Firstly, thank you for asking, but I’m doing fine, still have some bruising but not really sore anymore.
Verano, so sorry your Portugal trip had to be deferred, but whatever the reason, I hope it will soon be resolved and you’ll get out there with your family in the near future.
Yowser, sounds like you are maximising the birthday fun and enjoying it for as long as possible … good for you!
    Positives here are ….
⛈ despite thunderstorms yesterday, there being only sealant on the terrace and no windows or doors, the villa only had fairly minor water ingress. Something of a relief, as we feared it might result in ceilings coming down.
😄🤗 lovely two day visit with friends, great to catch up. 😸🐾 they have an adorable pure white cat who is deaf, but is of a lovely disposition … was very hard not to hide him in our luggage!
🧥 successful shopping trip today, got OH a really smart coat and myself a long fluffy cardie and shirt in autumnal colours.
Looking forward to a meal out this evening.
If you have even just one positive, please take a moment to share it with us.

I see we’ve popped over to another new page! Well done Yowzer & Sunny for your persistence!
Hi Julia! Good to ‘see’ you. All well here hope all is well with you.
    So the Portugal saga.
We arrived at the airport in plenty of time for the flight but there was torrential, driving rain. The terminal is 400 mtrs from the parking area with no cover. There was no assistance. No way of getting into terminal without being soaked through. By the time the assistance arrived we had only an hour until take off. Didn’t really fancy a 3 hour flight soaked through. All very stressful but no choice really, just had to abandon the trip. I must admit after 15 years of travelling extensively with assistance this is the first time I’ve not been able to travel. So looking on the positive side that’s pretty good going!
    Anyway, that’s life.
So whilst I’m here I do have some positives….
Got a refund on our parking!
Managed to finish some outstanding paperwork which is always positive.
Almost finished organising a trip to the Canaries later this month.
Hope Monday has been good to you too.
P.S. Yowzer is you birthday very soon?

VERANO I am so sorry, what a massive disappointment that must have been.
My DD always has a philosophy when sthing like that happens, when a plan just has to change and leaves you with no choice in the matter, that theres a reason behind it that you might never get to find out..
you may have avoided an accident or sthing like that, and the Universe has conspired to stop you in order to keep you safe.
I dont know if theres any truth in it,but its a possibility…like when you hear of people who have got on a different train at the last minute and avoided being involved in a crash.
Anyhoo,at least you have the Canaries soon!X
SUNNY my neighbour has a lovely snow white cat, also deaf, white cats tend to be,bless them. I wd love to kidnap/catnap him!
Enjoy yr bargains and yr meal out tonight! X
    My positive for today..
*~ Beau is having a new kitchen fitted so we will be out and about more than usual this week. Went to John Lewis ( other dept stores available) Their Christmas section is magical,so colourful and sparkly and sequiny! Really enjoyed browsing around. Had our lunch in JL which was v nice. I completed my xmas shopping ( almost anyway) buying book tokens and choc santas and reindeers ( in the Lindt shop where theres always a free sample on offer! ) to add to the kids’ gifts bought online.
Thats enough from me for today. Stay warm and wrapped up peeps, winter is setting in! XX

Verano, just read about the trials and tribulations of getting your flight. How bloody awful for you. You seem to be taking it better than I would. Lets hope you get away to the Canaries with no bother.

Im not sure if I should cancel my cruise in June as, since booking I have developed asthma and today found out I have atheresclerosis and have to have surgery. Every since I hit 69 bits have been falling off me. 🙂

Hi S-g it was ‘bloody awful’ but you know over the past few years I’ve become as good at cancelling as I am at booking! So I guess it wasn’t too much of a shock.
June 2023 is over seven months away. You have plenty of time to have your op and recover and then think about cancelling. Knee jerk reactions are never good and you will probably be fine and then really enjoy cruising.
So I do have a few positives ….
Made a huge pan of lentil soup today and used some frozen carrots that OH bought a while ago that I wanted to use up. The soup is good but I think fresh carrots probably have more flavour …. or maybe that just my imagination!
Last week I roasted some chicken thighs and they were awful. Not sure why anyway, I have another pack so tomorrow I’ll be making chicken soup. My ‘lockdown’ soup freezer will be almost full then.
Received an invitation to a wedding next spring …. nothing like a good celebration to look forward to.
Yowzer hope your birthday is going well.
Hope Wednesday is full of positives for everyone.

I should have said I might have to cancel as the insurance people might not accept me. I am sure people sicker than me go but I have yet to tell them I have asthma so this is another thing on top. I wont do anything knee jerk and will wait and see. The final deposit has to be paid in January and I wont have all my results until February when I have seen the cardiologist. Hopefully he wont find any thing else :):)

S-g ahhh those pesky insurance companies ….. very happy to take your money but not that happy to pay out any claim! Best plan, as you say, is to wait and see.
    I do have a few positives …..
Lovely Thai meal out last night. Not been to this restaurant for a while so it was really nice to visit again and the food seemed better!
When we were away in August I got a ‘taste’ for espresso. Bought myself two lovely expresso ‘mugs’ today which keep the coffee much warmer than ordinary mugs/cups.
Just cooked a huge amount of cauliflower and broccoli to make mash and freeze.
Just need one more…. bought some endamame bean today which will make a feast snack.
Hope everyone is well and positive.

Hi V,SUNNY,SUNSHINEGIRL,interesting to read all your news!
Im still in birthday mode and having a lovely week.
Made myself laugh this morning..picked up my little round mirror to put some make up on,stared blankly at it,confused for a second, then realised i was holding up a coaster not a mirror! 😄senior moments strike again….
Just very grateful this week for all the good things and happy times that have come my way over the last five days..always a happy week,Birthday Week, for DD and me,and we’re thankful for it ❤️❤️
Have a fab Friday everybody, and a groovy weekend – and keep smiling!
Ps SUNNY im chuckling about you using all the pans! My SIL is a good cook too, but he manages to use the entire contents of the cutlery and utensils drawers as well as the pans, each time he makes a meal! The results are always worth it,but Im glad they have a dishwasher! XX

Sunny I think I might like some of your curry recipes if you ever get the time to post them!
    Well as for me …..
    1. Cooked a huge pan of soup so my lockdown soup freezer is almost full.
    2. Got my slow cooker out today and as we speak a huge casserole is bubbling away and smelling really good, Must admit I use carrots, parsnips and butternut squash so all a bit carby but in winter I think we need something a little ‘warming’.
    3. Got through several loads of washing but more importantly I think I’ve finally worked out the new heat pump dryer. I open the door and the clothes feel damp but as they cool down they feel dry …. think I may have just got the hang over it!
    Have a great weekend.

Just want to say I have one positive today …. well I think it might be.
I left my amaryllis bulb to ‘sleep’ over the summer and yesterday brought it to life with a good drink. It’s growing!
I don’t have green fingers so if this does eventually flower then amaryllis are definitely for me ….. plant, water, flower, ignore for 9 months then water! Fingers crossed!
I do have another, my acers are still full of beautiful autumn coloured leaves. I’m guessing that it’s due to the unusually mild weather but anyway it’s good to still be able to enjoy leaves on the trees.

    My positives
*~ Proud of DD,been promoted again only 4 weeks after previous promotion, and been told can choose her own hours, which helps a lot as her health not great.
*~ Shes on her way home after a few days away on business and is coming here for dindins, due here in about an hour.
*~ Beau’s new kitchen almost finished. He loves to cook so will thoroughly enjoy it!
Hope everyone enjoying their weekend ! XXX

Yowser, congrats to your DD on her new promotion… lovely she will have flexible hours. Hope you enjoyed your dinner together.
My positives are not much changed from last time … Good weather, villa slowly progressing, etc. We had a lovely meal out last night, at a restaurant new to us … it’s been noted down for a return visit. Other than that, just enjoying the relaxed pace of things here, getting through plenty of books and laying out on my sundeck as much as possible while the weather holds.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, whatever that might contain. And please remember to share a positive or two if time permits.

Yowzer acers are ornamental trees or shrubs commonly know as Japanese Maples. The foliage, which changes with the seasons, often to really vibrant colours, is their main attribute, although there are some more ‘pastel’ varieties.
Sunny I don’t do anything with my acers although they are all planted in the ground. I have had them in pots as well but they don’t seem to do as well. We had one moved in the spring and after all the dry weather I think we may have lost it. It lost its leaves very early but I’m hoping that it might look better in the spring ….. will have to wait and see.
Amaryllis is something else that I do very little with …. maybe that’s the secret!
I have a couple of orchids, which I know you are great with Sunny, which I’m nurturing at the moment in the hope that they flower again.
    So to my positives ….
📚💻🗑 Organised myself this morning to sort out some paperwork. Concentrated on finances and realise I need to do a budget and only buy what we ‘actually’ need not what I ‘think’ we need without looking in the cupboards!
🧀🍫🥪 Had a really ‘hungry’ day yesterday. Don’t know why but I get these days occasionally when I’m just not satisfied by the food I’m eating so ‘graze’ all day. Anyway, today has been more controlled with soup for lunch and sea bass and cauliflower mash for dinner.
⚖️⚖️⚖️ Went through my journal this morning and realise I’ve been more or less the same weight for the last three years. I’m taking that as a positive because at least I’m great at maintaining!
    Sunny keep enjoying!
Yowzer, WOW your DD is doing so well you’re absolutely entitled to be a ‘proud mum’. Guess you’ll be checking out all the great food that comes out of Beau’s kitchen! Enjoy!

V, if you have been more or less the same weight for three years, I think you have well and truly cracked maintenance. That’s a definite win!!
Again, nothing much new to contribute here, but let’s see if I can post a positive or two ….
🍲made cottage pie for dinner last night, topping mine with a cauli and celeriac mash … very tasty and very filling. Couldn’t finish my individual portion.
🌞still warm enough here to get a couple of hours sun worshipping in, in the afternoons.
🙂OH is doing a great job of getting the roof terrace on the new villa tiled. 🤞🏻it should be watertight in the next couple of days.
Looking forward to a proper catch up with our neighbours here this evening. Both have been a bit poorly, so we haven’t had a chance to really get together until now.

Hope your week got off to a good start with some positives. Please share a couple with us here, if you have a moment to spare.

Oh V, that’s not so good …. but are you still less than when you started your BSD journey? I’m guessing yes, so you are still in a better place than before. And on the upside, you have the tools to do something about tipping the scales a little less if you want that, you just need to dust them off and make a start.

Well, today, feeling brighter now that I’ve ‘unloaded’ on the forums I do gave some positives.
🩺🩺 Eventually had an appointment in hospital today, 50 weeks after GP referral!
BUT, it was a really good consultation. It lasted 45 minutes and I saw both the registrar and the consultant. I can’t fault the NHS once you are seen! That’s the problem …. waiting times are horrifying!
🥗🧀 🥦 Just venting and writing down my ‘mindless issues’ on the weekly thread has given me renewed energy to ‘ carry on’.
    Hope you are all well.

Hi V, that is why I dont want to come back to the UK. On my latest medical problem it took 2 weeks to see a specialist in vascular disease and now have an appointment with the surgeon in less than 4 weeks. Not sure when I will get the surgery – assuming I dont have it when I go on 9th Dec but I am sure it will be in January or February.
As I have jumped onto this thread I guess I had better add some positives:

Going swimming tomorrow at our nearest indoor pool. I havent been before as it was due to open 3 weeks after everything closed down for covid.
Finished the decoration in the office room. But too small to fit the 2 single beds.
Bought a new desk for the office room. A smaller one which will give us more room. Amazing how much stuff we have thrown out – 17 years of shoving stuff into cupboards. That alone makes me feel lighter.

*~ Starting to see a few xmas trees and lights, its a bit early but very cheering…on way home from my sisters at 5 pm today it was so dark and gloomy and catching sight of twinkly lights really made me smile.
*~ Got some gift vouchers and book tokens for my bday,v much looking forward to a trip into town and deciding what to buy!
*~ An old friend surprised DD and I with money on our birthdays..to have an outing together..will really look forward to doing that.

Just a quicky ..on my way out to see my sister
Found these wise words from back in 2016,sadly i dont remember who wrote them, but it was a member on here..worth bearing in mind…
“Hi, I don’t think of it as self-sabotage — you are not your own worst enemy — it is a powerful biological system that drives us, combined with a lifetime of habits and food choices. Your body is frustrated that it doesn’t have the old flow of sugars and easily-digested carbs — even if all that was killing you. And your brain is frustrated that it’s old comfort system (eating sugar) isn’t available any more. Your choice to start this diet and struggle through the days is already changing your body and mind but it takes a bit of time for it all to catch up. Don’t despair and don’t think that you self-sabotaged — just start again and again and again — you are going to surprise yourself one day soon when those treats just look kind of boring and you prefer to wait for a healthy meal coming up.”

Oh gosh what an awful cold, wet, miserable day today..but i had a great day..
I counted up FIFTEEN good things but wont go into that much detail..will limit myself to mentioning only three..!
*~ My sister looked and seemed a lot better today. I took her a custard tart and scones, and she enjoyed tucking in,with a cuppa! Very often she doesnt have an appetite or is in too much pain or is wheezy so doesnt feel like food,,so i was happy to see her eating, and full of life today
*~ New bakery open, not good news for me really, but its where i bought the said tart and scones.
VERANO its where Rays was on Allerton Rd,now called Chatwins, and the cakes, pies etc looked so appetising!
V I know youre not happy with yr weight but you HAVE maintained for 3 years when you could have regained quite a bit,so i reckon you deserve a Chatwins treat!
*~ I have a new resolve about losing weight, sthing good often comes from bad. There was an enormous crash and when i investigated, the hanging rail on one part of my wardrobe had broken. Its the part where i keep clothes i can no longer squeeze into. I had forgotten half of them, got a nice surprise when i was picking them up from the wardrobe floor! but some of them are so lovely,it made me more determined to just get that weight off again!

Yowser, thank you for once again keeping our positive thread alive almost single handedly. I find it helpful to have the fitting of favourite garments a good goal too. There are a few thing on my wardrobe
which I know won’t fit if I gain more than a few pounds, so it helps to motivate me to keep some control.
SG, a good clear out of clutter is very therapeutic and a good exercise to periodically undertake. It’s something I planning to do once back in the UK, to make our third bedroom habitable for the festive season.
V, glad your hospital appointment went well. Hope the rest of the process won’t take too long.

Main positive from here is ……
👍🏻🙂 OH has completed the tiling on the roof terrace of the new villa and windows are due for installation next week, so we should have a watertight structure very soon.
That will do for me at the moment. It’s been so stressful to get as far as this, that I’m happy to leave that as my main positive for this time.
Have a great weekend everyone and please share a positive or two if you can.

    Hello.
I wrote a long post yesterday and then it disappeared into the ether!
    So here we go again…..
Yes s-g the French system seems to be far superior to ours when it comes to waiting times. Is it a free service or do you have to contribute?
Yowzer I don’t know Rays/Chatwins ….. then it is a ‘bakery’!!! OH just told me where it is. I do use the fish shop and green grocers on the same block though …. sorry not really as virtuous as I’m making myself sound!
I had a similar experience with a hanging rail about 18 months ago but ….. unlike you Yowzer I just took some clothes and put them on a portable rail! You’ve got the right idea and glad you’ve found a new ‘goal’.
    I do have a few positives …..
✂️👩🏻✂️ Hair cut and coloured yesterday so feeling much brighter.
🎧🎧🎧 Have taken out a new subscription to my meditation app at half price, Black Friday deal. Just two days of anti stress is making me so much calmer.
🥕🧅🍗 Casserole out of the freezer tonight with vegetables and cauli mash so a really easy hot meal on a nasty wet night….. no cooking … whoopee!
Have a good night and a good weekend.

So good to hear your new pad is almost watertight SUNNY! Must be exciting to see it coming together!
My day,and Im extremely grateful for it being such an easy smooth day,as so many of my days are..
*~ We fed ducks, geese, swans, pigeons, gulls in the park.
Lots of people and dogs enjoying the sunshine. One dog ran up to me to make friends. Her owner said,I cant believe thats just happened, she’s never ever run up to anyone before, shes usually very timid!🥰
*~ We have a wonderful postman. He knocked at mine this morning as he had no answer at my DDs house. A parcel and a letter for her. I thought that was really good personal service.
The letter was important and needed signing for,and she was so grateful it had arrived safely.
The parcel was very cheery….contained two late bday presents, one for each of us!
*~ Yesterday two books arrived for me from my nephew, and I picked up four from the library today,so ive got plenty to keep me going…goody goody!i do love getting stuck into a good book!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend folks!

Early for me, but as I was reading Yowser’s positives on email, thought I’d drop in with a few of my own … no time like the present as they say.
😄 made OH take a day off from working at the villa yesterday. Other than going to the market and doing a bit of grocery shopping with me, he just relaxed and watched (or dozed through🤭) some TV programmes of his choice. Really pleased he took some downtime and just chilled for the day.
🍽 last night’s dinner was a ‘using up’ exercise. Hate to waste food, so cobbled together some left overs to make a meal.
🥣 we’ve decided that today, we’ll have ‘dinner’ early afternoon, at the restaurant we tried for the first time last week, then just have a light snack this evening. Will be nice to swap things around for change.
🙂 GS has been feeling well enough to look at possible courses, which is a good indication that his mental health must be improving. Really pleased he’s able to start thinking about his next step.

Hope you are all having a pleasant weekend and will be sharing a positive or two with us soon.

🙂👍🏻friend in the UK has building work going on, which hasn’t been too adversely effected by the weather. 🤞🏻her new conservatory should be finished in the next week.
🌤 weather here still holding up well for November, some rain but mainly at night so far.

OK I shall join the positive party!
    1) Although my restart on BSD has sputtered out, I am not putting on any weight. So that is a sort of positive! I am just trying to be sensible until my head is in the right place to get going again.
    2) Looking forward to a trip to the UK next week – an early Christmas visit to see friends and family. After corona, it still feels a privilege/relief to be able to travel. Fingers crossed and touch wood!
    3) Really enjoying my singing at the moment, and we gave a lovely performance of the Messiah last week. Am still humming lots of the arias. It was a lovely way to – gently – start the run up to Christmas.
    4) No-one ran into the back of our car when it decided to go max 30mph on a busy road. Still feeling thankful.

Hugs to Yowzer and SunnyB in particular for keeping this thread going. There are lots of blessings to count.

Hi CARONL! Enjoy yr upcoming visit, you must be so excited! and thanks for the hugs! ❤️💕sending some back to you! xx
SUNNY hope you got some market bargains X
*~ Just a quiet day today at home, reading, but v grateful to be indoors as it was blustery, grey and gloomy outside!
*~ Nephew sent me two books, one by Dave Davies of the Kinks and one by Patti Smith, plus DD gave me a thick book of poems..one for every night of the year. Plus my latest library books,so I have a toppling pile of books beside my bed to dip into.
*~ I v much like having a poem to read each night before i go to sleep!🥰

Caronl, lovely to see you posting here. Enjoy your UK trip. Don’t panic too much about not being in the right headspace at the moment. It’s a tough time if year for that, just do the best you can for now and get back on track when you’re able.
Yowser, reading, chatting and Baileys … excellent!

    My positives ….
😄 decided to make an afternoon tea for our neighbours. Wanted to make scones, but seems it’s impossible to buy cookie cutters in Turkiye. OH very cleverly made me one from a piece of pipe … it works brilliantly!!!
🪟 villa windows are being installed tomorrow… yippee!
⛈ has rained all day today which has forced OH to take a whole day off, just relaxing … Happy to put up with the rain if it makes him take a day off.
🙂 our friend’s mum had successful heart surgery today, should be home tomorrow.

Hope you have all had a great weekend and that the week ahead will bring lots of good things your way.

Thought it was time I popped in to say ‘hello’ and an extra ‘hello’ to Caron …. oh how I wish I could sing!
I didn’t want to jinx things earlier but pleased to report we made it on holiday…. third time lucky. We’ve actually made it to the hotel. Didn’t start to look forward to the trip until the plane had taken off with us on it!
So to my positives …. blue skies, warm sunshine, lovely sunsets and longer days. It’s not dark here until around 6.15pm. The longer light days are just a blessing for me.
Plus I’m managing to meditate everyday. What more could a girl want!
Hope you are all well and keeping positive.

VERANO youre in the best place..its cold, damp and grey today here in Lpool!
    Positives here tho..
*~ I succumbed to a hot chocolate today to offset the gloom and tbh it was well worth the cals and carbs..so creamy and smooth …and was good to chat with the really nice young mum who cooks in a local health shop and sells coffees and hot chocs
*~ Enjoyed browsing in local florists who also sells interesting Christmassy bits and bobs. It was a joy to feast our eyes on all the beautiful flowers, especially the gorgeous Christmas wreaths
*~ Postman knocked with a couple of parcels..just small Christmas gifts for the little ones of family and friends, but i love getting parcels in the post. Also received my first christmas card today!

Happy 1st of December my friends … the Christmas countdown starts here!!!
🌃 last evening was so lovely and mild, we sat outside to eat dinner! 😑 by contrast it’s tipping down with rain this morning and looks like it’s set in for the day… my positive from that, is OH has to take today off!
🙂🎁 got three Christmas presents ticked off my list and ideas noted down for three others. Have also recruited GS to help me with Christmas decs when I get home, so the festive season is feeling a little less daunting.
Think that’s it for positives right now. We’re on our last few days here in Turkiye, packing begins today and I’m starting to look forward to being home again, seeing family etc.
Please share your positives and/or what you are looking forward to.

Yeh the Christmas Countdown has begun! 🥳Happy December everybody!. 🥳
Maybe we should take a little time to look back and reflect on the 11 months just gone – and gone so fast! – before we look ahead to the upcoming festivities and holidays, and then onto the new chapter of 2023 and all of the adventures to come. I think I can feel one big last December declutter coming on! 🙂🙃 xx

    Great idea Yowzer.
I might have to ponder for a while as at the moment reflecting on 2022 isn’t throwing up much in the way of positives!
    Take card everyone .

Hi all! Just one positive for me this Sunday
*~ Went to see an old schoolfriend yesterday who’s had a stroke leading to dementia. Makes me realise just how lucky I am. Yes I have my health problems, but I can still get around, and although I have senior moments,my mind is still clear.
Puts my weight worries into perspective too as my friend is now very frail and thin due to her poor health- not the nicest way to lose weight is it. So count yr blessings folks – we are fortunate in so many ways xx

We’ve been having a bit of a reflect on events of 2022, Yowser, it’s been a busy year for us and happily, with lots of high spots. Counting ourselves very lucky indeed.
V, hope you have had/are having a good vacation, are you back home yet?
So, as our current visit to Turkiye is now pretty much finished, I can offer up a few positives before we head homeward ….
😄 had a wonderful evening with friends last night, haven’t seen them since the end of last year, so was a lovely catch up, with lots of laughs.
🪟 we have windows in the villa!!! Feels like a bit of a milestone and it means we have a water tight structure to shut up for the winter.
🛩 packing is almost complete, fridge has been sorted and there are just a couple of small chores left to do tomorrow before we leave. Rarely have we been so organised at the end of a visit here …. have to say it’s really nice not to be stressing about whatelse needs sorting!

Will be back in the UK on Tuesday, stay at the airport hotel tomorrow night, to make things easier on Tuesday morning, so am signing off now to snuggle down for my last sleep in the apartment for this trip… night, night folks.
