    Hi,
I’m just starting this having ballooned over the last 20 years, with small periods of weight loss, were put back on
I need to loss 45 kg/100 lb, ideally for my birthday next April, but setting interim “ targets”. This is almost half of what I weigh just now ( and will still put me overweight for my height, but I know it will be allot better than now !)
I’ve a cruise in 12 weeks, Do you think by sticking to the healthy eating I could loose about 19kg/42 lb? So around 3 stone.
I’ve joined a gym and plan to do an hour’s swim each day to, along with increased walking.
I’m over 50 now and stroke and heart disease run in my family and I’m scared….
    Hints and tips welcome xx

Hi Happy Girl, well done for making a start with this way of eating. I am assuming you are going to do 12 weeks of 800 calories low carbs. No one can guarantee the amount of weight you lose but if you really stick to it you will definitely lose weight – possible more than a stone considering your current weight, maybe even more.

You will need help along the way, make mistakes and sometimes want to give up. That is what this group is here for. No question is too silly, no mistake cannot be overcome. Let us know which book you are following and shout out if you have any questions.

Tips, drink plenty of water, avoid white carbs like potatoes, bread, breakfast cereals, rice, pasta and sugar of any kind. BTW all carbs turn to sugar in the blood stream, although you are not diabetic it is still important to get your body used to not having carbs. Not only does it hold fluid, cause weight gain but the are addictive. Do not eat low fat foods like yoghurts as they are full of starches to make up for the texture lost when they take out the fat, go for full fat Greek style plain yoghurts and add your own flavours like some berries. Try to have a none carb breakfast like boiled eggs, scrambled eggs – eggs can be your friend so don’t worry about cholesterol, it is no longer believed to be true that eggs increase it. Don’t make life too complicated by cooking special meals (you don’t mention family members), cook what everyone else has but cut out your carb portion and increase your veggies.

There are so many more things to say but you will become overwhelmed so just go for it and do your best. Log onto a calorie and carb counter like MyFitnessPal.com to help you calculate. If you calculate BEFORE eating you can avoid mistakes you didn’t think you were making.

Good luck and keep in touch.

    Thank you sunshine-girl
It’s just me and my husband most of the time. Bought the fast 800 recipe book and currently going through it with a post it pad, as my husband took early retirement and is the one the cooks the most.
I’m from Scotland so lovely fresh tap water, which I like chilled. We have just done a quick shop and stocked up on more veggies, but I think the recipe and portion sizes are going to be key. Plan is to do 3 recipes per day to 800 from now to my holiday, then when I get back, start again to Christmas, the start again in the new year and hopefully for my bday in April I will be at what I’d like to be my target weight.
My husband is going to do some of it. We both normally eat the same but he never puts on weight- which isn’t fair!!!!

Thanks for your help and support

Great plan, it really helps to be organised. If you are doing 3 recipes a day try using the suggested menus at the back of the book just to give you ideas and you can switch around for things you don’t like or can’t get. For example, and I must go back to doing this myself as I am in a bit of a rut – on one day (in the BSD book) it says sardine dip and I hate sardines so I make a tuna version. There are always ways around that don’t mess up the diet.

Good luck, and can I say, health-wise your husband will probably benefit in other ways that losing weight. My husband is 6’1″ and weight around 78kgs (not much more than me at 5 feet tall) and he has avoided being put on statins as his cholesterol started to creep up and he now rarely eats carbs with his main meal as he just doesn’t fancy them.

Hey, doing well, on all going well I will have lost 7lb, so half a stone by tomorrow
Had a few hiccups, so as per school report card – can do better 😂
Husband has been doing it to, and enjoying it – although the likes of this morning we had poached eggs, mushrooms and spinach, he had toast as well, which I resisted
Been swimming a few times this week to keep toning as the pounds come off
Couple of girls as work borrowed recipe book to, so spreading the word.
Feeling confident about doing this as recipes are so good xx
