Decided on chicken with roasted cauliflower and green beans, delicious. Never roasted cauliflower before, just brushed with olive oil and roasted for 30 minutes, such a lovely nutty flavour, delicious.

I am in week four now and I have only lost 1lb since week two after losing an incredible 8.5 lb in two weeks. I am sticking to the diet and to be honest feel quite in control of my eating. Went to my brothers at the weekend and he brought out a big box of marks and spencer chocolate biscuits and I didn’t even think about having one whilst I drank my glass of water. It is really quite liberating not having the sugar addiction I had prior to starting this diet. Just made the low carb pizza for my tea using cauliflower rice and it was absolutely delicious. My painful knee is recovering so I am going to start walking next week and hope that helps kick start some more weight loss. Just hope I can keep my resolve and positivity through this plateau. Reading the success stories on here proves that this diet works. I am a person who does need to learn the art of patience so I will use this to learn from. My official four week weigh in will be next Saturday morning. I wish I hadn’t got on the scales to check my progress this morning and I will learn from that too! I must keep to once a week weigh ins and then I won’t get disheartened mid week if the scales are not showing a loss.

I have a similar good news story. I’ve had Rheumatoid Disease for 10 years, the severity and symptoms fluctuate. In the past ive been treated with various drugs, including chemotherapy ones, and biologics. Late last year my symptoms were getting worse and it was looking like I’d have to go back onto a more aggressive treatment (I’m currently managing with prednisone and pain meds). Anyway, to cut a long story short I saw my specialist today and she said my blood test results were excellent. Also my pain has greatly reduced over the past few weeks and my energy levels have increased. She asked me what I had been doing and I told her about BSD. She then spoke about the connection between body fat and inflammation levels, and said that while diet won’t cure my disease, the more weight I can lose the easier it will be to manage. The good news is that I don’t need to start back on more agressive treatments at the moment, I just have to “keep doing what I’m doing”. When I’ve lost 10kg I can start reducing the prednisone I’m on. Interestingly I was the 2nd person she’d seen that day who had started the BSD, lost weight and was feeling better ๐Ÿ™‚
Amazingly I’ve only been doing this for just less than 3 weeks. I lost 2.3kg in the first week but only 200 GRAMS the 2nd week, and looking like only 1/2kg for this week.
Sorry for the long post but I guess the point I am trying to make here is that there are other benefits to this WOL – it’s not just about the number on the scales each week ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello All – this is great to have a forum with everyone’s advice and individual journeys including slip ups and good days and more difficult ones!!

Jacks those flapjacks are so delicious I slipped up – had friends over last Sunday – they all loved them but I had the left over “granola” in a small bowl in the fridge.
I had been out for lunch and shared a salad with a friend but really had so little – by the time I got home around 4pm I thought I couldn’t wait for dinner!!!
Found that granola and didn’t stop till the whole bowl was finished. I was so upset with myself – I ate what I worked out to be about 2600 calories that day and since I’m only in my second week – thought it was all a disaster!!!!
Today got up and just from reading the forums thought – ok I’m not alone – back to onward and downward mode from today – not the end of the world.

In just the short time I’ve been on the BSD I actually have more energy and the promise of good health is enough to keep me on the straight and narrow + hope to lose 3kgs by my next weigh in day to start the third week.

Hi all, so good to read all your comments, they come into my email box so i read while at work, but only get to reply at lunch or evening’s which are always hectic!

Seems like there are All kinds of different experiences. I an week 4 day 5, I’m a bit disappointed to have only lost 1/2 pounds so far this week ( 2 yesterday but gone up by one again today) (I don’t usually lose over the weekend) but I also feel guilty for saying that, as I have lost 16/17 in total, and I am not doing any exercise except my usual 9000 ish steps per day, and I can see many of you who are sticking rigidly aren’t losing lots at all.

But looking at the positives. Lots more of my clothes are fitting better, I did go and buy a beautiful dress in the sales to wear this weekend and will wear and feel fabulous on Saturday night. I have lost another half inch around neck, waist and hips in the last 10 days. 2.5″in total, 2″ more to be in the safe waist measurement.

My ex husband phoned me up and asked me to email him the link to my latest “fad diet” as it was obviously working….backhanded compliment if ever there was one! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have a kid free weekend, so wine planned for tonight with my favourite aunt, and then this 21St party tomorrow night (my friends daughter, I am 44!)

Must, must must get out and do some exercise at some.point, does walking round the shops count?

After a bit of lurking thought I’d sign up. Diagnosed just before Christmas and agreed with GP that I’ll try the diet control route. Started at just over 19 stone and lost over nine pounds in two weeks, but if my night-time activities are anything to go by, a lot of that is water!

Seems like a great bunch on here – good luck everyone!

    Hi Miles Teg

Welcome and well done for losing the 9lbs – that’s great. You are in good company on this site – full of support and tips and honest postings. There are also some links to great recipes which I am finding really helpful. If you have the time it’s worth reading posts from a while back to see how folks who have done the whole 8 weeks have got on. It’s definitely a journey and a change of lifestyle.

Personally I’ve thrown away the scales as I found lack of weight loss was de-motivating me. I’ve been much better sticking to the plan without them and can feel the inches coming off and the health benefits already. It’s a great plan – best of luck : )

Hope your next weigh in goes well. It’s all going in the right direction with your energy levels increasing. End of week 5 for me with weigh in tomorrow. I don’t feel any different this week but I’ve been bang on with calories and carbs, so who knows.

Fellnoff the wagon badly -white wine (LARGE quantity ๐Ÿ˜”) didn’t eat carbs but way over calories 3 days. Was pretty dejected anyway as only lost a pound last week. It feels like the weight loss is starting to drag and slow. The break in the 800 calories has made me crave carbs and really hungry again. Trying to refocus and just hoping that my fall from grace doesn’t have to big an impact and losses ramp back up next week

My weigh in after 5 weeks

Total loss 18lbs and 10cm off my waist
    In New money 8.2kg loss

Started at 93.1 and now 84.9k
Also blood pressure gone down from 131/100
    To amazing 121/80

I have also had 5 days where I happily went dark side and consumed 2300 cals each day inc some carbs like wine potatoes

So 35 days in I’m beyond ecstatic and I don’t feel guilty about consuming 2500 cals today at Simple Minds Concert at local winery and it will be 33c !!

Tomorrow and rest of working week will average 800-950 cals a day

So my message is don’t worry about a slip up
However don’t go mental just because you slip up and eat 4000 cals and a loaf of toast lol

Get back on focus, read the forums, read the book and 800 is 800

Plenty of water and chewing gum helps me

Next mini target is to be in the 11s and bmi out of the obese range and into the overweight range.

All I can say is so far so good and keep on keeping on.

A good weekend sticking to the diet which is amazing for me, weekends are usually disastrous, with wine and too much food. Large mushroom, tomato and scrambled egg for breakfast with 2 long blacks and a splash of milk, lunch was an apple and a mandarin, the one thing I miss so much is fruit, which I could easily live off. The mangoes, peaches, nectarines and apricots are all in season here, its so difficult to say no. Well the only saving grace is that I have dropped a dress size. Trouble is as I am no longer eating masses of fruit I have had to resort to buying psyllium husk, the exercise, extra veg, loads of water does not help me in the bowel department.

Oh well, 1 kg found it’s way back, but when I measured my waist there was no change there. That felt good. My biggest concern now is that my old friend Mr. Sugar Craving is back in town. I suspect this next week will feel a bit like the first one.

I’m back on track and ready for the next 3 weeks of mostly 800 kcal. So inspiring to read all your stories.

Week four completed and 12.5 lb gone. My goal for this week is to count calories carefully. I am ok with watching the carb count but don’t give enough attention to the calorie count. The diet goes against all the “rules” of other diets I have done that I still find it hard to come to terms with this way of eating. My colleagues at work are all doing slimming world and we are eating the total opposites of each other! They think my diet is weird! I am very happy that this way of eating is helping me lose weight. Almost one stone down and two more to go! I am still very much in control and despite having three meals out this week, lost 3lb. How good is that! If I can lose weight doing this then anybody can lose weight- it has previously taken me five months to lose 12lb with either Weightwatchers or slimming world. I am going away for a couple of nights in March to Harrogate after my eight weeks on BSD 800 and my plan is to have those three days “off” and then will be back on plan again until my summer holiday in June. It will be interesting to see what my body tells me to do off plan! I will not be jumping on the scales now til next Sunday. I got on this week on Thursday and was still the same weight as last week, felt upset all day and spoilt my day off and then on my official weigh day has lost 3lb. Lesson learnt! Have a good week everyone. X

I’ve just completed five weeks (started 2nd January), and I’ve lost a total of 20lbs, so I’m quite pleased. I’m not counting carbs at all, just calories and following the GI index, keeping under 50 – as far as I can tell a low GI also means low carbs. As I live by myself I can’t be bothered to cook fancy meals so I’m eating mainly eggs, prawns, salmon, cod and chicken, full fat yoghurt and berries – with 25g of cheddar cheese when I make myself an omelette. I’ve bought Birds Eye frozen vegetables as they’re packaged individually and cook for three minutes in the microwave, they’re ok and I add some mixed herbs, or paprika to spice them up a bit. Also plenty of salads and an apple a day – can’t manage without my apple! I only eat between 12.00pm and 7.00pm and so far I haven’t felt hungry at all. Slipped off the wagon twice – once when I bought my eight year old twin granddaughters chicken breasts from KFC, one of them decided she didn’t like them and I couldn’t bring myself to throw them away so I ate all three! I was horrified when I checked on Google later to see they each contained over 300 calories…… I won’t be doing that again. The second time was when I cooked them a pizza, they had apparently had cake and all sorts at their after school club as it was someone’s birthday, so they weren’t hungry – so I managed to eat 75% of the pizza. Unfortunately I belong to the generation where you were made to clean your plate, and didn’t waste food. I think the moral of the story is not to feed my granddaughters!

Thank you shrinkme81 I’m following the diet to the letter, other than I’m not drinking enough water. I have noticed better losses on the days I have drunk more water, so the theories on this diet about fat loss do seem to be correct.

I have a lot of weight to lose (165 lbs) so for me and others in this position it’s going to be important to keep the motivation up over a long period. I live alone, so there is no one to keep me motivated.

I don’t know how other people tackle this, but I have set myself three goals and I’m only aiming for the first one first. This should be acheived by the beginning of April so not too long, and I have a holiday in April to aim for.

I have started a diary on my iPad, recording how I feel and adding photos. I have also pasted photos of myself at lower weights, including me at each of my 3 target weights so I know roughly what I should look like at each stage and what clothes I’m likely to fit into.

I have sorted out my clothes and packed away smaller sizes into bags and stored them away. I only kept the nice stuff I have given away the rest. The only clothes hanging in my wardrobe now do fit me, which makes me feel better in the mornings. As I shrink out of these, they will be given away or the nicer items sold on eBay.

This may sound silly, but it really has helped me to visualise my own body and why I’m doing this. I had got into a state of denial about my weight gain, and now I really do get it that I was obese ! I have been avoiding mirrors and cameras for a long time. It does help to be in touch with your body and your feelings, even if it is painful.

Slow start but have commited to my second lot of eight weeks. I’m now into my second week. Lost 7lb week one, keen to shed the xmas gain, so I was pleased with that.
My goal is to lose two stone by April 18th.
I had a sort out of my clothes a few days ago, bagging up what doesn’t fit. Purchased a few items that actually fit me now from a charity shop without shying away from the changing room mirror when I tried them on….

You write in such a motivated way and it seems to me like you are going along so well with your 3 goals that you’ve set yourself and your weight loss so far.

I’ve done weight watchers several times before and can’t maintain my determination at all. This BSD way of life I actually feel completely differently about. I feel much much better emotionally and my arthritis isn’t bothering me so much. Week four starts tomorrow and my three boys have all lost weight and hubby as well. His blood pressure is improving and he looks great, the belly is disappearing and he is standing up straighter, having lost 9 kg. My weight loss has stagnated a bit at 5kg and my waist measurement seems to waiver up and down. My biggest issue is that I keep feeling nauseas. Is anyone else getting that? It’s not that I can’t manage it but obviously I would like to not be feeling ill. It isn’t all the time, but it is quite often. All the boys are having the day off the diet today as they are Patriots fans and have been celebrating. I expect they will all be unconscious by the time I get home from work, since they got up at 4am, so will just have to feed hubby and myself tonight. Haven’t had a dud meal yet and the kids are enjoying them too. They all take turns to cook.
Keep at it everyone. I wouldn’t say it is easy but certainly feeling the benefits and with a daughter just becoming engaged, her Dad and Mum will be looking good by the time that comes around. Woohoo!

    Hi Everyone!

I’m now in my 4th week and overall down from 97.8kg to 92.5kg so a total loss of 5.3kg or just under 12lbs in total.
Had a blip last week on a work trip to Tokyo – very impolite to not eat what’s been ordered for you, so ended up eating more carbs than usual due to rice and ended 1.6kgs up on when I left, but back on track again now! Hoping to see my first stone loss before next weigh in.

I know many people have found a plateau in the last 4 weeks of this, is there any way to predict if your loss should continue or will it slow significantly? Ideally I’m hoping to be 10kg or 2 stone down by the end of the 8 weeks. But not sure if that is possible? That would take me down to 85kg which although not completely where I want to be, would see me back in the majority of my wardrobe and a size 12 (I’m 5ft 9 and athletic frame)

I haven’t started exercising again fully yet, but am redecorating the house and the sole carer for our 5 month old puppy at the moment so fairly active with lots of walks etc. Hoping to be back in the gym this week too.

I am not pre-diabetic so confess I have been using diet coke as a way to keep my energy up, and have cheated occasionally with a glass of prosecco – which incidentally is very low carb! Also have been rationing green & blacks chocolate – 3 squares = 57 calories and only 4grams of carbs. Other than that I am finding this way of eating all fine so far.

Anyone any tips for the next 4 weeks?

    Jess

    Hi Jess,

If my experience is anything to go by, then sadly there doesn’t appear to be a perfect way to predict weight loss. I’ve had long periods where my weight has stayed the same but I have lost inches from my waist and vice versa. Ten suddenly the weight drops.

So the advice is really just to keep the faith.

Every sympathy with the Tokyo trip: been there, eaten (and drunk) that, definitely not BSD friendly – remember they mean well ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Great name by the way.

Yes on Tokyo – no way to really explain BSD there!

I’m about 5.5cms down on my waist so far too, but haven’t been taking other measurements. Perhaps I’ll start and that way can track these even if no ‘weight’ in terms on numbers on the scales shows as a loss.

Thanks for the tip! Love reading these forums for support too, but don’t often post.

    Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing ok! Well I had my first major victory this week in that I went shopping and all my purchases were a size smaller! I was a size 18, and wearing a 20 in some stores, and everything I have purchased this weekend gone is a 16. I’m absolutely made up. I was so happy trying everything on, I knew that there would still be some shops where the 16’s were too small and there were, but coming away with nice black trousers and new pyjamas and actually getting bras that fit, I was so pleased!

I had some wine/fizz this weekend as I had lunch out with my mum and had a relaxed weekend but food was on point (calories over though because of the wine). Back on the wagon now until holiday on the 18th… I used to be a really heavy drinker, easily a bottle a night if not more, but somehow the wine didn’t taste like it did and I felt like I had cheated myself. Back onto the wagon tonight and back on the peppermint tea – I’ve missed it!

Total loss since 3rd Jan – 1st 2lb so really pleased and down to 13st 11lb… I would like to get to 13st 9lb before I go away, 13st 6lbs really but that’s asking a lot…. but with focus and planning…. I can do this..!!

    Much love to you all,

Demotivated -if I can drop 2 lbs next week I’ll get 1 and 1/2 stone gone and into next stone. Also creeping ever closer to going from Obese BMI to mere Overweight!!!
Learnt that over indulging reawakens carb cravings, emotional eating and hunger pangs. Went for a drink with same colleagues I was with last week when I shared the wine, and sipped my coffee whilst they drank 2 bottles of a rather lovely white. On a week long work trip and today’s food from m&s actually came in under 50g CARBS despite containing rice, quinoa and cous cous. All round a good day-phew

Hi everyone, Week5Day1. No loss this week. Same as almost everyone else. Still I’m in this for the long haul and I’m not letting the scales dictate my mood. Keeping to 900-1000cals as I know I would start doing the start again tomorrow thing if I feel hungry and cheat. As it is I feel quite comfortable on this Woe. I had to buy a size 18 swimming costume last week and now bagged all my size 20 clothes for charity shop. I miss my apple but decided not to buy any until end of February and then stick to only one a day. I managed my birthday without the slice of fruit cake I’d bought for the occasion and went without the glass of wine I usually have. I only drink about 6 glasses a year anyway so I didn’t miss it. I believe if I keep off the pasta, biscuits, pastry the weight will eventually come off. Love reading the posts though and everyone’s journey. Good luck till next week.

    Hi All

Once again some great losses and encouraging posts!

I can’t believe I’m still losing – by this stage every other time I’ve tried to lose weight I have lost my way and either stalled or gained.

I’m trying my hardest to stay around 800 cals and as low carb as possible but have had wine over the weekend (nowhere near as much as usual though!). I usually weigh in on a Sunday but to make sure I don’t go mad with food and drink over the weekend I have a sneaky weigh in on a Friday. If I’ve lost, it encourages me to stay on the straight and narrow and – although it’s not happened yet – if I have a gain or stay the same, I’m hoping it will make me stop and think I need to take care in order to show a loss on Sunday. That’s the theory anyway!

    Wishing everyone a great week!

Good luck Andy Tots – this is definitely doable and you’re in the right place for encouragement. There are some brilliant role models on these forums with great weight losses and reduction of diabetes drugs and some members even reversing their diabetes. We’re so lucky to have found this!!

Like you I am missing apples- I treat myself to one apple a week and dip it into some Greek yoghurt and have some walnuts and it is such a treat! Who would have thought that something as simple as eating an apple would be such a lovely treat. I am really enjoying the healthy respect I have developed for the lovely food I am eating.

    End of Week 5
I’m up the scale 2 pounds, but down 2 inches on my waist. I couldn’t believe it when I saw that! So hopefully the scale will get back to downward momentum, but I’m still losing fat.

Still at around 25 # lost, 4 inches off waist, down one pant size and this next size is getting looser.

My triumph of this week was getting through Mexican dinner out staying on track (ordered chicken fajitas and only ate half with guacamole and sour cream, no tortillas or chips) and then having only ONE unsweetened drink at the bar afterwards while my compatriots each had five. (It was my husband’s 40th birthday. I wouldn’t normally tempt myself in that way!)

Favorite tip of the week: I’ve been forcing myself to drink my coffee black in the mornings so that if I’m out at night I can order a decaf coffee with cream and it feels completely indulgent, so I don’t miss drinking alcohol or eating appetizers as much.

Second favorite tip: Zinc tablets work wonders on colds! So glad I found out about that.

TumTump, I look forward to seeing if anyone has some good data about losing the pants sizes, because it seems like a big mystery to me. My body is reshaping itself in unpredictable ways. My waist was the same for what felt like forever and then suddenly started dropping inches, while my belly, which has dropped in the past didn’t change at all. I can’t figure it out.

I was just reading some Michael Mosley tweets, he specifically says apples (and pears) are fine because they have lots of fibre which changes the way you process the sugar/carbs in them. Berries are good because they are low sugar. Big no to tropical fruit like melons, mangoes, bananas and pineapple.

    Hi LizV
I don’t get the dress size thing at all! Someone told me earlier a dress size is about 10lb so I should’ve lost 2?! I can see a difference under my boobs and small reduction in tummy- had a hysterectomy last January and tummy got lots bigger. But my coat is still way to tight across my bottom, if I put gloves in my pocket I struggle to zip it shut! I think I must have carried the 20lb on my fingers, toes and ear lobes!! Or knees?! HOPE I drop a size soon. Would be lovely to buy an 18 trouser and not have to order an 18 and just in case 20!

Hi All, day 1 of week 5 for me too, have decided I need to change my weigh in day to a Friday! The weekend slip ups have got worse, which has meant the 3 pound loss of the last week has been revised back to just 1! That’ll learn me *wink*

So very difficult today to get back on the 800 cals wagon, and as others have noted, the sugar and carb cravings have come back with a vengeance. But I have 4 weeks to make some significant progress.

In terms of clothing size, I have lost 15 pounds, and would say I have gone down from a 16 to a 14 (UK) but the smaller 14’s still need me to lose a few more pounds, I guess we are all different. The aim though is to get back into all my 12’s, I know I need to be a good stone lighter to start fitting into them.

Less booze on the weekends has to be my target for the next 7 days.

Massive heartfelt congrats to all of you managing to stick to it more stringently than me, commiserations to those less strong willed, but we will all get there in our own time….Hopefully sooner and with less bumps in the road!

I think the 10lbs for a dress size guidance is for ladies who are only a little overweight anyway. Those with a lot more to lose will have to lose more weight to drop a dress size. Well done those of you shopping for the next size down ! I have now lost 6.8lbs but think I will need to lose another 12-14 lbs before I drop a dress size.
