Hi all, no need to start posting until Saturday, just wanted to make a head start. Saturday will be my day to see if I have reached the first part of my current goals – to lose the cruise weight by the end of May.

    Thank you s-g.

I’ll be popping in on Tuesday but dread to think what the ‘number’ might be!

Sorrento tomorrow then Rome overnight before we fly home on Sunday.

Having a wonderful time so the ‘number’ will be what it will be and I’ll deal with it, when I get back, as I always do, straight back on plan!

    Have a good weekend,

Hi everyone, welcome to Joyous June. Hope you are all going to join us.

I just didn’t quite reach my goal of 4lbs off for May but did 3.5lbs. Then blown it by going out for lunch today but not bothered as I am trying to just live my life. The only carb was a small bread roll and the dessert which was merignue. I have another meal out on Monday and then I will be back on plan although I won’t be eating tonight and will still be on plan Sunday.

Happy holidays to Margaret, Verano and Wendy. Hope you are all having a great time. It is still bloody raining here. Where is summer.

    Hi!

Just popping in with my weight gain today after 18 days away …. 4.6lbs!

Actually given my ‘gay abandon’ I’m really delighted. Slightly sad thing is that carbs don’t make me feel ‘unwell’, ‘lethargic’ or any other symptoms that others report when eating carbs after a long time without.

I have really enjoyed baguette slices with blue cheese, wonderful garlic roast new potatoes in Italy, a small angel hair pasta dish, the odd dessert, well maybe more than the odd one! Despite everything my BS had been raised but not very much. It’s nice to know that after 7 years following this WOL I can have the odd dessert etc and my BG won’t shoot through the roof. I don’t feel ‘addicted’ to sugar again either.

After my recent experiences I feel very much that I’m in control. How can you be in Italy and not have a real tiramisu?? But, you know it wasn’t that sweet so it didn’t make me ’crave’ sweetness. In fact we had to share one between us as it was so rich.

I think this trip for me was just one where I was just thankfull that we actually made it after having to cancel two previous trips. OH enjoyed the whole thing and we are now ‘planning’ a future trip!

So from this end everything looks ‘rosy’.

Hope everyone is well and willing to ‘jump joyously’ into June.

We have to ‘seize the day’ as it will never be repeated!

Hi all I have to report a gain of just over one pound from my meal out on Saturday and then last nights meal at the quiz night. To be honest it is more likely the alcohol because there wasn’t a lot of carbs in the meal except a bit of bread and a dessert. Last night there was mash on my beef parmentier (French cottage pie) and a couple of bits of baguette. BTW Verano, baguettes are healthier than standard white bread as they contain only 3 ingredients if made traditionally flour, yeast, salt and water (not really an ingredient). No preservatives are used which is why baguettes are rock hard by the end of the day.

Glad you gaily abandoned yourself V, what else are holidays for if not indulgence. I think your weight gain is about the same as mine was on the cruise.

Well, back on it today and looking for a 2lbs loss before I see the doctor next week. Should be possible as most of the gain will be fluid. The weather is warmed up and we are having around 26 degrees so just enjoy the rest of the week.

S-g good to see that you are ‘socialising’! What’s one pound between friends? You say holidays are for ‘indulgence’ but ‘life’ is also for ‘living’

Is your weight still lower than last time you saw Dr Gorgeous? I’ve so no problem and if not you’ve been on a cruise!

Pleased to hear about baguettes. I only had two or three small slices 1/2 “ by 3 “ at a time. Always wondered why they went stale so quickly!

Lovely to get back to ‘normal’ healthy eating today. I’ve started using the HAVA app again. It’s an offshoot of Dietdoctor. I tried it earlier in the year but just couldn’t get my head around it because it seems to be geared toward low fat. Anyway, I just thought it was a good way to get back to weighing and measuring food for a few weeks.

Onwards… jumping joyously throughout the month.

Lovely to read everyone’s posts and how positive you sound…glad each holiday has been enjoyed and relaxing.
We were in Bath last week and it was beautiful! Am afraid I gave in too easily and ate food I know I should avoid but hey ho. I know am like a resounding drum but one day I know my brain will catch on , so until then I am who I am…and am trying. This week my goal is to change my breakfast food. I really enjoy my gluten free cornflakes but they are carby and I should really try to eat eggs or yoghurt with berries!

Hi all, trying hard to reach another goal. Verano, I now weigh 1kg more than when I last saw the doctor – hence looking for a 2lb loss before next Tuesday.

A bit of bad news but not serious except to me. I went out on Monday and decided to wear a very expensive 24 carat gold necklace. I was going to wear a cheap one but the chain was tangled and we were running late. When I got to the restaurant it had gone. Can only have been on my driveway or in the car as I noticed as I was stepping out of the car. I still looked all around and under the car. Got home, searched the drive and the car and no sign of it. I am totally useless with jewellery which is why I have some cheap stuff but I have had this necklace for 52 years – bought by hubby no. one for our wedding. So I am absolutely gutted. No suggestions needed as we have done everything we can to find it, even emailed the restaurant in case it fell off as I got out and someone has handed it in. But I think it is lost.

On the same note, I bought some cheap but pretty earrings for the cruise. Took them out of the box they came in to add to my packing and never seen them again. I am cursed when it comes to jewellery. At least the earrings only cost around €15.

    Oh well, thats life.

Although I won’t be joining in much this month, thought I’d just check in.
SG, glad you had a wonderful holiday and have been enjoying some social activities too. I’m sure you will soon dump any gains over the coming week.
Verano, so pleased your vacation was a huge success and there’s to be more travel plans for you in the future. It sounds like your few indulgences haven’t impacted too much.
Smp, even making small changes will help and once they become a habit, you can tackle the next thing. Just keep going …. your brain will get with the program eventually 🤣.

At this point, nearly 6wks into our trip, I am up by 7lb, but that gain seems to be stable … thankfully! Given that indulgences have been many, although mainly of an alcoholic nature, I’m okay with my current situation. I know once I am again in my normal routine, that gain should be reasonably easy to deal with.

Hope we’ll all have a joyous June … look forward to reading more posts soon.

Hi all, I have got over losing my precious necklace and just accept that it has gone. Thinking about it, it never brought me joy because I was so afraid of losing it so I very rarely wore it. It was just a THING, and not important.

In the spirit of not worrying about things we have booked another cruise for next year. The money is less important than the experiences we will have. Although that is easy to say when we can afford it.

I have managed to lose one pound of the 2 needed to reach my current goal for next week. I will be fasting tonight as nurse is coming in the morning to take blood so won’t be eating too much. Food today was 2 boiled eggs with one Ryvita (buttered), one Purition Almond milk shake due to getting back from shopping late and couldn’t be bothered to find something to eat and tonight I am doing a chicken stirfry with all natural ingredients.

Nearly the end of the week and the weather is getting good at 28 degrees but the pool is still around 22. Might have attempted a swim but the farmer is outside with his tractor making a noise and stirring up loads of dust.

Hi everyone, I am still losing slowly….. But losing. I am waiting for my blood results as nurse was here this morning. Not expecting them to be great as the cruise will have had some impact.

Margaret, I hope France was good for you. It is an important lesson to learn that Covid is still around. We will have a disinfection base outside shops and supermarkets and still have to wear masks in certain medical situations i.e. hospital visits.

1960 I think I have the answer to all your tedious food chores. When you want to make a meal but are stuck for ideas log onto myfridgefood.com and tell it what you have in the fridge/freezer and it will give you a list of recipes. You can do it say, before you shop and thinking chicken is on special and you fancy some brocolli or beans or whatever and voila, you have recipes. I tried it out last night for you. I put in avocado, halloumi cheese, egg and bacon and it came up with around 6 recipes. I think you are better to register with them to get more food choices as it is a tick box and you can probably build on the different foods as time goes on. Have fun 🙂

Still no new on Michael, our prayers are with him and Claire and the rest of the family. Hoping for a happy outcome.

S-g sorry about your necklace but as you say it never brought you joy so no real loss, just monetary! Enjoy without it. Good to hear you are losing and if you get down to your previous weight, great, and if not you are so close so don’t sweat it!

1960 glad you enjoyed Bath. I really think your head has to be in the right place before you can follow any plan. Don’t stress, when the time is right you will just be able to follow whichever plan works for you.

Margaret sorry you have come back with unwanted baggage but hope you enjoyed your trip anyway.

So I’m just 0.4lbs off my pre-cruise weight which after just 4 days is really amazing. Must admit I have been really strict so it works when you follow the plan!

PS s-g great to hear you have booked another cruise Good for you!

Thinking about Michael and his family and truly hoping the news will be good.

Hello again & catching up reading your posts. Sorry to hear about your lost necklace S-G & I sympathise because when we were burgled my favourite jewellery was stolen with a special ring bought with money given to me by my husbands great grandfather to welcome me to the family & he told to buy myself something nice to remember him by.
Well I braved the scales this morning & have gained 6.25 lbs! I am hoping some of that is carby fluid through wine with my meals. Unfortunately there was no food choice on the boat & few vegetables served so I also ate bread to add to some rather frugal offerings. Oh well back to the low carb eating with a vengeance from now on. My husband & I will be going to stay in a Devon cottage for a fortnight next month so more control with self catering apart from some meals out & about. My next chance to dress up for dinner will be my 50th wedding anniversary weekend in Gibraltar at the beginning of August when I hope I will be slimmer 🤞
My husband is now feeling fine but still strongly testing Covid positive whilst I have a cough but otherwise now feel fine & testing negative which I find really weird.
We weren’t able to do much sightseeing on the cruise but I loved Honfleur & wish I had bought some Calvados whilst there!! The Duty Free shops didn’t sell it or Armagnac which as a brandy drinker I was very disappointed about. There were hundreds of gins & whiskies from all over the world on offer but not a selection of cognac!! I’m obviously very unfashionable preferring brandy 🤔😂. We had a coach tour of Paris which looks a mess with many road closures & stands being built for the Olympic Games so we weren’t able to see many of the usual sights. Our Parisien guide was very upset about it all fearing it wouldn’t return to as it was before all the Olympic prep & renovation. I must admit on our return my husband and I don’t really feel as though we have really visited France not being able to eat away from the boat or to just wander around apart from Honfleur when we had coffee in a delightful tea shop filled with mismatched fine china & delicious homemade biscuits & cakes & quaint mismatched antique chairs. It was all very charming with a display of a Laura Ashley china 😀.
I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend & my husband will spend an enjoyable afternoon watching rugby. I’m still ploughing through the holiday washing 😂

Hi all, sorry your holiday was a disappointment. Come and stay with me for a week and I will show you the real France – or come and cat sit when we go away next. Unfortunately, Paris is in the throws of preparing for the Olympics. I remember when we went to Manilla and the Pope was due to visit the next day – miles and miles of police and road closures. Then St Petersburg the day before the 8th of May celebrations so most things were closed for preparation. Our next problem is going to be arriving in Rome on Easter Sunday – wonder how that one will go. But there have been good disruptions like Elche on Palm Sunday and all the processions.

Very pleased that I have now only half a pound to get down to my pre-cruise weight and pre-doctors visit. Which, by the way, I have my blood results and my Hb1Ac is 6.4 (was 6.1) and I don’t think that is a bad result. Cholesterol is 3.0 it was 2.8 and my triglycerides are well below being a problem.

Still no news on Michael but he was seen in the town. No use speculating just waiting for news.

I have always hugely respected the work that Micheal Mosley has done having watched most of his tv programmes & documentary researches & have bought many of his books. I will very much miss his presence on tv because he was so likeable & very easy to listen to & continue to follow his advice.🙁

Hello everyone. I have held off making comment in the hope that Michael would be found and the body not his. Unfortunately, his wife, Clare, has identified him. It appears there was no foul play and he collapsed along the side of a fence near a bar. There will be an autopsy.

That said I cannot say how very sad and full of tears I am. He was not just someone we heard of on TV. I am sure to all of us here and those following the diet for medical reasons, he was a hero. When I was crying at night because my BG was seriously high and my doctor had given up hope of me ever understanding my own condition – yet still advising carbs with every meal. When things were bleak and I lost the feelings in my toes and searched the internet to be face with snakeoil salesmen and magic pills from a secret island where no-one gets diabetes, only to find it was a sales ploy. Suddenly I heard about Dr Mosley, Michael to us so familiar was he to all of us. He gave me hope, he taught me how to look after myself and my condition and without a word of exaggeration, he saved my life.

God bless you Michael, I hope this site will continue and your legacy will be the thousands of people you have helped.

Agree with all sentiments already expressed at the death of Michael. The lose is hard enough for us to fathom …. or even begin to understand how this could happen, but it must be so much more so, for his grieving family and friends. My heart goes out to them.

I am so grateful that I heard about Michael’s work and followed his advice on eating healthy. It was such a revelation and most definitely changed my life for the better … and I’m confident I’m not the only person who can say that.

Deepest condolences to Claire, the Mosely family and friends. May they find comfort in their fondest memories of a wonderful man.

At this point it seems too early to be discussing trivial things like whether I lost or gained, whether I did any exercise. So I will leave it for a few days to let things sink in. Although, if anyone wants to continue their journey and discuss their diet please do so.

Hi everyone, I think we need to give our thanks to Michael and show how much he meant to us by continuing to follow his teachings. One consolation is that his time on earth gave hope and health to so many people and he did so much good. This is carrying on in this thread and on this site.

My visit to my doctor today was successful. He was happy with the small rise in BG especially when I said I had been on a cruise and even more surprised that my weight is exactly the same as at my last visit. So I have reached my 4lb goal which was my cruise weight gain. So starting from that base I am looking forward to having family visit in 6 and half weeks and have set myself a target of losing 2kgs. I hope this is easily achieveable as the pool is just about ready and I have been in once before the rain came back and dropped the temperature back down. Another few days of sunshine and I will be back in.

My daughter and her husband did the Fast800 when it was on the TV and I think it was something like Lose a Stone in 21 days. They managed to do it for their wedding but have slackened off. On reading the sad news they have decided to do it again as a healthy thank you to Michael. We all have different ways of dealing with sadness or with finding motivation and I hope they manage. They are doing a 6 week plan before coming here at the end of July.

How are you all doing, hope you are feeling renewed motivation. Have a good week.

Well done s-g! I’m sure you’ll manage 2kg in the next 6 weeks. I agree with your sentiments and yes we should carry on following his teachings.

Well my first week home has been quite astonishing. I’ve been ‘weighing and recording’ for the first time in years and have lost my 4.4lb cruise gain plus a further 1.4lbs! I’m really astonished. Obviously I don’t expect this to happen again but I think I know what I have to do … ‘weigh and record’ … rather than ‘guesstimate’ !

    Have a good week.

Yes heartfelt thanks to Michael Mosley to all he did teaching us all how to take better control of our own health & I do hope this site continues as an ongoing positive memorial to him.
I am going to reread the BSD book & return to sticking much more closely to his guidance as my personal tribute to him. I have of late, apart from on the cruise, been rather casually varying my calorie intake although trying to stay low carb. At the moment I have been spending lots of pennies including through the night which is irritating & now have a cough, sore throat & am sneezing . It’s not Covid because I test negative but my husband is still testing positive but feels fine. I expect that I’m just losing carb fluid & will be pleased when my body gets back to normal! I hope to see weight loss on Saturday & fasted on Monday. My right knee is very sore at the moment & I’m not easily walking, hobbling describes it best so I’m not very cheerful at the moment. I have ironing & bed linen to wash so keeping busy whilst isolating at home. I have bought myself a new dress which is slightly snug so I have ordered the next size to try before returning it because I do hope that I will be slimmer by the end of July.
Well done everyone having lost your regained holiday weight 👏👏⭐️
I’m back to recording what I’m eating & planning meals from my many Michael Mosleys cookery books.

Thanks S-G, you’ve said it just right…..I had re-started with determination my diet a week ago, just before news that MM was missing…..and this news certainly highlighted in my mind just how important his teachings are and reminded me how much they have done for me previously (and when I say restarted the ‘diet’ I mean the low cal BSD type of phase…..when I get to maintenance, I switch back to calling it a WOE, and even when I’ve not been fully following the plan, I have still kept elements of it, and my blood sugars have never returned to my pre-diabetic levels of 2020 before doing BSD the 1st time)…..anyhow, I’ve been really good and I’ve lost 6 lbs, going through what I call the ‘fat crying’ phase where all the water comes out😅…..I expect I didn’t make that up, may well have heard it somewhere on here, or maybe a joke? Anyhow, I’m feeling good, some of my fitbit stats are already improving, like decreased HR etc…..and less hungry/ reduced cravings etc….just got to keep it up now- and feeling like I am supporting keeping Michael’s legacy going is also an extra driver….he’s helping people even after death. What a man. I’m also trying to book a summer hol to France and it would be INCREDIBLY HELPFUL if I can get into any of my pairs of shorts and also a swimsuit!!
Much love and hugs in solidarity

Hi everyone .I have been back from Greece for a few days but needing a bit of time to adjust and also grieve for the tragic loss we all feel . Greece was such a magical time, the wedding, the stunning location, the huge , joyful family gathering , meeting my grandson again, it was just perfect .So sad that Greece was also the scene of such tragedy and I didn’t feel I could even listen to the podcasts or check the Instagram posts as it felt too painful.
I have learned so much from Michael and the wealth of knowledge I gained from him was the starting point, moving on to reading about keto, fasting etc and I am so much healthier as a result . I will be forever grateful .

I have gained a couple of kilos , mainly due to consumption of grains and legumes I think as my sister and niece are veggie and vegan.Lots of Greek salads but also the occasional spanakopita which seems to be standard fast food .I steered clear of the souvlaki though . It was generally pretty healthy fare but more carb heavy than I would choose .That’s ok . I also found Greek Mountain Tea on the market which is a delicate , floral infusion a bit like camomile with many apparent health benefits .

I have a bit of a break now before we go to Ile de Ré for a few days at the end of the month before the school holidays begin ! Then my family have booked to come here in August so I will be busy as there are likely to be 20 plus of us ! My son and partner are coming from Australia for a month to meet the French side of the family so I can look forward to more chuckles and cuddles !

I am back to my yoga and aquagym sessions and the farm shop close by is well stocked with luscious salds, courgettes, green beans , parsley and basil to enjoy with the first tomatoes : my simple pleasures .

I hope everyone is coping and doing their best to stay on track . I have been catching up on the thread and reading about SG’s lost necklace .I can commiserate as at one point in Greece I thought I had lost my pouch containing all my earrings. Now I must stress that none of these have any value but they are chosen to match my outfits…It’ s a weird thing of mine ! Anyway I was resigned to them being left /lost amongst all the family luggage we carted everywhere on taxi boats and I accepted that someone else may get some joy from them….but they turned up ,in a place I thought I had already searched !

We also brought back 2 litres of a special olive oil my brother in law recommended to us , just for seasoning and not for cooking . Greek oregano too .

So I am back folks, back to a surprisingly cool June in France but looking forward to happy summer days .Thanks SG for setting up the new thread and for keeping everyone motivated and inspired .Take care everyone

My weight is just the same as last reported but not in any hurry and still keeping to plan, although I did have a quarter of a baguette at lunch BECAUSE I FELT LIKE IT 🙂 What better reason. But did my glucose goddess trick and ate lettuce and cucumber and avocado first to line my stomach.

Went out yesterday and bought a mascerator toilet for the bathroom but have to get rid of the double sink unit to make space so have bought a sleek modern but in an old fashioned style single unit set and tall cupboard for the towels. The plumber has already been to give us a quote and says it is an easy job. Very happy with his quote which arrived about an hour after his visit. I wanted a second quote from our usual macon (builder etc) who does plumbing but waiting for hubby to make contact – it may take some time 🙂 I find it so easy to just pick up the phone, know what I want to say and worry about what I don’t understand when the time comes. Just got stuck when he asked about disposing of the old units but soon worked it out and he said he would get rid of it and sinks. I have tried selling things on Facebook but people tend to waste your time and for the sake of 30 or 40 euros we would get for them I’d rather not have the hassle.

Hope you are all sticking with us and feeling better about things. Life is full of ups and downs and we have to make the most of the good things or even the mundane. Have a good rest of the week / weekend.

Welcome back Wendy! Sounds like you had a very busy time and have another one soon to come … great, that’s what life’s all about.

S-g glad you enjoyed the baguette that’s life, there for the living and not for deprivation every step of the way.

Well second week home for me and still motivated even more so because we’ve booked a trip to Portugal to see our son and family in three weeks. Hoping for 2lb a week. Will do my best.

    Hope everyone is well.

Verano, I think as most of us find, that ‘treat’ doesn’t have quite the same appeal when you are used to low carb. This was not even a real baguette but one of those part baked from the freezer shop. Trying to clear out my freezer for the family coming over when I will be stocking with burgers, pizzas and fish fingers (on offer this week) 🙂

Daughter is vegan and I will be trying to eat what she eats as we cook together. Then there are 4 kids with picky tastes. Really looking forward to it.

Just tried paella with cauli rice instead of rice….pretty good, to be fair…..magic, isn’t it, that the similar texture fools you into thinking it’s proper rice?!
    Love to all xxxx

Hi all, well done Margaret on losing most of the holiday weight. Yes, a lot of it is fluid but you still have to put in the effort to get rid of it. Fortunately, for myself, I know this diet never lets me down.

I had a really bad hypo last night. Just sat watching TV and the picture started jumping around and going in and out of focus then I tried to stand up and my legs were like jelly. Hubby brought my testing kit over and it was 3.5 which is one of the lowest ever. I was probably just about to go unconscious but I had a Werthers Original (not sugar free) which I keep in. Did nothing, had another, again not much improvement up to 45. Hubby made me a cheese sandwich, then I had a chocolate and then a glass of juice. Finally I had an emergency glucose sachet which maybe I should have used first. It took me 2 hours to get my BG up to 79. He kept saying ‘am I going to have to get you to hospital’ and getting really cross with me but I know it is just fear on his part. There should have been nothing to cause it but when I think about it, that half a baguette could have given me sugar rush and then I had a swim for 30 mins which could have coincided with a sugar drop (caused by the bread), but then I had a good meal of chicken breast stuffed with mozzerella and wrapped in parma ham with a pepper and tomato sauce and broccoli. Often there is no accounting for it but I will reduce my insulin yet again.

Anyway, as a consequence my weight is up 1kg with all the sugar. It will go. I wont be swimming for a few days as the forecast is for rain.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

S-g so sorry to hear about your hypo but glad you rode the waves! Maybe on the good side is that you can reduce your insulin which has to be a positive? Anyway hope you don’t suffer another hypo.
