I am really interested in the fasting, I am due a stall any time now as I have been on this 2 and a bit weeks now. Need to keep focused, and find some new recipes. I have bought some chicken bones today so will make some soup for work lunches.

We like to dance around the kitchen to either ballroom music or cheesy 80s and 90s classics. So much fun.

I am surprised and pleased with my waist measurement decreasing, I havent noticed it in my clothes. I have now taken more measurements so I can chart my progress. I havent eaten anything yet and feel fine. I think 2 decent meals is the best strategy for me and now my hunger has switched off its ok. Have a great weekend everyone. I am going to attempt a run later

Had a good day today. Came in approx 800kcals probably a bit under and bang on 20g carbs. I was at the hairdressers this morning so missed lunch. I had a tsp of mackerel pate. Then went for a run whilst the kids cycled, I struggled with the run. Then oldest daughter decided to cycle off on her own cue much shouting and running after her, so in total I ran for about 25mins which is the longest yet.
So then I had loads of lovely cals for my dinner. We had lean hamburgers, served with cheese in lettuce wraps. Then I had half a lidl high protein roll with marmite. First time I feel full in weeks. I think 1 meal and 1 small snack a day is the way to go. Its evenings I struggle with, during the day I can ignore it the empty feeling as I don’t get hungry as such. Still need to work on drinking more water. Had my hair cut so thats got to be worth a few lbs 😂

Hi blessedenough, welldone for your good day. You made me laugh thinking of running after your daughter, although I guess it wasn’t funny at the time. It did make me think about my running that I could do a lot more if I had that sort of incentive so why don’t I do it anyway! So I’ll try this morning. Having said that it’s so cold here I think I’ll have all the incentive that I need.

My good news was that I didn’t put back any of the weight that I lost on the 48 hour fast.

Victoria, good news on not putting any of your 4lbs back on. I think I will def give fasting a try next week. I once fasted for 72hrs and felt ok. I cant remember how much weight I lost but I did put half of it back on, grr. I am keen to see if it helps keep loose skin at bay. I am not quite 40 yet but had 2 massive babies due to gestational diabetes and have yo yo-ed for years. It was freezing on my run yesterday, I had gloves, a hat and gillet on. Swimming with the kids today so I will attempt some hiit lengths, I tried the other day and could barely swim back down the pool, as I couldnt catch my breath.
My daughter and I had words, it was a safe car free cycle path and I knew she would stop eventually but that could have been the next town over. She was very proud of herself for cycling so far and I did get an extra run in😉.
Today will be a challenge, I am making yummy roast pork with a smidge of gravy and green veg- the challenge will be avoiding the crackling and not eating to big a portion. Have a good sunday everyone

I am back from my holiday and my first weigh in and effectively my starting weigh in shows after a week away from my scales, eating and drinking in a relatively unrestrained manner in lovely Cornwall and getting lots and lots of steps in I am down, if only 0.2 of a pound, from the day I left, after consistent readings for that whole week before. I think this could be my new (glycogen full) set weight, actually achieved. I know from experience that a week with some fasting and lower carb designed to deplete the glycogen will put me 9 pounds lighter so my new BSD set weight is actually 6 pounds above my old low carb target, at 11 stone 3 (ish) to directly compare with when I was following BSD strictly all of the time. Today’s weigh in is a stone up from my target. That my weight is this stable despite drinking every day, eating some things that were previously not permitted in my diet (in moderation of course) and not having access to my scales feels like a major victory, but of course I need to keep challenging myself.

So to this challenge. I want to keep on trying to tighten my skin, although I have no actual issues with loose skin it is still looser than it should be after decades of abuse, so will keep up attempts to stimulate autophagy through either intermittent fasting (16:8 and 5:2) or fasting mimicking days in this challenge and will commit to one full week (7 days) of water only fasting during this challenge, probably during the last week. That I may lose some fat as well as glycogen is okay as my stores are not too low at the moment. I will have a boditrax ‘checkup’ at a year after my last one to see what has changed and what I may need to tweak in my life, but I really feel that I am over the hard bit with a stable weight I am happy with. I will also belatedly book in with the doctor for a NHS health check, something I should have done sooner, but keep forgetting about as I feel so well.

Yesterday was hungry, so had breakfast as well as lunch and dinner, meant I only fasted 12 hrs overnight. Slightly up on scales this morning, back to my ever-present 58.5kg (well, it used to be 58.8 so there’s some progress!) that’s obviously where my body likes to be. But my tummy skin is less foldy, and it’s slightly more uncomfortable sitting on floor so I assume the fat has gone down a bit even if the weight hasn’t.

Am noticing that this morning I am thinking about eating but it’s about ‘doing something’ not hunger, so am gently asking self if I really want it and am finding the answers no. So far anyway. Am a bit bored of black coffee, though, would like to find something else I liked of same carb value.

I tried to do some swimming hiit lengths, but the pool was busy. Just had slow roast pork, kale, brussel sprouts, broccoli and carrot. Yum yum. I havent counted my cals or carbs but I think I am on target. Still need to drink more water.

I’m feeling chipper this morning after a very tricky weekend- haven’t eaten a meal at home since Wednesday but have done my best to make good choices and am still under 63kg. Not bad under the circumstances! Last night I was home but since I had a really satisfying lunch (crispy salmon with lobster sauce and greens, to die for) I decided to have just a glass of kefir for dinner. It was surprisingly filling. Hoping for a good result tomorrow.

Hello everyone, I have decided to join in with the March challenge albeit late! . My weight has been slowly creeping up over the last few weeks and I want to feel back in control . I am above my goal weight by about 3lbs at the moment so feel I need to go back to basics. I’ve been food shopping today and am planning my food for the next few days. One thing I need to get back in control, is my hunger. I’ve been feeling really hungry since having a dose of flu two weeks ago. I’ve been eating too many nuts and have also been craving cheese and crackers!! It’s easy to slip back into bad habits gradually! I reached my goal back in November but recently have not been as strict with my portions and therefore this is what I am going to look at during the March challenge and try to get back to the BSD mindset. I’ll post my weight on Tuesday and take it from there. I was too scared to get on the scales this morning. I ate a cheese and onion toastie in a cafe yesterday, it tasted lovely but I felt bad afterwards! I’ve re-read but book this afternoon and am ready once more for the discipline of BSD.

I am at the danger stage this always happens a few weeks in and a few pounds down. I just had a lidl high protein roll and cheese, damn still under 50g carbs but 1200 cals. Grr I annoy myself

Good afternoon everyone, I’ve missed a few days here, just through general busyness, also through wanting to pick up a book instead of a device. I’m missing my reading, am going to need to fashion a way of reading AND going online. Trouble is, the conversations on these threads are so interesting I find hours can pass very quickly😌

I’ve wandered a bit from my “good place” of the previous challenge. Sadly, it still happens too easily. Lately it’s during socialising, and it has been a very social summer. Not so much “secret eating”, pleased about that. Will be an “up” tomorrow, though, I’m thinking.
Apologies for not responding individually to previous posters, just a few too many to catch up on now but wishing everyone well for a satisfactory weigh-in Tuesday. 👍

mariet- well done on good choices, hoping with you that tomorrow’s result is all a good one.

Listening to radio 4 woman’s hour talking about obesity and teenagers. Interesting. Discussing WeightWatchers and being critical of calorie counting, which is a start.

I’m new to this, I’m at 216lbs and would like to be 168lbs – so a long way to go. I’ve have spent the last week on 800cals and I’m finding it okay. I’m not hungry often, only around 2-4pm but I’m normally busy then.

Any advice on what I shouldn’t be eating. I eat a banana every day with milk and whizz it up in the machine for a milkshake. Is this ok?

Also avocados and eggs are these okay?

What is a definate no-no and what is a be careful of?

Lastly (so sorry for all the Q’s) I can’t drink water so I add Robinsons no added sugar lemon squash to it. Is this ok?

    Thanks!!!

hi. I’ve joined the forum today and currently weigh 117.7kgs & im 5ft 9″. I’m not really sure what is a realistic target to set myself in 22days as ive never tried this diet and this is day 1…. so going to say by 20th March i would have liked to have lost at least 4kgs. From all your experiences do you think that sounds like a realistic target ?

    Hi big mama,
From reading these forums it is very hard to assess realistic targets when you start, some whoosh then stop, others loose slow but steady etc. I found it easier to focus on targets based around what I was eating cals and carbs wise for a couple of weeks until I knew how my body reacted.

    Hi Timeforachange.

The success of this way of eating(WoE) is in counting the carbs, not just the calories. Many of us use one of the apps on our mobile phones which allow us to enter what we eat and which calculates the number of grams of carbs, protein, calories etc. This would help you answer all your questions on what you can and can not eat. Some people find they can loose weight sticking to around 50grams of carbs a day, but others have found that they need to keep it down to 20g a day to be successful.

Hi Timeforachange, I only lose weight when I keep my carbs really low. I couldn’t eat a banana and milk everyday, it sets off the carb monster. The lower carb I go the easier it is. Also drinking lots of water really helps, I aim for 2litre a day, nice and cold is best with a reusable straw and a pretty glass. I wouldnt drink sugar free squash as its full of chemicals.
Bigmama, I have lost 10lbs in 16 days but its mostly water weight and will slow down from here on. Weight loss isnt linear. Good luck newcomers, keep us updated

Hi Jackie. Had a REALLY bad day yesterday – stuffing all the carbs I could get in my mouth and could have kicked myself so hard . Why? Because I have lost five stone 3 pounds and managed to come off my diabetic medication, so I need to get back on it and this challenge will really help. May need to start off with 900 cal a day because yesterday wasn’t my first day off the diet. Just a bit concerned about get back on the scales again now, but will post my weight after the challenge has ended. Good luck everyone.

Welcome to the newcomers. You’ve already received some good advice here, so I’ll just add for TIMEFORACHANGE: if it’s just that you don’t like the taste of water, I’d suggest you persevere with it for a while. You may be surprised at how your tastes will change, and how quickly. Having enough water is probably top of the list for must haves. If you must have added flavor try adding a generous slice of lemon or lime and possibly a sprig of mint &/or a slice of cucumber. For my evening drink I have sparkling mineral water with ice and lime. I know… exciting! But I wouldn’t change it now, I enjoy it so much. For my daytime drinks I have filtered tap water and several herbal or green teas and, not being much of a coffee drinker, I just have 1 cup of lunch time coffee to keep OH company.

See everyone tomorrow for Tuesday weigh-in. Nighty-night now 😴 xx

I just logged in (it’s been nearly a week) and the front screen asked whether I wanted to tick ‘Remember Me’. How apt…

However, despite not logging in, I’ve still been reading all the posts from everyone. Looks like this challenge will be even busier than the last one.

I’ve failed to log in MFP as planned most days. When I have, I’ve exceeded the calories count but kept carbs below 20g. I’m not sure what tomorrow’s weigh-in will bring – I’m hoping a little loss but probably not the 3.5lbs I was hoping for.

I have lots of excuses – I’m stressed about a number of personal things, I’m overworked, my OH is away during the week and I’m missing him like crazy and then when he was back this weekend, I was busy getting everything sorted for him being away this week (and me joining him Wed night). However – these are but excuses. Whilst I have done well on the kinds of food I’m eating, I haven’t been good at not snacking (even though the snacks have been low carb). Particularly cheese. Plus my goal to cut out Red Bull and zero sugar chemical fests like 7-up Free has failed entirely.

What’s annoying is I know I could do soooo much better. Whilst I keep telling myself that it’s better to be doing something than nothing, I also know that in part this is a cop-out because I am capable of much more.

Oh well – fingers crossed I show some loss tomorrow and that I can use that as a springboard to be stricter next week.

Hope everyone is ok and battling on with the temptation etc. Well done for those posting recent loss too.

Quick NSV and anti-NSV (does that have a better term?)
NSV – I didn’t recognise myself in the mirror on Thurs – my face has changed dramatically and I now look like the rest of my (much smaller) family.
Anti-NSV – I’m getting a bad back. I think it’s my mattress and I think the reduced fat cushioning is making me realise how much it needs to be replaced. Which is a financial and logistical no-no at the moment. I’m hoping that turning it over etc will mean it can last a few more months.

They’ve already given me the eye drops and everything is blurry so I have no idea If what I’m typing is correct. Just vague shapes on a screen – I hope I’m making sense.

It’s actually very good for refocusing my efforts given that I I feel half blind and in no way want that to become a permanent situation.

    Hi all,

I’ve had such an interesting first week, including 60 hour fast in an attempt to give my slowing/stalling system a jolt and it seems to have done the trick, albeit with some mad fluctuations. Here’s my weigh in day results –

    Challenge start weight 63.7
    Week 1 – 61.7 that’s a whopping 2kg and I am totally thrilled! 🎉🎉🎉🌟🌟🌟🌟

Like you Mariet (excellent result for the week by the way) the scales initially read lower, 61.5, I went to get my phone to take a photo and they read 61.7. Hopped on and off a couple of times to no avail 🤪, not to worry, with 1 week left of my Round 2 and my last week of focussing on weight loss, I am ecstatic with 2kg.

For interest this is what my weight did during the week 63.7 (last meal dinner the previous night) 63.7 (last weigh in day), 61.8 (eat again this day from lunch time), 62.3, 61.2, 62.1, 62.1, 61.7, 61.7. Hopefully it has now settled into it’s usual pattern.

Shanshu, lovely to hear from you again. I still imagine toxic yellow fisceral fat when tempted by nasty foods.

Hello to everyone on this very active board (isn’t it great?)

Weigh-in this morning. As I surmised yesterday, it’s up. Over the course of my life, I’m 73, there have been so many times when I’ve been pleased and thrilled with some weight loss and I immediately relax my focus and, oh dear, up it goes. Do I learn? Apparently not. I’m accounting for most of it with heavy socialising (which I’d successfully negotiated in the previous couple of weeks, not so well this week) but I’m feeling bloated. Plenty of action in the water in/water out department but not otherwise. So, I’ve been avoiding even writing this down … started this challenge at 59.7kg – end of week 1 = 61kg i.e. gained 1.3kg in 1 week. That is more than my usual pattern. Back to basics today.

We’ll done Mariet and Flick for your results. Your fast sounds amazing Flick, along with all the other fasts reported. Why am I frightened of doing one, I wonder?
Looking forward to all the week 1 reports …..

Morning all. 58.5kg, so down a massive (drum roll please) 300g from last week (bows modestly).

Well, what’s to be done?for the first time since last August I feel I am fighting on rather than it being basically a breeze. I feel like I am trying to force my body’s natural inclination to be 58.8kg. Perhaps I should stop using weighing as a marker of success and concentrate on NSVs.

Not despondent, I am a healthy weight and have normal blood sugar. Putting my thinking cap on, doing some more reading and then re-grouping.

Planning a fast later this week, so will post on that thread for a bit.

Keep strong those who are in full loss mode, looking forward to hearing your successes.

Really pleased as the closer I have got to goal, the losses have been very slow. There is a small chance that I will hit goal during this challenge (was sure it would be the next one).

Adding my congrats to Mariet and Flick on your results, Mariet – I think I did a little drool at the thought of your baked trout – yumsk!
ClarinetCathy – glad to see you are back on it, hoping for an encouraging result for you today 😀
Shanshu – Good to hear from you, glad you are managing to keep going even though things are challenging for you at the moment. Hoping you can find a solution for your uncomfortable nights.

Hi Mummada, bigmamma99 and timeforachange – ✋ 👍 welcome, this really is a great place to ask your questions and try things out. The wonderful thing about the 4 week challenges is that it tackles loss in manageable chunks. You try something, learn from it and make changes, so what you might do in one challenge you might tweak in the next.

I am thinking about tackling my exercise routine – have a gym membership that I haven’t been using so something clearly isn’t working. I have been toying with the idea of taking up ballet. Have never done anything like it in my life but I know that I enjoy exercise when it is wrapped up in learning a new skill particularly one that isn’t ‘naturally’ obvious as a good fit. Popped down to the dance studio thingy yesterday to ask all of my noddy questions, mostly needing reassurance that ‘yes, it is for total beginners’. This week is crazy central but next week I think I will try a class.

I can’t tell you how my life has changed since beginning this WoE. For many years, I have had couple of chronic headaches. A migraine, 2-3 times a week, and then a chronic daily headache which is just always there. When I switched to BSD, the migraines reduced dramatically, down to appx 1 every 2 weeks and now haven’t had one in over 5 weeks. This cleared the way and gave me the capacity to focus on the daily headache. Have been going to an osteopath who has just worked magic. Not totally pain free yet but it feels as good as. Now have a great daily stretching routine and have been planning how to continue to improve my core and posture – hence the ballet. My kids think it is totally hilarious.

Anyway, when I began the BSD I knew none of this, it has been just great to see the domino effect of change.
Have a good day all, x

Hi all, I like that phrase, relaxed my focus, that exactly what I have been doing this last few days. My self sabotage mechanism is kicking in. The diet was easy, I had some lovely set meal plans that I enjoyed and knew the carbs/cals of, I was still exercising and just starting to get a glimpse of my cheek bones.
Then I started to relax my focus, I stopped counting every crumb and my biggest downfall is lidl high protein rolls – they are just too easy whilst lovely and very bread like they are still. 230 cals and 9g carbs.
I was on the fasting thread, and think that in a few days when I get myself back in hand I will have a go. Well done flick on your fasting success.
So I intend to get back to basics, more water, no more milk in coffee – I measured a splash it was about 60mls so 2.5g carbs, I drink a lot of coffee! Back to 2 meals a day- there just aren’t enough cals to spread over 3, more swimming and less feeling sorry for myself. NO MORE PROTEIN ROLLS. then I might try a bit of fasting at the end if this week.

Wow this is a busy thread and so much to catch up on after a couple of days. Welcome all newbies. Best of luck on your journey. I hope you find the forum helpful. It’s been a real support for me.
Congratulations to all the losers. Some great losses reported today. And for the fasters I am in awe. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
My weekly weigh in is down 2lbs this week. Started at 10st 10lbs last week and 10st 8lbs today. I’m a bit disappointed as the weight loss has slowed down a lot but I have had a couple of days where the calorie intake has been 1000 rather than 800. Still I think my body has got used to the reduced calories.
I’ve not been good at exercising so maybe I need to increase my activity level to try and keep the weight loss up.
Maybe a better week next week.
    Good luck everyone 😀

    Oops!
I’ve just noticed I listed my weight as 10stone! It’s actually 15!!! Definitely a wishful thought there 😱

Down 1.3kg this week. – The scales were difficult to read this morning, with a 1.1 kg range between readings but eventually settled at a weight in the middle. With NS wins of a tightening up of the loose skin which was was forming on my arms and I think I start to see some reduction in the spare tyre but that may be wishful thinking.
Tried on some jeans I had which are one dress size smaller than my starting dress size and they now (after over 4.5 stone loss) zip up, but I wouldn’t want to try to sit down in them. So hopefully my body is starting to think about getting rid of my personal camel hump style belly.

6.8kg to go to my initial target.

    Morning all
Feeling quite bloated at the moment – I reckon once that passes there might be a bit of a jump down if you (unfortunately) know what I mean!

Lots of exciting numbers being posted – some really big numbers in the mix there well done. For those who haven’t had the best week, there’s always next week 🙂

    So for me…
    Challenge Starting weight = 211.8lb
    End of Wk 1 = 209.6lb (-2.2lbs)
    Challenge target = 12lbs ( a further 9.8lbs)

So not the 3.5lbs I was hoping for but then at least I know why. It’s because I’m not being as disciplined as I know I can be. I think that I should go back to recording my daily amounts on my Shanshu Check-in thread as this might inspire me to keep within the barriers. That being said it’s going to be hard Wed evening onwards as I’m going to the coast where my OH is working and staying in an airbnb where we can’t cook our own food. So it’s going to be eating out as cheaply as possible which is not going to be healthy at all.

However, on a massive plus for me – I am now 14 stone something (for at least 3 days but only just under that magic number) as opposed to 15 something. I got this low last year but if I meet my challenge loss then I will hit a BSD low so I really want to try to make it.

Work is busy so I shall be reading all your posts via email and possibly not replying unless I can sneak back on but I hope everyone is ok and I am sending hugs and support to you all.

    Hi bigmumma and all,

I weighed this morning and I’m at 214.3 so I am using that as my official weight to start from.

I ate just under 700 Kcals yesterday and about 31 carbs. So a could start. I had no idea there were so many carbs in onions and yellow peppers!

    Well done all x

so I take it that Tuesday is the weekly weighin day then 😁. I will stick to yesterday’s weight at 117.7kgs as i won’t be weighing again until Thursday as i get too obsessed with the scales. managed to stick to 808 calories yesterday and 49g carbs so pretty happy and last ate at about 7:30pm…. I am going to try to not eat anything till lunchtime again as i think 2 meals work better for me and a small lunch means i have more left for the evening for when i get the munchies and at my danger time !… last night I ate cucumber, cheese & guacamole as my last snack to use up my calories…. it was yummy ! Day 2 here i come 😁

Some really excellent results here, congratulations.
Mokovex, I was so moved to read your story today. The changes you’ve made and the results are wonderful, especially the reduction in migraines and other headaches. What a relief for you👏👏
The mention of headaches reminds me to let the newer BSDers know that some people experience “carb flu”, sometimes a few days or a couple of weeks into the plan. Headaches, fevery feelings …. keep going, wait it out, its the body’s way of letting you know it’s adjusting to life without all the starchy stuff.
Shanshu, thinking about your sleeping discomfort since losing your “personal padding”, if the new mattress is not on the horizon , maybe a mattress topper could be an answer. Just a random thought.. also, well done on seeing the 14s and enjoy your time away with your OH (maybe lots of salads?)

So, onwards into week 2. As usual, MFODAAT.

    So, weigh in day today.
I’ve yo-yo’d up and down all week losing and regaining a pound, and ended up today where I started last week – 11st 13lbs.
But, since starting 3 weeks ago, an inch off around my bum and an inch off around my tummy – so very pleased with that.
Light snow flurries here near Abergavenny, and very cold – my thoughts keep turning to stew and dumplings. Ho Hum.
    Keep warm all.

    Hello fellow Challenger’s
Well done to those who have done well this week and hugs to those who have struggled along with me.

Bad week (on top of a few weeks over eating) > eating carbs, particularly bread > feeling terrible with frequent visits to the loo (!) > eating and drinking more > so now I weigh 16lbs more than I did before Christmas.
I am cross with myself, a little ashamed and alarmed at the rapid weight gain – carbs, particularly wheat based obviously don’t agree with me and any more than the odd glass of red wine doesn’t help either, though the odd G and T dosnt seem to effect weight loss, thank goodness!
My weekly reports seem so boring and repetitive and I am fighting to keep going. But I WILL.
Back to the old mantra of keeping on keeping on O D A A T.
    X B

You’re still here Busybee, that’s the good bit. Now pick one thing to change this week …. you can’t do scattergun at this point, too hard, just one thing to focus on. Add to it when you feel strong enough. Thinking of you xx
