Thank you so much, for the first time in my life it feels so achievable, I have found it so easy compared with other plans, and I am not getting bored at all. I never had the energy to cook before I started this as my sugars were so high, could only just manage to get myself out of bed each day, but in 7 weeks that has changed so much to the point I cannot explain how good I feel. Anyone starting this WOE don’t be frightened the first week is tough but if you perservere you feel amazing in such a short time. I have had a disappointing few weeks when staying on plan and even put on weight but listening to advice, carried on and the advice was correct you do lose again. I have decided to stay on plan for 12 weeks which takes me to xmas eve then break and start R2 xx

WOW Lisa67 – that is utterly INCREDIBLE!!!! I am so happy for you!!! And everyone else is doing so well too!! I am inspired by you all and so delighted for everyone.

Still in Plateau Land here but was secretly relieved when I got on the scales this morning, given that I have eased up on the tracking in the past few days (just life taking over). Went to a French food fair yesterday and couldn’t resist a few non-BSD snack goodies but, that said, I also made my main lunch one of raw oysters (refused the accompanying bread) and Perrier, and yesterday’s dinner was baked fish, so it would have been a LOT worse pre-BSD. I am making different choices and that’s something to celebrate in itself.

Have recommitted this morning to tighter tracking and more water this coming week. I’m going to kick this plateau’s arse and use all your successes as my re-motivator. My 5kg loss is modest – although I am super pleased with it and I know I haven’t been as strict as some – but I know I can do better!!

    Hi all,

Went for a walk this afternoon and managed to achieve 6,800 steps so 10,000 is do’able. I am on my feet and walking most of my shift at work too. I will now try to add a walk each day weather permitting๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒž. I keep looking at my bike in the garage but will have to take it one bum cheek at a time as I get so saddle sore when I haven’t been cycling in a while๐Ÿ˜ Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.

Well done Lisa67, you are doing brilliantly! CarbAddict, I’ve only lost 5kg so far too, let’s face it though, I’ve been a weekend wagon-Faller just about every weekend since I started!! But it’s Monday,so after going away this weekend I’m desperate to get back to the diet! It’s like an old friend! And you are right, my choices over the weekend were so much more restrained than pre bsd (apart from the wine, alas!!) so it is now ingrained!
I too am going to tighten up this week, let’s keep each other motivated and drop some more pesky kilos!

Forgot my lunch well to busy with kids so I had my yoghurt – 2tbs Greek yoghurt with chia seeds a raspberry and blueberries. Knew I had a late Clinic and wouldn’t be able to eat properly but my patients like bringing goodies so I brought a gluten free mince pie from they canteen. (This is a hospital so only cakes and pastries!) but my online this year and I made it last all day until tea! Pork chop celeriac chips and cabbage! I also got out my thin jeans from under the bed and there too big! Yeah!! Not lost as much weight as I wanted but inches have dropped off! Hubby did shopping today and brought most things plus flowers ๐Ÿ˜˜ So happy is he

Wonderful family birthday weekend away in a beautiful historic cottage in The Cotswolds that we felt very sad & bereft when our family left the day before us to return home. We were lucky missing the worst of the storms driving back to Sussex & before we left visited the wonderful Chedworth Roman villa that now has more mosaics under cover than when we last visited. The lovely food & wine of course meant it was a BSD disaster area with Beef Wellington, birthday cakes, champagne & nibbles & a Sunday roast lunch. However it did include walking & we did two lots of 10000 steps & that was a new record for us!
We are not weighing ourselves yet but trying to get back into our low carb eating routine that I think our digestive systems will be pleased with since some indigestion was experienced over the weekend no doubt mostly from the alcohol๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿท& carbs๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿž๐Ÿž๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ
It’s very inspiring reading all the posts of how well you are all doing so best feet forward now for us.

    Hi everyone

Back after a holiday and visiting friends and family, good to be back, like you Wendy1947 I did the best I could, difficult when you arrive at someone’s house and they say oh we have put on a buffet for you and the family, with plenty of wine – and you look along the buffet and think last week I wouldn’t be eating any of this let alone drinking, but needs must and I didn’t let it spoil our week away, I had decided before I would be as careful as I could without being a moaning dieter (I shouldn’t have eaten this I shouldn’t have eaten that) too wearing for my poor husband who eats everything in sight and never ever puts on any weight. But, I had lost 9.5 lbs the morning I left and inches to boot, still a long way to go, and at the end of the holiday I was really looking forward to getting back to the BSD and as I stepped on the scales I hoped there wouldn’t have been too much of a rise in weight, 2 lbs, not too bad, but I have felt bloated, I have had indigestion and had to take Gaviscon for the second time since I started the diet, I think it will take me a week to lose the 2lbs but have felt better as soon as I went back to the BSD way of eating and the indigestion disappeared. So I suppose that week was a washout and will have to be added on to the end, but to be honest I will go on until I have lost the rest of the weight I want to lose, – as I said before not a great difference in clothes, they are just comfortable now instead of tight, nothing has fallen down, but I have got into smaller sizes than I was wearing before – did I wear a bigger size to cover myself up – who knows – Sarah I don’t think you 5kg is modest I think its AMAZING – all of us are different with different amounts to lose, but for me this is the first time a diet has worked for over thirty years so I must have been doing something right – oh and by the way, hope you enjoyed the date! Love to all of you wonderful 1 October starters onwards and downwards, love P

I have been suffering from terrible leg cramps, which have been getting worse. Even my arms, side and neck have been cramping. I have been adding lots of extra salt to my diet to compensate for the large amount of water I am drinking, but it was only getting worse. The only relief I could find was putting a heating pad on the cramps. Yesterday, I started cramping during the day at work, so I did a little research. I found that a low carb diet can deplete your magnesium and potassium. I bought some supplements and took them last night. I am already seeing a big improvement. I wanted to pass along the info in case others are experiencing the same thing.

A new me thank you for posting your leg cramp experiences. I also had painful foot & leg cramp last Saturday but put it down to too much wine & eating carbs! I realise now that being away for the weekend I hadn’t taken my multi-vitamin pill that does include magnesium but not potassium. I suppose I previously would have got my potassium from eating bananas but of course they are discouraged on this diet being regarded as a tropical fruit! I need to find foods that includes potassium ๐Ÿ˜€

No, Sunshine girl, I am not taking Statins, or any other meds for that matter. I was relatively healthy before going on the BSD, but I had a family history of type 2 diabetes, cancer and high blood pressure. My weight was steadlily increasing over the years and I figured it was a matter of time before I developed some of these issues.

Week 3 and I only have lost 9 lbs. I’m diabetic type 2, on statins, blood pressure tablet, have stage two non alcohol fatty liver desease and an under active thyroid does this mean that I’ll just lose it more slowly because the majority of you all seem to be losing loads of weight very fast as the book says but I don’t. Since starting this diet I have been walking 60 – 75 mins 5 days out of 7 and am not drinking alcohol. I must admit that I do feel good on this diet better than I have for a long time though, I just feel a bit down as the last two weeks have only been 1lb each week. Any advice welcome.

I believe the underactive thyroid can certainly slow weight loss, my OH has this and is on blood pressure tablets and his rate of loss is much slower than mine, but 9lb is a pretty good return for 3 weeks, an average of 3lb a week. You may find you get a similar pattern to some of us going forward, where a low loss one week is followed by a larger one the following week. Keep the faith, you are feeling better so continue as you are, you are obviously doing the right thing.

Hi Lozzer57, How are your BGLs? Once they come down, your weight will come down. 9lbs is 4 kgs which is pretty good in week 3. I have an underactive thyroid, on tablets, and diabetic and I lost 10.6kgs in 8 weeks which is slower than many but it felt terrific to be BGL normal and that much lighter. With lower BGLs (normal in my case) I have continued to lose weight after the 8 weeks. Try not to be disappointed we all lose at different rates. If you stick at it the BSD will pay off for the effort. best wishes.

Lozzer57: yes it will take you longer and yes it will be frustrating and demotivating at times, but the point is that if you don’t stick at it your weight may well go up not down. We all lose at different rates: we have to live by our own pace and not that of others. Also, to give you some comfort, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Non-alcoholic Liver Disease a few years ago which was a real wake-up call: not being a drinker it was clear that the (carb) sugars in my diet were above what my liver could reasonably process and my insides were being damaged. It’s more common than anyone realises. My specialist’s only advice was to ‘lose weight and never drink any alcohol again’ – bypassing the fact that conventional diets like Slimming World weren’t working for me and I barely drank to begin with. I did cut out alcohol and I went on to research foods which detoxify the liver (such as broccoli, garlic and lemon) and incorporated more of them into my diet, cut out obviously sweet things (desserts, doughnuts etc) although I really struggled to reduce the carbs overall. I paid privately for a blood test every month to track my progress as I needed to see it working to stick at it. It did work – just over a year later my liver was declared ‘normal’ and it remains that way to this day. I still most stay off alcohol and sweet stuff, and I still eat those liver detox foods as often as possible. I didn’t lose any weight during the process though, because I still ate carbs and I didn’t move enough. For me the BSD is the last part of the puzzle: to kick the carb cravings into touch and see my weight come down. My point is that you may only be losing weight on the scales slowly, but maybe the biggest changes are what you can’t see happening inside: if you have reduced your carbs significantly then your liver is bound to start on the process of recovery and maybe your body is dealing with restoring health on the inside before it starts to show on the outside. This too is critical and sometimes your body can’t do both at once. Oh and it is VERY, VERY COMMON for weight loss to slow right down in week 2 and 3 and then pick up again in week 4. Keep at it and good luck!

General update from my end: not managing as of yet to kick this plateau’s bum into touch but that’s because I am ravenously hungry and eating a bit more than 800 kcals to satiate it. Time of the month-related issue I think. Plodding on, plodding on….. Have been stuck on this same plateau for a couple of weeks now (my own fault: I relaxed up on the carbs a bit to incorporate beans and lentils into my diet) so I am looking forward to moving past it at some point hopefully soon. Beans and lentils out – more fish back in. Dammit!

Great to hear you had a lovely weekend away Wendy1947 I’m sure you’ll soon be back on track. Isn’t it your husband checkup soon? I bet the doctor will be surprised and pleased with his results. I thought I read somewhere that a break in the diet can kick start weight loss again when you restart it. I’m planning on having a break over Christmas although I hope I don’t get indigestion like you PatC , did you suffer from it before the Diet? Congratulations on the birth of your grand daughter, is she your first grand child? My first grand child was born in June he is an absolute joy to our lives and more precious to us as he was a 3rd IVF attempt.
I want to say huge congratulations to A New Me and to Lisa67 on your great losses (if that’s a word) This is a great diet truly a new way of life. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™

We are all here for you and each day will get better. When I get that awful feeling of gnawing hunger, I tell myself that’s the feeling of fat being burnt off!
Also, the roasted broccoli and cheddar soup on the website so just about the best soup I’ve EVER had and is so filling and satisfying, really good for those days when hunger rules.

Good morning everyone & like PatC I am also struggling with what I’m eating & drinking having brought some tempting weekend leftovers back & I had a glass of red wine last night because I’m damned if I’m going to let an half full opened bottle of good wine get chucked out. I already have three half bottles of gone off wine from the start of this diet when we stopped having any alcohol that are still waiting for me to cook with! The thought of coc au vin hasn’t happened yet. However the rest of my husbands birthday cake went with him to his railway club & has all been eaten. I have about three inches of red wine left in my good bottle so two small glasses of wine?
Canidoit thank you & yes my husband will book his blood test on 5th December then see his GP. We haven’t stood on our scales yet but a pair of trousers still feels loose so I hope we haven’t badly sabotaged ourselves. My husbands bloods were awful after the weekend going up to 11 when they had been staying at 5 so it just shows how badly carbs & alcohol can impact on blood sugar levels.
I hope you are right Canidoit that a bounce back from having more calories will pep weight loss๐Ÿ˜€I have found after other holidays that fast on fast off seems to work! I too am looking at hunger pangs as a hopeful sign that something positive is going on with my body.
You are all really doing well so let’s keep on going because lots of us are nearing the end of eight weeks๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘We can do this!!!

I tried that broccoli and cheese soup but ruined it for myself by leaving the fresh thyme stalks in. They didn’t blend up very well and I was left with every mouthful having little annoying bits of stem sticking to the roof of my mouth. I’ll have to make it again sometime, but we’re going into summer here so maybe not for a while! I also love broccoli and bacon soup, or cauliflower and cream soup. Both of those I’ve always put in one small potato to give it the right creamy texture when blended, but you could try without.

    Hi everyone……

As we fast aproach the 2 month date 1/12/16 I wanted to check in.๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t tell you how happy am with this way of eating and the results it has achieved. I decided not to weigh myself during the two months but I knew back in April when I had my well woman check that I was 11st 5lb .My BMI was high too. My clothes fit better and some of them are very loose and I feel brighter and have more energy than ever before. My husband says I seem happier and more positive too. I was also starting to develop knee pain which has now disappeared. My belly fat has reduced so has my face fat. Not too happy about the face fat but it’s a small price to pay in my opinion. This is the first diet that has removed my MY urge to eat the bad stuff ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
During the two months I have had a few days off for family events , birthdays etc and one evening a week I drink a glass of wine….normally on a Friday.

The good news is I weighed myself yesterday and I now weigh 10st 1lb๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
I will continue to BSD until I reach where I want to be which is about 9stone 5lb. Without the scales again…it works for me as I think the fluctuations would get me down.
I am taking Christmas Eve, Day, and Boxing Day, New Years Eve, Day off. And Back on BSD in the new year. What I would say is that my breakfast and lunch during those days will still be BSD style as I love eating this way.
I still haven’t embarked on an exercise routine. My husband said if I want as a Christmas present he will pay for a new gym membership next year. I would rather have new clothes or a handbag for Christmas ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜€
Ok so I know I have rambled on a bit but I had to share this with you all. I look forward to hearing all your news and results as we head into December๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Good luck!! I am at the end of my first week and lost 9lbs, sticking to between 800 to 1000 and plan for the coming week is the 800.
Type2 and stuck behind a desk Monday to Friday I scanned the book at a local supermarket and read some of the testimony and thought..damn its serious, I could loose at least a toe. I reach the ripe old age of 40 next near and want to make 41 all body parts in tact.
I have tried all sorts, 5.2, slimmingplace*,weightlookers*. *names have been changed to protect the innocent! and non have been successful for me personally. I was eating grapes, melon and bananas etc all those things deemed healthy and good, I didn’t realise I was doing more harm than good.

Miss Ziggy what a fantastic result & I agree this diet is life changing & the best way to eat in the future.
I have lost my birthday weekend weight but waiting until Monday to weigh with my husband to check where we have both reached, although another week to go for our eight weeks. Our birthday food & drink although not hugely excessive certainly adversely impacted my husbands blood sugar level reinforcing our belief that we need to continue on the low carb way of eating. Planning not too carby Christmas food & drink is going to be interesting but we will have a drink & relax with eating a pudding. We are going to have two family Christmas meals this year & I will provide roast potatoes & mince pies etc for the family but my husband & I will have to try to resist the temptation of eating everything.
The recipe for broccoli & cheese soup sounds delicious where can I find it please?
Welcome thelightweight77 this is an amazingly supportive forum & losing 9lbs in your first week is very good & I suggest you read back through the posts to see how everyone progressed through their earliest week on this diet๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€ Good luck & do stick with it.

Well done Miss Ziggy, A New Me, Wendy1947, Fairyface – and everyone else. Including you PatC!! Have had a rubbish few days carb-wise wise, where I admit I have 90% forgotten about the BSD in amongst everything else going on. I feel bloated and horrible as a result. My brother arrived this morning and we went out on a boat with around 30 other people this afternoon and I just felt so big and ungainly in my swimming costume next to everyone else. So have come home, sat down and reminded myself how great I was feeling before, prepared some BSD meals for tomorrow… and my brother has agreed to join me (as far as he is able) during his stay. This means my also-overweight burger-chomping, beer-guzzling, high cholesterol-suffering younger sibling is about to go temporarily mainly vegan and try his first ever chia seeds for breakfast, hahaha. I’m hoping he lasts beyond 11am ๐Ÿ™‚

In comparison with some of your amazing losses, and well done to all of you who have lost huge amounts, to the people like me who have only relatively lost a little, we have lost, we have taken on board how important this diet is to our way of life, I definitely have more energy and have lost weight in odd places, my face, (cheeks), my neck, and my fingers to name a few, but it’s weight off. ITs a shame we are all over this World, how heavenly it would be to meet up and raise a glass or a cup of tea/ coffee and sit and have a chat, I just know we would all get on so well, love to all, Sarah tell that brother of yours to join us all in the BSD! I am really surprised ( I know I shouldn’t be) how much our diet affects our life ie, sleeping moods energy actual wellbeing.
I am very pleased to say my husband must be impressed with my diet as he has actually started cutting down carbs and he is certainly a carb addict much more than me really as he barely eats or drinks anything that doesn’t contain vast amounts of sugar. It’s been a week so far he hasn’t weighed himself or anything says he’ll know if he’s losing weight. We’ll see how it goes.

Good morning everyone & enjoying reading your posts. Amazing weight loss Suluro you must be so thrilled.
Sarah you just stick with it because you are so inspiring & show your brother how effective this way of eating is. Canidoit & PatC it looks like our bodies have reacted more slowly to this way of eating but isn’t it brilliant that we feel better, sleep better, more clothes fit us now & we have a much better understanding of how our bodies react to what we eat? This has been a revelation & eating revolution for me but we have been eating a little over 800 this weekend. I’m cooking an M & S roast chicken in a bag, one of their meal deals, as well as garlic mushrooms as a starter & ratatouille & roast cauliflower to go with the chicken. I am valiantly trying to resist opening the white wine that came with it but we will eat the Creme Brรปlรฉe but not put sugar on it.
Unfortunately it’s so easy to fall back into enjoying sweeter things & wine with that desire reactivated over our family weekend but I’m trying to keep going until the Monday weigh in & then one more week to complete our first eight week block. Suluro I agree thinking in eight week blocks is the manageable way to go because I have three more stone to lose!
Good luck everyone completing their final eighth week๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€

Well done everyone. After a really good night outlast night with two g&ts, mulled wine not a bit drinker) and a three course dinner . Which I really enjoyed, just fished out the potatoes and did not have the biscuits on the cheese board. I am quite proud of myself that I can control my eating when out for dinner. Unlike my wobble at my sister in laws a few weeks ago. Onwards and downwards with a big smile on my face.

I have now completed 8 weeks (last tuesday) and lost a total of 12.3kgs (which I am really happy about and finally wearing clothes that I have not been able to wear for several years.

I have had 2 evenings of eating naughty things – thanksgiving (pecan pie, bread roll and ice cream) and then yesterday 2 chocolate cookies, fairy cake and several handfuls of crisps – today I feel terrible! Headache and sleepy…… Plus 2lbs on…eek. Both of those days I kept my brunch low in Calories. My plan was to continue for another 4 weeks but on xmas/special events relax a little….mmmm not sure I am going to do that now!!!

Has anyone got experience of the move to the 5:2 as I still have 2 stone to lose and I know it will slow down but I don’t want to put weight on after my 8 weeks of hard work!

    Cheers for any advice

    Michelle

Well my “urge” to run didn’t go too well. I must have forgot I’m not 20 anymore! My knees immediately began to protest and then my hamstring started cramping. I think I’ll stick to fast walking – much easier on my middle aged body. We are having our first snowstorm of the year today, so running in winter conditions probably wasn’t a good idea anyhow.

Hi A new me. Don’t give up on starting to run again. There are lots of apps out there aiming to get people running. A particularly good one is the NHS couch25k which is a nine weeks course aiming to get people running, slowly, for half an hour non stop. I started it when I was 57 and am running half marathons now. Admittedly I’ve not been massively overweight during this time but there are people who are doing this and lots of people in their 60s and 70s doing it too. The NHS site also has a very supportive forum too.

Thanks for the encouragement, AnnieW. I’ll check out that app and the site. I’m so impressed to hear that you are running half marathons. What an achievement!

Hi canidoit, sorry my wording must have been bad, not a new grand daughter she is two and my grandson is also two, my daughters had their first children two weeks apart, so when I said I had had my grand daughter I meant for the day 7.30 in morning til 7 at night ( on a Thursday each week) – and our grandson on the Friday each week – keeps us fit! But I quite fancy a drink afterwards, but the only time I have wine is on holiday and Saturday night ( one glass) since I started BSD. Hope that clarifies my poor wording.

Lost half inch of my hips today first change there in all of the eight weeks, I will post stats at end of week but because of my hols it’s really week 7 for me, I will just keep on, its dealt with the indigestion I have had for the past five to ten years, zonked and gone, I have started sleeping better, and have a lot of energy, so no more carbs for me, sorry don’t very often rant twice in a week x
