Bloke41 (and anyone else still reading), I’ll be back early March. Things have gone a bit haywire – nothing terribly serious – and I’ve got to take a brief break. Good luck. Keep posting, bloke41. You’ll keep me on the relatively straight and narrow…

Its a shame these forums dont enable you to post pics, had amazing sunset today. Take care all till next time.

    Gday all,

Week 25 done and dusted. Increased my walking this week, feeling little ginger in the legs, did a personal best yesterday 30,180 steps , 19.8km. Pretty happy with that considering back in August last year when l started, i was doing around 6.500 steps per day. Apple cider vinegar, ginger, cinnamon, lemon, cayenne pepper and raw honey tonic is getting easier to drink as the days go by.
    Weigh in results:
    Weight 117.2kg
    Waist 123cm
2.4 kg loss for the week,

    42.7kg loss to date

18.2 kg to go till l reach my goal of 99kg, doesn’t seem as daunting.
Have a good one all, keep on plugging away…….

Hi bloke41. Yes, it’s a shame we’re the only two left posting. Especially as I’ve let the side down these last couple of weeks. I’ve gone back up to 79.2 kg. Still, better to get back on it than just let it slide.

Things are starting to look up in other areas and my veg patch is getting closer to being ready. So that will be good exercise for me. And healthy food when it’s in production.

You are doing really well, by the way. Not long at this rate till you hit your target. Anyone else fancy rejoining and keeping me company?! It’s never too late.

    Hi Snoop and bloke 41!

I’m still here, just reading though, because we are travelling at the moment and…
    1: I have no scales.
2: I have no continuous internet.
3: I am not doing the 5:2 because it’s just too hard when you’re in different countries etc.

    Excuses, excuses….. I know!๐Ÿ˜‹

I have been as careful as I can, though, and doing my minimum of 10000 steps every day, so there shouldn’t be too much damage done, I hope. Fingers crossed. December and January weren’t great, too much socialising and too little will power. Back home soon, and back on the wagon. ๐Ÿ‘
Congratulations to you both, you’re putting in a fantastic effort! You are really inspiring!

    Gday Snoop & Arthurconandoyle

Great hearing from you both. My 6 months is up on my Journey, can’t believe l started way back on 28th August and so glad my mother in law mentioned BSD to me. Don’t know where ld be if l didn’t stumble onto the BSD, hell alot heavier more than likely.
Another 17.9kg to go till l reach my goal. l remember saying to my self, how the hell am l going to lost 61 kg, seemed like a massive amount to lose at that time.

Been a testing week last week, with my wifes birthday last Saturday. Had her brother come down for her birthday to surprise her, which she hadn’t seen for a couple of years. We ended up going out for Friday dinner, had awesome sizzling lamb with veg. Then we went out sat for lunch at one of our fav spots Evans head, had not so good salmon with veg and then for Birthday dinner we went to another fav spot in Ballina and ended up having a seafood mixed grill with veg which was pretty darn good. Sunday broke the camels back, o/h wanted to go out for lunch at seagulls smorgasbord in tween valley, l knew it would be a massive test, i was thinking just will do one plate, but just couldnt resist all the seafood on offer since it was seafood smorgasbord, on the positive side l didnt touch the deserts or carbs but still way over did it. Didnt beat my self up to much about it, ended up fasting for Monday’s breaky and lunch, hopefully didnt do to much damage. Will be interested what the scales reveal on my Sunday weigh in.

With all this sea food l have been having, im quite surprised my gout hasnt rared its ugly head. I wonder if there is something in that dreaded apple cider tonic. Fingers crossed it stays away….

I’ve gone a little be crazy in the walking stakes, since joining 1,000 mile challenge, ended up doing 209.5 miles for month of Feb and 408 miles year to date, l think its the competitive side of me, wanting to do better each month, l think my o/h thinks im going bonkers..

Snoop, what kind of stuff have you got in your vegie patch? i need to pull my finger out and start mine again

Arthurconandoyle, l had a couple of weeks like that in october, just got back on the bandwagon, im sure you can do it.

Have a good one all, keep on keeping.

    Gday Arthurconanddoyle

Must admit gets tiring on the body exercise wise, been doing 20,000 steps (13km) most days, and hitting 30,000 steps (20Km) last few weekends. Also been doing core strength exercises 4 times a week which probably takes about 45 mins each session. I mainly do the exercises mentioned in the BDS book and a A-40 routine which l found on YouTube and is tailored for people over 40, which really was hard to begin with, getting little easier as the weeks go by. Seeing the kg drop has motivated me to keep going, and sometimes when l feel like Iโ€™m faltering, l end up watching YouTube clips about other peopleโ€™s weight loss journeys or read these forums, which tends to give me a kick up the bum to keep going.
    Diet wise
First thing in the morning l take 2 fish oil tablets and 2 beef gelatine tablets, followed by the Organic apple cider vinegar tonic, which consist of 1 tbs ACV,1tbs raw honey, sprinkle cayenne pepper,1tbs lemon, pinch of grated ginger & ยผ tps cinnamon.
My usual breaky is 150 grams plain Greek yogurt with 1tbs nuts with either strawberries or blue berries or sometimes when l have the time l go for 2 egg mushroom/spinach omelette or 1 fried egg with ยฝ an avocado.

Lunches is mainly a salad with either tuna/sardines/chicken breast/turkey balls when Iโ€™m working and on the weekends usually do one of the recipes from the book

Just prior to dinner l drink another ACV tonic without the honey

Dinners tend to be my biggest meal, usually either baked salmon, steak, beef/chicken/lamb stir fry with heap of veg for the side. Most Sundays we still do a roast pork or lamb with heap of veg. Been using a lot of herbs and spices, my favourite lately is doing a massive amount of baked vegies with drizzle of olive oil and heap of smoked paprika, mixed herbs and turmeric

I also have a bowl of sugar free jelly or an icy pole for desert most nights

Prior to going to bed l also take 2 beef gelatine tablets.

Thatโ€™s pretty much been my routine day in day out. I try to avoid snacking at all cost but sometimes l give into a piece of fruit. I also tend to stay away from carbs like the plague. I also fast for two meals a week. l have found sugar free gum a very handy tool in my journey so far.

Have a good one all, and never bloody give up!

Thanks so much, bloke41, for going into such detail. It will benefit me, for sure but I am also hoping it will be of benefit to my 26 year old son. As I mentioned, we’ve been away but he has been home. He makes really poor choices when Mum and Dad aren’t there to cook, sadly. Lots of take away. He has put on weight while we were away and he was a big boy to start with! I’m really worried about him but I suspect that he thinks it’s just too hard and too big a job.

Still have my one square of Lindt Dark Chocolate at night. Unlike milk chocolate, I can stick to my one square.
Tried your Greek yogurt breakfast recipe, bloke41. Delicious! The nuts made it last in terms of eating time and the time it kept me feeling full.

Good stuff Arthurconanddoyle, my wife gets those potatoes, apparently tastes the same as the regular spuds. I’ve stuffed up a few times buying the yogurt, getting no fat version, instead of the full fat version. Full fat version, tends to keep my hunger pains at bay.

Had some grilled fish and salad for lunch today, going out with the boys for lunch at work. Always tough opting out of chips and just sticking to salad for the side

Got a wedding this saturday, think l may do a fast for breaky and lunch and enjoy the dinner, will try to avoid the grog.

Hmm. Not pleased with myself because I have been playing a bit fast and loose with the BSD, with the inevitable result. I’m always in a bind when I eat out, eating at home is less of a problem. Because I have to find gluten free menu options, I often end up with rice based dishes which are never going to be good on the BSD. It just requires more pre planning and checking the menus online beforehand so that I make good decisions. Note to self: planning is essential! Otherwise, it all comes unstuck.
Will reread the book instead of relying on what info is in my head and start again with more determination and focus!

Very happy with that, makes hitting the pavement worthwhile, even though there were days where I struggled with the rountine.

My wifes thinking of trying to do the 8 week program again, she really struggled with having no carbs. She’s done the slimfast shakes for the last 3 weeks. I dont think I could go with out a good meal for that long. Looks like I will be the head chef for next 8 weeks or so, I might even cut back calories and just stick to 800 cals.

I fly out next friday for my dads surprise 70th birthday, staying for a week or so, will be very hard to keep away from the European rich home made cooking. Might do a early weigh in on friday before we fly out, I have a phobia of foreign scales haha.

A whole 300 g down in the last three weeks! Life still a bit complicated and, on occasions (quite often), convenience takes over from sensible decisions. Anyway, at least it was down and I am still carb aware if not totally white carb free.

Will be away until 6 April, so will log back in then and go for a proper restart. Always possible you might not need to log in by then, bloke 41. The rate you’re going, you’ll hit your target in just a few weeks.

Thanks snoop, yeah family were surprised, though they have seen me drop a lot of weight previously, so not as shocked as they could of been. Dads birthday was really good, though my food choices for the week where mostly good, just the amount of food l ate was way too much. Came back home to a massive flood, lucky didnโ€™t affect our home, though my work place went under for a couple of days. Feeling for the people of Lismore, coming into work this morning was surreal seeing all the devastation.

Had a loss of 2.2 kg since March 30, which sounds pretty good until you take into account that that only puts me back about where I started. Went to the Snowy with the Italian branch of my family, climbed Mt Kosciusko, did lots of exercise, but celebrated that with prosecco, cheese etc ๐Ÿ˜ข With the predictable results, of course. ๐Ÿ˜• Will I never learn?
Yet again, back on the wagon. It’s a pity that climbing on and off the wagon doesn’t burn calories – I’d be slim as by now!
The good news is that my son has joined me and lost 1.5 kg this week. He eats out a lot and as a student, lunch etc is part of his social life at uni. We have been experimenting with using Subway and making good choices. But I am equally sure that there are lots like us, who start, do well, fall down, get back up, restart and I am quietly confident that we will get there in the end. Had a very bad time foodwise in Britain. My Dad is in hospital and my Mum isn’t coping too well. So she’s on her version of a comfort food diet. We ate OK the days I cooked, not when she did. I think she lives off toast, ready meals and chocolate fudge cake. Amazingly, she’s actually losing a bit of weight but it didn’t do me any favours. I’ve not been going off the rails but nor have I been doing brilliantly. On reflection, I think I underestimate the calories in the food I am eating. I generally believe it is better to eat ‘real food’ rather than commercial products but I think I am very optimistic when I am assessing my calorie intake.๐Ÿค”
So I have decided to take a leaf from Mrs Bloke41’s book and switch to having a majority of calorie controlled meals ( shakes), for a while at least and see if that makes a difference. Started today, despite having read a whole lot of reviews that talk about cramping, flatulence, diarrhoea, constipation etc. ๐Ÿ˜
Wil do shakes for breakfast and lunch and have a ‘real food’ simple dinner that is easy to accurately calculate.
Will also aim to increase my walking. Have temporarily mislaid my step counter but I know what my regular walks are worth, so I can estimate that pretty accurately. Speaking of which, will put down the Ipad and go for my second walk of the day right now ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Been a hectic week, hence my late post, week 35 done and dusted. Went away for the weekend with my wife, decided to relax the food restriction, had awesome yum cha in Broadbeach and American smokey pork ribs, tasted awesome. Did relent to carbs, and had my first orange poppy seed muffin, in almost 8 months, hate to say it, it was awesome!, think l will always be tempted by the carbs. Also must confess have taken up coffee again, trying to stick to a couple a week, just got sick of having plain water. Another small weight loss of 0.2kg, its been the norm for past month or so. I guess it could of been a worse result. On the positive note, walked 225.9 miles for month of April, the most i’ve done since l started my journey.

Gee, bloke41, at the rate you’re walking I am expecting to open my front door in Sydney and see you on the doorstep! Broadbeach sounds like a great experience and you have to take time to relax and enjoy life and time with your partner. You seem to have got the balance right and obviously didn’t stray TOO far from the BSD path if you still had a loss.
    Snoop, how are you?
The shakes are going fine – for me, any thing that is calorie controlled is helpful. As I said before, I’m a bit too optimistic when I calculate my own calories. If the box says it’s 250 cal or 958 kj, I take note of that but if I estimated the calorie count myself, I’d probably come up with a lower figure. You know, wishful thinking and all that! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I have one or two shakes and a couple of apples in the day and then a cooked meal at night. Lost 2.4 kg this week. I needed some ‘aid’ to get me back on the straight and narrow – the shakes are my helper this time.

Never giving up……even if I am the slowest person in the entire history of the BSD!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Been eating a lot more, though still staying of the carbs. Been having sugar free Jelly most nights, at 7cal a pop, ive even had 2 serves at once.

    Weigh in result
    106.3 Kg
    Waist 116 cm
1 kg loss for the week
    53.6kg loss to date

Have a good one all, and remember never bloody give up, you can do it!

Hi guys, checking in. Going slowly, but still going.

    82.1 kg, down 0.6 kg

Gardening in earnest starts next week and am walking a bit more, though nowhere near as much as you, bloke41. With any luck should start to see steady drops soon.

    Hi everyone.

Welcome back, Snoop. Sorry about your loss. It’s a very hard thing to go through. I hope there are brighter days ahead for you.
Congratulations on your progress everyone. I’m doing OK, shakes for breakfast and lunch and a sensible dinner. All good ….. Until Eurovision party with friends ( a tradition in our family) pizza and salad and a slice of almond and orange cake and then Mother’s Day lunch the next day …. Put on 1.3 kgs can you believe? In only two meals! I wasn’t going crazy, either. Still, small price to pay for time with good friends and lovely family.
Back on the shakes twice a day and have lost the 1.3 kg and a little more besides by Thursday. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Enjoying walking in each day in the cooler autumn weather now – it’s lovely.
So, I’m still following Bloke41’s advice and “never bloody giving up” and it’s working, albeit slowly. ๐Ÿ˜‹

I have started using ebooks on the Kindle app on my phone as I walk, if I am alone. I reckon that I walk further without actually noticing, because my attention is on the story, not the walking. I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re walking on the road, though! I do it walking around a park.

    Hello everyone

    Remember me ?

I started this thread way back in 2016 and started 29th august

    loads of things have happened,

Great news for everone i hope is that from a start of 22 stone +

I am now TARGET WEIGHT of 12 stone exactly !!!!!!!!

    Cant believe it

No i didnt stick to the every single meal

yes i did go through all 8 weeks and then start again every two months

yes I have a couple of beers on a saturday

yes i have forgotten what bread is !!

Yes the Macular degeneration in my eye has receded so no injections had for 6 months ( BIG BONUS)

NO FLABBY SKIN (A big fear when i started)

hate going to the gym so i swim instead 3 times a week (Have encouraged my son to go who now goes more than me to the gym at the same time)

so yes , well worth it, well worth saying NO to every cake and bit of booze and simply selecting what when and where

    og yes… i succumbed and bought a spiralizer !!

Good luck to you all !!!

What a result, 54andfatnomore, a brilliant name that you have lived up to! Congratulations. And really good news about the macular degeneration too. So pleased for you. And really pleased to hear from you and to know you’re still out there.

That’s brilliant news, I always worry when people stop posting that they have just drifted back into bad habits, but you have just been plugging away and with great benefits to your health as well. Come and post on the 100 pound club thread, at 140 pounds plus you could be our biggest loser yet ๐Ÿ˜

    Gday all,

Great hearing from you 54andfatnomore & well done to sticking it out and what an amazing loss! I agree hard part is definitely maintaining it.

Arthurconandoyle watch out for those street light poles, l know lโ€™d definitely crash into a few.

Week 38 done and dusted, a slow week weight wise, with a drop of a measly 0.1kg, though happy to report, broke my walking record for the year, tracking 7hrs & 8 mins for total 36km! on Saturday, was very happy about that and surprisingly didnโ€™t feel too bad the next day.

    Weigh in result
    106.2 Kg
    Waist 116 cm
0.1 kg loss for the week
    53.7 kg loss to date

Have a good one all, and remember never bloody give up!

Wow, 54andfatnomore, that is wonderful news! Absolutely fantastic! I thought you might have dropped out when we didn’t hear from you but no! Good on you. Good on your son, too.

Lovely to hear from all the others, too. I thought it was down to bloke41, Snoop and me – it’s great to know you are all still out there.

A loss is a loss and it is a very good thing, bloke41, even if it’s a small one. Sometimes you surge, sometimes you plateau but as you always say, never bloody give up.

I had meant to write audiobook rather than ebook last time. My eyes are firmly on the road, I can assure you! Most Kindle books seem to have an audible narration available and the app on my phone lets me play them through the earbuds. I can also download lots of audiobooks from my library for free. I honestly find that sometimes I keep on walking when I usually would have finished because I just want to keep listening to the story.
