Think I’m going to be walking like a robot today.. My poor calves! But we had a great day in London; it’s a great city to walk around on a sunny day (Northern line closure helped our cause!) now I’m back in the office for a few days, need to get creative with the steps!!
-
Frog – that’s still better than 99% of my days step counts lol. It’s amazing what duelling Janey does to a person… 😈
We met while he was down on a weekend golfing trip. Had an 18 month long distance relationship, during which time we saw each other most weekends and spent an absolute fortune on mobile phone top ups (remember how expensive they were at the start?) and he was looking for work here. When he found a job, he moved here 😊 Never looked back since 😊
Glad you had a good time, that was an epic day’s stepping, I bet your UP app was exceptionally patronising and kiss-assy to you afterwards?
-
Well that was shocking weekend. Went for a swim on Saturday (did a mile), then had to go and rescue a mate of mine who left his wallet and car keys on the plane he caught from Denmark. His car is still stranded in Luton airport! His fault for falling asleep on the plane and waking up after it had taxied to the arrivals! I hate people that can stay asleep when the plane lands.
Anyway, we OBVIOUSLY went for a couple of beers when we got back, which turned into 4 pints and a bottle of wine (each!). Needless to say my hangover was humongous yesterday. No rest for the wicked though, had to be out of the house by 9 to go skiing in the snow dome with the family. Turns out my new bright blue sallopettes are now very loose on me.. Good part is my wife and kids are becoming really good and skiing is probably the best hangover cure in existence.
After that, we went to Nandos. Made some good choices though (but probably ate 1000 calories in one sitting, lol). Had hallumi and humus with pitta starter then double chicken breast pitta with super grain salad (which was amazing) and coleslaw washed down with water.
Best bit is, weighed myself this morning and I’m still sub 90kg! 89.9 to be precise.
Would like to lose another kg or so this week before I go on holiday. And I know if I make good choices on holiday I’ll continue to lose whilst I’m away too.
-
Yay Timmy on the <90kg maintenance in spite of laddish bad behaviour! I was in London yesterday, drinking cocktails and buying food in Camden market.. so my intake was nothing to be proud of. BUT I walked! And I figure that counts for something..
Now, Easiyo Timmy…. WTF?? It tastes YUCK! I just forced some down with fruit this morning but it’s like coffee creamer 🙁 PLUS it made me feel sick after so the ‘healthy’ cultures that disagree with me must be in the baby milk powder. I fear this may be added to the Appendix of the ‘WTDW’ recipe book, followed by a listing on Ebay shortly thereafter. Did you attempt to make yoghurt the old fashioned way (Lucky – STOP), i.e with milk, in the end??
-
Hi Lucky – I don’t mind if its above 7 or 8k – there’s the golden rule of 10k that I prefer to get to, and its often more – it’s just really slobby sit at home and not get much over 2k that make me feel bad!
But Janey’s active day did sound epic.
I did a longish walk last weekend – about 8 miles, and part of it crossed with the Capital Ring Walk (78 miles around London, mostly parks and rural bits I think, the bits I crossed last weekend were great), It’s split into 15 sections, but I’m fairly confident that I could do it in five days – four would be a challenge. I WILL start soon!
I was really tired and achey last weekend, but I regularly used to walk 12-14 miles, so I’d really like to get back to that level of fitness – or improve on it, I was quite overweight then.
The outdoorsy jacket that I used to wear then and had long been relegated to the “too tight” area of the wardrobe fitted again a few weeks ago, and was almost verging on baggy – will be interesting to see how big it is when the weather gets cooler again.Have a good day
-
Hi Janey – glad you had a great day yesterday – the “ride London” thing was screwing up loads of roads and buses too.
Laughed at the yogurt – sorry such a disappointment! I bought a huge kilo tub in a supermarket (proper FF Greek yogurt, not easyo) for £1 or £1.20 – doesn’t strike me as something it’s worth investing time, space and money in making myself – especially if it’s as yummy as you’ve found it!
Enjoy the rest back in the office -
Hi Janey, you are a fussy madam aren’t you!? I thought the packet easiyo was quite nice! Did you cool it in the fridge after you had made it for 8 hours? Also, how long did you leave it to “yog” for? The longer you leave it the more tangy it gets.
I have made yoghurt the old fashion way (oohh errr). I made my second batch last night and I think it’s lovely.
This is how I made it. Filled the container half full with full fat UHT milk. Added a heaped tablespoon of milk power (apparently this makes it creamier) put the lid on and shook vigorously until the milk powder dissolved. I then added 2-3 tablespoons of the easiyo yoghurt from my last batch and stirred that in. Topped it up with UHT to the line, then put it in the magic container with hot water just as you would with the powered stuff.
-
Well done on maintaining your weight loss, Timmy 🙂 How the hell do you leave your car keys and your wallet on a plane? Asleep or not, probably the two most important things you carry with you…
‘skiing is probably the best hangover cure in existence’ – I doubt I’m the only person ready that statement that is thinking – ‘I’ll take your word for it’.
Nando’s. Mmmmmmmmm.
Frog – I don’t come close to that most days! And as for the 10,000 recommended daily, I never realised before buying a proper pedometer how hard that actually was to do if you don’t have any structured exercise built in to your day, or a walk to work or something! I always credited myself with ok-ish movement as I’m an always on the go housewife (I am! Despite being omnipresent hahaha) but it’s actually not as great as I thought. I’ve roughly worked out that I take 1000 steps for every ten minute walk. As I said to him yesterday, that’s one hour and forty minutes of walking. DAILY! I’d love to be able to do it daily. It’s going to take some dedication though.
We have something similar around the island, the coastal path, I’m itching to do it. It’s in segments too, can’t think offhand how many, and it’s around 120 miles all in all. That’s languishing on my ’40 before 40′ list too. You might find you need a new coat! And it will be well earned 🙂 Have a good day too 🙂Janey, the thought didn’t cross my mind!

Hi Lucky
as you’ll have gathered from my freezer post yesterday, I don’t really fall into the “on the go” category when it comes to around the home!
I just had pink porridge – I found some blackberries in the freezer, not sure how many years they’d been in there, but they tasted OK – very tart, so I added some stevia.
I haven’t eaten porridge for weeks – when I started BSD, weighing out 30g of oats it felt like a tiny portion, but seemed huge this morning. I’ll use 25g next time. -
Hahahahaha! Understood Frog 😉
Oooh you saying pink porridge now, do you know what I had a craving for completely out of the blue a few days ago? Semolina with jam, like I used to have in primary school. The jam was warm and thin and in a massive metal jug. We used to mix it together until it was pink. What a completely random, bizarre craving to have! Of all the things I can’t have!
Right, onwards! First coffee of the morning is finished, and I must shift my backside into gear! It’s either Heck Sausage or Smoked Haddock for tea tonight. Not relishing either but I’m determined to eat the freezer gravel this week!
-
Haha. It’s true though skiing is the best hangover cure. Unless you completely f$%k up and break both the bones in your leg going down a black run, which I did once, whoops. It was at the end of the day though, so can’t really be blamed on the hangover
The snowdome isn’t a patch on the mountains for a hangover cure, but it’s the next best thing!
-
Skiing and hangover cure are not words that gel together for me tbh! Skiing full stop is not on my list – I have enough issues standing up on two legs as it is, nevermind strapping 2 planks of wood on my feet.
I’m going to try REAL yoghurt, and if that doesn’t work, I’m ebaying and back to Aldi before I put myself off yog for life.. barf!
Walking into town this lunchtime Lucky…. 10k steps a day is virtually impossible for me during the week, but I must give it a shot!
-
Yep, taking your word for it I find cod, chips, curry sauce and the last glass of the second, third, fourth, tenth bottle (depending how many present the night before) works. Side order of self pity. Wrapped up in a crocheted blanket of ‘Never again’.
-
Janey are you trying to make me surrender the duel?????
-
Some people really are blooming clueless/stubborn! There’s a woman in my office, quite tall but quite clearly overweight also. At 10 o’clock on the dot every day, she’s off to the tuckshop to buy some crap (pasty, sausage roll, sweets etc).
It’s someone’s birthday here today so there’s an abundance of cake in the kitchen which I have resolutely ignored. She mentioned to me that she wants to lose 3 stone in 6 months but it’s not going to happen whilst there are cakes in the office. I said that I’ve lost 2 stone in the last 6 or so weeks and if she is interested then she should look into the BSD. I said it is based around cutting out refined carbs. Her response was “I don’t believe in cutting out any food groups”. I tried to explain that all I was cutting out was fake food. I.e. food that has been tampered with beyond recognition like pasta, which is basically starch as all the fibre has been taken out of it. And replacing it with real wholefoods.
Absolutely blank. I guarantee she won’t have lost an ounce in 6 months. Maybe her belief in not cutting out food groups is why she is overweight!
-
You don’t know what you’re missing ladies. Standing at 2000m on top of a mountain, the sun shinning on a vista of pine trees and crisp white pistes, then you take yourself over the edge and glide down to the midway cafe for a mulled wine or hot chocolate. Bliss!
-
You have heard the saying, you can take a horse to water etc….. Just be pleased you have found the answer. I have had so many people saying I don’t eat enough, I will damage my metabolism, I will put it all back on when I come off the ‘diet’, No use trying to convert them as they are still stuck in the traditional beliefs. We know the truth. When I told my hairdresser (a life member of Slimming World) she said, can’t have olive oil, can’t have nuts, can’t have avocado. She can eat as much pasta, rice or potato as she wants without even counting it into the points system she uses. She doesn’t criticise me and I don’t her. Her diet works for her and she can see mine is working too. Back to that horse, it is horses for courses.
-
Lucky just saw yr post from a few days ago I think about craving egg fried rice? This recipe is lovely (egg fried cauliflower rice) and very tasty! I used soy sauce instead of coconut aminos and left out the coconut vinegar cos I couldn’t find it and it was really lovely 🙂 Hopefully that helps with your craving the next time you fancy egg fried rice with your curry 🙂

TIMMY I worked in a ski resort in Austria in my youth! Didnt try ski ing tho,saw too many guests break legs! enjoy the gluhwein ..and the scenery is stunning isnt it and the sparkling fresh air. Ledenhosen not a good look tho 😀
LUCKY ..how romantic..💕💕…he was prepared to move miles to be with you x ! Aww i love a good love story💕💕 -
True. I would make a terrible teacher as I can’t abide it when people don’t listen, lol.
That WW sounds mental! Can’t have olive oil, nuts or avocado!??! 3 of the healthiest food stuffs on the planet right there!
-
Yowzer it was in Austria that I broke my leg. Zel am See to be exact. I haven’t been back since, lol. French alps for me everytime now. Absolutely loving Les Gets. Probably the nicest family ski resort I’ve ever been to.
All I need to do now, is locate a self catering apartment in Les Gets close to the slopes that has a private hot tub (and isn’t too crazy expensive) and my life (well my skiing life) will be complete! Nothing quite like having a beer in a hottub after a hard days skiing!
I know what you mean about the accidents though. When I was in triage in the Austrian hospital, there were hundreds, and I mean hundreds of ski accident victims. The bloke in front of me had broken his back. Sounded horrible, he was screaming like something I’ve never heard before. 🙁
-
It is Slimming World, but WW is pretty much the same. They have to eat very low fat but carbs are free foods and can be eaten in abundance. Don’t know what health problems that stores up for the future but my friend is a tiny slim woman so the diet works for her.
-
Ah sorry, misread. Still sounds bonkers to me!
-
I only had school dinner for 1 term, at primary school, but there are still things I don’t eat because of it – 45 years later.
Semolina is one of them – I used to eat the jam & try and leave the semolina. -
You’re not selling skiing to me Timmy! I’ll be back at the ski lodge with a glühwein while you break bones..
This yoghurt is killing me.. or maybe its the after effects of yesterday’s cocktails and street food! Yuck!
Harissa chicken with chickpeas and BN squash for dinner I think! Trying to bring myself to have peppered mackrel at lunchtime…
-
Ooh I love mackerel, but ridiculously high in carbs and cals, so feels a bit of a luxury.
-
Ooh how did you do that little blue baby thingy
-
Mackerel is high in carbs?
-
Hahaha freezer gravel hehehe
-
Just take care of those pins TIMMY! X
JAN..its easy, thanks to Lucky putting me onto Bills instructions..

Yep Timmy
Someone here called that the glazed eyed no carb look, ‘, I can’t talk my husband always maintains in the forty years he’s known me I haven’t lost weight I’ve just put it on. Up until I researched the BSD diet I also thought the way forward was slimming world, the big carb pushers. Perhaps they have shares in the medication for diabetis. What I tend to do now is say nothing, unless they ask me how I am doing it, then I keep it very simple. We here on this forum actively doing this plan, are a very small minority unfortunately. Attitudes to eating need to change, for everyone’s health sake.
-
JAN its also a ” rabbit caught in headlights ” look..people look so horrified! ☺️☺️ Heehee! X
-
Sorry so fixated on carbs no only 1 carb but 287 cals for 100g that’s smoked what I meant is its high in fat which for us is good.
-
Thanks will give that a go
-
Lucky
Are you of on hols today, -
I had something similar yesterday Timmy, with a close friend. I don’t think people can grasp that you’re not cutting out carbs completely, just the rubbish ones! And keeping the good ones reasonably low. I’ve just had a shock this morning when weighing and inputting my tea ingredients in MFP (Day 2 of counting more than just my calories!) that a very small amount of garden peas was 5g carbs! I remember at the start of the year when I was doing another diet, I think it was my month of vegetarianism which went… horrifically. We were sharing photos of food (as women do) and she showed me her ‘lunch’ that day. A supermarket pot of pasta, with cheese on it. I didn’t say anything but picked it up next time I was in and it was 1000 calories! Jesus.
Sunshine girl has it spot on, we shouldn’t really criticise other ways of losing weight (but will still do) because for some people, they will work, and will suit their personality and way of life perfectly. The last but second WW stint I had, hubby and I were so successful (lost over 9 stone between us in 6 months) that they were talking about including us in a WW magazine couples feature. We discussed it but I was still ‘fat’ and if I was ever going to be a feature like that, I’d want to be at goal, not still feeling lumpy and frumpy with a way to go! I’m actually only 12 lbs away from the lowest I got to back then! Another friend lost a shocking amount of weight in SW before her wedding, all back on again now of course, plus an extra two stone, and she’s back on that now ‘because it works’. Think she’s lost about 13lb in the time it’s taken me to lose 32lb. Longer actually, a week longer. And she comes here and asks me how much I’ve lost and I tell her and she says ‘bitch’ in a jokey way, but it could be her too? Yet she’s insisting on chipping away at it half a pound by half a pound, that would drive me nuts! To me it takes an awful lot of dedication to eat that way forever, because it IS forever. The moment you stop, it goes back on. For me, the ability to include certain foods (Still eat CHOCOLATE! PIZZA! CHIPS!) was my downfall in a way. Yeah, I could eat a Mars bar, but then I had to survive on dust and baby gem lettuce for the rest of the day. And I couldn’t. For me, not being able to eat certain things has made life a lot easier. I am pretty much all or nothing when it comes to eating plans. Thing is, as I think it was Runforfun said the other day about a girl in the office who scarfed chocolate every day but was thin, thin doesn’t automatically mean healthy, does it? I know I’m giving my body a fighting chance now, knowing what’s going into it.
-
My GP referred me to a dietitian once – it was when she suggested cutting up a mars bar into seven pieces, and having one piece each day as a treat that I realised it probably wasn’t the solution for me.
What – buy a pack of four mars bars (far more economical!) and not eat them all at once?!I don’t actually like mars bars now – whenever there’s been those boxes of celebrations (those mini versions of chocolate bars), I definitely avoid mars bars, way too sweet (and that was pre BSD). Now Marathon on the other hand – and to me they will always be Marathon, none of this Snickers rubbish……………
-
I liked mackerel until I attempted to make the smoked mackerel kedgeree with cauli rice. That was one of the very first inclusions in ‘Well, THAT didn’t work – BSD recipes not to try, Volume 1.’ Jury is still out on cauli rice for me Karen, but I will have to try it egg fried once so I can see whether it ends up in Volume 4 or not… 😉 I did enjoy my turnip wedges with the curry though… we had them again last night with my prawn dish. Not a euphemism.
Yep Yowzer, nearly 100 miles 🙂 We’re a right pair of soppy gets lol 🙂 But I’m not complaining at all. Life hasn’t always been easy, but the one constant that’s remained unchanged through it all is him and me. Laughter has played a big part in it too. We laugh together all the time. Usually at him.
Jan, next Monday we go, be back on Saturday. Dread to think what my oldest will be doing here while we’re gone… 😮 Yep, freezer gravel! We’re all on it tonight, I’m afraid!
Tonight is smoked haddock with salad and garden peas for me! Seekh kebabs for hubby with the same.
-
Frog, you probably still call ‘Starburst’ Opal Fruits, don’t you 😉 ??
-
Seriously though, that is ridiculous advice. What planet are these people on???
-
They will ALWAYS be Opal Fruits. Fact.
My mackerel almost killed me – bone riddled (got one stuck in my teeth) and HOT! Peri peri was putting it lightly! Still, I’ve had my brain food now. Only 2 fillets left to eat…Jan – I don’t stick to calorie counting anymore as I have reached that existential post 8 week plane! I’m basically on the med diet, but taking it easy on portions and having a couple of lower cal days as and when. The weight is still dropping off, believe me! Especially with my UP to nag me now.
I walked into town at lunchtime, then had to haul shopping from Morrisons back down the hill. But at least I did it! 27 steps ahead Lucky…..
-
I know Janey, I just seen… I did a 30 minute treadmill stint to try and widen the gap. I’ve now had to sit down with a dose of codeine and I am floating… I think you may just edge this battle, but I’m not quite ready to concede yet… either way, we’ve both probably walked more than we would have ordinarily, so it’s all good 🙂
-
they are opal fruits – and my microwave make the tune of the opal fruits jingle when I use the quick set control.
Just went to open my delicious looking beetroot feta and walnut salad from waitrose – realised I’d checked the carb content for 100g,rather than the carton – not too bad, 20g, but not ideal having had porridge this morning. Maybe I’ll put it back in the fridge for tomorrow.
I’m cooking a chicken this afternoon/evening, and went into Sainsbury’s and bought a single potato to roast with it as a treat. So the carby salad can definitely wait for tomorrow. -
‘my microwave make the tune of the opal fruits jingle when I use the quick set control.’ HAS to be quote of the day.
-
and sometimes I sing the song to Froglet, which is why they are still opal fruits – no idea when I last ate one!
-
I’m definitely starting to think the humble turnip could be playing a starring role in my future recipes… just looking through things I used to make. Patatas Bravas could be done I reckon… coupled with spicy dishes or seasoned spicily, you’d be hard pushed to tell the difference between turnip and potato. In nice big chunks in a slow cooked beef stew. I think personally, I might have just found one of my BSD saviours?
Opal fruits, made to make your mouth water 🙂
-
🎵🎵 opal fruits! Made to make your mouth water!
Fresh with the tang of citrus! 🎵four refreshing fruit flavours,
🎵 Orange – 🎵lemon – 🎵 strawberry – 🎵 lime!
Opal fruits, made to make your mouth water! 🎵🎵 xx
My heads full of rubbish ( and i wasnt even an opal fruits fan! Too many other good choices for a skinny kid to choose from!)
I live in a time warp..i wd win mastermind on old telly jingles
And I know all the theme tune words to all the old cowboy tales there used to be on sixties telly! X -
Talking of old sweets adverts. Has anyone seen the old 80s kinder advert recently? Google it. I used to love the advert, but now it is creep as f***.
I showed it to my kids though and they loved it and learned it off by heart.
Kinder, yebo shakey. Me unscrubbly. Chocadooby! Double chocadooby! Oh, pospwobble. TOY! Yoddle yum and choccle scrum and multi pops wobble toys. Oh grubbly. Me toodles now. Yoko.
