    Hi folks,
Time to start the next leg of our journey to a healthy body. This stage of our road trip will run for 12 weeks from Easter to the 12th July 2019.

JGwen- thank you for starting the thread and I’m in! Needed more than ever! No need for fancy titles- we are on a mission to lose weight and it starts today. I have sadly gained a few pounds and feel really disheartened! My weight does affect how I feel about myself. I am going to lose 10 lbs for my holiday in June and it starts today. The scales have shown my weight was 145.8 this morning- the heaviest weight I’ve been since June 2017, it was 141 at the beginning of the week and 138 about three weeks ago- Can’t fathom maintenance at all. I feel comfortable at 138 and hope to be 133 so here goes!

I don’t want to have to buy new clothes- I was a comfortable size 12 (I’m 58) so happy with that. I just can’t afford to let this upwards trend continue. I know the rules and my body reacts very quickly if I go off piste!

Good luck everyone! Here’s to our next leg of the journey! Hope I do better than the last leg!

Hi JGwen and Cathy. I’m in too. Cathy, I am in the same boat – or on the same bike since this is a road trip! If I’m honest, I have been struggling with maintenance most of this year. On the positive side, I am still well within my healthy BMI weight, but I am above my target weight and now 4kgs above my lowest weight. So I’m in for the road trip and getting back to basics. I want to lose 3kgs by the beginning of June, when we head off to Italy – my summer is coming a bit earlier!

I will come too, if that is okay? My goal is to get into the 13 stone range – where I haven’t been since September 2014. I am kicking off at the very top of the 14s, in my second round of the Fast800 and will be trying the time restricted eating, which I didn’t really do in the first round. I have struggled with motivation in the past few weeks, so hope this thread can give me a boost and some much needed encouragement.

    Hi Everyone,
I do find these road trips helpful because it makes me stop, check the map and choose the next path for the next leg of the journey.
I was feeling that I should be eating “normally” to be fair to the process of the research project on the impact of weight training to develop muscle for women in their 50’s. But in the last week I have changed my mind. – The sunny weather makes me want to feel free to head down to the beach for a swim in the sea this summer, rather than sun bathing in private.
Over the last couple of weeks I can feel myself slipping back into old eating patterns and I don’t want to go there. So time to hit Cntl, / Alt / Del and reboot the system.

No aims for reading on scales, because this is a journey to a healthy body, not a specific weight, and no aims for reading on the tape measure, because my body will loose fat from where it wants to loose. Just a general eating doing the best I can by avoiding carbs, and taking control of hunger.

Hello everyone and thanks JGwen for setting up the next leg of the road trip. I’m a long way from maintenance but I love the support and invaluable advice which abounds on the forums . I learn so much . This way of eating is solidly anchored in my brain and I intend to continue on my road to improved health. It will be a pleasure to join you and I will do my best to support and encourage fellow road trippers.

JGwen- I like your idea of pressing control/alt/delete and rebooting the system and I like even more your approach to the BSD way of eating with no aims on scales/tape measure. What a liberating way of approaching a healthy lifestyle.

Whilst I have been home alone today feeling grumpy that I cannot maintain my weight easily I have also thought how very fortunate I am to be fit and healthy.

Looking forward to sharing the highs and lows of our journey together with friends old and new. Your post had really inspired me to focus my approach to BSD a little differently. Thank you.

Hi I am here! The sun is shining and I am trying to do a 24 hour fast, but it is hard and I want to go to the pub! I know I can go to the pub and drink soda water very happily but what my brain wants is ice cold Sauvignon Blanc😢. I think the warm weather will be a challenge. Food is also calling to me and with my OH off work because of the bank holiday he is eating around me, which is making it even harder. Don’t get me wrong he is not eating anymore than the norm but I am rocking in the corner salivating!🤣. I think my fasting needs to be when I am at home with no OH. On a note of food I made myself chicken wraps the other day with little gem leaves. I cooked the chicken mini filets with smoked paprika, chilli flakes, ground ginger, salt, olive oil and freshly squeezed lime juice. Shredded it put mayo on the leaves wrapped and ate them. Delicious!

Gosh you can see where my head is at today🤣. As you all know I have just come off of nights too. Would you guys say it is better to fast when my body is on its normal clock. Thank you.💞🦜

Birdy you definitely have to find a fasting schedule that fits into your home/work life for it to work. There is no need to put pressure on yourself. Don’t forget to have healthy meals in between your fasts . You don’t have to do extended fasts each time. 16/8 ( skipping breakfast) is effective as is the occasional 24h/OMAD. Mixing things up is good as you know .

You have a week off work now so you can fast for a few hours …seeing how long you can go but without feeling it’s an obligation. Your O/H will no doubt want to share meals with you and even if you are having different foods you are still eating together.

You are strong Birdy and you can meet all of the challenges but take your time !

I do my 5:2 fasts on weekends so my OH can take care of his own food and I can disappear into the basement or go on a walk if I need to. For extended fasts I batch cook for him and then wash my hands of it. He’s very supportive and is glad to eat elsewhere if I’m feeling weird about it. That’s infrequently an issue for me these days, but it still happens sometimes.

TRE been really easy for me Wendy and your right the schedule needs to be right. I will do it Tuesday into Wednesday as I am home alone and can be relaxed about it. Essie I do that for my OH he has lasagne that was in the freezer. I cooked a big one then portioned it up and froze it.

If anyone would like to step forward to be the designated host of this leg of our road trip then please do. However, it seems to me that at present we have an active band of people on the forum so all posts are being responded to without having a designated person take on the roll of being confidence giver and cheer leader for the thread.

Morning all I am trying to discard as much weight as possible before the 4th of May! We are meeting up with my OH army buddies at Twickenham for the Army Navy match! It is a drinks fest but I am going to stay away from the liquid bread as it really is a no no! We are having a bbq today as my OH wants to do his man fire bit🤣. I think I am going to have halloumi as it is sat in the fridge and it would be nice to have it for a change and as kebabs. By July I would like to be well on my way to 15 stone or below. I am going to up my water and aim to get my protein down. I have been doing quite well but it is still up to 60grams. When I come off of nights my body seems to be stagnant but I know that now and I am trying to overcome it and not worry. Nights are only two and normal hours are 5 days so I should be able to push it on those days. There will be wine in the fridge tonight so I need to really try not drink any. Off shopping in a bit so will get fresh limes and mint to put in sparkling water. We all have the tools and well done to everyone who has come back and decided to go for it again. I am still pretty new to this still but I am here to encourage and support. Ladies and gentlemen we have got this. Birdy💞🦜

Just to say I’d also like to join if I may. I’m going to think of my goals over Easter for what’s going to be a lovely and productive journey into Summer and post them early next week. Thanks for starting the thread JGwen (btw, perfect title) and I agree about maybe not needing a designated person right now, although like you, I’m happy if anyone wants to do it.

On a mission – Gerry Rafferty, Baker Street always reminds me of summer. I spent one summer driving around London in a bright red open-top triumph spitfire with it blaring out. (Of course, the car was clapped out, the man didn’t turn out well, but London and the song were great!)

    Jennie xx
Oh, and clapped out or not, the car still beats my current car – a clapped out Volvo Estate!

Birdy, my OH will be meeting up with his forces buddies at the Army Navy game too. I’m staying well away as it could be a bit too lush for my liking and to be fair it’s all of the old boys and not their partners. Although I fear we may cheering on opposite sides. Oh well x

Jennie that sounds like a summer of fun, what a gorgeous car too. I’m trying to convince my OH that we should get a convertible for the summer. The kids are old enough to get on with it now and we can enjoy a few adventures of our own. X

I feel in control after my little dip out yesterday😉. Have an amazing day hun and everyone happy Easter 💕🦜

Hi everyone, I’d like to join you too. My goal is to rebuild strength following a broken ankle, to get running again by July. Running does something that the exercise cycle just doesn’t. And weight dropped off when I ran, so I don’t expect to maintain the same while in rehab.

Love the summer songs, mine is Careless Whisper, George Michael. Lying on the beach in Fanore, Co Clare, Ireland.

Baker Street, what a sax solo! But Leicester Square was where we hung out in late 1980s.

Birdy, my breakfast was 2 slices of bacon, fried mushrooms, tomatoes, 2 eggs and cuppa tea at 10am.

I will have a Pork casserole at 5pm and wont eat til tomorrow at 10am.

This is how I keep to 16:8 with fast 800.

I do have a square or two of Lindt hazelnut Dark Chocolate planned for the moment that I have my next cuppa.

Patricia I find it the other way no breakfast then eat at 12-1 and then at 7-8pm sometimes 9pm as my OH likes to eat later because he doesn’t get back from the gym until 8pm. I am glad of the flexibility of the TRE. If I had different types of dark chocolate in the house I would not be able to resist eating a whole bar🤣🤣 💞🦜

Breakfast this morning for me was one slice of Rye Bread toasted and a poached egg. My OH is on a long cycle ride and both kids are out for most of the day. We are planning BBQ today at some point. Chicken or a burger (no bun) for me with a lovely salad. I’ve decided spring flowers are the new Easter eggs. Well for me anyway, the rest of the clan has chocolate treats.

So many posts to catch up on when I’ve come home from my wee break away. Going to take ages to read through them all….but will keep me busy and stop me from eating lol.
My only gripe today is that I’ve gained 3lbs while being away. I was actually pleased with that and thought I could cope with it…….until I discovered OH has only gained 1lb. And he was eating a lot worse than me and had a few beers!! I was relatively good apart from the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Just couldn’t resist 😚

Hi guys. Thanks for starting this thread JGwen. I’ve spent a happy morning ricing cauliflower and broccoli and jotting down a menu plan for the week ahead. My summer song is Don Henley’s Boys of Summer too, Birdy. I’ve also got a spice rack contraption that I need to put together for the inside of my cupboard so everything is arranged and easy to find. 72F here today in Worcestershire and it’s wonderful. Was in Bidford upon Avon on Friday, having lunch by the river! A bunless chicken burger with salad. It’s great to be back and very much ready for this next trip. 😁👍

Made a cauliflower based pizza for my evening meal and it was delicious. The base was 5oz cauliflower, two eggs and 4 oz cheddar cheese. It made a large square pizza base. I put tomato paste. mozzarella, peppers, mushrooms, onion and olives on it and it was delicious with salad. Having the other half tomorrow. It was all I ate today. Been really good since Friday. Weigh in this morning was 144.8 so still well above where I want to be. I have drank a lot of sparkling water and have only had yoghurt and raspberries at lunchtimes the last couple of days, no breakfast only coffee with a little oat milk frothed up and only BSD food so all being well I will be able to report a loss next Sunday. I have been really disappointed at how slowly the weight is coming off since I went off piste but am determined to get back to feeling good about myself. No Easter eggs or hot cross buns for me this Easter!
I sometimes wish I didn’t care about being a healthy weight and feel rather envious of my friends and colleagues who eat what they want, seemingly without a care in the world and wonder why I am always so hard on myself. I guess it’s because I do care about my health and how I look and want to be the best I can be but it’s so hard! Here’s to a good week everyone. Hoping to report a loss next Sunday.

Clarinet Cathy, what you say about others resonates with me. Obesity is a huge issue, and a huge drain on resources, and many are just carrying around too much but then we also get the “body shaming” lobby….That girl on the front of cosmo as a body aspiration/be comfy in it….I need to kick 1 1/2 stone; I will do that with all the help on here, as will those who have more or less to discard, or conquer their blood sugars!

Sixturkies, the bodyshaming is internalised. When someone says you need to lose weight, that is heard as “you are gross”.

We hate the bodies we have. We want curly hair if it’s straight; tanned skin if it’s pale blue. And the reverse.

Health is worth aspiring to, but do you need to be frustrated with how you are now to be motivated? Or in my case, faced with a future with diabetes T2 and trying to save my life.

Knowing what I know now about the Big Food industries, our food issues fit into the misinformation and snacking culture that propels these industries.

Hi Shibby, those are either imperial (dessert spoon) or metric (ml) and I presume you are more familiar with the American standard.

Google cup dessert spoon will give you 19.98 so it’s 20 dsp to one cup.

Hope that helps you make the adaption.
