    Hello everyone

Some of us are struggling to get into the swing of things! Why is it so hard? Ive had another disappointment on the scales this morning. Ive had what I thought was a good week. Ive walked 7000 steps every day. Ive lowered my carbs and my weight is up by half a pound! I have written out a timeline for my weight loss over the next few months and end of February is supposed to read 158lb. Today it is 162! There is no way i can lose 4 lb before the end of next week! So disheartening! Just got to keep trying different things I suppose.

    Hi Shipmates!
NOKIEIm so sorry youre still in a lot of pain,I hope that changes for you asap 🙏 I have sciatica and the nerve pain and muscle spasms are the worst thing about it,theyre hard to deal with. Sending you hugs and saying dont worry too much about low carbs for now, think ‘ damage limitation’ and just try to eat carefully and make healthy choices while your body heals.Maybe throw in a treat, you deserve it XX
CCATHY The weather is so grey and its been so very cold. It makes me want to stay home, draw a chair up to the toaster and just live on hot buttery toast and pots of tea and other such comforts. You are being so good though with your walking and watching your carbs, you deserve to see the results you want, and its so frustrating to be only 4 lb away from the goal you have set. Maybe try weighing every day for the next week and you might find when you average it out at the end of the week that you are closer to that goal than you think? Got my fingers crossed for you! XX
Im supposed to be maintaining but Im having gooddays/ bad days, going up/ down a pound or two,but Im blaming it all on the weather, and me being in hibernating mode. I heard someone call hibernating “ “wintering” and I like that name.
DAWN and VERANO,Im glad to hear that your pain problems have settled down. The ship’s doctor is run off his feet looking after all our ailments! XX
DCT Im glad your sadmin jobs are coming to an end and I hope when retirement comes you can settle into a more leisurely pace of life.XX
I know theres more I want to say to everyone but I darent turn back a page to reread posts and lose this, but love to MARIET,SUE,POOTLE,HEIDI,FOXY,ANNIE,MIXNMATCH and everyone sailing on the high seas. On we go,onwards and downwards! XX

Dawn glad you are feeling better 🙂
Cathy – I can sympathise with you as my weight is staying the same despite walking 5-10,000 steps each day and definitely eating better than I was. I still have some room for improvement though so will knuckle down this week.
Thanks for your kind words as always Yowser!
And DCT hope you enjoy your half term break, how exciting for you that retirement is so close now!

    Hello everyone
Hope you’re all staying strong! We are nearly at the end of February so for those of us who’ve endured a long, dark and cold winter we are almost there and spring is around the corner! The feeling of having to get up on top deck in my swimwear has put a fear in me and today I’ve got out my original 2017 “8 week blood sugar diet” book off the bookshelf. I remember how excited I was to start this way of eating . My book club friend told me her mum lost 3 stone and I couldn’t wait to get started! Here I am in 2025 having been there and done that (lost three stone and put two back on) and tried so many times and keep going up and down the same few pound. I am totally fed up and so I’m going to go back to 800 calories for 8 weeks . I’ll be walking 7000 steps a day and like you said SueBlue I too still have room for improvement. I am going to aim to get into the 150s hopefully by the end of the first week in March . Could be a big ask as my weight had crept up even more last week. I hope to lose 4lb a month.
It’s been a difficult slog over the Cold January and February months- I’ve been living in my joggers and jumpers and nobody can see my bulges but I won’t be happy when the sunshine comes and I’ll be wanting to get into my my nice summer clothes . They don’t hide any of my bulges!
I hope like me that those of us who haven’t yet seen much success will feel motivated to dig deep and see the scales move in the right direction and our clothes to feel more comfortable.
I’m going to read the book again this afternoon and tomorrow is BSD day. I’ll report my weight on Friday.
Swimsuits at the ready everyone we will all be sunbathing on the top deck in June!

Hello everyone, and here we go for another week! Lovely to read all the recent posts and catch up with your news. Well done to those who are losing or maintaining, and hugs to all who are struggling with weight loss and/or medical issues. I am thinking of you all and hope that medical issues resolve soon so that you can feel some kind of control over eating and exercise again.

Apart from saying hello, this is just a quick post really to say that CATHY your post really resonated with me and I plan to up the ante this week too, and get back to basics. I just feel I’ve been coasting for this year so far. I’ve been in full on couch potato hibernation mode! Which is fine if that’s what I want to do – the whole point of this thread is to take things at our own pace rather than feel continually pressured or stressed about losing weight. But this weekend I felt a bit of a sea change – glimpsed myself in a full-length mirror and realised that the belly fat really does have to go. And also the fact that I now have less than 6 weeks to retirement, which is a new phase of life for me, and I’d somehow envisaged being at my long term target of 133lb by then, was a bit of a wake up call.

I’m wary of posting targets on here because I usually don’t meet them, but I would really like to get below 140lb by retirement. Just feels symbolic somehow. Which means I need to lose around 6lb in just under 6 weeks. In theory it’s do-able, but I think self-sabotage is my super-power 🙀. Wish me luck . . . . . .

Have a great week everyone xx

Hope Nokie and DCT have had a good day today with our renewed enthusiasm and reboot! I am very pleased with my mindset and my effort today. I don’t want a swipe of Yowser’s wet lettuce or to have to walk the plank during this cruise! I want to be posting some positive news next time I write which will be Friday. Totally low carb today- ketostix on order and hopefully in ketosis by Friday. I keep telling myself this is day 1 of the 8 weeks! It’s helping me . 8 weeks is all it will take to make a difference . I could be One stone lighter in 8 weeks. When I did it first time I lost 17.5 lb in the first 8 weeks! That would be amazing! Keep strong everyone- let’s avoid a wet lettuce 🥬 and nobody will be walking the plank on this ship!

    Hello everyone
I’ve got good news to share- i am 3lb down since Monday! I was in ketosis on Tuesday evening! I didn’t think it would happen until today! My goal for February was 158lb and today i am 159lb. I was actually 158.8 yesterday. I am really pleased with how this week has gone. My goal for March is to lose 4lb to take me to 155 lb. I am continuing with the very low carb theme. My blood sugars have all been really good this week. I always keep a check on them since being diagnosed and thankfully reversing pre diabetes last year.
I hope DCT and. Nokie will have some good news to share after their reboot this week. I am making meals from the various MM recipe books I’ve bought over the years, BSD, Keto, Fast 800.
We have booked a cruise for August so I know that if I keep going all last year’s outfits will be fitting well by then. My niece’s wedding is in June and I’ve got a nice dress which will look lovely if i lose about 10lb which is doable by end of June.
I hope my positivity will continue and i hope that my hard work rewards me with 1lb per week. Monday begins week2 of my BSD 8 week reboot. The way of eating is quite simple really, eliminate all the bad carbs!
I hope everyone else is feeling positive and I look forward to reading your news and updates.
Thank you for sticking with me through thick and thin. I look back at the last few years and realise how difficult times have been. However, I am proud to be still in the fight with your continued support. Many times I’ve wanted to throw in the towel.
I am so happy to be on this cruise with you all. I can see a lovely summer ahead and I can imagine myself on the top deck wearing my swimsuit!

I’ve done ok this week. Mostly good food choices – but not all. I’ve seen a slight loss. But what I’m really pleased about is that I’m getting into regular exercise patterns again. Not just for weight loss but it also makes me feel much more positive. So I’m hoping to see more progress next week.
Have a lovely weekend everyone X

Great news Cathy! I’ve found your positivity this week really inspiring, especially your re-boot, so good you can see the results already 🙂
I’ve had a very active week, with walking and some quite heavy gardening. The weather has also been hot, it was 37 yesterday and going to be 32 today. Ive definitely been eating less, have had at least 2 x 800 calorie days. This has resulted in a 1.6kg (3.5lb) loss this week! I’d imagine that some of that is fluid loss from working outside in the heat yesterday, but hey a loss is a loss and I’m using it to inspire me to keep going!
    Have a good weekend!

    Hello everyone
Mariet well done on your consistent week on week loss. It’s so discouraging when we work hard and don’t see any change in the scales. It’s so discouraging am aware that sometimes it’s inches that we lose and the scales definitely don’t reflect the whole picture but to see a kiss each week is very rewarding.
Dawn- I am glad you’ve been inspired to have a really good week. My mindset when going back to basics last week was that I’m going to do the Blood sugar diet 8 weeks. Each day is a day done and a day achieved.
Yowser – your spring poem is very inspiring. I feel the glow of hope as we come out of the dark, cold winter.
I have decided in order to keep me on track that I won’t weigh myself until Friday. I can easily become disappointed with my scales. I am going to believe in the process and get weighed weekly.. My blood sugar levels are low, my Ketostix are purple and I’m doing everything I can. I walked 10,800 steps yesterday but I paid the price! My poor toes were screaming last night! 7000 is really all my toes can cope with.
Today I’ve had Greek yoghurt with seeds and raspberries. I am excited for the return of rhubarb in the coming weeks. Hot stewed rhubarb and cold yoghurt! Can’t wait! Delicious.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. .

Can I first apologise for not keeping up with the posts on here. I can only say it’s brilliant for all of you who are on ‘plan’ and winning ‘the battle’. For those of us struggling to reach goals .. the goal could be too ambitious? Be kind to yourself. Any progress, no matter how small, is a win!

Let March be the month when we all move forward to our ‘goal’, whatever that is. Let us also travel ‘calmly’ through the month, hopefully reaching our targets for the month.

I suppose we all have to remember that ‘weight’ is just a number and, unless health issues are also a problem, we should just aim for a ‘healthy’ life not ruled by a ‘number’ but how we ‘feel’.

Whatever the goal let’s hope we get nearer in March.

    Hi everyone,
Just a quick update as things have been very busy. I heard back about my MRI results and the good news is that they think the lump is benign. The surgeon is still prepared to remove it, but given that it is not urgent, I will be waiting several months.
Anyway, that gives me a bit more time to try to get my weight down as much as possible and to improve my strength. Had a bit of a workout on the weekend fixing an urgent water situation and it made me realize how much I need to do that!

    Hello
ArcticFox- reassuring to hear your lump is benign. What a relief for you and good that your surgeon is happy to operate. Good news all round. My surgeon has said that surgery to remove my abdominal Schwannomas would be too drastic as they’re situated on my femoral nerve so I’m having MRI scans every six months to monitor the rate of growth. I feel like a ticking time bomb! I’m coming to terms with things and keeping positive.
This week I have lost 1lb. I am now 158 lb. It’s been a week of hard work for a 1lb loss. I’ve been sticking to keto and have been walking up and down a very hilly park nearby. I feel better and I think the fat I’ve lost will likely be visceral fat around my organs. This has been week two of my eight week reboot! I will keep going and aim for another 1lb next week. I’m on track to lose 4lb a month. I’ve made some mug bread this week using flax seeds, ground almonds and egg and it’s been nice.
I hope everyone is having a good week and those of us in the UK have enjoyed a few days of lovely spring sunshine which certainly lifted my spirits.
My plan for this week is to keep on keeping on. My Ketostix are dark, my blood sugar is low and I’m 1lb nearer to my goal. I’m doing everything I can.
I will weigh again on Friday and hope to be 157 lb. Got my post cataract optician appt on Tuesday- hoping I’ll only need reading glasses 🤓-
    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week 3 of my reboot! Still going strong! Keeping to keto and can definitely see less puffiness in my face. No weighing in the week. Only on a Friday. Can’t face the scales derailing my enthusiasm. Am still aiming for one pound per week- realistic I hope!
I’ve been declutterring this weekend and got rid of 3 bin bags of clothes to the charity shop. Feeling lighter in the wardrobe department. Far too many clothes. Got rid of 4 pairs of work trousers- won’t be needing those now I’m retired! Loads of work blouses gone! When I buy anything on Vinted going forward I will get rid of something in my wardrobe! I’ve listed some items on Vinted. I’ve got far to many things!
Not much activity in this thread- hope you’re all ok and have been enjoying the lovely spring weekend.

Hi everyone. Lovely to read lots of good news on here!

CATHY well done on your progress on your reboot so far, and your positivity and determination is really inspiring. I hope your optician’s appointment goes well today too. NOKIE it”s great that you are losing as well, and gradually getting a bit better. YOWZER I loved the tip about magnesium on the feet before bed. I find if I massage my feet with a rich lotion like Aveeno that really helps me sleep, as does my lavender sleep spray from The Body Shop. All part of the bedtime routine!

And it’s great to hear that many of us are decluttering too. That’s such a great feeling. YOWZER I love the “tiny tidy” idea. I still have loads of stuff to declutter, and even looking at it all stacked up makes me feel miserable and overwhelmed. But, like you, I’m just trying to do a little bit at a time, even just half an hour. Which means that yes, it will take quite a while, but I can make steady progress without feeling stressed and grumpy! And it’s amazing how quickly you do start to see the difference.

CATHY I love the idea of “one in one out” regarding clothes. My dad had that philosophy years ago, and it really makes sense to me. Rather than have a wardrobe stuffed full of things you hardly ever wear, it’s much better to have a few things you really love. I’ve been gradually paring down my clothes over the last year or so and now have far fewer than I used to. And it’s an iterative process, I keep weeding them down even further. My only issue is that there are still a few things in there that I like but don’t fit very well. They’re not hopelessly too small, just a bit tight in parts (usually the belly) so I’m hanging on in the hope that I can finally shed the excess pounds. On which point, I’m making slow progress at the moment but still hoping to shed a bit more by the time I retire (3 weeks now!!!).

ARCTIC FOX I am so pleased to hear that your results are encouraging, and hope that you can get your surgery sooner than you think ,to get everything finally sorted.

Hello to everyone else I’ve not mentioned, and hope you’re all doing well too. It’s only Tuesday, so we still have most of the week to make a difference!

    Hello
Just want to share that i had my first rhubarb of the season today! Hot stewed rhubarb with Greek yoghurt and toasted seeds for breakfast Absolutely delicious!
Went out for lunch with a friend and was worried what i could choose from the menu. I couldn’t have the soup as it was white onion and potato so too carby. I chose feta salad and it was huge and delicious Didn’t eat the sourdough bread it came with. Couldn’t eat it all so the waitress kindly gave me a doggy bag and I’m going to finish it tonight with my home made egg muffins.
Couldn’t resist a lovely dress i saw in a charity shop £6.99. Will be great for my cruise. I will have to choose something to donate to the charity shop later. One in, one out!
Sadly my optician appt was cancelled yesterday as the optometrist had phoned in sick. I was really disappointed but thankful he chose not to infect all his patients. Rebooked for next Tuesday. Another week wearing pound shop reading glasses. 🤓

    Hello everyone
1.2 lb down this week- can’t lie- was hoping for more! I’m still on track for 4lb a month. Had to go to emergency eye clinic this morning as I’ve been having a painful eye since the cataract repair four weeks ago. Turns out I’ve got inflammation of the iris. Steroid drops for 6 weeks and can’t have post op eye check at opticians until after my review at the clinic in six weeks! Good old £1 shop eye glasses will have to do. It’s a good job I’m not working.
How have you all got on this week. Week four if my reboot starts on Monday .

Glad to hear you are still losing, even if it’s not as much as you were hoping CC.

I went on a short cruise last week and came home with a head cold and headache that really knocked me over for a week.
I weighed myself on Friday and it’s over 2 weeks rather than one. Half a kilo down which is not fabulous but considering there was a cruise in there, I’ll take it. I notice that there is steady centimetre loss from my belly and midriff which is a great feeling. Today I was able to wear a shift dress made of t shirt fabric which I never could have worn not long ago because of the bulges that would have been visible. So it’s a long game but I feel like I am (slowly) getting there. Hope others are seeing results as well.

Well done Mariet- losing whilst cruising! What a win!
Tonight I’ve made creamy quorn and mushroom from the recipe section of the website. Had it with green beans and it was delicious.
My eye is feeling a little more comfortable with the steroid drops x 6 a day. I can’t believe after putting drops in my eyes since my first cataract operation in October followed by the retina surgery and then my second cataract operation that I am STILL putting eye drops in! I thought my eye drops were done with last week! The new drops are definitely making a difference so I am very thankful.
I am feeling positive as I head toward week 4- the keto way of eating seems to suit me but the weight loss is painfully S. L O W! Still, if I can continue to lose 1lb a week it will all add up. I just hope I can stay motivated. I’ve been trying to lose weight for so long! It gets harder and harder so this has to be the last time. This thread is really helping me because it’s giving me plenty of time to achieve. Like you said Mariet it’s a long game and I think having a year to make a difference is just what I needed.
Hope everyone else is seeing some progress.

MARIET I was thinking of you and SUEBLUE and your lovely sunny country! its very cold in my part of the UK but we have had some sunshine and it makes everyone feel better when its not grey and overcast. Well done on the shift dress, there is nothing nicer than slipping into a dress and feeling slinky coz there are no bulges showing!

Hi everyone, I’ve been meaning to post since Friday, went to sign in and totally forgot my password (never usually happens but I just had a total mental blank) and didn’t have it to hand so intended posting later that day and didn’t! Anyway, I did weigh myself on Friday and was 2lbs down which was ok but I know could have been better. Reading everyone’s posts is very inspiring at the minute so I’m hoping they chivvy me along a bit. Will weigh again this Friday. Hope you are all having a good week, lovely and sunny here today but very cold. Dawn XX

My maintenance diet isnt going that well,I’m veering between undereating and overeating,it balances out,but its not the healthiest way to maintain. I know my TDDE so it shd be easy!
Please give yourself a pat on the back for your good results, and keep going! X👍

CC glad t hear your eye is improving. And that your keto reset is working! I know all about slow losing! This week I have surpassed by regular 300g loss… with a 400g loss. I’m truly glad to be consistently losing but no one could accuse me of melting away. I calculate that at this rate I might be at my target in 18 weeks.
Let us know all about your maintenance Yowser 🙂 If I ever get there I will need all the pointers I can get to avoid the slow backsliding that happened after 2017.
Dawn, congratulations on a 2lb loss! We all know how much effort and commitment it takes.
Hoping you all have a lovely weekend. We are into Autumn so hoping for some more comfortable weather, I especially am hanging out for cooler nights so I can sleep. It’s raining here today, my least favourite weather, but my garden is grateful!

    Hi everyone,
Thanks Mariet, I’ve weighed myself this morning and haven’t lost any but didn’t do a food plan so wasn’t as organised as I could have been. I’m going to do a plan today for the coming week so that will definitely help me. Well done on your consistent losses, I would love to be at target in 18 weeks:) My first goal is to get below 12 st which I’m hoping will happen within the next 2 weeks🤞
    Have a lovely weekend everyone

    Hello
Well done on another consistent loss Mariet. We are here for the long term and like you I’ve worked out it will take me to August to get to where I want to be. This long term thread has given us the opportunity to take our time and chip away slowly .
Dawn well done for maintaining. I think making small goals really helps. We have to make this doable in slow phases.
I have lost another 1lb this week and so am on track to lose 4lb in March which was my goal. Keto seems to be working for me. I have done a planner to August when I go on holiday and I hope that I’ll be near to my goal by then. I’ve broken it down and aim to lose 4lb in March, 3lb in April, 4lb in May, 4lb in June, 2lb in July and 2lb in August. That will take me to 140lbs. I started at 163. Today I am 156. It’s painfully slow but I can already feel a difference in my clothes. Staying in Ketosis helps my appetite stay controlled. I’ve ordered a lovely little retro style shift dress from Vinted in a size 12 and I hope that when it’s holiday time I’ll look good in it. My eye has been sore again this last couple of days so I’m not sure the steroid drops are doing their work yet.
My plan for this coming week is to stick to keto but with no breakfast this week! I’ll be fasting til lunchtime mixing it up keeps me focused and motivated.
Have a great weekend everyone and keep working on your goals. We are going to do this once and for all!! Our next thread will hopefully be a maintenance one! It’s only March! We have all of 2025 to make a significant improvement in how we feel and look.
