Hello, just starting out on my BSD journey. Came across Michael’s book and discovered these fora. I’m so impressed with the support and helpful advise on here – it’s so motivational. I have a lot of weight to lose, have yoyo dieted for years with every diet out there, but I really like the look of this and am determined that 2017 is going to be my year! Would love some company on my journey, lose weight and maybe make a few friends on the way π

Day 2 and I’m feeling a bit wabbit today…guessing it is my body getting rid of the carbs but all I want to do is π΄ ! Cottage cheese and hard boiled egg salad for tea, lots of fruit teas and water through the day so things are going well. I have a huge selection of cookery books and I am starting to rediscover my passion for real food and creative cooking. Made a veggie frittata yesterday which even hubby and kids enjoyed. I am going to try to plan meals for a few days at a time to make life easier…absolutely love Greek yoghurt and blueberries as my go to snack.
-
Hi Chrysalis,
Best of luck for the journey ahead. Stick with it as you don’t feel great the first week but the scales are often a nice surprise. There are also weeks where you lose nothing and think what more can I do? But it all evens out.
I started the plan in October and have found these forums really useful especially on the rough days where even a read can be enough to keep you on track !
-
Thanks Cleverblonde…it is helpful that there is so much help and advice here…it does also help to know I’m not the only person to have felt like this π
-
So many inspirational stories too! My weight loss is pretty small by comparison but really pleased with results. Do you have Diabetes? Or are you just doing this for weight loss and general health ?
-
Hi there. Good luck with your first week. I found it a bit tricky and I envy the people who find they don’t feel hungry – afraid I felt grumpy and ravenous the first few days. But when I weighed in after week 1 this morning I was pleasantly surprised so that helped spur me on to keep going. Wishing you lots of success!
-
The first week can be tough, but I think for most people, the results after seven days makes it all worthwhile. Have been on a sort of maintenance phase, but I’m back on the 800 to try to shift the last few pounds to hopefully hit my ultimate target weight.
Found yesterday, my first day back on the 800, was a little difficult, with some hunger pangs and a bit of a headache by the evening. Today has been much better though and I have managed to be quite disciplined. Found myself in the kitchen a couple of times, pondering what I could have to snack, but on questioning myself, decided I didn’t need it and actually if I was honest didn’t really want it either.
Good luck to all of you just setting out on your BSD adventure. looking forward to reading of your successes.
-
Thanks for taking time to reply…Cleverblonde I don’t have diabetes…yet, but very aware it could be just round the corner if I don’t take action…it’s more I’m fat and unfit and my joints are starting to complain!
Fifi and Flo I have noticed I am grumpy today too …really hope that doesn’t last!
SunnyB…I would love to get to a maintenance phase of a diet/eating plan…next time will be the first π -
Have just watched The Sugar Farm on tv tonight and it was great to see other people following a similar diet. Was feeling hungry and a bit tetchy beforehand, but watching this programme cheered me up! Just shows that keeping the brain occupied helps and keeps our minds off that kitchen, where I too can be found lurking in the evenings!
-
Fifi and Flo I will have a look out for that… I like long soaks in a hot bath as a distraction and have also taken to mindfulness colouring books as a good distraction … not at the same time I hasten to add! I am definitely feeling improved today, but tired, though I think that has as much to do with the hellish winds keeping me awake last night as it does the change in diet! Hope today is good for you π
-
Thanks Chrysalis. Today not too bad so far although am still very irritable. My poor husband π¬ .
I think my daughter has one of those colouring books she’s not using so may give it a go!
How’s your day been so far? How many days have you been on the diet so far?
-
Hi Fifi and Flo and Chrysalis — the grumpy, ravenous and tired thing will definitely pass. Coping strategies that worked for me were, keep really busy with any project you’ve been avoiding, sign up for a Futurelearn class or Duolingo, drink tea, coffee, water, go outside and garden, walk, talk to your neighbors, go shopping and just look at stuff or buy something small, like measuring spoons (haha very useful!!π), get your nails/toenails done, go through old papers and file, go to the gym, try a new product/food that is way outside your usual choices — all those helped me but IF ALL ELSE FAILS and you are miserable, eat something BSD friendly like coffee with heavy cream (measure!) or a few nuts (6-8) or a piece of really good cheese (go spend time picking a good one out).
Be extra careful to stay low carb! Maybe as low as 20 grams of carb per day until you get control of hunger. This is critical in controlling hunger.
I am one person who never “lost” their hunger on this diet but it became completely manageable after a few hard weeks and I am on maintenance/at goal since June. So hunger will not derail you — keep experimenting with your own strategies and do what works for you!! -
Fifi and Flo (love the name!) …This is my third day on the diet and I have to say keeping busy at work definitely helps…it’s definitely the twitchy fingers in the evening I need to watch. I plan to have my first weigh in on Friday and fingers crossed I will have lost a decent amount. Feeling very upbeat and positive at the mo!
-
Thanks for the support and advice Californiagirl. I know that getting and keeping active will be key to this. I have to admit to becoming something of a hermit in winter…I hate the cold dark months, but feeling particularly slug like at the mo so am going to make a concerted effort to move more in a few days when the initial effects have worn off. Love the idea of pampering and think that would be a real boost so will have a look into it…will have to wait till payday as I’m a post Christmas pauper at the mo!π
-
Hi Chrisalis
Whilst being physically active is great as a distraction and also has the positive affect of improving fitness, sedentary distractions are great for keeping the mind off food and for mindfulness – doing a crossword, colouring, reading. Even playing a game or doing some online activity will help to distract – I think this is why so many of us regularly post on the forum! It has certainly helped me keep focused in times of faltering resolve.
I’m personally determined to increase my physical activity this year, but am starting in a small way, so hopefully I can make it sustainable.
Hope you manage to find some distractions which will allow you to stay focused and on track. Hope to see great results posted soon! -
Hi Chrysalis
Me and my hubby have just started out on the BSD this week too. I would love to lose 2-3 stone whilst realistically (and this is including the post 8 weeks Med eating plan) my hubby needs to lose in excess of 8 stone.
Monday was an all-round struggle (tired, hungry, grumpy, cold, bit of a head and sleep was poor), Tuesday pretty much the same but slightly less so, Wednesday a vast improvement and already 4lbs down for me – happy days!
We’re having to be quite careful we don’t rip each others heads off pre-dinner and think our cat is giving us a wide birth in case we’re just too hungry π
It’s taking us a few days to get our heads around calories and portions but what we’ve had so far has been tasting fab!
Definitely echo other peoples advice on keeping the mind busy – hadn’t thought about the colouring book thing so might also give that a go.
Good luck to one and all. -
HI SJ
Welcome. Just a few comments. When I started I was looking at 100+lbs off, that looks daunting at the start but I’m starting to believe that it is achievable. I have done back to back 8-week cycles and am in Week 23. One of the great benefits for me has been that I am sleeping so much better and hence feeling so much better during the day.
If it makes you feel any better, cat is high in protein and low in carb and probably tastes a bit like chicken π
-
Hi SJ, good to hear from you π I also have a lot to lose, but I’m not putting a number to it yet…I am going to take things one week and one kilo at a time and see where that gets me. I completely get the not wanting to rip heads off, and actually feel like I am heading out of that phase, but have a bolt for a bath or read a book if I’m starting to bark at the kids or hubby. On the subject of animals, please don’t eat the cat!! Keep posting and letting us know how you are getting on π
-
Thanks for that SunnyB, and I think that part of the reason I started this thread (apart from wanting to reach out to others) is that having made a commitment to posting on here and sharing my experiences regularly, I will hold myself accountable and help strengthen my resolve not to stray….lets see if I am still saying this on Saturday night when I am dreaming of a cold glass of Chardonnay!
-
Wow Jules Maigret, 23 weeks is amazing, very well done!…..do you have any particular tips you wish you had known at the beginning of your journey which might help us newbies?
-
Just stick with it.
Have a plan when it comes to meals, otherwise it’s a bit easy to fall back on the old favourites.
Try to get a variety of foods/flavours to keep you interested
Don’t get despondent if there are times when the weight or measurements steadfastly refuse to budge.
Drink water or tea even when you’re not thirsty.
I went cold turkey on white carbs and booze, as I don’t have a “one is enough” personality -
JulesMaigret, that’s impressive AND inspirational!
Sleeping is still waiting to settle down – two hourly stints is not that restful but will get there.
So have you effectively just kept going or have you switched between the 8wk BSD/Med eating/8wk BSD etc?JulesMaigret and Chrysalis, the cat’s going to be fine – she’s too pretty and gentle and funnily enough does love wafer thin chicken lol.
We tried the 5:2 last two years and we got so far and then both just stopped losing. Oddly am finding this easier in a lot of ways and guess we’re also not lured by naughty nibbles and alcohol!
-
I just carried on. I have had a few “off the wagon” days, but even then generally kept to the low-carb side of the diet, at the expense of the overall calories. As a bit of a data monkey I measure what I eat and my weight every day, and as long as the 7 day average is under 50g of carb and 1000 cals per day I’m happy.
I’ve never been on a diet (hence starting at 329lbs) so I started with understnading the principles and getting on with it. I sort of accepted that I would need to change the way I eat until I reached my initial goal weight – still got 28lb to go – and more importantly, get my blood sugar and BP sorted. I gave myself the goal of achieving these and dropping the 100lb by my birthday in June, so it’s a matter of head down, stick to the regime, drink the water and up the exercise a bit.
I’m waiting the results from the HBA1C I had yesterday, together with a cholesterol test I asked for as I have a slight, and admittedly probably ill-founded, concern that eating all this full-fat will put my cholesterol up. Yes, I know…….
-
Well, it’s day five for me and my first weigh in day…lost 4.6lbs which is amazing -nearly a pound a day! I’m still feeling peckish, but not starving, and the grumps have about gone! I haven’t been very strict about weighing and measuring this week, but am going to be more so going forward as I am probably eating more than I think I am at the moment. I am going to spend some time meal planning this weekend as I am a bit concerned that as Jules Margret suggests I will end up only eating the same meals for convenience.
-
Hi Chrysalis,
I am starting on Monday the 15th. I have spent my whole life on a diet I need to be in control before my 40th in March.
All tips will be appreciatedGood luck on your journey
xx
-
Hi JennyD…as I am starting out I am learning too, but what is key for me is keeping my mind and fingers active. There are some helpful tips on here too…drink lots of water – I aim for 2 to 3 litres a day, and fruit teas too. I haven’t weighed food this week, but I’m going to start because it will be easy to go over 800 calories, people on the threads use my fitness pall or fat secret in the main. I felt rubbish for the first few days but stick with it because it does get better. There are lots of lovely looking recipes on here too if you need some inspiration, and I find checking in here regularly and finding out how others are getting on helps keep me motivated. I’m 50 in July so am hoping to lose a lot of weight before that. It would be great if you want to keep me company and we can help each other with some moral support π
-
Hi Chrysalis,
We can do this one day at a time. I love the food as it is what I tend to eat anyway but clearly I am way over 800 calories π± I will weigh everything from day 1 as I know for me when I guess my quantities increase daily depending on my mood π
-
Hi Chrysalis
I’m just starting out too, this is Day 2 for me. I bought the book on Saturday, read it cover to cover and then started yesterday – no time like the present!
I had avocado and poached egg for breakfast early this morning and have been absolutely starving since then. Decided to change my lunch break at work to an hour earlier today, rather than succumbing to an unhealthy snack.
I’m used to eating a bigger breakfast, decent lunch then a smaller evening meal, but this plan is the reverse… I’m determined to do it though! Good luck to all other new starters π -
Day 2 for me too
Surgery last September led to the mandatory use of steroids so gained 6 kgs of unwanted weight. Giving up wine in the evening will be hard for me
No motivation for exercise either -
SueBlue you can organise your eating however you like, have a bigger breakfast and smaller other meals if that is what you like, as long as you stay within 800 cals and the right sort of food. I like to have a smaller breakfast and big dinner so I don’t get snacky in the evening, but you can do it the other way around.
-
Hi everyone,
I’m just starting today too. Never thought I would post in a forum but you all seem so friendly and supportive and I could use that. I am trying to study (half way thru my PhD in English Literature) and I’m worrying that lack of carbs is making my brain fuzzy. Its hard to concentrate, but maybe I’ll get past that bit? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I’m a diabetic (type 2) and I’m worried about not having my go-to carbs available if my blood sugar starts to drop. How do other people manage this? I am pretty motivated by going to the UK (from Australia) in April to speak at a conference but I have lost weight before and just put it back on. This is a last resort for me.
Thanks for listening! -
Hi folks,
After reading the Mosley books, about the 5:2 and blood sugar diet, back in december last year, I tried limiting myself to 800 calories for about 12 days before Christmas. Unfortunately I did not have a scale as I was on a business trip living in a hotel at the time, but at least found out that the 800-calories fasting was possible to maintain (although I had a little head-ache the first day). I had no issues working during the day, it is no office job as I was working as an engineer on a commissioning project and have to walk around and usually stand during work.
After arriving home on 23rd of december, the weight scale was about 2 kg less than before, so I had gone from 102,3 to 100,5kg. But main point was that I knew I could “function” during fasting.
I decided to start the fast 800 diet from the 9th of january and enjoy the 2 weeks off with y girlfriend. We went to my cabin in the mountains in Norway where we went cross-country skiing and snowboarding before coming back home the weekend before the 9th and I would start the diet for real.Anyway, I started with the 800-diet on 9.1.17 and my starting measurements were:
100,1 kg
Hips: 107cm (around where my underwear sits)
Waist: 115 cm (around the belly over the belly-button)
Chest: 113 cm (over the breasts)Reason for starting on the diet:
Over the past years the weight have seemed to gradually creep upwards and I said to myself and my girlfreind that when I get above 100kg I will have to do something. This happened maybe 5 years ago and I have not really found a way to do it. When me and my girlfriend cook at home I guess we are cooking mostly heatlhy, lots of fish and vegetables, but I am sure I have eaten to much milk, rice and white bread especially. And always lived up to the idea that skipping meals is a bad idea for dieting. Skipping a meal would lead me to get bad temper and possibly a headache, leading to binging whatever.
The last two years, after buying a new mountain-bike, I have been training a lot especially during the summer, but this has really only reduced my weight marginally. In october 2015 I signed up for a mountain-bike race in Norway, the Birkebeinerrittet 86km, and trained a lot up until the race late august 2016. A few days before the race I felt in better shape than I had been for a long time, so even before having done the race I felt that I had reached the true goal of joining. Finished the race in about 4h and 15min, I had hoped to finish in under 4 hours. Mostly I was slow on the climbs I guess and for that the weight is a big factor. However, with all the training during summer, I didn’t really loose much weight, so I realised that I had to do more diet-wise. After signing up for the same race in 2017 last october I tried to find out what I could do to loose weight which eventually lead me to reading the Mosley books and I have also seen the BBC documentary “Eat, Fast and live longer”.Well, so here I am now, a week into the blood sugar diet. I did not go to the doctor first as I felt it would be no problem for me to do the diet as I am not being treated for anything, do not use any medication and do not have any health problems. Due to working offshore I get checked regularly, last check march 2016. There are some cases of diabetes (1) in my family: my grandmother on my mothers side had it for years, but was painstakingly correct on taking insulin (she did injections herself), excercising and eating correctly. She died over 90 years old. Both her sons (my uncles) got diabetes and one of my uncles recently amputated his leg.
Anyway, I have done the diet for a week now. I check weight every morning (before any meal, after the usual morning toilet visit).
I decided to measure chest, hip and waist circumference once a week.Status after 1 week:
96,9kg (down 3,2kg first week)
Hips: 105 cm
Waist: 109 cm
Chest: 111 cmI felt fine, though craving food the first 2-3 days. First day was worst.
Trained squash on tuesday and friday evening and did some indoor (Zwift) cycling on thursday morning. On saturday our squash team had a squash match around 15:00 and from the morning I felt completely without energy (3 hours squash on friday evening and no food after), so I had to take some more food and basically broke the 800 calorie goal and ate totally about 1800cals (squash burned about 1500cals I guess). Saturday morning I weighed in at 96,2kg and sunday the weigt was up to 97,3kg, I guess because of the food I ate on saturday. I decided to get back on track on sunday, so except for a few fruits spread over the day I ate nothing but water and kept the calorie intake over the day to about 300 calories.Going forward, I am going to try to only eat one meal a day and limiting that to a maximum of 800 calories, although fewer is also good. At this time I am aiming to continue the diet as long as I can, then re-evaluate as I (hopefully) get down to 90kg, then 85kg which is my goal at this time.
Best wishes to all you others as well!
-
Hello Snekker, You’re doing well with your weight reduction – I found it very difficult to stick with the 800kcals a day diet, although perhaps I didn’t persist for enough days to adjust to the low carbs. I’ve been re-inspired by two books I read recently. One is Wheat Belly by Dr William Davis, and the other is Eat Fat Get Thin by Dr Mark Hyman. They both recommend low carb diets but emphasize clearing out wheat, and eating more good fats. It’s too soon for me to say I’ve had much success with the advice but I’m managing to reduce my carbohydrates now, without cutting them altogether, and feeling better than I did at first – I was pretty down and irritable going ‘cold turkey’.
-
Hi everyone – good to meet you all.
I’m just starting out too – first day today, so it will be lovely to have some company along the way! Ideally I would like to lose 28lbs and, more to the point, keep it off. I am saying that straight off so I have a record of it when I feel I am weakening. In fact, I will change that and say I am GOING to lose 28lbs and keep it off!
My inspiration has been two of my closest friends (married couple) who lost respectively 3 stone (him) and 2 stone (her) in the 8 weeks and, so far they have kept it off for 3 months and have never looked of felt better. One of my difficulties, however, is that my husband is THIN. He can (and does) eat and drink what he likes and never puts on so much as an ounce and still weighs the same as when we married nearly 40 years ago (12.5 stone and 5’11” tall). I, on the other hand, am 4 stone heavier (but I was too thin then – hey, those were the days π ). We both really enjoy food (I love cooking, he loves eating) and wine. I’m really gonna miss my wine and good artisan bread which are my two real weaknesses!
So far today I have had a few nuts for breakfast and a dish of Greek yoghurt and blueberries for lunch and I have made a pot of ratatouille for my supper, and will freeze the rest in individual portions to use later – but I’ll have to cook something far more calorific for O/H, or he’ll totally fade away. On the positive side, I feel fine so far, though early days..
I have today purchased a pedometer and a set of scales which not only weigh me, but also calculate my BMI and percentage of body fat/water. Haven’t used either yet, but watch this space………
I guess I am going to have to walk more – I already walk the dogs approx. 2.5 miles (approx. 5,000 steps) a day but I’m sure they are gonna love the fact that I need to increase my steps to 10,000 per day π
Having now made my first post, guess I better get off my butt and start moving!!
-
Hi all,
Started the diet today and have just eaten my evening meal and I am still absolutely ravenous! It’s as if I hadn’t eaten at all. I have a long way to go (about 50lbs) so hoping that the book is right and the feelings of hunger ease up a bit. I am however, looking forward to weighing-in to see the fruits of my labour. Should I be weighing myself everyday?
Like you Theodora, my weakness is bread and wine and my husband is slim too so would waste away if he joined me on this diet, so it is difficult watching him and the kids eating what I would have been eating if I wasn’t on the diet. I just hope he doesn’t test my willpower in the next few days by cracking a bottle open!
Having said all that, today I have felt quite in control. I have an entire week of food planned down to the last calorie and have been actively avoiding the kitchen to reduce the likelihood of a snack-slipage.
Thanks for all the positivity on this thread, it certainly helps to know other people are in the same position as me.
-
Hello everyone, great to see so many new posts on here. Thanks for taking time to share your comments. I have finished my first week and have to say that overall it was easier than I expected, particularly following on from the Christmas and New Year excess. CNicolls and SueBlue, hunger can be an issue at first, but drink LOTS of water and I also have fruit teas for variety, and that helps take away some of the hunger…I also found my mood wasn’t great for the first few days, but that is back to normal now. Chrissie63, You are also probably experiencing the carb flu you will hear about across the forums…it seems to be very common but doesn’t seem to last more than a few days. Im fortunate not to have diabetes so can’t advise you about that, but there are some great threads on here with lots of advice which should help you. Snekker, I also try to have one meal a day, and if I am really hungry then I add a protein drink packed with spinach about 2pm…sounds foul but tastes fine! Theodora, I share your love of wine and bread, and have to say these were probably the two things I most dreaded giving up (I love cheese too, but I can eat thatππ»). However, it really hasn’t been that bad. I got through my first full weekend and it went fine. Unfortunately I’m not active at the moment as I have ‘positional vertigo’, which is dizziness when I move so exercise is out. Having said that I still managed to lose a kilo from Friday to this morning, and I can’t imagine another healthy way of eating where you could realistically lose 6.8lbs in a week! Please keep posting to let us know how you are getting on. I do find it so motivational to hear how everyone is doing and I am sure others do too π
-
PS…If you haven’t seen it yet, Michael Mosley has one of his talks about the 8 week BSD on You Tube. I saw that before getting the book and found it inspirational. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t seen it yet. His passion for the subject is infectious.
-
Btw…Like Snekker I think it is a good idea to do measurements at the start as from what I have been reading you can lose inches when you don’t necessarily seem to be losing the pounds π
-
Chrysalis, I watched that Michael Mosley talk on youtube last evening after reading your suggestion, thank you. He is positively evangelical about this diet, mainly to try and stop the diabetes epidemic!
So far so good for me, though only on my second day. First day went well and I weighed myself this morning to find I had lost 3lbs π I know this is only water, but very encouraging, and I am actually enjoying the food – my ratatouille last night was delicious. Just had full fat Greek yoghurt and blueberries for a rather late breakfast (always walk the dogs first) and it felt quite decadent, like eating a bowl full of double cream!! I may skip lunch and have an early supper instead – tossing up between mushroom omelet or avocado and prawns! Then maybe a few nuts if I feel ravenous during the evening. Decisions, decisions π
Didn’t find having no wine too challenging as O/H always practises Dry January, so he wasn’t drinking alcohol either. It may be a bit more of a challenge come February when he starts again, but by then I am hoping I will be well into the rhythm of the BSD and not craving it. Though the friends who inspired me to try this didn’t give up alcohol during their 8 weeks, just cut down to one glass of whisky (him) and one glass of white wine (her) per day, so if I do get tempted occasionally, I won’t beat myself up.
I have now set up my new scales and apparently have a BMI of 29.3, body fat of 33%, and water content of 49% so I will monitor that weekly and see how it goes (hoping the first two figures go down and the third goes up!). I have also set up my pedometer, and I would recommend using one – you kind of try to outdo yourself when you can actually see how many steps you are taking, and I keep looking at it to check how I am doing, though I’m sure the novelty will wear off. So far today – and it’s only 11am – I have achieved 5,919. To be fair, most of that was walking the dogs, so the rest of the day will probably only be a few additional hundred.
I’m feeling fine, though legs were a little wobbly going up the last hill towards home on my walk due to lack of calories, but fully recovered now, and guess my body will soon adapt. Not feeling carb flu though, or irritable, but those joys may be waiting just around the corner……….
Hope you all have a great day, and looking forward to hearing how everyone else is doing.
-
Hello everyone – nice to “meet you all” and nice to see that there are others starting out this week too. Great motivating comments in this forum so I do hope you don’t mind me joining in. I’m 5ft 3″ and need to lose over 50lbs (eek) – one of the many motivating factors… I’m starting a new job in 8 weeks (perfect timing π ). One of the tasks in my new job is (from time to time) getting into a swimming pool to support young adults with disabilities – which means getting into a swimming costume (gulp!). Soooo, started the BSD yesterday (with hubby) to try and shift some of the excess weight. Not sure that I will do the 50lbs in the 8 weeks but am hoping to make a big dent in the number. I am definitely heading towards diabetes being short (excuse the pun) of the tall genes and am currently feeling very lethargic, not sleeping very well etc etc. I want to have LOTS of energy for my new job! I’ve been on every diet out there but having read the BSD book am feeling this is the right way of eating for me. Snekker, I’m going to take a leaf out of your book and take my measurements tonight and I look forward to hearing about everyone’s progress over the coming weeks.
-
Welcome Rhodie – I just started yesterday too.
Congratulations on your new job, what a motivator to stick to the BSD that will be. Please keep us all posted on how you get on.
-
Thank you so much Theodora.
-
Welcome to the club Rhodie, glad you are joining us π
-
Hi everyone, this is Day 2 for me! I’m going to try to keep to 2 litres of water per day. I drink a lot of cordial which is now out, so I’ve tried to get that quota in by the time I get home from work and I managed that yesterday. Last night I tried a tip from here and had sparkling water with lemon juice squeezed in and fresh mint leaves – it was delicious! I recently cut out wine but like a gin in the evenings so this drink will stop me reaching for that – I hope!
I want to lose 50lbs – wish me luck! x
-
Hi NewClaire and Rhodie – sounds like we are all in the same boat! I started yesterday too and have 50lbs to lose. Weighed myself this morning and had already lost 2lb, so only 48lbs to go!
Good luck! -
Well done CNichols and good luck to you too Rhodie! Should have said, my motivation is getting married next year and I’d like to be able to look at wedding dresses asap. π
-
I read these posts last night and thought “I’m so glad I don’t have to lose as much as 50lb”. I’m aiming to lose 20kg but would need to lose 26kg to have a BMI of 25.
Then I realised this morning that 26kg is well over 50lb as each kilo is something like 2.2lbs! Doh!! ππ
Just as well I’ve started the BSD this week! -
Hi All, i wonder if i could join in too. I am on day 2 seriously now. Had a few false starts last week. I have about 30 -40kgs to loose. Last night my bp was very high. I want get serious about my health. I have a gp this afternoon. I know WOE will help and im ready to commit.
-
So a quick update, I started on Monday and by Tuesday saw a loss of 4 lbs – I didn’t trust that I’d lost it so quickly so I’ve bought new scales! My weight tends to fluctuate by a few lbs at various times of the day so I have to weigh myself at the same time on this diet. From his morning I’ve lost 6 lbs. The new scales arrive today and I’ll be more confident on the figures with them, I’ll also check my waist measurement tonight and see if that tells the same story.
I found Day 1 very difficult, I was moody and felt a bit lost, didn’t see how I would keep going if it’s that bad. It didn’t help that I had the courgette carbonara which was tiny! Last night I had steak and made the red cabbage coleslaw and it was so good, feeling optimistic now.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been reading everyone’s posts and thought I’d join in – nothing like moral support to help encourage us all along! π I’m three days into the 8 week program and have to say I’m really happy with it. I tried awhile ago the 5 :2 diet with only 500 calories a day and while I found some benefits, really struggled. This is just feeling right!
While I don’t have diabetes, I do struggle with my consumption of wine and bread, something I see is quite common in this thread! So glad I’m not alone π
I”m hoping to lose 15kg. Looking forward to being able to see how everyone goes and be able to get some moral support when needed.
