Hi Jules the Lindt 99% didn’t come out too well … ‘ powdery and bitter’ , but we all have different tastes. Not tried the Waitrose but I will and will certainly try and find the Willies pure 100% Cacoa if I can find it somewhere other than Ocado.

BTW ‘white chalk stripe’ sounds really good !! Just go for it!!!

Have just read the article online. Some of them are really expensive. I did get husband some hotel Chocolat 70% for Christmas and he said they were really nice.

Lindt 90% still on offer at Tesco for £3 for 2 bars so I got a couple more bars for my chocolate cupboard today. The 99% doesn’t look very appetising from the reviews.

    Hi Angie baby,
    Glad I make you smile.
Get ready for the big start on Sunday.
Plan your meals, plan your exercise.but most importantly plan your happiness.
    What treat can you have?
    A movie,
    A new blouse
    A new perfume
    A new lipstick
A new activity, maybe an art gallery, because you have never stepped inside. Go to an art gallery or museum, find something nice to look at and sit down and enjoy it for say, ten minutes. Absorb, study it, enjoy the moment.
Then go and get a coffee and look intellectual because you are now an art critic. You have studied a piece of art.
Doesn’t matter you don’t understand it, you have experienced it.
    Enjoy the movement.

    Love Lucia

70% choc is lovely, I wasn’t ready for 90% I found it too bitter. so won’t be rushing for 99%…

I have signed up for a 1000 miles in 2017 challenge (http://www.livefortheoutdoors.com/walk1000miles/) – that is well under the 10k steps a day target, so with the dog very doable.

Last day of 2016 hasn’t started very well for me, the heat makes me feel quite ill and I woke this morning feeling very groggy and sweaty and tired. Cool shower helped a bit but still not great. Also my weight has jumped up again, from ice cream yesterday? I don’t know. Can’t get my head working.

I’ve tried 100% chocolate and thought it was nasty. I’m still on the 70% Lindt, and the “smooth” version at that.

Also joined the Facebook group – when I introduced myself, said I’d lost the weight and wanted a new challenge. Folk were asking how I’d done it so told them about the BSD. One person has sai they’ve ordered the books!😀 And so it grows!😀

In case I don’t get the opportunity later, I’d like to wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2017. May you all reach your BSD goals!

Good morning (or whatever time of day it is wherever you are 🙂 ) and happy New Year’s Eve to you all.

Day Four (yesterday) of this challenge has hopefully set me back on the right exercise track. I did a walk (albeit a fairly short one) and the HIIT on my rebounder along with a 10 minute pilates-with-resistance-band session from an old exercise DVD that I dusted off, I also spent some time on my rebounder which I keep next to my couch! Food wise I did a partial fast – I will continue the BSD with a 5:2 approach, 5 days around 1000cals and 2 at 500, I find sticking too 800 every day way too tough for me (snack-a-holic that I am).

Today’s exercise target is similar to yesterday but without the HIIT.

The 1000 mile challenge looks interesting, I’ll check it out later. I had a dog a while back and I worked out that over the course of his lifetime (14 yrs) I walked at least 10,000 miles with him!

Loving all the chocolate talk! A lovely relative, trying to be helpful, gave me some 70% lindt for Christmas, I found it WAY too sweet preferring 85% or higher now. Celebrating the small victories!

Happy New Year to everyone. Here’s to our healthiest, fittest year ever!

Happy New Year’s Eve everyone and a happy healthy 2017.

Over Christmas I have been totally on the BSD way of eating and tomorrow would have done 8 straight months without having a single mouthful of starchy or sugary carbs. This time last year I wouldn’t even have thought that it was possible to have done this for even a month.

Have allowed myself some treats over Christmas – mostly a generous serving of cream in my many coffees, more nuts than I would normally eat and much more stilton than normal. Not surprisingly the calories do mount up. Have got back down to between 1000 and 1200 calories a day (thank you Verano for starting this challenge).

As well as sorting out my health issues I have found another powerful motivator – the fact that I don’t have any of my larger clothes any more. I don’t know why I never thought of taking them to the charity shop when I lost weight before but I always packed them carefully away in case I might need them – and I always did. Now I know that there is absolutely nothing in the house that will fit me if I put on weight – that’s quite scary and does help to keep me on track.

Am now off to dig out Peapod’s recipe for courgettes soup which I want to make for lunch.

Even though am not back on it I have still been very careful and my weight was down again this morning, back to my original pre Christmas weight. Out shopping for things to take back to France and daughter said mum and dad you have paid for everything let me treat you to lunch at Miller and Carter, so we did, first time ever in 6 months I had a dessert of raspberry crème brulee and enjoyed every mouthful. Up side is we dont do New Year so it will be chicken casserole and a couple of glasses of champagne tonight and in bed by 11. Have a good NY everyone and best wishes.

I had a funny conversation with another lady at the party, we were joking but it’s funny because it’s true, you know?
I said I was going back on my diet tomorrow, Martha said why not wait until Monday because diets have to start on a Monday, so I said I’d better wait until Tuesday when Tim goes back to work so she said to start after the kids were back at school after the holidays because it’s too hard when they are at home… and on we went. DAY6 …. WEEK 1

    Good morning and Happy 2017

So day 6 already but, apart from possibly tonight for some, the festivities are over!!! As Natalie says there’s always an excuse not to start if you look hard enough! Well no more excuses everyone can be back on the bandwagon if they choose to be.

I think lots of us have had a much better December this year by continuing this way of eating even if it was rather loosely at times. So now into 2017. I’m sure most of us have some goals in our minds. We have the ‘plan’ we just have to put it into practice. Some need complete abstinence from carby foods and for others occasional ‘treats’ fit into their plans. Some of us have diabetes and some just want to lose weight for health reasons or just to look better. Whatever the motivation I think we all probably agree that BSD does bring lots of benefits to our well being.

So lets keep on keeping on and enjoy life with better health and smaller clothes!!!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Day 6 of 28, and I’m still not quite settled back into BSD exercise and eating routine! Yes, there is always an excuse to be found…. WHAT I’ve been eating is ok, it’s the extra portions I’m struggling to control (must try harder!). I have a Drs appointment on 17th Jan, so that has become a mini-goal. I’m exercising more but it still feels like a bit of a chore… I’d like to find the heart to be more active!

Plenty exercise in store today, despite the very rainy weather! Also, food wise, a ‘not quite full English’ brunch and later a turkey tea (I was away over Christmas so haven’t been inundated with turkey 🙂 ). Planning meals ahead is definitely the key for me. NO snacks (easily my downfall).

I hope everyone has a wonderful first day of 2017, setting the tone for an amazing year ahead. Happy New Year!

But have got a seriously physical challenge ahead of me in the next couple of months so need to get fitter physically and mentally and I know this plan will do both of those. Happy new year 😊

Just sitting relaxing with my Nespresso and thinking how different this is from last year and how lucky I was that a client lent me the BSD book.

If she hadn’t I don’t think I would have found it and would have been sitting here in despair over my health issues – just like last year. Scared of what further horrors this year would bring (actually more scared than last year thanks to the BBC Panorama programme on diabetes).

Diabetes in remission is wonderful beyond belief but size 10 (and size 8) clothes in my wardrobe run a really close second.

Have just added some items to my saved meals in fat secret – scrolling through them I was struck how lovely and varied and healthy the food is. Even though I am on maintenance I still need to keep a daily food log because I find it absolutely impossible to guess just how much I am eating – which is one of the reasons why I have always failed at maintenance before.

So we are all looking forward to a healthier 2017 – and it is great how we all have adapted the BSD to suit our particular circumstances.

Happy new year everyone, there are so many good news stories that I think everyone needs congratulations, whether it’s for sticking to it all through or the resolution to re start. I am a smidge lighter today than when I woke up on Christmas Day, so at my lightest this time round. 19lb to the ‘normal’ bmi target I have set. I got a Running watch for Christmas and it bleeps every hour and says ‘move’, although sometimes it does it when I have been chasing my two year old grandson so I think it gets a bit confused. More than 10000 steps every day this week so far and a real effort to be strict for the next few days because on the 5 th I am going to be away on a tiny ship with no gym and not much walking space but tons of food. It’s Norwegian though so there will be loads of fish which will help. Thanks again for setting this forum up and to everyone who shares.

    Hello everyone, welcome to 2017!

My Indian meal went almost to plan last night, but a quarter of a poppadom and half a chapati and a spoonful of rice snuck in. Two glasses of champagne at home and 1 quality street. It was naughty but I logged every mouthful and wasn’t too bad at 110g carbs total (much better than my ‘normal’ way of eating) and happy to say not gained this morning. Phew!

Back on track today – had a lovely brunch of stir fry sprouts, spring onions, chopped back pudding and ham with a fried egg on top. Delicious!
Cooking a leg of pork this evening with crackling. No roasties for me just veggies but I shall enjoy the crackling without guilt!
I can’t believe I’ve logged all this already on MFP plus a dessert of blueberries and double cream and it still only comes to 717 calories and 39g of carbs! I think it really helps just having the 2 meals.

I’m taking note of what others have said on another thread about increasing fat ratios and lowering protein. I have been trying to keep my protein high as I worry about losing muscle mass but I am going to change my macros to 25% protein, 25% carbs and 50% fat to see if that moves things along better.

Hope you all have a lovely relaxing New Year’s Day! xx

EILEEN27 Welcome to your new life 🙂 you are in for a treat. Everybody’s journey (oh no, I used the ‘J’ word) is different, but usually contains highs and lows. I have found it easy to stay away from carby/sugary things, giving them up cold-turkey with no problem at all; the shock for me was the er, minimalistic calorie intake. It took 10days or so to adjust, but when my body did finally get it, WOW, so much energy, I honestly feel 20 years younger (I’m 61).

Following Christmas calorie increase I’m in the process of easing back down and upping my exercise to shift the Christmas gains, and reach my final goal of 8st 12lb (which is only 5lbs away) by my Dr appt in just over 2weeks time!

Wishing you great success EILEEN, I hope you grow to love this way of life as many of us already have. Keep posting on the forum, and stick with it even if it gets tough, you won’t regret it !

SUSIEB, the penny just dropped for me regarding more fat rather than more protein – SO counter intuitive to those of us from the low-fat myth generation! I too will change my percentages.. woo hoo, more cream for me! (Or butter, ghee, coconut oil, olive oil, etc) 🙂

    Hi susieb
From the research I’ve been doing, the ideal amount of protein to consume without risking loss of muscle mass is 1-1.5g/kilo of IDEAL body weight, so at 5’6″, my ideal body weight is approximately 60kg, so I am for 60-90g max of protein per day.
I’m still doing my 3 hour walks most days and 2 days a week of yoga and I’m doing fine.
    Cheers

    So how’s this for a win…
Yesterday we had a friend that we haven’t seen for ages come over for a BBQ.
First, he brought with him a box of chocolates as a gift for me and guess what I did???
I asked if he wouldn’t mind taking them home with him as I said I no longer eat sugar! 12 months ago, I would have eaten the whole box in one go the second he walked out the door so miracles do happen with the BSD!!😀😀

2nd, he’s always been a big man, but the last time we saw him about 4 years ago, he had lost some weight and well on the way to looking much better.

Yesterday, he was the heaviest I have ever seen him at 130kg and he was telling us how his doctor put him in hospital a bit before Christmas to run tests on his heart as his blood pressure was 225/110 and he couldn’t stop panting and sweating from simply walking into the doctors office from the waiting room. He’s now in multiple medications.

I was able to not only tell him about the BSD but because I now only serve BSD friendly foods to any guests we have, actually show him how to eat well and explain how I’ve lost my 33kg.
He seemed very keen to listen and asked lots of questions, so here’s hoping we’ve converted yet another unhealthy person over to the enlightened side!
Any opportunity to get on my soapbox!
    Cheers
    Linda

DAY 7 of thus 28 day challenge!

LINDAA, that’s great news; I hope your friend will be inspired to take care of his health and weight issues. I too am finding an inner strength previously absent – politely declining croissants for breakfast on Christmas day (but fully enjoying the accompanying poached egg & smoked salmon with a knob of butter!). In a former life i would have just felt disappointed they were being served and eaten the pastry, leading to a complete abandonment of my determination.

Today I have lots of activity planned, so my exercise levels will be good. It’s another semi-fasting day (no food til lunch, and then 2 meals of 250 cals each).

LinD49, do you mind me asking how you usually fast 16 hrs? I have always LOVED breakfast, but since doing BSD I find I’m not usually craving food first thing in the mornings (a first for me!). I’d be concerned that if I skipped breakfast I’d get weak and dizzy by lunch. I’m curious 🙂

The last day of week 1 is here and I think that quite a few of us have eased back into BSD since the festivities. After tomorrow’s weigh in it should be full steam ahead again, hopefully!

Glad you’ve joined us Eileen27 I hope you enjoy BSD and find it as life changing as many of us have.

Greenjanet can I ask you what your serious physical challenge is? Not to worry if you don’t want to share.

There has been lots of ‘talk’ on the boards of the 1000 mile challenge which sounds like a great idea especially if you use the Worldwalkingmap app which sounds excellent. I’ve not looked at it yet but it sounds interesting. Although I can’t do the 1000 miles in 2017 I think I might set myself a smaller goal. Will have to get back on the treadmill if I can. Need to try that out again.

    Hi Verano.

My serious challenge, is a month ago we brought a couple of derelict ancient barns in Norfolk, and I am in the process of selling my business and my husband john and me will be living on the site and doing it up, he’s a builder and fit although 60 in Feb , I’m 59 and not very fit, and 5 stone still too heavy for my height, work will start in Feb, and I will move up there with him in April when my business is all sorted, and house packed up etc, so no pressure, but need to feel how I felt in September, when I stopped the plan, I felt physically and mentally strong, I feel weak physically, and struggling to get motivated.

He says my best friend will be my shiny new wheelbarrow, he is buying me, hehe but seriously can’t wait, as it’s going to be our home hopefully. But need to get organised with the plan again. So glad you are still going strong.

    Regards
    Jan 😊
