    Hi,

I plan on starting tomorrow despite not having read the book yet (it is taking ages to come through the post).

Is there anyone else planning on starting tomorrow, with it being a fresh, new month and all? If so, could we use this thread for support and accountability?

I am in my late thirties, from the Uk and have two young children. I am 5 foot 8 and weigh 14 stone and 2 pounds. I want to weight 10stone. I plan on using this diet as a kick start and then reverting to the No S diet there after. I don’t eat meat but do eat fish. I am nervous about doing this and I think a support thread could make all the difference for me.

    Anyone want to join me?

    Hello new starters!
My husband & I will be starting the BS Diet on Monday because we are still eating some unsuitable leftovers & will be having family & a friend for lunch on Sunday. We have been used to fasting on 5:2 so hope we can cope well with 800 daily calories! I’m still trying to get my head around the recipes & some unfamiliar ingredients & today shopped for most of the ingredients listed as basics in the recipe book. I am aged 68 & my husband is 69 & a Type 2 diabetic so hoping he will also be able to reduce his medication. Weight wise he needs to lose 1-2 stone & I need to lose 3-4 stone🙁 so a long way for me to go to get to my ideal weight!
Good luck everyone on your first day👍👍🍀🍀

    Hey all,

I started today, can I tag along on this group? I’m 5’6, need to lose a total of 6 stone to be in the healthy BMI range as an 17st now and should be 11 max! Going to be a long journey, not going to do the 800 cal diet for more than 8 weeks in a row, but hoping it will give me a kick start and healthy eating habits to carry on with.

Planned a weeks worth of meals, got food in ready to go so am less tempted by other things. Will post tomorrow about first days but today has gone well!

Lots to lose 6stone, I tried a week of this and felt a lot better, so plan on 8 weeks of 800, then start a new job! Good luck 5 minutes left before 1/10/16, hope it goes well for us all.

    Hi,
On day 2 I wonder if I could tag along as well. I’m 50 from the UK and a mum to 2 boys aged 16 and 20 . Diagnosed as Type 2 last May I am 5 ft 1.5 in height and weigh 13 stone 1, my ideal weight would be 9 stone ( 1998 was the last time i weighed this little) I have steadily put the weight on over the years. So have a long journey ahead.Hoping to lose a good chunk of weight the first 8 weeks. To really help with long term motivation.

I’m just about in the middle of week four but just thought I’d drop in to say hello. There’s lots of inspiration to be had on the threads here and very friendly folk all very willing to share their knowledge and experience. So if you need help or motivation, shout and someone will come along.

To anyone worried about surviving on 800 calories, you will be amazed at how well you will do. I thought I’d really struggle, but after a day or so it starts to seem like ample.

    Good luck!

When I did a week BSD about a month ago I had a real surprise. After taking indigestion medication my whole life, I didn’t get heart burn the way I had. I always put this down to poor tolerance of fat in my diet, it seems it was due to bread, pasta and even my favourite potatoes! I have eaten more ” normal diet ” over the last few weeks and had heart burn again! So looking forward to losing the indigestion and weight!

Yay, loads of us on here. Welcome all.

FYI non Brits, a stone is 14Lbs in our antiquated system! So I have four of them to shed. They must go!

Glad to hear others have coped on the 800 calories without feeling too bad. I think my biggest fear is feeling hangry (hungry and angry!) whilst caring for my young kids. But I shall focus on how I can hopefully buy some decent winter clothes a size or two smaller after these 8 weeks. I am fed up of feeling dowdy in big elastic-waist things!

    I will check in tonight.

Best of luck today, wether it is your first day or not.

So pleased to have a little support community. The more the merrier. Xx

Just watched Michael Mosely’s BSD video on YouTube and feel v inspired!

Breakfast was scrambled eggs plus 2 slices of hot smoked salmon. Am surprised how little I missed the carbs after initially thinking “But where’s the toast!?”

Lunch will be Dahl with kale.

Dinner will be hummus and carrots.

I need to do a proper week’s meal plan as am winging it today. I need recipes suitable for adapting for the whole family. I shall do some planning this eve instead of Netflix and wine!

Go Team October/November. We shall do this!

I am going to suggest all who want to post at the end of the day with what they ate (good to share meal ideas) and how the day went. I think this will help keep me accountable. Then maybe post each week with pounds lost. Obviously this is just a suggestion and is just what I feel I need to do to stay on plan. Xx

Sorry about that sentence but you know what I mean

Hi, I started my own variation of the BS diet on Wednesday 28 Sept when I weighed 155lb. I am 5’8″ tall so don’t need to loose lots of weight, but I have read the book and felt inspired to have a go – it also means I will have lost weight by Christmas. In the last 3 days I have lost 5lb and feel confident that I will be able to continue. I haven’t suffered any headaches or felt particularly hungry. I have wanted to move away from bread, pasta and potatoes for sometime and in doing so just for three days, my energy levels have increased. I will follow this thread and hope to get more inspiration from you all as we continue our journey. KEEP DRINKING WATER

Please may I join in? I weighed myself this morning – shock horror. Took waist measurement – disgusted lol. Sorting out menus as today have to finish off a portion of black bean and lentil chilli that was lurking in freezer but making soups as I intend to have yoghurt and something for breakfasts/scrambled eggs/etc with a main meal at lunch and then a soup for dinner as I think that will suit me and unsuspecting other half! Got another friend doing it who may join this forum and another one hoping too. Good luck to everyone.

Great idea to post what we eat. I have just had full fat yoghurt with a banana & a sprinkle of dried cranberries, I know not strictly allowed but still eating up leftovers in preparation for starting on Monday. Soup for lunch with a small slice of wholemeal bread & an apple then the spicy chickpea chilli & broccoli for supper. I think the BSDiet recipe book is going to become my go to ideas book. Good luck everyone for your first week.

Hi all and greetings from Dublin, Ireland. I’m off on the programme today also, hoping to shift two stone by Christmas.
Habits that have to change are the regular wine in the evening time, late night ice cream and a shift off the chair, currently spending eight hours a day at work in an office and home to the couch.

I’m at that dreadful mid to late fifties age and starting to be really concerned about health and fed up talking about losing weight and not doing it.

First time join a forum so I’m really delighted with the support, yes a post each evening on foods and tips and weekly feedback on weight loss sounds like a wonderful idea.

    Best of luck to all!!!

Guys, if you’re keen to keep a log of your food intakes, someone on here recommended Fat Secret on the web to me and a number of other people. They have a UK (fatsecret.co.uk) and a US website (fatsecret.com), so you can choose which is most appropriate to your location. Lots of people also use My Fitness Pal (you’ll see it abbreviated to MFP on this forum). Dead easy to use as a means to keep a detailed record of what you’re eating and the exercise you’re doing.

Fat Secret is a pretty awful name, but the site itself is self-explanatory. I’ve never tried MFP, but I imagine it’s similar.

    Hi all,

I’m starting the BSD diet today too. I’m 5’7″ and embarassingly have seen my weight creep to over 14 stone. I am a 48 year old woman who has been caring for my parents for the past 10 years. My parents both developed Type 2 diabetes in their 60’s but changed their diet which helped a lot. My dad passed away at 87 from non-diabetes related conidtions and now happily my mum has been off medication for the past 4 years. I haven’t been diagnosed as pre-diabetic but think doing this diet will be good for my health and wellbeing in general.

P.S. I’m using the MyFitness App too and spent the morning scanning my groceries. I have tried some of the recipes in the Essential BSD Recipe book for the past 3 days to ease myself into this and it hasn’t been that difficult so far.

    Good luck everyone!

    Hello!!

I’m starting today with the aim of kick starting an initial 3 stone weight loss. I’m 5″3 and 13 stone, I haven’t been to the Dr’s but my dad has been diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic and I know my weight isn’t doing my mental or physical health any good at all.. I’m currently sat in the kitchen writing a meal plan for the next two weeks, I have a couple of work events which I’m going to have to work around. I’m really lucky that a colleague has already started and is doing well so I have support at work, I just have to keep up the momentum at home and get into some HIIT. I’ll be using MFP, so perhaps those using it to might share their usernames for support on their too?

    Good luck to everyone!

Wow! Welcome new starters of October 1st! Must be something in the fall air (or spring if you are down under!). It is wonderful to see so many new people and so good you’ve all found a new thread. I’m an early-adopter from way back in the depths of dark February, came across BSD book in the London Heathrow airport on holiday, was embarrassed to buy it because I figured everyone was thinking, “well she sure needs this book”, but bought it anyway and brought it home to California and just started following the guidelines — I’m sixty and I was adding weight every month and just hating how heavy I had become and couldn’t find a way out despite being a very athletic person. I probably fell off more times than I can count and it was slow at first but I did eight weeks, then sixteen weeks, then twenty four weeks and.. It changed my life. I am at goal and I lost ten inches from my waist. I still refuse io weigh myself because I decided I never want to step on a scale again but my tape measure is my trusty friend and I even take it on holiday. I seriously recommend a book by Gary Taubes “Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It” as a primer on low-carb — I followed the Duke University guidelines of 20 carbs per day but you will find your own sweet spot. Also, weigh everything, make fat your friend, fill up on low-carb vegies and sparkling water and most important of all, DON’T QUIT. It does not matter if you have a bad day, the most important thing is to start again the very next day. Just pick up and move on, no recriminations or self-hating or despair. It is the day-to-day sticking with it that will do the trick. Good luck! Looking forward to your success stories and don’t ever give up!! This works. You are going to amaze yourself.

    Hello Greentea
I have just scanned up the posts, I am very similar to you, also 48 and 5ft 7 and my weight is over 14 stone. yikes when guys weight less than you. MFP is a life saver. Good luck.

btw – As someone who was on Slimming world all this year, I have just read that in the toffee fat free muller light yogert (Free on slimming world) it has 12.4g of sugar + the artificial stuff. yikes.!

So far feeling good food wise, day 3. I have a nasty migraine but I suffer with those monthly anyway so I think it is hormone not diet.
Breakfast : Strawberries,Blueberries and Greek Yogurt.
Lunch : Half avocado, Lettuce, Cucumber,1 slice ham
    Dinner:Mushroom stir fry

Drinking plenty of Water. I think this is stopping me feel hungry.

Ok so todays meal were (all from BDS 800 recipe book:
Breakfast – Poached egg and avocado
    Lunch – Ploughmans Lunch
Dinner – Veg curry and cauliflower rice.

I loved all of these meals.

Yesterday’s meals (my first day) were :
Breakfast – Portabello toast with goats cheese
Lunch – Sardine dip with crudités
Dinner – Baked fish with green beans

Not keen on the sardine dip (I have a problem with the taste of oily fish!) or baked fish, but I can work on that recipe and customise it to my taste.

Too scared to weigh in as yet, think I will be weighing once a week on a Friday only.

Drank heaps of water (about 2.5 litres so far) and will keep on doing so.

Have had headaches today, but from what I’ve seen on the other threads these are not uncommon and pass within a few days, so I have taken some painkillers which solved that problem!

Not feeling hungry I am so happy with that, as was worried due to lots of scare stories around VLCD.

Hope you are all keeping positive!

Not as good as it could have been as had to finish up some leftovers and other half poured me a drink!! However, today went like this

Breakfast was half a Greek yoghurt with fruits of the forest – leftover from earlier in week so had some sugar in them as they were vicious

Lunch was left over black black bean and red lentil chilli with a sprinkling of parmesan

Dinner was homemade minestrone soup – onions, tomatoes, carrot, leek, cabbage and tiny shredded bacon bits, tiny bit of pasta shapes – made enough for 4 meals – around 200 calories.

    Lots of water.

    Tomorrow will be much better.
