Thanks all for the kind words everyone re my 10 sizes loss!
Angiebabe you asked how I am adjusting and like you I enjoy wearing the really baggy clothes and pulling them out seeing I could fit two of me in them but my clients and hubby keep saying they are way too big so I was waiting for a big sale at the chubby lady store. Yesterday they had an all store annual clearance sale!! Usually I show my husband each thing as I try it on for his opinion as things don’t always got well but yesterday they all fit great so when I came out of the dressing room, he was there waiting to see each one by one and instead I just gave him a thumbs up and he smiled. It’s kinda neat because now he hasn’t seen anything on me yet so he will be surprised.
All night he kept shouting joyously “you lost 10 sizes!!” As we both were kind of in disbelief honestly. I mean I look much smaller (not small) and clients and my doctor who hug me all said they can feel my ribs now (I thought them mentioning this was funny).
I will say having all my shirts fall off my shoulders was getting maddening.

Keep on it everyone and make sure you measure!! There were weeks I lost 0 lbs but I usually always lost inches. 1 week I lost no lbs and 5.5 inches on my waist! I think Bill said the theory is when we lose visceral fat sometimes our weighty can stay the same as our body adjusts but the fat still goes.

Wishing you all the best! 💜

Week 1 weigh in – 7.5lbs lost. I’ve lost more on low carb in the past but I was trying to do shakes in the early part of the week and I’m wondering if that wasn’t my issue. Still it’s 7.5 lbs gone and I will take it. 🙂

Way to go Happylife!!! You must be on cloud nine right now.

Oldlady yep find the tape measure, it’s worth it if you see the inches people have lost on here. Not everything is shown on the scale unfortunately.

7.5lb in a week is not to be sniffed at LACali21!! I wish I could see the same. As a slow loser, I’m chuffed to bits if I can get to 3lb off in one week, with most weeks being more like half of that. What is great with the BSD though, is that week on week, there is almost always some sort of progress to be pleased about – lbs or inches lost, feeling healthier, looking better in your clothes, dropping a dress size, etc. Grab the positive with both hands and set your sights on the future!

SunnyB I have a lot to lose. 🙁 Still over 100lbs and I’ve already lost almost 20lbs. I think that’s why I’m in such a rush to get this stuff off, because there is so much of it.

Thanks for the kudos HappyLife and SunnyB. I look forward to what week 2 has to offer.

    Hi
There are a lot of us who have 100 pounds or so to loose, so never fear we are in it with you following in captainlynnes beautiful wake, we just follow her example , keep motivated, keep planning, and being patient, the good results will arrive most definitely. I say this from a 41 years of wasting time with slimming clubs etc, all they taught me was how to eat loads. If I can do this plan absolutely anyone can.
    So dont despair keep smiling.

    Hey Sunny!
I have a lot to lose also and have lost 39 on this plan (in middle
If week 13 now) and 59 total since February.
Still have 100 or a little more to go like you but just keep going. That’s the trick! It’s easy once you are rolling with it.

And anyone on here saying they can’t lose due to age – it’s not true. I am 61 and doctors told me for 25 yes I couldn’t lose weight due to being hypothyroid. It was a crock and now those doctors are sending me their clients and I work with them and help them lose weight.

Hey old lady (wish you picked another name as we should always tell ourselves positive words) so I change it to young spirit and will call you that. Haha)

Anyway yea get the tape measure and measure your chest, waist, hips, one thigh, and one arm. I have clients do this weekly and do it myself as well. It’s an amazing motivator when the scale isn’t moving much certain weeks.

    Hugs!!

One other thing info and have clients do is log all our other measurements of success like:
I got off both BP meds!
    My bs is normal!
My dog can sit on my lap now!
I don’t need an extender on the airplane!
I can go to the theater without feeling crunched in their chairs.
    I walk better!

Just any positive thing you notice IS another measurement of your success do get a little notebook and log those down also.

Whenever you feel discouraged look at your of and remind yourself how many positives have occurred from your sticking with the plan!

    Hi oldlady,
Firstly – 4kg in two weeks is great! Yes, we do need fewer calories as we get older, but if you are losing at the rate of 4kg in 2 weeks then that is a reasonable rate of weight loss for any age. As Igorasusual and others have said – there are a lot of other measures that are worth taking, but your waist measurement is a key one. There are days when your waist will drop when the scales don’t. If you find you are losing weight and your waist is not dropping or is going down at a slower rate than your hips, then you may need to adjust your carb intake down a little and the fat up as you may not be burning fat.
Also – yes do have a pair of trousers you can’t get into and try them on, especially if you notice your current pair are getting a bit slack – one of the most exciting things has been rediscovering clothes I thought I would never get into again actually fit and after 4.5 months on this plan, I am now taking them to the charity shop as they are also too large!
The daily up and down I recognise – but I still weight myself daily. My weight-in day is Friday, and I do all the measurements then and write them all down. Other days I just step on the scales and check how things are going. Sometimes, the day before weight-in my weight dropped .5kg, weight-in day it was back up .3kg. Assuming there is no other reason eg a lot of extra food the day before, that that weight will have gone again tomorrow or the next day because it is likely water retention. Since I see the daily changes, and that they right themselves or over correct in a couple of days I no longer worry over these small fluctuations. I also know that often the difference is lack of a bowel movement that day – sorry, maybe too much info….. but true! Next day bowel movement and weight drops lower. I know my body patterns now because I weight daily and do not worry as much about these changes.
The other thing I did early on to help set my own expectations, was to graph my weight loss weekly over the 8 weeks. This website quotes an expected loss of between 10 and 20% depending on starting weight, age etc. MM lost 11% of his starting weight and reversed his diabetes. I lost 12% in 8 weeks and after 10 weeks I had lost 15kg and dropped 2 dress sizes. For the graph I took 10% of my weight and divided it by the 8 so I knew the weekly rate I needed to lose. I did the same for 20%. I plotted both against the weeks on the x axes and I could see easily how I was doing. You can do it in excel or on paper – but it is an other indicator and motivator and shows progress even if some weeks are slower than others. From your profile it looks like you are above the 10% just now 🙂 .
    Good luck

I couldn’t resist, I had to step on the scale this morning, I just felt smaller. 🙂 I’m at 8.6 lbs lost since my start last week – not bad for 8 days. I’ve been eating a lot of salads the last few days, I don’t know if that’s the help or if I’m just getting into the groove. Energy is increasing too.

    Hi all!

LaCali21, with the salads make sure you get protein at every meal as this piece of the program is crucial to not losing muscle mass while losing weight. If your body isn’t getting enough protein it will pull it from you (muscles including your heart) so make sure, if you lose muscle it’s not only dangerous but will greatly slow your metabolism.
All the keys for this program are what make it work so well. That’s why I love it for me.

Ruthdownunder, great job and keep going!!!!!

I always remind clients of the top keys:
    Protein at each meal
    Tons of water
    Only 3 meals a day
12 hours between dinner and breakfast

TWO NEW huge measurements for me!

1). Yesterday I went to grab a bracelet from my jewelry box and OH MY GOSH!! A bracelet that was literally 1/2″ too small to do up is now over 1/2″ loose so I have lost over an inch on my wrist and I never even had fat wrists!! So today I am wearing this very feminine small purple beads and gold bracelet that is girlie! I love it. And it fits! I never thought my bracelets from long ago would ever fit me and I am so glad I saved them.

    2) I don’t usually drive but as we were going on a 3 hour road trip I jumped in to do the first 2 hours. SHOCK! My stomach used to touch the steering wheel and now it’s an entire hand width plus 2 inches away!! (So about 7-8 inches away from the steering wheel). I don’t know why but this shocked my hubby and I. We know I’ve lost a lot re the 10 sizes smaller but this was a fun new discovery.

And this is why I always tell clients LOG ALL measurements including the happy things you discover that have changed as you lose weight.

Two more fun things to log for me!!!

On another note: At our hotel they have a full snack tray and fridge. Haven’t seen this for years as in the US they usually don’t have these anymore. So on top are two toblerone candy bars which used to love. So I covered them with tea bags. Never have things that could be a trigger around. I love tea but not their kind so I just ignore them all. Trust me, I have no cravings for the toblerone at all and didn’t want them but my way of being careful and loving myself is to take EVERY STEP to ensure I don’t slip. If I did want chocolate I would have a healthier 1 oz piece of dark chocolate and include it in my daily meal. That would not be a slip to me as it would be planned and is healthy for me.

Have an amazing day everyone and know we are all getting healthier each day!! And our bodies are breathing a sign of relief and thanks!

    Hugs!

Hi Jan, still going. HappyLife such fun about the bracelet. I have a question for you, Captainlynne and any of our other superstars – Bill? Do one’s feet get smaller? or does the effect of age/gravity counteract weight loss? I am hoping to find out – no rephrase that – am going to find out for myself but it will be a while yet.

    Hi Ruth

Yes, feet shrink too! I’ve had to throw away shoes that are now too big, including my favourite pair of fitflops 😱 From taking a wide fitting, I’m now in a standard fitting.

I’ve recently been told I’m an inch shorter than I’d thought, which makes a slight difference to my healthy BMI. Top of range now 9st 7 pounds instead of 9st 11pounds, but medical professionals have always said I should be 9 stone 7 pounds!

At 66 years of age I think I’ll go with how I feel (and look) before settling on that final target figure.

Wow there are so many inspirational people on here I’ve almost cried a couple of times!

I’m still in the first week of my journey, start weight 13st 5 or 187lb (I’m 5ft6 so bmi 30). I really want to lose 3st. I’ve shied away from setting such a high target in the past (although I did achieve it once before with LighterLife, desperate times) but some weight went back on after death of MIL and has been slowly creeping up since.

You guys have really made me think “I know I can do this” so thank you (nearly got emotional again!).

I know the weight loss will slow down but I started on Monday at 13st 5lb and today the scales are saying 12st 12.8lb!!
-6.5lb in 5 days!!!! And back in a lower stone bracket already (sorry to everyone who works in kilos). It’s so motivating.

And last night I made the Spanish chickpea and chorizo soup from the book and it was delish! The OH said how tasty it was 🙂

Thanks Janet. I’m going to London for the day on 17th August to get fitted for my new uniform. Train to Kings Cross then tube to Elephant & Castle. After that might visit a few bookshops 😃 Then train home.

Sorry your sister is struggling – can I help?

I was in London 6 years in total. Two training at Denmark Hill, then four years in Hoxton. Then Devon, then Cornwall. Then North Tyneside. Currently in County Durham – former pit village between Durham & Bishop Aukland (at least that’s the bus route).

Imp98 – thanks. I don’t really have many before photos (tended to avoid them as much as possible). When it was unavoidable I really didn’t like the results! One was taken last weekend – I certainly look different 😳

I don’t have a full length mirror at home, so it’s when I stay in a hotel I really see a difference – was scary the first time I saw myself in a full length mirror after losing lots of weight!

    Yippee sunshine-girl.

Oh that’s kind of you to offer help captainlynne.,
I do my best but I think she is not putting her well being to a high enough priority, she’s 46 so hasn’t felt the nasty effects of weight and age yet. She is also very busy organising her daughters wedding, and that seems to have taken over.
I have encouraged her to step back a bit and allow others to step forward and start helping, she has listened a bit , so we shall see. I will tell her you have offered help.
Unfortunately I am a 3 hour drive away, otherwise I could be much more support for her, but we just have to patient until all these obstacles pass, and for the blinkers to drop away.
So perfect planning and determination got you to your fitting day, on time so wonderful, you can be a role model for others to follow, in the benefits of good nutritious food. Your work will be much easier.
That’s a long journey from Durham to London, but easier on the train. I go up to Ulverston in Cumbria regularly for festival retreats, it’s a lovely journey by train but by car zzzzzzzz last time it took me 10 1/2 hours, just made the first session by 10 mins. Yeaaa.
    Hope your weekend is happy.

just wanted to say a big thank you for all the help there is on these forums. My weight is stuck (3 weeks in and only lost 1kg in last 12 days) but after several suggestions to get a tape measure I got one yesterday and measured my ‘waist’. Good grief – here’s me thinking that wearing a size 16 (that’s an M&S and Next size 16, not designer size 16) my waist can’t be that bad and when you read that over a certain measurement your health is at risk well I’ve always assumed that mine is below that. Talk about denial – what I thought was probably 30/31 is in fact 39″ – the number in cms is too terrfying to write down. So now I’ve told you all and I’m going to have to do something about it. So good luck to everyone on here and thanks for all the positive comments. You keep me going.

    Hi oldlady,
my starting waist measurement was 41 inches, and like you I used to be a 26 inch waist in my 20’s and early 30’s. I too thought my waist was ok – I was looking at the ratio waist to hips that you hear about and, yes 3-4 years ago, it probably was ok, but my January this year it was no longer ok! My last measurement (Monday) my waist was down to 33 inches. My goal is 30 inches.
You may recognise the following – I used to be a dress size 14 – and I was 36, 26, 37. I am 5 foot 8 inches so that was slim and although the 14 was not a snug fit, I got the benefit of a slightly longer sleeve, length and shoulder breadth. I made all my own clothes then, so I remember my measurements well.
I moved to the Netherland in the 90’s and lost track of dress sizes – I tried on clothes and got the size that fitted. The European sizes were different and at that time, Germany was different to Italy to France etc. More recently they have a common sizing which is so much easier. Anyhow – it is a much healthier approach just trying on and ignoring labels!
When I came back to the UK 10 years ago I was a size 22. I have gone down to a 16 and back up again in that time.
When I started this I was a 20 – 22. I lost 2 dress sizes quickly and realised I was heading to a size 14 soon, yet my weight was nowhere near the weight I had been when I last wore a 14 – I was 10 stone 3 oz then. This did my head in and I started to do a comparison of my current measurements on the M&S size charts and at a 14, and they bear no relationship to the old sizes. I knew they had changed a bit – I thought it was about one dress size, but it is a lot more than that! My old measurements would have put in into a size 10 skirt and the waist would have been too loose, but a size 12 blouse. No wonder everyone thinks they should be an 8 or 10! Anyhow – I think my old approach of I don’t care about the dress size, just if it fits me is probably best!
Keep going, now you have a waist measurement you will start seeing it moving down. The only good thing about measuring in cm – once you get over the large number – is that it is east to see 0.5 cm down and 1 cm down and feel chuffed, it is 1.2 cm before you see a 0.5 inch 🙂 .
    Good luck this week.

Orchid – my starting waist was 49″. I have a vague memory that I used to be 28″.

I’ve gone from 50, 49, 54 to 38, 33, 42. I know what you mean about wearing whatever size fits – different stores have different sizing. Our uniforms have been made by so many different companies we never know what size will fit😳 Even when we have a good idea on size, especially with blouses, two the same size will still sometimes be different. I have been known to take the blouses out of my wardrobe to see which (all the same size) is the larger or (more recently) the smaller!

I haven’t been brave enough to buy clothes in Italy yet. Years ago I did buy a dress in Paris though. I didn’t have much money so had to choose – a nice meal somewhere, or buy the dress and eat in McDonalds. The dress won.

Yowzer49 – if waist should be half height, mine should be 30.5″ so I’ve still some way to go. Of course, I could always try to stretch my height another 5″ LOL

Fortunately it’s not a bad journey from Durham to London on the train – just take something to read! Nothing can ever be as bad as St Ives in Cornwall to Manchester. That took nearly a day. When I moved up here from Cornwall I flew 😃 I used to do Cornwall to London by coach but the journey seemed never-ending. Caught the sleeper a coupe of times – that was fun 😃

I was bad at taking care of me, but just before Christmas I gave myself a good talking to, cancelled a visit to family and took time for me. It wasn’t easy. That’s just the way I am or, should say, was). Happy to care for others but no time for me. I’ve had to accept that if I don’t take care of myself it has a negative impact on what I can do for others, whether professionally or family.

Unfortunately it’s a decision we have to make for ourselves, when the time us right. Please let me know if I can do anything.

Orchid – I checked up on clothes size comparison in 1970s (I was size 12 then) to now. Seems to be roundabout 4 dress sizes different so in today’s sizes I would have been a size 8. A part of me feels slightly conned, after all most of us use clothes sizes as some indication of our measurements. I am putting all my details into Excel ((in pretty colours of course) and also put my blood pressure and now my waist measurement on. Well done to you and your OH. Wish my OH would join in but his idea of a diet is 3 sausages instead of 4. Still at least I’ve got him to eat more fish and yesterday I piled loads of salad on his plate and told him there was so much there he didn’t need bread. It worked – will have to do baby steps.

Ruthdownunder – well done you. I have a pair of brown velvet trousers that are flat fronted and quite slim – how I would love to get into those again although I have to admit that’s a secondary goal as my first is to stave off the diabetes that plagues the rest of my family.

re the ‘oldlady’ name. didn’t think but of course if you don’t know me it comes across as a negative name but in fact it’s a joke name. I have a group of friends all about to hit or have hit 70 this year and we all have ‘old’ as part of our nicknames for this year so ‘old crone’, ‘old hag’, ‘old bat’ and ‘old geezer’. as we’re all old friends. obviously all slightly nuts as well.

Weigh in tomorrow. I’ll be back then. thanks all.

Thanks Captainlynne – congrats to you and everyone. I won’t throw out some nice shoes just yet.

I know about the clothes sizes – 70 also old lady, because I was an ’11’ when I was 20, so guess that would be an 8 now or a 7?- I am very short also. I had no hips and could make a skirt out a yard (not a metre!) of material. I am not after that again, but would like to be at the top of my healthy BMI.

I have been struggling again this week, yo-yoing up and down across the same pound and being dogged by that constant companion – constipation. Seems like whatever I try, I am still lucky if I have a movement a week!!!! Historically I have pretty much always has a sluggish bowel, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised with the current situation. Currently taking inulin and chia twice daily, eating veggies and salads, drinking as much as I can etc. and still my body refuses to co-operate in a ‘normal’ way. All very frustrating, as I am sure it is impacting on the reading on my bathroom scales!

Hoping that when I get on the scales tomorrow, I will see I am – at worst – the same as last Monday (Monday being my weekly weigh-in, against which I calculate my over all weight loss for the week). Please, please don’t let it be an overall gain for the week.

Meggy61? I have the same problem. The evening is the worst time for me because I watch a lot of TV and HAVE to eat something whilst viewing my favourite things! I’ve recently found some popcorn bags from M&S – the sweet and salty bags are only 73 calories (not sure about the carbs but I don’t think its TOO bad!) and I can make them stretch out a bit.

Hi SunnyB, I am a slow loser and have had constipation too. What worked for me was a couple of prunes daily and a glass of Andrews Liver Salts. With my diabetic tummy I usually have the opposite problems so it is unusual to not go at least twice a day.

Thanks for the advise – will be giving that a try. I am so frustrated with the situation, I’d pretty much try anything right now actually! Was taking Potters Cleansing Tablets for a while, but after initially doing the job, the effectiveness seemed to wane, hence the shift to inulin and chia – and today, senna tea. Prunes and Andrew’s on the shopping list now.

The M&S popcorn is 8g of carb for the 70odd calories. Depending on where you are aiming with carbs may be ok with you. 🙂

    Hi SunnyB
I looked at Potters tablets because someone else mentioned them here – the main ingredient is senna, & senna tablets are tons cheaper – Boots do an own brand, which is about half the price of the market leader. I don;t use then all the time, but they are handy if my digestive system gets a bit sluggish.

Andrews liver salts Sunshine Girl – I didn’t know you could still get those!
When I was growing up, fizzy drinks were nowhere near as readily available as they are now (weekly Corona van, but my Mum couldn’t always afford to buy any). A huge treat was a fizzy drink made with orange squash and Andrews liver salts.

I bought popping corn from the supermarket the other day Igorasusual
    – 500g for £1.29, and 10g made quite a satisfying bowlful, 7.6 grams of carb (and there’s always a few kernals that don’t pop)
Ages since I’d made any, and filled a craving

Hi Frog, I bet your mums treat was more regular than the Corona van 🙂

Thanks for the input everyone. Will report weigh-in results tomorrow. Hopefully things will begin to move again soon and weight loss will settle back to the steady pound or two a week again.
