posted by mrsmoog on Query re Zucchini and Pumpkin Seed Muffin Recipe
on 2 Mar 2016 at 23:56 in Welcome to the BSDI made them on Monday and they were disgusting πabsolutely inedible. I think maybe there is too much coconut flour in the recipe? I’ve been looking at other low carbon muffin recipes and they only use 50g coconut flour to 4 eggs . I think I’ll have another go using less flour and report back

Thank you Janet1973. I hope you are right. My mood is so snappy. Looking forward to being further into this. cheers

Thanks AllieBee. Glad you found it encouraging. You’ll be posting your successes soon – look forward to seeing them. π

Just been reading your thread Sue. There’s never a dull moment is there? You are doing a brilliant job, for your family and yourself. I wish you every succes!
-
That’s very good news – well done, you sound really happy. You have been so supportive and shown an interest in others here that it’s great you have something to celebrate for yourself. I think some new clothes would be in order all the same. Have a fizzy water on me β₯

Brilliant, Janet … Well done. And absolutely agree we should not compare ourselves with others … It’s our own shoes we walk in … Even if they are a little big now!! Not mine … You understand … I still have to get to your stage … But yours!! π X

Hi Spirirt and Justabloke. Thanks for both of your posts, as they are both encouraging. I am really pleased that my blood sugar seems to have stabilised – I don’t measure, but I had reactive hypoglycaemia, and it is much better since I started the diet. As that was my main reason for starting, I am pleased. However, the way I understand it, unless the visceral fat goes, the progress is not permanent. That is the reason for my concern. However, after hearing your responses, I think maybe if I keep going, the fat will eventually go. I’ll stop whinging, and post as soon as I see a difference!

Oh, Sue, I’m so sorry you have yet more stress and pain to deal with. I sincerely hope that tomorrow you really can have a quiet day … And as for catching up … Please make sure you are kind to yourself and care for you as much as you do others. If I was in your shoes in the very recent past (3 days ago!!!), looking after me would probably be treating myself to something that really was making me ill … Good on yer, girl!! Keep at it X

Yay for Happy dancing!!!
Congratulations on your success and thanks for posting this. It is such an encouragement.
I am part way through my second week and can’t wait to go clothes shopping.

I’ve just had a trying-on fest, the clothes I bought for my holiday and only wore once before they no longer fitted. Well now they do! That’s how I can really tell that I have lost weight from my hips and waist. Its like going shopping without having to pay for anything!
-
Great. Look forward to hearing your progress π
-
Hi, thank you for your reply and giving me the confidence I needed. I am doing ok but only lost 2lb since Saturday ?? I did expect a lot more but no discomfort so will keep going…To be honest I am loving this!!

I was in asda earlier and I was determined to buy full fat Greek yogurt, but had to search a bit for it as there were way too many fat free stuff in the way. I’ m just starting as well and it is quite daunting. But I look at the recipes on here as well as in the book and keep in my mind that no potatoes, bread or pasta. Lots of green Γ nd leafy vegetables. I already use butter as I know margarine is really bad. Full fat plain yogurt and Greek yogurt. Well that’s what I’ve learnt already and it’s only been a day π

Today my total weight loss to date is 34 pounds, meaning I’ve lost 15% of my starting body weight. Fasting BG this morning was 4.8. And I’ve had to buy new clothes – size 16/18 instead of 22/24. Fortunately I still had some old trousers because the ones I started to struggle into are now sliding down! Oh, and new undies *blush*
Off to continue happy dance π

Hi there I started the BSD today and have a gym induction tomorrow and wanted to know what is the best thing to eat before going. I haven’t excercised for years and worried I may become hypoglycemic.

posted by Petra on Are there any ladies with PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) trying BSD?
on 2 Mar 2016 at 20:36 in BSD Med Style Low CarbHi Kimberley,
thank you for your post.
This is my second week on BSD and I only went down by half a kilo. I was so hopeful after reading how much weight some people lost.
PCOS sufferers’ bodies react differently to a lot of things. At the moment my hormones are playing a havoc with my mood but I am determined to keep going and stay hopeful.
Has your blood sugar gone down while being on BSD? I am pre-diabetic and fear ending up with the diabetes. My uncle just has had his second leg amputated because of diabetes. Seeing it first hand I must try my utmost to minimize getting it.
I hope you will lose some more weight soon.
Good luck!

I’m already loving the food. Had bacon and broccoli stir fry and wow it was lovely. I’ve never stir fried broccoli before and was worried it would taste like under cooked veg, but to my surprise it was so nice. I added crushed chilli and Cayenne pepper and a handful of flaked almonds which I thought I didn’t like, but stir fried it all went together well.
It’s given me more confidence to try other stuff now.

27 pounds down- week 7, day 3. I’m on thyroid.
-
My thyroid has been under-active for ten years now. Although I cant blame my excess weight on its effects, I am sure it doesn’t help.
Would be really interesting to know if other sufferers have succeeded on the BSD and if their weight loss stacks up against those who don’t?
Good luck everyone. I am only on day two but this site and the book is very inspirational.

Hello ‘Newbie’
I’m a 6 day into the diet newbie. I’ve lost 12lbs in weight already & can’t believe how great I feel on this diet & believe me I’ve tried lots! I was a bit ansy on day 2 but my energy levels have increased tenfold as has my wellbeing.
Hope all goes well for you & good luck βΊοΈ -
I can understand that. I think we have all found it a little strange that all the traditional dieting rules are being put aside now. I still see posts on here where people are talking about using low fat products. It seems we can’t help re-lapsing into old habits sometimes!
-
Thanks Janet, even though I’ve read the book still finding it tricky to get my head round but getting there.
-
You should find within a couple of days that your hunger is much less due to the lack of carbs. All the best!
-
Hi, I have been wondering that as I am now eating less than 1/3 of what I used to, perhaps going to the loo every 3 days is the new normal. I always ate lots of fruit and veg and I wouldn’t say I feel uncomfortable. What do others think?
-
Hi Susan
The book doesn’t really specify how much fat, carbs and protein to eat. Its more about excluding carbs rather than worrying about the other stuff. But you only have 800 calories to play with so you will probably gravitate towards foods that fill you up for the least number of calories. Fats often come in liquid or semi liquid form like butter and oil so they won’t fill you up but they are actually good at making you feel satisfied. So, if you can incorporate a good amount of meat or meat substitute (protein), vegetables and some fruit (low carbs) and a little bit of fat for 800ish calories every day, then you will be doing what you need to do and you don’t really need to worry too much about the actual amount of fat. As the book says, fat is not the enemy! -
I am on thyroid. We did a thyroid test at the end of the 7th week. It had gone from high normal to lowest normal. Something predicted by my doc. He told me that calorie restriction can cause the thyroid to decrease (metabolism to decrease). So, at the end of the 8 weeks, I’ll go to regular Mediterranean for 5 days and 2 days of 800 calories. That will start this Sunday.
I think diet is such an individual thing. It just so happens that if i followed as close as possible to what Dr. Mosley suggested, I did fine.
I’m not sure how the doc is going to handle the lowered thyroid. I see him next week. My guess is wait and see if the introduction of calories after a while corrects it. I understand that it takes about 2 months for a new thyroid test to be accurate. So, i’m going to guess we’ll wait for a second test and then decide whether to increase my dosage.
Hope this helps. Good luck, you sound like you’ve got a good start! Congratulations!

Its very doable Susan, even pleasant!

You’ve certainly planned a full week of life changing life changes Loukc! I love that feeling of making a new you! When you take control of one area of your life you often feel better about other areas too. So I think your bsd journey is going to have a really positive impact on your emotional well being too. All the best. Keep us updated.

Hi everyone, do you have an update on your progress, as I’ve been on the shakes for just over 2 weeks and lost 13lb and going to start this diet tomorrow, and I’ve had an underactive thyroid all my life, and my weight has always been up and down so I would like something that I can stick to, thanks x

Hi louche.
Welcome to BSD and good luck .
Hope you share your successes .

Hi Tracy. We’re all in this together, at the start of something new, so need to help each other along. Lots of seem to have similar stories, similar journeys to where we are. Together we can move forward to a better future health wise. Look forward to seeing your progress. Lynne

No problem. I learned about it the hard way over many years at different slimming clubs! Glad to hear you’re feeling really well, and looking forward to hearing about your progress.

So yesterday I read the book and today I started the diet. Tomorrow I have a gym induction and Friday I have docs appointment to discuss meds (coming off anti-depressants) and other stuff.
It was shopping day so I have written up a rough week menu and went shopping. I now have in my fridge things I’ve never even eaten before, like asparagus and spinach leaves. My fridge is packed to the brim. I also, and this was so hard to do, threw out all pasta and other nasty stuff that’s no good for me.
I’ve started a food diary and feel very positive and proud of me.
I shall keep you all informed as to how I get on.
Thanks so much for this site and the book.

I am now 19 days in and am 6 and a half pounds lighter (10 pounds lighter than in January). I am very pleased with my progress (I only compare myself to myself, I find comparing with others is futile as we all live differently). I am back to my pre-holiday weight, which is great but my holiday was last September π
-
Wow everyone some stunning results there. I am only on day 2. Thanks so much for sharing your results, it is truly inspirational.

Thanks Hashimoto. Seen two articles today, one on 800 cal liquid diet reversing diabetes, the other about new drug (or drug combo) to lower HbA1c in type 2s!
I agree wholeheartedly. It’s not just the financial impact on the NHS, important as that is, but the impact on quality of life for so many. I’ve often read on another forum about diabetics wanting to ‘die with both their feet on and their eyes working’.
My diabetes nurse was telling me she has some patients who want to control their condition, but others either just don’t understand, or are happy to follow the party line – eating carbs and taking increased amounts of medication.
For my son, a wake-up call was the threat of insulin. He’s lost weight and cut down on alcohol but still eats carbs. We’ve had some ‘interesting’ conversations!
Me – I came to realise some years ago that lots of medications don’t agree with me. It’s always been trial and error. One group of meds that do work for me, docs won’t prescribe because they say there are newer drugs that work better. Trouble is, they don’t work for me – horrendous side effects. So I decided that ‘I’m my own lab rat’. I’ll do the research on myself, recording my findings so I can show the ‘experts’ what is happening.
BTW – Italian hotel breakfast ok for said friend, evening meal ok – she avoided pizza and pasta, but lunch! Almost impossible. Back here, In Asda you can make a DIY pizza – but even they gave her funny looks when she said no cheese! π³
-
Thanks Bre123. Hope you enjoy your holiday too. I’m planning to stay on low-carb Med style next week. Checked out airport eateries so I’ve a good idea what I’ll be eating on Monday before I fly out. Should get lots of walking done, both sightseeing and finding something I can eat! Apparently my hotel is about 20-30 minutes from tourist sites so that should help. Never been to Prague before so no idea whatI’ll find – just exploring π
-
Thanks, Captainlynne. It’s good to know that this is a common experience, albeit a frustrating one. I feel really well, so I’ll definitely stick with it.
-
Hi. Think we’ve all experienced that at some point, it seems our bodies need to get accustomed to the weight loss before letting more weight go and, yes periods can make a difference. But stick with the plan and you’ll see the weight will move again.
-
I too thought the calorie count seemed very low for 2 tablespoons of almond butter so checked it in MFP. I was really upset to discover 2 weeks in, that every time I had had this delicious snack (and I’d had it a few times) I was in fact consuming 300 calories more than I had been led to believe by the very book I was placing all my trust in for eight weeks. It makes me wonder how many of the other recipes have the wrong calorie counts?
It would be very useful to have an index of the calorie count of the common foods used in these recipes which would make it easier to add, omit or swap ingredients.
-
It does appear to have totally abated. They lasted about 2/3 days. Now one week in (and 17lbs down) and not getting any headaches at all π
-
That had me laughing. – pizza with no cheese in Italy. He he he π
-
Brilliant results captainlynne. Your fasting blood tests are fantastic. I will be joining you on 8 weeks and over on 9th of March. I can’t believe the 8 weeks are going so fast. Yes I totally agree – we need as many people as possible sharing their stories to prove to medics the advice for diabetics has to change.. Even looking at it from a financial point of view it could save the NHS millions ! It will save a lot of people from a miserable existence.

Hi all. Had a very successful first week, lost 8 pounds, but have now plateau-ed (sp). I am not doing anything different, but even the ounces showing on my scales are staying the same! Any suggestions for a kick start? I am not diabetic, but have all the qualifications! Do periods make a periodic difference to weight loss? Don’t want to look for excuses, just answers. Thanks.
-
That’s great. I’m going to have a couple of weeks off the 800 after 18 March as I’m on holiday but still sticking to the med style diet and then I’m going to go back on it as I still have over 2 st to loose.
Enjoy your holiday. -
Hi Wide_Widow
welcome to a whole new lifestyle.
Before long you’ll be as amazed as the rest of us were at the rate that the weight comes off and the sugar levels decrease.
Do the 8 weeks, you’re going to surprise yourself. -
Hi
it could be that you are not putting enough fat in your diet.
I f we want the body to switch to burning fat instead of carbs, we need to give it some fuel to burn.
Others will be along soon with their opinions, I’m sure we can sort it out.
