DAY 1 of 7. The sun is shining beautifully here to kick off our week of ‘sunshine’. My slate is now wiped clean and my journal has a brand new page. I will not blot my copy book this week.
So my goal this week is to replace red wine with a fizzy, no calorie, summer drink to accompany all those chilled soups and salads. All suggestions welcome. I have also taken out of the wardrobe my ‘top of the future’. I bought it several months ago but have never worn it. It’s lovely and summery, floaty sleeves and pink. It was very slightly snug around the hips when I bought it but I’m not even going to try it on until I reach my ‘lowest weight for years’ again.
Look forward to some company for the next seven days …. just seven days!

on 19 Jun 2018 at 08:00 in Fast 800Hi MrsT, I had several periods where daily weighing didn’t show a reduction even on 800 BSD but as a weekly average my lowest weight loss was 1.6 pounds in the seventh week, when I was very close to my target. The highest was my first week at 9 pounds and I lost 26 pounds in total over the 8 weeks.

Glad you are back on track Nicola. Well done Krysia. Not the best of weeks for me too much time in hotels and celebrations. But no excuses back on track today with a clean slate over on ‘Mid Summer’s Day…
See you over there for another ‘one week at a time’. -

on 19 Jun 2018 at 07:55 in Fast 8001 1/2 pounds this week, it would have been more I think, I was a pound lighter on my Monday weigh in, but I didn’t fast yesterday and had some rice, so I don’t think the loss is water as I have still been eating some carbs. I also measured myself this morning so I can track whether I am shrinking or growing in the all important shorts dimensions. I didn’t measure myself when I was originally losing the 8 stone, except for the waist to check on some obesity measures, but that only seems to be up one cm from where I was at target so I think most of the extra must be on hips and thighs as I suspected, so I measured those as well, and will see what another week brings.
Regarding treats, I am lucky that many BSD friendly foods are treats to me. I particularly love seafood and strawberries, (and a lovely bit of rib eye steak). Stodgier treats are still sometimes appealling and now I am maintaining can be indulged in occasionally, but offer me two plates, one with cake and one with strawberries I will always go for the strawberries.

on 19 Jun 2018 at 07:55 in Fast 800I’ve found you!
Hi everyone and welcome to all newcomers.
Sorry to hear of your loss momof2. Not a nice time.
I am back from hols. I weighed 10st. 3 and a half pounds in Friday morning after we got back but this morning, miraculously it’s 10st and half a pound! After the crisps, nuts, baguettes, pains and raisins, wine egg that’s pretty good. Mind you we did lots of walking, swimming and cycling in between some cracking thunderstorms! France seems pretty wet to say the least this year. Diverted off a major road on way home because of flooding and land slips. Some of the campsites were pretty squidgy to say the least! Motor home stood up to the test though. No leaks. Apart from leaving one of the skylights open …….. but that’s another story!
Sunshine girl i hope you haven’t been washed away and are enjoying your pool and hope the rain is getting less.
Good luck to everyone with your goals and remember “one step at a time”.
Hugs to each

on 19 Jun 2018 at 07:53 in Fast 800Morning everyone! 5 1/2 pounds for me this first week…it’s my first week so I know it’s water weight, and that other weeks won’t be as much. For some of the more experienced here, what have you noticed in terms of weight loss over the 8 weeks? Did you have periods where it seemed to stall? Did you just stick to the plan and it then just kicked in and started losing again? Did any of you notice the “whoosh effect” at any stage on your weight loss journey?
Well done everyone 👍🏻 Let’s keep going -

on 19 Jun 2018 at 07:42 in Fast 800JGwen – That is great advice, thank you. I’ve told people I’m on an eight week gym challenge as that seems to be quite in vogue at the moment. The pester power is strong though.
My dad was on the cusp of going on medication for type 2 diabetes, and used BSD to lose 20kg and reverse the diagnosis, which is what triggered me into action. I was so reluctant to count calories after years and years of yo-yo dieting, but I think I might be able to stick to this. And damn, the blackspot, I can’t argue with that logic! Congrats on your success!

Woohoo! Yay! party!!!
However, it is my first week, so I guess a good bit of that is water….
However…
Woohoo yay! Party!! With smoked salmon salad and fizzy water.Treats? Aren’t they what got me here?
I’m being treated for what?
I am treating myself well by washing my cells in all the lovely nutrition that all the salad and veggies are providing and loosing the weight that will make me very I’ll or worse…This IS treating myself.
Sugar be damned.Though a really nice strawberry is a beautiful thing…

Good morning BSD world!
I have finally got around to making the decision to give this diet another go…
Its my own fault, I side tracked and back tracked til I fell off the track. Have recently been quite poorly too so that hasn’t helped.
Need to lower my blood sugar figures and lose weight…Hope you’ll have me!!

on 19 Jun 2018 at 07:30 in Fast 800Hi sydneysider,
My technique for dealing with temptations comes from the idea that weight is just a figure on a scale, but working out WHY I want to get to my next target is a much more powerful motivator. For example, saying you want to get down 2 stone is fine, but its abstract, not many people are going to see you standing on the scales in your bathroom in a morning. – However, maybe you enjoy gardening and the spare tyre is a limit, maybe you have some special event coming up that you want to look good for. For me its about riding, and the impact my weight has on my horse and opportunities to go on riding holidays.
A side benefit I have found from this technique is that it enables you to side step the pester power to just have one. – People seem to have more respect for you controlling your diet because you are preparing for a sporting event than if you are dieting to reduce weight. -

Hi Jocasta,
Just as a last aside on the protein issue, I have been looking into the research published so far on autophagy, it appears that current research identifies that just a small amount of protein will switch off this process. Perhaps this is a topic you may wish to add to your research? -
Have lost a quarter of a pound today so now 9st. 4 1/4lbs – it feels like all of it around the tummy. Am so pleased it is slowing down as I Am trying to focus on blood sugars rather than losing too much weight.
Am trying a 21 hour fast today and will eat at 11am before I go off to work. This is the first 21 hour fast I have tried. Tuesdays are a good day to try this as I don’t leave for work until just before lunch and can eat before I drive – much safer for everyone on the road as I get a bit fuzzy around 16 hours into a fast.

on 19 Jun 2018 at 06:32 in Fast 800Hi everyone, I’ve really enjoyed reading along with your journeys! So much inspiration here.
I’ve stuck to 800 calories for nine days, but had a slip up with one day of drinking and another where a banana and latte pushed me over to 1100. Following that, I’ve lost 1.3kg (2.8lb) – I can’t tell if that is a good result or not? I was hoping it would be slightly more. I’m just under 80kg (176lb).
I’ve found the diet fairly easy to follow so far. I think drinking will be my undoing, with a few months of hens, weddings and 30ths on the horizon. Today, my workplace has been sent lots of chips and chocolate and everyone is going for it – the smell of sugar is in the air and its driving me crazy! I’ve had a little chocolate rice cake treat but don’t want to blow out my carb count either (I’m going for sub-40g).I would love to hear from others: what is your technique for coping with temptation? What are so good low carb treats to keep on hand?

on 19 Jun 2018 at 05:13 in Fast 800Hi Zoomers,
My travelling scales have told me today that I have lost 2 lb. I’m really pleased as being away from home it’s much more difficult for me to stick to the fast 800. On the plus side there is a gorgeous pool here which I will really miss when I return home.
I really enjoy reading everyone’s comments on the forum, it’s very encouraging to read of others tips and tales on this way of eating.
Im flying home Friday, and I will be back onto the proper Fast 800, but at least whilst I’ve been away it has made me realise that if you are careful about what you chose to eat you can get by in real life. So hopefully there will be no more yo yo diets for me.
Good luck to us all. -
Hurrah the scales in the bedroom say I have lost 2 lb. I’m so pleased that’s 17 lb in 4 weeks. As I’m away from home and not in control of the kitchen I’m relying on willpower and not being able to follow the fast 800 as I would at home it’s a great result for me. I’m flying back home on Friday and my scales will be coming too !
I had a little pudding on Sunday, at the celebratory lunch, it was 4 courses I had the main course and a small pudding, god how I savoured it. Half a glass of wine as I don’t really like it but I wanted to be able to raise a glass as the appropriate moments.
Looking forward to going home now, but I will miss the pool. Better go and get in there.
Hope all of us are doing well, thank you to all who commented on my scales coming with me! Maybe next time I’ll just take a photo of them! -
Hi
I recently talked to my doctor about this diet and he is kind of shaking his head towards the idea of me starting it. I was thinking of starting the diet anyway but I am currently taking metformin and medication for blood pressure. I am not sure if I should stop or limit the amount of medication I have as I don’t want to speak to me doctor knowing he would not want to advise me doing this diet. What’s the best thing to do?
-
slippery slopes – bought a bottle of wine today – blame it on the Pioppi & guts book that keep saying red wine in moderation is good for you. Had made ratatouille & had that with smoked mackerel.
On the plus side, I bought a sweat shirt two sizes smaller than I’ve been wearing, (in a sale, choice of a size larger or two smaller) the arms are a bit tighter than I’d like, but generally it fits OK. -

on 18 Jun 2018 at 20:34 in Fast 800Evening all!
For those who don’t know me, I’ve had some muscle weakness issues and so today I had some nerve conduction tests. How painful?! At one point there was a wire inserted into my leg while they basically put electricity through it. Ouch! So, I’m fairly impressed with myself that I stuck to my goal today and I’m all prepared for day 1 proper tomorrow as I head back to work after 10 days off, lovely fresh crab salad packed for lunch. So much easier to follow this plan in the summer…
Mrs T, your boob story did so make me chuckle. Aren’t our bodies very complex and oh so wonderfully unique!
Kaz, I think with heart failure it’s a very fluid thing. He can be up and down but now that he’s stable I have a bit more freedom now as he’s usually pretty independent when well.
So, wish me luck for tomorrow and good luck all of you weighing in!

Jocasta, it is definitely something to think about, protein requirements. My maximum requirements came out to
62g/day, but during my loss period of 10 months it worked out to 50-52g. I’m quite certain that I didn’t lose any
muscle mass, which many of us have concerns about. I hope this makes a difference in reaching your goals 🙂 🙂 🙂Allie

on 18 Jun 2018 at 19:28 in Fast 800Evening, All! I met your observations with a big dose of self deprecating humor this morning, Maggie, and I
sincerely hope that they were intended in that way 🙂 Like you, my diet attempts in the past have confined
themselves to semi starvation calorie restriction, and while effective, the weight piled back on with usually
more attached to it. I knew nothing about the effects on those with insulin resistance, and the skies opened
and a new era began when this piece of the puzzle was revealed to me. I have found that the BSD is so
effective at burning fat from previous storage areas, that my body shape has completely changed, inspite
of being at the same ideal BMI weight as before. I used to have a very mild pear shape, but I now
resemble more of a narrow banana! Perhaps age, or being post menapausal is the floating variable, but
that is still the unknown quantity that remains illusive for me. All part of the adventure, I think! 🙂 -

If you felt able to you could try resetting your BMR by fasting?
https://idmprogram.com/fix-broken-metabolism/ -
Oh…oh…now this may be a way forward for me. I am actually eating 70 grams of protein a day and should be eating 64 according to your formula. Thank you so much.
-
Hello, Jocasta. I wonder if it would be a help to you to break out your macros? Often problems surface there,
as our diet is a low carb, medium protein, high (healty plant based) fat. JGwen has expertly outlined the reason
for medium protein. As point of departure in determining what moderate protein actually means, take a look
at this formula to determine your requirements. Use I g of protein for every kg of IDEAL body weight to arrive
at your requirements. Excess does indeed gets stored as fat.Best

Enjoy it Maggie. I really like the style of writing, informative but not couched in too much pseudo scientific babble.

on 18 Jun 2018 at 17:47 in Fast 800As mid summer’s day falls next weekend I thought we could celebrate this week with a really summery feel. So starting tomorrow maybe we could pick a goal that will help us to enjoy the summer more. Whether that’s just drinking more water, eating lots of salads or chilled soups. Getting into a pair of favourite trousers or a swimsuit. For those of us still ‘travellIng’ maybe we could find a piece of summer clothing ‘of the future’ as an incentive. Maybe we could share some favourite summer meals and drinks.
See you tomorrow for our ‘summer fair’! Clean slate, new goals and a bright and sunny outlook to match the season. -
Verano I’ve got the Pioppi diet waiting to be read. Since adopting this way of eating I’ve almost completely stopped watching television apart from informative videos. My brain is working so much harder!

JGwen – what a lovely idea to send thank you letters to Dr MM. Am relaxing on the sofa of a lovely pub/restaurant opposite to where I work. Am on my second cup of coffee and tsp of cream as I relax before I go back to work. Will listen to the poem later.

Yes, don’t worry about it. Google “whoosh effect” and all will be clear. All the same it’s a long time without the scales shifting- perhaps double check that your calories and carbs measurements are accurate. What level of carbs is he aiming for? It could be he needs to go lower for maximum impact. I and some others feel we need to restrict to 20g a day.
How are you getting on?

Hi, my partner and I have been on the 800 BSD for 18 days now.
My partner (DT2) has lost over 3 inches from his waist measurement, but the scales aren’t reflecting any loss at all!
Is this normal?
Thanks
Cass 😊 -
Yesterday we stopped for a light meal at a lovely hotel after our walk. I had prawns and salad and was pleased that I remembered to say that I didn’t want the Marie rose sauce with it. Sometimes I do forget to say that I don’t want the salad dressing. Have definitely lost more weight. Trousers are loser round the middle.

The only other thing I can think of Jocasta, is using one of the apps to record your daily intake. I use myfatsecret. By logging everything you may see a pattern that you currently are not aware of.

Weigh Tuesday which is end weight of one week and start weigh of the new one!
-
Tuesday is day 1 which makes Monday day 7, right? It seems like most people just weigh on a Tuesday though (or am I wrong?!) rather than their end weight on Monday and start weight on Tuesday? Confusing! 🤔
-
Thanks all for your replies! I’m glad to be posting on here with some good news again. As of this morning I’m back on the wagon 💪🏻💪🏻 I made a big batch of soup last night, so I’ll be having that this week for lunch, a low carb shake for breakfast, and then meat and veg for dinner. I’m going to weigh myself tomorrow in time to start the new 7 day challenge, and hopefully get a few lbs off by next week. Looking forward to the next 7 days!
