Hi everyone! How can it be September already?! Which means that if you have weight loss or other health goals you want to achieve in 2024, now is the time to move up a gear and get things moving. So why not try the 100 day challenge? 100 days to reach your goals well before Christmas!

This thread will run up till Christmas Eve 2024 (gulp!) which at the time of writing is around 113 days. If you want to do a full 100 days by then just get started any time up till mid-September and you will have time to do it.

This thread is a continuation of the ongoing “bus journeys” threads that have been running for the last couple of years or so, the latest one being Jump on Board in July. But anyone is welcome to join : the more the merrier. Just post with your goals, keep us all in touch with your progress, and shout for help if you’re struggling. And hopefully by Christmas we will all have helped each other to get to where we want to be, and will have had a lot of fun on the journey.

    All aboard!!

    Hi everyone,
I’m back on the forum after a while off and have just been catching up with posts tonight.I’m so sorry to hear of the
worrying times a few of you have been/are still going through and hope things get better. Yowzer congratulations on your amazing weight loss and well done anyone else who has managed to lose or maintain. I weighed myself yesterday and think I was the same weight at the beginning of August but am not surprised as I haven’t really been sticking to healthy eating consistently so have probably been losing and regaining the same few pounds. I think it has done me good mentally to have a break from thinking too much about what I’m eating but it certainly hasn’t helped me physically! We are away for our usual annual trip to Lincolnshire from this Thursday to Sunday and I would love to join the Hundred Day Challenge bus trip on Tuesday 10th if there is a spare seat please! I think I would like to lose around 37lb but my priority is to reduce inches around my middle as it seems to have expanded alarmingly with me not taking care with my carb and sugar intake, I honestly don’t think it’s ever been this huge (apart from when I was pregnant🤣) I’m looking forward to being mindful of my eating again and hopefully it will bring results. Good luck to anyone who is already on the bus and I look forward to boarding next week. Dawn X

DAWN welcome back, and I hope you have a lovely trip to Lincolnshire. Jump on board next week and I hope we can help you to make progress with your weight and inch loss goals.

NOKIE great to see you too, and good luck with your start. I hope that you had a good time in Switzerland. How is your dad?

YOWZER I’m so glad you’re travelling with us as you are such an inspiration. I hope that your weight loss is continuing and also that you are getting some help and relief with your sciatica?

I’m getting going today, and plan to keep on until Friday 13th December. I was away at the weekend at a lovely hotel and gained another pound, so I now have 11lb to lose. My aim is to try and shed on average one pound per week, which I know I’ve tried before – with varying degrees of success. I’m also doing a couple of online walking challenges at the moment. One is a long term one which ends in November and I am way behind. The other a million step challenge over 100 days which I’m also starting today. So I really need to push myself hard physically if I’m to manage to finish both of those, and hopefully that will help lose the pounds as well. I already feel tired just thinking about it 😂 BUT am determined to do my best to achieve my various targets this time round.

Good luck everyone! The bus 🚌 is on the move X

Hi everyone, I kind of fell by the wayside last challenge. I stayed on the wagon but I was really busy with renovations to my house while I was on leave and the two months was nearly over before I realised. I neither gained nor lost during that time which was a little disappointing but on the other hand, I am 8.5kg (more than 18lb) down from New Year’s Eve so all in all, not too bad. 5 inches gone from waist and midriff and 4inches from belly. There is no sign of the fatty liver disease which showed up last year and HbAIc remains well below prediabetic levels. So if I never get to my goal, I’m still ok with this.

Still, it would be good to reach my goal and it’s only 3kg away so hopefully I can manage it by the end of this challenge! That would put me in the middle of the overweight range but that is what my doctor recommends, and I remember last time when I did get into the healthy weight range I looked dreadful, so gaunt, and didn’t feel particularly well.

Looking forward to cheering everyone on over the next 100 days 🙂

    Hello everyone, I’m jumping aboard!
Nice to see some familiar names for this latest journey 🙂
Well done Mariet for losing 8.5kg so far this year,
And a huge congratulations to Yowzer too – you’ve done so well 🙂
I need to lose about 10kg to get down to where I was at my lowest 2 years ago, and then still need to lose more after that, but focusing on the 10kg for now.
It potentially could be doable on 100 days, if I lost 100g (4 ounces?) a day, but knowing how slowly I lose weight, I doubt it!
So for now I’m going to focus on the first 5 of those 10 excess kilos.
I’m going to clear out my fridge and sort out the pantry today, so I can plan some healthy meals.
My ankle is getting better slowly, the physio is definitely helping. My husband has suggested we start going for a walk together in the evenings,‘we’re starting on Monday. We used to do this many years ago and both lost weight. We only used to walk about 4km, but would do it in about 45 minutes and would go whether it was rain, hail or shine! Nothing stopped our evening ritual, we were even out in a bad electrical storm once!
Anyway, I’m looking forward to what I can achieve in a 100 days – let’s do this!

    Hello everyone,
Please count me in on this challenge. Thanks for setting up the thread, DCT.
I’ve got my Obesity Code Cookbook at the ready, and my fridge is full of veggies. The garden is producing lots of squash, beans, tomatoes and zucchinni right now too. I’ve got just a little bit of kefir and cheese to finish up over the next 2 days, and then I will be on just fruits, veggies and seeds for the next 2 weeks. I will need to stay strong as I don’t think it will be easy. Then I can start adding the common allergens back in one at a time to see what if any are causing symptoms. I think the 100 days is perfect as it will be enough time to allow me to get through the elimination diet and then to figure out what I’m going to be able to eat going forward.
    Good luck everyone!

No change in anything I’ve done, except that the weather is a little cooler so maybe not retaining fluid which I do in hot weather. But I’m really pleased about it and also that after nearly a year of trying, people have started to ask me if I’ve lost weight so it must be beginning to show.

Mariet I agree with sunshine-girl you have worked so hard and deserve the results you are now seeing. I’m really pleased for you 👏

Hello to Yowzer, Nokie, Sue, Cathy (once you’re back from your cruise!) and anyone else reading this. Hope that you are all is doing ok too?

I’ve lost 1lb so far but need to up my game as I’m still allowing too many wrong food choices to creep in. But the exercise is going well so I’m happy overall. I know I need to stay focused on the WoE and I will see the results I want to. And I know I do best when following recipes from one of the books, I just need to get better organised with advance meal planning and shopping.

    Have a wonderful weekend xx

I’ve had a good week- 1kg down from a week ago, most likely water weight in part as I’ve just restarted, but hey, a loss is a loss!
All this talk of weather made me look it up and interestingly your temps in the UK right now are very similar to here (Sydney, Australia) except of course we are in spring and you are at the tail end of summer/early autumn.
I’ve been walking more this week and also had my last physio appt (for ankle) and he said it’s about 85% of normal capacity so getting there 🙂

    Hello
I am back from my wonderful Mediterranean cruise and will be boarding the bus tomorrow for the 100 day challenge. The holiday was amazing and I dread to think what I weigh! I didn’t hold back on anything! I didn’t over eat but I definitely didn’t stick to this WOE!! was never going to hence why I had my HbA1c checked before going and the nurse agreed! I saw some very large people whilst I was away and nobody seemed to be bothered about being overweight. They were wearing bikinis and had absolutely no body confidence issues whatsoever. it was quite liberating to see people embrace who they are. I don’t think size matters as much these days but of course health does and that is why I will be back to eating a healthy diet from tomorrow. Two weeks off is not a problem. I might get on the scales tomorrow to see the damage but part of me doesn’t really want to face it! Anyway, I’m back home today and looking forward to eating healthy food and joining you all on the challenge. I am away again at the weekend As it is our Ruby wedding anniversary so will do my best and then from next Monday I’m fully committed to doing my best. I’ll catch up on your posts in the next day or so. It’s good to be back. I’ll start my 100 days from tomorrow.

Well I braved the scales this morning and I have put on 6.6 lbs. Much less than I anticipated! You won’t believe this but my step count every day was high! The Sky Princess is a big boat and one day I clocked up 21,000 steps!!!! It was a shore day in Gibraltar. I think the steps I did daily may have offset what I ate. I am hoping to achieve a weight of 145 during this 100 day challenge. I know how difficult it is for me to lose weight so this is a realistic weight and my aim is to keep out of the pre diabetes range at all times. Today is a day of healthy eating and I will keep up the steps. My plantar fasciitis is definitely healing so can’t make any excuses not to keep the steps up. Off to fill the fridge and cupboards with healthy food this morning and then a huge pile of laundry to tackle! Have a good day everyone and thank you for this thread of inspiration.

Welcome to this lovely thread Heidi where you can receive advice, support, inspiration and absolutely no judgement. Dreamscometrue has kindly sent up another wonderful thread for us. Most of us have had our fair share of difficult times and with many challenging times along the way but we keep going and we keep supporting each other and trying our best. We have some good weeks and some not so good weeks. Yowser keeps us going with her wonderful inspiring quotes and entertained with her jokes and everyone here feels comfortable to share theirs ups and downs. I hope that like me you will be inspired to keep digging deep and doing your best. I am going to try and undo the extra weight I have gained whilst on holiday and the 100 day challenge gives us all plenty of time to achieve our realistic goals. One thing I have learnt is to be realistic. I can’t lose weight like I want to. It happens very very slowly but it does come off if I eat a healthy diet and slowly and steadily I am to going to make the next 100 days count.
    Good luck everyone!

Heidi welcome on board! I hope we can help you see some positive results and also support you as you navigate your way through the other challenges you are facing.

And Cathy welcome back! I’m glad you had such a fab time away and am sure you will soon start to reverse the weight gain. Its interesting what you say about body confidence. I think we can all learn from that : even though all of us on here want to lose weight and are mindful of what we eat, it’s easy to fall into the trap of not expecting to feel good about ourselves until we’ve achieved our goal. But life’s too short not to enjoy the journey too. So I hope we can all celebrate who we are, whatever stage we are at, and enjoy life one day at a time even if we’re not quite there yet in terms of weight and measurements.

Yowzer I am so impressed with your weight loss! Another 5lb in September is amazing! Ang I hope the various treatments continue to help your sciatica.

Have a good week everyone, and keep posting x

I’ll hop on board as well (if a bit late to make the Christmas Eve deadline). Things went totally crazy after I last posted here, OH cancer came back, he immediately decided to retire and we bought a house down in Cornwall in need of a lot of renovation and proceeded to downsize the contents of a 5 bed house into our new 3 bed cottage. I got a new job as well, although later gave that up to spend more time with him, but the weight gains that had already started before lockdown and ballooned then accelerated more with eating out/takeaways/comfort eating in the bad times and the carb monster got the upper hand again. I am currently in the process of putting it back in the box using all the old tools, Fast 800, Full fasts, and 5:2. (Or rather 2:5)

On a full fast (with elements of fast mimicking) for 5 days then starting 2:5, until the festivities start (and in between them) then after Christmas I intend to do a 7 day water only fast and then 8 weeks of Fast 800 keto.

At least this time round I know what works for me!

Hello Mixnmatch, I remember you 🙂
Sorry to hear that your husband’s cancer returned, but it’s good he was able to retire. It’s good that you have the next few months planned diet-wise.

Dawn – well done, it sounds like you are off to a great start!

Cathy – welcome back! So glad you got to enjoy your cruise 🙂

And a big warm, welcome to Heidi 🙂

I’ve had an up and down week, not sure what I’ve lost yet as I check my weight on Fridays. I’ve definitely been more active, my husband and I went for walk on 3 evenings and I’ve had a couple of daytime walks too, so averaging between 8-10,000 steps per day. Diet hasn’t been perfect but I have cut back on carbs and eating more protein, so that’s a start.

I’ve been getting heart palpitations and feeling very fatigued at times, also slightly short of breath so went to see the doctor today. He’s arranging blood tests to check iron, thyroid, blood sugar etc. I’m hoping it’s just that I’m run down. I miss how well I was feeling when I was following this WOE a few years ago – need to get my mojo back!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Hi everyone, good to see people off to a good start.
I am really struggling on my elimination diet. I am in worse pain than ever since starting it. My tomato plants have been going gangbusters lately so I have been eating a lot as I have them as snacks when I get hungry, which has been often since starting the elimination phase. I wonder if it is the tomatoes. I am very suspicious now that I might be experiencing gout. It runs in my family, and Dr. Bikman says that it is tied to insulin resistance, and tomatoes and other nightshade vegetables may exacerbate it. So back to the drawing board for me. I am just so confused about what I can and can’t eat. I really went off piste today as a result of feeling so hungry and rather sorry for myself. But back on it tomorrow sans tomatoes. I just have to figure this out, as I’m really not enjoying feeling this way and it is impacting my sleep, energy and will to get things done.
I have also been exceptionally busy building a new shed. I had a builder in to do most of it, but my dad and I have been putting the siding on ourselves, which has been a bit rough when I’m already in pain. Luckily a builder friend of my dad’s came over to help us for a few hours today. Still a bit more to go though. I have to travel for work next week too, so might not be popping in here for a bit.
    Keep on keeping on everyone!

Welcome Mixnmatch, I remember you too. Cornwall is beautiful and I hope that you and your husband will be well and happy there, and that you can now focus and move forward with your weight loss goals. As you say, you know what works for you so I’m sure you’ll soon start to see the results you are hoping for. Just be kind to yourself along the way : you’ve had a lot going on and lots to do, but make sure you take care of yourself too.

Dawn and Sue I’m so pleased you are both seeing losses. Well done! That’s really motivating and am sure it will continue. Dawn you definitely need a new sparkly chart! And Sue I hope your blood tests are all ok and that you get on top of all the storage symptoms. It could all just be stress, with all you’ve had going on recently. I hope you feel better soon and, as you say get your mojo back.

Arcticfox I’m so sorry you are in pain. It must be very confusing about what you can and can’t eat but, like Yowzer said, it seems to make sense that the tomatoes are not helping. I really hope you get sorted soon and can have a reliable meal plan with food that you know won’t hurt you. Good luck with the shed too! And I hope your work trip goes well next week.

Yowzer thank you as always for your inspiring words. How are you? It sounds like you are still battling with the sciatica and I really hope it improves soon, then as you say you can revisit those other symptoms too. Sending love and healing vibes your way. You are amazing to be achieving such tremendous weight loss whilst struggling with all these other things too. Well done!

Planning out my hundred days, the hundredth day is Christmas Eve. I think I will be introducing 3 ‘jokers’ I can play pre-Christmas to cover social occasions. These will be still low carb but alcohol allowed, and not counting calories. Each joker day used then gets observed as it should have been originally between Christmas and New Year.

5 day Fast (fasting mimicking diet at around 300 calories a day) is now completed, first low carb ‘weekend’ at 1600 calories permitted including alcohol and also the first two ‘Week’ days at 800 no alcohol. Nearly a stone off at the moment, and hoping for a sustainable drop in weight over the rest of my 8 weeks to give me 2 stone about off by Christmas. Getting back into the swing of it now.

Good to hear everyone else’s progress too. Keep on keeping on folks!

    Hello everyone
I’m back from my anniversary weekend and ready to knuckle down after a very hectic and off plan September. So glad I worked hard to get my weight down before the cruise. Anyway, I am 4lb up and weigh 154 lb this morning so not too bad considering how much off plan I’ve been since 1st September. Back to reality now. I think I’ve used all my ‘jokers’ up in one go! I need to detox from the carbs this week and then hopefully I can steadily start to lose some weight before Christmas. I am not stressing myself with unrealistic goals. I will aim to keep low carb and nutritious with unprocessed foods. I know how my body works and it doesn’t do what I want it to do. I am really quite excited to draw a line under “dieting” once and for all after Christmas and to concentrate on maintaining. This has been an arduous slog for quite a number of years and I like the plan for maintenance in the New Year. I am prepared to put in the work in the remaining 90 days to Christmas Eve and to see what I can achieve. 142-145 would make a lovely Christmas present!
Nice to see you in the thread Mixnmatch. You sound extremely focused and well done on your weight loss. Well done to everyone who is losing. Because I’ve been away most of September I’ve not been reading the thread as I usually do but I promise I’ll be reading every day now and keeping up with the ups and hopefully downs. I’m hoping to get another steroid injection in my toes to keep me walking. Speaking to the orthopaedic surgeon today. Am trying to delay toe fusion surgery until after my eye procedures. I hope he will agree to topping me up.
Hoping to get rid of the 4lb holiday excess in the next few weeks and making progress into the 140’s. I did achieve 148 just prior to my cruise so with some work I can hopefully get there again. Have a good week everyone.

Hi I wanted to say thank you all for the warm welcome. I have taken a long time to get started, but the 25 in yesterday’s date was a good prompt to get on with things. 3 months to Christmas! The other major motivator is the amount of pain in my knees. I am determined to stop the arthritis in its tracks through weight loss and more exercise. So I have visited the podiatrist today, have physio on Monday and tomorrow we adopt a labrador who is retiring from guide dog duties! A four-footed personal trainer.

I’m hoping that this will get me and keep me on track and keep me away from stress and comfort eating, Mixnmatch I am so impressed with your disciplined approach, particularly when you have moved house and are dealing with your husband’s health issues. I shall try to follow your example. It is so easy for me to con myself that I am being kind to myself when I console myself with something sugary. When in fact it is more an act of self-harm.

So thank you again for the welcome, and I hope to report some progress soon.

    Good luck Heidi!
Just wanted to share my experience with this WOE and arthritis. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and when I first started BSD in 2017 I was on a lot of medication for pain and inflammation. I experienced significantly less pain and inflammation within 3 WEEKS of following the diet – so much so that I was able to reduce medication. This was before any significant weight loss, I may have lost something like 3kg at that stage. It showed in my regular blood tests that my inflammation markers were down. When I was talking to the specialist about it she said she’d had other patients who noticed improvement in pain once they reduced their sugar intake.

I remember after being on the diet for a few months it was Easter and we went away for a few days break. To ‘treat’ myself I had pizza, donuts, beer and chocolate (not all at once lol!). And boy didn’t I pay for it! On the Monday my knees were swollen and I was in SO much pain I had to hobble around! That proved it for me!

    Anyway, all the best!

Heidi, good to hear from you. I am far from organised and disciplined about eating normally, which is why lockdown had such a dire effect on my weight, which was only compounded by the chaos of the move etc.

I found the last time I dropped the weight just how effective this WOE is, and I always have to log everything on an app, including any little extras/snacks. It took me two years to lose the weight last time, although only the last six months or so was this BSD way, the rest was a series of false starts, and two steps forward one step back.

The plan now is to try to get back down to a reasonable weight for my height by next Easter in what will be a 3 part (ish) plan. The first part is this hundred days, the second part in the new year will be my first ever water only fast (although I will still supplement with the fish oil and multivitamins) for 7-10 days, followed by a return to this Week/Weekend pattern for 8 weeks. Part 3 will depend then on how much I think there is to lose still at that point. As I am not diabetic I can indulge in the occasional ‘off diet’ day and just get back to it the day after. That takes care of any birthdays or other social occasions. I usually log them anyway, I am pretty good at sight estimates of food now, and may well extend the ‘joker’ if that works well over Christmas.

Thanks SueBlue and MixnMatch. I was very interested to read your experience SueBlue on arthritis and BSD. I am really hoping that this way of eating will make a difference quickly. I gather that 1kg loss reduces strain on the joints by 4kg. That’s an encouraging thought too. And your experience of feeling a major improvement after three weeks is a great motivator. So I am pressing on. The dog arrived today and will be expecting a decent amount of walking!

HI everyone. Yowzer I agree, not sure where September went! But we still have plenty of time to achieve our goals. And many congratulations Yowzer on your phenomenal loss!! That’s incredible and I’m so pleased for you. I’m sure you’ll succeed in your 28lb by Christmas.

Cathy welcome back from your various anniversary celebrations. It’s great to have you on board as always, and good luck with getting to where you want to be. I hope that your eye procedures go well, and that you can then get your toe sorted out.

Dawn have you done your sparkly chart yet?! I use a spreadsheet with colour coding 😀

Mixnmatch I need to take a leaf from your book in terms of meal planning. I’m struggling a bit as I work over lunchtimes and just can’t seem to get in a good groove in terms of eating. I feel really hungry first thing when I get up, but try to delay eating until mid-morning so that I can have a healthy brunch. The problem is that I tend to get absorbed in whatever else I’m doing and end up grabbing something quick and easy to eat instead. So I’ve tried having a decent breakfast when I get up which means I then don’t want to eat again before work, but am ravenous when I come in so tend to start snacking. I’m sure my metabolism has changed in some way as I used to be able to fast all day without really noticing, but now can’t seem to do that. And I’m also exercising a lot more which is probably part of it.

So as a result, so far on this journey I just seem to be losing and regaining the same pound or two. But a new month is a good time for. reboot so hopefully I will get my act together and come up with a meal plan whose timings and nutritional content work for me.

Hello to everyone else too – Dawn, Heidi, SueBlue, Nokie, Arcticfox, Mariet and anyone else I’ve forgotten. Hope all is going well and look forward to reading your posts.

    Hello everyone
Just popped by to say what an incredible achievement since June Yowser! That is an amazing loss in such a short time. So inspiring to the rest of us. You must have worked really hard and been so disciplined. Well done! I am drawing a line under September and hoping I can get back to healthy eating over the coming weeks. I am getting my soup recipes out from the various Michael Mosley recipe books and hoping I will reverse the 4 lb September gain. My cataract operation is scheduled for 14th October and I also have an MRI scan at Christie Hospital in October to follow up my two abdominal schwannomas. I am getting quite severe pain nerve pain in my left knee now so I am fearful that they’ve grown in size. They’re growing on the femoral nerve so the pain is in keeping with the distribution of the femoral nerve. I might need to consider some neurological pain medication but I’ll wait until I’ve had the scan and see what they say. My orthopaedic surgeon has advised me to have big toe fusion surgery as the steroid injections are not lasting. He has agreed to see me in two months and to arrange further x rays with a view to performing the procedure in the New Year. So you can see I’ve got a lot going on but getting my weight down will help the toe surgery recovery I am sure. I will be out of mobile action for quite some time following the toe fusion surgery so everything I can do now will be a bonus. My initial aim is to get to where I was before my cruise so I’ll get back to 150 lb initially and take things from there. I feel quite overwhelmed and preoccupied with my various health issues and don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. When I worry I eat more! I am worrying about a lot of things at the moment and so it’s hard to be as disciplined as I would like to be. I’m not making excuses but just being honest. I can’t undo the hard work I put in earlier this year. I don’t see great losses but I know with effort I can lose the cruise weight and then take things from there. Lots of time to make a difference so let’s see if we can be as successful as Yowser.
