Sunshine,
The amount is spread from 5.30am until the 9pm when I was having my latest glass. On average it’s a small glass an hour.

on 10 Jul 2018 at 22:17 in Fast 800Skinny, it is not just you, it seems to be who is drinking the most. A man can drink up to 3lts per day and a woman 2.2ltrs, so I dont know why people are trying to drink more and more. Although I suspect your calculations are a bit out as 9 pints of water is just over 4 litres plus miso, 4 teas at 200ml each, 3 coffees x 200ml probably around 5 to 6 litres litres. However, that is still a very dangerous amount to be drinking. Are you replacing your electrolytes safely to compensate. Your claim of drinking 8 litres would actually have made you seriously ill but the fact you have claimed to have done it might make someone else try to better that. It also depends how quickly you drank them. Anyway, whatever the case, it seems to be a trend here and as someone who has a nursing background I do not feel comfortable with these contributions and think some clarity is needed. All I have asked of the moderators is that they give some advice on this, particularly in the hot weather. We are told to keep up our hydration during the heat but no-one says how much, or how much is too much. As this is basically a medical site I think they should take some responsibility.

on 10 Jul 2018 at 21:45 in Fast 800Sunshine, I’m in no competition with my anyone. As it’s quite hot and I spent one hour of my lunch sitting in the court yard and during that time had my miso soup and two tall glasses of water as too hot. I tend to have a glass of water with my coffee and tea and I do start a day with a large glass or warm/hot water. It all adds up. But as I said, I was training myself for over 10 years in drinking a minimum of 3-4 litres a day and in this hot period of past month I was prepared and well prepared to cope with the weather than anyone around me. And I work in an aircon office.

on 10 Jul 2018 at 21:42 in Fast 800I have reported a post regarding water intake as I feel there are some very dangerous practices now taking place on this site. It is no one particular person, rather a case of misinformation and using known information to an extreme limit. I have asked if there can be some medical intervention into the facts about things that are being advised here.

Violinist, I realize that your question wasn’t directed to me, but just wanted to share my anecdotal results
with you! I was retested for high cloresterol, LDL, triglycerides and HDL six months after starting on this
WOE. My total chloresterol was 250 when I began, and dropped to within “optimal” ranges, as did all my
other markers. Omega3 fatty acids, found in wild fish, especially salmon, raises HDL and lowers triglycerides.
We eat it 2 x week. Red meat only once a month, and only if it’s pastured. Organic chicken breast, without
the skin. And no cheese. (that was the hardest!) My husband has very advanced coronary artery disease,
and his results were the same as mine! Recommendation from our cardiologist is that we both stay on
40g of statins, but we also believe that is not what made the difference, but weight loss and the BSD. We go
very lean with protein, but use healthy plant based fats, rather than sat. fats. Anecdotal, as I said, but
it was effective for us. Anyway, that’s what WE eat! 🙂Allie

Well here we are ready for the off as they say. I’ll look out for miso soup, no Waitrose here in Pembrokeshire perhaps Tesco will have it.. I tried frozen raspberries mixed with yogurt after seeing it in the Mail on Sunday Michael Moseley supliment in there absolutely delicious. I have also tried mixing yogurt and mayo 1 part mayo to 3 parts yogurt, then adding to it some minced garlic or chopped chilli in a jar or mustard, you get the picture. It makes a lovely dressing and not too heavy on carbs or calories.
Good luck to us all

I have been doing ok today. May have gone over 800cals but fewer than 50g protein and about 23g carbs.
I’ve always been proud of my drink regime but today I had nine (9) pint glasses of water with a bit of lemon squeeze for ‘colour’ four (4) mugs of herbal tea and three coffees. In total EIGHT litre of liquids. When going to the loo the pee was as clear as water. Was well pleased with myself. All those years of ensuring my body had enough fluids paid of.
All in all it’s been a good day.
All the best, friends.

on 10 Jul 2018 at 20:51 in Fast 800I can only echo what JGwen is saying. I’ve got a fit bit hr and i have noticed that I’m able to get into the peak zone for longer periods. My clothes are looser and bending down to tie shoelaces , well that used to feel as though I was being cut in half and could not breath. It’s much easier now. My energy levels are much higher, instead of saying oh I will finish this tomorrow, I’m finishing it today! I’m in a better frame of mind all round, so even if the scales don’t move, I am reaping the benefits in other ways. I do wish I had taken full measurements!
I tried mixing frozen raspberries with yogurt, delicious just added a sprinkle of ground almonds on the top. Did not think about freezing it, will try that next time.
Oh another thing, I used to wait until there were several things to go upstairs, I just kept leaving them at the bottom of the stairs. Now. I run up and down as often as possible. Another NSV..
Have thought about smart scales like the aria but not made the purchase yet. I’m always barefoot as often as possible so perhaps they may not work for me either. All food for thought! -

on 10 Jul 2018 at 20:17 in Fast 800Hi Catherine, – I think its really important to have a full (and I mean really full from ankle size upwards) set of measurements, and to monitor your fitness levels, not just to focus on the readings on the scales.
Its so easy to get down if the reading on the scales is not what you want, and I have seen different members of this forum over the months fall off the wagon because they were not seeing a change in the scales. But I am sure if they had also been looking for None Scale Victories they would have seen the changes that were happening.
I wouldn’t have believed it if you had told me this back in October, but those of us who have a lot to loose have an advantage, repeated cycles of low carb helps us adapt to this way of eating so that your taste buds change and you can easily adopt it as a change for life.Hi MaggieBath, I do like the advice from the link you provided that the best days for fasting are days you are going to be busy so will not have the time to think about food so much. I think the skin on the bottom of my feet is too thick for the smart scales to get a reading. – Serves me right for spending so much time walking around barefoot.
Alliecat, I think I have seen before people talking about combining yoghurt with frozen cherries to create a BSD friendly ice cream. – Sounds like a useful tip for the temps you have been talking about.
I don’t think that L-carnitine builds muscle as much as helps get energy to the muscles. I do notice that I feel so much warmer than normal, there have been times during this dry spell that I have been warm enough to sweat. -

Wendyq,
I do understand the joy of digging and mucking about with soil. I think there something primal about a human being touching the soil, working it. I used to have an allotment but had to give it up as it would take me away from the little one and also we travelled a lot over the past almost 5 years at times 9 weeks at the time and I would end up tending the jungle rather than finding a courgette or else there 😀. I’ll get one in the near future again but until then my neighbour is my supplier of the ‘goods’ home grown.
My back garden has steps down and on each side I have raised beds with evergreens. The steps lead to my patio and then is the lawn. I also have a slimline apple tree at the back of the garden but mostly the back of the garden needs flowers or something that climes the fence and is fragrant. I just cannot decide what to put in there. Was thinking some lavender bush with sister is or else but the ideas are ever-changing and that’s why I can’t ‘move my ass’ to hear and do something about it.We went to John Lewis, after work, as my husband’s glasses were ready for collection and we ended up having coffee at KuPP restaurant on the terrace while the little one was munching meatballs. Coming home o had a bit of this and that so may have gone over 800cals. Had a carrot and cucumber sticks with a bit of humour and a fillet of smoked mackerel. I also found a courgette crisps (American ‘chips’) which I put I the oven and if it goes as brilliant as I think it may I will post a recipe.
Wendyq, you enjoy now your well well deserved dinner xx
Violinist, thinking about you and your holibob. Enjoy, my friend xx

on 10 Jul 2018 at 18:45 in Fast 800JGwen, it’s occurred to me that taking l-carnitine which builds muscle and all the farmwork that comes at this time of year you must be developing a lot of muscle. Do l remember you saying you’d got a smart scale but you couldn’t get it to work? It’s a shame that you can’t see what’s happening because I imagine it would be very interesting. I don’t need to tell you that haymaking is incredibly hard work.

Hi Rainbird, welcome to the site and congratulations to you both. Those are great losses.

If your doctor wont do it then I think you can get it done in Boots. If you do that make sure you have fasted for at least 12 hours, not even a cup of tea. That means you might have to make an appointment for an early morning test. If it is just a finger prick test then it wont mean very much unless it is unusually high in which case you can go to your doctor with that evidence for further tests. Maybe your family history might convince the doctor to do it. It would cost him nothing for a finger prick but the same rules apply, fast.

on 10 Jul 2018 at 17:45 in Fast 800Allie – probably started fasting about 2 months ago or maybe a little bit longer (not exactly sure as I am out teaching pilates and won’t be home until late). Have been doing 16/8 or 18/6 for 4 or 5 days a week and have done a couple only of 21 hour fasts. As my weight keeps dropping my face actually is improving – not getting more haggard which I thought it would. So very surprising – could the fasting cause my body to repair.

Hi bordersgirl, you can change the macro goals on myfitnesspal wihtout paying for premium. I have changed mine.
Got to: – More – Goals – scroll down to Nutrient Goals, and you will see “Calories, Carbs, Protein & Fat Goals”. There you can play around with the percentages.

Hi, new to this forum and looking for some help. I feel sure I should know this but is there a way to accurately work out how much Protein, Carbs and Fat I should be having? I am not diabetic, nor pre diabetic but I lost 4st last year and it is just starting to creep back on. I want to jump on that before it gets out of hand. I used one website and it gave me 25g Carbs, 61g Protein, 60g Fat – does that sound right?
I am 61years old, 1.49 metres tall, I weigh 57 kilos, do a minimum of 12,000 steps a day (up to 20,000 if I can) and I use My Fitness Pal to track food but I cannot alter the total goals without upgrading to premium which I am not inclined to do.
Grateful for any help. -
My knowledge of the water subject are not coming from Mr Google but from my background in nursing. Of course there are going to be exceptions to the rule. For example, we have recently experienced so very high temperatures and drinking more makes sense as does upping water intake during and after exercise. My point was that it does you no good to go overboard and try to have more and more of something because it is good for you. Aim to DRINK 2 litres of fluids be that water, milk, coffee, etc. Do not believe that tea and coffee dehydrate so you have to replace each cuppa with an extra half litre of water (I have heard that one), drink more when required like hot weather etc but do not drink it down in one go, spread it out and no more than 0.8 litres per hour. If you are drinking loads, or sweating loads, replace the salts with a good salt that has not been processed, just a bit on the tip of your finger. Certain bottled waters contain many minerals – they are usually the fizzy ones and taste a bit salty. My preferred mineral replacement is Andrews Liver salts – 1 teaspoon in water should do it. We all want to be fit and healthy otherwise we wouldn’t be on this site, just stay safe.
One of you said (I cant see the post now) they probably drink more than 3 litres. It is quite hard to drink that much water so it is a good idea to measure it out.

I’d love to help you in the garden Skinny to be,people can’t understand what pleasure I get out of digging etc.Do you have a big garden?I grow quite a lot of veg and fruit,we also have a pond which is rapidly drying up in this heat. You’ll be able to have something nice for your 412 calories.

You can get it checked if your glucose is on the high side but not yet diabetic levels, so I suppose pre diabetes. I have yearly blood checks for the thyroid drugs I take. Last year I got a phone all from my doctor to say my results were back & he needed to see me. I thought my thyroid pill needed adjusting but, no, he said my glucose was on the high side. That’s when I turned to this diet. So if you can get a typical blood test at your GP or walk in hospital clinic they should be able to tell.
You’ve got a good eight weeks till your holidays, perfect time to start, it’s surprising how quickly you feel better & start to see results. I’m just coming to the end of my third week & I’ve lost 10lb since I started, though this week not as much as the first two, just a pound. -

Ellem, if you want to get into ketosis you can be confident that it is starting 12 hours after your last meal. So if you have lunch at midday that is giving you at least six hours of fat burning; it is the fat burning that is the secret to good weight loss and targeting any liver or visceral fat.
A lot of what we interpret as hunger is in fact thirst or demands from your gut biome to be fed. If you can power through the morning sensation of hunger then you will make faster progress. What I enjoy about fasting, whether 16:8 or longer fasts, is that I feel in control of my body rather than letting my body dictate to me. For me that was the breakthrough.
Maggie -
That’s all very interesting as when I read about drinking 2-3 litres of water a day I took it to mean of actual water ( to flush out the fat) no matter what else you were drinking or eating. Obviously I was completely wrong.

Ellem – losing 9%of your weight in 5 weeks is really impressive. I’ve just worked out that I would need to lose 21lb to do the same.
I’m struggling today. Feeling hungry, tired, thinking about carb foods, and emotional – may all be hormone related than diet.
Are there any scientists around? I’m on an antidepressant called Clomipramine for OCD. My symptoms have been stable for quite a while but I’ve been feeling more anxious for the last week or so. It has coincided with me starting the diet but may be a coincidence. But doing a bit of reading about it today and found some info about serotonin which is thought to be reduced in people with ocd, and is increased by taking antidepressants like mine. Anyway apparently carbs are needed to make serotonin. I’m a bit confused as another report said amino acids were needed!
I did cut back on my carbs a couple of years ago and didn’t notice any problems but it is making me wonder. Any thoughts?? I’m thinking if things don’t settle down I may need to start eating carbs to see if it helps. I have been very unwell with the ocd in the past and don’t want to go back there again. -

on 10 Jul 2018 at 16:09 in Fast 800Violinist, you can see from my results that it can only be this diet that has reduced my cholesterol so dramatically as it was still too high when I was on a higher dose of statins. My worry is that they say if you have other risk factors for heart disease or stroke your will benefit from statins. As I have diabetes and high blood pressure then maybe I should take them. Although my BG is also around the 130/70 mark so I dont really still have high BP. I just dont like being medicalised. The problems with cramps is the statins have can have this affect on muscle tissue and, as my doctor pointed out, the heart is a muscle so if the statins are causing unusually high muscle contractions they can be dangerous. If you dont have cramps dont worry. My cramps started about 3 years ago and were a nightly screaming session but a lot better now. I will go back on the statins this month to see if the cramps return then I can see if there is a causal effect. i.e. take statins have cramps, stop statins stop cramps. I will also do a double blind by taking the soap out of the bed so I will know whether I still have cramps or not. Complicated but it is our health and I dont like taking something that might do more harm than good.
