Oh blimey yeah, loads of people in my school got expelled for Tangoing people. Quite a few kids got perforated eardrums. Stupid advert really!

My school was a bit like that. I was one of the good kids and even I caused an 80 foot mushroom cloud by blowing up a telly in the incinerator. Hockey was banned because people used to just beat 7 shades of s*** out of each other with the clubs, and in my first rugby lesson aged 11, I was congratulated by the PE teacher when I successfully spear tackled some poor kid from my class (I did judo at the time and knew how to lift and smash people, lol).

Yowzer – from Google… Turnips contain fewer calories per serving than potatoes — 18 calories per cup of cubed turnip, compared with 59 for russet potatoes. Most of the calories from both foods come from carbohydrates. Each cup of turnip contains 4.2 grams of total carbohydrates, while an equivalent serving of potatoes contains 13.5 grams.

This is one of the things hubby and I argue about lol. He calls it carrot and turnip mash, but I use swede. He says same thing, but they’re not. Swede is the bigger one of the two, usually brown and orangey outside, and the flesh inside is orange. Turnips are smaller and the flesh is white. Outside is white and purpley. But also certain parts of the UK call them different things too, so it makes it even more confusing. From Google… However, in some dialects of British English the two vegetables have overlapping or reversed names. In the north of England and Scotland, the larger, yellow rutabagas are called neeps or turnips from folk etymology, while the smaller white turnips are called swedes.

Yeah it is a proper game.

Apart from rucks, scrums and lineouts, and the fact every position is the same size.

I will concede that the skill level is generally higher amongst the ground shaggers as compared to the more gentlemanly pursuit of Union.

Perv is right, especially when I humiliated myself in front of his Mrs on his merchandise stall at his testimonial. By perving over him. And making inappropriate comments about what I would do to him. Didn’t know she was his girlfriend. My bad.

I’m lost in a rugby haze now. Don’t bother explaining it to me – I’m just there to see big men in small shorts! Used to watch Northampton Saints in the days when the place I worked had a corporate box (i.e. free beer).

I may had to try turnip surprise Luvky – I fear it may be met with the same howls of disappointment as cauliflower mash cottage pie however (my boy is telling anyone who will listen how terrible that was).

There were three women on the stall, one had her back to me, two were older, didn’t pay much heed to the one not talking to me. They had packages for sale, keyring, pen and mug, all including Stu in a state of undress. One of the ladies says ‘Look, bargain. Wouldn’t you like to have a brew with Stu?’…

Would I! A brew? I’d have more than a brew with him I tell YOU ladies… etc. I eventually stop dead and think to ask ‘Oh God, none of you are married to him are you?’ And then this very thin, very pretty girl turns around and they say, yes. Her.

    Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiist! On a bike!

I couldn’t apologise enough. ‘It’s ok’ she said. Probably used to it but still!! I was cringing to the very core of my being. What a bloody tool.

Well, I can’t vouch for it as a mash yet, remember. I’m doing fries tonight, and the wedges were spot on.

As we walked away from the stall everyone else burst out laughing. Wouldn’t have been so bad if the week before, I hadn’t made another faux pas, one of our players, Scott who has recently left, only a young lad, and the girls had a bit of a thing for him, called him Scottie the Hottie. As he scored a cracking try, I turned to them and said very loudly ‘Well! Scottie is not just a hottie, he can score tries too.’ My daughter paled, her best friend took about five minutes to tell me, in fits indiscreet laughter, that his father and his girlfriend were sat behind us. Directly behind us. And as I’m not what you’d call quiet at times… yep.

    No, no nonononononono. Lol.

The big one IS a Swede. The little ones are turnips. But in certain parts of Scotland and England, they are called the opposite. My husband (Lancashire) calls the little ones swedes. And the big ones turnips. And to confuse matters even more, in Wales we call it rwdan. But that’s another story… 🙂

I’m cutting up the little ones 🙂 Jeeez, the only way I cook a swede is in the microwave, Yowzer! Life’s too short and I haven’t enough fingers to spare to cut one of those up. Nuke it until it starts ‘singing’, and scoop all the cooked flesh out! Lovely, and hassle free 🙂

Ahhhhhhh have you edited something. I’m confused now. LOL. STOP!

    Yes that’s right – officially 🙂

But you are also right in a regional way 🙂

I was sobbing in the corner of my kitchen already, but then husband brought home a honking bike horn for youngest. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Yes, I won’t cook it any other way now, saw it on a Facebook page last year (when I used Facebook!) and it works, and dare I say it, tastes nicer? Tastes like swede, sometimes it can be so bland when it’s boiled. Mash it in with your ready cooked carrots when they’re done. Voila!

Hubby is from Wigan 🙂 I spent 6 years in Manchester from 16 – 22 as well.

No, in the eldest’s bedroom… *sigh* He does have practice pads on them so that’s something.

Turnip fries were nice! Crispy fries? No, not really. Imho the only way you can get really crispy proper chips is if you deep fry them. These were tasty though, reminiscent of when I make homemade sweet potato fries in the oven, that sort of taste. But yeah, I’d make them again, definitely!

I haven’t tried that Jan, but it sounds nice! Be a good way to liven up a Sunday dinner now that it’s roastie and yorkie-less! Unless the chickpea batter yorkie’s work, that is!

Just had my tea, a homemade (legal) cupcake and some Oppo, cals coming in at 749 for the day, carbs at 30 but I don’t know how many carbs were in the cupcake. Hopefully under 20! Cup of coffee later and that’s me for the day. Are you walking tonight Janey???

A legal cupcake is one that has been made with BSD allowed ingredients 🙂 So mine had almond flour, coconut sugar, nuts etc. You’d be amazed what you can actually make out of other flours. Some things are passable, others are lovely.

Oh I did! I’ve been for a one hour walk. I am now, once again, in the lead. Where I should be. Bwahahahahahaha. No seriously, I just wanted to get my 10,000 steps, want to make a concerted effort now to do BSD properly as recommended in the book. Think I might have hit 10,000 three times in the first 7 weeks, and the recommended is that daily. Plus I haven’t done the exercise. I haven’t counted the carbs until yesterday. So, this next stint now, I want to up my game. Let us know if you get one Jan.

Almond seems to be the most ‘workable’ for cakes. But it’s also very pricey, so you can’t afford mishaps really. Chickpea flour is versatile for savouries, I’ve even made pastry with it. And of course, the chickpea wraps, which are an acceptable bread.
