a very hectic Christmas period in our house and right now, I feel like I’m just coming out of some sort of trance or whirlwind – comprised of people, meals and housekeeping! Normality seems like an oasis of calm in comparison. I’m tired both mentally and physically and am looking forward to being able to return to normal BSD eating, extend overnight fasts, bump up the hydration and gaining some wriggle room.

Allie, not sure if I will be doing the full on 800/20, but I’ll certainly be throwing in some 22-23hr fasts and avoiding the alcohol again – well, after the champagne to see in the new year that is! We have a couple of weeks before our mini-break in Marrakesh, so I’d like to get at least a couple of pounds of wriggle room by then. Have continued to weigh myself daily throughout the Christmas period and am content with the results, but I’ll be here to post a starting point on the 1st Jan.

Best wishes to everyone for a great 2019.

Good morning/evening. Hi SunnyB good to see you. I know exactly how you must be feeling. I had just about used up all my stores of energy when we were asked out. Fine no cooking etc but even just socialising was an effort so I’m delighted to have a few ‘quiet’ days!
Well I have weighed for the last time in 2018 and am about to draw a line under the year in my journal. This has not been my finest hour with a gain for the year and quite a significant one too. No throwing in of towels here just a long hard look at how I’ve gone wrong ….. simple….. complacency! So easy to do but because I have the tools, I also have the remedy for 2019.
So time to make a plan and that is my plan for today.
The end of a year is always a time for reflection, so reflect, learn, plan and move on to a new Tuesday, a new week and a new year ….. may 2019 bring you all you wish for yourself , happiness and above all health. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Am also joining this challenge. For the first time ever we stayed in a hotel over Christmas – it was lovely as I was working crazy hours before Christmas and was exhausted.

I kept to 20g carbs on each of the 3 days. Christmas day we had a 6 course dinner and buffet in the evening!! It sounds as though I was positively saintly – but as there was so much BSD friendly food there was no way I could have coped with eating carbs. Instead of a dessert I had some of their lovely cheeses. But I did over-indulge in BSD friendly food and put on 2lb which I want to lose.

Happy New Year to all our dear friends Down Under ! May 2019 be the year you find peace and serenity with weight and other issues. It’s all about good health . I sincerely hope those wonderful women are well and recovering. Would love to hear from you.

I don’t want to put a downer on anything but I do believe we owe it to ourselves to be as healthy as we possibly can. Life is pretty fragile folks and can throw up some harsh challenges noone deserves.

Let’s make this New Year the year we get healthy !! That’s more important than scoffing carbage and other poisons surely ?

I’m in agreement Squidge – I’ll be partaking of a glass or two of champagne and indulging a little this evening, but like you, this will be an exception and I’ll be right back to BSD tomorrow.
Verano, wherever you have ended up at year’s end, I know you will be making a strong start for the new year. As you say, we have the tools now, we just need to employ them properly and not fall into the ‘a little won’t matter’ trap!
Sounds like you did excellently Krysia. I too have had a little too much cheese, but we’ll soon have any gain knocked into shape.
Wendleg, you’re right, our health is something we should all guard and I’m sure everyone on BSD is determined to do their best to achieve good health, by following this wonderful way of life.
I’ll check in tomorrow with a start weight for this challenge and a definite plan of action. Meanwhile, I wish you all a peaceful and contented New Year and Health, Wealth and Happiness throughout 2019 …. very best wishes to you all.

    Well here we are ….
a new Tuesday, a new week, new month and new year so let’s make it the start of a ‘new body’ As Wendy says we owe it to ourselves to be as healthy as we can possibly be.
We have the knowledge and we have the tools so we just have put them into practice.
So for the next seven days, yes just seven days, let’s change just one habit.
This week I will drink 1500ml of water each day. Not difficult but why do I keep forgetting!
Lovely to see you back Krysia and keeping your 2018 triumph in mind I’m sure we can all make 2019 the year we conquer our ‘demons’ for once and for all.
SunnyB thanks for your vote of confidence and I’m sure we can all make this year a positive one especially if we focus on what we CAN have, and not what we think we might miss by following this way of life.

Welcome to 2019 everyone! So, this is our new start and a big thank you to Verano for the inspirational post this morning. It’s so good to see everyone is fired up and ready to take control as we step into the new year.
I weighed in this morning at 1lb over target weight, which means that overall I gained 2lb during the festive season. Although it’s a gain, I’m content with this result, as I have indulged in small quantities of non-BSD food and have been partaking of alcohol too, so I think this result is more than fair. Strangely, although the gain is small, my body is definitely bloated as a couple of pairs of my jeans feel unusually tight and none too comfortable.
So, my aim for this week is to get to grips with the carbs and increase the duration of overnight fasts again. I’m hopeful of seeing the 2lb disappear quickly, so I can make a start on clawing back wriggle room again.

Just checked back on my profile and found out this time last year, I was 1.5lb under target weight, which makes my being a pound over this time, feel a bit more shameful. However, reading back over my progress has inspired me to recommit to a period of full-on 800/20, but I plan to ease into that by the end of the week, rather than jumping in straight off.
So, I commit to getting my feet facing in the right direction over the next few days and then just keep walking!

Wendy some people measure out nuts into a small dish each day to stop ‘nut dip’. It’s so easy to eat them mindlessly especially Brazil’s for me.
Caron I struggled yesterday to just have 1500ml of water. I have no idea why it’s become such a struggle for me but it has. I hope you managed to meet your goal yesterday.
Catherine how was wine-o’clock? Breaking habits is just as difficult as making them I think. Who’d have thought 1500mls of water would be a struggle but there you go.
SunnyB are you being hard on yourself or what?????? You have maintained for a whole year! That’s marvellous. I admire your determination over the past year not to let any weight-creep back into your life.

Good evening (in Perth, Aust) and Happy New Year. I hope some people will remember me as I’m a returner to the forums. I also hope you don’t mind me starting on your 2nd day. In my mind yesterday was day 1 when the scales showed 64kg. This morning showed 62.9kg. Both yesterday and today were days of discipline re snacks, definitely my dodgy area. Currently I’m feeling a bit “carb-flueish” which hopefully won’t last long.
Checking back, it seems the last time I contributed to the forum was mid-May, 2018, just one month before my 2nd anniversary on BSD. At the time I’d logged in at 59.7kg – low for me but still not within my healthy BMI. Why did I stop? I had a feeling that, despite feeling deeply connected to many of the wonderful long-time members, I was too dependent on the forum, was spending entirely too much time here and that I would take a step away. For the first couple of months I held the line really well but gradually little slipbacks crept in, built up over time and I’ve yo-yoed up and down between 62 and 65kg. Very disappointed with my lack of consistency but grateful to limit the damage to those few kgs. So, New Year, new beginnings. I heard someone on the radio the other day say “really, to progress you need to show up… just show up! ” so here I am again, just showing up.
BTW, so lovely, comforting, to see the familiar names.

Hi Maisie! I understand exactly what you mean about needing to take a step away from the forums I felt quite similar after my second anniversary and didn’t really contribute much in the second half of 2018. I really don’t think you should beat yourself up over a few kilos. The most important thing is that you have returned. I remember Captain Lynne came back after a few months away with a smallish gain but she didn’t stay long. I hope she maintained her amazing loss.
Anyway glad you decided to ‘show up’ ….. just one week at a time and we’ll all get there in the end.
Butterlover good to see you back too. Self sabotage…. we have all been there so draw a line under the bread roll and try and make lunch with your friends as BSD friendly as possible. One day at a time, just one day at a time for just one week, only seven days but maybe only five by the time you read this. Only 5 days, one at a time and you will get there if you really want to.
Hi Kazz I’ll pop over to the other thread a few times a week to say hello but looks like lots of positivity going on at the moment. Chocolate and wine what can you say but looks like you may have found the answer!
Catherine one down 6 to go! Well done.

Hey Marsie, good to have you with us again. I understand wanting to take a bit of a break from the forum occasionally, but personally keep these brief – a few weeks at most – as I find being here makes me more accountable and helps me stay focused and less likely to wander off and consume lots of stuff I shouldn’t. It doesn’t sound like you have too much to do to get back to where you were and you are already making excellent progress. It’s a positive that you have identified your danger area – snacking – and that you are already tackling the problem. These weekly challenges are a great way to keep motivated, in the company of like-minded travelers, so hope you’ll stick with us.
V, yes you’re probably right, but I do need to focus so that things don’t slide.
Butterlover, tech malfunctions are so frustrating! One bread roll is not really an issue, especially as you recognised the potential for it to take you off track – that’s half the battle. Like you, I’m easing back into BSD proper over this week. I’m confident you’ll be fully back on track soon and reporting good results.
Keep facing in the right direction and keep walking!
