SG ..amid discussions of nuisance phone calls I omitted to say sorry to hear of your hypo. You are indeed tuned into your body to recognise when they are about to happen, but all the same it’s a scary thing for you and for your hubby.Take care .

I was thinking ..we are on Orange here. Who is your phone provider ? I think I would be having a serious conversation with them ! That number of unsollicited calls is just unacceptable . Some strong venting required.

    Keep going chunkyd !

Well done Cat !! Resisting the vino is getting the results you want !!! Well done !!!!

Strongcurves, emotional eating is certainly a challenge but choosing junk over a heathy snack ( nuts ?) will just lead to self recrimination and not make you feel better at all. I know it’s easy to say and much harder to carry out but you honestly can be stronger than the urge to eat what you think might be ‘ comforting food’ That’ s great that you have distractions, weightlifting, wow ! And wearing nice clothes is a real morale booster ! Could you make this BSD experience the subject of your creative writing ? You could include all our foibles and challenges 😉

Madmare, Don’t be annoyed, just keep going with the same determination.Good luck with the fasting.

Good evening all. Those calls sound very irritating. Someone must answer and buy or they’d quit but who?🙄 All your holidays (vacations here) sound lovely. I was not totally judicious today. Hubby couldn’t sleep and his thrashing about woke me up at 4am. By the time I got through my daughter’s swim team practice I was starved and needed to be at work so I had a piece of toast with lots of peanut butter. Lots. It was probably healthier than a pastry or fast food but just as caloric. I had a headache by dinner and ate a small handful of chips with my bean soup. I came in at 1100 calories for the day. At least I know that being tired works against me and tomorrow is another day

I am a newbie. Can I join too? Today is Day 1 for me. I have no problems when it comes to fasting. My biggest enemy is the sugar – desserts, chocolates….. I am feeling weak today because I have had zero sweets. I am tempted to go out an get something sweet but…. I do not want to fail just on my first day. I just can’t. How do you guys do this??

    Hi Gaga, and welcome!

It gets easier, trust me. It’s hardest for the first few days because you’re coming off all the high carb things and your body really doesn’t want to let them go. And sugar is the worst offender, please don’t go and get something sweet because then you’ll have to start weaning yourself off it all over again tomorrow. It’ll just make this hard part last for longer, so please don’t give in. If you can, it might be helpful to think of high carb things and especially sugar as if they were drugs – you’re withdrawing from them and it’s hard and you feel bad to start with, but it really does get better quickly. I promise!

And if you stick it out for a couple of days you will see the benefits.

There’s loads of helpful ideas here, and lots of people will provide support and advice, it’s a great place to get suggestions.

To help just now, could you distract yourself with some nuts? Or a cup of coffee with cream in it? (And try to drink lots and lots of water – everyone will tell you that and it really does help.)

Welcome again, you’ll find lots of support here 🙂

Thanks Elky. NO, I didn’t go out to get sweets. All the hard work I did with the cooking today would have gone down the drain. But I am dreaming of those sweet goodies. No problem with wine, no problem with bread…just that chocolate cake and eclairs and macarons is driving me nuts. I don’t know if I am going crazy as I am only looking at pictures of cakes etc at the moment to satisfy my needs.

    Hi Gaga
Welcome! Yes – it will get easier. Tell us a bit about yourself and your journey to Fast800 😊 I see you say that you are not overweight but trying to control perhaps pre diabetes? Have you read the Fast800 book? It has lots of helpful advice on getting through the early days, as does the website (articles) https://thefast800.com/articles-and-recipes/ There are also some helpful links on the Take a Look at This thread on this site https://thebloodsugardiet.com/forums/topic/take-a-look-at-this/
The low-carb healthy fast (LCHF) way of eating (WOE) will give you more energy and really reduce your cravings for sweet things.

There are lots of people here to encourage you – and ask as many questions as you like! Someone will jump in to help.
This is a journey, rather than a fast fix “diet”, and our bodies take time to adjust. Trust yourself that you can do this! 🌺

Welcome StrongCurves and Gaga4shoes. A really good website for visuals is the dietdoctor website. There are some great graphics of low to high carb foods and also some excellent videos and articles.
Violinist well done on your 3lb loss but did I read that you are trying for 25g of protein a day? That seems very low. The average for a sedentary woman is 46g and you are anything but sedentary! Maybe it was a typo?
    Chunkyd great loss!
Sunshine-girl sorry to hear about your hypo but glad all is well now. Great loss this week but you need to take care not too overdo it.
Madmare 3.5lb gain on a holiday is not the end of the world. It’s probably mainly water anyway and should disappear quite quickly.
7babies as long as you can recognise the trigger for eating you can deal with it. As you say tomorrow is another day and it will be better!
Well yesterday I started to re-read Jason Fung’s ‘Obesity Code’. I have to admit I’m not a great fan of his probably from watching one of his videos way back. Anyway, I am now reading with a more open mind and he does make a lot of sense! I think I’m just more receptive to his ideas now. Anyway, I’ll let you know how I get on. I must admit I still can’t get to grips with Gary Taubes ….. sorry all Taube devotees!

Do you want to eat for yourself or for the sake of bacteria that cause inflammation in your body?
Give it a couple of weeks and the cravings will start to ease.

Hi everyone, I am taking it a bit easier and didn’t have a swim yesterday. I was going to in the evening but dark clouds came over and it was the perfect excuse not to. I feel so guilty when I dont do at least 30 mins a day.

7babies about the calls. Dont want to bore people but just a little explanation. The French government have a project where every household can apply to have their houses fully insulated for just €1. In order to qualify you go onto a gov.fr web site and answer some questions re: quoting your tax ID so they can check income, size of house, number of people living there etc etc. This is all above board and genuine so there is no need to have phone calls. Then you find out if you qualify or just how much you have to pay (still very much at a discount). Out come the scammers. Every phone call is just a recorded message asking you to press 1 if you are a house owner, press 2 and so on. Some of there are just dead line calls (no-one there) but it is automated to check if you are home so they can call again with a person on the line. 99% of these calls are scams, you press 1 and are connected to a high charge phone line – you know the ones. They allow the phone to ring 4 times as they dont want to be paying for the call and have an answer machine click in. I have tried ignoring, picking up the phone and letting the message play so they are paying but might not bother to ring back. Mostly I let it ring 4 times and know it is not a genuine call but it is so bloody annoying. Ring, ring, ring, ring all day, and in our case twice as once they have called our house phone they ring my husbands phone (he volunteers for a charity and has a dedicated phone). So as you can see, it is not a case of people buying so they keep ringing. It is a scam and we cannot stop it, just ignore it.

Wendy, I checked out Bloctel and it is so complicated. You register and when you receive a call you note the number, time, day, type of company etc and register it with them so they can intercept. How can I list and log 36 telephone numbers, especially as they ring off after 4 rings and you dont have time to note the number. Are you not experiencing the same problems or is it a regional thing??

Anyway, as I said above, I am taking things a bit easy and not letting myself get too hungry and keeping a careful eye on my blood glucose numbers but it really is a bummer. Try to lose weight to lower BG, BG goes too low and you have to eat!!!!! Hey ho. I will keep on keeping on…

I am not overweight but I carry my weight around my belly and people don’t notice it. My dad had a stroke, my mom had a stroke and my two younger brothers had a stroke. My dad was also diabetic. I have been active and working out regularly but this recent event with my youngest brother had me thinking about how I need to look after myself. Be more proactive. Like I said earlier I do exercise regularly and I don’t drink. My weakness is definitely sweets. I can pound back 2 slices of cakes, a whole bar of chocolate etc very easily. Then of course I start feeling guilty about it but can’t do anything about what’s done. And I do put on weight around my belly. My dad was not overweight and neither is my youngest brother.
I am looking at having a healthy lifestyle and work towards being healthy. The looks is secondary. I just don’t want to be in bed or in a wheelchair and if I know I have done things to protect myself then its ok. My younger brother had a stroke at age 38, that was 10 years ago and he is bedridden. My youngest brother at 48. He is in a wheelchair. It is a scary thought. I do have a gluten intolerance and so I don’t take much bread as the gluten free bread tastes like cardboard. So that’s fine. But I think life is short and I need to enjoy it some – so I eat mainly gluten free desserts – when I bake it or when I go out. I am on vacation now (international school teacher) so I entertain a lot when I am back home now in Canada. I don’t tell people I am on any kind of diet because they would say “but you don’t need it”. I can feel it in my clothes. I wear loose clothes now and people don’t see it. I think what’s important is that I need to take a look at my whole diet and try to change it. Not being overweight does not mean I am healthy. I carry a predisposition to all these nasty diseases and I ought to look after myself better. I am now 55 years old. My dad had his stroke at age 56.
So yes… I need to find a solution to eat better and not get into what the rest of my family has. I have read the book and I enjoy cooking. So I think this is the way to do it. And do it right.

Hi Gaga – that sounds like a very sensible plan, especially since certain things seem to run in your family. I’m so sorry to hear about your two brothers and I imagine it must be scary, wondering if it will happen to you. Getting ahead of any potential issues is smart and we are all happy to help in any way we can.
I understand about the sweets, I’m like that and also gluten intolerant but I’ll even push through the discomfort for a piece of cake! I’m still waiting, not for the cravings to lessen but the desire to not be interested in sweets and that hasn’t happened yet so I’m using willpower but for many it had so we will get there eventually!

Thank you all for your support. I needed to keep busy today to stop thinking about sweets. I biked to a local gym and spend my time in there – worked out a little but chatted more. I am on school break so I do have time. Empty nest is the other thing. I needed to keep busy. I survived day 2. Sweet cravings I still have that… I just want it to go away. I do hope you are right Kafin about the desire for sweets to go away. I know I am on day 2 only. Another day tomorrow.

    Good morning everyone.
Gaga it seems that sugar and dairy aren’t recommended in a food plan to avoid strokes but dark chocolate is encouraged. I know that dark chocolate just isn’t the same as the milky stuff but your taste buds can change over time. I now find even 70% too sweet and really enjoy 90%. It might just be mind over matter! Other than that this WOE would seem to be a good way to go. Best of luck.
July 10th, an auspicious day for me as it’s the six month anniversary of my surgery, so it’s about time I stopped using my ‘condition’ as an excuse not to exercise. I don’t know why I find it so hard to get back into any sort of routine. Any suggestions welcome!
So we still have three full weeks ahead to make a mark this month. I love Cat’s idea of making mid year resolutions and saying where we want to be in six months time. I think I will spend today working out exactly where I want to be next January and how I plan on getting there.
Sometimes it’s really useful to work out what we ‘really’ want rather than what we think we should ‘want’ because of convention.
    Have a thoughtful day!

Hi everyone, still not really taking it easy. I had one day off swimming – to give my body a rest. Then did 30 mins last night and another 30 this morning. Sometimes the glinting blue pool is too hard to resist. However, I feel like I am back on track and hope to lose a kg by Monday. Now it is time to get the house clean and ready for our house sitters who arrive on Sunday evening. As they are non meat eaters I am preparing a tray bake cod on a bed on leeks and peas. Dont know what carb I am doing for them but will maybe put in some white beans for me. Sounds pretty healthy to me. No more lows and keeping BG steady at around 5.0 – 5.5. Better get on with the housework. Just a word about chocolate – I think I saw in this thread (or maybe another) about keeping chocolate in the fridge. My daughter is a food scientist who specialises in the manufacture of chocolate and she does her nut with me for keeping mine in the fridge. She says it changes the molecules. What she forgets is, like today, it is 36 degrees and mine would be running out of the cupboard. I like to have just one 10g square of over 75% dark each evening after dinner. I love the snap when I bite into it and, to keep it cold, I have a glass of iced water with it. How’s that for a ritual.

SG – I keep my chocolate in the fridge too, but mostly so I don’t eat it all at once. I break off a square or two and let it warm up before eating. I find dark chocolate ok to keep in the fridge, but milk chocolate does change quite a bit. I’m not fully caught up on the threads but did read about your hypo and was sorry to hear it, but glad that you are back on track now. I’m lucky that my hypos don’t tend to be extremely low for the most part and that when they have gone lower than normal I’ve recognized what was happening and managed to get on top of it quite quickly, especially as I live alone and don’t have anyone to feed me glucose syrup! I think it is great and inspiring with all your swimming. Possibly you are making your muscles more insulin sensitive with all that work?

Looks like I may have finally kicked off the last of the water weight although I will wait a day or two to ensure that it doesn’t just come back on. I was 91.7kg this morning and that was after eating a fairly large meal last night. I’ve been ensuring that I eat 2-3 eggs each day along with lots of water and veggies and some nuts. So not a full on egg fast by any means, but it still seems to be working. Fingers crossed, after weeks of not losing anything I may finally be on track to get below 90kg by the end of the month!

Good morning everyone. My day begins with the gym. Was planning to cycle but there was a thunderstorm and so the car it was. I did my workout and I’m back to having breakfast – just a protein shake with blueberries. No milk. I’ve always preferred mine without the milk. Dark chocolate sounds good. I am not much a milk chocolate person. Now I do have a few questions about dairy and noodles:
    1. Does this mean that I should not have the cottage cheese or yoghurt stuff on the recipe guide?
    2. I was looking at the tofu shiratake noodles. Are they ok to have?

Verano in terms of working out I do believe that hiring a trainer at least once a week would be a good way to start. I say this because I used to be a trainer myself (huh what happened right). Till today, I always consult with other trainers, as our bodies change as we get older. And after surgery, childbirth, injury that really takes a toll on our bodies. My teacher trainer once said that men are like trucks – they can drive into a tree and that truck will still be in an ok shape to be driven. Women, however, we are ferraris and once we crash that ferrari, well….. ( we do take longer to heal for some reason – how unfair is that!!). I always remember that saying.
Many people don’t believe in investing in a trainer (I know they are expensive). But if anybody has the means, do try it, you will see a difference. Do a group workout. Join classes. My problem, like I say has never been about working out (though it has been lately since I am on vacation). I am not overweight – but I do carry my weight around my midsection (nastier than being overweight because it is not seen much). All that fat around my liver, pancreas,…..hmmm need I say more. I am told that I have to work extra hard to get rid of that. Sugar and carbs being the biggest 2 evils in my diet.
I am hosting a tea party with my neighbors tomorrow. This is an annual summer thing I do with them (we meet up weekly and rotate). How on earth am I going to provide the food and desserts and not eat them together with my guests?? Help….

Hi Gaga – my day begins with avoiding the gym so am impressed with you!
In terms of the noodles – I eat Zero shirataki noodles which are made from the konjac plant and very very low in carbs (like zero) as they contain no digestible carbs. I believe the tofu ones are fine to eat but do contain more digestible carbs. Here’s a link if you want to read more about them. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/shirataki-noodles-101#weight-loss
In terms of the tea party – which sounds like a lot of fun – have a look at the recipes on DietDoctor.com. If you make some things that you can eat, then maybe you won’t feel so left out? I recently made low-carb avocado chocolate truffles which were pretty good!

And then there’s always strawberries and whipped cream, which sounds very tea party to me!

    Hi Gaga,
A popular option for buffet style come and share in mini frittatas (Spanish omelettes) If you use those flexible silicon muffin trays its really easy to batch make them. Just grease the tray, fry up an veg, or meat that you want to put into the frittatas. Fill the muffin trays and then top up with the egg mixture and bake in the oven.

The advantage with the silicon muffin trays is that they are so easy to turn out, and they are popular hot or cold.

Thank you JGwen and Kafin. It makes tomorrow so much easier. Frittatas sounds like a great plan for all actually. I did look up the diet doctor menu and noticed the bread. Yum…..prepackaged gluten free bread is horrendous. From the ingredients it sounds pretty good. I will put that on hold until after the party. Something to experiment with for sure and I may have to order that zero shirataki noodles as it is not available in this little village of mine. I do like that low carb avocado chocolates and it will be part of the dessert tray. That will satisfy my sweet tooth indeed. I have been very good these last few days with no desserts. I have been tempted to get chocolates etc… but I did resist. This willpower thing is definitely not an easy thing at all. Enjoy your evening.

Hi Gaga – Well done on your resistance! You can do this. Sounds like you have the afternoon tea under control.🌺🌺 Avocado chocolates!!
There are many good keto bread recipes out there. I have made this one https://lowcarbyum.com/coconut-flour-flax-bread-or-muffins/#wprm-recipe-container-24581 a couple of times and like it. The “loaf” doesn’t rise very much so the bread is quite dense, but it toasts well and goes well with some nut butter spread, or some Philly cheese, or under eggs/bacon.
I was watching Nigella the other night and she made a crab meat rolls as finger food. https://www.nigella.com/recipes/tuna-and-crab-and-avocado-wraps Probably a bit fiddly, but I thought I might try it using Nori sheets instead of wraps – along the lines of this https://www.ruled.me/keto-sushi/
I use Konjac noodles often too – they fill me up (good fibre) and add interest to a stir fry etc.

    Good morning!
Today I have a day to myself so I’ll be watching Wimbledon and catching up on my jigsaw! No cooking for others so I really can just please myself about food. I’m interested to see what happens with the ‘egg fast’ next week.
S-g glad you seem to have things under control again now. I guess in the hot weather you are just going to have to be extra careful. I was following Wendy’s lead in keeping chocolate in the fridge but again it was only the dark stuff. That lasted about two days because I just prefer my chocolate at room temperature! I’m definitely going to try the avocado truffles. I wonder if they might be good with a little peppermint extract?
Gaga thank you for your suggestions. I did have a personal trainer many moons ago but I have mobility issues now. I’ve had both hips replaced and a revision last January. My surgeon was not happy for me to have physio because of the fear of dislocation. I do feel that it’s time now to start some sort of program again but not sure about a personal trainer. It may be worth looking into though.
Cat I didn’t get around to making my ‘resolutions’ yesterday but I will make an effort over the next day or so to work out exactly what I do want from this plan now. I feel that I do need a real shake-up though!
So whatever you have planned for today ….. make it a good one!

Hi all, back to swimming everyday although today, after shopping in the morning, it is now too hot so will have to wait until tonight. The avocado chocolate sound lush, especially with V’s suggestion of some mint essence. I have a friend who regularly makes avocado cheesecake but I seem to miss out every time I see her. I will scour back for the choccie recipe, is it on this thread?

I tried having a go with a personal trainer and the first thing he asked about was my diet. When I told him about BSD he did rather a lot of tutting and said he wanted me to increase carbs to 130g daily but I was right about the amount of fat I ate. Couldn’t budge him so I didn’t go back.

I still have 4 children at home so I‘ve already made blueberry and banana muffins this morning. The swimmer and runner need them. I’m feeling very righteous that I didn’t even have a taste.
I do yoga and walk for exercise. I’m hoping when swim team ceases on Friday until fall that I can increase my activity. I need to go to the chiropractor first and deal with some hip pain. At any rate, thanks to the Fast800 I’m well within healthy weight range and my weight can’t be automatically blamed for whatever is going on. *weight seems in the US to be a doctor’s first thought, even if you have an earache🙄😀
Continue on everyone. You are doing marvelously and I love learning here.

WOW! S-g that’s awful glad you didn’t go back. We probably know far more about nutrition for diabetes than the “professionals “ do!
I’m definitely trying the avocado truffles over the weekend!
7babies I think if you keep you eye on your weight each day then it’s easier to cut back if you’ve had too much of the ‘good’ stuff the day before. I know lots and of people won’t/don’t weigh each day and I guess it’s ‘horses for courses’. We all find our own way.
I have had a really good day today, alone with my jigsaw and tennis. Feeling really relaxed so hopefully will catchup on some well needed sleep tonight.
Hope you all have a good evening and a good nights sleep.

    Afternoon all!
I slept in this morning and then it is grocery day so out I went. Groceries are put away, menus are posted to myfitnesspal , net carbs are 16 for next week and average calories are 814. I haven’t done a whole week at 800 calories so this will be a first. Fat is 60% so hopefully won’t starve

Verano, it helps me to have a January goal. I would love to ring in the new year with goals reached instead of having to set the same goals.

Good evening Violinist, I am sure this is probably a rookie question and I probably should know but how do you calculate net carbs rather than total carbs ?

    Many thanks Lucia

    Hi Lucias!
If you live in America your carbs have the fiber still in it as a total. So we have to subtract the fiber from the carbs.

Violinist, I agree with your comment about goals – I stopped making diet and exercise ones years ago after realizing they didn’t stick and I was making myself feel worse but with this WOE, I think I can be more specific about my goals and actually achieve them. My only one for this past new year was to use all makeup and bathroom products before buying more! Much more achievable and I’m clearing space and saving money!
My batteries for my breathalyzer quit on my last night so that is my most important task of the day – I’m thinking of fashioning a holster so I can carry it around with me and quick draw when I feel the need. That won’t look nerdy it all, I mean it is LA. 😂🤣
