    From the New York Times.
“It has been a fundamental tenet of nutrition: When it comes to weight loss, all calories are created equal. Regardless of what you eat, the key is to track your calories and burn more than you consume.

But a large new study published on Wednesday in the journal BMJ challenges the conventional wisdom. It found that overweight adults who cut carbohydrates from their diets and replaced them with fat sharply increased their metabolisms. After five months on the diet, their bodies burned roughly 250 calories more per day than people who ate a high-carb, low-fat diet, suggesting that restricting carb intake could help people maintain their weight loss more easily.”

This is another study that supports the lower carb approach to weight loss and maintenance. Its good to hear that what worked for us is not just smoke and mirrors but is supported by research.

Thank you for this post Jande9 — this is the media finally catching up to the large body of research supporting the renewed theory of HORMONES as crucial in weight loss — we are finally moving away (very very slowly) from the old calories in/calories out model that has dominated our thinking since World War 2.
Those of us here already know this from personal experience — and most of us are long long time dieters with little (or no) success until we found the BSD and low carb eating.
For further information, listen to podcasts from Dr. Bikman (insulin research) Jason Fung (fasting) and read Dr. Perlmutter’s book Grain Brain (neurologists point of view) and Gary Taubes “Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It “ (my personal favorite). All great further info on this issue!
