Day 38 in the BSD house.

Really savoured my 9 g piece of 85% cocoa Green and Black’s. Rather than having it with a cup of tea like I do lesser chocolate (cadbury’s or lindt) I let it slowly melt on the tongue (like they advise you do with “good” chocolate) and it was quite satisfying, though less “quick hit” than I am used to.

I guess the trick will be to avoid the “quick hits” and learn to live without them. Make smarter, better choices…..one day at a time.

I am trying/thinking/discovering new things daily, and I know that I am going to change my mind/opinion A LOT and I will contradict myself on occasions but who doesn’t?. I am being flexible, not rigid (except for alcohol!)

Hoping those who need epiphanies have them…and for those who don’t think they need one; keep an open mind.

Pinch, punch first of the month….

So that’s July done and apart from 1 night in Galway I’ve remained dry. So that’s another £60 to go in the Canada dream jar. This is getting expensive!! May have to do a set amount moving forward when I hit target 🎯

So, weighed myself yesterday and I didn’t gain after all. I’m now 141lbs or 10 stone 1lb which puts me very close to my goal of being under 10 stone.

    How’s everyone doing today?

    Thanks FFBB.

So glad you enjoyed the choccy! I have a 70% green and blacks in the cupboard for emergencies 🤣
6 squares come in at 120 cals. I’ve only “broken” once but it was counted in my allowance for the day. Like you, I really savoured it, even though I’m also a Lindt girl (or hotel chocolat dizzy praline- they are to die for!)

LOL Joes Nonna, the glass of vomit made me laugh! I will definitely try that trick next time I’m tempted!
I’m on day four of The Restart and so far so good! No alcohol, not even a twinge of desire for any! No carbs, sticking to the plan and have lost 3 pounds so very happy!
Please don’t worry too much about gaining a pound, it’s much more likely to be water retention and it will hopefully disappear quickly. Hope the root canal work has settled down, a horrible thing to have to go through.
EC did you find a lovely splashback? It will be great having a new kitchen and it sounds like you are coping well with the renovations!
Hi Augurswelljan, hope you are going well, and good luck de-ginning!
Hope everyone else is having a good week

Good morning all! Actually not so good here …. Last night we were tip-toing around the kitchen which was swimming in water. Hubby had put fibrous stuff down the sink waste disposal and the drain blocked and came cascading into the kitchen. Bleh! We’ve tipped a load of drain unblocker stuff down the plug hole but are feeling very nervous about turning the tap on again to see whether it’s worked.
Now, ordinarily we would both have been reaching for a bottle and glass but after a very virtuous day I was determined not to waver and had a glass of fizzy water instead to wash the aspirin down (stress/wthdrawal headache). Hubby followed my lead.
On a positive note I am 0.6kg lighter this morning and had a very deep sleep. There’s always a positive somewhere.
    Have fun today everyone xx

Sorry to hear about the water issues, Auguswelljan. Hope the Draino does the job!

I’m not doing so well myself. Can’t seem to stay down to 800 calories. More like 1000. It seems my body wants to be on a maintenance of sorts. Will try to get at least one day at 800 or less during a week.

Hugs to all, you seem to be doing well.

Day 39 in the BSD house.

Not much to report today, stuck to my W.O.E and I have thrown 18:6 I.F into the mix from today. I have a couple of very early appointments coming up and I generally require 60 minutes after eating in a morning before I can comfortably leave the house and I don’t fancy getting up at 5 am so I figured this was a good opportunity to try something new and it makes sense.

I skip breakfast already on a Friday and cope without it so this is just an extension of that. I can still have my 2 cups of tea with full fat milk before I go out (I’m not a complete saint, I need my builders brew!) and this should mean that my system will use more of my vast stores of fat for energy to get me through to lunch.

    Here’s hoping. 🤞🤞

    Hey Babes,
My sons are in from Vancouver and my feet haven’t touched the floor. My oldest son is an award winning chef and made me scallops on a cauliflower “risotto’ bed. FUCKING FABULOUS!!! everyone else had proper risotto but mine was lovely. The only squeaky moment I had was after dinner. We had a fire going in the kitchen….as it was frigging 14 degree C!!! (Canadian summer), music was playing, lights were dimmed, we were in the comfy armchairs, and they were all enjoying their wine and I was on the tea. I just linked arms with you and got on with sorting the kitchen. Four cups of tea later I was fine. The moment the boys saw me at the airport they both said “OH MY GOD MUM YOU LOOK AMAZING!!!! SO HEALTHY!!! YOUNGER!!!” That made not drinking much much easier.
So much love for you all.
I have to go back and catch up on what’s been going on! Tomorrow we head up to the cottage and on Saturday we are hosting a party for about 50 to celebrate being on the island 60 years. Big pig roast and salads. It will be hard work but worth it. Looking forward to Monday to put my feet up and have a visit with you all.
Hang in there chicks. We are doing this and we’re kicking the shit out of the BSD. We’re the boss of the diet– it’s not the boss of us. We have the power of choice. There is no right or wrong but only what is right for you. Be mindful.
    Much love,

Liz what can I say …. Social occasions are the most difficult and you succeeded. Power to you I say!
For me …. Diet OK, healthy but not 800 calories but still within the realms of diet. No junk, no sugar, just good healthy food. Bad day at work (I’m in sales and it’s always focused on targets, targets, targets). At my age I don’t need it really (68 next birthday) but it buys our luxuries and holidays (and gin). However despite the stress I DID NOT DRINK! I reckon I should save a bundle if this can continue.
Added bonus – I am 0.3kg lighter. Woohoo!
Have a good day all and enjoy your time with your boys Liz. Xx

What a lovely picture you painted Liz , enjoy every minute with those wonderful Sons of yours , just remember we’re all coming up to be with you just in case you’re tempted , ( actually it’s because that party sounds …….. brilliant ) , we will all help you Celebrate being on the Island for 60 years , no doubt there will be the odd swilling of tea , can’t wait 😊
Wouldn’t mind if a few scallops on a bed of cauliflower risotto found their way up there either .
I’ve had a good day food wise , & had a lovely walk in the sun , & managed to choose the Crystal Clear Aqua off the ‘ Wine List ‘ .
I decided I should actually produce a Wine List to go with our Food Menu , so I felt there was a choice .
I have to admit I pondered for a while before making the choice , as there were some good wines on the list , and a bottle of Moët , which caught my eye , but I wasn’t prepared to pay up !
I suggested to my darling Husband , that if I chose the wine or the bubbles I had to pay him for it , he did the costing , you should have seen the prices , exorbitant to say the very least , as I did remind him , not as if we were in some fancy Restaurant , plus I had done all the preparing , &’the cooking , anyway I thought stuff it , I’d just have the Crystal Clear Aqua , it was a very nice drop too , so I ordered another , then another , no headache for me in the morning , & calorie free ! Bonus 😊
Good to hear how everyone else is going , sounds like we are all kicking butt , let the trend continue .
( Must not run out of food though L ) 😊

G’s day ladies, good to hear that things are going well for everyone and that temptations are being resisted.

I’m finding that a few more carbs of the good sort (porridge, chia seeds, Psyllium husk) are helping the Whoosh Fairy to visit more often, which make me feel much better. Worth the extra couple of hundred calories a day I reckon. If I manage most days to stay below 1000 and for a couple of days below 800 then I’m happy for the time being. I had to resort to some rice crackers today to quell the gastric reflux after a very strong, full strength coffee. Back to decaf for me I think.

Liz I could just see you all cozy with the family. Sounds like mine when I am home in the UK with big bro and sister and their offspring. I do miss them more as I get older. As for your sons’ reactions, I’m glad they noticed and were so impressed. Good boys. And the island celebration sounds fun too. I’m sure you will be too busy making sure everyone has enough to eat to be tempted by anything other than lots of salad and a bit of roast meat with copious droughts of water and tea. I hope the weather works for you on the day.

Lee, fancy running out of food! I run out of good stuff because I can’t be arsed to go to the shops. Always plenty of naughtyish stuff in the cupboards if all else fails. I need to spend Sunday doing a big cook so that I have plenty in the freezer to avoid temptation next week.

Off to Sydney tomorrow night, cauliflower and capsicum soup in hand with bits for Saturday lunch. Will take a can of beans I think so that I am not starving on the trip home. H I will be hooking into the aqua on Saturday and as I drive to and fro. It helps me not get so hungry I could open the frig and inhale whatever food is in front of me.

    Catch up soon

Hello my fellow BSDers, What wonderful news you all have. Liz your sons obviously take after their mamma, to be so observant and thoughtful. You all seem to be on top with food etc, and resisting Satan’s Piss.

I have such an imagination…I can see the kitchen and feel the love. Also for those trying the Vomit in a wine glass system. I not only can visualise it, but I dry heave when I think about it as I can smell it and see its texture. Including the bits of carrot and tomato that you don’t remember eating. Sorry got to stop now. Hope it helps.

I have been looking after my lovely toddlers today so now I am exhausted. Joe is going to cook Smoked Haddock with vegetables for our evening meal. God Bless that man!

    Good luck and stay true.

Day 40 in the BSD house.

Slightly over calories but had a “hungry” day.

Not much else to report really with regards to W.O.E.

However on the life front I had 2 phone interviews today for different companies, one from a job I hadn’t applied for (he saw my CV on a website and rang me “cold”) and got through to 2 face to face interviews next Monday and Tuesday.

The “cold” job is only 6 miles away from where I live but as I am reliant on public transport it will take an hour (including waiting for a connecting bus as it is 2 buses) to get there. To put that in context that is how long it takes to get to Leeds (28 miles) by train. Also early buses are less often so to start that job at 8 am I will have to leave home at 6.30. This is something I need to discuss in the interview. I need to know if there is wiggle room with the shift start time as the guy I spoke to didn’t know.

The other is 30 minutes and one bus ride away and slightly less money and shifts from 8.30 am-8.30 pm and every other Saturday (with advanced warning so I can plan meals).

Either way I am looking at it as an excellent opportunities to get more interview experience.

    That’s all.

FFBB, how far away is the stop where you transfer to the second bus? I lived for many years without a car and having to get connecting buses often lengthens the trip to an annoying degree. If you could cut out the first bus by walking to the second, you might whittle down the commute to a more sensible length while at the same time going a long way to getting in your 10,000 steps a day. Then you’d be making more money, working closer to home and reaching your exercise goals in one fell swoop.

If the distance seems overwhelming now, it won’t for long. When I started the BSD a year ago, I could barely walk around the block without having to stop halfway through to catch my breath like I’d run a marathon. Now I walk 6-8 miles a day without any fatigue whatsoever, even in the parched, sunbaked hell of summer in the Deep South. It’s very easy to achieve fast and durable fitness results when you have a daily walking schedule.

Good luck on your upcoming interviews!

Good luck anyway , and great that you’ve kicked booze to the curb for 4 days & sleeping for England 👍
The four bus trips per day could be a bit of a nuisance , and the cost over time all add up , then if one is running late , may cause you to miss the 2 nd ….
Wow to you Esnecca for your impressive daily walking 👌
Yes Nonna Mary , must say I preferred the glass or 2 of crystal clear Aqua , to that thick sloppy multi coloured glass of vomit you had me imagining , think I’m onto it , will let you all know if I’m tempted & succumb !
In the 3 weeks since I joined you all , I’ve lost 2.6 pounds all up , 1st fortnight better than this week past , but will plug on .

Hi everyone. There seems so much dedication here it’s inspirational. H66 my first week is proving very positive with a small loss every day (another 0.3kgs today bringing me to 1.2kgs so fathis week) but I know that losing at this rate won’t continue and by the second/third week it will dwindle to 0.5kg a week if I’m lucky.
Esnecca 6-8 miles a day!? Where do you find the time and the energy? I do walk most days as I have a dog and he likes nothing more than his constitutional but it is rarely more than half an hour and often less. Still a little is better than none.
The best think of all is that I am still booze free. My husband is very impressed and is taking my lead a bit – he’s cut down though I suspect tonight will change that as it’s Friday beer with the blokes tonight. My weekend will be a test. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Essnecca Hi, basically the journey is A to C to get to B. I have to travel 5 miles by the first bus, in the opposite direction to the job (if I drove) to get a bus to travel 11 miles to the job. Then when I get off the 2nd bus it is a 15 minute walk to the office. The joys of living in the country. I don’t mind the 15 minutes walk but walking 5 miles to the 2nd bus isn’t viable for me.

H66 Hello, That is my worry as well. where I live there are always temporary traffic lights so peak time buses rarely run to time. Both jobs will have the same travel costs due to weekly ticket price. Plus the 2nd bus is run by a smaller firm who are not as reliable as First buses.

On the weight front, I have not lost this week which I blame squarely on my cycle (got my period).

We seem to be scattered far and wide but all have one common aim to get healthier, trim down and train the alcohol consumption to a more reasonable level. I have no desire to go completely T total but would like to control it rather than be controlled by it.
Today I have a bit of a challenge as we are meeting lots of like-minded friends at a favourite pub which serves craft gins and fantastic cask ale. Well done Augurs for using tactics to help you abstain. I nearly bought a bottle today, but decided I would wait as I have a ‘day’ with my son in law and his family. If I really want it, I can have it tomorrow (but I probably won’t). Like you I am not looking for abstinence for ever, But TWO bottles of wine every night to myself was bordering on alcoholic. A little voice nagged me to have it even it I didn’t want it. If I can control it great, but one leads to two with me. Enjoy your night out.

Day 41 in the BSD house.

Today’s food has been more LCHF rather than BSD.

My body seemed to want fatty food, well it wanted crunchy, fatty and salty food. Seriously, I spent 10 minutes in the crisp aisle in Morrisons torn between prawn Seabrook and sour cream & chive Pringles and I had to douse my mum’s leftover chips with pepper at lunch so I didn’t eat the lot.

I tossed a coin and it fell on chicken thighs with garlic dip so that is what I had for tea. It satisfied the fatty urge but not the crunchy urge. Weighed the tub of dip before and after so I know how much I ate and washed the rest away down the sink I can have the leftover thighs over the next few days.

I tried Morrisons 85 % cocoa chocolate, it is nowhere near as nice as Green and Black’s so I guess Green and Black’s is now my “go to” chocolate (makes sense as I always use G & B’s cocoa when I bake my rich chocolate orange buns).

    Happy Friday peeps.

I agree Mary and Augurs, I have no desire to never drink again but I am looking to cut way down…and I have.

We need a roll call now, there are so many of us! I love how we have grown. Welcome newbies. This bunch could and do move mountains….

The lovely red painters are in. Men don’t realise how lucky they are!! I always struggle with pain and combined with my back pain, I’m not in for a fun weekend!!!

Will probably do lchf over the weekend. I need the extra calories to cope with the pain tablets and the ole body needs to get used to more without gaining back, so this will be a good test for me and maintenance planning. I used to use booze to help me handle the pain and ensure I got to sleep. Now, the very idea of it makes me queasy. Double that now thanks to Mary Nonna! I never planned to go tee total but it seems that’s where this road has taken me. Who knew?

Currently cuddled under the duvet watching the world championship athletics. I’m going next week and should get to see Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt in their final races which I’m very excited about!

What plans do we all have for the weekend?!

There are many different types of pork scratchings / pork rinds. I like some made by a local butcher, very real, and not too salty, but there are some excellent varieties out there as well, just check that there are no carbs in them. Salt is useful on this way of eating anyway as with the reduction of processed food you will be eating, and with the low carbs you will lose retained sodium and hence water, and you need to get extra from somewhere or you may become low in sodium. This is a well known low carb effect. You shouldn’t get cravings for salt unless you are low in sodium, unlike the carb ‘feedback loop’ where eating carbs makes you want more carbs.

What Mixnmatch said. Salt is your friend with this way of eating. I’ve noticed my sweat is way, way more salty than it used to be so it makes sense that I would frequently crave salt where before I was very sparing with it. I bought Maldon sea salt flakes recently and now I eat them straight out of the bag. Just a pinch, but oh man does that crunchy little pinch hit the spot.

On my way back home at the airport. I am truly looking forward to starting the WOE tomorrow. I am going on holiday (again!) in 5 weeks and I am determined to be a stone lighter when I get on the plane out. Not sure of the damage this holiday has done!!
I too don’t want to never drink again but just control it but I think I need to be teetotal for 5 weeks to achieve my target.
I have realised several things on holiday some not very pleasant. The OH will try and sabotage my plans as he also drinks a bottle a night. I have also realised he does not want me to lose weight, why he finds it so threatening I don’t know, so battle on two fronts, but forewarned is forearmed

    Have a good weekend everyone
    Mm

Welcome home Madmare. There are so many peoples on here now I don’t think I can mention everyone!
Bigbazookas, I would not be comfortable at a party like that lol….I don’t drink very much or at all if out socially as I don’t like making an idiot of myself in front of people. When I was 53 I got totally blathered when at dinner with an old friend who I hadn’t seen for 37 years. The result was that I haven’t seen or heard from them since. Which is a shame, because I hold fond memories of them, but I don’t blame them at all. I was way out of control.
LeeLee, I envy you seeing Bolt and Farah next week. I was screaming at the TV last night watching the race. Phew, my heart was racing with him!
H66, sorry if I have spoiled your drinking lol….but, I thought that was what you wanted. If you read other threads people cheat and still expect to lose weight. I can’t do that. I know that if I drink the empty, wasted calories will stick to my body like superglue. You can reverse the image if you really want to.
EC, you are an angel helping your friend. I hope she treasures you as she should. I think you can be forgiven for one G&T, but make sure it is only ONE!
Augurs, how did the evening go? Good I hope. I quite enjoy watching other people being stupid, and knowing I won’t feel ill the following day.
Mixnmatch, I love pork scratchings…KVE is my favourite brand.

I am off to my darling daughters house today for the joint toddlers birthday party. I have to assess one child as his mother is concerned about his development, since a ‘helpful’ relative said there may be something wrong. (I used to be a teacher). Unfortunately, my son in law will be there (well he lives there), and his family. He is a pain, but he isn’t too bad. Just an idiot and is fond of saying ‘I am only joking’, so I intend to be joking too!
Bugbears of mine….people saying….now don’t take offence (then don’t be offensive)….don’t take this the wrong way (if there is a wrong way don’t say it)…I am only joking (if you have to tell me you are joking it’s not funny). Do you have any? Please share…

Well, I am off for now. Take care everyone and enjoy something, even if it is only a bath, or painting your nails.

    Lots of love
    Nonna Mary

Madmare. It may be your husband is frightened of change in you and your life together. If you continue abstaining you may find he drinks less too. It’s not much fun drinking on your own and it takes away the confirmation that it’s ok to drink. My Jovis has not only stopped drinking, he has given up potatoes and rice. He still has bread though as he likes a sandwich. I would look at hubby with his drink and say. I do hope you enjoy that my love. Then leave it at that. What he does, is up to him. You are in control of what you put in your mouth. Stay strong. He will come around when he has a healthy, strong, sober wife to keep up with! You are wonderful. Remember that! We all have your back and you can link arms with us and drink tea in Lizzies kitchen.
Look forward to your next holiday…where are you going?

    Lots of love and support

Day 42 in the BSD house.

Feel better today, I have a bit more energy but I have increased my calories/fat/protein slightly. Still working on the balance.

Off for a walk to make the most of the sunshine.

I never cease to be amazed at how people, even those closest to us, can be so invested in the status quo that they actively work against our goals. Madmare, your husband doesn’t want to change, and every time you choose not to drink, it probably feels like an unspoken judgment on his choice to indulge. Sadly, that may be the best case scenario. The worst would be a desire to keep you unhealthy and despondent and therefore more attached to and dependent on him. That kind of dynamic is far from uncommon, I regret to say.

    Hiya peeps,

Well I made it through the day…son in law thanked me for helping to look after the children allowing them to mingle with guests!
Maybe he isn’t such an arse after all lol.

Sorry, but I ate cake…it was sweet and sickly and I had seconds. Sorry again. I never eat cake and I don’t like sweet stuff anyway, so I have no idea why I did it. Ho hum, back to normal tomorrow. Hope you are all well.

    Love,

Joes Nonna – people who say, just saying it like it is – like they think it is but no-one does. Also, just saying – yes we know you are stating the bleeding obvious you dont have to tell us. That’s 2 of mine.

Hi all, well made it through a trying day without resorting to wine and biscuits. Have to admit to being irritable but that has as much to do with quarrelsome kids and a house in turmoil due to decorating as anything. I have to say I have drawn inspiration today from the many wise words and bits of advice on here so thanks for that xx off now for my reward of a hot bath and lemon and ginger tea.
