Hello and well done to Dawn, Sue and MixnMatxh. You’re all off to a fab start. I forgot to weigh myself this morning and only realised when i was eating my breakfast. Because I’ve been taking it slowly my main aim has been to reduce carbs, do some time restricted eating and get myself on the right path. Im planning another fast on Monday and hope that the weather picks up so I can get some steps in next week.

    Hi everyone,
Sounds like everybody is off to a great start and nice to hear everyone being so optimistic. I’m not weighing, of course, but I have had a bit of a NSV this week. I suddenly realized that I have a feeling of wellness creeping in around the edges. I have less joint pain, a bit more energy, better focus at work and I’m sleeping better. It’s not a huge difference so far, but enough to be noticeable. If I’ve lost any inches (or mm), it’s only on my hands and feet. Definitely not above the ankles or wrists yet.
I’ve been going for at least a 15-20min walk most afternoons. When I’m working at home, I go up the road that goes up the hill. Gets my heart rate going and good views across the valley along the way. Quite windy as well, but that helps clear the head. I’m hoping it will start to help with the insulin resistance as well.
I’ve been impressing myself with how well I’m eating, and preparing lunches. I’ve been alternating chopped kale with roasted red peppers, artichokes, and cottage cheese or konjac noodles with bok choy, or hummus on broccoli sandwich bread, with a clementine and small handful of nuts on the side. For dinner, it’s been broccoli with fish or soy free tofu or lentils, or a black bean chili. Breakfast when I have it is skyr with hemp hearts and pomegranate. So it feels quite well rounded. I’m not hungry except right before meals and I am not craving unhealthy things. So nice!

Popping by to wish everybody a good week on the Good Ship Lollipop ( with no lollipops!)
and to mention an item I find really good for brekkies..high protein yoghurt.
    I get mine from – rhymes with sparks – comes in 200 g tubs,is very filling,much thicker than I was expecting,100 g or 50 is enough.
Three lovely flavours, strawb, vanilla, and mango and passion fruit are really delicious in my humble opinion.
I sometimes have a scoop as a dessert after evening meal. If you like trifle, add a scoop of low cal jelly and a few berries, and its as good as any trifle ive ever eaten- except for my daughters super amazing trifle, which thankfully she only makes at christmas,as its irresistible!
These are the figures for the vanilla – the other flavours will be much the same X
    Typical Values per 100g:
    Energy 328kJ/77kcal
    Fat 0.6g
    of which saturates 0.3g
    Carbohydrate 5.5g
    of which sugars 3.9g
    Fibre <0.5g

Almost at the end of day 7 and still going strong, so will carry on at least until Tuesday, which will be day 9. My sister’s birthday on Wednesday so probably won’t make the 10th day this time. Weather has definitely warmed up a lot so went shopping today with no coat, I got cold hands, but no worse than that. My body comp scales recorded a healthy visceral fat percentage for the first time this morning so that is good news 😀

Yowzer – that yogurt sounds delicious! I’ll have to look for something similar here.
Arctic Fox – so glad to hear you are starting to feel wellness creeping in around the edges! What a perfect way to describe it 🙂
I know exactly how you feel – when I first started BSD 8 years ago, that was what impressed me the most – even before I had lost much weight I had a noticeable reduction in joint pain, and an increase in my energy levels. I was having regular blood tests at the time and they showed a reduction in inflammation levels – this is what initially inspired me to keep on keeping on 🙂
I too am starting to feel wellness creeping back since my new year reboot. It’s early days yet, but already starting most days with a walk is becoming a habit – husband and I walked for an hour this morning and it was just on 6,000 steps.
We had a beautiful walk on Saturday – we ended up at Shark Beach on Sydney Harbour (Nielsen Park), it has lovely harbour views. I was kicking myself for not having my swimming costume (we weren’t planning on going there), but I did manage a paddle! We were walking around markets earlier in the day so step count ended up being almost 16,000 for the day. And sitting in the park overlooking the harbour was a great mindfulness exercise!
I’m having a good day today so far. After returning from my walk I decided to clean out the fridge and discovered leftovers and vegetables that needed using up – so i now have veggie soup cooking in the slow cooker, and a dozen freshly cooked breakfast muffins – made with eggs, ricotta, leftover roast turkey, pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli and capsicum – waste not want not!
I’m trying to introduce a new habit each week, so as well as walking more, and planning and recording food intake, this week I’m adding 16:8. I had breakfast at 9am (was starving as was up at 5.30am) and planning to eat my evening meal at 5pm. I’m making Tacos for husband and daughters and am going to use lettuce leaves for my portion, instead of taco shells. That’s the plan anyway! Now to tackle the housework before I go back to work tomorrow.

MixnMatch- I can’t believe you’ve managed to fast for so long! Are you just having water? Take care when reintroducing food- i often get “intestinal doom” after fasting for 36 hours when i start eating again. I am doing my Monday fast today and am going the full 36 hours this week. I already feel mentally in a better place than this time last week so I know i am going to be able to complete the fast. I’ve got a nice selection of lemon and ginger tea, peppermint tea, rooibos and gingerbread chai. At mealtime I choose a different cup of tea as my meal!
Sue you sound really motivated and you’re getting plenty of steps in. I am hoping now the ice has melted that I will be walking more this week. I like your idea of adding a new habit each week. I find that mixing things up really helps to keep me motivated.
I am considering this as a proper week. Last week was slow and steady and “getting into the swing of things”. I had a couple of good days and a couple of not so good days but all part of the plan . This week I plan to be strong and strict!
    Have a good week everyone!
Well done to those on the cruise who have already seen some weight loss.

Hi Cathy, no I am being a touch cautious and having a variety of herb teas, ‘liquid lunch’ of bone broth, or marmite or on two days a miso instant soup as well as the water to make sure I keep my electrolytes up, and I am having a multivitamin and fish oil capsule a day (which reminds me, I haven’t had todays yet). The largest calorie days are the soup ones at 35 calories. I am hoping to avoid most of the issues doing this without affecting the main point of the fast. I have dropped caffeine which gave me my only symptom of a mild withdrawal headache. I am actually impressed with how well I am feeling and how well I am sleeping (probably connected) I will certainly be doing this again, and may pluck up courage to go just water/herb teas for the next one but not for at least another six months as the study I read said no more than twice a year. I will probably do that anyway for my 36 hour fasts when I start doing them after getting back to eating normally in a phased way as planned which will take several weeks. I need to be strong and strict with myself too and not risk jumping back into a normal diet too quickly.

Greetings! I wonder if anyone has combined this approach to dieting with a jab such as Wegovy or Mounjaro? I have a friend who paid privately for Mounjaro and has lost about 3 stones in 5 months. She experienced some digestive discomfort, which I think is common, but otherwise is following a higher protein, fewer carbs, no treats approach.

I can’t remember the exact figures, would have to look them up, but I am pretty sure that in 2017 I lost about the same without the jabs, I lost 8 stones in total over 2 years but most successfully at the end when I discovered the BSD, both 5:2 and the Fast 800 which actually took me down to my target. No digestive discomfort either, other than a few rumbles.

Hi all, so nice to read such cheery posts from so many!
I have been weighing and recording in MFP like I did seven years ago. I am sticking to 8-900 cal and less than 40g carbs, mostly less than 30. My regular weight day is Friday but I’m doing a cheeky weigh on Tuesdays as well. Sadly so far there’s little progress but we’ll see what Friday brings.
Today I went to a ‘gentle’ exercise class. I wouldn’t want it to be any faster! But although it felt like hard work at the time I felt great after it and I’m going to continue once or twice a week.
Hope everyone is having a good week. Good luck with the rest of your fast, Mixnmatch.
Sueblue, sounds like you are having some wonderful walks around the city.
CC I hope your week goes well and that this is a good ‘proper’ week for you.
    Good luck to everyone 😁

I’m off to a great start to the week having just completed a 38 hour fast. I went to bed early last night as I was feeling cold and grumpy. Had a terrible headache (carb flu) but slept well despite waking up a few times. Just eaten a couple of medjool dates and some peanut butter with a cup of rooibos and it tasted delicious. Was going to have a boiled egg but I can’t face it so I’ll have it at lunchtime. I have to be really careful what I eat after a 36 hour fast. I’ll leave it a couple of hours before going out just in case! This week I am going to stay low carb, time restricted eating and more walking. I am looking forward to making progress slowly but steadily. Today feels like a win. Last Monday I only could manage a 24 hour fast.
Have a good day everyone. Take it one day at a time.

I broke my fast this morning, so ended at 8 full days, with a proper cup of tea with milk, and have had a few hazelnuts, followed by a low ish carb Eggs Benedict with a thin slice of muffin with melted butter instead of the Hollandaise, 1 slice of ham and two eggs. No ill effects so far, I also had a herb tea to try to keep my hydration up. Tomorrow is my sister’s birthday and she has chosen a Chinese so I have been busily planning what I can reasonably eat from her choices of dishes. (Not an awful lot, considering her first two requested dishes are lemon chicken and sweet and sour battered prawns.) I think I can make an about 300 calorie dish by having beansprouts instead of the rice and minimising the sugary dishes, so that is the plan for tomorrow for my sole meal. After that as planned I will be easing back in to eating properly over the next couple of weeks and tracking my weight so I don’t gain too much back. Thursday and Friday aiming at 600 calories (2 meals) Saturday and Sunday 900 calories (3 meals) Monday and Tuesday next week 1200 calories (3 meals plus a few glasses of wine maybe) Wednesday and Thursday 1500 calories (almost back to my basal metabolic rate) Friday, Saturday and Sunday 1800 calories (my theoretical basal rate, if I gain weight at this I will lengthen the stay at it to a week as that may signal my BMR has reduced due to my body being more efficient). If I don’t gain at my BMR I will do a week at 2100 calories and expect to gain at that. After that I will take stock and maybe start an 8 weeks.
Keep on keeping on everyone, and well done Cathy for nailing your fast.
