Lots of positives in these posts. Verano, 50lbs is a brilliant result. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble with 33lbs. MK, thanks for sharing all that you discovered at your spa weekend. Very interesting and helpful. I love the idea of hypnotherapy for weight loss. I might give it a go. I’ve lost 1lb so far on this challenge. Hoping to lose a few more before it’s over.

Hey Verano, I once heard an Australian fellow talking about his successful Mt Everest challenge. With apologies for paraphrasing, climbers look up periodically to plot their course then concentrate on one step at a time……sounds like a plan for your ‘mountain’, in fact it sounds like a life’s lesson I’d like to get a handle on. Not too late in my 73rd year?.

I’m going along one day at a time, my personal challenge, along w Busybee, a bit of overeating last night, but not a binge, so ok. Socialising today for our team’s first game of the footy season. Lots of picky things…so I just won’t. Sparkling mineral water not wine and that has become standard, no hardship at all.
One day at a time everyone, have a good one.

Hi All ,Esnecca thanks for the recipe, it helped a lot, I was less hungry and I was able to limit my snacking a bit I’m sure some of it is habit. I need to be potion controlled with adding the avocado. Also thanks to MK for sharing about the hypnotism. I have tried it twice the first time I went to a private therapist who can get you to believe that you have had a lap band procedure and you will feel full very quickly. It was very expensive and after the first session, I cried all day. She said it was all the old stress issues coming out. The second time I slept really well and felt really chilled. I was now ready for an 8 week progam to do the weight loss but it costs thousands and It was too expensive.About 18 months ago I went to a group session at the local community center and after the session , I bought a set of CD’s which definitely had an effect but as usual, I did not persevere. I still have the CDs so today Im setting up to use them again. If any one is interested , its called The Borden Method. easy to find on google .Today, I’m getting organized to improve my exercise.I found a ten minute routine in a magazine that looks easy and also some BSD friendly recipes,I discovered that I can’t do a’ plank’ so there is another goal .Yesterday , I enjoyed my weekly catch up with Marsie and then went to the supermarket feeling hungry and bought a load of junk food for the family and spent the evening snacking.I should know better neve rmind today is another day and Im out to look for the exercise bike this afternoon.I doubt I will make my goal by Tuesday but I will keep trying.best wishes to all. cheers

Butter lover, what I should also have said was that the hypnotherapist was a private practitioner but retained by the spa as she specialises in weight loss work and I think that made a difference. It cost me £60 for an hour and felt more like a conversation than ‘going into a trance’ which I think I would have found too funny to take seriously ‘youuuuu are feeling verrrry sleeeeeepy’ . Err, no. However. I left the room not remembering some of what we discussed, which is why I thought it hadn’t worked too well. Bit it’s these thoughts, I think, that are helpfully resurfacing. Sleep is also better. When I wake at 4 my head says ‘not yet, have a bit longer’ and off I pop – weird!

Think I’d have responded very differently to a group session or something generic like a set of CDs – this felt more personally tailored to me, and combined with an experienced weight loss guy made it work.

Apparently around 20% of people are unhypnotisable, and a good therapist can spot them within the first few minutes and the scrupulous ones will say so and won’t charge. . Interesting. Mkx

Happy Mothers Day to all mums!

Again wise words MK. I had a therapy session in a spa some 17 years ago before my first hip surgery. It really helped to relax me and I must admit I’d forgotten all about it. I think ‘not pushing the door too hard’ for me is the equivalent of just relaxing into BSD and letting it take care of itself because I know if I follow the rules I lose weight! I think that’s why I tend not to put time limits on my mini goals because the ‘pressure’ seems to sabotage me.

I’m exactly a week behind you S-g I started on July 5th last year! Don’t know about you but I feel as though I really want to make these last three months count and end the year on a high note. You seem to have started your downward track again whilst I’ve put on 1lb since Tuesday. Lots of socialising but that shouldn’t really make a difference.

So my challenge starts properly today …. to stay the same weight as I am now for the next three weeks, any loss would be a bonus.

So cases packed just need to make one last check in my wardrobe and then off we go. Will keep in touch.

    Have a good day!

Not official weigh-in day I know, but I just had to report a new low this morning, 10 stone 9.4 pounds, which is 0.6 pounds below my previous low and also exactly 24.0 BMI. I am still increasing calories daily but in a controlled fashion with an aim to try the ‘not logging’ experiment again more mindfully after the end of this challenge. I have another trip to Cornwall about a week after the challenge ends, so will have a challenge ‘holiday’ then for the following 4 weeks and see what happens with a lighter hand but hopefully still with the mindfulness. Have a lovely time Verano, and hopefully you will find as I did that it is possible to go away, have a few indulgences and still see a good result on the scales.

Have a lovely holiday V, I will be following you in 11 days. All is well this weekend, not too much official exercise as we are STILL decorating and today we pull the fridge/freezer out to paint behind, dreading what I might find but will certainly be dirty. But, then that is all the decorating done for now.

Weight still good so hoping for a pound or so on Tuesday (preferably the ‘or so’ bit) and BG steady at 4.6. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, hope the clocks didn’t cause too much trouble, I didn’t get up until 10 am but really that was still 9.

Enjoying another quiet day in the sun, eating BSD food but not counting calories. We will enjoy M and S meal tonight (Slow roast veal with a medley of vegetables) and a glass of fizz to celebrate Mothers Day.
Keeping on one day at a time – yesterday has gone and tomorrow hasn’t arrived.
    Happy holiday Verona.

Fingers crossed for the “or so” tomorrow S-g. BTW, when you’ve finished your painting, what about just popping down here to little old Perth WA and getting mine done for me? Not so much to ask, is it?
Like your style, Busybee, day at a time…

My yesterday was full of temptations. Fully social day. My food contribution to the table was the ‘pickies’ platter., antipasto style, for during the match, pre-lunch. I’m often asked to do this and I habitually nibble as I’m cutting up and arranging. Stopped myself after a minor lapse, mark up 1 for me. AFL matches have 4 quarters =100 minutes plus quarter and halftime breaks so ample time to indulge. I was very restrained….mark 2 for me. Lunch, chose beautifully, then allowed myself a small bowl of trifle and declined a glass of not so good bubbles….mark 3 for me. Back home, dinner, egg and 1/2 small tin of baked beans….mark 4. Later in the evening, tired, came the beginning of a possible binge but managed to nip it in the bud, so relieved!….mark 5 for me on that one day. A very small drop on the scale this morning = reward🙄 Day at a time…….

One week into this challenge and I’m not doing too well, particularly as I only had 3 weeks (instead of the full 4) to complete mine.

So, went away last week and put on a pound! 3 days later, after being ultra (and I mean ultra!) strict, and that pesky pound is still refusing to budge. Grrrrr. And, though it is only one pound, I FEEL fatter!! 🙁

So now I only have 2 weeks to shift 5lbs to achieve my challenge (which, incidentally, would also take me to my revised target weight) – not looking very doable at the moment. 🙁 But maybe the scales will tell a different story tomorrow, on our Tuesday Weigh In. 🙂 I can but hope…….

Good luck Challengers, I hope you are all having more success than me!

BG still down and back on 22 units. Going to leave it there as I go on holiday in less than 2 weeks and there are bound to be treats. Will report back tomorrow on final damage.

Ah, Theodora! Look back at times when you lost waaaay more than 5lbs in 2 weeks. It’s do-able! And *all together now* IT’S NOT LINEAR!!!

The weight loss therapist at the spa said it takes <> 8 days to see the proper, non-water related results from a fast or a few good days. So your goodness now will pay dividends later. Feeling fat or not, I bet you feel loads better than when you were bigger.

Discovered this morning that I literally cannot carry for any distance the amount of weight I’ve lost in 5 months. How the flipping heck was I staggering around?? It gives me hope for the future and a determination never to go back there.

In your heart you know it’s all relative, and if you’re doing the right thing, you’ll get the right results. Stay strong! 🙂🙂🙂. MKx

Theodora, you’ve hit roadblocks before and come through them so I believe you will with this. Lets all see what tomorrow brings…..

I had a mini rocky road break-out during the late afternoon. Not the full binge as I have known it, so am managing to hit the brakes. Would just like to “not start”. It was mouth hunger, not stomach hunger. (The rocky road was left over from my day out yesterday. I make it for OH because it is GF and there is often nothing for him to have as sweets when everyone else is indulging. Most others like it too as it is not as sweet as many rocky roads. Would have been good if they’d finished it all!)

    See you all tomorrow……

M-k and Marsie, thank you both so much for your support, it really helps when one is feeling a little low / frustrated. This is my 4th day of being ultra-strict, and I will continue until that pesky pound, and hopefully more, has flown away with the Whoosh Gremlin! Feeling much stronger after reading your kind comments, and its very interesting, M-k, about the 8 days etc…….

I definitely took heed of your idea about carrying around the weight that we’ve lost too, so I loaded up a rucksack this afternoon with bags of flour / sugar / dog food – in fact anything I could find in my larder – to make up the weight I have lost and tried carrying it around. Phew – makes one wonder how we ever managed!!! And the sheer bulk of it, let alone the actual weight, made me realise just how well I have done – that poxy pound is nothing in comparison and I am sure it will soon go, along with the other 4lbs if I stay focussed. So thanks again.

Marsie, well done on applying the brakes and actually recognising that it was mouth, not stomach hunger. Next time, either persuade someone else to finish the rocky roads at the time, or just throw the last one away!

BTW, my granddaughter has to eat gluten free, and I am always looking for treats to make for her, so would appreciate your rocky road recipe, if you don’t mind sharing? As long as there are no nuts or seeds involved either, as she is allergic to those too! 🙁 Thanks.

Weigh-in this morning showed 63.2kg i.e. a mere 200gm loss for the week. A little disappointing on the scales, nevertheless I feel some of the steps taken during the week, in line with my goal of dealing with one day at a time, have been positive. I aim to continue in the same vein this week, not setting a weekly goal but dealing with things like mouth hunger vs true stomach hunger and unconscious or mindless eating if they arise on any day.

Looking for some nice results from other challengees (if that’s a word even, but you know what I mean😊)

Theodora, I don’t know if you’ve come across the “4 Ingredients” cookbooks as they’re Australian published. Many books published, only a couple of them gluten free. The rocky road recipe that I use as a base comes from the first of them.
I add and subtract ingredients depending who will be eating it, or more to the point, what I have in my pantry. So when removing nuts (cashew, almond, macadamia, pistachio have each been used) for a bit of crunch I’ve added in GF rice bubbles or broken up GF shortbread biscuits.

4 Ingredients Gluten Free p68. recipe by Jennette McCosker

    250g GF milk chocolate*
100g macadamia nuts, roughly chopped (see above)
    1 cup GF marshmallows
    1 cup GF Turkish Delight**

Break choc into pieces, melt in microwave on medium high, stirring frequently
Allow to cool slightly before adding other ingredients
    Mix until well combined
Line a small rectangular dish with baking paper, pour mixture in, neaten edges, refrigerate until set
Cut into desired serving sizes. (I cut it into uneven shapes and sizes)

    * I’ve found some varieties of Lindt choc are GF, but not all. Read the back of the pack.
Also, a younger person may prefer the milk choc but OH is also lactose sensitive. He can only have a little bit at a time and we’ve found Lindt 70% or above suits him so for this recipe I combine the Lindt Dessert choc found in the cooking choc section and one of the Lindt Intense range, often Intense Orange. Again, check the ingredient list and allergen statements.

** I couldn’t find any GF Turkish delight, so checked with manufacturer who assured me that Cadbury Fry’s TD is GF. 1 pack of the snack sized, individually wrapped, makes more or less one cup. I don’t know if the ingredients are the same for you as in Australia.

Hope this helps Theodora. 4 Ingredients can also be found on Facebook and Pinterest, probably the other social media as well.

Marsie, 63 kg is a distant dream for me, indeed I doubt I’ll ever achieve it at my height. I am in awe of anyone who can be below 10 st consistently. One day at a time, but lean on that door more lightly, maybe. It’s much harder to lose big wedges o’ weight when there’s not much of you. Porkers like me have plenty of chunks to choose from. In my case, my bum, which is shrinking noticeably by the day, leaving me looking very Jessica Rabbit on the top half and making big sections of my wardrobe unwearable for work. I look like a hooker…. End of our first week on this challenge, and I have lost 2.5lbs. Like Marsie, I have been aiming to just deal with one day at a time and I have also aimed to weigh only on Tuesday and Friday (though did have a peep on Sunday). This more gentle approach has helped me get over my blip and now I feel more positive and ready to tackle the next 7lbs.
Now for week two, but just one day at a time.

Had a little blip this week. Scales were showing a half pound loss at weekend but today are showing a quarter pound gain. Not at all sure why. The weird thing is that my belt had to be adjusted this week to a whole inch tighter as I have had a sudden drop in waist size.

So today am 9 stone 6lbs – which is still good as I haven’t been over 9st 7.75lbs since 10th December – so well on the way to 4 months on maintenance.

Good morning all. My official weigh in day is Monday so yesterday I was 12st 6 which is 1lb down. I was that weight for the previous three days as well. However I checked again this morning and I’m 1lb heavier. I’m not too concerned though because I know scales don’t tell the whole story. My clothes are starting to feel a bit looser so I think I’ll go with that.

Last night I ate a 114g bar of Galaxy chocolate. 55.4g sugar!!!! Otherwise I’ve pretty much managed to stay away from sweets and junk.

I’m aiming to fast for at least 18 hours each day this week. Yesterday I managed 20 hours. Now waiting for midday so I can have my berries and yoghurt.

Good luck to all for next week and more good results.

Firstly, thanks for the recipe, Marsie – I’m sure Grace will enjoy it with a little bit of adaptation to accommodate all her allergies.

You are absolutely right, Esnecca – thank you for reminding me. I’ve always been rather fond of Tigger, so thank you for the analogy. 🙂

Mk, that is a fantastic achievement this week – both the loss and the FBS. Well done you.

Busybee, just see how well you do with a little bit of focus and taking one day at a time, well done.

Krysia, I know just how you feel – great about the inch loss though. And 4 months maintenance is something to be celebrated – indeed, shouted from the hilltops 🙂

Cara, oops about the Galaxy, but I’m sure that pound will be gone by tomorrow, so don’t fret (says I who have been fretting about an extra pound all week!)

S-g, great result, staying the same after celebrations and wine – wish I could have said the same.

Verano, you may not have lost anything this week, but you have achieved your goal of no weight gain, which is more than I can say, so well done you.

Marsie, I would happily have settled for your 200g weight loss this week, as I have to report a 100g GAIN 🙁 Having put on 1.5lbs whilst away last week, and fully expecting to have shifted it by now, sadly, only 1.25lbs have gone so far – but at least it’s heading in the right direction now, thanks to everyone’s encouragement, so thank you. Still hoping for a visit from the Whoosh Fairy though. I now have only 2 weeks (before I go away again, so the end of my personal challenge) to shift 4.75lbs, so not liking my chances 🙂

Hoping everyone has a good 2nd week. Good luck to you all – and one day at a time 🙂

My weight has been up and down too this week. At one point this week I was almost a kilo heavier, and a few days ago I was 800g lighter than I am now – so almost a 2kg range! Overall though I am down 200g, so about 1/2 lb I guess.
My other goal was to walk 75,000 steps. I almost got there – step count came in at 73,500.
I did have a few small victories this week – saying no to a piece of gorgeous looking Black Forest cake for one! And fitting into a shirt I bought a while ago but was too tight across the bust.
This week I am going to be “off plan” for 5 days as I will be away from home, although planning to stick to the principles, and definitely no bread or wheat products as I’m sure they contribute to RA flares.
So I guess my goals for this week are to reach 75,000 steps, and to not gain any weight – if I lose it will be a bonus!

We are surrounded by temptation, Mixnmatch, so well done for sticking with only 2 mini-eggs.
My downfall would have been the buns I think, the lovely yeasty, spicey smell of them would have been my undoing and, sadly, hot-cross buns don’t tend to be “mini” 🙁 I think I may have to refuse to have them in the house over Easter – at least chocolate doesn’t call out to me with it’s enticing smell, so I can manage to resist the eggs (I think – though I may just have uttered my famous last words!! 😉 )

Theadora – you are right about the 4 months on maintenance is something to be celebrated. After yo yo dieting since 1969 this is the first time I have ever maintained my weight for more than a couple of weeks. The moment I went back to ‘normal eating’ the weight just piled back on.

Mixnmatch – you did so well with the demon Cadbury mini eggs. They used to be one of my favourites also.

Maharani kitten – how did you dispose of the ‘radioactive’ maltesers Easter egg? The carb monster is definitely trying new tactics to lure you back into the land of the carb demons.

WooHoo – at last that pesky 1.5lbs gained on our trip last week has gone, and another 0.75lbs as well 🙂 Jumped on the scales this morning – and these days I actually have enough energy to jump – and they showed 1lb gone overnight. Feeling much more positive – only 3.75lbs to go, and 13 days left to do it (my personal challenge end). As we are on an Easter theme, I’m a Happy Bunny today 🙂
