    Thanks Violinist ! I appreciate it ! Let’s keep going !

Welcome Annakate. You have come to the right place as this is a very friendly , supportive forum . Have you read the BSD book and understand the principles of the 8 Week program ? There are some very experienced members on here who can guide you with their tremendous knowledge but I would say that as you start out

    1) track everything..Buy a notebook and write down everyhting you consume. Lots of people use apps myfitnesspal etc for tracking carbs and calories.
    2) Drink lots !2 to 3 litres a day
    3) Lots of tips and recipes on the dietdoctor.com website
    4) The objective is to break the carb cravings so cut out all bread, pasta, rice, biscuits etc and concentrate on leafy veg and small amounts of protein. Full fat Greek yoghurt, butter, olive oïl, nuts, avocados are all fine.

oops that suddenly sent . I hadn’t quite finished !

If you are used to eating lots of carbs you might suffer a fewside effects early days ( headaches and aches refered to as ‘keto flu’
    Keep going !
If you have a big family Christms celebration to prepare then you are going to have to plan if you want to stay on track after the initial 4 weeks.
If you are really determined to stay focused it is quite possible to lose around 10% of your body weight after the 8 Week programme.I lost 10 kgs. Lots of extremely succesful BSDers here who have had magnificent weight loss and are maintaining succesfully too.

We wish you all the best.I began on the 1st September and I have been massively encouraged by the support and kindness on this forum. Noone is here to judge, just to share and help when needed.

Wendy, I like the new name that you’ve assigned to this thread! The holidays are swiftly appoaching, and
I’ll be hanging in with you all. So much to get done, and only 4 weeks to do it in 🙂

A warm welcome to new members of the community! Stay with us through the holidays, and the New Year
will be off to a great start. I wish you best!!!

It’s online Christmas shopping for me today! I can’t tolerate the Malls…too hot and too many shoppers.
We still are reaping the rewards of “Cyber Monday” in the states, so I know what I have to focus on today,
as well as water, water, water! It makes such a difference, whether you’re working on weight loss or
easy maintenance. Glasses up, everyone 🙂 You too, V.! Caron, where are you, cutie?

Thanks for keeping the weekly thread going Wendy. I too will be part of a good BSD run up to the festive season. Weigh in today showed a drop of 1.5lb against where I was this time last week. This means I’m making headway on building some wriggle room again. Strangely though, for some reason I feeling a bit thicker around the middle! Hopefully that will right itself again soon.
Annakate, lots of good solid advice there, but if you have any particular issues do shout, someone will offer help, encouragement etc.

Hi Everyone. Thanks to wendy for setting us up.Im feeling really positive today as Ive lost 1kilo this week. I will probably regain some of it , as I was not well controlled yesterday and Im quite stressed. Fighting the emotional eating.I definitely have benefitted from my experiment with fasting. I’m going to try a fluids only day on Saturday as I don’t have any commitments this weekend.I’m definitely not going to go to a lot of fuss with Christmas shopping. We dont have any children in the family so I only need to buy 3 gifts and 1 meal for 7 people. I’m determined not to have too many leftovers this year. Lately I have been more aware of how wasteful and excessive we are in our lucky country. so I will do more acts of kindness and charity this year.well done for the start of your journey.Annakate stay with us it definitely will help.

    Hi Wendy,
Thanks so much for starting this thread love the title! Very apt!
Allie as always thanks so much for organising most of the threads to date. On a personal note it has helped me tremendously. This thread has been my BSD lifeline especially during my wobbles. So thank you for steering us to here 😘 Wendy you are just gonna follow in her footsteps and we are right behind you!

Hi Annakate welcome aboard! My top tips as a not so new BSDer is it can be tough at the beginning but if you embrace the low carb, high fat, medium protein, lots of fluids and 800calories it does work. I’ve lost just over 2 stone and still losing. I’ve had my fall off the wagon days and I’m sure there will be some more on the horizon. But my next tip dust yourself and try again. Cos forming a new relationship to your body, food and mind is what keeps you at it. When you have mastered the basics. Read ‘the obesity code’ ‘why we get fat?’ knowledge is power. And you will get tons of support here so come for the good and bad days.

Talking of bad days 😬 had some non BSD snacks 🙈 so have to OMAD tomorrow to balance things. Definitely hormonal I didnt give in last week but I gave in this evening. But it didn’t turn into a binge so 🤞 I stopped at the right time. I ate too little during the day and come evening I was exhausted! Also reckon I’m being complacent with all the weightloss compliments folks are noticing more and reckon I’m doing the old way of celebrating with food, old habits. How do you celebrate your successful weightloss?

Butterlover and SunnyB congrats on the losses well done! Keep going we all feel happy and inspired by your example.

Allie I’m with you online shopping all the way although lots of click and collects. I am going to a toy shop on Thursday wish me luck. I hope you bag a lot of bargains and enjoy this festive period. Hope the BSD maintenance is back on course for you! We are behind you!

Butterlover I loved your last sentiment about wastage and how incredibly lucky we are! I love how each and every one of you reminds of the wonderful lovely things in life. Like birdwatching, playing music, ploughing on even whilst in pain, mindful of how we eat what we do with out time, Trying fasting, taking time out to re-evaluate all of it,all of YOU make this such a lovely online space.
We are gonna have a fabulous week come what may 😘🤗🥊

I love your positive posts Eclectic ! Great that you are enjoying the compliments now that your weight loss is visible . I must say noone seems to have noticed my 2 stone loss at school but perhaps they will as I (hopefully) keep losing. OH can tell 😉 How would I celebrate a successful weight loss ? A vibrant dress in a normal size 16 would be good !

Eclectic …maybe take a litle pack of nuts with you to eat during the day to stop you snacking when you get home exhausted ? I use to be the same.I would go all day with very little and then raid the fridge when I got home. My appetite seems more regulated now as iI don’t eat carbage on days when I am fasting or doing OMAD. I definitely think low carb eating is making a huge difference and I think I am cured of cravings. I COULD still eat fruit though !!

You’re right. I also love all the positive , simple pleasures lots of people describe on here . It’s so uplifting . You are all very special .I too am resisiting the stresses of Christmas as there will be no mega meal to prepare. Most of my family are in the UK, my boys are in Oz so it will be a quiet affair for myself and OH apart from an invite to a Christmas Eve sea food Bonanza. I rebel against all the consumerism and like Allie hate shopping centres. They are an aggression to the spirit. I might find a gentle Christmas market in a village near here .

How are you doing Butterlover and Sunny B ?

Keep posting Annakate . How are you and hubby progressing ?

Welcome Nelliecat ! You are in a good place here !

    Hi Smead01 and Nelliecat,
You have come to the right place!!! Wherever you are in your journey it’s never too late to try BSD. Please let us know how your getting on?

Wendy love the idea of a Christmas market sounds so classy and civilised the opposite of the toy store today. I have bought most things online 😅 The children donate to charity shops prior to Christmas one in one out policy in our 🏠 we don’t spend lots of money either it’s not the point of Christmas. Lots of presents for them to share too. Having said that they are lucky privileged children and so far they appreciate it all, long may that last. My eldest daughter are going out on Monday for a mother daughter shop but mostly to hang out and have a lovely lunch together (BSD for me obviously) talking of which I ordered a Americanco with pouring cream and they let me pour it so I could measure how much. Felt great to be in control! Your right Wendy I was doing old habit of raid cupboards as I wasn’t nourishing myself during the day. So being mindful of that. Honestly where would I be without you! As for folks noticing it will happen it took ages for anyone to notice now I wish they wouldn’t 😂 as I need to not become complacent! I bought a lovely sized 12 jacket (half price) today so that felt good, that was my way of celebrating. Also wearing too big clothes hid my weight loss are you still wearing clothes too big for you?

Sunny B congrats on being towards target weight that must feel good and gives us hope.
You have time and online is amazing. I Have the in-laws, hubby and food shopping to do and that’s it! I’m listening to the Christmas carols to calm my nerves! We run around and in the end it’s literally 2 days and then done 🤦🏾‍♀️but I can empathise. Alliecat hope your managing to get most things 🎄🎅done too.
    Goodheart how you doing? Verano?

    As always positive vibes 🤗😘

I love the idea of donating présents before having more in the house Eclectic ! That’s a wonderful way to instill gratitude and generosity in your children. Can I ask how old your children are ? My boys are 25 and 27 .
It’ s not about masses and masses of présents. As the eldest of 7 children there was not a lot of money but our Mum ensured we we each had a special present at Christmas . It wasn’t excessive and what I remember best is the stocking /sock filled with a tangerine, a few nuts and chocolate.
We put ourselves under so much pressure . I rebel against it if truth be told !!

I also believe wholeheartedly that having come so far along the BSD road it would be a shame for us all to spoil things by giving in to excesses on those few days. We have the ways and means to keep things manageable and limit the damage .

We will stop you getting complacent Eclectic 😉 but you are entitled to enjoy the compliments and your size 12 jacket ( FAB !) I am not buying clothes right now…waiting for the January sales . Size 16 and a Size 14 at a later date would give me cause for celebration ! Yes it is true I have a few outfits which are too big but I don’t want to buy new stuff at the moment. I have bought a silly Christmas jumper though with matching furry reindeer earrings.;-)

required to come dressed in one. I think there was a prize for the craziest one, and the winner was a friend
who found one with LED lights!

Nelliecat, a big welcome to our thread, from one “cat” to another!

Samantha, you do not want that larger wardrobe….We’re all happy to have you here, so just hang in

holidays can be a treacherous time for some, and we all have strategies for managing it. Fear not 🙂
Posting regularly does really make a difference!

Wendy, you observant, clever minx! I didn’t post my tuesday results….Up 3/4lb. due to Thanksgiving
“wine creep”, as anticipated. I’m thinking of the recent holiday as a trial run for Christmas Day, and
don’t plan a “repeat performance”! Since we both will be enjoying a quiet day by the fire, I’ll be looking
forward to a chat. Surprisingly, last Christmas wasn’t as quiet on the forums as one might expect, and
we will have company. It’s speeding forward like a runaway freight train, but my gifts are almost in order,
ready for monday’s shipment, and I feel good about that 🙂 🙂 🙂

I weighed in at 173.4 this morning so i feel like the whole month was a wash, but I’m not writing. I’m going to be a serious bsd nut for the next eight weeks. Getting into the 160s will seriously feel so awesome. I haven’t been that low since my coma a few years back… Haha.

Hi JGwen, good if this works and it is about time they caught up with the principles of our diet plan. I personally would last about 2 days on a liquid diet and I am more than capable of working out an 800 cal menu plan – although I have to admit it can be a bit of a chore and an balancing act. But I would much rather have something like the Spanish chorizo and chick pea soup at 200cals for lunch than a glass of milkshake. At least they are getting there.

I’ve just seen the BBC news and whilst it’s a great step in the right direction, I just wonder if it will work if it’s a ‘diet on prescription ‘ and not a life choice made by the patients. S-g I agree with you I doubt if I could exist on ‘shakes’ either! Also it doesn’t really re-educate people. It seems to me to be stressing low calorie rather than low carb and we all know it’s the carbs that count.

    Hi all,
I wholeheartedly agree re shakes having tried them they are disgusting and do nothing to change the root of what is happening! 😬🙈 I almost got in contact with the doctor who is recommending/advocating it (knowing me I will contact him) My husband used to work with him and he’s a fantastic doctor but the NHS on a whole has got the delivery and message wrong. Having said that there’s pressure to turn the diabetes around quickly and yes it can have positive results but is it sustainable and long term changes 🤷‍♀️
Anyway what do I know 🙈 I’ve only just lost another 3 pounds this week! So I’m 12.4. dare I dream to be 11.7 by the end of the month and then 2stone to lose in 2019?!

Goodheart/Amz sorry to hear your not well and your past trauma. You sound like a fighter but resting being kind to yourself is just as important. Hope you feel better soon and please let us know how your getting on.

Wendy I did hold off for a while re buying clothes you will buy when it feels right. My goal was no new clothes till I lost all the weight. But clothes were getting far too baggy so sales and charity buys have helped!

So glad it’s the weekend and looking forward to put 🎄 up with the children whilst we listen to carols. Have a great weekend whatever you folks are up to 😘🤗

    Hi Eclectic !
I have just been watching Sky News and Sophy Ridge was discussing the diabètes recommendations/shakes diet and I sat up and listened carefully when she interviewed Dr Aseem Malhotra ( he’s quite gorgoeus too 😉 😉 )

He made it very clear that the 800 calorie shakes would cause rapid weight loss indeed and go some way towards reversing diabetes but that the same results could be achieved with REAL FOOD . It’s what happens after the shakes that is important and this is the message that needs to be sent loud and clear to tackle the diabètes crisis. Dishy Dr Malhotra insisted on the importance of low carb, eliminating starches,, sugars etc I hope the discussion continues along those lines. Who could possible want to drink shakes when there is so much delicious food available which does not include spuds and buns !!

I felt uplifted listening to the interview as hopefully those wise words will urge people to look further than the prescribed diet.

ECLECTIC !! 3 more pounds off ! You are truly rocking this régime ! Well done you !! You are well on track , fantastic !
Your weekend sounds lovely. I am up to date with reports so am shunning school work again this weekend. I’m such a rebel 😉 !!

HI Everyone. Welcome to you Aussiegirl.Im also an Aussie I live in perth.Dont worry about cheat days It takes a while to connect all the good days. Most important don’t give up .just do one meal at a time and keep drinking water
Ive had a couple of difficult days because I went back to work and Ive been struggling to organise my meals I gained a bit.Im not worried.Yesterday I made a lunch with 2 spoons chick peas .1can of tuna tomato and basil.diced half capsicum and zuchini .I didnt weigh or measure it so I can’t tell you the macros but it filled me up at lunch and I was able to resist cake when I had a coffee with a friend afterwork. I was totally exhausted and usually I will go for something sweet to get energy.I count this as a major improvement and a real behaviour change that I just had coffee.Today Im on fluids only and trying to last till dinner.BBQ lamb chops and salad.I hope you all have a great weekend.stay on plan.

    Hi Wendy,
When I was training to be a teacher my tutor said our job in teaching is to be subversive 😜 so rebel away! Well done on getting those reports done! I’ve had a good few lessons under my belt now and the head of department has given me lots of positive feedback. So a good confidence booster.

Dishy eh ☺️ not the same docter, although what he is saying is right. Please let that be the message! As shakes whilst successful at the beginning it is not long term, changing habits? Knowledge of food how it affect our bodies and minds? But yes agreed each to their own and a step in the right direction.

Prof Jonathan Valabhji as quoted in BBC report and on London radio yesterday is a diabetes specialist, advises government on diabetes. Hubby possibly will see him at some work do next week and I have asked he say something. I mentioned this forum and all those who have reversed diabetes, lowered their blood sugar, no longer obese!!! The shake is just a catchy headline grabber but reckon most specialists agree with your dishy docter Wendy 😘
Alliecat I’m bias but I do think UK is slightly a step ahead on this but only just we still have some way to go. But 🤞 we are moving in the right direction. I think certain food industries have a vested interest to keep us obese. The drive against lots of sugar has been ongoing here. Anyway lecturing/ranting/putting the world to rights over 🙈

Aussiegirl don’t worry about the bad days. Just keep coming back to it. I really struggled at times and I have bad days too. Ask the experienced lot on here, proper non BSD benders 🙈 😅 but I would say just keep going meal by meal, drink by drink. It’s a massive change to how we have eaten before. Butterlover is right plenty of fluids and don’t beat yourself up. I sound like a religious convert 😂 but Im fairly normalish, average being and I came to BSD because I just didn’t know how to lose the weight and other methods like low fat etc weren’t working like they did before. So I was fairly naive and two stone heavier than I am now. I have stuck to BSD on most days but had my bad days but they are getting few and far between. I now have fast days too but that’s not for everyone and all our journeys are personal to us. I know that when I started out the lovely beings on here held my hand at times. So reach out when you want we are here. Alliecat once said to me this is a marathon not a sprint and that helped me to slow down, calm down, be realistic but also small steps towards a healthier me. I’m half way there literally 2.5 stone to go. So you can do this! I was where you are about 16-18 weeks ago. Celebrate commiserate together. Lots of good research shows that support makes a difference to any long-term change.

Butterlover, I have to say I don’t really count macros as such either and it’s worked for me. The only thing I have done in the last couple of months is watch the carb intake even on low foods but again I’m not a great number cruncher and I’m still losing. So do what works for you and the Tuna zucchini lunch sounds delicious 😋

Alliecat please don’t hate me but we have used a plastic tree that is well over 10 years old. We have done fresh trees before but I just feel sad that they are grown and then fair enough composted I hope. I can be like Phoebe from friends on this 🤦🏾‍♀️ very 😂 episode on this. My friend did point out that our plastic tree would be terrible for the environment when we do get rid of it 😔 so hopefully next year… We can always do better right.

Oh my I really have posted a rather long one this morning if you got to here congrats and thanks! 😜 Wonderful weekends all 😘

Hello. I’m checking in for a December 1 restart. Still sick u,u but I can at least properly cook and walk around again. For the next 8 weeks I’m going to stick to fast 800. I’d like to be 150 or under by my anniversary Feb 20.
I weighed in this morning at 177.8.

Caron, I so agree…I knew instinctively that Wendy would shine, and keep our thread humming! 🙂 I’ve love to see you
you back, too…then I’ll always know where to find you!

As Amz has pointed out, we have a new opportunity to up the effort because we have a fresh new week to get
started on. I don’t want to see any sad smiley faces in my diary from now until Jan 1. I’m forming a strategy and a plan,
with no opportunities for sabotage. I know we can all produce one! Let’s share our best ideas..What do you think???

    Hi Allie
Wendleg also had two very good examples to follow! That would be Verano and …… you! I shall think about a strategy and a plan. At the moment I am 22 hours into my first fast. My “pesky” one kilo had turned into nearly three. (Note how I assign the deed to the weight not to myself!). I have been slow to process the research and experiences described here on fasting, but have finally gone for it.

I have been struggling with generally being too relaxed about carbs, and plain old comfort/stress eating. This morning I feel closer to re-establishing control – particularly of the dark chocolate and nuts, which were getting out of hand. So part of my maintaining/getting a grip strategy will include a weekly 24 hr fast at least until end January. (That was the third version, having deleted “may well include” and a “probably”!

You are absolutely right Caron. I was following in the path left by Allie and Verano’s very steady, capable shoes ! I am just glad that people are happy to continue sharing their expériences and support. A major moment with the new diabètes prescription this Week.

I hope the fasting goes well. It’s not as scary as you might think but it has to fit in and be manageable when there are few stresses and demands. Pick a day when you won’t be constantly thinking about food and prepare some lovely teas or sparkling water.

Are you logging your food /carbs Caron ? I still do even if I have a clear idea of the principles as it keeps me focused. I love nuts too 😉
Stay positive . We must all definitely be in a good place at the end of the festive period and not feeling guilty and depressed !!

Strategy ? I will continue to visualize fruit dipped in mouse droppings Allie !!! We have a couple of invitations to Christmas apéritifs but as they are buffet style eateries I will just clutch my glass of Perrier and San Pelegrino and if necessary load up a plate which I will hold onto for as long as I need to and then pass to O/H ;-))
