I am setting this up ahead of Thursday, so we can all gird our (reducing) loins and have tomorrow for meal plans/shopping lists/exercise plans etc, for those who like lists, and hit the ground running on 1 August. We already have a number signed up (who will also be regulars on the weekly threads amongst others) and it would be lovely if others want to join, new or not, and whether the aims are discards/inches/controlling blood sugars/more exercise or just feeling well and awesome!

Thanks for getting the thread in place 6T. You must have been with us longer than 8mths surely! It feels as if you have been with us very much longer than that, sharing and supporting, laughing and crying.
Anyway, I shall be here on Thursday to begin a real drive to get myself under target, ready for our next trip in September. Haven’t decided yet if I’m going to set solid targets or not, but I have a couple of days to mull that over. Looking forward to sharing the month with other determined and focused BSDers.

Thank you for setting up this thread sixturkeys. I am definitely in but from Monday next week. I am as determined as ever to get back to goal. I’ve not weighed myself for a few weeks (dreading the scales) – had a difficult few weeks and sadly my cat is being put down tomorrow so I am going to give myself a few days to come to terms with life without him before getting myself sorted and continuing on my journey. I am looking forward to happier and more positive times ahead and hoping August will be better than July has been – onwards and downwards (weight that is). Here’s to us! I will brave the scales on Monday and post my weight and my goal for attentively awesome August.

Oh ClarinetCathy, I post something quite flippant, and then see your post. I completely understand how important our pet companions are to us. I have had two very loved cats who were put to sleep, one for a spinal tumour, and one for untreatable kidney failure. I have also had two beloved dogs die at home, of old age, the latest, my lovely old mini dachshund Bobby, just falling asleep in my arms as we both slept. This will be a real bereavement; you must give yourself space and time. I am so sorry; I do understand. With love xx

Hi fellow Awesome August Amblers – (thats about the best I can manage these days!!) – Aerobic-ers and Action Activities participants and travellers!!! For those Downunder/south of the equator, this will be a great segue to Spring – and my 3/4 of a century celebrations fast approaching in early September 🙂
*My Awesome August Aims are to get HbA1c bloods done – and hoping they have maintained or bettered since (those done 6 months ago) – last March. Then have my medical papers for continuance of my driving license signed off. *Also looking forward to doing more gardening which is a subtle form of exercise I can manage, and one doesnt really pay attention to or sees it, as a regime 🙂 (With a very warm mid-winter spell Ive quite enjoyed the outdoor hours such unexpected warmth has offered, time spent trimming, planting and generally “dressing” the plot with lighting, relocation of birdbaths and annuals plantings have definitely given things a head start 🙂 )
*It would be acceptable if a few more kilos would decide their time has come to quit hitching a ride . . . . though such isnt really a big deal as my original aim was to control my bs’s . . . those were halved in three months, currnt weight has been maintained through summer autumn and winter . . . though most importantly Im feeling SO MUCH better – (looking better as well according to those who compliment!!!) – and am more enthusiastic about life and things in general . . . than I have in many years 🙂 It really is about whats on the inside . . . and this past 14 months Ive discovered some fascinating things about myself which have enhanced my life no-end! With grateful thanks to so many inside and outside the forum – who have touched, taught and enhanced my life in so many different ways – aiding and (sometimes) abetting me along my unfolding and exciting journey!!!! Roll on August!!! Quack! Quack! (and Awesome August everyone!!!) from the duckpond. Shall we recommence pom pom practice Monday mornings . . .?

My goals: I would like to discard 3kg (6.6lb) by sticking to 800 calories/20g (unless doing an Egg Fast, as I am just now); and stick to the little exercise routine that Kafin and I started last month. And do my Achilles exercises!!! And that’s it really.

Separately, ClarinetCathy I was so sorry to hear about your cat, that’s such a sad thing. Sending virtual hugs, hon.

And Duckie, I’m a September birthday too!! But nothing so exciting as ¾ of a century 😊 Guess we all know what *our* parents were doing with their Christmas celebrations, heh? LOL

Thanks 6T 😊. Even though I’m Egg Fasting until end of day Sunday, I still consider sticking to that as being attentive! And then…
    My goals: I
    1. I want to discard 5lbs
    2. Strictly 800 cals, 20g carbs, 36-38g protein and the rest in healthy fats.
    3. No cheese , nuts or chocolate
    4. And like Elky, back to our exercise routine plus a few sprints
    5. Yoga once a week
My routine will be a bit all over the place with shooting schedule so I’m going to plan to the best of my ability because 6. Is to be kinder to myself.

We’ve recently changed the motorhome and the new vehicle has a large fridge with a decent sized freezer compartment so I can carry lots of fresh veggies, salads, meat & fish plus a few frozen home cooked meals. From 13th August until early September, we’ll be over in the Isle of Man to watch bike racing, this may involve visiting pubs on an almost daily basis … Access to the internet will be patchy (roaming charges!) but I’ll get on line whenever I can.

I’m just KOKO’ing in my usual way — but I love following along here!
My pizza excess from our Italian hiking adventure has disappeared, thanks to the return to low carb living and the AMAZING fresh cod in England (I can eat it every single day here and not get tired of it — I top it with olive oil and kalamata olive and caper tapenade).
I’m still doing 2 days of “failure” work per week (one with body weight and weights and the other a hill run) — I think I am really getting stronger (and I was already strong so it’s good to see!)
My stupid sore shoulder is getting better, but SLOWLY!!! Very irritating — I am very glad I found a physio to help me, but I’m afraid part of this is just being 63 and not healing as efficiently.

I am quite new to all this having started the bsd just 16 days ago, but have already lost 10lb which I am thrilled about, and that includes a weekend away at a pork pie making workshop!
I am not sure how this thread works, is it just a chat and encouragement, or do we have to set goals and give weights etc?
I have a question too if that isn’t being too tiresome. I have about 21lb to lose ideally and am doing this just for the weight, no medical issues luckily. In all your varied experiences, how much is it reasonable to expect to lose each week ongoing. I had been doing slimming world and losing 1-1.5lb but eating a lot more than the 800cals. I can cope with the hunger if I know it is working quickly, got a holiday in 3 months for my timescale. I know it is different for everyone, but your own personal experiences would be invaluable if that is ok.

Welcome to you Maisiebeth – huge well done for your results so far. Feel free to use the thread however you wish and there is no problem with asking as many questions as you need to.
Many folks are setting goals and will report results as the month progresses. Others will use it to just help them stay focused, touch base and for general chat – basically it’s whatever you need.
We are all unique individuals and our bodies all behave differently too. Some of us lose quickly and others slowly – I’m one of the latter for instance – even when sticking rigidly to the 800. My progress in posted on my Profile, if you want to take a look. Remember keeping the carbs low is very important – not all calories are equal. If you keep the carbs low and stay well hydrated, the hunger pangs will become history.
Given your results so far, you should be able to make a huge dent in what you need to lose -and maybe the whole lot – before your upcoming holiday. Stick with us and we’ll do our best to help you stay on track, so you achieve the goals you desire.

Hello everyone I am in!😉. First off thank you 6T for setting and hosting this thread❤️ Cathy I am so sorry for your news, if you can stay with you cat as she goes into her endless sleep, they will be crossing the rainbow bridge in peace and meeting up with pals. I am sending hugs and love as we all know how hard it is to lose a member of our family❤️😍🤗.

Ok so I am off on my summer holiday on Monday the 12th so I am going to try and set myself some realistic goals😂

    1. Try to discard 5lbs before the 12th as that will have me at my lightest in years 14-3(119lbs-90.2kgs)

    2. I will steer clear of french bread and croissants whilst away.

    3. I won’t avoid drinking but I will avoid cocktails as they are way to high in sugar😂, gin and vodka and no beer either.

    4. I will buy nuts to snack on and then that will hopefully keep me away from the carbage of tasty naughty snacks that my OH loves and will probably buy😱!

There is probably more but I don’t want to overwhelm myself😂😂. Good luck to you all and fab that so many of you, old and new have joined up.

Maisiebeth I have been at this for 17 weeks now and my total discard is 3 stone 6lbs and I am over the moon. I discarded my 3 stone in the first 12-13 weeks so if my calculations are correct that is just over 4lbs a week! I then had a couple of weeks off and on plan so stayed the same and then I put a couple on through silliness but they soon came off and then some this last week and a half! I was 15-1 and now I am 14-8 so 3lbs per week. Everyone is different but I think the average is 1-5 to 3 or 4lbs a week. I have never discarded any less than 1.5 on this woe so far. On any other way of eating I have done or diet I would be lucky to discard 0.5-1lb a week! Hope this helps, welcome on board and all the best on your journey. Remember water is your best friend on this woe and 3litres a day if you can manage is great! Hugs and love everyone and luck to us all this month❤️❤️❤️ Birdy💞🦜

Thank you all so much for your encouraging words. I am really enjoying this new WOE, how lovely to be able to have a bit of butter every now and then! I get that water consumption really helps and I am trying to have as much fluid as possible. Unfortunately that combined with a menopausal bladder means I am up regularly 3 or 4 times in the night!
So my target for August is to lose 7lb. I am 5ft 8 1/2 and currently 12st 6 1/2lb so it would be amazing to be in the 11st. My official weight for not being overweight is 11st10 so that would be my next goal. It’s lovely to think that there are some friendly and informative people out here virtually cheering me on!

    Hi all
I am in too. July was semi-judicious. August is full-on attentive. I really want to wow people at a reunion at the beginning of September. The last time I saw them – 2017 – I was over two stone heavier than now. I’m still in my healthy BMI range, but I would love to lose around half a stone that has crept back this year. Not sure if that is do-able in four weeks, but I shall give it a shot.

Cathy, I am sending you lots of kind thoughts on a really difficult day.

I too have had my ups and downs for July and coming out of it with a 3lb total loss. Besides a lunch on Friday I have nothing else planned for August and will be putting my all into it. One thing I find difficult is that this way of eating is my way of life so I am constantly watching what I eat, never have carbs, try to stay calorie controlled and always worrying about having a few drinks. But this is my life and I cannot lock myself away with no enjoyment in my life or what is it all for. I am going to try to lose as much weight as I can before my September holiday, keep the alcohol to a minimum and be happy with my life.

I wasn’t expecting it, but this morning I was showing a discard on the scales, might have gone back up tomorrow morning but I know what I have to do, and why July wasn’t as judicious as originally planned….I totally agree Sunshine-girl, we don’t want to be joyless, but I am coming to recognise that there are different ways to find it – still an internal battle going on mind, but hopefully the penny will drop…I have, perhaps rashly, ordered same old style of M&S jeans, in smaller size, to keep me attentive in August (and Sensible September and ? October…). All best to all as we set off down the road again together!

Hello all, I’d like to (re)join you all on this thread if I may. I started the BSD in October 2017 after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes at the age of 47. After lurking for a few weeks I joined the forums and managed to lose 45 pounds and got my BG within the normal range by April 2018, which I was delighted with. My goal was to lose 50 lbs in total, which would take me to the middle of a healthy weight range for my height (I’m in the 5ft 1 – and a very important half – club!) Then had one of those curve balls in life that most of us face at one time or another, stopped reading and posting but tried hard to stick to the WOE. I’ve managed to keep off 35 pounds and have been reading the posts for the past couple of months, but still feeling a bit too fragile to get involved. Now I’d like to start looking after myself properly again, and to stop (unintentionally) maintaining my current weight by sticking to the plan all week then re-gaining what I’ve lost at the weekend! So, it’s onwards and downwards for me, with a fresh start for the new month. I really want to get back on track, and find reading everyone’s posts really does help, even if I don’t post as much as others. My goal for August is to lose 5 lbs (I’m a slow loser) and to be more vigilant with my water intake. And stop eating too much cheese and nuts. I may join in with other threads as I do tend to skip breakfast and like fasting from time to time, but I will stick with this thread for now and post as much as I can. There, I’ve said it out loud now, so I’ll have to stick to it! I know from the positive experience I had last time I was here that there are no expectations, just genuine kindness and support. Good luck everyone! x

Hello everyone, I’m in, too! Thank you very much, Sixturkeys, for setting this up. I’ve mentioned this in this week’s OWAAT thread, but just a quick intro: I’ve been lurking on this site just reading as much as possible since March when I first started out on this WOL but then several (amazing, but interfering) trips got in the way and the more the pounds fluctuated the more I lost my enthusiasm to stick to it. Now I’ve finally decided to get a profile and join you all on this ride for good! I’m very grateful for how supportive and encouraging everyone seems to be, so I am very happy I finally took this step.

Now to my goals: I’ve never stuck to this long enough to know how much I can actually achieve in a month, but I am hoping for a 7lbs discard. My mum’s birthday is coming up next week (we’re getting Moroccan food, yum!) and I’ll go to a friend’s birthday on the 24th but that’s luckily enough not necessarily planned around food – just nibbles etc and in those situations no one really seems to pay attention to what you’re eating so I’m hoping to go unnoticed when I stay away from the snacks. Otherwise no mayor vacations or anything planned so I think nothing (of that sorts) should trip me up.

Have a great start to the month everyone and I look forward to reading what you all get up to!

    2) Drink lots of water.
    3) 800 cals, max 40g carbs and min 50g protein.

August 1st – brilliant. New month, fresh start. Sixturkeys, thanks for setting up the thread

My goal for this month is to do a minimum of 10,000 steps a day throughout August. My weight and bgls are all fine. Using Judicious July, I got my gym/exercise routine back (after a very hit and miss period). For August I want to focus on getting my steps in everyday. I know the whole 10,000 steps a day thing has been questioned, including by MM himself, but I need something to keep me active every day.

Even though I exercise now, I’m inherently quite, almost said indolent but maybe relaxed is a better word, by nature; I can quite happily sit for hours at a time and do nothing. I began to change this and felt great for it, but it’s fell by the wayside – or the consistency has. So, as a way of upping my daily activity levels – and general moving about more – I’m going to monitor my steps every day in August.

    Hope everyone goes well.

Hi all, can I join in please?
I did this last year and then sadly I respond to stress with food and had a very stressful time with work, home and health and turned to my old friend sugar.

I’m recommitting. I’ve got children and I want to set a good example to them and be healthy for them.

I’m not diabetic but will end up that way. I am obese and have migraines that I know are better when I’m not eating so much sugar and carbs.

Plus I have decided I won’t let work and other people’s behaviours make me eat my emotions and therefore make me ill.

My goals for August are not numbers but are this…..with 3 weeks away in a caravan, returning to work after some time off sick and a difficult anniversary coming up…..just stick to it and process my emotions in a more healthy way.

I’ll be pleased to join you if newbies are welcome, feeling part of a group should make my goal a little more achievable!

I have achieved a lot of success on the BSD so I know I can do it. I lost 42 lb to get to goal in 2017. I’ve found maintenance more difficult- I think nuts have been detrimental to my success and so I am going to be eliminating them from my diet in August. My aim is to be back at goal by December so I’ve got four months to make a difference. Here is my plan:
August- no nuts- strictly BSD – hope to lose 5lb (I am a slow loser). I have signed up to my Christmas Party (sorry to mention the C word) and I am imagining myself in a fab outfit looking slim and healthy at goal weight 133 lb- I will brave the scales on Monday morning- (I reckon I am around150 lb) not weighed for a while, I will post my weight on Monday morning. Lovely to see some familiar names and also lovely to welcome new friends to this way of eating. Here’s to us, let’s be the best we can be and do the best we can do for August.

So my target for August is to lose 6lb. I hope for more, but 6lb will get me into the next stone bracket. I hope to up my activity level too. I used to hike loads but that has fallen off in recent months so I need to rekindle the passion for it. I think at the back of my mind is that because I am drinking so much water now, toilet stops are few and far between in the wilds of Snowdonia! I haven’t yet mastered the art of wild peeing and I really don’t want to!
So good luck to us all and lets hope we all do have an awesome August!
