Hi all getting a little frustrated as I can’t always find the recipes I want to try. I have the recipe book and it does not have the exact amounts of the ingredients for a no carb ploughman’s (among others). Can somebody please tell me what weights are please. I am only on day 2 but loving it.

Hi Allie thank you I have had a quick look but I am looking for the ploughman’s off here and can’t find it. I know there are so many other options I can have but I am limited this week as I was only able to get a few main ingredients as waiting for payday🤣. I don’t have the chutney to go with it but feel it is not necessary. I have also already found in just two days that I really need to plan better as I seem to get more calories from my fat intake. I know they are good fats but if I have too many in the morning and lunch it doesn’t give me enough for a decent evening meal. I am not too worried if I go over a little as I have a lot to shift whilst keeping my BSugar in check and my total intake over these two days is a lot less than I was eating in just one day. How do you find snacking and keeping within the calories? Thank you and I hope I do not sound whingy as I am not meaning to🤣. Birdy

I have just had to Ploughmans and I can related to your frustration on a bit of this or a slice of that with no proper measurements. for my lunch and the amounts I use after many years of using this formula are: 2 slices of ham at 35g each, one long celery stick cut up, half an apple (hubby has the other half) and 30g of cheese of choice, usually Cheddar but today had Wensleydale. I include a tablespoon of pickle, today it was piccalilli other times I use a homemade fig and ginger preserve. I only have half the apple because of the high carbs and also I couldn’t eat a whole one as well as the rest of the stuff. It comes out at around 230 calories and about 11g carbs. Then you ask about snacks and that meal is a perfect example, I dont put the walnuts on the plate, I save them for my afternoon snack but…. The 5 walnuts (or 10 halves) are 4g carbs and 180 calories, so the total calories in the book a way out, if you included them in your meal it would be 410calories not the 290 it states. So be sure to log and check everything and not rely on the book, tedious at first but you will get to recognise how big your meal should look. You need to know that if you want to keep within the 800 cals as you would have to save elsewhere. Other snacks are cold meat like chicken, boiled egg, 10g cube of cheese. Once a week I use the frittata recipe to use up veg fridge (mushrooms, red peppers, spinach etc) I make it using 2.5 eggs (5 for 2 of us) but then I only serve 2/3rds of my portion and put the rest in the fridge for a snack. Just a couple of ideas.

Birdy, you don’t sound whingey at all 🙂 All of this can be a little overwhelming at first, and we all start out that
way. You are so very right that planning ahead is the key to early successes! For those that have decided to
use the recipes in the book, rather than just keeping it simple and adapting our own food, they often comment on
the expense of all the ingredients needed, some of which are only needed in very small quantity. I’m sure that
someone will soon be by to give you the ploughman’s recipe. What I used for a snack to tide me over in an
emergency was a small plastic bag with 10 almonds in it, and a constant supply of hard boiled eggs in the fridge.
Very unsexy! They are very portable though, and when I left the house, they were always in my handbag. They
saved me more than once when I was out from picking something up on the go that was bound to be non BSD
friendly. I have a special place in my heart for new members who share that they have a lot to lose. I onced
walked that road, at 20stone. I can relate! Ten months later, I weighed in at 10stone. Effectively, I threw 50%
of myself overboard 🙂 That was a few days short of 2 years ago, so I’ve been in maintenance for quite some time.
This is all very doable, Birdy, and this lifestyle will take you anywhere you want to go, be it control of BGL’s or
weight loss, or both. Becoming an active part of the community here is the way to go! You will find us all
generous hearted and non judgemental, so jump in anywhere so that we can get to know you. Warm congratulations
to you for making a decision to change your life. We’ll be here to share the adventure with you!

Wow Allie your reply brought a tear to my eye, thank you. What an amazing job you have done. I have always been a big girl and knowing you shead 10 stone is amazing as I would love to lose 6-8 stone and now I know it can be done! The most I have ever lost is 3 and a half and that was such hard work and a lot of gym sessions! I know this will not be easy peasy but I really do believe it will work for me now! I did jump on the scales this morning and it said I had lost 7lbs. I know this is not true true but it did make me smile. I will plan plan plan my meals to make sure I am doing it correctly I promise🤣. Thank you again Allie x

Anytime, Birdie! I think the old concept of calories in/calories out has been strongly refuted, and grueling sessions
in the gym aren’t necessary with this lifestyle. The concept that really resonates is that not all calories are created
equal, and it’s the type of calories that make the difference. I would never suggest that working out doesn’t have
enormous benefits for heart, lungs and muscle strength, etc. But for those that either can’t exercise or don’t enjoy it,
it didn’t make the slightest difference to my results. For 9 months I did nothing, and in month 10 I walked briskly
for @ 40min per day. The weight loss rate never changed! You CAN do this, Birdy! Onward and downward xxx
