Hi Lucky and the other folks who inhabit this thread, another mini-target hit today for me, I reached 5 stone off since I started dieting last year. That’s a fairly large dog or child I’m no longer carrying around. Had a day off as a reward, but although I relaxed my focus on the carbs for just one day, including having another small portion of the birthday cake I still haven’t finished yet, I found I still hit just over my usual non-fast day 1600 calories, which was very pleasing. Shows me that despite the lure of the Indian takeaway we had for tea and the mental carte blanche to have alcohol and treats I didn’t over indulge. Next mini target now only 5 lbs away is the obese BMI threshold at 30.

that cake recipe link I posted earlier
    http://paleononpaleo.com/paleo-recipes-portuguese-almond-cake/

I just worked out dividing it down to a smaller size, and the calories and carbs
the original recipe was for 8 people – it had 6 eggs, so I calculated one sixth
    – if that was big enough for two portions, 140 calories and 9 carbs – plus whatever fruit you have with it

for a standard size portion, 202 calories, 13 carbs

so not everyday, but special occasion
and I don’t bake enough to know whether it’s feasible to swap out the honey for stevia or similar?

Unfortunately it’s not so cheap to ‘trial and error’ recipes made with almond flour as it would be with self raising is it?

Righto am off to bed, I’m done for the day. See you all in the morning hopefully! Sleep well 🙂

    Hi
It’s made with ground almonds rather than almond flour – whilst not cheap, looks a lot cheaper than the flour form a quick search.
I’ve got plumbers here first thing, so probably won’t log in for a while – hope that your journey goes smoothly Lucky, and if your not logging in while away, have a fantastic break

Thanks Gymgirl ☺ I’m raring to go!

Frog, thank you 😊 Yes ground is a tad cheaper than flour. The only person I’ve seen religiously saying you can’t use the two interchangeably is Elana Amsterdam. I’ve found little difference in the texture of flour and ground. And used both in baking successfully. I hope someone can answer your question about the sugars 😊

Lucky i buy ground almonds at Lidl where the packet is bigger and cheaper i think about £1.30 wish for 150 grammes, hope thats helpful to someone. Someone at a health shop told me that ground almonds is the same as almond meal. another useless piece of information someone might be able to store away.

    Happy Holiday!!

Morning Josie 🙂 Yes, I get mine in Aldi or Lidl, much MUCH cheaper than other supermarkets. And cheaper if you just want to make a cake that has say 100g of almond flour in than going to H&B for a 500g bag of flour that costs nearly a tenner. It’s still not as cheap to trial recipes as ordinary flour though. And I hate food waste, it’s something I actively try not to do. I will eat the frozen avocados even if they’re awful. Lol.

Tokyo my lovely 🙂 Thank you very much 🙂 And you too, enjoy your chocolates and frites. Not at the same time 😉 You’ve picked my backside off the ground more than once in this last two months yourself, with your common sense talking. I’ll even put the internet on on my phone to see how you did tomorrow morning. I will lurk occasionally but I don’t have a big data package on my phone so I may not post much.

Hi Bean, yes, that was my first week weight loss. As for the others and the other bits and bobs, I put them all in a blog post, easier than typing them all out individually 😉
    http://luckymanekibsd.blogspot.co.uk/p/my-bsd.html

That’s the first 8 weeks. I’ll do similar after the second cycle.

Yes I did let her go. If it had just been an ordinary party, she’d have stayed at home. But with her friend emigrating, I didn’t have the heart, I’d have found that unforgiveable as a child so… Her father dropped her off at 8 and picked her up at 11. And then she was grounded again lol. She’s behaving now though 🙂

Thanks Lucky – I will try the cake recipe when I have an occasion that needs cake! – and report back.
I did look for a cake recipe around my birthday at the end of May, a week or so into BSD but didn’t find a low cal/carb one that sounded good (maybe my standards have changed)!

Having split the recipe down to a quantity that needs one egg, the recipe only needs an ounce of ground almonds – and I could even try splitting that and making half with honey and half with stevia to test- although in the scaled down version, the amount of honey was down to 14 grams.

  • posted by Lucky Maneki

Oh right, I see! I thought you’d split the recipe to bake it and sort of… portion the amount out, cals carbs etc? You’re baking a little of the mix for one portion? That won’t be so bad then, might be worth a try? And FWIW, all the cakes I’ve made with almond have frozen beautifully.

Hubby came in and said smiley face… thank God. It was emissions, mechanic said as was a diesel car they needed good runs, and asked when our last one was, which was Chester for the rugby a few weeks ago. Other than that, it’s just been local 3 mile runs, stop start. So he’s cleared the light, car is having a full service, which is due in August anyway, when we’re back. Now we’re rushing about putting last bits in car, need to pack around our huge bag of clothes! Even taking bare minimum is a lot for 5 people!

Thanks Frog! Hey, as for typos, just calling Bean ‘Mean’ every time I type Frog, I type Grog… lol. I have two Maneki money boxes 🙂 Shove all my coppers and 5ps in there. And I shove any lottery tickets under them too for good measure! I’m absolutely smitten with my cats. I am a crazy cat lady, just in a different way to the norm 🙂 Takes all sorts, eh? 😉

Brilliant news that nothing drastic is wrong with the car – have a great trip.

I have plumbers here at the moment, replacing a section of waste pipe that has been leaking into my flat for over two years (mostly v slowly, but still damaging wall, windows, window frames.
So – delighted that it’s finally getting done, but keep hearing a succession of “oh no’s” and “it shouldn’t be doing that’s” – I asked if everything was OK a couple of times, but have decided it;s best to let them get on with it.
Froglet is tucked away in the bedroom, and not very happy, but it will brilliant to have it fixed finally.

When I go away with Froglet, no clothes for her, but the ratio is about 2:1 on her stuff compared to mine – but I have got dreadful at packing now that I drive rather than go by train. – I didn’t pass my test until I was about thirty, then didn’t bother with a car for about ten years or so when I first moved to central London.

Well here’s another one closer to the 3000 posts……Happy holidays to the holidaymakers. Good luck with the car Lucky, we have similar probs with our car (not diesel). Every so often light flashes, error code says emission system. Our mechanic runs the computer checking systems without much to show for it, exc our fee, of course. My own diagnosis is that it is something to do with battery in our key/remote door opener gizmo bec every rime the error light flashes the battery in the remote dies!! 2 months, 3 months, should last 2 yrs! Haven’t replaced the latest battery, I’m an old fashioned girl, manual door opening or me🙄

Have had an eatey and cold weekend, almost a kg up this morning. Time to gird the loins again, reclaim hunger as my friend. Cheers everyone x

I’m here again! Had to take cat to vet as it was considering dying.. although to quote Monty Python (again), it ‘feels much better now’!! Still cost me £38 before 9.30am though. Grrrrr…

Tried my dark rye/linseed ‘shop bought’ bread this morning. It has a bit of a vinegary twang but is acceptable with scrambled egg on it and lightly toasted. I shall persevere and then make Elana’s version to compare!

Poor Froglet, hope she can run wild and free around the flat soon and your issues are sorted finally! My husband was a late driver too, 36 I think, months before he met me. It’s never ever appealed to me, nor my Mother or Brother. I’d be an awful road-ragey driver anyway.

Thanks Marsie 🙂 These new cars are daft, aren’t they? Sometimes too much information going on, we coped for years without on board computers! I had a gain this morning, I had a weekend with a treat (slice of cheesecake) but I’m going to walk walk walk this week! 🙂

Two Elana Rye Bread loaves in the oven, everything nearly packed apart from the frozen bits, excited now!

I just made two loaves in about 10 minutes Janey, just as simple as the porridge bread to do. The weighed amounts in mine if it’s any help avoiding cups were 112g almond flour, and 90g flaxseed. Everything else was tbsp and tsp amounts. It was flat though, but for the calories and carbs a slice, that won’t matter really. I increased the bicarb in this batch to 1 tsp instead of half, see if that makes a difference.
