    Hello
I’m not diabetic but put on 11/2 stone and can’t get into my clothes. I don’t lose weight unless cut down carbs. Having no carb ploughma s and 1/2 avocado left from breakfast and chicken and salad for tea. Made chorizo chickpeas soup last night for next two day lunches and bought flaxseed for no carb Bircher tomorrow. Def need full fat yoghurt and need to weigh it all. Lovely to have someone to chat to! Big shock in scales this morning!

Hi there, can I hop in with you. I am re-starting tomorrow doing a full 8 weeks before my next holiday visitors in 10 weeks. I have been doing the plan for nearly a year now but recently holidays have put me off track and I have been losing the same 5 lbs for about 4 months. I can declare a weight of 75.2 kgs this morning. Oh, and I am diabetic so needed to keep my blood glucose on track for my next test in 10 days = help!!!!

Seem to be on the same track with a ploughmans for lunch today, egg and grilled mushrooms for breakfast. Tonight I am having what my husband calls mince and tatties but without the tatties, I have some mashed cauli and broccoli mix in the freezer. The Spanish chickpea and chorizo soup is one of my favourites and I have a portion of that in the freezer. The freezer is my biggest friend as all left overs go there rather than me ‘just finishing them off’.

Shaunamary what was your big shock on scales this morning or are you not telling.

Hello and welcome. You must know all the nice things to eat then?!!! I’m 76kg… disgusted with myself. Tried calorie control and doesn’t work.. done Rachel rickett 3 yr ago and lost 2 stone but been ill and eaten for comfort. Keep trying and failing and end up eating lots of sweets. How much can I expect to lose in first few weeks? On holiday 8/7 but self catering but bound to be bit naughty. Doing fitness pal… calories soon disappearing!!! X

    Today I’ve had
    Breakfast- yogurt with stewed rhubarb
Lunch- lettuce cups with chicken and walnuts, apple and celery
Tonight we are having lamb and pine nut meatballs with Moroccan salad.
The food has been delicious and I’m feeling fabulous!!!!

I am using MyFitnessPal app too but it doesn’t like the 800cal limit. How do you over ride it?

No Gpowpow, first time around I lost 13 lbs, not a massive amount and had a total of 3 stone 7 lbs to lose, but I am more concerned with my blood glucose which went from 11.2 to 6.9 in the 8 weeks and is now down to 5.4. In total I had lost 20 lbs but somehow it has crept back so I am still at the 13 lbs loss which is why I want to do this properly again – that is half a stone gone back on all because of holidays, I must learn from that. My one excuse is that I have just had 3 holidays back to back, 1 week in Alicante with my family (daughter & 2 grandsons), 1 week on a cruise and now just had my family staying and been out and about and mainly eating in crap places that kids like. In my defence, because of the diabetes, I tend to stay away from white carbs but cannot say no to a mojito or two. Funny how I think bread is evil but white rum and lime are part of my five a day LOL.

Anyway, I am back as Arnie would say and I want to lose 10 lbs this time, assuming it will be harder for me as I wont have that week one water rush. Talking of which, drink lots and lots of water and don’t worry if you are peeing for England (or whatever country you are in, I am in France) as that is how fat leaves your body and it will do that for the first 2 or 3 weeks. If you have any questions please ask, I dont know everything, obviously or I would be perfect and still losing weight instead of starting again, but I have been there and got the t-shirt. Good luck everyone and keep on keeping on…

Thats great news about reducing you blood glucose and also 7 pounds when you have been on cruise etc is not bad at all. haha i would be the same with the rum. I do have a few social things in the diary with regards to drinking!! I will have to go over calories on these days and i know it will slow down the weight loss but Id rather live and loose a little slower then not live at all. Vodka and soda though only. I will be exercising alot though and i am a runner so hopefully this will help.

Roger that !! I am drinking my water left right and centre. I do need to cut way down on my black coffee as I dont think this helps either with cortisol and tummy area. Therefore my matcha green tea it is from now.

Yep good luck everyone 🙂 and i hoep you have had a good first day x

    Hi
I started today too after ordering the 8-week diet recipe book last week. I weight 14.13 and need to be 10 stone to qualify for breast reduction plus hate being a size 22 top and 18 bottom as Im only 5.4 height. I tried this diet last year when you could collect it over a few days in the daily mail and lost 10 pounds in a week! Gave up though. Today feel a tad light-headed, hungry and tired but still managed 13,000 steps on fitbit.
Breakfast – full fat greek yogurt (mmm like cream after eating low fat for decades) 4 strawberries chopped up and seeds and nuts
Lunch – 3/4 tin of tuna in oil drained with salad leaves, balsamic and olive oil
Dinner – roasted non-car veg in balsamic, season all and rapeseed oil which is delicious and 1 small slither of salmon steak
Loving the oil – I could drink it!
    Tomorrows menu already prepared:-
Breakfast – 2 boiled eggs and handful of spinach
Lunch – salad leaves, cucumber, left over cold roasted veg and 3 chunks of marinated chicken from a kebab barbeque last night
Dinner – I home-made burger with small salad and mayo

    Good luck all xx

Hi all, can I join you (if a bit late!)? Just got back from holiday and have put in about 4lbs which doesn’t sound much but I feel heavy and ‘blobby’, especially around the middle. Also had a really bad bout of sugar-festing so have that to combat as well. I know I just need to get off the sugar for about 3 weeks and then it will be over but I think I know how smokers feel trying to give up – I know all the bad things about sugar but it still pulls me in!
I will start again tomorrow and hopefully together we can do this.

I’m really proud of my DH who is also doing the diet.

168lbs today, would like to be about 40lb lighter but mini goal is to get into the 150s.

Am a slow loser and have been suffering water retention recently so scales not my friend at the moment – any increases whether it be water or fat are very discouraging for me so might weigh in weekly or even fortnightly if i feel ‘waterlogged’. Will see how it goes.

Thank you Anyexcuse – yes, my diet was the same but Spanish! And of course lots of Spanish beer in the 30 deg sunshine 🍻🍻☀️ My biggest weakness as far as sugar goes is café con leche with sugar – i love strong, sweet coffee .
But I am starting again tomorrow- my lunch is prepared in the fridge and I will resist sweetened coffee in the morning. I have 8 weeks until I go back to Spain so a good time to get myself back to feeling good.
I do use the recipe book – I love anything with cauliflower rice, the chicken korma is lovely; the Thai fish cakes are also very good, and the spicy stuffed red peppers are nice although I try to avoid too many pulses.

    Keep smiling SSB

Shaunamary, light headedness, if you were diabetic I would give medical advice but you have just had a low sugar response. Eat a couple of prunes or dried apricots with a couple of spoons of FULL FAT Greek yoghurt to bring your levels back up but wont hurt your calories too much.

Had a 25 minute swim this evening and stuck to the plan pretty well. Is anyone weighing daily, I do, it is supposed to be motivational if you have lost and a lesson learnt if you havent.

Morning all, today was my official weigh in as I started on a Tuesday nearly a year ago. After the first 8 weeks I finished up at 75.3 kgs (11 st 9.5) and today I am exactly that again, so I have basically been maintaining for the past 10 months. I have been down as low as 72 kg (11 st 4.5) but when I hit that I then went on 3 holidays and it is easy to be good for a week, not so easy to continue for weeks 2 and by week 3 I just said what the hell. So here I am starting from scratch.

Gpowpow, bare naked noodles are okay in terms of calories but one of the things some people suffer from is carb withdrawal and sugar cravings which when they give in to or find a replacement carb, find it difficult to stop and binge. For this reason some of us choose not to eat any carbs. For a diabetic this is very important, not so much for those just needing to lose weight and Dr M says you can have carbs just as a side dish and not as the main event. So if you can eat a carb and not go crazy, why not, with the proviso it might slow down your weight loss and might bump up the calories over the 800.

Today I have had blueberries, almond slivers and Greek yoghurt for breakfast, grilled halloumi and bacon salad for lunch and a home made chicken curry for dinner with 100 calories left over for an evening snack.

    Keep on keeping on…

Hi, hi. I started round two yesterday aiming to lose 6-8 kg with a starting weight of 58kg. Just wanted to say how full of admiration I am for all of you who manage to overcome the sweet tooth. This is my major problem and I have been unable to slay the monster. I bought some Mosher Roth 85% dark chocolate from Aldi thinking that would do the trick. Unfortunately I’ve had to give that up add I find it altogether too appetizing and a sure road to ruin. 🙁 Maybe one day eh. 🙂
    Stay positive everyone xx

Hi Buttermeup, I was interested in your report on the sweet tooth. I’m amazed by the reports from people saying they will never go back to eating the old way, and that they don’t want sweet stuff any more. I’m with you and wonder if my sugar addiction will ever be under control. At the moment it is all or nothing, currently nothing except for one square of dark chocolate a day. After 4 weeks I was amazed how sweet 70% tasted when it never had before. I’m often tempted to have more, particularly on challenging work days, but have not succumbed to more than 2 in a day. And you find that 85% is too tempting, so you must be slaying the sweet tooth somewhat because that’s bitter for me.

So keep on working to beat the sugar monster as will I. My eight weeks ends just before my birthday so I will make a sweet treat from Mosley’s book to celebrate and share with colleagues who also have birthdays that week. It will be interesting to see if I can resist gorging. And the week after I’m at a catered workshop where there are delicious morning teas every day. Will take nuts to help and perhaps a piece of fruit at morning tea so I don’t feel left out.

    We will win!

Sunshine-girl i see what you mean about the zero noodles, I will only have them as a treat maybe. Tbh i do not crave alot of carbs so i should be fine on that front. For those that have doen this diet, does this hunger feeling pass ? I am finding myself incredibly hungry today especially after the gym to the point I may go over my 800 🙁 Will this pass in days to come ? x

Crabbycams fruit and nuts would be a good combo

Gpowpow, yes the hunger does pass – around week 2 or 3, in the meantime drink plenty of water which will make you feel fuller, make sure you have something within your calories to snack on and dont forget to eat full fat foods like milk and yoghurts, cheese and butter, they help you to stay full longer. You are exercising and that makes you feel hungry so try to time your exercise quite close after a meal or just have a little something BSD friendly like a slice of ham or chicken or a boiled egg which comes in around 80 calories. Just on that subject around the carbs, they can trigger your hunger pangs as they give a quick boost of sugar and a quick drop which is another reason to eat fats (not fatty – good fats).

I have just noticed that I have knocked 2.5 lbs off my weight by not working out my kilos to pounds correctly. I use the 2 because here in France it is kilos but for my UK family and friends it is stones and pounds and on another site (American) it is pounds. I should just stick to one or the other and it will have to be kilos as that is what my scales are. Anyway, I weigh 75.3 kilos that much is true but that is 11 st 12 lbs NOT 11 st 9.5 lbs.

Hi all, I started yesterday too. It’s my first time but I did lose about 12kg about 4yrs ago doing the 5:2. I kept going with it for a couple of years after that but the weight was creeping as while my diet is pretty good, My portions are massive! I have 15-20kg to lose.
So, a question to all, I did read the book but must have missed the bit about eating extra oil. Is this meant to be? Oil is so calorie dense?
I use MFP too. And to start yesterday I went for my first mport assessment. How fab is mport! If you live in Australia you can find mports at Westfield shopping centres (the website tells you locations). And in case any of you are wondering, no I do not work for mport or have any affiliation!

Crabbycams I am in awe that you can stop at one wee square so I’d say you were well on your way to beating the sugar addiction.
I’m that way with carbs. During my three weeks off the diet I made macaroni cheese, my all-time favourite meal. I was so looking forward to it you can barely imagine, but I just could not eat the gloopy, slimy mass that it has become.
Next up was fajitas with a tortilla wrap. Never, ever again. It was like eating thick paper. Most unappealing.
A nice slice of toast with some soup, nope cannot eat that cardboard again.
Quiche crust. Yuk. Basmati rice, maybe a spoon or two but that’s absolutely. Roast potatoes, no no no.
New potatoes with lashing of butter were fine and I still love baked spuds.
Tastebuds have changed beyond all recognition 🙂

To answer Beldoms question about fats. The diet doesn’t tell you to eat extra fats, it tells you to replace bad fats with good ones. Bad fats are the ones sold as ‘low fat’ or ‘fat free’ as and I quote from the book “when food manufacturers took out the fat, put in sugar to make their food more palatable. The low-fat Starbucks muffin (now discontinued) contained 430 calories and 13 teaspoons of sugar”.

This is not Atkins so you cant suddenly start eating fatty foods just dont use fake foods. As you said there are more calories in fats so the answer is to have a little within your calorie limitations. I have an avocado about once a week, cook with rapeseed oil and use a full fat yoghurt with olive oil and lemon as a salad dressing. Nuts are allowed but only a small handful daily. If you are on 800 calories you are not going to eat a lot of fats anyway.

When I started this plan my cholesterol was 6.9 and that was on the highest dose of statins allowed, now it is 3.7. When my doctor asked me what I ate and I told him eggs, cheese, cream, butter etc he sent me for a retest as he thought the low result was a mistake, but no it wasn’t. So I have halved my cholesterol and halved my statin dose. Trust in the plan, it does work.

I am making some cauliflower ‘bread’ (from this website). It’s not that I particularly crave bread, but sometimes you need a vehicle for other things. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it comes out.

I can happily go all day doing IF and not even think about food but I get in from work and I’m completely overtaken by the hunger monster! I can (and have!) binge for England if I don’t keep a check in myself. However, if I am late home and get past the 5.00-6.00 time, I’m fine again. I’m thinking that maybe I need to go for a run or walk at that time just to get through it.

I restarted on 3rd June. I’m on day 5 and so far so good, previously I had given up by day 2/3. This time I have really made an effort to make sure that I am drinking 2+ litres of water a day. This has helped me to feel full and helped with headaches. I have also planned and shopped ahead for all my meals this week, to try and stay on track. This time I haven’t been focusing on my weight loss but on my blood sugar levels, which already seem to be improving.

The worst day so far has definitely been day 2 when I had the most awful headache and felt exhausted.

I did go slightly off course last night and ended up eating a handful of nuts, but I figure there are worse things I could have eaten. I should have just had a cup of tea and gone to bed!

How is every body else finding it so far? Have any of you started exercising?

    Morning all
4.2 lb down since Monday so thrilled to bits. Think nuts ok as snack Papillon.. I’m having90 cal of almonds when feeling light headed.
I’m averaging 900 cal as can’t quite get it to 800. .. don’t know why. But losing well and enjoying the food in the main. No sugar cravings which surprises me and have had
No migraines either. I suffer from 4/ week and my hubvie is convinced it’s due to my sugar intake so that’s why trying this diet! And given up diet drinks too ! X
