It is so amazing isn’t it our transformation!!! Being in the normal range has blown my mind I’m halving my metformin and then will have another blood test with a view to stopping it! We can avoid any progression by our diet alone!!!!
    Congratulations

Well done Linda! I started on 9th Feb and have my second hba1c next week so fingers crossed! Have you been testing your sugars throughout the twelve weeks? My fasting sugars are still a little high but waist can’t get a great deal smaller so I’ll be really interested to see the result. It’s so lovely to hear about people it has worked for.

thanks guys for well wishes – it really does help seeing the results in black and white and just hardens my resolve to lose the rest of the weight. I’ve seen a decreased fat % and increased muscle and water % so that is also good. I’ve been reading a lot on food as medicine and hoping by changing what I eat may help also with my autoimmune issues. TofiEm have you read this article?

    https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/dawn-phenomenon-t2d-8/

It appears that sometimes the liver still has some work to do – perhaps that is all that is happening to you. My fingers, toes, and everything else 🙂 crossed for your results next week.

Hope everyone is keeping well and remember I got this result even tho I fell down, got up again and fell down again. Guess what I’m trying to say is that if you have a ‘blip’ just dust yourself off and start again. It really works!

Thanks Linda – yes I found Jason Fung’s explanation brilliant – have tried the bedtime snack but no improvement and even read that low carb diets can CAUSE the high fasting sugars once one reaches quite a lean weight because the muscles spare the glucose to be used by the brain but increasing carbs a little didn’t solve it either. Think it may simply be a case of patience – as my bmi is pretty low now there can’t be a great deal of visceral fat left and maybe my body is just taking a while to adjust. Hopefully the hba1c will give a bit more info or I may have to accept it might be late onset type 1. Will keep you posted! Well done again on your magnificent results!

Luckylinda, I leave for the cruise on 16 the of June. 2 days in Singapore and then 21 days going to Thailand, Hong Kong, south china, Taiwan, Japan, south Korea and finishing in Shanghai. I think I’ve forgotten a port but you get the idea ☺ I love cruising, first one was in the Mediterranean then later in the Caribbean, another one through the Panama Canal which was really amazing. In fact the only one that was less than stellar was the short one earlier this year here at home, on the east coast of Australia. The Pacific is notoriously rough and though I wasn’t ill there were vomit bags tied to every railing and people dropping like flies.

I’ve done lots of travelling over the last 20 years and was a reluctant cruiser the first time but moving from place to place without messing around with airports and transfers and packing/unpacking all the time really sold me. The service has always been fantastic, there’s lots or little to do as you prefer and it’s way more cost effective, even with the drinks card that we always get!

Reporting on my magnesium tablets and I’d just like to say that they are MAGICAL!! I am back to my normal self again. 2 days to my proper weigh in and I think I’m on track for a loss. The only thing that’s different is those tablets so I’m really pleased.

    I hoe everyone’s having a great weekend.

Mariet that sounds so wonderful and only 2 weeks to go – it should be so good for the soul and the ‘mindfulness’ that MM does be talking about. I’ve done a few trans-atlantic journeys on passenger ships but never been on a cruise. I’m always looking at them but have always been a bit wary as you sometimes here negative things in the news. You might just convince me 🙂 Glad to hear the magnesium worked. As I mentioned before I have cacao nibs with my alpro and strawberries – they are also very high in magnesium and fibre and give me that ‘treat’ feeling – and regular lol. I had not made the connection with them having magnesium until this forum. Its amazing what we learn here isn’t it?

Good morning to everyone who’s still here and starting or 15th week 😊.

Has anyone else noticed a change in sleeping habits? I don’t mean sleeping better though I certainly am. I’ve been a night owl all my life but for the last 3 months I’ve been sleepy early and awake by 5.30. I’m sitting on the deck with my first coffee, before the birds are awake, watching the sunrise. Its only 4 degrees here this morning but is going to be another clear sunny day, more than 2 weeks straight like this now. I love autumn.

Well, weigh in for 14 weeks. 400g down and I’m happy with that. I hardly saw the 66s, dipped in and jumped back to the 67s for 2 or 3 weeks but then whizzed down to 65.9 and been there for a few days. My hope was to be 65 by the 16 weeks and maybe I’ll get there

My NSV for the week is that the very last item in my wardrobe that was too small, a designer size 12 black lace frock that I bought 15 years ago and wore once, now does up! I wouldn’t wear it out yet because I’m a fan of breathing and sitting but having it zip up makes me feel fantastic!

Hellyshear, how are you doing? Linda, have you shown your results to the diabetic nurse?

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Hello everyone. As some of you will remember I’m not much for posting but I still come on every day for inspiration and motivation. Since finishing the initial eight weeks I haven’t fully followed the program but kept to the principles of what to eat even though I know I’ve gone over the 800 cal limit set. I’ve done that simply because I’ve been on holiday to the USA for two weeks of the weeks since and I knew that when I was there my diet wouldn’t follow exactly what it should. However with all the walking and trying to be as careful as possible I still came back from holiday having lost 4lbs while away. So that now means that since stating the BSD800 on 20th Feb I’ve lost 37lbs and with the initial sugar free diet I started on 31 Jan I’ve lost a total of 52lbs which I can’t believe. I’ve also just had to buy some new jeans and I’ve gone from a size 48 to a 38. This week I intend to start the BSD800 again for a while as I want to reach the goal I had as a stretch goal as I’m actually only 1lb away from the goal I thought WOULD be my stretch goal seeing as my original ‘realistic’ plan was reached 13lbs ago! That new goal would put me where I’ve always wanted to be but I thought impossible. Exercise wise I’m using a Rebounder and it’s the greatest exercise I’ve ever done. I also take a walk after eating for 10 minutes on a treadmill. I still can’t believe how different I feel. Thank goodness I found this website, this diet and this group. Keep it going folks!

I’m feeling great the magnesium seems to have sorted my cramp and loo issues too!
Has anyone read Jason Fung? Is fascinating reading more about this WOE/ just love it!!
Going to London for a few days but not worried just feel good about the plan!
I can’t believe the joutney we’ve all been on since the 20th Feb!!!! It’s amazing isn’t it!!!

Hi all, I’m back off my holibobs!!! Just thought I’d post my numbers!
    Put 3lb on, on holiday.
All low carb eating, but too much! apart from the Gin, hic! Also the absolutely yummy Turkish pide, a sort of extremely thin pizza, cut into a piece about 2×1″. I had one each dinner time for the last 6 days of my hols, couldn’t resist any longer!
I also had cake! Also the last 6 days of my hols! They cut the cakes into squares about 2″X1″, and I sliced a sliver off! Amazed to report that the tiny piece I had satisfied me! The pastry chef at the hotel was impressed with my cutting skills! We were all inclusive but, amazingly, I stuck, mostly to the diet and really didn’t feel as though I was missing out, I think my taste buds have changed and I really don’t crave carbs any longer. Yippee!
The 3lbs I put on was due to the fact I hurt my knee again quite badly and basically couldn’t move much the second week! I spent a glorious (sarcasm here!) afternoon at the doctors hooked up to a drip with my swollen knee bandaged! On painkillers and feeling pretty s**t! Good job the resort was gorgeous and the sea view from our balcony out of this world. Just so missed the walks along the beach. Heyho, just have to go again..

Met up with Sunnyb in Altinkum before I hurt my knee, was great to put a face to the name.. had a lovely afternoon with her and OH..
Haven’t slept very well at all since being on this WOE, in fact I got some sleeping pills in Turkey, only took them once because they made me feel ill, but I did get one whole nights sleep.. I’ve been back a week and haven’t slept for longer than 2 hours,..at a stretch, don’t know how I’m still functioning but I am! I’m off to the docs tomorrow about my knee, might just mention the non sleeping. I have done before but she is loathe to dish them out.
Anyway! After I’ve bored you all to bits, now to the good part! The whoosh fairy finally visited me!
I removed 7lbs in the week I’ve been back home!,, that’s the 3lb I put on and anther 4. Yippeee! so my weight removed in 14 weeks is 2 stone 8lbs. A massive 36lbs… So, so happy
Gosh, I’ve just looked at this post and I’ve gone on and on, got loads more things to say, but I’ll save them till another time!,
I’m going to read all the posts I’ve missed since I’ve been away and see what you all have been up to.
    I may be some time!
    Keep Removing!
( decided not to say “lost” anymore because that infers I may want to “find” the blinking weight again, which I certainly do not

Hi all – so happy to read that you are all doing well and that even when on holidays still fighting the good fight – my weight up by half a pound but I know the culprit! It’s cherry season and of course as it is such a small window of opportunity hahaha I’ve been gorging myself on them – very bad idea – but oh they are so wonderful but am on a full stop with them now – see I just can’t have a few need to eat them ALL 🙂 bad bad bad girl buying them every day. I’m going to switch back to the fast 800 for a couple weeks get the body burning a lot more – although I have been steadily losing each week on the 5:2 (smaller weight losses) I want to see bigger numbers over the next 4 weeks then I’ll switch back to 5:2. Am on my own over the next week so won’t have any temptations around the house so can make a good run at it. Got my allergy testing back, everything they tested was fine except they said my overall serum level was very high which indicates underlying allergy they didn’t test for. So back to the drawing board – they have recommended a specialist to get to the bottom of it so another expense but will be happy when we can figure out and can get to the bottom of this bloating, sick sniffly feeling. Although personally I think it is definately gluten as when I eat something containing wheat the next few days are agony. But I ain’t a doc although am sure you all are finding like me that we are getting to know our bodies a lot better than before this woe and I could be wrong but….

Have a read of ‘Wheat Belly’ by Dr William Davis and ‘Grain Brain’ by Dr David Perlmutter. I’ve read both and they are very enlightening and may answer a lot of your questions.
I’m not allergic, but I’m never going to eat grains again!

    Hello Luckylinda,

Please excuse me for jumping in. I never like to hear of anyone suffering with allergies, especially possibly gluten. As the wife of a Coeliac Disease sufferer, I’ve seen all sorts of reactions including the ones you mention. It worries me that people self diagnose for wheat, not knowing if it is more than that and CD is not to be taken lightly. I do believe that if you are going to be tested for gluten intolerance, then you need gluten actually to be in your system for the test to be effective.

Not wanting to preach or overplay but can I suggest it might be worthwhile for you contact your local Coeliac Association (not knowing where you are) who may be able to give some advice in that direction.

Good luck with it all anyway, especially as you seem to be doing so well with this WOE.

I’m sorry you’re not sleeping though. That saps your energy so much. Have you tried magnesium? I am taking it for other reasons but one of the supposed side effects is helping sleep. I don’t know how effective it is though, I was sleeping like a teenager anyway.

Thanks Linda and marsie for the great advice. I’ve heard about wheat belly somewhere but haven’t explored it so that is definitely on the reading list for the long weekend and yes marsie they did tell me if I’m not actually eating gluten then they can’t see the marker for it so not sure what I should do but your suggestion to check out coeliac assoc is a very good idea they may point me in right direction. I do know a girl at work who is and I think I might ask her opinion as well. I’m not one normally to self diagnose but really want to get to the bottom of this as it really knocks me back – sorry for long post 🙂

I’ve reached my pre cruise goal with more than a week to spare!!! 65 kg today, BMI is straight 26.

That’s a total of 44.4lb from my highest ever weight 18 months ago, 30 lb of it in 3 and a half months on BSD. I nearly cried, stupid I know but I don’t know when when I was last this weight.

And my other happy new is that finally it’s going from my waist & belly. Two inches in the last week. I started doing planks a couple of weeks ago and I don’t know if it’s that or a combination of both but so very happy.

Have a wonderful bank holiday weekend, all who get it. We have one next weekend for the Queen’s Birthday. Who know why it’s in June rather than April.

Its my birthday on Tuesday and friends are taking me out tonight, don’t know where but wherever it is it will be a challenge. The Vivid festival is on in Sydney so possibly a night harbour cruise. There will be 🍸 and 🎶 and🍗🍮 so I might be telling a different tale tomorrow but I still have today!

We also have a long weekend over here for WA Day. Used to be Foundation Day but changed a few years ago so as to be more inclusive. Having been retired for a few years now, long weekends are not looked forward to with the same relish as when employed. We just join in with whatever celebrations are planned.

it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to (tears of joy) mariet you are going to rock that boat 🙂 Congrats! and I hope you have a lovely birthday. Yeah Marsie when I wasn’t working the bank holidays didn’t have same meaning for me either however there was an electricity in the air which I happily went along with the buzz – even grocery shopping on a bank holiday goes into a whole different dimmension – people are either smiling and ‘giggly’ or so stressed out rushing around shopping for that extra day and baskets are extra full – bbq food, etc. I would immerse myself in that and come away with that bank holiday feeling (usually with a couple extra bottles of vino and junk food!) now I know better and don’t use it as an excuse for extras and like you join in whatever celebrations are planned but on a different wavelength. Talking about WAVE lengths – so excited for you mariet – only a few days left to your cruise.

A small bounce up after my indulgent harbour cruise on Saturday but still 800g down for the week, my best loss for a while.

It’s my birthday and we are celebrating by going live with the new computer system I’ve been project managing for the past year. Not the way I would have chosen but at least the worst will be over today! My kids are coming over for dinner tonight and I’ve baked the aubergine chocolaye brownies from the Clever Guts book, will let you know how they taste.

NSV. having a really challenging time at home this past two weeks, but haven’t resorted to comfort carb eating, although I certainly have wanted too.. I just keep saying to myself, eating isn’t going to make anything better, neither is getting fat! So far so good!!

Hi Ann! *waves* well done on 4lb in a week that’s fantastic! And not giving in to carbs is a huge achievement when you’re under stress. Your mantra is really good, I’ll adopt that while I’m away ☺. I hope things settle down for you soon.

I’m determined to do as well as I can in this last week before a 3 week break. I had a birthday dinner last night and succumbed to a glass of red. First in three months, one of my favourites, a merlot but was too sweet for me to finish. I never noticed that merlot was particularly sweet before.

I made the chocolate aubergine brownies for dessert, couldn’t detect the aubergine (didn’t tell the kids what was in it until after they’d eaten it) but gave it to them to take home. I wasn’t really a fan but them chocolate isn’t really my thing. The texture was lovely though and chocolate eaters would probably love it.

My kids gave me a fit bit for my birthday so now I’m trying to work out how to use it . My son set it up for me and hopefully it will keep me on the straight and narrow as far as being active goes.

As this is my last week I’m going to post every day like my first week to keep track of myself so here goes:
    Yesterday 920 call, 35 carbs, 7000 steps.

    Better today I hope.

On another note, I am officially old as chipped tooth on a piece of 85% cacoa at work- going yo cost £180 to fix 🙁

Hi all!! It is amazing what we find too sweet now! I’m sure I can detect the sugar in almost anything now, never did before. And Mariet, yes, dry red wine is sweet now. Do you think they tricked us and changed the recipe! Soooo many things that are “savoury” taste sweet to me! I’m sure that’s a good thing!
Chelle1981, I also find the evenings challenging.. old habits.. I used to starve all day and binge all night. Not any more, I have an extremely hot shower if I feel the munchies at night.. usually because I’m cold. I posted on the “feeling cold” thread my struggles with keeping warm!!! I also save 100 cals for evening munchies, I usually have some nuts or hot milk. I’ve found that I’m fine until I sit down to watch some tv, that certainly is my trigger. Now I know what it is I just ignore it! Who’d have thought! Not me, didn’t realise I had willpower, let alone it being a (sometimes) strong one.
Keep on keeping on, onwards and downwards x

    Hi All

I haven’t posted for a while but been continuing to read all your encouragements – had a bit of a mega-plateau – nearly 4 weeks to be precise, partly due to various events so doing more like 5 days on, 2 days off ( but still low carb) and partly just due to who knows what? my slow body!!
Tried hard not to obsess about the numbers on the scales and just continue with the low carb way as a) very happy with the food, b) I am NOT going back to previous weight anyway and c) felt so much better. Also d) have lost 5 inches from my waist so something must be going right!
However finally, the long-awaited Whoosh Fairy has arrived and I have started going on down again….
Now at 17 lbs lost and any moment now , may head into the magic number 11s which I haven’t seen for about 10 years………will let you know when that happens!
Just posting to encourage people who are stuck at a certain weight – no, I don’t really understand it, but if you just have faith, keep going, keep walking, keep reading the posts, in the end you start going downwards again. Oh, and drink water, I am so bad at that….
Thank you all for all your encouragements – you may not realise how helpful they are, especially to slow losers like me. ( I used to have The Tortoise as my username…..)

Hid to hear from you Allypally! please do pay even if you don’t have much progress to report, it really helps me at least to feel that the group is still plugging away and i’m not on my own. I’m such a herd animal 😐 It’s discouraging when the scales don’t move much but good on you for keeping at it. In time it HAS to go.

Ann, feeling cold is the pits. A warm bath is my go to as well when I’m bone cold. A couple of nights ago I seriously considered going to bed in my trackies and dressing gown because I couldn’t face strippling off. I Hooe your feeling warmer, your summer must be arriving by now?

We are set for a week of rain here. I don’t mind winter when it’s fine but gloomy weather does get me down. I read about these inspirational people who still go walking in the wet and mud but I just can’t make myself do it!

Still getting my head around my new Fitbit. Previously I used the pedometer on my phone, yesterday I had both and the phone said 7000 steps but the fitbit said over 9000! My son reckons the fitbit it more accurate, I dunno. I guess I should just use one or the other and the phone is less convenient so I may go with that worth a grain of salt!

    My account for yesterday,

    780 cals
    28 carbs
    9000 steps(!)
    2.5l water
Weigh today 65.4 +.2 from Tuesday.

Not much to report from me other than I’m still chipping away at it slooooowly. I am at 30lbs down now which is great and I can’t stop touching myself & looking in the mirror lol where has all the fat gone????? This WOE totally amazes me and I am transfixed on my lack of interest with food which is so enlightening as before this WOE I thought about food constantly, oh and ate constantly but never seem to be satisfied, now I seem to be happy to stick to 2 meals a day lunch at 1pm and dinner at 6/7pm and nothing in between – how did that happen.
Anyway great to read all about everyone’s challenges and achievements.
My new fav thing to eat – I’ve fallen back in love with iceberg lettuce (sorry spinach you’ve been binned for now) crunchy and so satisfying drenched in mayo – fat is my new friend – just saying 😉 x

Aww, bless you Chelle! I’m finding this weekend more difficult than I have for a long time, lots of social events as it’s a long weekend but that’s how life goes. Still having fun and not feeling deprived. I do think being the driver helps me though, I have a real weakness for the dry sparkling stuff.

Linda, I’m going to give that a try, sounds interesting. How long have you been doing it and how would you describe your experience?

    Today’s stats:
    Cals 840
    Carbs 40
    Water 2.5l
    Steps 6500
Weight 64.9 yippee!!! First dip under 65kg!

Today I have to go shopping for a new swimsuit, a purgatory I’ve avoided for a long time but I can’t put it off any longer. Then Sunday afternoon at another pub ( I sound like I spend all my time at the pub… not entirely incorrect!) Today I am not the driver so a bigger test.

Enjoy your weekend! Sunshine is peeking through after all the cloudy rainy days, lifting my spirits. That and the friendly scales 🌟😀

    Hi All,
I’ve been back from my Florida holiday for 2 weeks now and I have been very bad and really feeling the effects. I’ve gained 3kg and feel so bloated! Lesson learned, drawing a line and will be starting round 2 tomorrow @ 66.8kg.
So lovely and encouraging to read how well everyone is still doing. Looking forward to getting back into routine this week. Please take a lesson from me and do not go back to sugar and bad carbs!!!

Very interesting read LindaA. Cheese is a go to for me so I’ll watch it carefully.

I had a fabulous afternoon at the pub yesterday, lots of friends I hadn’t seen for ages, culminating in a large group seafood dinner at a local restaurant. And I wasn’t driving. Oh well.

    Cals who knows
Carbs: no white stuff (alcohol is colourless, right?)
    Alcohol units 5 million
    Headache this morning: industrial grade
Weight: I’m not stupid. Tomorrow is my final weigh day. I’ll find out the damage then.

    Today is an extended fast!

Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend.

Thanks Linda, I’ll report back! So excited now, only 2 days more to work then it’s a whole month off!

16 weeks and the end of my personal 7 day back to basics. I kept to it reasonably well apart from the Sunday washout.

    Yesterday cals:620
    Carbs 19
    Water 3l
    Steps 6500
    Final weight 65kg.

    1.1kg down for the week.

16 weeks-13.2kg, 8 in each gone from boobs, hips and waist. Gotta be happy with that!

Keep on keeping on everyone. When I come back I’m going to be looking for my Mother of the Groom dress for my son’s wedding so I’ll be back on it and looking for support, I hope you’ll still be here.

Hi Everyone, we’ve done 16 weeks, who would have thought! We’ve had ups and downs, blips and binges, but we’ve made it!, so well done us!

So, my numbers this second round
    Bust minus 1″

Happy with that, and I had a two week holiday, and a few wobbles, blips and binges (Well one binge, and I felt so ill after didn’t do it again!!!!!!!!!)
So, I’m starting another round today, and hopefully I can remove some more!,
    Let’s keep on keeping on

Ann, your results are inspiring. I looked over all my records and of the 13kg I lost, almost 10 of them were in the first round. Well done you for keeping up the momentum!

Who would have thought that 16 weeks and we are still all here! I’ve certainly had my battles and think I always will but I am going slow and steady and making progress- my waist is looking slimmer- I still have a muffin top but even this has reduced! I’m now on a 6 week drinking ban until my holiday! Lol I’ve started doing some basic exercises when I get home from work do try and shift my muffin! Lol trying planks too!

I have to say my skin and arms are completely eczema free! Love it so much!

There’s a gym on my cruise ship… I’ve always avoided gyms like the plague but thinking I might give it a go… I don’t think I’ll feel quire so self conscious among all the skinny minnies. Maybe I can do something about these things flapping around on my upper arms!

Mariet, I have just been on a cruise and I do like the gym and I love to swim. However, if it is a good cruise there will be so much to do on board and off ship, I found I just didn’t get any time for either. Enjoy.
